I thought the game was in development limbo hell over the rights to the franchise?

after the switch release they can work on it again but I think it's back in limbo hell? I know for a bit they were.

@Elvenmonk, I was thinking of making a topic on friday explaining why this system can be a lot better so thank you for beating me to it because I couldn't probably explain better myself.

    Just a small note:

"...let's be honest survivor skins don't matter (says the surv main). "

Although I get what you mean, they can also, further along the way, apply it to survivors in relation to how they perform against each killer.

By the reasons the OP explained in is OP, they can easily keep improving the system without having to continuously explain them to the comunnity. The ranking system has a clear emblem system where you know exactly what you need to do to level up and any change needs to be informed so that people know in what they need to concentrate go get to high ranks and get that feeling of self acomplishment.

This system being hidden means you will have to continuously do the best you can in all aspects of the game if you want to raise your MMR because at any point in time they can had more conditions that can contribute to it to improve it and make players experience more enjoyable.

Skin bit was me being silly.

  • Sometimes your party gets you to 99 killer catches them you split off and need that last 1%.

  • @Smeagol said:

Let's wait and see how they will handle this new system. I hope they realize we have high expectations now, and if they come up with a lazy ass system that is based on the emblems that's not gonna cut it.

Yeah. It depends on how they do it. If they have it tied to how you play, then that's good. Emblems, well, why?

  • Shaq from Kazzam needs to be added before any non-horror movie people get added. Everyone knows it's the scariest movie ever.

The issue of live service games is that they change. Anyone who has been an online gamer since the 00's can tell you that. (90's most stayed the same tbh). Online parts of games can drastically change.

I run DS, DH and unbreakable I have a chance of hatch is close

I don’t really care much, but it’s a good point why is that one person denied any chance? They just get one hooked and bye

and? Jump off. Get hit because who leaves the last hook. Also because you can be hit the second you land but can't use DH then.

Bring yourself up because unbreakable. Get hit again right away. Wait the rest of the 20 seconds. You also can't use DH the second you get up from nomither and unbreakable. However, you can be hit the second you stand.

Perks are the real meat of the game, in my eyes. It's what keeps things fresh after all these years. Of course, if you're just after the best of the best, you could completely overlook them. Personally, I love some of the more recent perks. Head On, Inner Strength, and Any Means Necessary have all become favourites of mine. Even if they aren't the most practical, they switch up the game and make it a lot more interesting.

That's not to say that new killers and maps aren't nice, but sometimes a new killer isn't your cup of tea, and a perk works on any of them (even if the combo with some better than others).

    I use the rock

I'm guessing you've never played DOTA if you think it's a balanced game with limited variable and that MMR works at all. MMR in DBD would would just as well (or just as poorly) as it does in DOTA. After enough games, better players will have a higher number. Just like in DOTA, you'd need to play a massive number of games to get anywhere close to a useful number.

The only game where an ELO system actually works the way it's intended is for the game it was created for, chess.

  • Sure but some killers will be objectively better. It's just the issue of competitive games.

Like a fully optimized legion or clown will never compare to a fully optimize Billy or Freddy.

In fighting games we have tier lists but I have won tournaments with low tier "impossible to win" characters before. I used to be called a garbage man because I always picked the lowest of tier characters. I had to work way harder then others but it paid off.

Tier list just means most options, best skills, easiest to win with, etc. It already accounts for most optimization.

Like in blazblue calamity trigger Rachel is top tier with bang being bottom tier. Bang can beat Rachel but he doesn't have as many options, good frames, damage output, and more. Statistically Rachel will beat bang 99% of the time in this version of blazblue.

The same is here. In most scenarios Billy just comes out on top. There's even some where stock Billy beats optimized other killers. Which is why he is top tier. Clown has such limited potential that I can't even think of a scenario he is good at that others aren't better at

All of those things literally broke the game and were basically uncounterable. Yet all of the killer nerfs have been in the name of "reducing survivor frustration". Oh, and the DS change was a sidegrade. Just like damn near every so called survivor nerf. No survivor nerf to date besides pallet vacuums and the exhaustion nerf has noticeably reduced survivor power. Try another image.

Insta flash reduced their power and so did botany+ self care nerf.

Being able to keep a killer trapped while everyone did gens was a big power move.

Just because I'm not a professional chef doesn't mean I don't know how a steak dinner should taste like.

While I don't know how to program myself, I know several people who do. One of them being my brother, who I've seen work countless times and he talks to me about how he does things. So while I don't know the specifics about programming or how to code, I do know enough to have an understanding that changing a window on a single map in Unreal 4 if the game is programmed properly, let alone a few windows on a few maps, should not be hard to do and it should definitely not take 6 months map to do it.

    @Ol_Philly_Six said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1025933#Comment_1025933

"despite not having any programming knowledge"... So what you're saying is you are talking out of your [BAD WORD], and have admitted to having no idea what you're talking about?? Cool, thanks for clearing that up.

Programming has nothing to do with map making in ue.

You need to know 0 coding to make maps. Most level designers can't code but instead script. That's just for sequencing the levels which dbd doesn't have.

Dbd maps are basic maps sans the rng aspect. If not for the rng you could make and pop out a dbd map in no time once the design was finished because there's no sequences past spawn. It's basically like a killing floor map, at least gameplay wise. Spawn and play. It's not like say fallout with scripts, quests,etc... Where the level designers have to make the levels and then script in all the quests

Here's a general overview of game dev:

Level designers draw up maps and make them. They then give them to artist to finish up with assets. Then they will script in what needs to be scripted in. Enemies? Them. Loot drop like xeno blade chronicles? Them. Quests? Them. Anything to do with the level or the map they do.

Artist- make art and put it in the game and test it out. Many projects I've worked on they've never done past this but I do know artists at AAA studios who double up on jobs.

In general they design the look, feel, world etc. Art stuff

Programmers: we get yelled at for every little thing. Our job is the math, functions, back end, and all that jazz. However, there are multiple types of programmers. For instance a bug fixer, my usual job, fixes bugs. I'm good at isolating and fixing others people's code. I struggle at making code from scratch. Which is funny because I do that a lot these days.

Network coders do just that. Network black magic. These guys are crazy and a gift from God.

Engine coders make, fix, and do whatever to the engine. It's a really fun job with tons of physics and math. But they get the game running then keep it running when the rest add and break stuff.

These are the three basic groups of game dev and their general roles.

I wanted to stress coders because everyone thinks we do it all when there are specialised coders for each thing.

He doesn't really have to counter any points you're making because they're all just opinions that are subjective. There are people who will disconnect on Ormond over Haddonfield these days because of how bad it is and how connected every single tile is. Whether or not you think it's an awesome map you love is equally irrelevant from a balance standpoin, since you're most assuredly wrong

Just a fyi, immersed does this a lot. He made an entire thread with ill informed opinions on fnaf and why it shouldn't be added to dbd (feel free to agree or disagree) but when others corrected him because all of his opinions are based on misinformation he double downed with "if you can't see my opinions as valid then yours for wanting fnaf aren't valid" when the reason people wanted it is because we like the series and think it'd be fun.

Then later tried to say he wasn't being a fun police and contradicted himself constantly after. It was funny.

Feel free to argue with him but it's like arguing which Ninja Turtleis the best with him.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/122908/this-is-getting-out-of-hand

Sounds about right, killers are desperate, nothing else is working. They are doing whatever they can to squeeze some enjoyment or effectiveness out of their games because they know they can't compete.

Okay okay, so say they all need to "git gud" okay that's fair, but if the survivors are all THAT much better and more skilled with their 4 man toolbox gen rush; why are the killers being put up against them every game? Shouldn't that killer be put against survivors more on their level so both sides have a chance?

There is this level of ego where all the killer players don't want to admit they are struggling, that they may not be red rank killers; that the ones who are being honest and BEGGING for some assistance so that they don't lose 30 games in a row, are being chewed out by survivor mains especially, for not being good enough.

JFC all anyone wants is a fair game, to feel like maybe they have a chance in hell, that's all, but they are being told "No, you are not allowed that" and getting toxic survivor SWF after toxic survivor SWF harassing them in the post game chat, telling them they suck and that their very real problems don't exist on the forums- so of COURSE they are going to lash out in game.

I don't think we are at the tipping point yet, but if they keep going in this direction with the game, there is going to be a point where playing killer is going to be "You must be this skill level to be allowed to play".

Even then...a lot of it is becoming less about skill and more about blind luck and items/offerings....Which map you land on is the biggest one.

I'm a bad killer but every time I play I get r1-4s despite being r18-20. I just stopped playing killer because that was very common.

I see your point, but it's a bit silly that in the same post you say that by nerfing toolboxes you can alleviate the problem, but not fix it, while at the same time stating that changing window layout of certain maps is better than nothing.

Why do you have two very different opinions of the same concept? Especially considering that the big issue is how big maps are (but you are absolutely right, windows and pallets are a component as well), which remains basically unaffected by window relocation, while a toolbox nerf at least addresses the exact issue: gen speed.

P.S. I use Unity, not Unreal, but I'm fairly sure that things work similarly so what I would like to say is: refrain from saying things like "it takes 5 minutes to close a window", because it doesn't, not from a design point of view, not from a technical point of view. We as players can and should be vocal on what we want to see changed, but let's be humble and admit that we don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

I use source, unity, and unreal. Oh and creation engine. But dnf with that mess

Unity is the absolute worst for map design/work. Source is my favorite but unreal is the easiest.

Making maps in unreal takes no time once I've drawn them and designed them on paper. I've made the same level in all three engines once. Unreal was easiest/fastest to make. Source was least head scratching and unity took way too long.

Unreal map making is literally tile based drag and drop at the most basic level. This is great when using it at high level too. Need to fix a window? It takes minutes.

The issue comes down to their rng spawn system. Since none of us have that we can't comment on that.

We are not. We have mentioned multiple times that if something needs to change about gen times, we're happy to take a look into it. I think most people are upset about the language used in the developer notes.

I mean, you can throw proof all you want, but that post is hard to ignore. Literally every change was done for the enjoyment of survivors while not addressing any killer issues, and all of that was not done because of balance, just the enjoyment of survivor.

The simple fact is that doing all of that without even addressing any of the killer issues at all (and there is a LOT of them), many of which are worse than "Ruin hard for newbies, Doctor sucks for newbies". It is biased. It just is.

As a survivor main , yeah, that was messed up.

Like if you want to change stuff make it sound good for that side.

"We reworked doctor to fix some design issues that no one found fun and are trying to get him ready into a useable state"

That is neutral and it addressed that both sides hated him

Ruin i got no clue other then "testing a rework of ruin for after gen rushing has been worked on"

People still play it but it's just a cesspool of narcissistic players who use the steam workshop to gain an advantage by using changes like removing the boomer bile effect, brightening up SI models to be easier to spot, removing Smoker's... smoke effect, removing crops on the ground and leaves to see things hiding in the trees or through corn fields you normally can't see 5 feet in front of you, etc.

Then, if you make a mistake or two, you're very often just immediately vote kicked and everyone will almost automatically vote yes.

Or someone just goes in and sabotages the match either team killing, jumping off a building, or whatever, and then just leave, which then all votes to restart the chapter will fail if everyone else doesn't leave first, which will then of course cause them to leave, and prematurely end the match. Even if the other team is gracious enough to offer this, if the same thing happens to them, the other time usually won't extend the favor which of course -- causes people to leave, and prematurely end the match.

People will constantly team switch to a side to gain a numbers advantage, which causes the other team to leave and prematurely end the match.

People will leave if they do badly in a chapter, prematurely ending the match because it isn't going there way (think DCing as survivor in DBD cranked up to 11).

People have multiple accounts, and if they get kicked from a match, will actively switch accounts, go into the same game again, and actively sabotage it, even if they were kicked for a legitimate reason.

People on the losing sides as people load in from a chapter finishing will switch teams before people who are loading slower move in, sneaking their way onto the side with the most points and forcing someone from the winning team onto the losing team. Then if the winning team notices and tries to vote kick the person off, the person who switched will immediately begin to team kill to sabotage the team, and the opposing side will refuse to restart.

You'll also be kicked a lot of if you don't have a mic, despite there being multiple options to communicate in game, as well as official third party tools to be able to communicate without one VERY easily.

If you're female by the way -- don't ever talk in voice chat. For your own sanity.

Also be prepared to see a lot of NSFW gifs, most of which is literal porn plastered on the walls everywhere because apparently that's not a bannable offense from the official servers.

I should also not forget the people who think they're playing single player as the survivor and will attempt to speed run the map, more often than not get caught alone and die because... duh, and then just leave, crippling the team, or will begin to badmouth the rest of the team that they got caught. Rushing is a legitimate tactic if the entire team does it or at least agrees that they will rush that chapter, but that happens maybe 5% of the time and usually it's the player thinking they're so bad ass when they're not. Some literally don't even make it 15~20% through the map before dying because the infected team just mobs them quick.

Since 2015, I have not once had a single match go and make it to the very end, with at least some sort of shenanigan bullshit happening.

On modded or community ran servers, all of this happens much much less, but it still happens. Good community servers y'know, actually moderate some, so people who do bad things get banned, and usually stay banned. But on bad community servers (and there's a lot), moderators, it can be even worse than the official servers due to people having power to ban anyone they don't like on their team or even outright cheating. Hell, I got banned from one of these servers for swapping to the other team when it was a 4v1 and I made it a 3v2 and one of the corrupt moderators banned me for doing that because "swapping teams isn't allowed" despite the fact the moderator joined the 2 side and swapped to the 3 side and tried to play it off as they didn't and that I was arguing with them. So I got banned.

...So yeah, that's why L4D2 has the worst community ever. At least the worst I have ever seen. A community, that's not moderated at all and only cares to ban you if you cheat on VAC protected servers which... does nothing, a community where no matter what awful thing you do, there's no punishments for it except a 1 hour soft ban which usually happens if you didn't do anything wrong at all anyway other than existing at the wrong place at the wrong time,

TLDR; L4D2 community is terrible by not punishing cheaters, getting kicked from games no matter what you do, people intentionally sabotaging or throwing games, often corrupt community servers, a banning system which doesn't actually ban anyone, cheating which is used through Steamwork shop, literal porn gifs plastered everywhere in matches, most of the players are incredibly sexist, people who leave whenever they're on the losing side, plagued by half the community who think they're the best little ######### ever when they're not, and whine when they get killed, and full of people who will insult you with the nastiest comments at a moment's notice if you so much dare make a mistake despite the fact they may have made three themselves already.

    Holy #########. I'm glad I left

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Left 4 Dead 2 is way worse than this game.

At least everyone DCing, team killing, abusing exploits, telling other people to kill themselves, and all other sorts of colorful language, and constantly vote kicking people for any reason, does not happens every game on DBD. Hell, 95% of the people in L4D2 won't even let you play versus mode unless you have at least 2K hours or have all of the expert achievements done (many people just used SAM to get those achievements so I don't even know why it's a requirement).

Hell, I've seen some people literally DDOS THE THIRD PARTY SERVER A MATCH IS HAPPENING ON just so they don't lose.

Winning or losing literally does nothing other than "your team won/lost!" for 10 seconds after the rounds are over.
