My friends barely play this game, so on the rare occasion that they do, we SWF and play against brown/yellow rank killers. I honestly don't see that big of difference compare to playing against red rank ones. Same on the killer side.

I mentioned que times are a problem (or at least a problem in my region), so I completely understand why killer and survivor derank. I don't agree with it, but I understand their frustrations.

In what region and platform are  you playing? Are you from some far far away place? That would explain abnormally long queues and same skill levels all accross the board, given that the player pool might be very limited there.

I'm on PS4 in NA and I can say there's a big difference between R1 and R20. I recently experienced that by not playing survivor for 3 or 4 months straight and going down to R17 as a result. Neither killers' nor survivors' gameplay there can compare to R1.

What I found out there is that killers manage to 3 or 4k every game nonetheless. But that doesn't mean they're good, it just means new, solo survivors get shortest straw in the game.
  • Here's my take on it, and I truly believe this is caused by an entirely separate and far more critical issue with Dead by Daylight.

    1. Queue times are god awful (though this is not universal for everyone; region/time of day/patch pending).
    2. Survivors claim to want more killer variety and play styles to encounter.

I can only answer the second reason I've given, and it's a direct consequence of the game's awful balance. Why do you think the same killers are encountered, using the same perks/play styles at high ranks? Well, most killers are underwhelming outside of the two most popular (nurse or billy), and most players playing at rank one are almost forced into optimal play to get any level of enjoyment out of a game that is so clearly unbalanced. Those are my two cents.

I think that 2. is a little naive to believe, though it may be possible. But unless you're going all the way down to R15, chances are you'll face the same number of Billies and Nurses at any rank, simply because they're superior baseline killers.

And what excuse would deranking killers use? Survivors are skins only.

I think it could easily be fixed if intentionally DCing no longer meant losing pips, but instead meant losing BP. If you had zero BP at that point, now you have a negative balance.

That would be awesome, but i think most players derank by killing themselves or afking. I don't see people DCing right off the bat, only ragequits. So it would still be a problem.
Edit: well, i always go to rank 1 asap, so maybe i just stay with players who want to rank up.
Interesting. I would've thought dcing was a more efficient way of doing it. But I don't know since I don't do it, nor I know anyone who does it (In no way I'm implying you do, in fact you state quite the contrary).

I do the same as you, I play and rank up right after reset, so I guess I get to face the non-cheese players.
  • Mc_Harty said:

If ranking actually mattered people wouldn't derank. Currently the only noticeable difference between rank 1 and rank 20 is how long you wait for a game.

I disagree. If ranking didn't matter, people wouldn't derank to get easier games. Lame AF if you ask me.

And just in case you're not exaggerating to get a point across, if that's really your experience, I would say it completely is caused by all the usual red rankers playing at yellow or (whatever the color is for 15 - 20) ranks and trolling the new guys there, because deranking exists in the first place.

And I would ask, how can you experience both low and high ranks at the same time, in order to make a statement like that?

  • I think it could easily be fixed if intentionally DCing no longer meant losing pips, but instead meant losing BP. If you had zero BP at that point, now you have a negative balance.

For the rare real life justified DC, well, sorry about that, you're playing an online multiplayer game. I'm sure any real life emergency is more important than, let's say, 10k bloodpoints.

That way, the trolls would no longer be rewarded with their precious derank, and would be forced to actually tank the match in order to lose pips, which would come off as incredibly lame and coward, especially for the streamer guys.

I think this could be a solution, tweaks here and there.

Well deranking wasnt rlly adressed to be fair.

Also freddy is still crying in the corner......

He deserves it, being a child molester and all. Now HE gets to be molested by children.
  • Yes, it's coming

    Soon. TM
  • It's funny how they try to prevent killer from doing his main objective. Good luck hooking an swf team with breakdown...

Slug them if they have breakdown. The benefit of having them waste 35 seconds there (at least) outweighs the benefits of hooking them again. Because they'll break that hook, too.

Except for BBQ. 64k bloodpoints taste nice if you ask me.

But then you're not using it for the tracking; you're using it for the BP.

You're right. Truckloads of BP, especially with him. I think I've scored more 32k matches with the Doc than with all other killers combined.
  • It went both ways in my opinion.

I agree on hooking people there to maintain pressure instead of wasting precious time going downstairs. What's the point of hooking in the basement if you're not going to hard patrol or camp, anyway?

However, most of the times that stupid hook got in the way when trying to hug walls, creating an even more frustrating loop to chase around in the shack, as a killer.

A sweet spot would be a couple of meters away, but that's my killer bias...
  • Orion said:

Too true. You don't put tracking perks on a guy who's inherently good at tracking Survivors. That'd be like putting a (hypothetical) perk that allows you to teleport on the Nurse.

Except for BBQ. 64k bloodpoints taste nice if you ask me.

I'll post this yet again, the devs idea is to buff solo players up the level of swf by giving them a base Kindred so that they're basically on the same information level as swf.

Then since all survivors will be mostly equal information wise killers can then be buffed up to that level and thus there's no imbalance when killers get buffed to solo players.

I honestly think they won't ever buff killers to "match" SWF strengths.

The reason I say this is that killers (even the weak ones) are already wrecking the place and murdering everybody (especially solos) in the 15 - 20 ranks, and given that at those ranks even SWF are not playing optimally, survival rates would drastically drop. I don't think any amount of information will substantially help solos at those ranks, when everyone is just getting to know the game mechanics.

That said, new survivors would have close to zero reasons to keep playing, or dying I should say. Bad business, in other words.

Besides, they've already stated not all killers have to be viable, and you can play as Billy or Nurse if you want to kill people.

I could only suggest balancing around brackets, make ranking skill based, etc etc etc. Not happening
  • Master said:

That doesnt stop them putting low FOV restrictions upon killers.

Or forcing players through nausea inducing animations like nurse's fatigue and the incredibly useless effect of bloodlust. The latter gives you the sweet bonus of a half second freeze (at least) and a nice drop in FPS on a PS4 so you  can perfectly miss your swing.
  • @Milo said:
Not a change to the base. A potential buff to Boil Over

The problem I see with that is that I think boil over is already effective in certain maps like Haddonfield, Springwood and Lery's. It might turn up OP in said maps if it's buffed.

The fact you still think rank even matters just debunks your entire argument. Purple rank can still get matched with Red ranks and i don’t play full time on console but from my time playing there its easy compared to pc.

The fact that you think your opinion is worth more than others just debunks your entire argument. We can do this all day long, buddy.

  • Addressing the initial topic, how about this idea: Let survivors keep their skill check free escape and stun, but don't make killers waste so much time (especially for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th DS users). Prompt for the skill check right after being picked up.

So many times I've been hit with the unexpected 2nd DS right when I'm taking the survivor to the basement. I mean, at that point I've carried them to the most loopable structure in the match myself.

North America and my connection is not the best, it took 10 minutes for 1 person to join

Honestly the only time - ever - I have experienced unbearable queues was during the first week of the hallowed blight event. Couldn't get into a single game for a few days, I waited up to 15 minutes and gave up.

  • @ToxicFengM1n said:

mine was as soon as legion dropped

Region, maybe then? I'm in NA and I played 7 - 8 matches yesterday, waiting 2 minutes in each lobby at the most.

  • @ToxicFengM1n said:

Rank 4 is red rank, so would that count towards the pain of rank 1 queue times

I think it depends on at which point of the season are you ranking up. If you do it right after rank reset, yes queue times are longer. Later in the season you get quicker full lobbies.

  • @Vietfox said:
Hi rank 20 killer, a good way to make survivors being scared of you is to be good as a killer. If you keep making mistakes they won't take you seriously.

As blunt as it may be, I definitely agree with your statement there. The best way to keep survivors from mocking a killer is being a dangerous presence right off the bat. And get ready for the hate texts after the game, when you manage to put survivors in their place.

  • @ForeheadSurviors said:

Stop acting like ps4 is a challenge, i’ve played on ps4 at rank 5 and i can honestly tell you every survivor is boosted.

Stop acting as you know how rank one goes, given that you play at R5

  • PS4 killer here. I'd say 75% of my games at R1 have at least one DS. And I think they will never touch it.

At least I would like to see if two or more people have the perk, because most of the times the second or third person using it catches killers with their pants down.

  • Killers have to keep track of 7 generators, 4 survivors (each requiring 3 hook stages to die), and possiby hex totems to defend, in order to achieve their objective. Survivors have the numerical advantage and can split 5 objectives between 4 players. It's only logical that killers score more points every match, otherwise, less people would be drawn to play the most demanding role in the game. Playing survivor allows me to sip on a beer and lay back while playing, and still escape/pip. Playing killer is a whole different affair.

Hits through windows and short fences make sense, think about it, there's no obstacle between the killer's weapon and the survivor. You can dodge the hit by crouching, by the way.

Killers' bigger hitboxes work 100% AGAINST them, in issues like looping around objects and making sharp turns. Learn to take advantage of that fact. Smaller killer hitboxes would mean the end to the Looping META. As much as I'd like to see that (I'm a killer main), I'm certain it will never happen.

I second what user @ChesterTheMolester said about lag switching.

  • No cooldown please, she already makes you look at the floor with her nausea-inducing fatigue...

Well, they literally said you already have Billy and Nurse if you want to kill people.

  • Not that I give a damn about trophies anyway, but it would be a nice detail, yes.

  • @Dwight_Fairfield said:

Again if you're a long time Myers main you've probably stacked up that many kills by now with mori or tombstone. Especially people who have tried for the Evil Incarnate achievement.

I really doubt that, but even if you're right, what's the matter with it? We all got instant trophies when Kate, Spirit were introduced to the game. The ones about whiffing/vaulting and smacking people that dropped a pallet in a chase (ridiculous one).

  • @Dwight_Fairfield said:
A lot of long time players and Michael mains would automatically get the trophy as soon as it was introduced. I know I have certainly racked up that many kills with him easily.

How about killing them via Mori or Tombstone? I think that would be a good idea. I agree 100% with OP. @redsopine01 where did you get that count, though?

  • @Doc_W__HOLLIDAY said:

The nerf to Doc didn't really affect me. I never used NC on Doc.

Anyway, if solos become SWF strong, ****they can megabuff Killers**** and not have to think twice about it.

Do you honestly believe this is a possibility, after hearing them recently (Legion-time) talk about the viability of killers?

  • Sound is busted, meaning every single killer is having a hard time. Spirit just gets the shortest straw.

  • Even if I think that bridging the gap between solos and SWF is a good idea and I would support it, I don't think the devs will ever buff killers without reworking the mechanics of the game as a whole (which I don't see ever happening), and this is a bummer. The reason behind this is that killers are already slaughtering everyone in the low ranks, even with simple skill checks and holding buttons as the means to achieve survivors' objectives.

I didn't play survivor for around three or four months, deranking all the way back to R17. Yesterday I played as a solo 10 matches give or take and this is what I observed: 4Ks most of them (I only escaped a couple of times), more than half of the matches with 4 gens left so not even a chance to get the hatch, and generally survivors DCing as soon as they're hooked, just too scared, fooling around trying to ochido the killer or just plain clueless about the whole thing. The changes you propose would really help all these people (me included), given the killers stay at their current level. If they buff killers, we're back at the beginning.

After getting wrecked as a surv, I played 6 or 7 matches at killer R1 as Trapper, LF, Piggy and Wraith. Meaning I didn't play Billy, Huntress or Myers on purpose. Results of every single match: 2 gens popped with the first guy still on the hook, the 3rd gen popping soon after that, and of course having a real hard time for the rest of the match. Can you imagine what would happen with built-in aura reading? Not a single chance for people choosing to play as this killers. At this moment, mechanics need changes and some killers need buffs, even without built-in aura reading. It's a mess.

I think real balance could only be achieved if first of all, the ranking system gets reworked, making it skill-based, using statistics and such, and then balance the game around ranking brackets, where in the low ranks objectives are simple, skill checks are easy (as they are now), killers are not too powerful and murder everyone in every match, and new survivors can get a grip of the game. In the other hand, at high ranks killers should not be so underpowered that 3 gens pop in the first hook, gens need real skill checks (similar to F13, as an example) or QTE's to progress, killers need additional time, the game needs more objectives in general, etc.

But this sounds almost as designing a new game from scratch. Coupled with their need to design new killers each 3 or 4 months, a truckload of bugs to fix, optimization for consoles, and of course dishing out cosmetics, I don't see a rework this big ever happening.

TLDR: IMO, balance should be based around ranking brackets, we need a meaningful and well thought ranking system, and a lot of changes in the mechanics of the game need a rework. Not happening.

  • FIX THE FRAMERATE on console first. That's like a 30% buff to all killers on its own.

  • FPS in PS4 is in the worst state since I bought the game a year ago. It got even worse after the last patch. Playing killer, every single time I'm about to hit people, frames drop to what looks like 5fps. Whenever the bloodlust effect kicks in (I dislike those useless things, both the status and the effect), the screen just plain freezes for a second. Haddonfield, Springwood and Yamaoka are just a pain to bear, lowest FPS even when not swinging (and missing). And don't even think about playing Doctor...

Besides, half of the time the console sounds like a jet fighter taking off. At first I wasn't experiencing crashes, but they've become more common and I'm starting to get concerned about the software harming the hardware, as some forum members have stated in other threads.

3 more crashes and I'm uninstalling this game for good.

Sarcasm? I'm deadly serious, a fire cracker that can be avoided by moving your camera slightly in any direction and there has to be a thread about it, while there's offeringass in the game that a killer can use where they only have to put 1/3rd of the effort into killing a survivor.

Isn't there better, more meaningful things to complain about, like map object placement and building layouts? lmao.

Something tells me that if I did just that, you'd still give the same answer. But peace, anyway. By the looks of it, seems I'm the only one disliking the firecracker things. I guess I don't get too amused with the festivities and stuff.

  • @Nickenzie said:

Just look up, I survived a firecracker by doing just that! Yes, you won't be able to hear anything but at least you still have the survivor on your shoulder. :)

Yeah that's true, maybe I just had bad luck in the first couple of games running into some experts who knew exactly when and where to throw the things, namely that exact moment when I was stuck in the animation picking people up. But no big deal after that, still killed some people anyway. Game on.

Just happened to find one while doing a Jeff daily up against a straight-up face-camping LF. Was able to get the unhook because of it. It was absolutely fantastic; I see now why folks are loving 'em.

That being said, on killer, if you see the animation of that arm moving, just side-step it and keep charging, deal with the second-hand deafening, or simply look up if you have a survivor shouldered. Not sure if folks just haven't used them at the right time on me and they're actually unavoidable if used right or if the looking away is the actual counter, but it's worked for me every time thus far since I caught on.

Also, accidentally using one can be hazardous to your stealth health.

Yeah, no big deal after all. I guess I had bad luck running into a couple of death squads the first day. After that, usual gameplay. My bloodwebs are bugged I guess though, because I'm not getting the ebony mories and all the cool stuff everyone's talking about.

I like how killers only ever see it as a "free escape". You can tell these people dont play survivor much.

Go play a game where someone disconnects a minute in. Now you know there's almost zero chance of you powering those exit gates. Sure there's the hatch, but only one of you gets it. Two people have to die. It's not a pleasant experience and it's quite tense. Some survivors even try to get each other killed.

It's really not as rosy as you make it out to be.

You're describing it exactly as a survival horror game should make it feel, IMO.
