I often have to camp and tunnel because the other survivors are hiding, and it's pointless to go too far from a hooked survivor if the survivors might be hiding far away from generators. And it's extra pointless to leave a hooked survivor if it's a SWF with voice communication, because the hooked survivor will just relay the killer's position to the rest of the team, to make it even easier for them to hide from the killer.
BHVR said they would look into the reasons why camping and tunneling exist, but survivors hiding, and voice communication is still a huge problem. Before this patch, I could use BBQ or pain res to find other survivors, but BBQ isn't worth using anymore, and pain res's info got removed. And I don't even have the "let's get 4 BBQ stacks" incentive anymore. BHVR removed my incentives to go far away from a hooked survivor.
Those are all valid points. I can understand them. SWF on comms has always made balancing so difficult, and they have a distinct and undeniable advantage over Killers.
As for stealthing, I've seen numerous threads aimed at survivors "You have to learn to play the game differently now! You have to fear the Killer, you have to get better at hiding and not expect to loop the Killer for days! Git Gud".
So maybe some people are stealthing because with the basekit buffs, and gutting of most decent perks, they think it's the better option? Idk.

Iv never in my life said this SBMM is good... however alot of people will have climbed higher than they should have with the old patches with stacked second chance perks especially DH.
If killers didnt camp/tunnel the patch is fine, people are looking at an issue but blaming the patch
I think most people are blaming the patch because all the basekit buffs to Killers, and the ridiculous over-nerfing of a lot of survivor perks (not Dead hard. I've seen plenty of survivors, myself included not give a rat's arse about it and if it caused a lot of problems, then I have no issue it's gone). So things like Decisive Strike; an anti-tunneling perk- were made useless. Devs tried to sell us the idea that OTR was vastly superior to it in everyway. But it's not. It's no where near as good as DS (in my opinion. I've been tunneled relentlessly and OTR barely did anything and it deactivates during end game so why bother?). Iron Will made useless. I mean, Botany Knowledge was a buff for SWF, a nerf for Solo Q (so if you run it, and you pull a brown med kit, you can't heal yourself). BK was perfectly fine. It didn't need a buff OR a nerf either way. Self Care nerf is just laughable. What about Calm Spirit? Such an innocuous perk, but now it has a huge penalty to run it.
Devs and even Killers on the forums said the issue was: 'I have to camp and tunnel to have a shot because gens are too fast!". So now they aren't. But that actually buffed camping and tunneling, and Killers are still running very oppressive gen regression builds where actually completing gens is ridiculously frustrating while still; surprise! Camping and tunneling! Because now it's a guaranteed 4k against Solos. The "Just do geeennnzzzzzz" counter argument is dead in the water. That's not possible now- UNLESS you in a 4 man SWF on comms maybe.
So they took a playerbase (Solo Q casuals), and extended the least fun, most tedious aspect of gameplay. And for reasons I will never understand, they thought Killer's would have a universal Honour Code and they would just choose not to use the easiest most reliable strats for victory (camping and tunneling + gen regression build). Imo, that was dumb. They thought the 15 year old in Liverpool taking his puberty out on survivors would somehow think: "Oh I don't have to camp anymore! What a fun game I shall have actually hooking survivors and looking for another one!". No, we get that 15 year old as Plague puking constantly on the first hooked survivor until they die.
So it's the idea they completely left casual Solo Q out of their precious "balancing". See, SWF's aren't having any problems (shocking!). I think Solo Q expected them to do something that would make our matches not as depressing either before they buffed Killers, or in the same patch. But we got a: "Hey guys! Exciting new Meta! Oh, Solos, we know we mentioned you in January but we've put off whatever that is off for at least 12 months. Yeahhhhh we're not even talking about it :( .......LOOKIT FENG'S NEW HAT. It GLOWS".
I think people blame "The Patch" as a short cut when we're expressing frustration at the long neglected issues, and this patch buffing the most irritating and oppressive aspects of the game was just hard to swallow.

And yet they have steadfast faith this same matchmaking system will miraculously do it's job now that Dead Hard is gone.

If you liked that, you might like My Time at Portia on Steam. It's another happy little game but the art/graphics are nicer.

Tired of people plugging their ears and burying their heads in the sand.
This update SUCKS for casual Survivors.
I don't really think it needs time, I'd rather just not play at all tbh. I get maybe one good match a night. Not worth it lol
Exactly. I'm a casual Solo Q player. I have a job. I have responsibilities during the week. I can't log in all the time. And when I did play, sure, I'd try my best of course not to let the team down, but I just don't like DBD in super sweat mode. I'd sometimes run Blast Mine, or try something new. But it makes me wonder how many people are casuals playing, vs how many watch the top streamers and absorb their opinions. Or how many were being mis-matched, or versing SWFs.
In my area of MMR pre-patch (I'm probably a mid-tier Solo survivor, but I'm in low MMR Hell and can't get out), I've seen Dead Hard's fail epicly. I always had that team mate that ran out for their flashlight save while I'm being carried *'I'm coming Bill! Watch me blind the Killer with my dazzling skills!"*.
Never lands. Just never, never works LOL. And I always think; "Bless. You tried. Please do a gen now. I beg you".
The casual Solo Q experience was always Clown world. I've never been a part of this DBD experience where every survivor is a God looper, and Dead Hard managed to complete 2 gens on it's own, picked up slugs, healed 12 survivors and opened the gate while simultaneously cleansing NOED.
But it was a Clown World that had it's moments. Like you got some really fun matches and a bunch of the same 'ol face camp. Now, it's actually kind of depressing after the patch.

Yes yes, none of the survivors on this forum ever used DH, we know.
Why is it so difficult for you to imagine Solo Q players are a varied bunch, and some of us (me included) never used Dead hard? Whenever I watched sweaty streamers who eat, sleep and breathe DBD, I know DH was always used. There's no question it was the top perk at high MMR. But there's a huge crop of casual Solo Q players that have always used different perks.
My old build was Borrowed Time, Decisive, Lithe and the fourth would be old Botany Knowledge, Inner Strength or Q&Q. The first two obviously as necessary anti-camp/anti-tunnel.
Most Solo Q players are not high MMR. The majority of players on all sides are in that huge middle zone between low and high.

You think the MMR works? Oh my sweet, summer child.

I was being camped at 5 gens the other day by a Bubba. I've been playing Stardew Valley in the evenings b/c it's fair to say the state of the game since the patch has been pretty clown world.
All I could think about was how the Bubba should just set up a little vegetable garden beside his favourite hook. They do that with convicts sometimes. They have them garden and stuff like that to give them a hobby, calm them down, make them feel productive etc.
Then I looked at Bubba and thought; "This man has never seen a vegetable in his life :/ ".
Hook dangling thoughts are sort of like the shower thoughts of DBD.
-
I queued up, but my dog wanted out. Thought I had time to quickly take him to the backyard.
The Solo survivor queues have been insanely fast, so when I got in, the match was just about loaded. I'm in Ormond and I'm playing Bill in his Christmas sweater and baseball cap. Get to a generator, and it's a fellow Bill with the same outfit.
Game goes- we're all Bill's with the same cosmetic combo (not too hard, Bill doesn't have many but still). At one point we were all together in the shack and as survivors do, start butt dancing, pointing at each other. I think; "Oh lord, I must be with a 3 man SWF but at least their fun".
Killer camped of course (Bubba). I think maybe he smelled SWF or something.
Post match, I get a message from one fellow Bill; "I guess you guys are a 3 Man SWF?".
And I tell him I thought I was with a 3 man SWF. He said he just mains Bill a lot (so do I lol).
So in the end, it just happened to be 4 Bills queued for a match randomly wearing the same thing.
-
I miss the old hatch and keys.
I miss Ranks. My matches seemed a lot more balanced under the rank system, and I'd get a mix of sweaty games, but also casual and goofy ones.

I thought you said the cheats were subtle?
Touche.
I said subtle because the cheats I'm used to seeing are downright outrageous. like a Hag flying around the map and slugging everyone in seconds. Or spawning with the Killer and same deal (everyone slugged in seconds). The Sadako's actually went an entire match. The thing where she was up in the air I only saw once briefly in the match. Like she blinked up and down, and if I wasn't watching I'd have missed it. The No Way Out of course, that happened at the very end.
Normally these cheaters don't have the self control to go thru the whole match.

Huntress in a ballgown? Bless but you're being conservative and not keeping her culture in mind.

And the costume would be hilarious to see running through Coldwind.

Not calling for nerfs or anything. Just ranting. That sucked lol
Idk if it's because Im on console or what, but this happened to me. I couldn't see a damn thing though. The Nightfall is so bloody dark, and I know PC players can brighten things up for themselves.

Dbd is desperately in need for a tutorial on how not to be that one solo teammate everyone is ranting about on the forum.
I'd probably be better off with some garbage bins as teammates instead of some Leons catching crows at the exit while the others are trying to cleanse NOED, an Ace self-caring under sloppy butcher while I'm going second stage and the killer is chasing someone else.. A Meg slowly making her way to the basement chest, god forbid she wastes her sprint burst..And so many more occasions where I'd just wanna DC and uninstall.
Preach LOL. Omg hahaha this perfectly describes BHVR's precious SBMM

There is a habitual factor and an addiction factor. Don't blame yourself- it's about habit and addiction. Game makers, DBD included, are fully aware of this and depend/bank on it.
This isn't medical advice, but tbh if it's making you miserable the most effective way to treat it is to replace the addiction. I'm playing Stardew Valley LOL.
God my fall pumpkins are epic this year.

Okay if I, a baby bronze killer, can find survivors during a chase who run Iron Will, I have NO CLUE ######### is going on with everyone else. If youre in a chase and your prey just suddenly VANISHES--they didn't. They're hiding. Taking like a 2 second look around and you will physically FEEL your character run into theirs. How does anyone on earth think this perk is broken. I hardly even saw it in my killer games, and when I did see it, it didn't do anything for someone in chase--because I can literally see them. Being quiet wasn't gonna hide them.
This forum is filled with Killer mains. So yanno...lol.
As a fellow Bill main, and I mean, I LOVE his chain smoker cough, he is pretty loud with it LOL. I ran iron Will a lot before the patch because Bill loves his Lucky Strikes.
But yeah- they purposely obliterated Iron Will. It's useless now. Solo Q is depression. Idk what to say, man.
I mean we can enjoy Bill's Christmas sweater. That's what they left us with. Cosmetics! Even tho Bill has next to none.
Hey, I'm sure Feng will have a new hat or 7 soon.

It has been the same to me and I don't understand why. They should at leats have increased the hook timer with gens are longer and someone being camped seens to be a thing on every match now.
Firstly, the matchmaking system has been crap since day 1. It's never worked properly, and they have never addressed or fixed it. For some reason after this patch, the SBMM is even worse (on my end anyways, and I've seen loads of people saying the same thing).
I believe Devs tried the hook timer idea before but it was abused by SWF's (or something like that). The problem is that BHVR constantly "balances" the game between Killers and SWF. Playing against a 3 or 4 man SWF is vastly different than against Solos, and a lot of the "second chance perks" were established to help Solo Q out. Like Decisive Strike. Solo's cannot coordinate well as a team. So the game for Solo's is partially one of lone survival. You can't depend on your team mates. You don't know what they're doing. You don't know if they're being efficient, or wasting time and you definitely can't tell them how to play (and they should be able to play how they want within the rules). But that sort of precariousness can make for a very miserable match. Camping and tunneling has always been disproportionately effective against Solo Q. It can almost guarantee a 4k. It shouldn't be that way, but Devs have no interest in addressing it. So in came perks like Decisive Strike. Even Dead Hard (never ran it, but it's purpose was to extend a chase). Is the Killer tunneling you off the hook? Well it will be more difficult for them and at least you can waste some of their time so your unknown team mates can get some work done. Tunneling will come at a cost.
So I think they "balanced" for the top percent of hardcore players and SWF's, because SWF did have an undeniable advantage over Killers. But the majority (casual Solo's), were just an afterthought. We're filler material to BHVR LOL.
We all know what needs to happen; they need to give Solos some basekit info. It's a no-brainer but BHVR for whatever reason refuses to do it.

That's great and I'm glad that Scott is having a good time this patch.
I'm not Scott. I can't play Survivor that well, I do not have that many hours on it and I can't find any enjoyment in having the Killer follow me for 5 seconds after I get unhooked to slam me back on the ground. I can't find any enjoyment after seeing a facecamping Bubba after a Thana slowdown stacking Mending Simulator.
I think I've had maybe 5 good games on Survivor since the update dropped. The only reason I keep playing is because I can't very well play Killer with my friends AND those queues are insane.
You're basically describing my experience. The games you posted back in this thread was the story of yesterday evening for me. I don't understand how my games are completely miserable, camping and tunneling through the roof, bad manners (basement camping and being hit on the hook at 5 gens) are at an all time high for me, yet I read here on the forums things like; "I'm having so much fun! My Solo Q team mates are competent, I rarely get tunneled! My nerfed perks are working amazingly!".
Why are our experiences like night and day compared to others? I'm not saying they're fibbing or anything, but it's just not what's happening on my end. I honestly don't think I can play with Solo Q in this state anymore. I guess I'll wait for awhile and see if anything gets any better.
I was watching Ohmwrecker stream (he usually plays Solo Q) and he was having the same Clown world experience. So I know I'm not just crazy or that unlucky.
-
Because I'm a masochist and actually got home at a decent time last night I decided to ruin my evening by trying Solo Q again lol. God is it miserable. Played maybe 12 matches and escaped once. The camping and tunneling is at epic levels.
Tried running the oh-so-hyped Off The Record to help, but it's basically useless. A Spirit was easily able to tunnel me off the hook. Tried the nerfed DS along with OTR to see if it would help, didn't even have enough time to hop a window. It's pathetic. I just can't do it anymore.
And I never ran Dead hard. This whole forum narrative from the usual suspects that every survivor sucks because DH was nerfed is just BS.
-
@Sludge said:
I can't believe people thought adding 10 measly seconds to the generators would somehow convince killers to stop running slowdowns.
Then again these are the same people who thought DBD was fair and balanced with old DH.
I think it's more so the Devs proclaimed that Killers felt forced to run slow down perks (they did need them), so they were adding gen time and what not so Killer's could branch out. They tried to sell this patch as the answer to camping, tunneling, and matches going too quickly for Killers. So with extra gen time, buffs to chases, bloodlust, pallet breaking, survivor clutch perks deactivating at end game etc, Killers wouldn't need to sweat.
But it didn't really turn out that way.
-
I actually got home today at a decent time and normally I would log into DBD, but honestly I just can't. I've lost the desire to. I had a decent day and I know playing Solo Q means my matches will be an absurd circus of camping, tunneling, d/c'ing, bad manners, ridiculously stupid matchmaking- I'm sitting here thinking like; " Do I really want to put myself through this??". Don't think I do. It's not as fun anymore. I didn't need some huge escape rate (Solo survivors NEVER had a high escape rate aside from those people on the forums that claim "I'm a Killer main and I just won 30 Solo Q matches in a row!"). But an escape rate next to nothing- sitting on gens forever, just not appealing.
Also, the Devs eliminated a lot of things that made this game fun for Solos due to these perks making SWF disproportionately strong. Things like clutch save and escape using Deliverence and Decisive Strike. I know Killers say "It's a free escape!!". Not really. They would happen to me once in maybe 30 matches? If that? So most matches they'd be used during and not in endgame anyways. The conditions to get to that point in Solo Q were so stringent that when it actually worked it was a high. Now stuff like that is gone. Hatch and keys gone. The incentive to try to make endgame saves entirely obliterated, and they seem to want Solo Q to be more selfish than ever.
I'm sure next patch they will "buff" survivors by deactivating all survivor perks at EGC. Maybe duct tape our legs together and put cow bells around our necks. Don't want Solo's being overpowered afterall.
-
All Wraiths camp.
-
Pyramid Head looks so ripped and in shape standing next to Bubba lol.
-
I think they'll gift wrap doing next to nothing for Solo Q in lies that "they are acknowledging the issues".
Then pat themselves on the back for a job well done and release some Uggs for Feng.
Or else, start promo'ing "The NeXt KiLLeR!!" in hopes that everyone will forget and shut up lol.
-
I had a team mate d/c, next survivor killed themselves on the first hook, and the Killer (Wraith) slugged the other survivor.
I'm just like, dude. Why? Why not farm a bit ffs? We all got screwed (Killer included). And he just cloaked and waited by the slug. As if I can't hear congested Pug noises and see his squiggle (also, my team mate was indicated 'no' as well. Bless that Kate). But he just camped her. When she finally bled out, of course the hatch spawned somewhere close to him and he slammed it shut. When he finally caught up with me, he slugged me, and proceeded to ring his bell constantly for the entire bleed out timer. Probably hoping I would disconnect.
I can't wait until school is back in.

Yes, Literally right here. "It's not about winning or loosing, it's about sending a message." https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3084886#Comment_3084886
I've even had this before where Survivors ran at me, I hooked them, they offed themselves on first hook. I asked "What was that about?" and the response I got was "Can't do ######### without the the old perks, so might as well just gives the Killers and the developers what they want. More kills."
Your link is to one forumer that surmised "it's about sending a message". The rest, anecdotal.
If there was a thread on Reddit where there was an organized effort to inflate Kills, I'd change my mind. But as it is, there's zero evidence anything on that sort of scale is happening. It's more likely genuine frustration, getting camped/tunneled constantly, some who are just being idiots, and in general, just a lot of upset people not giving a crap anymore.
I'm not saying the latter is good, but it's different than an organized effort by a large portion of the playerbase, yanno?

MMR does suck, but that was true before, and there are some valid concerns. That doesn't mean what I said is also not true. I didn't bring up a hive mind nor said it was all survivors.
If you truly believe enough survivors are taking hours out of their day to purposely log into a game and throw match after match, and you believe they are doing it an organized quantity that would actually inflate Kill rates- idk what to tell you. I just can't see it personally. This whole idea was invented here on the forum and is spreading like paranoia with no evidence to back it up (at least none that I know of).
Is there evidence that survivors en masse have organized to inflate Kill rates over random Solo players being genuinely frustrated and just giving up? Maybe I missed it.
-

A lot of survivors are upset they got nerfed and throwing games. Some are just upset and ragequit, some are actively trying to inflate the kill rates so that the devs see a reason to revert the changes.

But you said you escaped 13 times in a row. So which is it?
I think they meant they play a 2 man SWF and have 2 Solos fill the gaps for their games.
Playing with a friend (even just one) adds a greater chance to the match. I have a friend that plays every once in awhile and those games are way more enjoyable and go further than queuing alone. Even just my friend saying to me; "I'm being camped. It's Wraith he's just stealthed by the hook". Huge difference.
Unfortunately we have busy schedules and can't play together often.

I lived in Japan for a few years for work. Every English teacher I met had to have a university degree to get a decent job. A teaching degree was the gold standard.
People who had no university degree but were just native english speakers could scarcely find decent work, and usually couldn't get a working Visa as companies wanted the degree to sponsor them. Idk, maybe things have changed since then.

Same. I just stopped playing. Last time I logged in was Sunday morning and due to all the camping/tunneling at 5 gens- d/c's, hook-suicides etc I never escaped. It was abysmal. Now I'm stuck in low MMR Hell with true potato team mates (not their fault, they're new), but Idk if I have the strength and patience to crawl out of that pit when it's such a losing, uphill battle.
They've just taken out every conceivable way to escape this year unless you have a perfectly matched team. They trashed a lot of the aspects I found exciting /engaging (as a Solo survivor and no, I never used Dead Hard). They've completely discouraged altruism in end game (and at times, mid-game, AND with the entire SBMM system valuing escapes over everything regardless of how they happened) so that Solo Q really feels like every man for himself. It just sucks to realize that when I load into a match, I really have no hope of escape. I just think; "What kind of shite behaviour will ruin this match?".

If a survivor is going down so quickly to an M1 killer that they can just facecamp the hook and win, the survivor just needs to play better. That's all there is to it. If the chases are that much of a pushover the killer would win no matter what they did

You are only able to easily camp a 4k if the survivors allow it. You can easily beat survivors with any strategy if they are playing poorly.
Survivors don't spawn on the hook, the killer has to earn the down.
Especially with the meta being shaken to the point where no perk is really required anymore; kindred has always been an option for solo Q players
Oh, come on. It's easy as a stealth Killer, or a Killer using Insidious to basement camp Solo survivors. It's stupid. Everyone in that match including the Killer came away with absolute crap Blood points. It was a waste of time.

Real quick just popping in to comment, obviously I don't think this is the killer mentality, I was over exaggerating, it was just a comment on how some of the killers are thinking that DH was the only perk survivors were upset about, or if there was a thread that didn't even have to do with the perk, it clearly had "undertones" they were secretly seething with rage that dead hard was gone.
Also, don't worry I know for a fact that survivors can be just as bad, I used to be one of those survivors when I first started playing the game, but I've matured since then and I am no longer one of those people who think there are God at the game because they can teabag.
Everyone with a baseline level of intelligence knows that there are poor actors on both sides. However, I've personally seen like, a zillion comments, even profile blurbs on "Cry moar entitled survivors now your Dead hard crutch is gone AND i SHALL SEEK MY REVENGE".
" But I never ran DH".
"Liiieeesssssssss".
It's not "Killer mentality", it's jackass mentality. One held by immature jackasses. Same with survivors who are in some kind of SWF on comms and taunt the Killer in post-match chat; "Hurrrr GG EZ lulz".
Jackasses.
Idk, I feel like we shouldn't have to preface every thread with a huge disclaimer "I know this isn't *all ___________***", but I've always has too much faith in others.... lol.

These aren't hackers. There are your typical cheating waste of carbon.
Side note : there isn't much money to be made as a "hacker" though, legally I mean.
Well they're using cheats that someone obviously figured out, right?
But yeah. I know there are no legal ways for hackers to make money. There are lots of illegal ways tho (before the post memory hole, Mods. I'm not condoning it or saying it's a good thing- )

And for me it would be survs standing at the gates for no reason other than to waste time, that's their hurrr killer is bad look you cannot getz me hur hur hur dur.
I was responding to this mentality from the OP; ""Yep, keep crying cuz your precious DH is gone, gg ez bozo!""
Survivors waiting at the gate to click and taunt are equally dumb.

I miss that horse.

The new Prestige system is horrible. So many bloodpoints wasted for such crap. Before when prestiging, you got offered better items on the Blood web and less brown trash.
Now you get brown trash for 25 levels until you see a decent item or two, but you hit 50 and get to do it all over again wading through useless item after useless item. Before, you just needed to prestige 3 times to get the bloody clothes cosmetics, now you have to prestige 6 times for them.
It's actually a longer, more tedious grind (and they took away Blood point bonuses of BBQ and WGLF), they just gift-wrapped it in lies like usual lol.

It's at Prestige 4, 5, 6.

My Solo Q matches have also been absolute crap since the patch. I stopped playing on the weekend. The camping and tunneling was brutal. Loads of matches with Eruption, CoB, Thana etc. so often the team barely got a gen done. Had a match against a Legion that took 32 minutes (we all died. Dude just kept injuring and wearing us down). People started to kill themselves on the hook or d/c when camped or immediately downed (tunneled right off the hook).
Had a match with a camping Ghostface (hook survivor, crouch behind rock, expose unhooker, down both)- both of them disconnected. So what does he do? Finds the next survivor and plays slug lord. We got each other up under his nose a few times, but eventually slugged us both and we both died on our first hook. Then he sent me a message "LOL GG WP!". His profile (console) had a large blurb about "entitled survivors can cry at me all they like".
So completely mentally healthy.
WIth matches like these, and never escaping, my MMR has gone so low that I'm with noobs. So I logged in on Sunday morning (last time I played, I'll wait to see if they fix this crap), was against a Nemesis who couldn't catch me. When in close proximity he couldnt hit me (I could 360 some what). He chased me through 3 gens, I pallet slammed him like, 3 times, and when he finally did hit me I run Overcome, so I zipped off and he disconnected. And I don't blame him. He was probably really new, but so many mid-tier players have sunk in MMR Hell that now new Killers are being matched with survivors way above their skill/experience level.
It's kind of a mess.

Yes. People have been talking about hackers being worse since the patch. I wanted to draw attention to it and say thanks to the Deathslinger that was chill about it and refused to kill me.
lol thx.
Yeah I've already encountered a flying Blight that (Prestige 100) slugged everyone on the map in 20 seconds.
Don't really know the appeal of that. If I were a hacker I'd be working on something lucrative, but different strokes for different folks I guess.
