I thought this, because I started playing with a controller after playing other games on consoles mostly. Once you get the hang of it, it's surprisingly easy to use K&M and whilst it doesn't make a huge difference as a survivor (looping is better with K&M though), it does make a difference playing killer. I use a controller right now because I have a bad shoulder and it's just impossible for me to play otherwise, but I would much rather K&M.
Did you walk into your hob again?
-
If you can't look at a wall or bait something out something tells me you aren't playing at high MMR.

spirit is fine where she is, what you wanna be doing is abusing the fact she can see scratch marks. and yes u can argue. MDR and DCB. But, if you can fake spirit with that then yeah. they can also think about nerfing iron will to 85% so it is affected by stridor. or just made stridor counter iron will. then if they do this they can nerf spirit a bit more. Even though in my opinion she is fine
I know how to play against her and I'm very good at not giving her the first hit. Visual tricks are something I'm shockingly adept at for someone that spends most of each game running around the map aimlessly leaving scratches everywhere.
My issue stems from the insane power difference between having IW and not having IW. I wish they'd give a sort of middle ground, then nerf the perk to the ground.
-
I do it because it's funny lol
When you get someone seething who played terribly and couldn't get a kill despite all of us messing around in a corner for half the trial duration seeing them blame SWF as the reason they lost is hilarious, so I say I'm solo just for shits and giggles.
Also the killers that think they're godtier for killing a swf, when again we're staring at a locker for most of the game, I like to joke around with them too.
If it's an actually decent/good player with an alright attitude though then I'll happily admit to it. It's allowed in the game, idc

Oh, please tell me, that source of the boon plague in the Entity's realm, the "patient zero", Mikaela Reid... isn't a Witch! So magic she is doing to the totems is not a witchcraft :)
Entity is displayed every time survivors escape. Entity hungers for sacrafice. Asking a favour? It's like getting a basket of food and meeting poor hungry children... just to ask them a favour of not touching the food.
When killer spends 2 minutes to chase survivors in hope to feed the Entity and they all just heal up instantly... it doesn't make sense.
If it wasn't asking for a favour it wouldn't be called a boon totem...
If it was proper witchcraft it'd be something like a magic totem or a, shockingly, hex totem.
Like read the tag line for third seal for me okay?
-
@RoaderFrost said:
Boons are foul sorcery and witchcraft.
DS works to prevent you from being tunneled after unhooking. If you have time to find and bless totem (and that's foul act of heresy against the Entity) it means you aren't being tunneled.
Lore-wise you're actually wrong here.
A "boon" in this context means "A favour from one more powerful than you"- think of the scene in Heather's: The Musical where Veronica asks Heather Chandler to sit at her table- Heather is the most powerful girl in school and Veronica in a nobody, so to raise her social status she requests a "boon".
It isn't witchcraft, it isn't heresy, it's asking for a favour and receiving it from the Entity, a being far more powerful than anyone else in the Realms

I see where you’re trying to come from here. It could work although I just like her the way she is because I don’t want them to somehow make her too weak or too OP. Not saying it’s possible to make that work but we’ve seen BHVR fail with this stuff many times in the past
We have. Gotta remember my idea also needs them to be able to program functional sounds so... Never gonna happen

If I may ask, what is your proposed change? Just curious.
Honestly? I haven't though that through very far so (keep in mind I woke up like 10 minutes ago) here's my sleep deprived very tired first thought
-Omni-directional breathing at 150% which increases the closer your are.
-Directional noises of pain at 50% which is always a flat volume.
All unaffected by Stridor, which accidentally got reworked at the same time whoopsies
Use the pain sounds to track where they are, and regular breathing to track how close you are.
Once more, combined with an increase to power duration and recharge speed enabling you to be phasing more often.
This is probably ######### but like I said my main thought rn is on trying to stay awake
-
Did this no get fixed in the most recent update or am I remembering things from dreams again
-
I respectfully, massively disagree.
I really want them to nerf her further against survivors without Iron Will, and then in return buff her massively against survivors who do have Iron Will. Because that perk existing suddenly gives you 100x more counterplay options than without.
You can buff her in other ways after this too, like faster recharge/longer duration, but the most recent only fixed one of my two major issues with her.
Fix the issues with the power imbalance between having and not having Iron Will (then feel free to absolutely slaughter the perk, btw) and I might begin to agree with you.
What I do have to admit, though, is she is much more fun to face and to play now than she was. It feels good, actually needing to use my brain while playing her.
-
@Shaped said:
I made a thread a while ago about this and a lot of killers were pissed about me sticking around to give hits so I stopped doing that.

Tbf I think the issue is when you sit in the gate but when the killer gets close you leave.

Is sloppy really still this good in a world of CoH?
Shockingly, when COH makes survivors heal over and over again, that 4 second increase really adds up.
COH helps challenge the "stay injured with DH and Smash gens" because of the convenience of it. If they're going to be healing constantly and killing your map pressure, you might as well make it take longer.

Isn't it 18+ on Steam too or is that a UK thing?

Aren't all killers anti-loop killers? Most of their powers work to shut down non-safe pallets and windows.
Trapper and Hag can set a trap ending a loop,
insta-down killers can force an early pallet drop
Doctor, Clown, Freddy, PinHead and Deathslinger can use their powers to slow you down or prevent you from dropping a pallet.
Wraith, Blight, Demo, and Spirit have speed to counter loops
Ranged killers can hit over the pallet or window.
And then theres Nurse, who doesn't care about loops at all.
So who is left who doesn't have a way to fight loops? Legion?
There's having the ability to deal with loops and there's having your entire power around it.
Doctor has his madness for tracking. Freddy can teleport. Wraith is invisible. Spirit, Blight, Demo all have mobility options. Nurse is Nurse.
Slinger, Pyramid, Trickster, Huntress, Clown, Pinhead, Artist, etc, all have powers almost exclusively dedicated to anti-loop, with Pinhead being the most likely to escape that category.

Pain Resonance is an incredibly good perk held back by the restriction of 4 hooks. Gift of Pain exists to make Pain Resonance more consistent and that's it.
It's honestly not that bad, you can combo it with Ruin or PGTW as well for some more pressure or use it as an info perk on Nurse, Spirit, and Blight.

-
I was really tempted to just say "Good" and leave it at that, but also I'm afraid the devs will never be able to fix twins. They should be equalised vs solo and swf and that'll never happen without proper solo buffs instead of perks, so all I can really see saving them is a full kit rework but even then people who like current twins will be upset.

nurse was nerfed because she was faster than anyone and wall through
still nurse is fastest in chase distance, still faster than 4.6 killers and its insane at theory
She's literally slower than survivors by default and the only killer that is, meaning she is a design anomaly. How the ######### did you manage to miss my point so badly.

But then by this logic, one had to buy or play DG back then to get the masks, too, so then it shouldn't have been given to everyone now. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for giving everyone a chance to get cosmetics they may like, but it's not right to apply this to one item and not the other.
On the "it never made it to consoles" part, there are other things that console players never had a chance to get, i.e. legacy clothing, and I don't see those being given to everyone either. It doesn't really make sense why this but not the other.
Let's just chalk this one up to a christmas gift, huh?
the DG masks were free to obtain on PC while consoles never had the chance. Your examples of legacy and bloodletting aren't 1 to 1 matchups, either; yes, console players didn't have the chance for this, however:
- legacy has been said to never return- it hasn't been said it's exclusive, it's said it will never return
- bloodletting required a real-world purchase. again DG was free.
- legacy required an insane grind in a game nobody thought would survive. the time taken for DG's cosmetics depended on your download speed.

I'll answer what I can so we can both go back to building decks / falling asleep while watching The Big Game. I'm mostly focused on answering questions about the existing system, and not going into too much details about potential future changes.
- For those insta-queues that feel unbalanced, you're correct! Imagine the situation I was describing before where you are waiting and waiting for someone to show up in the queue that's within your range, but from the other side. A group of survivors is waiting (and to be clear, they might not be a full SWF, just that they are grouped together by the MM system), and then you pop into the queue: An opponent who is near the edge but within the boundary for their search. "Wonderful!" the MM system thinks, "I can finally give them a match. It might not be the most balanced, but hey, they're playing after a long wait!".
- We actually had a system in place to prevent smurfing / intentionally dropping your MMR before, and it ended up causing more problems than it helped. That's not to say that it's off the table forever, but rather that it's a really tricky problem to solve in a way that works across the board. it's not at the top of the list right now, as there are other issues that we can tackle with bigger payoff in terms of matchmaking improvements. Prioritization!
- I could talk for hours about defining a "good match", but I'll do my best to summarize: What the MMR system does is predict the outcome of a match before it starts. More specifically, it predicts the odds of the outcomes. With a large enough sample size, it's actually really good at this! If you look at all the games where the system says "PlayerA has a 60% chance of escaping this match", PlayerA does escape those matches about 60% of the time. Generally speaking (and I'm definitely simplifying here, so don't take this too literally) we operate under the assumption that a 50% escape chance per player is indicative of a balanced match. This holds true in most games outside of DbD, be it Chess or [Insert Popular FPS Franchise Here]. If both players are equally as skilled, then the odds of either one winning are about equal. So if you can make a match where the prediction is that the odds are equal, then you've likely got a balanced match!
- Some people are willing to wait 30+ minutes for a perfect match, and others don't want to wait more than 5 no matter what. So we have to find a decent compromise, which is extremely difficult. Remember that the MM system isn't just trying to find you good matches, it's trying to find good matches for every single player!
- I'm not going to go into long-term plans here but I will say that we have consciously decided not to show explicit MMR values for now, as doing this generally result in a lot of toxicity for other online games.
- I'm very familiar with the technique of managing group MMR, and it's something that we have also considered. For a while, I was thinking about maintaining a completely independent MMR for solo queue and group queue, which is something I have seen other games do. That said, several of them have moved away from that technique as it didn't actually provide much benefit for matchmaking, but did result in a fair bit of technical overhead. Overall, we're still open to doing something like this once we feel like we've got a good solution and that it's going to be a meaningful improvement, but there are bigger fish to fry for the moment. As it stands, we're taking the average MMR of the group and using that for matchmaking, which works fairly well at a high level. We'll likely revisit this after we've made other improvements elsewhere.
- SBMM never goes offline. It sees you when you're killing, it knows when you escape. It knows when games are bad or good, so play good for goodness sake! But for real, the MM system learns by doing. When you get matched in something that feels crazy unbalanced, the system is paying attention and adjusting both your MMR and your opponent's MMR accordingly. There are situations where the system can be very unsure about where a player should fit, and so it tosses them into games to calibrate their MMR. When you do happen to end up in a game against these folks, keep in mind that your MMR is likely not being adjusted that much by the result.
I hope that helps clear a few things up. Overall, the biggest challenge of building a matchmaking system is that it has to produce thousands and thousands of matches every day, so we have to take the big picture AND the zoomed in view into account. For every discussion we have about a graph showing all games in the last month, we also dig into specific examples to see how they are panning out, too.
Thanks for taking the time to ask questions and listen! <3
If you wouldn't mind me asking, how does disconnecting impact your MMR? I've had games- unfortunately, a lot of them- where players have curbstomped me (these being incredibly good players that I woulnd't have stood a chance against without playing my mains) however at the end all 4 have DC'd. Would this raise my MMR and lower theirs? Freeze everyone's?
How does it work?

Dwight -> No
Meg -> Absolutely
Jake -> He's so hot
Nea -> Yes
Laurie -> Oh God yes
Feng -> Eh
David -> Words cannot express how much I wish to marry this man
