The reason survivors have such perks is because at the base game killers are far stronger. All a survivor has are pallets and maybe a flashlight but those are almost useless now (at least for saving teammates). One or two helpful perks aren't much of a problem, but realize that as the game goes on and more stuff gets added, people will choose to combine the strongest perks, sometimes with items as well, which makes it very difficult to beat them. Killers have perks, items, and Moris to help them as well, and those who use the good combinations the best end up in the higher ranks, so they face each other.
This may not always be the case, and sometimes you may end up in a rank with other powerful people when you aren't running the best perks, items, or have the most experience, and it might show in the results. Part of the draw of a game like this, or indeed any type of online multiplayer game, is that you never know what's going to happen, or how the match is going to go. All you can hope for is a decent match where people try their best and have a good time, win or lose. =)
*It's worth noting that things are constantly being changed, tweaked, and balanced, so that things remain more or less level and everyone has a fair chance. Who knows what changes will happen in the future?
-
Yeah it's bad, and I'm sorry you have to deal with it. I do too, it really sucks when people go out of their way to insult you for pathetic reasons. Didn't get kills, or got just one guy all game? They'll laugh and spam insults, usually with "stop playing," "uninstall," or usually "#########" along with some variation or censored to try and avoid a report. It's disgusting.
Sometimes even other survivors will message, frustrated that they lost and you survived (or may have potentially caused a loss because you didn't perform as well as they wanted. That's what happens in online games. Unless you play with a full party of friends, don't waste your energy on negativity. Just take it as a learning experience and try better next time.
It was a huge problem in F13 when there was cross-faction voice chat by default. I hated it. The game spawns you as Jason even if you don't want it to, and all you get are heinous insults when you approach even when you haven't killed anyone yet. Why do I have to listen to this? Why do people have to be like this? We're just playing a game, for fun, and you aren't even losing. Or maybe you are, but that's what makes the game fun, trying to win and not knowing the outcome. Well anyway, just try to ignore it and behave better than they do.

The Legion Quartet were more hooligans than anything else. All they wanted was to escape their little town. One guy died by accident (sorta) so now they became killers in the Entity's Realm. Perhaps the Entity saw that they could be used, and took them.
-
They get lost in the fog of the Entity's Realm, and wind up back at the campfire. Sometimes, they wake up there instead, like if they get sacrificed.
-
Yeah, there's actually a couple of reasons the survivors are silent. First of all, they know that any noise will attract the demons of the realm, so they avoid making sound as much as possible. I believe it's also been stated that (reasoning why there's no voice chat and such) that the Entity is in control of the realm, and whatever it allows or does not allow is sort of how things are. You're there for food, and it survives off of your fear, terror, and whatever else it can gain. It likely limits the survivors' ability to speak so they have a harder time escaping and thus making it go hungry.
-
Despite some flaws here and there (such as lost connections/etc) I'm pretty sure The Entity has a near-absolute control over everything, or at least a pretty strong grip. It can prevent killers from leaving, punish those who don't feed it, keeps survivors perpetually, is able to bring new beings in all the time, can control the very layout of reality, and many more direct or indirect influences on the realm.
Even if the killers can 'struggle' against their fate, they're still stuck in with the survivors, one way or the other. Although, it's said that it works on the killers for eons before some of them are willing to kill for it, so maybe it just takes a long time to gain that control. Perhaps it can be broken?
-
The Plague can make survivors Broken in record time, putting them at one-hit-downs. She can also vomit a hooked person to make the savior sick as well, which is unfair that the hooked victim remains sick afterward (no way to avoid). This in turn feeds her ranged damage, and it's difficult to avoid. She's pretty strong but you have to keep the pressure on them for either healing, cleansing, or unhooking, to keep them off of the generators.
*Oh I'm not saying the Plague is OP or anything, just that all of these things work together to slow the game down.
-
BT only triggers within a killer's TR. It's to protect the victim. It does not protect the person using it. I don't see many people use it anymore either. It helps against tunneling and saving someone else at the expense of yourself.
-
I haven't read all the comments here, but the problem with looping pallets is that they were meant to block or stun the killer momentarily and then you move to the next one. Once survivors found out they could stall by running in circles, that became the most viable strategy, as wasting the killer's time so teammates could work gens was even more helpful than using pallets to actually lose the killer (thus letting them find someone else and stop progress).
The issue remains that there's really no way to 'remove' the ability to loop without taking away pallets, changing Bloodlust, altering movement speed... they don't know what to do, so for now it stays like it is. No one has fun running in circles, even if you are evading the killer, and imagine how frustrating it is for them, time and time again, each time they chase a new survivor. I'm certainly not trying to take away any defenses against killers, but some sort of change to reduce the repetition in running around a single obstacle might be for the benefit of everyone.
-
A basement-camping killer who had trapped all possible entrances was upset you didn't try to rescue? Some people...
-
^ HybridPanda did that. He called it "Fruit Ninja Spirit" It was pretty funny.
-
A game like this always needs to be balanced and tweaked so things work the way they should. You can't have an enduring online multiplayer experience without adjustments or changes.
-
A Perkless mode, then.

Um, no. Killers who tunnel a survivor down from the start are the reason for the perk. Seriously, it kills me how few get that this is a casual game that relies on both sides playing solidly in order to maximize the experience. Think about all the changes they have put in.
1. PIP system changes. It relies on a killer who spreads the damage out. Survivors are not likely to pip if the killer camps or focuses on 1 survivor. Does not matter if you do all 5 gens and open the gate and escape. Zero pip at best. Survivors need a killer who will engage them all and pressure the map in order to pip. Killers need survivors who can last a little bit in a chase, and who will rescue other survivors from hooks. If every survivor drops after 10 seconds of chase and dies on the first hook, the killer is not going to pip.
Both sides need to be solid and of comparable skill in order to maximize the points.
2. Legion changes. It is clear they intended for Legion to pressure the map and spread out DW, keeping survivors off gens and healing/mending. Original des8failed spectacularly due to a lack of foresight into how good at tunneling Legion is. Lazy killer's dream.
I can go on, but in the interest in brevity, I'll save you from reading a novel here. Tunneling is useful at times. I refuse to use it early in game, but if the game is hitting the ten minute mark and it can swing either way, I might take out that survivor that was seriously hard to catch who just got off his 2nd hook and is running in my direction. With him gone, I might secure this match. At that point, I'm confident all the players have had some fun, and I know I've engaged them all by now because that is my playstyle, I pressure the field and capitalize on mistakes. I run Trapper because he is fun to set the field with.
Tunneling as a full strategy...no thanks. Fish in a barrel is more difficult to kill than using that strategy.
Yes! This so much, both sides playing 'fair' in order for all to have a good time, even if you lose. I went against Meyers with Scratched Mirror in the hospital, and it was one of the most tense matches ever! He didn't camp, or tunnel, and I died but I still had a blast. It's not a professional-style game, it's meant for fun, thrilling gameplay on a more casual level (casual as in friendly, party play, not people who don't play many games). Like playing Hide & Seek, you want everyone to play by some 'guidelines' in order to have a decent match.
And again, you expect a bad one every now and then, getting camped or tunneled out of the game really early on because people rescue you within seconds, but if it happens too often you really want to stop playing. But it's not the game that's the problem, it's the players. This has the best potential for any game of this category, and we want it to be the thrilling experience we're looking for, not hook simulator with some DCs and some shady tactics. I know there are a lot of valid styles depending on circumstance, but to ruin someone else's experience intentionally is just not the right thing to do, in any game. There's a counter-argument that this is how they have fun, but that's not how multi-player games ought to be played, in my opinion. We're all here together, killers and survivors, and we want our beloved game to thrive and gain more players, not lose more because of the toxic behavior (referring to communication as well, we all need to lighten up and not take things so hard. No one should ever get a death threat or told to kill themselves, threats of cancer/etc just because you died, escaped, or didn't win).
-
Not really. I can't usually last more than thirty seconds in a chase, given that pallets are usually gone or the killer is just much more experienced than me. They buffed Legion's speed, too, so it's not like you can't catch anyone. Also, Bloodlust.
-
Cool. I'm still not going to buy it, but I'm happy for the rest of you.
Waiting on Pharmacy...
-
During Legion's power activation, shadows of Legion may spring from lockers when survivors pass and apply Deep Wounds. Scary?
-
The game seems not to be connecting for many PS4 users at present. If you do manage to log in, there are no games it can load into.
-
Ohh, I don't use SC so I didn't realize. I still take it for others, though I think a lot of people try We'll Make It instead. You're generally healing around an unhook time, not random times, and the full-speed heal is just a great bonus everyone enjoys.
-
Botany Knowledge doesn't work on self-healing, does it?
-
Pharmacy. I have Nightmare on my other platform, I'm not buying it again for one perk. I didn't play Freddy even when I had him.
-
It would be amazing to see some haunted visage slither out of a locker and give me a heart attack, but it being able to transport around the map like that would have to reduce their base movement speed, and a lot of people are sick of killers like that (although I'm not; those are usually the ones with the most creative powers, like Nurse. No, I don't want anything to be as strong as Nurse).
Another idea involving lockers is to turn them into traps, sort of where passing by would cause one to get sucked into a locker, and you have to break out before the killer comes over and removes you. I had the idea of Iron Maiden turning them into damaging spikes, but it would have to be one or two lockers on the map or something to be fair.
-
It is Filthy Blade. I had one earlier today with Frank's Mix Tape and Filthy Blade that caused successive Mends to become astronomical. When you're sitting there for a near minute and the bar isn't partway full, something is not working properly.
-
Does report mean type in a message, or just click the little coach for Unsportsmanlike? It says to select that for disconnecting and such...
-
It's the perks and addons that turn the annoyance of Mend into a real problem. Drastically increase healing time, reduce the rate in terror radius, extend terror radius, see people healing, reduce rate for each injured survivor, increase Mend time, allow easier chases with quicker downs; everything just stacks up and becomes a problem.
Any killer could use the same perks and gain an edge, but none of them directly include a second layer of required healing like Legion. Add in the incredibly powerful (or sometimes outright broken) add-ons, the shady tactics to cheat the system, and this becomes a situation in which you cannot win against a competent killer. Base power already prevents looping so you can't outlast a chase either. I really don't know a way to change things so it's better for everyone, but that's why people have such an issue when they see Legion approaching. Well, not my Legion, but good ones.
-
Bad stretches happen. I lost Streamers the other day when the killer DC'd right after the match began. I thought I'd get 10k BP for the escape, but no, I made about 1kBP. I know it can start to wear on you after consecutive games like that, but keep at it. You're bound to run into a nice match and have a good time, whether you escape or not.
-
Does Ace's range perk stack with the Killer aura from Kindred? So 12m instead of 8m?
-
No one mentioned Kindred? It's my next fav behind Borrowed Time. I also think Spine Chill is incredibly powerful, used that a while when I was new (I'm still bad, but I take perks now I can't rely on to save me. So far it hasn't helped me improve ~_~).
I love Technician but be warned currently it makes sounds louder. There was a YT video about it recently and I'm not sure it's been fixed yet.
-
I spawned in Lerys as a lvl 1 Legion (R1 Iron Maiden) and got two DC's. I was so disappointed because it could have been a really fun match! All those walls/corners and no scratches, they could have lost me easy. They didn't even wait to see how bad I am at killer.
-
That sweet, sweet Susie outfit <3
It's worth it. I got them and love them. I haven't put a lot of points in because I don't want to use the perks that mesh with Frenzy, but be warned that while running around is fun, you'll still get an occasional DC or two once you're spotted or start slashing.
They also come with a Perk to clean those pesky Dwights out of your lockers.
-
But I forego healing to combat the Plague =/ I never run SC so I can't heal anyway. I've started taking Resilience to fight Legion/Plague and it's been great. Also, when other survivors wander by to help a gen and see the cloud, they stand a moment and then run away, it's funny.
-
I run into that occasionally, when they perceive you as bad but still lose, and want to insult you over and over while supposedly laughing. When the players are obviously new and the ranks confirm this (>10) you might tend to go a bit easy, only to get accused of farming. I'm already playing by survivor rules, what more do they want? I need points too, y'know.
-
It's very hard to say what a viable fix would be that would satisfy the greatest amount of people. Some really like Legion and don't want significant changes, while others find them irritating (and often with good reason). Part of the problem is that certain Perks go so well with the base ability that make it incredibly powerful. I'm talking of a combo like Sloppy Butcher, Distressing, Coulrophobia, and Thanatophobia. This just makes the irritant of Mending/healing back up into a nightmare.
Perhaps the most convenient change would be to reduce the time to Mend Legion's attacks, making it less aggravating on survivors, but this in turn negates Legion's ability to counter gens which I feel is part of the point. Their kit makes them stall survivors and see others nearby, to spread the reduction around and thus the game as a whole. Reducing that presence would harm Legion's power, so people would be upset with this as well. It really isn't easy to change such a thing, when you think about it. What would you all change to make Legion more fair and fun to use? I realize everyone's definition of fun may differ, but something that would give both sides of the game a good time, win or lose. (Still not easy, right?)
-
Cosmetics.
-
What would people change Feral Frenzy to? The ability to look like another Survivor? I think people still wanted such an ability, and it would be pretty interesting if someone played like a decoy survivor up until they shanked you.
-
Some vaults are broken and will put the vaulter on the side they approached. The bus in Autohaven is one, there's a window in Family Residence that does this as well. I've seen it both as a survivor and as a killer.
-
I came here thinking it might be news on Bunny Min. I've been waiting. Hoping. Browsing the concept arts... how long is it going to take?
-
Oh dear, I already got to a good rank and people expect me to be better than I am. I did get words of encouragement from a friendly teammate who recognized me from a game a while back, so that was nice.
-
I experience the same thing, buy a new survivor and get some lucky Streamers only to get camped right out of the match early, or die in one hook since no one can/will rescue. Wouldn't the killer at least want to draw it out for more points too? The game is grindy enough! I also hate when someone sees the map/killer and DC's leaving you with 3 for 5 gens. It should cut out a gen at that point, although I don't know if this is balanced or not.
-
Assuming survivors stack all the powerful perks, yeah it can be easy, but I don't do that in the hopes of getting better. It hasn't worked so far, but I don't use Self-Care, Exhaustion perks, any form of stun, endurance, or killer aura reading perks (though I occasionally run Spine Chill). My big choices are Borrowed Time, Kindred, Empathy, Lightweight, We'll Make It, Botany Knowledge, Technician (which is broken atm), and sometimes WGLF so I can learn the perks of new characters I unlocked.
It really sucks with some killers, especially in the lower ranks where they're running all the nasty perks together. On top of a team of solos who try to help, but often I die on 1st hook since no one ever comes to rescue (or maybe they just dislike Jane? I can't see that, she's awesome). I'm also really, really bad. Killers have it so easy against people of my skill level yet the rank system is designed such that I'm purple and people expect better of me. I actually set a new record of chase today so I am making progress, but it's not like killer's don't have strong perk combinations either.
Good killers vs. overly-altruistic teammates is a bad combo. The thing is, you want your teammates to be really helpful, just not to the point where you're all laying there dead because you couldn't hold back for a few moments. I wish for a perkless mode, or maybe a week where everyone plays without them so we each can see how it runs, how powerful the perks actually are, and which ones we'd like to use. Information can be a powerful tool in a game like this, so do you take those (Bond, Kindred, Dark Sense, etc) or do you take DS, Self Care, Sprint Burst, or something that helps you deal with the killer directly? It's good to have a big pool so the choice is difficult and therefore more important. If there were only a couple, everyone would be the same and every match would as well.
-
That would make me use it. I'm always throwing myself in front of others.
Sometimes it's even on purpose ~_^
-
I knew you would mention that video when I saw this title ~_^
-
No skill checks at that stage, please. It should just be a button if you want to give up.
-
That's pretty good! I can get a rare blind, but the survivor is never saved. I wonder if I'm trying too late.

Yeah, I would have preferred Nancy from the OG Nightmare on Elm St. rather than Quentin from the 2010 reboot.
Right?! They said they couldn't get her, the original actress, but I think her character appeared in the remake which our Freddy was based on, so I wanted that at least. I mean imagine getting Scream but instead of Sydney it's Dewey >_<
-
No, I just have a thing for chicken suits.
@baileyiscute I've been desperate for Bunny Min ever since! Check my profile!
-
What about horror? There's always some half-naked bimbo running and screaming from a killer. I think they'd fit right in, not that I want to turn anyone into a perv. I think more traditional costumes would be funny, like business wear or uniforms. I don't think it should get silly, like a woman in a giant chicken suit or anything...
But I'd totally buy Jane in a giant chicken suit.
-
Yeah, something like that would work. I hate to see seal clubbers because that's just unfair all around. I've been trying to come up with a complete game re-haul but I've only got the framework down, I don't know what details would make the game fun and fair for all. I'm going to make a post about it though, so maybe other people can fill in the gaps. I'm trying to solve the problem of gen rushing and games being so short in general, so people can squeeze more fun and playtime out of each match without the possibility of being camp-farmed out within moments.
-
Who has time to teabag? I can barely escape some of my chases, I wouldn't stick around bouncing when I could be running or hiding. The people that teabag me almost always get caught. You can lunge into pallets and hit them sometimes when they don't realize it. They get pissed and tell you to #########, but what are you supposed to do? Meander right in and take the stun, without trying? You're going to camp a pallet waiting for me, I'm going to lunge. It's only logical.
I get blinded at the break animation too, but that's fine. It really is the only time to use it, and it's for extending chases, since saving is so difficult now. I can get blinds off killers picking up, but they never drop the survivor. So I don't know what a flashlight is for now, accept to light up the dark maps.
-
Oh, I didn't realize that. I saw NOED kill someone at full health even though MoM was active. It says basic attacks, isn't it supposed to only work on M1 hits? Well, you're right, if he's making hits then he deserves the kill, but that's why perk choice is important because they can change the game. I don't see MoM as overly-powerful IF it's used by itself, but when combined with others it can be a real thorn, I agree.
I think they should have limited perks for that reason. You're only allowed one or two of them, or perhaps categories. Maybe a Super Perk that cuts your available slots in half, so you're stuck with just two. I don't know, I just think that something significant should change instead of perks on top of perks (although I do like to see what they give us every Chapter).
Perks can make the game fun, and for people that have been playing a long time they can really change things up, though I see it's not always for the better. My killer hasn't gotten to red ranks and never will, so it seems like a problem for people that know what they're doing. But newbies really do need some extra help, though I don't think the game should be balanced around that exactly. It's not easy to balance a game like this, and taking ranks into account it becomes even harder. I don't have an answer for those who dislike the new perk, but I'm sure it will change soon given all the problems it's causing. No one wants to lose players over this, so I hope killers can deal with it for a little while longer.
