    Sigh.

You guys ever get into an argument with others while your friends there to back you up, and then you have that one friend that tries to burn the other side with something clever, but ends up saying something so stupid and just ends up embarrassing themselves and you?

Fibjean, you are that friend right now.

Listen bud, if you don't have reliable internet, that's very unfortunate but you should be considerate of other players and not make them suffer your poor internet as well.

I do, most of the time. It was a one-time occurrence, which I fixed after a couple of hours (both of which I mentioned in my comment) and the only people that really suffered for it were the three friends I was playing with at the time.

My point was that, even though it was an issue which only lasted for a few games before it was resolved, if the system outlined by the comment to which I was replying had been in place then, I wouldn't have been able to play the game for the next week. And that's a problem.

no, it won't happen because after the fourth infraction you have a 30 minutes ban and you'll desist from playing altogether :P.

    Sad cause it's true 😥

  • Here's what you do in that scenario:

Say to your friend "Sorry mate, just got into a game, give me ten minutes and I'll join you."

Your friend says, "Oh okay, sure thing, I'll just watch YouTube/play my own game/do whatever for a few minutes while I wait."

You finish your game, you hop into one with your friend, the two of you have a great time, problem solved. And no one else's game got ruined because of it.

  • You were correct. At the time of writing this comment, the level IV release is due in about 25 minutes.

That's a fair point but it's only for one day. If they said it would last a week then I'd understand people complaining. I just find it annoying seeing 5 threads about the dc penalties, when they have a section dedicated to feedback.

Yeah, I agree. I don't have huge issues with it, the timing just isn't great. But I too wish people would post in the feedback thread, because even though I'm sure the devs will read all the feedback they can find even outside of the official thread, it makes it a lot easier to have it all in one place.

If you are having those kind of connection issues then go play a single player game for the evening. Nobody in an online game wants to play with Mr. Crashesalot.

They sure don't. It was rather disappointing for the friends I was playing with, and for me as well. That's why I fixed the issue, because I knew there was a way to fix it but I needed to play several more games in order to troubleshoot the problem. After that, it was fine. But if this system had been in place then, I wouldn't have been able to play with my friends at all that evening even after the problem had been solved, and that's the point I was making.

It may well be labelled as an anti-tunnelling perk but first and foremost it is just her perk. She had the opportunity to use it as part of a save attempt, so why wouldn't she use it? She is also not guaranteed to get to use it next time she gets unhooked either.

The idea of it being "abused" is ridiculous. It is a tool she had at her disposal. She used it. Killers can pick whatever perks they want and so can survivors. The whole idea of making excuses to camp/tunnel/abuse people based on the perks they have used is dumb.

This isn't directed at you, I know you're just explaining what I have asked. My issue is that thos community has really bizarre ideas about what the opposing team can and can't use in their perk slots.

    I completely agree.

  • @Mountichan said:

I'm not really sure why everyone is so obsessed with making people play matches they want them to play.

Personally, if you dc while loading, even if intentionally, I lose nothing. The match never loads, I keep my offerings, you keep yours, nobody gets hurt. Yet people cry about it like they lost 300000 bloodpoints just from that. Can we like, just be adults and let everyone live and play how they want? If you don't want to play serious against a mori, fine, I get it, it's really not fun. Don't want to play against a survivor group that switches last second to whatever you dislike and put on a map offering you don't want to play? Feel free to leave, I couldn't blame you less.

The problem with this game is, that it's not a real competetive game or even a game you can take serious. It's in probably its WORST state in terms of a working game. Countless bugs, crashes, lags with dedicated servers, delay issues and so many things to still fix until you could maybe CONSIDER implementing a dc penalty. And then again, there's SO SO many variables that makes people dc you can't just go on and punish people for the game bugging out etc.

All these people even wanting a penalty for suiciding on hook are out of their mind. You should never be forced to play something you don't want to, especially not in a buggy mess like DbD.

If people don't want to play DBD, they shouldn't play DBD. They know what they're signing up for when they click that Ready button. Once they've committed to a game, they need to do the grown-up thing and follow it through even if it doesn't go their way, or accept the consequences if they don't.

  • @Waldorf_2R3 said:

Its not like they are going to just ban people, they do look into it, and when it comes to people who kill themselves on first hook just report them and they'll look into that too.

They won't look into it if you report someone for killing themselves on first hook. That's not a reportable offence, so it will just be ignored.

  • You should. It's actually a legitimate bug that's happening to a lot of people right now.

  • @MPUK said:

I would love for the term "Abused her DS" to be explained in plain English, please?

Because DS has been advertised as an anti-tunneling perk, some people consider it abusive or exploitative to make use of the perk in situations where the user hasn't actually been tunneled, such as if they get unhooked and the killer downs and hooks another survivor, and the DS user gets downed while rescuing the second survivor and their DS is still active.

It's silly, because of course they're going to use their perk if it activates. They can't reasonably be expected to do otherwise.

  • I've thought about this before as well, but the problem is DbD is quite a fast-paced game, even if it doesn't always feel like it when you're in it. A minute makes a lot more difference in DbD than it does in, say, League, which is another game I know where this is a feature.

Having said that, I don't really see how this would be much worse than going AFK for a minute, and a temporarily absent teammate is better than a permanently eliminated one.

So maybe you're onto something here.

The best comparison I can make to a game I have played is World of Warcraft for dungeons or Battlegrounds. Quit on your team and you get a 15-30 minute timeout from doing group stuffthe first time BUT BUT BUT the difference is WoW has single player options too you can quest while you wait or shop the Auction House.

If DBD had a different mode, or if the penalties were split between Killer and Survivor maybe? So if you DC as a killer because you get stuck then you can at least play around on survivor a bit?

I suspect WoW also has more stable servers and less frequent crashes.

That was sarcasm don't worry. But who knows it might be true LOL.

You got me. It genuinely sounds like it could be true. Although it's more likely that from 6 it jumps to 24, and then to a week, that's still not much better and my point still stands if that turns out to be the case.

  • @KillermainBTWm8 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/929238#Comment_929238

turns out after the 6 hour ban it's 7 days. At the rate the punishments expand I actually wouldn't be surprised.... after 1 hour it just jumps to 6 hours like jesus...

So you're telling me that if I'm having internet issues and I disconnect from seven games in the space of an evening (which has happened to me once before, because after the first two or three times it happened I tried several different solutions in between games until I found one that worked)... I could be banned from rejoining the queue for an entire week?

    Something is very wrong here.

Not all, but some of them are pretty underwhelming and not really worth the 7k, I agree.

  • @Sonzaishinai said:

    I agree it's still a bit wonky

Killers with instadowns and trapper getting punished for playing the way they are meant to play is sad

I remember @ScottJund had an interesting idea that he posted in another thread around fixing this exact problem, with the general idea being that different killers should receive boosts in the emblems in which they suffer as a result of their design.

Easiest solution I can think of is making struggle phase 2 automatic instead of mashing Space... makes them wait another minute and someone can save them also helps people who are complaining about carpal tunnel from it lol

Perhaps. I do think something needs to be done about the struggle mechanic, but I also think hook suicides is a separate, albeit related, issue and they should be focusing on getting the DC penalties right first. One problem at a time.

  • @DWolfAlpha said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/113473/no-one-escapes-the-endgame

So, you just have to have noed equipped, and the survivors hooked have to die on hook after gate is open. Got it with survivors hooked already, then opening the gate myself. The gate doesn't have to be open already when you hook them, just when they die.

To be specific, they have to enter the sacrifice animation after the gate is open. If you hook them on their first or second hook and then open the gate, it will count towards the challenge, but if you hook a survivor on their third hook and open the gate before the sacrifice animation finishes, it won't count.

It's just a suggestion. It's only there for 2 days, they've had a lot worse in the game for longer. Anyone who has bad internet or maybe gets unlucky with bugs should just take a 2 day break.

It's a pity that one of those days is the day the final set of challenges release, though. Lots of people who might otherwise be happy to take a break will be wanting to play during that time.

  • @justaSpirit_phase said:

I don’t think you should get the penalty if your Wi-Fi goes out

You should, because otherwise people will turn off their internet to disconnect from the game (I've seen it done in the past instead of disconnecting, because you used to be able to keep your item if your connection went out).

They have to punish for all instances of disconnecting in order for the system to be at all effective, but in my opinion the punishments should escalate more slowly than they currently do in order to compensate for the relative frequency of disconnects due to game crashes or net issues.

Since they decided to not grant the event cosmetics to all players it might mean that they also won't grant DG masks to console players. If the mask can be acquired on PC for free now that DG is free, it's really just up to the devs at this point.

    Yep, pretty much.

  • @PolarBear said:

Can people on PC get the cosmetic for free now since DG is free? I wouldn't know since I bought them game. If this is the case, then it would make sense for the mask to come out on console.

Yep. I never bought Deathgarden, but I downloaded it after it became free-to-play and I now have the mask in DBD. As I outlined in my comment above, though, there are other reasons why the devs might still decide not to give it out to all players.

  • @Nicholas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/929320#Comment_929320

I'm not really familiar with any of this but didn't they also recently say they don't want to do any exclusive going forward and that's why they gave away all the cosmetics? So them saying they won't do it, was that before or after the Cosmetic philosophy change.

I don't believe they have actually stated anything definitive with regards to the Deathgarden mask. The only reason to believe that console players won't be able to acquire it is because the conditions for doing so are not accessible to console players.

It's possible that they will grant the mask to console players regardless, on the grounds that they want to minimise platform-exclusive cosmetics. It's also possible that they won't grant the mask to console players on the grounds that those who acquired it on PC had to pay money to do so (although now that Deathgarden is free-to-play, that's less true than it once was) and/or that it doesn't face the same issues with third-party reselling that many of the code-based cosmetic items did. We won't really know until the devs decide to issue an official statement on the subject.

  • @Sonzaishinai said:

With the tome challenges keys are pretty common now actually

I think there is a challenge with a key?

    Not sure though

No, but there are challenges which require the player to escape the match, so a lot of people have been bringing keys for those as a kind of insurance.

  • She didn't abuse DS. She used DS.

She didn't do anything wrong, any more than you did. What you did was fine and perfectly justified, but that's because it was a smart and legit play, not because Laurie somehow "deserved" it.

The only thing anyone did wrong in that scenario was making unsafe rescues when you were close enough nearby to capitalise on them.

  • @johnmwarner said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/929325#Comment_929325

I don’t think there was a big drop in players, I think a lot of players who played both sides have gone exclusively to survivor... just a hunch I have no stats to back that up admittedly

It does seem that way to a degree - I can't speak for other regions, but lately killer queues in my region (Sydney server) have been practically instant, while survivor queues take several minutes. That might change when the fourth level of the Tome comes out in a few hours, though.

  • @Uxoricide said:

Some of the 20k drop are probably those who tried the game for free as there are free weekends etc running but speaking as a former killer main I switched to survivor mostly as most killers have gotten boring to play with the way they're updating them, cooldowns especially...

Just for the record, OP is wrong. There was no 20k drop. There wasn't even a 2k drop.

If i had a dollar for every ebony momento mori ive gotten. (Id have a lot because ebony pops up every bw for being a ultra rare addon apparently). I dont even like using it so i have like 30 saved up. Its weird because ive only gotten 3 red keys in my lifetime of playing survivor at level 50.

Survivors have more ultra rare "things" in general, as opposed to the two (or even one, in some cases) add-ons and one offering that killers have. So it makes sense that moris would be more common in bloodwebs than keys. But yes, that's exactly my point - the main problem with ultra rares is that they come up way more than they should in bloodwebs for being so powerful, which means they come up way more than they should in-game.

  • @Endstille said:

Actually no other game cares why you dced.

I agree with the point you're trying to make, but most other games have either a more slowly escalating penalty system, less random crashes or disconnects, and/or a more reliable connection system (such as allowing players to rejoin a game within 30-60 seconds of disconnecting instead of kicking them from the match altogether).

I like that the system is punishing for disconnects that aren't just done through the menu, I think that's the right call, but I also think that, since DBD is quite unreliable when it comes to randomly booting players from matches, the system should escalate at a much slower rate to accommodate for that.

  • @Hex_NoGenrush said:

@Atchoo Hmm understandable, I guess. But it's a shame really that the devs haven't implemented a perk that would automatically prevent generator progression throughout the map, even if it's for a limited amount of time. Would give an incentive to play killers other than god-tier ones.

Would it, though? I'm pretty sure the only thing it would incentivise is leveling the appropriate killer to level 40 to get the teachable so that the player can start using it on their main. No playing of low-tier killers required.

  • The reason the penalties are in place only on dedicated servers is because it allows them to track which players are the ones dropping connection, not because they can tell why the connection is being dropped.

That said, they are able to detect when players leave a match through the menu as opposed to crashing or their internet going out. What they can't detect is whether it is intentional - that is, whether the player left the game on purpose. That includes closing the game or pulling the internet cable. They can't tell the difference between someone switching off their internet to bypass the disconnection penalty and someone's connection to the server just dropping out through no fault of their own.

Basically, apparent crashes and apparent network errors are punished the same way as leaving the match through the menu because otherwise players would just use those methods to easily bypass the penalty. It's the right decision, in my opinion - the only problem with it is that the penalties escalate way too fast as they currently stand and don't take unintentional disconnections into account, meaning that a couple of accidental game crashes or internet issues could get you banned from the queue for upwards of an hour.

  • @Dragonu said:

But the killer played well and the survivors made alot more mistakes jesus imagine balancing your game around " you win you lose sometines " so damn tilting

What philosophy do you think they should balance around instead? "Killers/survivors should always win"?

"You win some, you lose some" should be everyone's attitude to competitive games, honestly. Not just developers, but players in particular. If you go into every game expecting to win, you're going to be disappointed a lot.

Additionally, if you experience any issues with this test (e.g. Skipping straight to a longer penalty after one disconnect), please let us know roughly when it happened. Someone from BHVR will contact you through a private message in order to investigate further.

    Thanks!

Straight from peanits. But they call you liars still lool.

Well, if you say something you believe to be true and then circumstances turn out differently, obviously you were just trying to deceive everyone from the start, right?

  • Since the feature was first added, people have always been punished for disconnecting excessively, and the button has always been there regardless.

It's there to give people who are forced to DC, either because the game is legitimately being held hostage or because they have to quit for irl reasons, a way to do so without forcing the whole game to close.

Both the old penalty system and the new one exist to punish people not for using the feature, but for abusing it.

  • @siren_sorceress said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/929139#Comment_929139

Theres no way it lasts til rank reset. Yeah you cant last an hr or 2 without crashing. Besides the test is only for a few days?

It doesn't last until rank reset, don't worry. I already cleared this up with Multiplenames in a similar post they made, but the devs stated when the system was first announced that "The length of the timer gradually decreases so long as the player does not disconnect from additional matches."

  • It can be disheartening, sure, but so can a lot of mechanics in the game, and that doesn't necessarily mean they need "fixing". My opinion has always been that there's really nothing wrong with ultra-rares except the fact that they're not actually ultra rare.

If it makes you feel better, though, the devs seem to disagree with me on this one given their track record of nerfing overpowered mechanics. So you can probably expect a nerf to both keys and moris at some point in the future. Maybe sooner than you expect - for all we know, it could be something they're working on right now.

  • I don't know who told you that, but they obviously weren't a developer because it's completely untrue.

The last official word we heard on the subject was in the June/July Developer Update when the system was first announced: "The length of the timer gradually decreases so long as the player does not disconnect from additional matches."

So rest assured, whoever told you that DC penalties would only reset once a month was misinformed.

They only have perks on there. They haven't added anything good for us, but for the killers they are just making it easier for them to win.

It matters because we don't have crossplay between PC and console yet. They were just suggesting that you could join a PS4 SWF group because you said you wanted people to play with.

This game crashes quite a bit during match loading. This is not the fault of the player.

If you're on PS4, none of this should affect you. These penalties are only in place on platforms which are using dedicated servers - that is, PC and Switch.

    Winter gifting

    CHANGES TO EVENT COSMETICS UNLOCK

In the latest Dev Update, we announced our plan to unlock a large list of exclusive cosmetics to all players on PC and console. According to the feedback we received, we decided to review the unlocking process for the following cosmetics:

    • Hound (The Huntress – Event Mask)
    • Untamed Donkey Jacket (David King – Event Body)
    • Pro-Pain Hammer (The Hillbilly – Event Weapon)
    • Free Song Bird Slip Dress (Kate Denson – Event Body)

As it was mentioned by many players, these cosmetics were earned during events and were representative of the player's dedication to the game. The way these cosmetics were stored created an issue where a loss of progress was possible, we've since switched to a more secure method of storage for event cosmetics.

At the time of the announcement, last month, we had no way to isolate players who had earned these cosmetics. Since then, we have found a way to isolate the players that have played the event and will be able to restore these four cosmetics on a large scale, only to players that earned them during the events. Keep an eye on the news, this will happen Soon™

    NEW FEATURE

    DISCONNECTION PENALTY FEATURE - TESTING

As of Thursday, December 5th, we will be testing a new feature on our Dedicated Server enabled platforms (Steam, Windows Store and Switch™). This feature is designed to penalize players that are disconnecting from matches.

Users who disconnect from matches will be prevented from joining a new match for a predetermined length of time, which increases after each instance of disconnection. Our objective with this feature is to discourage players from quitting games and will serve a double purpose of excluding users who are already in a negative mental state from re-entering matchmaking until they’ve had a chance to cool down.

The system will also apply if one or more players in a group has an active disconnect penalty, preventing the entire group from joining the matchmaking queue until the penalized members have either cleared their penalty or leave the group.

The incremental penalties will decay naturally over time, starting after the most recent matchmaking ban has completed.

It's possible (but not guaranteed) that we'll get a progress update on this and other things during the livestream tomorrow.

That's what I thought. Not sure what they were going on about.

They might have got confused by this line in the September Dedicated Servers Status Update: "If none of these locations are near you, you will still be able to play the game and have the same experience as before."

Even I'm still not really sure what that's supposed to mean, to be honest.

    Source: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/87216/status-update-dedicated-servers#latest

  • It was exclusive to the Discord Store for a good year when it first came out. It was only re-released on Steam very recently.

First of all, disconnecting intentionally is against the rules, struggling to get off the hook is actually suggested. letting go early, nothing says you have to hit the spacebar or what ever. good lord if you don't like it you gotta try and make it all messed up. it's simple. if there is a rule set (there is) and it says that X is not allowed (it does for disconnecting) then it is punishable.

HOWEVER! I do not like what i heard (that in 6 games the time out went from 5 minutes to 25 minutes including game crashes, etc. this is the hard part of this an automatic system can not account for errors though but it is needed otherwise it won't be effective. ALSO loosing your items, offering (already lost at start of game) and loose two pips is NOT an effective deterant. why? because now they are at a lower rank or on their way to the lower ranks, and most of the time do not even bring items in, so there is no penalty for that plus they get in another match right away and they get blood points again to buy more items.

Personally I think that they should not be allowed to do anything other than exit the game during their time out. no spending blood points, no switching characters, looking at anything. all that is available is the exit button. I also believe there should be a way for you to contact them and tell them about your network outage to remove the point that was not an intentional DC. this is a test though i do not agree on telling people the time frame of this kind of test as well as no way to give feedback on the test (i was loading in and the game crashed, then next time the network dropped me (power outage) etc)

Apologies if I misunderstood your post, but if you're looking for a way to give feedback that the devs are guaranteed to read on the DC Penalty test, you can do so here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/113661/

  • It used to. Nowadays, in my experience, people tend to use it more to mean the opposite.

  • Deathgarden won't be coming to console, which means that it's very unlikely that the mask will either, unless the devs decide to just give it to console players anyway. So I wouldn't hold your breath.
