I agree with you totally. Very well thought out post, you put the argument across really well.
Firstly I need to clarify that this isn’t a co-ordinated campaign to get killers nerfed. I know it looks bad after Spirit and Nurse got hit but the DBD community is not a hive mind we all have our own opinions. I was actually defending Spirit before her nerf on other websites however I’ve always thought Billy needed a nerf. As for Nurse I was in the camp that would have been happy if they just tweaked her add ons. People that wanted Spirit and Nurse nerfed aren’t always the people that want Hillbilly nerfed.
As you say Hillbilly is probably the easiest to use out of all the strongest killers. He has too much strength for how easy he is to use. Nurse takes practise and Spirit is slow, Hillbilly is a bog standard killer so lag and bloodlust mean even if the player isn’t a pro he should still be able to do relatively well. Add to that his extreme mobility and camping potential.
I’m glad you mentioned he has the potential to be the strongest. It’s that potential that is the problem. Hillbilly can put a survivor into the dying state faster than anyone else in the game. Will he always do it? No, but it happens more frequently than you think. Just zoom over to a survivor, catch them out of position and then instadown. The fact that a killer can have a survivor on the floor 15-20 seconds into the game is absolutely ridiculous.
His snowball potential is too high and too frequent too. He has no cooldown on his mobility or instadown. So at a moments notice he can instadown one survivor, sprint across the map and then instadown another and suddenly the survivor team is in a lot of trouble. These kind of situations happen far more with Hillbilly than any other killer.
Theres no respite in a Hillbilly game. He zooms on top of you within seconds and you better pray you’re next to a pallet otherwise you’re going down. Then he just swings and swings and swings that instadown until he hits you because theres barely any punishment to missing it. If you manage to make distance he just chainsaw sprints back to you and then its swing, swing, swing with the chainsaw again. There’s no break for the entire game.
Oni was a much better design. He zooms around the map slugging survivors and building pressure like Hillbilly.....but then he goes on cooldown, and it buys the survivors a chance to make a counter attack. Theres a better flow there.
Hillbilly needs something so that he cant zoom anywhere he wants with no cooldown and then just keep swinging the chainsaw until he hits someone. Either give him a stamina meter or something so he cant go from one side of the map to the other and then immediately back again, or give him more of a penalty for chainsaw misses or slow him down a bit while charging like Leatherface.

Considering Ruin only ever lasted about 30-60 seconds for me the gen speeds feel pretty much the same.

they also posted, TO NOT DRAW ANY CONCLUSIONS FROM THOSE STATS, for example FROM THOSE STATS, nurse is the worst killer. is that true? NO
so just like your entire post, THOSE STATS ARE MEANINGLESS
Everytime they have talked about killers....they have indicated that killers for the most part are doing fine.
Just look at the other day, when everyone asked for pig buff and we were told shes doing fine. They are using more than just one silly graph ffs
If you think the majority of the roster was severely underpowered and struggling to get kills do you not think they would have done something by now? considering the “SURIVOVZ OP DEVS HATE KILLERS” myth has been running now year after year after year.
I mean just look at the posts in this forum. Straight up conspiracy theories about how the entire development team hates killers and sits there scheming of ways to hurt them. Or how a strong killer gets a few little tweaks and suddenly its doom and gloom and now there are no killers worth left using anymore.
Its sad. It comes across as so entitled.
I dont get why you all have this “us vs them” mentality either. I would bet a large chunk of the playerbase participates in both roles.
-
Oh brother..
Ok killers are getting genrushed in 3 mins every game and the devs did it partly just to rake in survivor cosmetic money and partly because they like to troll killer players.
That seems to be all thats ever posted on here. It MUST be true!
-
Can’t say I disagree. Here is the way I see it...
Killers powers are weak. You need add ons to make them good. Grey for slight increase, yellow for decent, green for good, leading into Strong or OP or purple/red.
Going with that design on survivors...
Healing feels a little slow in my opinion. Especially if the killer is running sloppy. A med kit is a nice luxury to have. Just like Killer powers, you’ll want something to speed them up a little bit otherwise base power (or in this case base healing) feels a little weak.
However at no point has gen speed ever felt too slow. Toolboxes aren’t really needed, especially not the stronger ones.
-
I disagree. Killers still win enough games for it to not be an issue.
Just rework some maps.
-
@MegaWaffle said:
"People need to stop saying X because my experience proves Y"
Regardless of the experience YOU have it is not indicative of the picture at large.
Oh the irony.
Thats all that killer mains are doing right now. Complaining about gen times because they cant win games.
I have stats to back up my arguments thats the difference.
@Warcrafter4 But killers were complaining gens were too fast at the time those stats were released. They were way off then, nothing to say they arent way off now.
Besides the devs have commented on here that they predict there wont be much difference. Do you really think they would have changed the perk if they thought it would severely unbalance the game?
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I agree, but I think that's a separate problem altogether. It's a chicken and egg thing. Are gen times fine because so many survivors are suboptimal, or are so many survivors suboptimal because the acceptable floor is so low? And should the accepted standard be the skill floor relative to rank, or closer to good play?
Now that is a much more interesting question.
Right now in most games we aren’t even close to getting an escape. However with new rank reset these red ranks genuinely play like green ranks, no exaggeration.
The red ranks of old rank reset were a different beast, though the stats say killer was performing just as well.
You are right though it is a chicken and egg scenario.
-
@Warcrafter4 said:
- You claim stats say killer is performing ok so please show us.
- This entire thread is based on personal experience which everyone has differently.
With the way match making is its impossible to tell what is the "average" experience sense "Rainbow" matches or matches vs people over 10 ranks higher then you are a thing right now.
Also everyone who says they get gen rushed by people ten ranks higher then them with proof have more valid statements then this.
The devs have posted the stats themselves and I’ve seen them post on here that every killer is getting at least 2 kills on average.
I just had a game with purple ranks who got butchered by a green rank. These survivors were just going down constantly and often times together. It was only when the killer chased me that it bought them time to recover and get some work done. That isn’t the exception - its the norm for these games, but you don’t hear me complaining about how hard it is to win.
Ask Peanits or Almo about the stats. Have you not even read anything they have been explaining recently?

Exactly this. As a killer main, this collective survivor mindset that some invisible rule book should dictate how we play is not only ridiculous, nonsensical BS, but absolutely infuriating to deal with. The fact that there are survivors that are willing to DC because ' the killer is playing nice ' needs to be stopped. Ruin should have been kept the same, totem spawns needed to be reworked to better hide them, and new offerings should be introduced to camouflage them better.
Part of pressure is slowing the beneficial mechanics for survivors down to force their hand. What everyone seems to be forgetting is that the Killer is essentially HUNTING. A good hunter doesn't ignore prey they've weakened or injured to start hunting new, healthy prey that has a better chance to escape. The concept of that being labeled as fair is ludacris.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1019128#Comment_1019128
Survivors absolutely need to improve. This mindset that a killer needs to be 'fair' is one the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. You are literally playing a game where murderous, and even monstrous killers are hunting people down. Hunters don't let weakened, injured prey get away just because a newer, healthy prey comes along to assist or see what's happening. Not unless they're trophy hunters. The only trophies in this game are BP and Rank, both of which a killer loses if they let players go. Standing next to a hook isn't smart. Standing back while watching, using Insidious and springing on a survivor that sneaks in to attempt a rescue is a viable strategy hunters like to call setting a trap. The second you end up on a hook, you become bait. Period. Whether it's to lure another survivor to attack, to use as an opening to track that survivor to others once they're freed, it's ALWAYS a trap. Hooking a survivor and moving away, only to ignore the injured draws out the game, making it easier for them to fix gens and get out. In short, it's stupid. Tool boxes and flashlights need reworked to better suit purpose, DCs need punished or removed from the game completely, and survivors need to stop demanding killers be weakened. Asking that a terrifying supernatural killer be put on the same level as a regular person is asinine. Watch the movies that inspired these killers and the original killers concepts. Survivors were ment to have the deck stacked against them. It's why there's only one killer vs four survivors. You get better without taking the game hostage via threatening DC, whining for buffs to perks that you haven't/don't want to figure out how to use to your benefit, or asking that perks and abilities you'd expect a supernatural killer to possess be limited because you lack the skill or ability to figure out how to best it. You don't get better by asking they lower the difficulty of the experience you're playing this game to receive. You chose the role of survivor. It's not ment to be easy. Deal with it, or don't play games like this.
So basically you want the game to be designed in a way that heavily favours the killer.
But you forget it’s not a horror movie, it’s a videogame. Nobody is going to play if they don’t have a fair chance of winning or balance.
Too many people want this game balanced around the 4k. That would make it pointless to play survivor or killer.
-
Ease of play in terms of winning goes like this imo...
SWF -> Killer -> Solo survivor
-
@thesuicidefox said:
The only reason Spirit feels easy is because 95% of survivors go full potato against her. It doesn't matter the rank either. They just make stupid decision after stupid decision. Get someone in that 5% I guarantee you will change your tune. She's not actually as easy as you think. You are getting false positives because majority of survivors don't know what to do against her.
I’m glad somebody else sees it.
When I play Spirit I often see Nea plays just sit on the other side of the pallet....as if they think if they wait long enough Spirit will just go away.
A lot of playing against M1 killers is reacting to what they do. With Spirit and Nurse you need to predict what they’re going to do. I think people struggle with this part.

Finally something we can agree on. This person has been going on and on about Freddy and Billy being OP. As Mcote says - "That's an opinion..."
It actually confuses me how anyone who claims to be good can think either of them are OP.
"Oh! Ruin is finally gone! Better go after the killers with gen pressure!"
When did I say Freddy was OP? Or needed a nerf? All I said about Freddy was that one specific build isn’t fun to play against.
Many people say Billy is OP.
-
Because Rancor specifies all the gens need to be completed. Also Rancor working on hatch would render the yellow mori pointless.
-
Killers were tunnelling on a mass scale before the change anyway.
I’ve been playing solo survivor and killers seem to be doing just fine. I don’t think the lack of Ruin has changed all that much.
I notice good players are winning games. They lose gens early but stall the game later - which is exactly what one of the devs on here said the design of the game should be.
Meanwhile its the killers that sit around hooks waiting to tunnel or commit to 5 gen chases that are getting genrushed to oblivion.
So really it seems to be restoring balance and less experienced players aren’t being boosted by Ruin right now.
That said they need to fix the matchmaking. A lot of killer problems can be put down to them playing people that are far higher ranks.

It does specifically say "by any means". I'm not sure how they could reword it to be clearer than that, short of listing every single valid kill type.
I always assumed that meant mori, rancor, devour hope, tombstone etc
It was the word "kill" that I associated with the dailies. As Aven_Fallen said though I guess the "by your hands" part is what separates it.
Oh well glad to see I'm not the only one that has misinterpreted it.

Clown. Nostalgic and legit one of the best.
In terms of actual best, probably Demogorgan.

@Gibberish said:
You can kill with sacrifice and it still counts towards the challenge, dude.
You dont need to use Mori/D.Hope/Rancor.
I thought it had to be actual kills as well.
Maybe it needs to be reworded. Seems a number of people are reading it as kills because the number of moris going around since the rift started has increased drastically.
-
Ruin - yes
Huntress Lullaby - Not until 1st hook
Devour Hope - I’d like to say not until 1st hook but given the power of this perk its best that it stays lit
Third seal - Not until 1st hit
Haunted grounds - yes obviously
Thrill of the hunt - yes
NOED - Shouldn’t exist
So really there’s only 2 perks that should be unlit until active, and nobody really uses third seal anyway.
Totems are pretty much fine now then. They just need totem spots updated on the old map. Crotus penn is notoriously bad. Then maybe huntress liable could become a viable perk.
-
Try being survivor and waiting 6 mins just to join a game where your teammates are either AFK, play like complete idiots just clicking flashlights at the killer, or trolls who try to farm and sandbag you.
-
I find Wraith can be add on and map dependent. Ideally on wraith I use faster running speed and faster uncloak, though silent bell and global bell can be useful too.
Wraith can be really strong on indoor maps with the right add ons but I find Azarov maps can be quite poor for him due to clear line of sight and pallets aplenty.
I don’t have much experience with Plague but she is a killer I would like to put more time into. Previously I was trying to puke them fully into broken state and then down them and using thana and dying light to punish not cleansing. I performed pretty poorly. Especially if Ruin went early.
Now I’ve switched to a style where you use Corrupt to shrink the map, get everyone sick as soon as possible, just a blob will do and let it work over time. Then when they’re broken you pick them off with monitor and abuse which allows you to get closer. This style is much stronger on her and I’m having good results. You toy with them early game and pick them off late game. I’d like to unlock blood echoes to stop dead hard allowing them free pallets too
-
This is why I hated the old rank reset. If you didn’t grind every month then you’d be stuck in ranks where killers never leave hooks, tunnel the first survivor caught only, and all would rely on NOED. The survivors acted like they were allergic to generators.
Unfortunately new rank reset has been as good as I expected. I thought it would keep me in good ranks so I could enjoy the game, however ehat has happened is that the green ranks make it to purple ranks, then the next month they make it to red ranks, and now rank reset is keeping them there.
There’s virtually no difference now between red ranks and what green ranks used to be. Survivors are just as potato and killers never leave hooks.
I’d love to know where all the good players have gone, both killers and survivors.
-
He feels useable now.
Previously if I thought I was going to be up against a hard team Doctor would be at the bottom of the pile when it comes to killers I would use against them. Now I feel like I could pick him and not want to curl up and cry lol
-
That’s why I stopped using NOED a long time ago. It never felt rewarding or like I outplayed the opponents. The kills just felt like freebies.
I fee more like I outplayed them with mindgames at loops. That’s probably why I find the weaker killers more fun ironically. Its harder to get a hit with a standard killer than say Spirit, Freddy or Hag who all have ways to either teleport or slow the survivor

I am sorry that I am "low effort" to not be able to physically reach from one point to another on the map while 2 gens are done, I am sorry that not everybody is a flying blanket with a sock on their head or a blue crazy hoover that can have mobility, in fact most killers lack the mobility and some require setup, hag and trapper, by the time they set up on big maps, gens are done, yeah, "low effort", "easy option".
I hope that you are enjoying us doing the killer's objective after all, killing all the survivors as soon as possible whether that is being done through camping or tunelling
Corrupt Intervention?
It’s great on Hag. I haven’t tried it myself on Trapper yet but a lot of people report it as great on him too.
It shrinks the map for you early game stopping survivors from having a head start and makes it easier to have built up a bit of pressure by the time its worn off.
-
In fairness I wouldn’t say it’s milking.
Some of the dlc for this game is ancient. Spirit came out about 16 months ago and most of the dlc for this game is often on sale for dirt cheap.
If it was a new killer you needed like Oni or Demogorgan then yeah I could understand but its not like DBD is one of those games that expects you to buy $30 dlc to make progress.
-
I agree. It’s interesting to see the good players are doing just fine and the ones that sit around the hook waiting for the tunnel and eating through DS are getting genrushed into oblivion. Coincidentally these are the ones that all switched to NOED.
-
I play a lot of survivor and the only perk that tilts me is NOED. Every thing else is fair game.

Ah ok sorry I misread.
I don’t think killers would care about 2 gens being affected by Ruin, probably not 4 either because they complain about Corrupt intervention and that fully blocks off 3.

I never used Ruin but I always thought it affected all gens on the map
It used to affect 2/3/4 survivors at each tier as your post suggests but some time in 2019 it was changed to affect all survivors and just regress 3/4/5%.
Looking at the wiki it was the 2.6.0 patch so that’s the Plague dlc.
-
Thats how it used to be, but at tier 3 which most people have its still old Ruin which they don’t want.

Not that I'm saying i will do this but
Haven't the Devs said a few times before Tunneling/face camping is a valid strat? So is slugging. If its valid is it really toxic?
If you’re doing it just to annoy other players and ruin the game for them in a premeditated move to attack the game and developers for an ulterior motive then its a little bit different.
Sure nobody in the game can prove your doing it for that reason but calling for it and explicitly stating it in a public forum proves it is a premeditated attack
-
Hillbilly - Biggest payoff for least amount of skill. Not saying skill doesn’t come into it but he doesn’t require as much as say Nurse or Spirit who are also high tier.
People say Spirit is easy but you see so many low ranks struggle to play her. They struggle with her power as they aren’t experienced enough to predict survivor routing and movement (its not just about sound), and everytime they mess up it hits their confidence so they use her power less which means they’re just chasing you as a 110% killer. On top of that their entire act is to fake a phasewalk, then maybe walk to the other side and try to hit the survivor. Its the most basic play as Spirit and works against low rank survivors but as a good survivor this makes Spirits next move easy to predict.
How many times do you read online on game forums, youtube, twitter etc (how do I play spirit?) you see it a lot because she’s not easy to pick up for new players.
With Hillbilly its different. Even if someone sucks with the chainsaw timing and cant get hits with it he can still fall back on the fact that Billy is 115% speed and so bloodlust will eventually get him the M1 hit, and he can still fall back on Hillbillys extreme mobility or camp a hook with his chainsaw.
Then when they do learn to play him you get unlimited double speed and instadowns on demand.

She does well in red ranks as well. We released stats for all killers a little while ago, if you'd like to take a look: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/106566/
Old Doc was doing ok too surprisingly.
Is there a reason why your stats always look so different to player experience?
Everybody knows Spirit, Freddy and Hillbilly etc are strong and expect them to be performing strongly.
Then there’s this perception, tier lists etc that you end up with Wraith, Doc, Pig etc on the bottom. There’s generally a consistency among tier lists and the general consensus of players.
However you guys put out the stats and everybody takes a back step and wonders “#########?”. “THIS killer is performing far better than THAT killer?”
I wonder why theres such a discrepancy. Sure Nurse and Huntress can be put down to being harder to play but I thought old Doc was useless and I would have expected a number of killers to outperform him.

You don't 2-pip as often, but you almost never de-pip or even black-pip. Killers easily rank up to 12 and then start to get a little more challenging. Survivors take a little while to rank up to 12 because a win most of the time is 1-pip but after that the difference between pip requirements for Survivor and Killer gets really big. In the Red ranks with the highest requirements to pip up Killers need 14/15 to pip and 16 to 2 pip (haven't played in a while so my memory isn't that fresh) which translates to nothing less than gold and at least one iridescent emblem, as for Survivors you can get one silver (Die in a Trial after some amount of minutes, I guess is 7 minutes) and still pip up.
Yeah thats what I was saying, that with the current ranking killers boost out of low ranks, while survivors move slowly.

Clicky we have been down this road before and what your saying is factually wrong.
The reach rank 10 survivor achievement is twice as common then the killer reach rank 10 killer.
And yet rank 1 killers used to have to wait ages because they ranked up faster than survivors, event though at the time they were all saying “sUrvIvoR iZ 2 ez to RaNk up”.
Killer mains often have a bias that stops them from seeing the big picture.
As killer you can 2p almost every game at low ranks because its so easy. As survivor its harder to 2 pip because that depends on new killers being able to get hooks, pressure the map, not camp etc
Things can turn around at red ranks but at low ranks from 10-16 as he mentioned it is far easier to rank up as killer
-

I already mentioned it in another topic... There's a very simple solution for all this Buff/Nerf discussions... REMOVE all perks from Killers/Survivors, and then let's see what happens, because I am pretty sure, then survivor will get mad without BT, DS, or all his bullshit they can take into the Match, because most of Perks of Killers just feel useless.... Totems which do spawn 1 meter off a Gen is pointless.... It requires no skill as survivor to rank up, as Killer it's a real struggle to get at least 1 pip-up... Why I do say that? Because I ONLY played killer main until the matchmaking matched me only with red ranks being a rank 16 Killer, then I switched to survivor, leveled some of them to unlock all the op perks, and actually I am a rank 10 survivor playing as unexpirienced Noob survivor, thx to all these bullshit perks they got. Thx BHVR
It’s factually easier to rank up as killer between ranks 16-10 than it is as survivor. Most killers will 2 pip in those games, whereas survivor all depends on killer ability.
Its normally red ranks where things start to change because survivors get solid teammates and killers get solid opponents....however I think the new rank reset is changing that.
I understand your frustrations but as you get more experienced with the game you may see things in a different light.

Again with the "survs aren't good so balance for the potatoes". Maybe they should just get good.
Its always “survivors need to get good”
and they do
but a lot of killers aren’t that good either. Why do they never need to get good? We’ve had complaints in here previously about killers being genrushed in 3 minutes or being looped for 5 gens. Why do killers never need to get good?
Ironic when you all say its survivors that want to be coddled.
-
I love how with NOED its always the survivors fault. “Just cleanse totems”.
Yeah because adding what is essentially an extra generators worth of time to stop the killer from whizzing about with unlimited instadowns at a time when when there are very few pallets left on the map is a reasonable counter.
However when a killer complains about DS, advise them to stop tunneling and its like you’ve asked them to do the impossible.
-
A good percentage of killers played like that before the Ruin change anyway. Many would still play like that if old Ruin came back and lasted all game. Its the easy way to play, less effort required.

wow... maybe u can become the next writer for patch notes, so damn biased u write.
Even with 6 hooks, my fastest match ended after 5:15 minutes. No one brought a toolbox or so, no prove thyself. The guys were just really optimal, and the maps are ridicilous large.Btw, the crutch perk lasted till the end, no one cleansed it.
I just dont get the point u r trying to make: camping a survivor results in all gens done. Tunneling is the same, cause, of curse at red ranks, at least one survivor has DS (and i´m damn sure, this perk is used by more than 80% of the players at red ranks). So, waisting 60 seconds to stand next to him and wait till the (possible) DS is over? Once again, gens are popping.
Of course, if people can´t hit a "skill" check, are too stupid to tap the gens or walk around the map sightseeing, ruin was annoying.
After 3k hours playing 70/30 killer - survivor u can believe me, i didnt needed ruin to win a game. I needed it to be able to play fair. Actually i also 3-4 k most times, but i dont think it´s fun, getting slugged and be most time of the match on the ground.
Last sentence to NOED: it´s a bs perk for people, who cant play the picked killer properly.
Maybe try and play killer, actually, and record a VOD: Wanna see, how u pressure 4 survivors at Mothers Dwelling, where the first gen is nearly done, when u are there.
Ruin bought people more time to camp and tunnel thats a fact. Whether it was 30 seconds or 5 minutes it was extra time the killer could use to camp/tunnel a survivor. Many players took advantage of this. Say what you want about WHY Ruin worked bad survivors etc but the fact is it did work. It did slow buy the killer more time.
I’ve been playing solo and seeing plenty of killers winning games. The average survivor just isn’t that good.
-
The Ruin change is great for the game.
Before you saw so many people pick a top tier killer, they’d bring Ruin to slow the game down and buy them enough time to camp and tunnel survivors out of the game. If you got past all that they’d have NOED as a back up. People were getting 4ks with minimal effort.
Now if someone sits around hooks they’re much more likely to get genrushed. Sure they can still fall back on NOED but it hands more of a punishment to crappy players and will hopefully push them down the ranks a bit more.
-
I want Hallowed Blight 2: The Blightening.
-
As much as I would love to see Clown given a few tweaks and new tricks I really feel like the next update has to be Legion. Everyone hates playing against him. He sucks the fun out of the game.
-
Its a totally different kind of perk. You can’t just throw it on and forget, but with certain builds and playstyles it can be really strong.
Basically if you want to get creative and can play well it will be strong. If you’re just looking for an ez perk to buy you free gen slowdown then it’s useless.
I can’t wait until someone like Otzdarva puts out some great builds with it.

I'm not the one claiming bad players means the other side is favoured. I can mathematically break down how the game is survivor favoured and killers are reliant on survs to make many mistakes to even have a chance.
You say bad players.....but these are your average survivors. This is what survivors are.
I dont get why people assume they’re going against depip squadettes every game.
