Go look up tru3etalent, the dbd casefile series from bricky , watch any streamer with tons of in game experiance..its universal..I've played every killer but clown and bubba extensively, I've played a good deal of survivor as well..I've seen just about all I can see here...I've seen it in the past versions of dbd and I've seen it in the time I've been here..just look around you dude

Do... do you know what data means? If that's not anecdotal evidence, I don't know what is.

As for the OP, it's not an overstatement to say that killers are constantly complaining about survivors being too OP, but it very much goes both ways. Why do you think Nurse and Billy are allegedly getting nerfed? It's certainly not because the killers complained...

Which is not to say that none of the complaints are justified, that's a whole different discussion, but I don't think it's fair to make out like killer mains are the only ones doing it.

  • Given how proactive they've been about outfits for other licensed killers, there's no reason why they wouldn't be doing everything they can to get cosmetics for Myers as well. Sometimes negotiations just take a long time, but I'm sure they would have told us either way if the license owners had given them permission or refused entirely.

So I'm guessing the answer to your question is: coming at some point in the future, hopefully.

Yesterday I played a game as surv. When I was doing the last gen a claudette started cleansing a totem in front of the gen. If I could I would snap her. I finished the gen before she cleansed the totem and yes, the totem transformed in the hex one. Please, don't cleanse totems when finishing the last gen!!!

Perhaps I misunderstood, but it seems like you're saying that this person cleansed NOED basically a few seconds after you popped the last gen? That sounds like an ideal scenario to me, I'm not sure what the problem is.

  • I mean... it sounds really unhelpful, I know, but the short answer is "have a better mind". The thing about mindgames is it goes both ways, it's about trying to outsmart each other. I would say use your experience as a killer main to your advantage - try to predict the killer's movements and account for that. If you suspect they might be moonwalking, try to get to a position where you can run either way. If you can't see them, they can't see you either, so if you've been looping them and they're trying to mindgame you, sometimes you can take advantage of that by breaking line of sight and leaving the loop unexpectedly.

If you get a complete full stream on someone it is an insta down in CP like how a full stream in VP is an insta break.

But it doesn't down you as soon as it hits you, which is what the word "instant" implies. A full stream takes several seconds, if a survivor can't dodge or find cover in that time then maybe they deserve to go down.

  • Just because something doesn't have a direct counter doesn't mean it's automatically unbalanced. 95% of the time, it's not very difficult to find and cleanse all the totems if you know where they are likely to spawn. The other 5% of the time, one might spawn in a very well-hidden spot and you never find it, but only having to deal with NOED 5% of the time when you can't find the last totem is not a big deal imo.

I can't confirm this for certain, but I've heard that they always spawn near generators, and you will never find two in the same area - so if you find one next to a generator, you don't need to search around nearby rocks for more. As Might_Oakk mentioned, keep an eye out when you're being chased or carried. Make a mental note of any lit totems that get cleansed by teammates - lit totems are also easier to see, and can be often located by watching the killer's movements and making note of areas they tend to return to often. There are several things you can bring in your loadout to help with totem finding, such as bringing Small Game (which is the closest thing you're going to get to a NOED counter perk) or a map with the ability to track the killer's belongings.

She DOES get CP when all fountains are corrupted. When survivors have used up all available pools, they all reset, and Plague automatically gets CP for whatever set duration it would be at either base, or any relevant equipped add-ons.

Also, CP is only one hit down on broken or (obviously) injured. CP doesn’t even one hit down on healthy survivors that are exposed.

Oh? My mistake, I should have checked that first. I'll delete the original comment to avoid confusion.

... And by delete I mean edit, since apparently you can't delete comments.

  • As a side note, I've also heard people say that CP is one-hit down, which is not true. It does make me wonder whether general misconceptions like this about how her power works are contributing to the idea that CP = gg.

@Fibijean Of course an asymmetrical game could be balanced. That killers and survivors have different mechanics doesn't mean that the game can't be balanced.

Years and months ago, DbD used to be more unbalanced than it currently is. The devs worked on balance and improved the situation, but the game is still unbalanced and needs being worked on.

That's why I prefaced by comment by saying that I don't believe the game is perfect and there's definitely room for improvement. I wasn't arguing that efforts shouldn't be made to balance the game, but that balance arguments made on the basis of wanting every survivor mechanic to have a direct killer equivalent and vice versa are invalid by the very definition of asymmetry.

  • It's not perfect, of course, but the thing a lot of people don't seem to take into account is that it's about as balanced as an asymmetrical game can be.

I often see people, when asking for buffs/nerfs, making arguments along the lines of "This survivor/killer mechanic is OP because there's no killer/survivor equivalent."

Well, no. That's because... wait for it... killers and survivors are not the same. And that's the whole point.

  • It's weird that they had the reveal so early, and the double BPs scheduled but no chapter due afterwards, and everything. Perhaps they originally intended for the PTB to be this week and the chapter the week after, but there was some delay in getting it ready for PTB? Maybe they wanted to change some stuff after seeing reactions to the reveal.

  • These are some interesting solutions to the whole "to cleanse or not to cleanse" issue, too, since they either encourage survivors to cleanse or take the power out of the survivors' hands entirely. I'm all for anything that could make an impact on such a divisive and salt-inducing problem.

Personally, I'm a fan of number 3. It doesn't remove the power from the survivors' hands entirely, but it does place them in a preventative role rather than a benevolent one, which I think is better both mechanically and thematically. It also discourages survivors from altruism (if their teammate is infected), completing objectives (if a generator is infected) and looping (if a pallet is infected) because it means that infection has real consequences, which seems both powerful and appropriate for a killer power.

In fact, the more I think about that idea, the more I like it. It reminds me of the get-rid-of-the-thing-or-get-punished mechanic of things like the Pig's power or NOED, which I personally find really fun in a pressured sort of way. The only issue I can see is that it might be too easy to keep her from getting CP. So either VP would need a buff to make it easier to infect everyone (by extending the time objects like generators remain infected, for example, or requiring them to be manually cleansed by survivors) or there would need to be changes made to limit fountain use, for example that they stay corrupted for a minute or so after being used.

  • Don't let it get to you. Some people get way too competitive and don't stop to think about the killer's perspective, they only get as far as "I'm really disappointed I didn't get to use my DS" and take it out on you. It can be frustrating - often when I'm playing SWF, talking in discord or something, there might be some exchange like "This dick is slugging me, my DS is about to run out" "That sucks, what an #########", but we would never seriously expect the killer not to do that because that's exactly what we would do in their position. These guys just took it too far.

As for the report, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you get reported a lot, you're not likely to get banned. Even when people do get reported, I'm pretty sure the devs review the gameplay and stuff before they even get close to punishing the person.

  • I think it would be a good idea, and would encourage more variety in builds, especially when there have been so many dozens of new perks introduced since 4 perk slots was first implemented. Perhaps it would be possible to mitigate the threat slightly by having the fifth perk slot not unlockable until level 50 or something, so you'd have to put in a bit of effort to get it.

The main problem is not that extra perks on both sides would be OP, but that everything else in the game, from items to abilities to maps, has been built around a 4-perk system and would need to be adjusted to accommodate for any changes, which would be a huge undertaking for the devs.

It would be cool to see it tested in a PTB, or added to KYF as a starting point, but I can't really see the devs prioritising something so huge right now when they already have so many other big ideas in the works.

Corrupt Purge is immensely powerful, and while good Survivors can mitigate it, it's too powerful to be taken for granted. The Plague is unbalanceable in her current state because the guaranteed injure of Corrupt Purge is too powerful to give her for free - so it's locked behind Survivors' actions.

The issue is that her Vile Purge stage is just an M1 killer who can expose you over time. Being one-shot isn't a big deal to survivors who can loop, because if they're good at looping, they can do whatever they want in the time they needed and waste your time as killer. The Vile PLague poses no threat because she just perma-injures survivors, narrowing the window of making mistakes, but still enabling Dead Hard and allowing survivors to make a rodeo clown out of her. She can be looped, her time can be wasted - at higher ranks, looping her is the same Broken as it is healthy. She's neutered.

I wouldn't call it a guaranteed injure, though. I do not consider myself a good survivor, probably just above average, and it's possible that I've come up against a bunch of really bad Plagues, but as I mentioned above, I find that CP is dodgable a fair amount of the time just by taking cover when she uses it. It also gives me pause that the two self-declared Plague mains on this thread are both claiming that it's not as powerful as is generally believed.

  • I understand the concerns around balance, and that's a whole other discussion. Regarding the original post, all I can say is that toxicity is not a reason to to limit or remove SWF. Toxic people are toxic no matter what game mode they're playing. Removing SWF is not going to solve that problem.

One could argue that people are less toxic when they're playing solo because of herd mentality, but if they're that determined to be toxic with their friends they'll just circumvent the issue by joining and quitting lobbies until they get in the same one. Which not only brings up a new problem of queue times and lobby dodging, but also means that survivors may then be in a worse mood going into the game because of the inconvenience and therefore more likely to behave badly. So instead of solving the issue, it could potentially just be made worse.

Regarding casual play, I had a similar discussion here where it was debated at length and concluded that it might not be as viable an option as it appears. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/26345/casual-gameplay-please-an-update-on-my-deranking-friend#latest

The other problem is that there are people who aren't toxic and who just want to play competitively with several of their friends because playing with friends is more fun than solo. As several people mentioned above, it doesn't seem right to take that option away from them.

  • @edgarpoop Thanks for your input. That's more or less the conclusion I've come to as well, that Corrupt Purge is not as bad as people make it out to be, but whether or not it's a good idea to cleanse depends very much on how you're playing, how the killer is playing, and what's going on in the game at that moment.

Because I don't see Corrupt Purge as being that terrible, I tend to cleanse whenever I can so I can stop vomiting and keep being sneaky, but try to do so in an out-of-the-way spot. I'm just trying to figure out if that's a bigger mistake than I realise and if so, why.

  • @savevatznick I see your point, but that's assuming that everyone plays or even wants to play at top ranks. At middle or lower ranks, where stealth builds are viable, perhaps cleansing could be a viable strategy for those players? I deliberately don't play a lot at top ranks, so I don't know much about how things work there, but I suspect that, as DudeDelicious mentioned above, Corrupt Purge is not as powerful as it's made out to be.

In fact, it seems like more of a counter to loops, which I guess was the point I was trying to make originally. There appear to be two main options: don't cleanse and loop instead, or stealth, cleanse to keep your stealth, and try to avoid chases. Perhaps, as you say, the latter is not really viable at top ranks, but I feel like either could be an option if you're playing more casually.

  • @DudeDelicious But isn't it a good idea to always assume a killer is competent until proven otherwise? So if you should only cleanse against a good Plague, you should cleanse by default unless you realise you're up against one that's not good?

@savevatznick As I mentioned, I feel like it depends entirely on your build/playstyle/skills whether that strategy is a good idea or not. For people that are good at looping, who run exhaustion perks or aggressive builds, not cleansing at all is a great strategy. But for people whose playing style and builds rely heavily on stealth and not being found in the first place, being infected is a death sentence. It just sucks that whichever you choose, you tend to screw over anyone trying to do the opposite.

  • @justarandy I'm interested to know why you consider it a huge powerup. As I mentioned above, I've found it to be more of a respite from constant infection, because it just feels like playing against a buffed Huntress for the next minute. The other thing I forgot to mention is the mechanic where if all fountains become corrupt, they automatically get purified again, so if everyone is cleansing that might even be a good thing.

Not saying you're wrong, just wondering what your reasoning is for why Corrupt Purge should be avoided.

  • No more odd than staggering after dropping a few inches. In my mind, since the perk is designed primarily to avoid staggering when hitting the ground after a drop, the height requirement for Balanced Landing should be the same as whatever the height requirement for the staggering is (although I'm not certain whether this is already the case or not).

  • @Commander_Fluffles said:

I don't think more slots would be a solution you're looking for, it will just show up with more perks you probably don't want.

Being able to spend X amount of shards to re-roll the shrine on the other hand could end up giving you the perks you want.

I think the reroll idea is a good one, similarly to how daily challenges can be rerolled. But I disagree that the slot idea is not a solution - mathematically speaking, with a pool of perks of a specific number to choose from, wouldn't 6 slots mean a higher chance of rolling a desired perk than a 4?

  • @Raven014 It's the devs' prerogative to lock inconsequential content such as vanity items behind a paywall, especially in the case of licensed characters or cosmetics which have to be exclusively paid content per the agreement the devs have with the license owners. It's not uncommon or unreasonable.

In my opinion, we should count ourselves lucky that (a) the vast majority of cosmetic items are freely unlockable through gameplay, and (b) all the non-licensed DLC content is unlockable without paying a cent. I can't think of many games that allow players to unlock DLC/Expansions without paying. It seems like the devs are already trying to make as much content available for free as possible while maintaining a financially viable business model.

  • While I cannot provide anything other than circumstantial evidence to back this up, I'm 99% sure that the loading screen tips for survivors do pertain to the killer faced. I've noticed that recently these tips seem to come up more than once, which could be a bug, but until a few months ago those "Facing the ---" tips only appeared the very first time a survivor faces a particular killer.

I'm basing this on my own experience when new chapters are released and also that of friends who are new to the game. In my experience, without fail, whenever a player has never faced a this particular killer before, the relevant tip appears as the first tip on the pre-match loading screen. (Although, as I've said, lately I've noticed them appearing beyond just the first time).

  • @Skarkio While I understand not getting the joke due to the amount of people on these forums that do post stupid suggestions like those in the OP, given that you were not only wrong but kind of a jerk in the first place, this is the part where you say "oh haha my mistake I'm sorry" instead of defending your mistake by implying that it's OP's fault his humour was too subtle for you.

  • This could be a good idea, although the conversion rate would have to be better balanced in my opinion. Right now, there's no real incentive to convert shards to BPs using the shrine because the time it takes to earn 2000 shards is far longer than earning 200k BPs.

@Raven014 As nice as it would be to be able to buy everything with shards (which I assume is the reason you want to be able to convert between the two) there is a good reason why it's not already a thing. If we could convert shards to cells, there would be no point in having separate currencies. The whole point of cells is to have an in-game currency which is only attainable using real life currency.

  • @Atrushan88 Fair point, it definitely could be that. I just stated the seemingly obvious because there wasn't any other information given in the OP that suggested it was a problem with the game.

  • That means there's something wrong with your internet connection.

  • I don't know if this has been fixed, but a while ago there were some problems where Dead Hard sometimes seemingly just didn't activate when you pressed the button.

  • @GrootDude said:

But this game is also perceived as competitive to a lot of people so in their minds anything goes.

In other words, we have to accept that a significant proportion of people are jerks who don't care about sportsmanship unless there are consequences involved. Which is true, but the fact that it's understandable doesn't mean that it's excusable or shouldn't be called out.

  • @Raptorrotas said:

    @Thaznar

I never stated i was a dev nor did I asume or know the devs stated it an "exploit" or not. All I did was stating the fact that looping is, by definition of exploits, an exploit

"In video games, an exploit is the use of a bug or glitches, game system, rates, hit boxes, speed or level design etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers." Incase you or others didnt read my provided link, this is the first sentence of the article.

Now please tell me that looping isnt extending the chase duration by taking advantage of (synonym for "to exploit" btw) the difference in collision sizes around objects.

I am aware wikipedia isnt the most credible of sources to use but the article provided atleast includes the controversy of exploits being good or bad, the reasaon we're even discussing this.

"And while killers can still get looping survivors because theyre faster and have bloodlust, Bloodlust was given to killers because chases were taking too long, probably the reason being looping"

Im not actually too fond of continuing this discussion because it's obvious looping will not be adressed, either because its not an "exploit" or survivormain agenda

I'm going to be that person and point out that, per the definition you quoted in this exact comment, something cannot be considered an exploit unless it falls outside of the game designers' intentions. Given that the devs themselves have confirmed that they do not consider looping an exploit, it cannot be considered one under your definition.

Seriously, anti-SJWs are more annoying than SJWs.

Censorship by who rofl, no country that has many ppl playing DBD would censor them for religious context.

Also the general population would probably disagree with your opinion about anti-SJWs at least if youtube and social media is a good source to go by.

China would've censored the game for the Doctor if he'd been Asian. Christians in the USA throw a hissy fit any time someone portrays their particular flavor of christianity in a bad light or just dares to release something they find offensive. You're seriously underestimating how many countries would boycott and/or ban this game for minor things.

The general population is neither explicitly for nor explicitly against SJWs, and we agree that both sides are (at least) equally annoying. This discussion had nothing to do with SJWs, but you just had to bring up the subject.

The US CAN not censor games based on religion so that point is moot, them throwing a fit would be actual free advertisement. China doesn't care about religion if it's portrayed in a bad way.

And so what? Let's say just three countries ban the game. That's not only several million potential customers you're deprived yourself of, but also several thousand current customers who can no longer purchase or make use of your product, all for the possibility of stirring up enough ######### with manufactured controversy that you'll make up for that with free advertisement.
Companies that want to make money don't intentionally deprive themselves of customers. It's absurd.

Who cares, can't please everybody. I don't think DBD would ever gain traction in for example Indonesia where such things matter in the first place.

I think Orion's point is that the devs are "who cares", or at least they should be if they want to keep making money. Also, they're the ones with the actual statistics, so they would actually know where their playerbase lies. Given that somewhere between a quarter and a third of the world's population self-identify as Christian, probably a sizeable chunk of dbd players are too, and that's a lot of people they could potentially piss off for no good reason. Especially if you include non-Christians who simply consider it in bad taste to demonise an entire religion. In short, it doesn't really matter if one person thinks it's fine, from a business standpoint it's not necessary and won't do them any favours in the long run.

Fair enough. At the point where someone would rather wait 45 minutes in a game than give in to another player's rudeness and end things, assuming the OP was talking about teabagging at the exit gate and not actually holding games hostage, yes that is a matter of pride and nothing else and is the killer's fault. Not because they're the killer, just because of their personal failings. In short, I do blame the killer for wasting their own time.

I am not, however, excusing or in any way blaming the killer for the survivor's bad behaviour, which is what you seemed to be implying. That's what I was reacting to. If you weren't suggesting that, then I apologise.

  • As others have said, more likely than not it's a game crash or EAC issue. Most of the time people that DC that early aren't doing it on purpose. Having said that, there are cases in which someone will DC because they refuse to play on a certain map, but I think that's pretty rare.

The Pig isn't played too often either, so I think a lot of people don't know how she works. I've seen new survivors not even try to remove the traps. Also it would depend on the killer, like the RBTs are more likely to get kills if the Pig is patrolling the boxes and preventing survivors from removing them.

  • All map offerings do is increase the chance of going to a certain map, they don't actually guarantee anything. So if there are multiple offerings burnt for different maps, it sucks if you don't get yours but it's not a "waste", in the sense that it's not unfair or needs to be refunded because it still did what it was supposed to do. Same as if only one person burns an offering but you don't get that map - it's not guaranteed, so it sucks but it isn't unfair or a bug or anything.

You've never used Myers with insidious? It is hilarious even Monto uses it. Idk everything about this killer reeks of oversight issues it's like they went out of their way to make him feel freddy weak and make stabbing someone over and over again feel dissatisfying :/.

I don't own Myers. Maybe that was a bad example, it was just off the top of my head, based on the idea that Myers' power encourages him to be moving around the map charging and downing survivors. The point was all killers have perks that don't fit very well with their kit. You're probably right in that Legion has less perks that are adapted to his playstyle, because it's very different to what we've had in the past, it breaks the basic killer mould around which most other perks have been balanced in a couple of significant ways. So that's fair enough, but I hope it's just a consequence of breaking new ground and they'll be giving him more to work with in the future.

I understand the dissatisfaction, but honestly if it bothers you just don't play him. Not everyone is going to enjoy playing every killer, that's why they all have different powers and strategies. Some people may love Legion because of how agile he is, and not really care about having to stab someone a few times to down them.

thank you im glad someone can see what i am. as i said before all i want is to help make these forums better

You're one of my favourite people on here honestly. I always enjoy reading your comments and seeing you trying to be kind to people wherever you post :) We need more of that.

thank you! your one of my favorite posters as well it seems we both share the same sense of being a decent person how can one person derive joy knowing they are taking it from others everyone equally having fun is what we all need to look for

Exactly. Playing competitively is fun, but when you have to walk all over other people to do it it's not that enjoyable anymore. The best games I ever have are the ones where everyone just has a really good time, even if I lose. A lot of people think that it doesn't matter if you're kind to strangers or not because you'll never see them again, but personally I think that if you're only kind to people when you get something out of it then what does that say about you? Not to mention that a wholesome, friendly environment is just more fun to be in overall!

yeah exactly i really wish their was a online lobby for kyf when all people are in the same voice chat everyone really shines and no one gets angry (if they're reasonable) because if anyone thinks something was unfair then so what their friend will rectify it kyf is the best mode in this game and the cold hardheartedness in the community is too large to be ok we all should unite together after all it doesn't matter if your a killer or a survivor were all here trapped in the fog under the entity's gaze

Haha well said, that would be pretty awesome. Maybe we should make a discord server or something for friendly DbD players...

i should change the title of this discussion because it absolutely changed tracks

Ahhhh yep whoops. Went down a good track though.

better than most posts glad to have someone like you to support me the forums have had a recent spike in hate

Aw thanks :) Got your back, man.
