I don't see how some people don't understand that there is no way to keep any horror game scary. For example, the first time I played the RE2 remake, Mr X was terrifying, he was something new to me and I had no idea how I could escape him. Now when I play RE2, he isn't scary at all, you can't keep something scary if the person who you're trying to scare can just get used to the thing that is trying to scare them.

Same reason people now find Freddy and Jason more.campy than scary.

They've seen their faces for so long it becomes normal for them.

In truth we are only afraid of things we don't know, that is why something like The Entity intrigues us in the lore because her presense is not as easily explained.

We know bits about her, but not the full story. While the killers on the other hand... Well we always get an infodump everytime a new one shows up.

  • I always see DS in almost all my matches.

    I don't care though, it's just 5 seconds.

  • If you want to make DBD a horror game, try this build:

    - Iron Will

    - No Mither

    - Spine Chill

    - Object of Obsession

    Except here's the catch:

You have to escape without going down. Ever.

You'll have to force yourself to use stealth because you cannot risk to go to a chase.

You have to rely on teammates to help do generators with you and keep the killer busy. But you have to make sure they can escape with you. No selfishness in play here.

And being the Object of Obsession, you will need to move your camera around carefully as to not possibly alert the killer to your presense.

  • NOED already has a counter, it's called cleansing bones. Everytime I see NOED pop up I always say it's my fault for not doing bones, not the killer's fault for bringing a powerful endgame perk.

Can we just get the Samination loading screens already!

    The Crapper

The Crapper can create brownies inside lockers, making them very enticing for Dwights. Eat every brownie in the map before finishing the generators to thank him.

  • You can trash his ritual if you don't want it. You can do it once everyday.

  • I prefer to face Spirit over Billy anyday of the week. Mainly because of the one-down. Getting caught in an unfavourable spot and it's hooks for me.

With a Spirit, I at least can run her around for longer and (unlike some people in this thread) I can predict her potential pathing more than Billy. Yes, Spirit is more predictable than Billy for me because of how obvious people who play her tend to be.

It's always satisfying when you correctly timed a pallet stun while she is phasing. Can't say the same with Billy who eats pallets like they're breakfast.

This is a new map with a new infinite loop

    https://youtu.be/_FyISjRH0lQ

They just changed god loops for infinite loop..

That is actually a bug and it isn't intended to be there.

Will be patched out when it goes live.

Show people it's a survive with friends group before we ready up the game. Give us the option if we want to go into a disadvantaged match.

That's the opposite of what this will do, that will make killers dodge even more or bring powerful add-ons or moris specifically because it's a SWF.

    LEGION

I have got legion recently and have loved playing him(he's really fun to me and idk why). Might main them. I'm a PS4 player of that matters. They are good if you put them in the right hands. Now my build is to let them suffer and I can take me precious time.

    THANATOPHOBIA

    This is self explanatory

    DYING LIGHT

Now this is a great perk for legion with giving someone the ability to heal faster. That encourages them to heal instead of gens, like the legion wants. Also getting a hook adds to the thana debuff, slowing everybody a little bit more

    Barbecue And Chilli

Gives info and of course, bloodpints. Can switch to Thrilling Tremors. The info is to get people off gens and also lines up with the next perk.

    POP GOES THE WEASEL

So with all the slow down somehow a survivor gets a gen almost done. You knock them off and regress 1/4 of the gen. 25% of a gen, gone instantly. The legion isn't the best with chases so when they finally downs a survivor (tbh not that long) You can make up for gen progress

    OVERALL

This build makes the game very gruesome. Sometimes they give up entirely and kill themselves, or DC. (Dc's happened now with the bans) Most of the time get all iri emblems and get max bloodpoints

    ADD-ONS

For the build would be the Fuming Mixtape...but one problem. As soon as you stab someone the Auras of gens disappear So BETTER ADDONS

Fuming Mixtape: Gens Auras change on how much the gen has been worked on

    BETTER ADDONS

just put both of the duration addons. that's it.

Oh jeez, i already don't like facing Legion and this build might actually make me think they are a bunch of evil teenagers.

  • There was a bug with Spirit's phase? I'm guessing it didn't affect PC players that much then because I was still able to grab survivors off of gens like normal.

However, I did notice there was a weird instance when I feel like I could still hear the terror radius while also hearing the vacuum cleaner that is her phase when playing as Survivor. So maybe it still hasn't been fixed?

  • Hex: Bloody Good Day

Injured Survivors will bleed more frequently, leaving a trail of red blood behind them. This effect is active for as long as the Hex totem stands. The effect lingers for 40/50/60 seconds after the totem is destroyed.

(Tracking blood is easier than tracking scratch marks, that's why this perk is better as a Hex perk because it could render stealth moot.)

    Take them, not me!

When you are injured, in a chase, and a healthy survivor is within a 32 meter radius from you, press the action button to inflict Exposed on the healthy survivor as well as notify the killer of their presense by showing the survivor's aura for 10 seconds. Grants you the Endurance effect for 5 seconds after activating. May only be used once for the whole match.

(Sacrificing your teammate to possibly get the killer off your tail, if that fails, activates an Endurance effect for only 5 seconds giving you just enough time to escape. Also quite possibly the Ultimate Sandbag perk if whoever runs it wants to be toxic rather than devious.)

well technically that means you adjust your playstyle based on who you are facing, which is not I think the idea of this game hence so much stuff is hidden already.

Play hard against everyone you see! (but not unfairly so obviously)

I guess that is true. I tend to be nicer when I'm going against just randoms, but I tend to be much more focused when facing someone I know.

  • Best killer to play are the top four.

Nurse, Billy (both free), Freddy and Spirit.

But most fun depends on what you find fun. I suggest looking up killer gameplay of each killer to see which you'd like best.

  • I'm on the fence about this.

On one hand, it would be great to make sure certain people aren't tunneled (such as Twitch streamers), and it would be great for killers to chill whether or not a group of people are SWF or not.

On the other hand... I just honestly like facing the same groups of people and knowing I faced them again in a match. I don't tunnel or bring a mori for them, I just like facing against the same player so I can test my skill against them again. Though I will admit I tend to play extra tryhard because I want to test my mettle against these folks. And usually we end with some nice chats in the endgame chat. Maybe my experience is an exception, but I do know a lot of people in Western Australia that tend to join my lobbies every once in a while. And I'd like to know they are there.

My buds run OoO while solo queue, (we can't play together because I play on ps4 and he on pc) and well he uses OoO just to practice how to loop and run tiles, maybe that is what is happening to you? People want to practice looping.

Hmm, I do know someone on PS4 who also does that. Maybe that is the case. Still, it is rather strange to find match after match of people using OoO all of the sudden

  • I've been facing a lot of OoO SWF teams as Killer (I don't mind) and facing a lot of tunneling Wraiths as Survivor.

Killers should stop convincing themselves survivors like to be insta downed out of no where 😂 you can like it all you want, but I've never been downed to NOED in end game and thought, "wow, that was a really nice way to end the match" 😂

Maybe that's your opinion then because I always think "Shoot, NOED. I should've done bones." and get a rush of adrenaline to look for either it, the escape or to hide.

I'm pretty sure EAC does detect macros. Even if it isnt great at detecting much else.

As someone who is not deluded and realizes the only way to get better is to be challenged, I sincerely thank you for keeping my sneak skills top notch, friend. I LOVE being tested against Spine Chill survivors! (And no, I don't do whatever that dumb moonwalking thing is to avoid it or whatever, that strategy always seemed dumb to me. If you're good at sneaking, you're good at sneaking and Spine Chill will test that.

As a GhostFace main with Pig on backup, Whispers is absolutely my fav. Really adds to the atmosphere and spookiness. :3

Honestly? Really glad to see someone reply to my comment wanting to see more survivors use Spine Chill. Always love it when I see someone else love being challenged in this game :)

  • @BigTimeGamer said:

Spine Chill or Object depending on how sweaty I feel

    Iron Will to “counter” Spirit

DS because there’s no penalty to tunnel off hook

Dead Hard because it’s the best, having control over when to gain distance on a loop is S tier

I feel like Spine Chill is enough to counter Spirit. Or any other killer that requries LOS with you.

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

Gonna get a lot of hate for this one, but honestly Self-Care. I like NOT going down in one hit, so I heal myself.

I'm in the same boat as Peanits, how it isn't just one perk for every killer. But much like Almo I love Surveillance. I've been using it since before the Ruin rework, and I've always found it better than Discordance for a majority of killers.

I think Self-Care wouldn't get as much hate if most people who run it use when someone isn't hooked. Because the iire of the person who is hooked, watching you healing yourself nearby and not coming to rescue you just continues to grow and grow as each hand of the Entity spawns in.

  • A while back I think the devs mentioned the longer the killer/survivor has to wait, the bigger the rank range for matchmaking becomes.

I'm pretty sure that is what happened here.

  • I don't think you can currently add friends from different platforms. You can play with them through Crossplay, but adding them ingame isn't just possible yet. Full Crossplay hasn't been rolled out yet.

  • Spine Chill.

    Spine Chill.

    Spine Chill.

Spine Chill has saved my bottom more times than I can count. It has helped me easily counter killers like Spirit, Nurse and Freddy and it has helped me make crucial decisions in game that usually eventually leads to my team winning the match.

  • I personally would rather be able to track the hatch easier than giving the map more charges.

Mainly because I have more than enough charges anyways for a quick glance at the auras.

  • @GoshJosh said:

Static Blast just needs to be removed altogether. Way too much benefit to the killer without any skill. Madness tier up and free detection of potentially all four survivors every 60 seconds or less. All he needed was the removal between treatment and punishment modes, which they did. Shock Therapy still overpowered as it is too.

Rather than remove something, why not just try to find a way to get away from it? If you know it has been roughly 60 seconds since the last time he used Static Blast, you should get the heck away from his TR.

  • @twistedmonkey said:

Becasue swf is considered the hardest match up anyone will have as killer so many would dodge them.

Much like why they removed seeing killer profiles on steam years ago. Survivors would dodge Nurses for example.

You could say the if players feel like they will lose they would rather not play the match.

I think that is the issue with Dead by Daylight. The fact that you can exit out of lobbies if you feel like they're a SWF squad or that the Killer is playing someone you find "Boring" or "Unfun" (< Genuinely dislike this argument.)

You should face whoever you are facing in a lobby, maybe have something similar to the disconnection ban but a lot less harsher and doesn't stack up so you cannot always dodge. But maybe that'll make the wait times much more longer.

I feel the same some times, but when you think about it, it's only a click more. That's why it makes me curious about it.

Usually it's when people stick around at the endgame chat, which happens more often than you would imagine

  • I just got off a game where a SWF pretty much wrecked me as The Hag in Blood Lodge.

I didn't whine about it, nor did I blame them. I just praised them for being better at the game than me.

Do I care if they have comms? No, because that just adds an extra bit of challenge for me as a killer. And it tells me that as a killer, especially someone like Hag, I need to get better at the game at fooling them as a whole group rather than one by one as individuals.

The only reason it's demoralizing for some people is because you feel absolutely helpless and you don't know what to do, they seem to be one step ahead of you. And they usually are, because they can tell their friends what you do if they see you. But, isn't that the point of a challenge? As the killer, what's the fun in stomping absolutely everyone in your way with no challenge whatsoever?

I didn't get mad during that game as Hag, I just sucked it up, told them GG and congratulated them.

I told myself I would eventually get better at Hag the same way I got better at Spirit. Both of those killers are fun for me and facing hardcore SWF groups really amps up the intensity of the match and pushes my mind into hyperdrive.

    But alas, I still lost.

(I still double hooked all of them though :P)

  • Doesn't Doc have a very obvious static buzz when he is powering up his Static Blast?

  • I've been hunting Bunnies the old fashioned way.

Guns may be effective against Bunnies, but only one killer is called The Huntress. And she'll sniff you out.

  • Every now and then, sometimes I just want to get to the next game immediately.

  • I have to go for Cannibal.

Mainly because BBQ, Knock Out and Franklin's Demise is just too good to not have. They all stall or makes tracking the survivors easier in some way

  • The killers I love the most to play as is Spirit and Hag.

Both require some prediction ahead of time of what the survivor will do and their possibly pathing. It's always fun to catch a survivor by surprise because they didn't expect to see you there.

  • @SpiritLover1133 said:

shame on people who promoted stealthy play style. The reason why people can’t loop even after spending hours on DBD is because they spent their whole time hiding from the killer and playing the game wrong . There is a massive difference between a player who spends 100 hour looping VS a player who spends 100 hours hiding in a bush.

There's a difference between playing stealthy and being a liability to your team.

You can be stealthy and still pop gens left and right.

    Shadow Walker (Spirit)

    • Mother Daughter Ring
    • Yakuyoke Amulet
    • Shadowborn
    • Stridor
    • Ruin
    • Surveillance
    • MDR/Amulet combo is overpowered and allows for INSANE map pressure and chase potential. Shadowborn/Stridor make it impossible to hide. Ruin/Surv works great with add-ons as you will constantly be pushing survivors off gens. I have 4k 4/5 gen every game I've played this build (including Rotten Fields and Ormond), it's absolutely 100% overpowered. Okay well, ONE game ever they got to gates, but it was because I basically let them by meme-ing with a Dwight. Still got a 3k and stopped them from opening the gates, could have 4k'd if I cared to slug to find the Kate but I didn't care at that point.

    Mother's Revenge (Spirit)

    • Mother Daughter Ring
    • Dirty Uwabaki
    • Thrill Of The Hunt
    • Haunted Grounds
    • Devour Hope
    • Retribution
    • Full totem build. I actually haven't run this one yet since Deathslinger came out (I was using Ruin instead of Retribution) but it is seriously hard to beat. You just have to commit to stopping totems until you get at least 3 stacks on Devour.

Poker Face (Spirit) *Pre-nerf Prayer Beads

    • Prayed Beads
    • Bloody Hair Brooch
    • Insidious
    • Make Your Choice
    • No One Escapes Death
    • Stridor
    • Face camp at any distance. Insidious procs on the husk, so combined with (old) Prayer Beads it mean you could stand still and survivors have 0 idea what you are doing. The plan would be to hook someone, move 32m away, turn around and wait. When you see someone run up start to phase, MYC procs, and you hit them almost right after they make the save (tricky because MYC procs on you not the husk). I was only able to play this a few times before PB nerf, but it was HELLA scary. Stridor and NOED are just there as insurance, not necessary to the build really.

    Dream Catcher (old Freddy)

    • Class Photo
    • Z Block
    • Dying Light (old)
    • Ruin (old)
    • Haunted Ground
    • Play With Your Food
    • Ivory/Ebony Mori
    • This build required a mori to proc Dying Light ASAP. The plan goes like this... Use Class Photo to find the obsession quickly. NO YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE BLACK BOX. BB gives away what you are doing and survivors will rush gens and hide all game. Class Photo is better and has more value throughout the game, it is IMPOSSIBLE to hide from you. Z Block is there to make you look like a normal Freddy (because if it takes 9 seconds to fall asleep they will know you have Class Photo and hide in lockers). Ruin buys you time to catch the obsession. Haunted and PWYF help you catch the obsession faster. Haunted also adds protection to Ruin. Once you get a hook on the obsession, it's GG. Because of Class Photo, the other 3 survivors should always be asleep, and with old Dying Light active it will take 210.5 seconds to do a gen solo with no buffs (3 and a half minutes). Once you kill the obsession, there is no more doing gens, or healing. You have infinite time.

    Class Reunion (old Freddy)

    • Class Photo
    • Black Box
    • Brutal Strength
    • No One Escapes Death
    • Rancor
    • Remember Me (old)
    • Shroud Of Seperation
    • Full endgame build. Literally just chase the obsession all game. Let them DS you to get more stacks. Drop reset to get more stacks. Use Brutal to waste every pallet on the map. You want to chase the obsession until every gen is done. Shroud is there to spook them into gen rushing. Once the last gen pops, Rancor the obsession. If they have Adren even better, put them to sleep to see where the others are going. Once the obsession is dead, the game is over. They will most likely not get the gates (old Remember Me added 30 seconds) so no need for Blood Warden. Class Photo will help you find them all. Slug for an easy 4k, with 1 hook on everyone.

Forever Freddy By Calvin Klein (new Freddy)

    • Swing Chains
    • Jump Rope
    • Dying Light
    • Ruin
    • Sloppy Butcher
    • Thanatophobia
    • Everything takes forever. Things are not as slow as Dream Catcher, but it's still pretty damn slow. Just remember to spread damage, keeping them injured and asleep.

    Open Season (Huntress)

    • Iridescent Head
    • Infantry Belt
    • Deerstalker
    • Infectious Fright
    • Knockout
    • Nurse's Calling
    • Cypress Mori
    • Slug rush build. Iri Head is broken AF, and all you are doing it hitting them down and moving onto the next. Let them all bleed out, and mori the last one. Easy 4k depip. I've only done this build once and it's disgustingly OP.

    Joker (Ghostface)

    • Drop-Leg Knife Sheath
    • Leather Knife Sheath
    • Beast Of Prey
    • Dark Devotion
    • Insidious
    • Tinkerer
    • "Why can't I break his stalk?" build. Extra meme-y but also pretty evil because of how confusing it is.

Aside from a couple builds listed, this is what I'm talking about. Pure deviousness and eviiiil

I like how you added some Old stuff as well. Wish I could try them out when Old Freddy is still around. I never got to try him out myself, and I wish I could've.

  • @ZoneDymo said:

anything that suprises survivors would fit this category really.

Devour Hope and NoeD and Blood Warden are pretty much the only perks that I would say fit that.

True, but that is rather tame for an evil build. DH, NOED and Blood Warden is one that some survivors even expect put into a combo now if I am to be honest. Since a lot of killers started doing Endgame builds more often with Blood Warden specifically.

  • Tl;dr: Watching & doing are best. Does anyone have suggestions to improve looping and staying alive longer in solo queue matches for someone who can't seem to learn?

My suggestion for looping is to hug the walls and remember to look in front of you. Bumping into objects can be a death sentence for killers that has range like Huntress and Deathslinger of killers that has one-downs like Billy or Leatherface. Also remember to spam the spacebar when the killer is closing in and you almost reached the pallet. Sometimes you'll get a pseudo-vacuum that sucks you to the other side of the pallet and not get hit.

As for staying alive in solo queue, I suggest when you're just starting out to bring perks like Decisive Strike and Borrowed Time as @Steel_Eyed suggested. They are powerful and in the meta for a reason. They allow you to get back on your feet if you happen to find yourself in an unfavourable situation as a survivor, though I don't recommend holding onto both for very long. They can force you to develop some really nasty habits.

For example, when I started playing Survivor more often, I would most often play as Laurie because she had Decisive Strike. I would get into horrible habits of going for suicide hook dives with DS and Borrowed Time to try and save a teammate that is hooked while I stunned the killer. I don't need to tell you how bad this is. There is a significantly high chance you would end up back on the hook even after proccing DS especially if you are injured. And you would start doing this often even when you had neither of those perks equipped.

Breaking away from this habit was rather hard, but I managed to do it and I will say in recent weeks it has been the best days of my life playing as a Survivor. It still feels challenging but it doesn't feel hopeless. Heck, I look forward to Spirit and Freddy mains because they tend to bring me the most fun games I've ever played.

Running a Spirit for 3 gens is always going to be a satisfying personal victory for me.

    381210_20200419151936_1 - Copy.png

Another tip for staying alive in Solo Queue is to genuinely be stealthy, but you don't have to make your build surrounded by it. All it takes it some map awareness and the Alert perk. Whenever the killer breaks a pallet or generator, you will be notified of their aura from either nearby or far across the map and you will be able to know when it's safe to work on a generator or when it's possibly better to move and hide.

Above all else, just keep playing and watching some Youtube compilations. Even if you aren't studying it intentively, you will be able to catch some tricks and techniques and subconsciously add them to your own gameplay and little by little, get better at the game as a result of it.

I hope you the best of luck! Solo Survivor is no joke. And I appreciate you coming in here and ask for advice rather than make boogeyman to protect their pride like some people I know. You'll probably get far in this game the more you try. Good luck, and I hope to see you in the Fog someday.

Monitor & Abuse: Increased TR in chase(veeeery important)

Haunted Ground: It's one of Doctor's best perks

    Ruin: See Haunted Ground

    ADDONS

    1. Purple Calm
    2. Purple Order

    Calm: BIG DICK TR

Order: Pallets are neat, but its for the cooldown reduction

    WHAT IT DOES

You play as normal until you're in a chase that isnt by the edge of the map, from that point onward, use Blast and nuke the ######### map. Then continue the chase, down, hook, Blast is back up, repeat. While in chase you pretty much cover at least half of every map with a single Blast.

That sounds like Worldwide Doc to an absurdly evil scale!

I should try that out whenever I finish prestiging Doctor next. ^^

Payday 2 has more viable off meta stuff

you can go max armor and LMG and get by or go full shotgun dodge Crit and never go down

DBD doesn’t have as much flexibility as many perks are flat out objectively useless or require a great deal of effort to activate

That is true, there are some perks you no longer need if you've played the game enough like Deja Vu.

  • @BigTimeGamer said:

if only the content release cycle wasn’t 3 months

you shouldn’t have to wait months for simple perk or balance tweaks, it’s why the meta has gotten so stale

Didn't the same thing happened with PAYDAY 2 but on a more large scale?

I remember people always bringing the Thanatos Sniper Rifle and Brothers Grimm Akimbo Shotguns because they are objectively the best guns in the game and changing away from it makes Death Sentence impossible

    Thing is, theyre just cosmetics.

Listen, as far as Bandaid fixes go, its kept the game together so far. Some of those fixes have been replaced by actual changes.

As far as chase themes go? I would rather be allowed to edit my music file for DBD to use the chase music I want.

The thing about that is that you can just edit in complete silence so you have absolute hearing of everything around you, making it much harder for survivors to stealth you.

  • @Wiliam_Bill_Overbeck said:

That'd still hurt my index finger, I've tested that before, I'd rather just have a mechanic that doesn't involve pain or I'm going to become a heavy advocate to creating a guide for new players on how to make macros just to fight back this stupid design

I know, I'm not a fan of it. I don't think anyone is. I'd rather just hold down the button.

  • For now I suggest changing the struggle key with Mouse Down so you can just scroll down effortlessly without dying.

  • I will just say, not that I defend this system as a whole.

But I'd rather keep it as it is right now so I can meet up with previous survivors as either Survivor or Killer, not to be mean, but to be nicer to them. I have met some friends in Western Australia that I only met up with because we kept being matched in the same lobbies here so it would really honestly suck to not be able to tell who is who.

But hey, my experience is an exception, not a norm.

  • Honestly? Wholeheartedly agree to this. It could also be set to whatever killer you main so you get to see your killer maiming survivors as you ready up for another day of DBD
