  • @knell Thank you for providing this information and clearing up a few questions I have had myself.

If this true, that it may have just been Red Rank Killers the data is based on, would mean the data itself is worse than meaningless. It is data providing a false reality and misrepresenting actual facts.

I am happy BHVR released data, but I am not happy with how they did it. There are so many questions about specifics, about how this data was collected and what it actually represents.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

  • That's a good question.

Anywhere from 1-5 hours I'd say. More if I feel up to it on weekends/days I have off.

I never said it didn't take time, I was just saying it wasn't impossible.

  • Its not impossible.

I finished the rift last week.

  • Sorry you deranked.

But really rank doesn't matter much.

They were hurt more by the DC than you were, since they got nothing out of the time they spent in the match.

I agree that Killer isn't very fun though. For me. Too stressful.

  • @lazerlight said:

Almost half the characters in this game (BHVR characters) are POC so OBVIOUSLY I didnt call anyone ANYTHING. if any of you thought I was calling people "something" and got mad/annoyed by it, then thats a problem you need to work on with yourself...

    Lmao.

"I'm going to imply something that I'm obviously implying and if anyone calls me out on it then they have a problem."

Arguable, this is probably balanced out by survivors giving up on first hook or sabotaging their team in other ways.

I will say it's pretty sad to see the mental hoops some killer partisans have jumped through in order to discount the stats that came out last month. From the beginning the devs said that the stats don't represent the whole picture because there are a number of factors that weren't revealed by those graphs. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be enough for some that don't want to accept the stats for what they are.

    I've seen people:

-Claim that the stats are inaccurate, which they aren't. They're true, but they only show what they show, nothing more, nothing less.

-Invent Conjecture on outside influences, which is fair, but ultimately completely based on unfounded theory and anecdotal evidence.

-Create conspiracy theories like this one with seemingly no basis in reality.

I suppose this mostly stems from a few things, pushing for certain killer buffs, being unwilling to accept they may play worse than the average killer, or straight up victim complex. This isn't exclusive to killer partisans, I've seen plenty of survivor partisans exhibit these attitudes as well. It just seems that recent killer changes have really stirred up some bad feelings in killer partisans.

Its a good thing this isn't really serious and is just a talking point and something fun I thought up to post about.

The data they released also doesn't say anything other than "this is the popularity of killers and their kill rate" which is really uninformative and ripe for conjecture in and of itself.

I don't play Killer but I like discussing data, putting it under scrutiny and asking questions, theorize where it might come from and if there is anything that we can gleam from it.

"I suppose this mostly stems from a few things, pushing for certain killer buffs, being unwilling to accept they may play worse than the average killer, or straight up victim complex."

But I'm glad to see you aren't judging me prematurely or anything.🤷‍♀️

  • "Flip Flop is a cool idea but it suffers from being way too situational to be any bit useful and most killers just immediately put you on a hook anyways,"

I thought every Killer slugged every game always.

Are you telling me that there can be multiple things the Killer can do and that the Forums like to exaggerate? I don't believe you sir.

  • The one GF I had that did this was easy to deal with once my team figured out what he was doing. Except Claudette. She just kept running in.

I just didn't go for unhooks because I'm a scaredy puss. I'll just let the randos deal with it. Got 4 gens done myself that game.

  • Not to the extreme it is on PC.

Because of the games being connected to the Killer's internet its of course going to be slanted. However, if the game is going to go this way you will see it ahead of time. Dedicated servers are a whole other beast.

  • "I know not a lot of people care about Adam (for reasons they wont admit)"

You mean his current awful cosmetics and mediocre perks?

Seriously though, its kind of obvious what this is referring too and if I'm right its one of the biggest stretches I've ever seen.

  • @Waffleyumboy said:

You make a good point about people jumping to conclusions over stats but this theory is whack. I like the theory that survivors throw the game if they mess up even a little bit. (Even though this still technically means the kills the killer got were deserved)

    Of course it is.

    That's what makes it fun.

  • @Peanits said:

That is quite the conspiracy, but to clarify a few things:

    • We don't use just that data + other data to balance, we also take a look at feedback and watch/play the game ourselves.
    • The data does not show hooks, only the state of the survivors at the end of the match (dead, or alive).

For what it's worth, though, this is why we tend not to do stats very often.

    Thank you for posting Peanits!

Please forgive me that I can not take everything you say at face value as you are an agent of BHVR.

Nah, but seriously thanks, and I totally understand why you guys don't release data a lot. Wild speculations notwithstanding you also have to deal with how players interpret, though most likely misinterpret, the data you provide. There is also the inherent mistrust and paranoia some people have for companies and their dealings.

Honestly, he is onto something but it comes down to pipping versus killing everyone in the trial.

Sure, you can kill four people, but they can all be one-hooked and you de-pip.

    @Blueberry said:

There are way, way too many factors in the data that artificially make killers look stronger than they actually are by giving kills that aren't indicative of balance.

Honestly the best approach to get around a lot of this and see more accurate data would be to see pip rates by rank and system.

By going with pips instead of kills for seeing how strong killers are you get around things like a 4k from NOED but it's a black pip.

The only issue with that is killers that get artificially penalized on their pipping like 1 shot killers for example, but that's more a design issue since the devs still haven't fixed that problem.

    I agree.

Pipping info would give us a lot to work with in understanding Killer strength, overall.

I just wish their piping system wasn't such a mess for half the Killers.

  • @Seltas0208 said:

    Your theory has ground.

But there's a specific "sacrifice" scoring event and they could've used that to get there data.

So as cool as itd be to have that be hook ratio and how much sense it'd make. That ain't the case I don't think. Shame too

    You're probably right.

But Its fun to speculate and think about. 🤷

  • @VincentRedfield said:

This has to be a bad joke mocking killer mains.

Killer mains: "the game is survivor sided."

Developers: "our data shows even 4 man SWF does not have a 50% escape rate."

    Killer mains: "LIES!"

Its not though. I mean, not really. Its obviously insane.

Its me trying to figure out the data with what little information we actually have. Taking it at face value is fine, but I have issues with that and overthink things.

  • Its really just a way for people to disregard an argument someone is making by pointing out a bias that may or may not be there. Its the "us vs. them" mentality that has always been a thing for us humans, because, for some reason, when someone doesn't agree with you then they belong to the "others" and the "others" is bad and wrong. Its a way to deflect your own biases by saying the other person is more bias.

The DBD community is one of the best, and worst, when it comes to utilizing it though. Its basically a meme at this point, since its used literally all the time as a counter argument, that much of the community still use seriously.

Its all dumb but what are you going to do? 🤷‍♀️

  • Frustrating and obnoxious SWF is one of the reasons I stopped playing Killer. Its not the main reason, but its one of them.

I just want to have fun and I find playing Killer to be stressful and unfun more than anything. Its only fun, for me, like 5-10% of the time.

BHVR says they are looking at ways to address the stark difference between Solo and SWF groups, but we haven't really seen anything as of yet.

If anything the Freddy and Oni nerfs help SWF more than Solo players. 🤷‍♂️

With all due respect, you should review the PPC tense.

The elapsed time in the sentence must be from the past until now, not in the future.

" I've been playing dbd for 10 years" means that I began 10 years ago and still playing.

"I played DBD for 10 years" means that I played for 10 years but not playing anymore.

Anyway, looking at the OP's profile, they only posted killer sided comments before today, so I wonder : if this thread is a trick, what is the aim of it ? It looks like a sincerely good advice for survivors...

    Two things though:

    1. OP said "To be honest, I did main killer for the first 1000 hours, but have been maining survivor for the next 1000." Emphasis on "have". Meaning they are currently maining Survivor in this, their current, 1000 hours.
    2. Just because they are a Killer main or post Killer sided posts doesn't mean they are wrong. Its a legit strategy to counter the changes to the UR add-on for Oni. If you are good and the Oni you are facing isn't great.
  • Base-kit? No thanks.

If you find Ruin is getting removed quickly/immediately then maybe you should try a different slowdown perk? Maybe try Corrupt Intervention? This would also free up your Thrill of the Hunt perk slot for something else.

  • " i'll be playing killer and waiting 30 minutes for a game againt people 6 ranks higher than me."

    wat

Also:  "i always knew in the back of my mind playing survivor that it's killer favoured in terms of what counts as a hit and what doesnt but its really making me mad after 250 hours."

At least something is Killer sided. And this isn't even really a thing on console.

  • Maybe you are just really good at playing Wraith. Have you thought of that?

Also, getting 4ks in rank 1 means nothing since any and all Survivors can get to red ranks by just playing a lot. They don't have to even try.

"Wraith is without a doubt the best Killer in this game. I don't even use any other perks but his default + Deer stalker." Lmao!

Get it right literally everyone else who plays this game @LordEmrich is here to educate you on the actually facts. Its not that he is just good with Wraith, no, Wraith is the best killer in the game. Get it right.

This is my experience too, massive survivor wait times and instant killer lobbies, no matter the time of day.

Nearly every game sees a team of red rank survivors against a rank 10 killer, Ive often been in both sides of this and it’s not fun to steamroll or be steamrolled.

    PS4 UK region btw.

Yup. Eastern Canada here and its the exact same.

You do realize the title says as a ps4 killer right even though it’s a universal discussion thread. Thanks for your insight thougH. Also I started 2.5 years ago and it’s barely different.

Yea. I play on PS4 and when I started playing right after Spirit release it was near impossible to play consistently as Killer because turning, alone, caused FPS drops.

You can say you've been playing for 2.5 years but that doesn't mean exaggerating or disregarding changes makes you correct.

Because its boring holding down M1 for long periods of time, this change was for the best

Did you even read what I said?

Sorry you can't be bothered waking yourself up.

  • Lmao people still using the "kill rate" charts provided as "evidence" that all Killers arefine.

How about you actually PLAY both sides instead of just saying that you do? And, no, playing Killer to do dailies and challenges is not the same as actually being a Killer player.

I'm a Survivor Main btw. Mainly because its stress free and I can do whatever I want.

Without Killers there is no game, just wait till the game gets so bad that all the killers switch to survivor and the queue times for survivor Triple then only will BHVR realise they ######### up.

PS4 has already seen a HUGE dip in Killers in the passed few months. Its takes ages to get into a game as survivor but your lobby fills instantly as a Killer.

But I guess this is fine. :|

I've been playing for 2 years and the graphics and frame rate haven't improved once. I don't understand why they ported this to console if they weren't gonna care about it the same as PC. Just seems like a cash grab to me anymore. Prove me wrong devs, please.

This is straight up false.I started over a year ago and the frame rate is definite;y better than it was back then

  • Audio and visual issues both.

    Everything seems so dark now.@.@

  • @Guiltron said:

Good. Forever Freddy was a pain to deal with.

Was it though? Having to spend a little extra time in match, if you don't wake yourself up, isn't that big of a deal.

But I guess the "ignore everything and just do gens" meta was being threatened so it needed to be nerfed.

Wraith literally gets increased movement speed, no terror radius, and near invisibility with his power. How is this weak?

LF gets to instadown survivors with his chainsaw. Not weak at all.

Legion is a God at buying time by forcing survivors to mend and heal. That's two health states they have to heal.

The Plague could use a buff or two yeah.

The pig gets a 0 terror radius, lunge attack, and takes a survivor out of the game for a bit by giving them a reverse bear trap.

I see many people, even in red ranks, step in trapper traps these days. It could take anywhere from 1 try to 7 tries to get out of a trap AND the trap leaves you injured if you do manage to get out.

The demogorgon is kind of weak I agree.

Myers being weak is a joke. I'm not even going to try to explain this one.

    Lmao. This guy.

  • I don't.Mainly because it was just a slew of Killer nerfs and "Fixes".

That obnoxious beam was the bane of my existance.

And the main point of this is not exactly correct. I've played Spirit for quite a bit, and have a decent build. Nothing too bad. I mean, Monitor and Abuse is pretty decent. I think.

Is monitor and abuse good on Spirit? I've heard Distressing is better.

And I was only saying I like Spirit but I am really bad with phasing even though its suppose to make her really strong. @.@

  • They can't, honestly.

Stronger killers would make it scarier for a little while but it'll just lose all its scare factor again after a certain amount of time. Jump scares do not count as fear or a game being scary.

If you've ever played a survival horror then you know what I'm talking about.

  • "he’s definitely not a disaster like the Symmetra rework in overwatch"

I agree with this 1000%. I loved Symmetra 2.0 but Symmetra 3.0 is just... Blizzard why you hate her so much?

Anyway, on topic, I like playing Spirit but I'm also really bad at phasing. It does not go well.

  • Waiting for a lobby to fill as a Killer? Nope

    Survivor on the other hand...

  • Go into games just focusing on learning her. Don't worry about failing. Don't worry about how many kills you get. Just blink around and see what you can do. You are 100% going to derank while learning her.

My fiance is trying to learn Nurse to get the Adept and its a struggle if you even half try to play. Learning how to chase, how to blink correctly, and where and when you can hit/down a survivor as Nurse all take practice.

She's rough to learn to say the least.

Not to mention learning how to save time and getting better at having more down time to actually pressure Gens instead of spending the whole time chasing the same survivor. 😑

  • I think I kind of remember it?

I dunno, I haven't seen it in a long time if it ever did exist. Mount Ormond is the map I get placed on the least so... 🤷‍♂️

Damn it Peanits you beat me too it!

  • Was playing Friday the 13th the Game and heard about Dead by Daylight. With how long it took to get into a game in Friday the 13th, the fact that you have to wait for the match to finish no matter how early you die/escape, and the fact that running no-fear Baseball Bat Jenny and "anti-Jason" Chad (anyone who's played it knows what I'm talking about) was getting boring I decided to check it out. This was over a year ago now.

  • Telling people you need it is a surefire way to not get it. lol

I'm not sure what to tell you though, I didn't find any of them to be particularly difficult.

    I play on PS4 though.

  • Blah blah Deliverence blah blah.

Just wanted to dogpile the OP further.

  • Considering all the nonsense that is in the new map, and how dark it is, its not really a surprise. Literally you can crouch almost anywhere in Sanctum of Wrath and you'll become almost completely invisible.

I don't run it though. I run Fixated.

  • I always run whatever I want because as a Survivor main it literally doesn't matter what I run.

  • I haven't experienced any of these.

    What platform are you on?

  • Nah.

It'll go from "you should probably use it" to "Killer's now have 3 perk slots if you don't really want to use Ruin. Or Spirit Fury. Or BBQ."

  • By the time they are out of range of Bond what happens to them doesn't really concern you, unless they are on hook/downed and only if there isn't anyone else closer. Mainly them being downed is helpful so you know exactly how far away the Killer is before you have to worry about him maybe getting to you.

I don't run either of them though.

  • So many people taking this thread seriously.

Or they are actually trolling at such a high level its undetectable.

  • @altruistic said:

    Like really bad.

I get tired of looking at her sweaty hobo-scarecrow ass every game.

  • All these people talking about looking for a key as if there are chests left unopened by the end of the game. In my experience this is never a viable option.

Anyway, I'd just start opening a gate. I honestly don't care if I survive so I'm just happy I was the last one alive. 🤷‍♂️
