  • There's nothing wrong with BBQ. It's a great perk. It's not OP and encourages killers not to camp/tunnel.

I would assume the reason it has aura reading AND bonus BP is because the two are related. You get a token for each individual survivor hooked. So the game is basically saying "Look here are the other survivors, go and chase one of them rather than camping this guy and I'll give you bonus BP".

I don't get why some survivors complain about this. It's ideal. I've rather have the killer come chase me than camp/tunnel the poor guy on the hook. It also helps keep the game pace moving along.

WLGF could use something extra sure but that doesn't mean BBQ needs to be changed.

  • I would say Clown because he's underused and one of my favs.

Bubba if you don't have BBQ and dont want to wait for it on the shrine. The BP bonus helps with the grind.

Generally I would say Myers though. Most people seem to enjoy him.

This is true. I'm rank 4 survivor but only cuz I play a lot. I'm actually quite terrible, and I'm fine with that, but I know it messes up matches for other players who actually belong in red ranks.

It's ok, a lot of the green rank killers are now in red ranks too. Yay for standing around hooks and tunneling.

It's a shame because I haven't seen any genuine red rank killers in a long time. The Huntress players used to be so impressive, they'd get hits on you in areas you never thought possible.

I've seen you on the other post about Ghostie

You're speaking for most people in all of your posts regarding Ghostie when in reality you're just speaking from your own experience.

You do not speak for most people, and just because you have been slugged and camped by Ghostie, doesn't make it widely applicable. Another can say the exact opposite.

Many people seem to agree hes the campiest of all killers. Even Leatherface mains are shocked.

Jokes aside though the reason hooked and slugged survivors can reveal him is precisely because of this. The devs said it themselves. Its to stop him camping.

Removing that would just buff his camping anility which isn’t fun for anyone. I dont see why he needs that anyway, you hook the survivor, walk away and then activate night shroud. If you arent hanging around the hook then you dont need to worry about that survivor revealing you

Doing bones gets rid of the perk. And if you complain about a killer being able to one shot a survivor while moving a little faster, I am surprised more people don’t complain about Hill billy, Huntress, Leatherface, Plague, and Ghostface. They all have the ability to one shot a survivor, some conditions must be met but it’s always less conditions than NOED.

My rule to never die to NOED is always assume the killer has it. If you do, you play safer, be stealthy, and maybe running directly to an exit that the killer is definitely headed towards isn’t a good idea.

Its almost like the perk is trying to make survivors use their brains a little and make killers a bit more threatening so survivors might actually fear them for a bit instead of T bagging them to only stab them in the back because the killer “tunneled”

My deal is if you want the “No skill ez free kill” perk gone, I want the “you can’t hook me for 60 seconds and there isn’t anything you can do about it” perk gone.

Its funny because if NOED went which is arguable skewing the games stats killers would be far better off in the longrun yet their so desperate to keep the crutch they can’t see that far ahead.

DS is a necessary evil at the moment due to rampant tunneling hurting the experience for kost players.

Doing totems would be fine if the game rewarded enough points for it however you wont pip if you run around doing all 5. If you’re the guy who cleanses all 5 while others do the gens then dont expect to pip.

if also argue needing to cleanse 5 totems which is basically like an extra generator in terms of time just to avoid a super speed killer with unlimited instadowns is perhaps a little unbalanced but somehow I get the impression I’m wasting my breath here.

    Weak bait.

Thanks for the well thought out response.

    How exactly is it bait?

  • @Blueberry said:

That issue with NOED is just one of many reasons why I kept saying those kills stats are near worthless. Just NOED single handedly skews those numbers hard and makes killers look more deadly than they actually are in terms of balance. There are multiple other factors as well though.

    I'm glad someone agrees.

You are right there are many factors. Such as survivors playing greedy at the end for points, going for unhooks rather than leaving. That can turn a 1k into a 3k easily.

But yeah I see so many games where NOED alone changes a 1k into a 3k. It often grants 2 extra kills on average I feel. You see killers get dominated all game then turn it around with one perk.

I think if NOED went along with Ruin kill rates would plummet but in the long run the game would benefit greatly when proper balance is introduced.

NOED isn't a new addition to the game. If you still haven't learned to do bones, you're still the one being coddled.

It's easy for a team, not so much for solo. If you "do bones", as in all of them solo you miss out on so many points and likely a pip as everyone else gets the gens and unhooks and chases.

Also everyone knows most survivors ignore totems, so many killers have one perk that can easily turn a 1k into a 3k. Yet here you are acting like it's everyone else that's coddled.

Just take NOED and have the EZ win. No skill required.

  • I thought it would be great. I hated having to grind to red ranks every month.

However I notice that skill has gone way down since this happened. Used to be red ranks was mostly good players, now game after game you get people who can't do well in chases, have no game sense, can't work through Ruin etc the red ranks now feel like the green ranks.

  • Oh please, you can still take NOED and crutch a few extra kills at the end without any skill. And you say it's survivors who are being comforted like babies?

  • As much as I think some maps like red forest are too large or Azarov's too long, I'd rather have the coldwind maps changed first and foremost.

Corn is not fun. Not sure if it's because I'm colourblind or what but it's so hard to see survivors in the corn sometimes and you need to strain your eyes.

  • Yes. I've been on a solo survivor binge recently. I notice the chance of us winning in 99% of games directly relates to how long that totem stays up.

No ruin/destroyed instantly = we win (outside of NOED crutch)

Ruin lasts a long time = killer wins

It shouldn't be like this. One perk shouldn't be dictating the outcome of most trials. I'm not going to say gen speeds are perfect but they need some better, more fair and more consistent for both sides than a totem spawn.

The survivors I've been getting aren't great and they can't work through Ruin. I'm always the first to finish a gen. However the killers I go against aren't great and many of them would lose multiple gens in some chases and Ruin really is all thats holding them up and people shouldn't be boosted outside of their league by one perk.

i had a game earlier where I ran the Spirit around the map side to side and then side to side again. Easily a 3 gen chase, easily. However because Ruin was up no gens got done. One was close, other 2 survivors were running around looking for Ruin. This player was not a very good Spirit, and I would guess that in the next game if that totem gets cleansed instantly they will be genrushed to oblivion then they'll go online and complain about gen speeds. I think people have relied on Ruin so much that it convinces them they are better players than they are, and so they find themselves in ranks that are actually too difficult for them.

  • I assume he's joking and probably means "The"

    We could speculate I guess..

    The Tripper. (Trapper's cousin)

Power: Sets up tripwires around the map, ensuring that survivors fall flat on their face as they run around the map completely unaware.

  • "downed and hooked survivors can no longer reveal The Ghost Face"

This is a really bad idea to be honest. Most GF players camp enough as it is. If the hooked/downed survivor could not reveal him then every hook/slug would be more of an ambush than it is now.

  • I would agree with this.

Some killers just slug and slug and slug. They can't find the Blendette so they just drag the game out. At some point just let it go man...

Also sometimes I get 2 survivors disconnecting early game. The killer then slugs for the 4k in a 2 vs 1 game. How is that fair? how can you expect anyone to sit there for 3 minutes and not disconnect and find a new game when they have done nothing wrong?

Just allow the survivor to hold a button to bleed out twice as fast. That way the killer still has time to go looking for the other, they just don't have all day. To make sure killers aren't shorthanded you could even reveal the aura of the survivor that is bleeding out if they choose to bleed out faster.

At some point people can accept the loss and they just want to move on to a new game, not sit around while someone strokes their ego going for the 4k.

  • OoO in a 4 man swf is quite possibly the most broken thing in the entire game. 3 of them get the benefits of OoO with none of the downsides.

  • What I would want mostly for killer to remove frustration is some of the god loops reworked. Ironworks for example requires no skill, can be used an unlimited amount of times throughout the game yet eats up so much time on the killers side.

Rancid abbatoir has a similar window which is blocked off 50% of the time. Why only half the time? it's baffling and makes no sense.

Anyone even a team of rank 20's can use these all game and waste so much of the killers time, or just force the killer to end the chase. This is the biggest source of frustration for me as a killer. It's very archaic and unprofessional design. These kind of loops belong in 2016.

  • @53nation said:

A partial irony of the ruin nerf is that as a new player, you're much more likely to get ghostface every 4th or 5th game. He's that common. GF just absolutely destroys new squads.

Lol this. Everytime I get matched with rank 16s/rank 17s I notice all of them use GF, and sadly they all camp hooks. He seems to be the go-to killer for new players

That must be extremely frustrating for new players.

Hopefully the matchmaking fix comes sooner rather than later

That’s fair but they haven’t buffed weak killers heck in most cases they nerf them (pig) the issue is they nerf perks weak killers needed without compensating and some strong killers didn’t even need/use ruin

Every strong killer I came across used Ruin. Freddy, Billy, Spirit, Nurse etc the only time I saw a killer without Ruin was when that killer didn’t have it due to being low rank.

In fact a number of them would take both Ruin and NOED. They were bad players but those two perks alone carried them quite far.

I agree with you though that low tier killers need a buff. I think shrinking some of the maps and fixing some of the god loops might be a better start but that requires much more work.

I'm sorry are we actually defending this buggy catastrophe of a killer's mechanics just for the sake of avoiding any criticism directed at killers in this game?

Ghostface's reveal doesn't work properly. It's inconsistent. Sometimes you're looking at him with nothing in the way and he gets revealed. Sometimes you can reveal him through walls. Earlier in the patch you could literally stalk people you had no vision of.

But have fun using your eyes. Some clips of you playing and revealing him properly consistently would be a good thing, since we're blatantly ignoring the many hours of footage of GF being buggy.

Sadly its the first one. Some people don’t want killers changed no matter what, even if its a case of a mechanic not working correctly that gives the killer their strength.

I wish people didn’t play sides so much. Freddy is stronger than GF yet aside from the old forever freddy he hasn’t felt nearly as BS or unfun as GF.

I dont get why people can’t separate strength and fun.

GF is literally one of the killers that i follow because i want to take his power away. There is not much more to in this game possible to show that you disrespect a killer so much. That is funny because afterwards you can loop for days like any other 115 killer.

I don't know what bad survivor you are but get good, learn anything or play tetris.

Well thanks for the toxic response.

GF seems quite well hated among the community so I guess we all need to get better and learn what fun is.

  • @Eclipse4598 said:

When was the last time you pipped at red ranks with a 2k? Never? Cool cool so are killers meant to just stay low rank and not pip. Also you main Oni that’s cool one issue tho he’s a high tier killer don’t think many clowns will be pipping now

Why would you pip for a 2k?

The game is balanced around a 2k. It’s designed so that in a killer vs survivor game of equal skill you will get the 2k. A black pip should be what you get. You didn’t do bad, you didn’t do good. You did average.

A pip requires you doing better than expected showing that this isn’t the level for you, you’re a better player and need to be moved to a higher rank as you performed better than was designed.

In that regard the rank system appears to be working.

  • It's the survivor NOED when multiple survivors run it. I agree it spoils the game. You can't do much at endgame if you don't have NOED or aren't using a killer with instadowns. You get 20 seconds before the exit gates are opened to 1) catch up to a survivor after their 5 second speed burst 2) hit them 3) catch up again 4) hit them again.

All that in 20 seconds...across multiple survivors. It's not happening.

  • @Frashu said:

I love the “just be observant” response. Yeah you can hear his cloak flapping in silence. Gen half done and burning barrel with walls around you? Good luck. Lol No amount of turning your camera is gonna take away his ability to get a free hit. My only problem with him is his busted reveal mechanic. But acting like you can counter his stealth by “being observant” is hilarious.

Glad I'm not the only one who finds him almost silent.

Not gonna lie originally it was probably too loud but the new one is almost silent unless as you say he finds you in a completely silent area. The gen alone can drown it out. Not sure if that was part of his buff or if its part of the audio issues in the game. He gets so many gen grabs or instadowns on unaware survivors I've noticed.

"I like them strong with easy hits that the survivor can do little about" That is what stealth killers are meant to do, Tier 1 Myers, GF, get the jump on them, surprise them, "Sounds like Orc mischief to me! They come with fire! They come with axes! Gnawing, biting, breaking, hacking, burning!! Destroyers and usurpers, CURSE THEM!!" If anything, Pig, and Wraith needs some love and attention to do the same, the growl/bell kinda kills it for em. Hell if they gave Ghostface permo stealth and got rid of his ability to expose survivors or made it an add-on I wouldn't care less because jump scaring people is what makes him and Tier 1 Myers so much more fun than Pig or Wraith.

But Myers has a 16m terror radius....like GF was meant to have a 16m warning. When myers is in tier 3, he gets instadowns but you get a 32m radius.

GF has none. Fail to spot him and you're exposed too. It's an awful feeling, especially if he has you at 99% stalk, pops his head around and you're screwed.

  • Ever faced Forever Freddy? or Forever Legion?

That's a part of it. Holding M1 forever isn't very fun. Now that Ruin is changed perhaps they will look at gen times but I feel like in the longterm they would rather try other ways to slow the game down than simply making gentimes longer.

Toolboxes could probably be nerfed for a start though. They really aren't needed anymore.

  • Killer: Hillbilly

Your are the Hillbilly, your are social and energetic, but you lack the care of certain things that arn't your problems, you hold a grudge on someone for a long time if they do something that angers you, it okay though, certain things make you happy!

    Survivor: Feng

A lot of people like Feng as their main. You love attention and popularity (maybe) you are a black sheep in your family tree for your different opinions and hobbies. Not only do you have a dope style of shirts, but you have an excellent sense of humor and ways to make your audience want a popcorn refill!

  • I think DS deactivating after being healed or touching a gen would be interesting. Survivors play so reckless with it now, they lose their fear.

As for NOED, just give solo survivors some indication of when a dull totem is cleansed. If not a counter then at least an on screen sound effect so we can count them. I hate cleansing 4 totems and then going down to NOED anyway. Also the 4% speed boost should go. Many people who aren't very good on Huntress take it on Huntress so that they never need to get good with Huntress due to the movement speed buff. It makes no sense, they'll never get better that way.

You are really understating Ghostface's power, he is actually a very good killer, but that doesn't make him OP

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/998046#Comment_998046

idk ######### you're talking about, old Freddy was a joke to play against, he wasn't threatening in the slightest and most of the things survivors deem to be "scummy" didn't even work with him i.e. face camping, slugging. Ghostface is NOT old freddy, he is in a good spot atm and you need to understand that just because you aren't doing well against him doesn't mean he needs a nerf, it means you should improve as a player rather than beg the devs to make it easier for you

You could try reading what I wrote instead of going on the defensive.

Old Freddy wasn't the strongest yet everyone hated him. Why? because although he was not OP he was not fun to go against due to his power.

I specifically said Ghostface isn't the most OP killer, nor is he straight up overpowered. He just feels cheap and not fun to face. So taking the usual defensive approach of "git gud" really doesn't work.

People know how to play against Ghostface, they just don't like how he plays. In the same way that people knew how to play against old freddy but nobody found him fun to play against.

That said there is ample evidence that at the moment you CAN'T play against Ghostface correctly as half the time you can't even reveal him.

What you typed just comes off as saying "don't nerf my killer, i like them strong with easy hits that the survivor can do little about". Perhaps I should ask for you to try playing other killers and getting better at getting hits so that you don't need a killer with zero terror radius, zero slowdown, and zero attack delay while cloaked.

  • @Archimedes5000 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/998625#Comment_998625

Ghostface is not invisible. Stealth but not invisible. All you have to do is start looking instead of hearing, like with other killers.

2 of the main issues you mentioned are bugs. This means he needs a bugfix, not a rework.

If reveal and sounds worked, you could just look at him from faraway range, and hear if he tries to attack. I disagree with the chase part. His power is supposed to down surviviors quickly if they let you stalk them, just like Shapes super lunge, and ghostface has his stealth. His power depletes quite quickly, so once you notice him you should just loop him.

But at the moment looking does nothing, and again on many maps jungle gyms etc he is guarenteed a free hit because you can not see him coming. Many safe gens have line of sight blockers.

Only on an unsafe gen could you have a chance at seeing him coming, but you need to 360 degree rotate on some as he could come from anywhere. Fail to spot and reveal him within a very short space of time and you're exposed which is a HUGE penalty.

Again I just think he feels cheap.

  • He's good in chases but has poor map pressure so try to bandaid that rather than buffing his chase ability which is fine.

Ruin....err corrupt is good for early game. Stops survivors having a headstart and also shrinks the map giving him more pressure.

PGTW is a life saver in later game.S

Discordance lets you know which gens are being "rushed" so to speak

sloppy buys you more time and slows the survivors down a bit helping pressure.

STBFL is good and can really shorten chases but just shortening chases doesn't always work on the larger maps. You want perks that will slow them down more and offer more map control.

  • sorry for the double post but I forgot to add, OP was right about GF with the camping and tunneling. He's so effective at it that it's the go-to strategy for almost every single Ghostface I've ever faced.

At bare minimum Kindred should trump all killer stealth abilities again. Why give protection to campers?

  • Billy.

He will have my "team" slugged in about 60 seconds. It's very rare I will get put with players good enough to win against a Hillbilly.

  • I completely agree. He is the one killer that really makes me hate playing survivor. I say this as someone who has never had an issue with Spirit, and could tolerate old Nurse too. I don't like Legion either but GF is on a whole other level. What I'm trying to stress is that everyone will have killers they like and dislike but to me GF is so bad he ruins the game.

I'll try to give an in-depth post here to try and put my points across. It's not that Ghostface is overwhelmingly OP, although he is really strong I feel a few killers still have an edge on him however the problem with Ghostface is that he feels "cheap".

So to start with - Old Freddy. Despite people complaining he was weak a lot of people did enjoy playing as old Freddy, myself included. What made him fun? he was completely invisible for a start, survivors never knew exactly where you where. Likewise he had wallhacks basically with the aura reading meaning you could track survivors throughout most of the game. On the survivor side however this is what made him so awful to play against. He wasn't overpowered but he felt cheap. You never got that thrill or rewarding feeling of losing him in a chase because as soon as you stepped outside of terror radius he would see your aura before you even had a chance to wake yourself up. He was a cheap and unfair feeling killer. So although I liked playing AS him, I hated playing AGAINST him and I agree he needed to be reworked.

Ghostface provokes those same feelings. I'll try to break it down into the main points...

    • Lets start with the reveal mechanic. This is so spotty and seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it will work from a mile out without you trying, other times you can be right in front of him and nothing is happening. It doesn't even start to reveal him. More often than not it works in Ghostfaces favour and the survivor has to mess about and spend so long trying to get it to work that by that time Ghostface is either close enough to get a hit because the survivor has run a poor route due to having to stare to hard, or GF has exposed them. I know people say it feels the opposite when playing GF and yes there are some circumstances where you get revealed when behind objects but I've also had situations where I was behind a survivor, they were staring at me and I was staring at them, I'm running after them while stalking, I expose them and they didn't even start to reveal me. I've also had survivors stare at me across pallets and nothing happens. The reveal mechanic is completely busted and is a major source of frustration with Ghostface among players.
    • His power. Wraith sneaks up well but then gives a short ding-dong allowing survivors a brief time to react. Likewise The Pig either roars or has to uncrouch giving survivors some time to react. Ghostface gives none. Not only does he give no warning but he isn't slowed down in any way. He's still fast enough to get hits. Why is he so much more powerful than the other two? well he was designed with the 16m audio warning of his cloak, however that got changed and now there's absolutely zero warning if you don't have line of sight. He is guaranteed that hit. Apparently from the last patch notes he is meant to have an 8m noise but with sounds being so broken I can honestly say I've barely heard any sounds from him in months. In addition to this if you don't notice him in time then you get exposed and instadowned. It seems a little bit powerful for someone who has such strong stealth. That's normally how games start with him. Everyone is on a gen, you notice the exposed status appear on one survivor icon then they're downed. Being picked off and instadowned at the start of the game feels very unfair and very cheap and it's not surprising that most survivors disconnect against him.
    • In chases. The game was designed around the killer having a red stain and terror radius. Good killers learned that part of being a good player was to hide that red stain and mindgame. Ghostface doesn't have to do any of this. You just tap M2 mid chase at a jungle gym and the survivor has absolutely no warning of where you are or where you're looking. There's no skill involved and it's often just a free hit for Ghostface.

However is Ghostface fun to play? yes he is. His stealth is second to none. Survivors never see you coming. Combine that with Nurse's calling and you can pick survivors off when they're trying to heal. Likewise you get to stalk them and they either can't do anything to stop you, or to stop his stalk they have to try so hard that they end up running into walls and you get a free hit anyway. So like my point about old Freddy, it's the exploitative nature of Ghostface that makes him fun to use but it's also what makes him unbearable to play against.

From his initial launch I do agree he was too easy to reveal and I do agree his 16m audio warning was a little too loud however now they have gone too far in the other direction. I see people instadowned out of nowhere or even yanked off gens all the times. It feels cheap as there is no warning or anything.

    So what would I change?

Well bring back the noise for a start. It doesn't need to be as loud as before but it certainly needs to be louder than it is now, if it's even playing a noise at all. Who can tell with all the sound issues? also 8m is far too short. If you feel 16m was too large an area then at least try 12m.

The reveal area needs to be bigger. The center of the screen isn't always what it appears to be. I've noticed some people looking too low for what the game considers the centre even though Ghostface does indeed appear to be central in their screen. Basically it's not intuitive for players where the game wants you to aim.

Also GF shouldn't be able to stalk a second - hide behind a rock, breaking the survivors reveal progress but keeping his own stalk progress. This just feels like an exploit.

I also think his stalk progress should be reset on that specific survivor if that specific survivor reveals him. As it stands now he can stalk a few seconds, you reveal him. Later he will stalk again and you reveal him. On the third time however since he already has progress he is guaranteed to expose you. This feels unfair. If I remember correctly originally revealing him did indeed reset stalk progress? but I think one survivor revealing him reset it for everyone. I'd just make it so that the survivor revealing him gets their progress only reset. That way a good survivor has counterplay to him.

Once again I can not stress how much this killer sucks the fun out of the game for me. I thought Legion was dull but GF is on another level. At least Legion is just dull as well, not cheap and exploitative like Ghostface feels.

  • Favourite: Myers

Least Favourite: Ghostface (by a mile)

  • Could you go over what you decide to address when updating a map? in this case Lery's?

The visual overhaul is apparent, what about design wise though? were the loops too strong before? too weak? a lot of the loops don't look too different but I can see you have put some strong pallets in there.

I see that the area with the bookshelves and double vault windows now has a doorway sometimes yet a vault at other times. Why is that? why was it changed if sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not?

  • I agree he is awful. He's the only killer that makes me not want to play survivor. I will type up my own arguments in the future but for now I fully support changes to Ghostface. He feels very "cheap". I wouldn't say he's straight up overpowered, he just feels unfair and unfun to face like old Freddy did.
