Who gives a ######### about modeling?

You already have the resources in the game. You're telling me they can't replace those long ass fences with existing shorter ones and make the map smaller?

You missed the fact that I said its licensed.

Even if it takes 20 seconds, if the creators aren't happy it won't go through.

They take feedback huh? Whens the Haddonfield rework then?

I mean there's plenty of ######### feedback on that one map alone.

I don't know if you've taken any 3D modelling classes, but 3D modelling as well as map design, especially in a game like Dead by Daylight where they try to create an inherent horror atmosphere is difficult.

The rework for Lery's completely overhauled the whole map, even if you have a master employee working on the maps it will still take them time to create the new assets and build them in a way that doesn't allow players to randomly glitch through the world or exploit the weird geometry of some shapes.

Not to mention the random element of it of different tile blocks, making sure all of them fit together despite being a randomly generated map.

Haddonfield does need a rework, but that map has two floors in every building as well as a constant barrier that separates every house. Its easy to just say "rework Haddonfield" without thinking what needs to be done to actuallt rework the darn map.

Not only that but Haddonfield is a licensed map, they also have to get the okay from the rights holders that the reworked map is an accurate depiction of Haddonfield. Which takes even more time.

So yes, the devs know you want Haddonfield reworked. But it takes ages to rework something like this, especially since its licensed.

  • I think the reason killer just feels more stressful ignoring every factor in this game is because you are all alone. Killing everyone.

The survivors can run like rats and it would still feel stressful because you need to keep track of all 4 survivors at all times and sometimes predict where they might be alongside doing your objectives.

With Survivor, you have 3 other people to take the load off of you. Which makes it much more relaxing just because you have teammates.

  • They shout because they know the devs will refuse to listen. Not the other way around.

Devs *do* take feedback from their players, but only if you present it in a way that is respectable and actually reasonable. As well as accepting that your idea is subject to constant criticism.

This is a forum after all, not an echo chamber.

They don't have to listen to me.

They just have to listen to players who know how to play the ######### game.

And people who know how to play the game doesn't need to resort to shouting at the other side to make their arguments heard.

Finally, it took a taunt to get you to give me a proper response.

But i am sorry to tell you that many of the changes you mentioned were required

    • Oni was way too good at slugging
    • Freddy nerf was in a time when the game was utterly survivor sided and the devs didnt really understand what the ######### to do with their game, things are better now
    • Plague... well, the slowdown really affected her gameplay but the nerf to the tablets were necessary.
    • McCote is not in charge of balancing the game, take his comments with a grain of salt, i dont think he takes his game really seriously
    • Yeah, ghostface was terrible on release, but... You said the devs didnt take into account the opinion of their players when balancing their game, why bring up ghostface now?

I have had my disagreements with many of the devs decisions in the past, MoM was just a cheap cash grab, the legion nerf was far too brutal on them, DS taking way too long to get changed and then still getting buffed. I just disagree with the dev hate boner many people have had on them recently, its ridiculous, it seems like you people are shitting on the just because.

Yeah exactly, and do you guys really think the devs will listen to a group of people who constantly throw crud on them whenever possible?

I really doubt anyone would listen to suggestions from someone who claim the devs don't care about them and maintain that stance while remaining hostile to anyone who tries to challenge it.

  • No one's gonna try to change what is fact.

  • Doing fine. Uni kinda keeping me from playing DBD a lot nowadays ^^;

  • The Clown makes me cry :(

His overpowered power is making me pity how weak he is.

  • Oh Killer, definitely. They need help with a lot of things. I may think certain aspects of Survivor has no problems, but that doesn't mean the game is in a balanced state.

  • I was gonna vote Otz, but Demi's content is just way too funny.

Otz is for when I want to relax and chill while learning more about DBD with his chill voice.

Demi is when I want to laugh at the shenanigans DBD offers.

I'm not saying you cant, as I argue people who complain about spirits 50/50 as it's her mindgame, but it would cause a lot of issues with people, arguably more so than the ruin change. People (survivor mains, and I say mains meaning not those who play both) would be PISSED.

Oh definitely, there will be people who are pissed at this change. I personally wouldn't care either way because I'm used to killers like Spirit and Ghostface who can hide their TR or self, and I do main Spirit so I have a better understanding of what Spirit players generally play like.

But the people who don't play like me will most likely end up quitting the game entirely. And it would be very very painful for new players.

  • @Carpemortum said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1117381#Comment_1117381

It would piss off more people. Literally threads the day it happened would be:

"Add back red stain, chases are BS"

"Why cant I mindgame as survivor anymore?"

"No red stain during chases? How am I supposed to not die immediately when I have no idea where they are"

So on and so forth. New players would stand zero chance, and older players who have actually gotten good at the game, would be in more 50/50 guesses than versing spirit.

I still think you can still outwit a killer without the red stain, you just need to counter them the same way you counter Spirit. Imagine a route they will go, and avoid that route or actively dodge it while running yourself.

  • The red stain is kinda instrumental is doing a lot of mindgames as a killer. It can seem like that killers would be better off without the red stain, but it will only just be a matter of time until that is irrelevant.

  • Actually seems to be a group of the killer's worst nightmare.

    Meg - Sprint Burst, Adrenaline

Jake - Saboteur (After this patch, might be nerfed.), Calm Spirit

    David - Dead Hard

    Bill - Borrowed Time, Unbreakable

    Dwight - Prove Thyself

If only Laurie was in that lobby too.

  • That is within the matchmaking's 8 rank range.

You will be matched either 8 rank above or below you until the new MMR matchmaking system is put in place.

  • Survivor can still be fun, though it's more fun when you don't run any meta perks really. I try not to use any kind of exhaustion perk because my ideal situation in a game is popping gens, helping my teammates and NOT be at the other end of the killer's stick.

  • Yes, you can. Like Loomis, I found this out the hard way.

The Wraith was waiting for me to run for the Hatch, and then proceeded to close it when I was inches away.

Safe to say I didn't jump in.

If you’re getting hit with DS 3 times per game on a frequent basis you need to look at how you’re playing. Very likely you don’t realize how hard you’re tunneling.

Slugging is boring. When you have 2-3 people on the ground, and can't touch any of them because of DS, its no fun. I'd rather just mori them and move on.

EDIT: Slugging doesn't do anything after gates are open, anyway.

You could fix this in 2 steps. When a survivor with DS is unhooked, all other instances of DS are deactivated. And, when the gates are opened, DS cannot be proc'd. They didn't want PIG to get free kills with RBT, so survivors shouldn't get free escapes with DS

    They did answer that.

  • Everytime I see someone making a post like this, without explaining why something is a problem, makes me wonder if I should dedicate less time playing Survivor.

  • @Savitar0426 said:

Don't act like survivors aren't the same. Just like how a good amount of killers believe they are entitled to a 4K, a good amount of survivors believe they are entitled to escape every game.

Both sides can be equally terrible, but the forum just has a larger quantity of killer mains. (Probably because they have more to complain about)

  • Probably not. Because killrates are unreliable. They aren't the best measures for balance (and yes people who follow what I post, I know I said I defended BHVR because they have statistics we don't have, but..), but they do give the devs a good general idea on what to do on account of other factors.

If a lot of people complain about a certain perk or killer, they'll see if the statistics match, look for more information themselves, and decide on balance changes from there.

  • Ouch, they kinda had that coming though bringing two Purple Flashlights into the game.

  • Well.. Considering the killer can still find them and kill them.. Technically no? But if the survivors make it extremely difficult for the killer to find them, maybe possibly yes?

It depends on how flexible the rule against holding the game hostage is.

  • Okay..

Even if I were a dev and I wanted to read all of that... That is 323 pages of posts that are almost as old as DBD itself.

  • I'm pretty sure this thread has reached over 1000+ posts on Steam. Will it have the same thing happen here?

    I doubt it.

You obviously did not get what I meant.

Well, I'll let the joke try to land on your head first.

  • Haven't you heard? Dwight's feet are made of leather.

  • Sorry but...

So if you stand near the hook you will be flashed until you run away from it.

Is a very VERY poor choice of words.

  • @YaBoiTanis said:

I think It's a good idea but it has to be an old killer like jack the ripper or the black widow. Also before anyone says anything, other game companies have added historical serial killers to their games. Most popular, Jack the ripper. The man is in Identity V for goodness sake and that's a kid friendly version of DBD!

Jack the Ripper is also more famously described in Fiction. I'm pretty sure most people don't even know of the actual Jack the Ripper. So it's easier for them to digest "oh it's that british murdery fellow from that thing I read" rather than "Oh it's that actual serial killer who did actual bad things."

He is more known as a character in fiction, which is basicalllywhat I'm trying to say.

  • Object of Obsession

Really, no competition. In an SWF it can be absurdly powerful, especially if their intentions is not to play the game normally and just bully the killer. I don't find it as annoying as most other people, but I do know that my brother (who mains Freddy ever since he was released) absolutely despises it. And I can guess why.

This perk can completely hard counter 3 killers that I can think off the top of my head:

    • Freddy

Because if he catches the Obsession in a dream at any moment, the Obsession will be able to see him no matter how close Freddy is to them. And that poses a huge balance problem no matter who uses it. Because that basically means as a killer, you literally have nothing you can do to beat the loop no matter how good you are.

No mindgames, no way of faking out swings, nothing. And that isn't really fun is it?

    • Trapper & Hag

Both of these killers get hard countered because their powers requires them to spend time to setup traps at the beginning of the round at spots and locations where the survivors least expect it.

With Object of Obsession you can just basically... Remove their ability to do any surprises. If you see the Trapper or the Hag placing a lot of traps in one particular area, you know not to ever go to that area. And bam, power wasted.

    This perk is really problematic.

    Sloppy Butcher

It's easy, it's effective, it forces survivors to either have someone else heal them or stay injured the whole match.

Believe it or not it took me a while to think of a killer perk I dislike, have problems with or hate going against because I'm actually genuinely fine with every killer perk in the game. I think most of them are balanced.

Buuuuuuuut, everytime I play as a survivor, I always hate seeing Sloppy Butcher pop up. Because I either have to wait longer to be healed, or stay injured the whole match. Which isn't ideal because I would prefer not to be the one being chased if possible.

I don't know what platform or region you are playing on that gives you the impression that most SWF are casual. But where I play, most SWF are tryhard as hell, or atleadt try to win to some degree. Meme-squads are the uttermost esception, while meta-perk squad who do generators right infront of your face are the norm.

Oceanic regions, prior to that, Southeast Asian regions, I've never really seen any SWFs that are hardcore or tryhard multiple times in a row. Which I'll admit, might skew my bias a bit. I will say though that I've heard a lot of my US/EU friends say that SWFs are the bane of this game. Though I still really doubt it's as bad as people make it out to be.

And yet you didn't answer my question about what balance is actually being done. You claim that it is being done, but I see no signs of it. How is the design evolving? Have killers received buffs to deal with this extra level of communication? Has swf groups been nerfed in some way? What has been done to rebalance the game around swf groups? The only change I have seen is making it even easier for coordinated swf groups to sabotage hooks and mess with the killers even more.

What I mean are recent the patches the players are getting, new features like Breakable Walls, which whilst they are still just on one map, Peanits has mentioned that they will be on every map as soon as they possibly can.

I say it's evolving because it's shifted heavily from how the game originally played, where it was more of a hide and seek and try not to get caught by the killer kind of game. SWF groups don't need to be nerfed, like at all, you're essentially just punishing people who play with friends casually at that point.

And it's the PTB, it will be changed if the developers think that it may have made it more frustrating to play against. They may get it right, they may get it wrong. Who knows? We only have to wait and see. This thread however is less about balance and more about why SWFs are not as big of an issue as everyone makes it out to be.

It's a small issue that is preventing you from seeing the larger, less polarizing issues. Which is balancing around the idea of a statistic, or a group. Rather than a clear pre-defined win condition. I say the devs are balancing around SWF because I believe that's what they think they are doing. However, I disagree that is what they should be doing. I'd rather they balance around what clearly defines as a "win" on both sides. Which, according to Almo, they don't because they believe the game has no pre-defined win condition.

  • @illusion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1115377#Comment_1115377

How so? What balance has been, or is being put into place to balance it around swf's? Until we start seeing something concrete, it is meaningless. Besides, if they are now balancing the game around swf's, then swf's ARE a problem, which goes against the whole point of this thread.

No, the fact that they are balancing around SWFs proves that people are coming to play this game with other people. And most of them will be on comms. That is something the devs can't change and probably won't ever change. SWF is not a problem, but it does change the original intended design of the game.

That does that mean SWF is a problem, it simply means the design of the game is evolving. Going from a more hide and seek approach to a more chase heavy approach.

  • @YaiPa said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1115332#Comment_1115332

they won't add them in every map. Once a map comes to be reworked, then they'll add breakable walls.

the same logic can be applied to balancing in general: huntress is fine as killer, there are at least 3 killer before her that need to be looked at, this means at least 1 full year, fine, after 1 year iri heads will be nerfed, but until then you're gonna face it.

    let's wait.

I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the devs are trying to add breakable walls into every map as soon as they possibly can, as in prior to reworking them. I may be mistaken though.

  • @illusion said:

That is a lot of text to not say anything new, or valid. The game was designed around survivors not being able to communicate. That is why there is no in-game communication. It was there so that they couldn't coordinate. SWF bypasses the games design and unbalances it. Even if people don't play optimally, you get information that you wouldn't otherwise have. It also means that you don't need the perks that provide that information, so you essentially get to play with extra perks. The killers are at a disadvantage even against less optimized groups.

The idea that swf brings more people into the game so there will be lower wait times, is flawed logic. There are already far too few killers. Adding more swf players will increase queue times. Even if the bring a friend who wants to play killer, he will play with his survivor friends and not do anything to increase wait times.

That is why, the game is now being designed to be balanced around SWF.

What the game originally designed was is a hide and seek where you can't communicate with the other survivors. Now it's more about the chase and it's being balanced around that with the assumption that survivors also get information from others.

  • @snozer said:

SWF is fine if they balance for it.

They need to give all aura reading perks to survivors baseline, and highlight with a nice bright pink glow all totems and traps that are visually seen or touched by a survivor to everyone else.

We need to add a HE IS CHASING ME! mechanic with a map wide bright red survivor that all but the killer can see, that instantly turns yellow when chase is dropped.

Do this so solo survivors are almost up there with the information swf have and then we can balance killers around it.

I did say give Solos information, but not that much. That's just highlighting everything that even SWFs won't take notice.

  • Sorry.. What? PC already has Daily Rewards, in the form of Daily Rituals, which is more akin to Daily Missions.

  • @NullEXE said:

You say that, but then in most of my games it's literally a toxic 4 man swf that is getting away with sabotaging all the hooks in a game (while still being able to do gens), bodyblocking, coordinating all of the information that game to the point that any killer with traps, or snares becomes unusable. They are running 1 or two OoO. Each with their own role or class. I've seen them with clan tags, i've seen them streaming on twitch, YouTube, and Mixer. Then in end game chat flame you for whatever reason they feel like, and get away with it. I have even come to the point where I doubt anyone is actually reading support tickets, because getting told to get cancer, told to kill myself, and various atrocities about my mother by the same people each and every day (because who else will you get match with at rank 1 on a killer you primarily play regularly) - clearly they don't get punished for it.

So yeah. Just because your one group of friends isn't apart of the issue. The issue is still there and it's the biggest problem DBD has, because the dev's choose to ignore it, and is taking so long to fix it (which we doubt they ever will). It's honestly so bad to the point where I have doubts you're even not apart of the problem and this thread you made is just to try and justify actions you and friends do to bully killers as a SWF, because threads like that have start to pop up lately - which I don't know why anyone would be scared that the dev's will do anything about SWF.

You can't just ask survivors "Are you SWF" most say no, we even know in the team I play with just to say "no". It would be stupid not to. In addition to the whole aspect of SWF being so toxic, so is the fact that you get to remain hidden to the fact you are playing SWF, so statistics of people playing SWF melds with those who are just good at the game while you gain an unfair competitive advantage in a game that really isn't meant to be competitive.

Also the smart people are not asking to "remove SWF" we are asking for the game to balanced around it, and if people are scarred that's gonna "ruin the solo experience" then add a voicechat feature to the game for solo, you don't have to use it, but then it's on you for not using the tools available to you in the game. There even has been great suggestions of a Voice Proximity, which could be very fun.

I don't disagree that some people do have it worse than others, I've seen people like those myself watching other people play the game. Maybe it's because I live in Australia that I don't get comments like these often, but the worst I've got is just them commenting on how I'm a terrible killer (despite 4king them). Maybe it's region dependent, because I always hear that people in the US and Europe tend to have it worst when it comes to endgame chat abuse. Although who knows?

I'm not trying to justify SWFs that are genuinely out there to bully the killer, but I am seeing people becoming hostile at people just mentioning the fact that people play in an SWF. And that isn't really okay. Some people, like myself and several others, just want to play the game with others and not worry about what the outcome of the game is. I think the reason threads like this are popping up is because, as I said before, there is an inherent hostility to people who often play this game mainly because they can play with friends.

And true, I didn't really think of that too far. But I guarantee most survivors won't use meta perks or use every meta perk in the game to try and make your life as a killer miserable. So my point on that still stands.

I literally saw a thread just today about how people want to see SWFs getting handicapped and replies to it that are in favour of that happening are getting upvotes. I would love for the gap between SWF and Solos to be closed, that is ultimately what most people who play Solo and people who play Killer want. So we can start balancing around that as a baseline. But blaming others for playing the game with others, and just playing with others, with no evidence they play to bullly the killer or anything like that. Is not the way we should be going.

  • Yes, I've seen that thread. I would love to see it, but as of right now splitting the playerbase to Ranked and Casual is just not gonna cut it. Mainly because everyone, even those who claim to play the game competitively, will just play Casual and we'll still have the same experience we have now.

I ain't got the patience to wait another 4 years for the devs to fix what should have been obvious 3 years ago.

Admittedly their methods aren't perfect, but what is really?

And I'm pretty sure we'll hear more about the breakable walls during the mid-chapter patch.

  • As of right now, but they are planning on doing that on other maps as soon as they possibly can.

  • @IronKnight55 said:

NOED needs changed. I don't know what those changes should be, though. It pretty much gives the killer a free kill for doing absolutely nothing. The killer could stand in the corner all game and still get NOED. It needs some changes.

That is using NOED for bad play, but that doesn't necessarily means that NOED is used specifically for that.

One of the most dangerous Hag builds, the one shot Hag has NOED as an "insurance" perk if survivors manages to get all the gens done.

  • I think people assume NOED rewards bad play because defending gens is sort of a side objective for the killer. The more gens there are, the more time you have as a killer. And when playing killer it's less about the hunt, and more about racing the clock.

So NOED is seen as "rewarding bad play" because you are given a huge boost of power when you are supposed to be "losing".

That's just my guess on it.

  • No, I'm not saying you should get Small Game. But I am going to tell you this is why the Trapper can be a strong and punishing killer to go up against. His traps requires you to completely pay attention to your surroundings, otherwise... SNAP!

If you got caught by the trap, sucks to be you, but that is the Trapper's traps working as intended.
