I think it's a combination of nemesis attracting newer players, used to be worse at applying pressure before the buffs and goofy running animation being weirdly intense that gave it a lot of meme value that it just sort of took off.

Yea I get it we all have the ones we despise. I too dont particularly enjoy him, hes a one trick pony and very unoriginal to go against. You load in and you already know how things are going to play out pretty much there is very little "revolutionary" Weskers out there.
"Me see unhook me double dash immediately back to unhook notification, me succeed, me laugh"
Definitely in the crowd for me of too much movement too little cd.
To be clear I think the exact way of nurse as well. Shes unbalanced as hell, just because I love to see what others do with her, does not mean I think shes fair by any means.https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3962068#Comment_3962068
Yea would agree with this sentiment as well. Its not so much about the specific killer but how they play.
If we got some turbo tunneling blight/kaneki I kind of just laugh. Seems to be the majority of my opponents are those two killers and how they play as well.
I dont get to face the killers I like to face, everyone just wants the path of least resistance and originality it would seem. Is what it is
edit: As an aside guess what killer I got to face my first match of the day and how they were playing?

When I first heard about DBD I was very excited. A horror game where you can play as the killer, stalking survivors and scaring the living ######### out of them? - very fun idea! And all the great IPs are there, so many great characters to choose from!
But after watching a lot of DBD videos on Youtube, I find that this game plays more like an action game or tactical hide-and-seek. It seems to be very much focused on outplaying and is also not really scary (at least for the players I've watched). I think it's kind of ridiculous that you can stop killers and evil beings with wooden pallets and blind them with simple flashlights.I like being scared and I would love to share that with like-minded people, and give them a nice spooky experience. But being not a very competitive player and with all the the warning signs for the players like red marks?, terror radius, playing in 3rd person and healing to full all the time, as well as lot's of very bright daytime maps, it seems more about the mechanics and much less about the horror (I've even seen "poor, helpless, scared" survivors teabagging the "evil, scary, monstrous" killer).
I understand that you can get desensitised to it if you play the game long enough, but isn't there any way to make it scary again, by focusing more on horror and less on having a "three gen setup"? Is there a place in DBD for a player like me? Do other players even want to be scared? And if this is not the game for such a playstyle (which is totally fine with me), does anyone have any suggestions for other games that are more in line with this idea?
100% I'd say you should give it a try but also I 80% can guarantee it may not be your type of game if you are looking for a horror game the scariest parts is probably catching/getting caught off guard and well…ping spikes but if you're looking for a game where you can actually feel like your playing the horror slasher mascot go for it it's pretty fun once you get the hang of it as for survivor gameplay the scary parts will only be for the first 10hrs give or take before the game before it just starts to feel like chase simulator Unless you are playing a lobby with friends to intentionally make it scary outside of that it gets very competitive and metamancy and can really take away from the horror aspect of the game
anyways

It was a lot more fun, long before Boons became a thing.
You had overpowered stuff on both sides, it was chaotic and fun. I'd say the time period between 2018 and 2020 was the best.
You had Silent Spirit - Master of yoinking people off of gens. Omegablink Nurse, Iri-Head Huntress with 3 hatchets, OG Billy (who didn't shout "WAAAAAAAH" everytime he used his chainsaw). And then you had all the OP stuff on survivor side as well. Old Dead Hard, Borrowed Time, OG Decisive, Actual instaheals, and so much more.Back then, you also had the old maps, the old HUD and the old animations. And more importantly, you also had RANKS, and a good matchmaking system.
I personally never had an issue with boons this is new info to ngl 😭

Today, we want to dig into a topic that we know many of you have been yearning to know more about: our vision for the future of The Skull Merchant!
REEVALUATING THE SKULL MERCHANT
We know that Skull Merchant is a divisive Killer who, regardless of her performance in a Trial, carries a lot of history and strong feelings among players.
Many players feel she’s not fun to play against and her kit is exceedingly complex. This scares away potential Killers from trying her and makes it difficult for Survivors to consider counterplay without dedicated research.
As we look to reworking Skull Merchant, our aim is to:
- Strike a balance between being fun to play as and against
- Preserve the intel focus of her kit, while making it intuitive to understand for both sides
- Move away from a passive power with limited player interactions and embrace a more active playstyle, while ensuring her power is compensated in interesting ways
Those last two points may be particularly difficult to hear for long-time Skull Merchant mains, but we feel it’s important to be clear about our intentions here. While the future we envision for Skull Merchant is quite different from her previous iterations, we feel this rework brings some exciting new tools of torment to the table!
DRONES 2.0
Skull Merchant can deploy a Stealth Drone (she carries a total of 5), which scans its immediate vicinity and provides intel back to her. After a short activation period, the Drone gives off subtle audio and visual indications of the area being scanned, revealing any Survivors on the Radar who are caught by its two rotating detection zones.
Importantly, we’ve slowed their rotation speed slightly and toned down the visual intensity of these zones, removing the large scan lines to replace them with something more subtle. Namely, you'll see the direction of each detection zone as they rotate, but the detection zone itself is invisible. This gives Survivors an impression of the space that’s being actively scanned but requires them to proceed cautiously.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/C6VWTQBQ1BTU/image-aaf071f6c3346-22ec.png
While we know they had their supporters, the original scan lines were visually loud and often clashed with the rest of the game’s look and feel. The intent here is to strike a balance between giving Survivors just enough info to assess the threat (a subtle, rotating field of detection) without that threat overwhelming the space and feeling incongruous to Dead by Daylight’s visual identity.
DRONE CONTROL
Once a Stealth Drone has been active for a short period, Skull Merchant can choose to take control of Drones from a distance. During this time, she becomes Undetectable, as her controlled Drone becomes the primary threat. These Stealth Drones move slightly faster than her base movement speed and consume a new resource – Power, unique to each Drone – while being controlled.
Power is consumed slowly as the controlled Drone idles and slightly more is consumed while moving. Skull Merchant is also able to use a burst of this Power to activate Drone Propulsion. This charged power sends the Drone flying forward at high speed, relative to how long it was charged.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/IMXNYNDDTZL2/sm-kd-articleasset.gif
Put simply: Stealth Drone go brr
Hitting a Survivor with Drone Propulsion causes them to lose a health state. If you hit a Survivor or collide with an object during this action, the Drone will be destroyed and return control to Skull Merchant.
With these new Stealth Drones, we want to give players something that feels familiar (using drones to gather intel) but also opens the door for unique skill expression opportunities (re-positioning Drones and Propulsion skill shots). Using technology to hunt her prey is core to Skull Merchant’s identity and so it’s important that we stay true to that!
We have opted to remove many of the background effects – Hindered, Haste, Lock On, Claw Trap – that were previously tied to these Drones, though. Rather than doing a little bit of everything with her Drones under layers of complexity, we want their use cases to be clear to Killers and Survivors alike, on the fly. Basically, if they’re static, they’re likely scanning for Survivors. If they’re moving, they’re a collision hazard.
DRONE HACKING
Like Drones themselves, Drone Hacking returns with a greater degree of risk and reward. Like before, Drones can be disabled by Survivors by inputting a series of button presses while close. If a Drone is disabled, Skull Merchant’s aura is revealed to that Survivor, providing useful intel. If the Hack is failed, they are revealed by Killer Instinct and are prevented from attempting another hack for a short period.
The intention here is to introduce a greater degree of tension to hacking, while offering a clear way for Survivors to interact with Skull Merchant’s kit in a meaningful way. The intel reward is greater than before, but the risk of being revealed is more impactful. With intel at the center of this tension on both sides, we hope it makes this interaction easily digestible by players.
RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT
In addition to her Drones, Skull Merchant has another power that ties into her Radar. While the name is currently TBD, let’s refer to it as a Global Detection Power. Once this power is charged and activated, a global warning plays for all Survivors. For a short period afterwards, any Survivor who actively sprints is revealed on her Radar. Of course, crouching, standing still, and hiding in lockers all prevent detection. Added to the intel provided by Stealth Drones around the map, this should help ensure Killers are easily able to keep tabs on Survivors’ movements.
In line with our rationale above, we want Survivors to have a clear understanding of what’s happening when they face Skull Merchant. Where the overlapping timers and status effects of Skull Merchant’s previous kit often obscured what the expected result of an encounter might be, structuring this power around a well-known game – red light, green light – provides a clear and readable threat, a clear benefit for the Killer, and a clear path for Survivors to try and overcome it.
TENTATIVE RELEASE
We are currently evaluating a timeline for Skull Merchant’s rework but do envision it being quite far out as our primary focus is on driving quality-of-life updates. Once we have a timeline to share, we will be sure to keep you informed via future Design Preview updates.
Phew – that was a lot! How do you feel about this rework? We want to hear from you! Jump into our survey and share your thoughts right here:
See you in The Fog!
The Dead by Daylight Team
I'm not even a skull merchant main but judging from what I've seen this is a complete change in pace for what people who originally play skull merchant are used making the character they once love nothing like before and I do not think these changes would make people very happy but if it still drops I hope I am wrong and the player base ends up happy with these changes

So I was just curious about your experiences going against the new killer.
So far he is down right slaughtering me and my teammates and people have already started to give up once they get hooked. We rarely get more than two gens done (by "we" I mean my soloq team). I admit I'm not a very good player but getting stomped like this feels unusual tbh.
In my experience new killers tend to have rather low kill rates right after the release before people truly master them.
So what changed here? Are you guys having fun going as and against him? How has it been for you so far? :)
Edit: Just got out from a game where someone went afk right at the start and for the rest of the trial. :I
Not so bad actually I'm not seeinf what other survivors are seeinf but that could just be ny matches personally I see no difference as it were to be for legion or wesker

This killer is insane. Guaranteed injury since it’s almost impossible to miss with the power, insane map mobility, and insane at ending chases since you can leap ahead of a survivor or right next to them and cancel your ability mid air so you can get a instant m1 after landing. I would put him around Billy as the 4th best killer in the game currently. He has all the things in his kit to be S tier and has an addon that is legit bbq and chili.
Reminds me a lot of legion Ive started watching the anime recently because of him just hope he gets balanced out to peoples likings or counterplay is found
-
I do not think that is a good change if it isn't broken don't fix it.
I don't think that increasing the time for a zombie's respawn rate from pallets would help at all as dropping pallets will alert the killer which the whole point of wanting to blind a zombie is either not to get hit or not showing where your location is to the killer. you won't always be around a pallet to prevent a zombie from walking towards you, Wasting a pallet for a zombie's spawn rate decrease is not a worthy trade, and dead zones. and this isn't the only time items brought to the game counter plays a killer's power as there are many interactions such as legion, nurse and, if we are counting alien and, Singularity there is that as well
Nemesis already has pallet counterplay and forcing anyone to drop a pallet for anything is a rather terrible counter play for any killer outside of chase as that give even more free-way for the killer to just get rid of every pallet on the map and logically zombies have retinas too you know it's not like they sense you and slap you so its only logical it can be blinded
and if your only other idea of counter play is a bug "zombies get stuck" then the idea as a whole isn't going to work out as a bug is something out of the survivors control. -

I would also agree with this, however, there's only one problem.
Say they remove tunneling, be it a survivor becomes immune from chase, invincible post unhook, whatever scenario. How long would it take to re-balance the game around it? Realistically speaking, and taking into consideration BHVR's timeframe for changes, killers would be stuck for a long time facing experienced survivors who would 100% attempt abusing whatever system is in place.
Me personally, I only see tunneling as a fine game plan around 1-2 gens left and I agree it's annoying at 4-5 gens and would love to see more incentive to swap between targets, but I fail to see a decent or equal tradeoff for killer side to contend aside just playing the top tier killers while more than half the roster, especially M1, suffer with no backup plan.
And I don't think basekit old BBQ for BP is going to be enough of an incentive gameplay wise, I've seen that suggested. Anyone who tunnels aggressively isn't doing it for BP.I agree with this as well as it would indeed be a very difficult thing to balance around so the idea of tunneling being removed is hardly ever going to be possible but I also think if it were to be removed in some magical change that wouldn't be a bad thing either whole idea of this post is saying it just shouldn't be shamed as its a almost unchangeable part of the game
-
@Pulsar said:
The game would be healthier from both perspectives if tunneling was removed. As it is now, it is used as a crutch. That isn't inherently a bad thing, but it can be when it negatively affects a large part of the community.
As I understand it, a good portion of Killers feel that tunneling is necessary to have a chance to win. My own feelings aside, they should want tunneling removed so that we can address those issues. Would it not be better if you could feel able to compete without tunneling someone out?
As Survivor, obviously, if tunneling was removed you wouldn't have these very frustrating games where you are hard focused out of having a decent match.
However, I do not think we can incentivize people to stop tunneling. The cat is out of the bag, so to speak. People understand that killing someone off is the BEST slowdown in the entire game and it isn't close.
That means whatever we do about tunneling needs to be a hard-stop ala anti-facecamp. Which also means we have to either be ready to jump on potential issues fast OR try to pre-address them in the same patch.
I completely Agree with everything stated

Your grade has nothing to do with who you are being matched with/against.
Matchmaking is based on a hidden rank (also called MMR), which is not set back each month. It’s only affected by kills/escapes (hatch escapes and DCs don’t count here).
also, based on Lobby queue times the matchmaking isnt even that strict as shorter queue times are always favored - just Look at your typical ‚high skill‘ streamers and you will notice their opponents are actually performing mostly like lower/average skilled playersThank you

Sure, not saying it's wrong, and is your prerogative to do so, but I bet you get the occasional "BG" or "no not a GG" response, don't you? 😏
The reason is because you're communicating in text, therefore people don't have the ability to read your facial expressions or body language, so when their frustrated at how the game has gone, they will, occasionally, read your "GG" as being a snide and arrogant comment as I've described above.
It's easy to write them off as just a baby or a rage head, and to be fair, decent chance you're right… but even the best of us get riled up from time to time, and when you're already raging, it's quite difficult to not get the wrong idea and bite someone's head off when they "GG" a clearly one sided game…
So you do you man, but that is the risk you take ^^
Yeah, but I'd never get mad another player even if tbagged because I know they are just trying to have fun so hopefully I can get the message across as a good thing somehow when I say gg

Yeah actually. Its been that way for how long? Suddenly changing something after years of it being one way will naturally get some groans.
The stun made it a bit more balanced, imo. Now he can run around without much care. Missed a frenzy? Ah well, the survivor can't get away without a hit anyway unless they are right next to a vault.
We'll have to see.
Hopefully it's not like that and the stun give enough distance for survivors to not complain but I still feel like the buffs were necessary but if it's not as balanced as I think it can use some tweaks

I understand your argument is you are tired of going against the same killer but if you are just struggling with going against legion I have tips
I do play and main legion but I want to make sure everyone has fun so I'll give you some ideas for counterplay so you don't have as much of a hard time:
- When the legion starts frenzy do not heal or mend make sure you stay injured
- You should always have one /two healthy survivors on your team but make sure you stay injured because healing is a time waster
- if the legion hits you in frenzy and tries to get to the next person block his path and make sure they don't get another hit
- legion has terrible and little to no anti loop so once feral frenzy stun is active go to the nearest area you can confidently loop at because legion will have a hard time and probably give up chase
- any and every version of stunning causes frenzy to stop that includes flashlights/flashbangs/blast mine?
- Spread out and don't stay close to survivors and do gens separately if you see a survivor on a gen already go to a further away gen
- if you know feral frenzy is active go where there are no vaults and don't camp pallets as the legion can easily bait those or swing past it
Hope these tips help
Good luck and see you in the fog! -

He was one of my least favorite killer to play with. You cant hide from him anywhere, i spend half the match in the bushes healing myself or others which is always boring as hell, and each match drags on forever, because each legion only has perks that slow down whole game, dragging out the match even longer. And the worst thing is that there is usually at least one player in the team who falls next to him after 5 seconds, and game is lost anyway, despite everyone trying.
Luckily legion was rare in dbd...
I hated him completely after the last two weeks of 2v8. Every match with him was awful, unless a complete noob was playing, who got smacked with palette about 20 times during one match. But apart from that, every semi-competent player was a pain.
Today i had 5 already, almost in a row (if you dont count the two matches where someone gave up on the first hook). After second one, for the first time, I started disconnecting so often on purpose after over 3000 hours. Ive reached the limit. I have a half hour penalty now, I wont start this game today. Its funny that developers want to punish people even more. I honestly dont think anything would stop me from avoiding every legion at this point.
IMO there should be a limit. There are 30 killers in the game, and the player gets one 3 times in a row? identical maps one after another have never been a problem for me, but this is now. i dont want to play with legion anymore. In general, i think each player should be able to choose one killer they do not want to play with.
This would definitely solve a lot of frustrations in this game.
What do you think?

A lot of people are praising the Legion buffs and Mending nerfs, but Here's how an actual Legion trial/match will go down:
- Survivors realize they're against Legion.
- Allow Legion to Frenzy Strike them all and run to the corners of the map.
- Let mending timer tick down, putting them into the dying state.
- Click Surrender.
They both buffed Legion AND gave us an easy way to "Go Next" without any penalties. Well done devs, I never liked going up against Legion for a full match, and now I'll never have to… for more than a minute at a time.
/s
Edit:
Ok, hate me all you want guys, its fine, if you wanna shoot the messenger: fire away… Doesn't mean I'm wrong though.
I'm just pointing out an easy to spot Flaw in the new system that the devs may not have foreseen. However, They were clued in enough to foresee that survivors might abuse Plot Twist for an Easy "Go Next" option, and addressed it in the dev notes, so it's just really funny to me that they prepped the upcoming PTB to counter that, but somehow missed the scenario I'm proposing here.
You can't honestly tell me survivors WON'T adopt this "Tech" either. Player Pettiness is the whole reason the DC penalty had to be implemented in the first place.
as a legion main I find this hilarious 😭
but I hope I'm not making the game unfun as you make it out to be good luck though!
