You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. The jump from 120 to 150 FPS is noticeable, but I’m referring to 240, 360, etc. If you’re used to gaming at pathetic frame rates, that’s your problem I’m not going to deal with the same limitations.
We made do with 30 FPS.
You’ll live.

I just want to add when I say skill mismatch that isn't me saying you're rubbish or anything, and I hope it didn't come off as an insult. I've seen some pretty cracked players have skill mismatches like that against good teams, and DBD's matchmaking is…well, subpar even today, you wouldn't necessarily need to be 'low MMR' for this to happen to you.
Oh, I didn’t think you were. Quite the opposite, lol.
I honestly don’t know how to explain it. I couldn’t care less about my MMR. My playstyle works for me, so, like I said: 🤷♀️

Well of course shoulder isn't going to affect you if your playstyle is to do it to yourself every game??? Like, if you're at such a skill mismatch that you can consistently go out of your way to 4 hook your opponents without it causing significant macro issues for you, no amount of strong perks is going to save these people.
🤷♀️
Maybe I’m low MMR. Maybe I’m somehow a god-tier Unknown main.
Either way, it’s worked for me so far.

To clarify, 1-2-1-0 is the total hook states on the team across 4 players, meaning you've gotten a second hook on any player over 4 chases, which is really, really normal gameplay. Heck, you can easily get 1-2-0-0 relatively early without tunneling if survivor 2 resets and just happens to be on an important gen you patrol by the time you finish your other chase.
Sure, I got that part.
Still, tho. I tend to go for 1 hook on every survivor before proceeding to try for 2nds. Earlier if I can’t find one.
When everyone’s got a hook state already, taking one with StB is risky, since you’d putting yourself at death hook. And it’d pointless to take a hook state from the first hook.

Absolutely not, no. There is a HUGE difference between having death hook pressure or not, and teams that have shoulder can force you to be inefficient with your hooks with very few actual downsides, especially for killers that aren't immediately returning back to hook or who rely on M2s for chase and can't make use of the exposed - and thats ignoring the common use of vigil to reduce that exposed duration anyways.
Hooks aren't equal to eachother, having 4 hooks with no kill pressure - especially by the time you're down to 2/3 gens, which is very common for 4 hooks against more efficient teams - is a completely different gamestate from 1-2-1-0, and allows for survivors to play much more aggressively and efficiently because the chance at snowballing pressure is dramatically reduced.Having 4 hook states between 2 survivors is something I’d intentionally need to go for, which I cba to do.
My pressure tends to come from quick sucsessive hooks. It doesn’t really matter who the hooks are on, at that stage.

It wouldn't still be too overpowered, in fact you could straight up remove the scream and exposed downsides if you made it actually an anti-tunnel perk with the double hook requirement. The problem with shoulder isn't that its too good at anti-tunnel, its too good at removing pressure from killers playing normally.
I’m confused. Surely if you’re playing ‘normally’ (which I’m taking to mean not tunnelling) the perk hardly affects you?
You still got the hook. StB doesn’t take that away from you.
-
I still haven’t unlocked Hiding Seeker.
Which probably says a lot.
-
Meanwhile I’m wondering what the deadlines on the devs are if they’re doing this.
-
Victor just grew up a little, don’t worry about it.
-
I’ve also been told that some do it as a form of vigilantism. Essentially, they think they ‘even the scales’ by adjusting values as they see fit.
I personally don’t buy it, but it was an interesting thought, at least.

But that's the point surely. Killers only get Henry's perks that manage to enter the meta. While survivors also had a a little contenders. Five moves ahead are decent, lend a hand is cool. But otherwise truly nothing crazy. I believe every perk should be a viable pick rather than a nieche or meme. Whispers, let's say… if they make it so it every 30s reveals auras in your TR it would be way better.
My point is that while the idea might be good, seeing it go past the community’s sometimes overzealous scrutiny is something of a feat of its own these days.
-
The issue tends to be that, to cause a meta shake-up, the meta needs to, be, well, shaken up.
That means either the meta needs nerfs, which will be met with resistance, or other perks need to be buffed, which will be met with resistance.
Or new perks need to trump the meta, which… you get my point.

Try playing without killers power then, all you really need is perks and sometimes not even those. All you need to do is tunnel of course.
I have. It was a slog. I thought we agreed on that.
It's really not comparable.
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103793#Comment_4103793
Not really, just like it's not really viable for survivors to come in with no items.
And that's where I heavily disagree.
Try it, you'll find you really only need perks, and sometimes not even those.
Unless you're tunnelled, of course, in which case neither will really help you.
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103789#Comment_4103789
It's as viable as survivors not using any items.
Then let me ask you this:
Is it viable?
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103736#Comment_4103736
Anyway can you come up with an actual argument yet or is name calling and fallacies the only thing you have?
If you think a killer using M1 only is viable, then I really don’t know what to tell you.
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103638#Comment_4103638
And a killer can do well without a power, all they technically need is the ability to m1 just like technically the survivors only need the ability to repair generators. Once again you are just arguing for special treatment.
No, I’m not.
I hate to say it, but if you think a killer that ONLY M1’s is going to do well, to the same level a survivor without an item can do well, you’re frankly delusional.
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103632#Comment_4103632
Neither are using the abilities they have. It's not complicated.
But thats also where the similarities end. This is still an asym, with asymmetrical components, and trying to make them seem symmetrical doesn't really make sense.
Like cogsturning said, a killer can't choose to not bring their power. A survivor can do plenty well without an item.
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103600#Comment_4103600
Special pleading, survivor's items are largely equivalent to killer powers in terms of strength. Four survivors who know what they are doing with their builds is going to have more impact on how the match goes from their items than say skull merchant. None of your arguments thus far show any reason why killers deserve special treatment and thus your whole argument boils down to nothing more than a logical fallacy.
That's because I wasn't arguing for special treatment. What I don't get is how you claim a killer using only M1 is similar to a survivor not using an item.
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103588#Comment_4103588
Dude, come up with a better argument than one that's literally just a logical fallacy.
You're gonna need to elaborate on what the fallacy is.
-
@esarraf said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103498#Comment_4103498
Yeah, I can be. Because four survivor items is extremely impactful on how the game goes just like the killers power is extremely impactful on how the game goes. Both survivors and killers don't technically need to use their 'power' to win but it makes things drastically easier. Either way I don't see why killers need special treatment. Either survivors should get to pick their items just like how killers get to pick theirs or it should all be random.
Items do not "drastically make things easier" to the same degree a killer power does. A killer power is the game itself. It's what determines how the opposing players interact. It determines what the threat actually is; what to look out for, what's not a threat.
An item just speeds up an action, and/or unlocks one.
Not to mention that items are depletable. Killer powers are not. And before you mention it, no that does not exclude Huntress/Trickster, they can reload indefinitely in a locker, without the need of a perk.

I believe I read what you wrote quite clearly. If someone doesn't want to spend money on DBD, them being forced to play to earn this made up in-game currency, will not make them suddenly want to spend money on other things. So, again, Iridescent Shards do not put money in the developers pockets. My response to that person is still 100% true, regardless on if someone does spend money on other in-store cosmetics and DLCs or not.
I think you underestimate the psychological warfare going on in this live service game.
-
@sp1nu_ said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103365#Comment_4103365
But do they make money directly by spending Iridescent Shards on cosmetics? No. So lowering the price it costs to purchase original DLCS would not affect them. 9000 shards x 2 = 18,000 Iri Shards, when it could be 4,500 per killer/survivor and it wouldn't affect them in the slightest. People would still play the game regardless. Purchasing paid DLCs and other in-store cosmetics is completely irrelevant to the fact. So back to my original statement; Iridescent Shards do not put money in the developers pockets.
You did not read what I wrote.
It's indirect revenue. It keeps people playing, which in turn keeps people spending.
-
@esarraf said:

M1, same way that a survivor does not need to use their items.
You cannot seriously be equating that.
-
This is a topic that’s been brought up many, many times.
It’s not really ‘autoaim’, it’s what the devs call ‘Aim Dressing’, which is essentially a mechanic that tries to make hits look cleaner.
Basically, what happens is that when the game registers you’re about to hit a survivor (as in, this is a guarantee), it pulls you towards the survivor just a little bit, so that the hit looks like it actually hit the survivor, and not just the invisible hitbox.
However, almost all of us have experienced this system actively robbing us of hits, sometimes pulling us into collision, sometimes causing an outright miss. The devs said, years ago at thos point, that they’d look into the order of operations, so that the hit-robbing would no longer occur, but iirc they never did.
-
Not entirely the point of your thread, but this is why I wonder what ‘status quo DbD’ looks like these days.
What does a regular match of DbD look like, without any perks or add-ons?
How likely is a killer to tunnel? How likely is survivors slamming out gens?

Ds is not the best anti-tunnel tool actually, it's Shoulder the burden, a better anti-tunnel tool which can be combined with ds and it's a guarantee win if killer tunnels, if DS is "best Anti-tunnel tool" but killer can just tunnel through then I feel like it wouldn't be such a meta and something else would be used instead of it like off the record maybe, like DS is literally the reason it's easy to win against tunneling.
How is it a guaranteed win?
DS against a killer with mobility is nothing more than an inconvenience. StB might massively backfire, and doesn’t magically make the weakest link not the weakest link.
They’re stalling tools, nothing more. If that stalling is enough to make you lose games, then I have to ask why you allowed the other survivors to do gens nigh-uncontested.

Iridescent Shards do not put money in the developers pockets. They are a made up in-game currency…
See, that’s not entirely true.
While they don’t have any direct monetary value, grinding for it does mean you’re repeatedly exposed to the game’s monetisation schemes, like the store, or even paid chapters. Repeated exposure is bound to make you budge for other paid content.
You may be able to resist it, but others are quite susceptible to these kinds of tactics. -

Killers can choose to use their abilities or not. Same thing.
??
It’s really not. How’s a killer expected to do anything without using their power?

The sight of blood made me squeamish. Real blood still does sometimes.

Chaos Shuffle: The killer is free to choose their character.
Lights Out: The Survivors also get no TR, no stain (iirc), and, let's not forget, severely hampered vision.
And Killers get Franklin's.

Yeah, I mean, this one was largely created by the community; I don't see why we should have to grind for it. If the community designed it, we ought to be able to access it—it is a community chapter, after all. It should stand apart from the others a bit; they asked for input from all players, not just those with over 18k Iridescent Shards.
I mean, we only made the creative decisions. The actual labour - the actual creation - was still very much done by BHVR.
Not to mention the concepts we picked were also made by them.

You can dismiss pinned posts by finding an '…' icon, it should give you the option to dismiss pins. From there, they'll be sorted chronologically, just like all other posts.

I was definitely being a bit hyperbolic mentioning vigil.
but even without vigil a 3 second exhaust is nothing, you can easily walk/hold check spots to get your exhaust down.
plus if vigil is in play, that counters so many other options on a large amount of killers across the board.Oh no I agree I thought Vigil was overtuned, I just thought it countering a 3 second effect is kind of a non-issue.
-
@Slurp_Ramen said:
I actually laughed out loud when they nerfed sauna rock on Jason to 3 seconds.
not only can you dodge the jumpscare already, if you have vigil you walk for like 1.9 seconds and you can sprint burst away for free.
As always, whenever perks are changed they usually look at them in a vacuum and never take into account other perks.Maybe I’m being a bit silly, but isn’t a perk coutering one (1) of Jason’s add-ons… okay?

I do feel the need to point out that DbD doesn't have a patent on tally marks.

Well, they did announce a big update series starting sometime next year.
Though I fear ping issues aren’t easily solvable by engine fixes alone.
