When you say general advice, then there's no magic bullet.
Commit to chases. It works better when playing killers that can commit to chases because they counter W, of course.
Don't go out of your way to snuff the totem. Treat it as kicking gens. You don't have anything that takes immediate priority and you're passing by anyway.
Specific advice and strats can be given for specific killers, bu that's not what were you asking for.

Define fun first, then we'll take it from there.

- Install Discord
- Join DbD official server
- Go to swf section
- Play the game

They skipped their daily lecture of the Killer's rulebook for survivors and now they kinda forgot how you want them to play.

Finally after literally two years of playing this game, I finally got the damn Archive Challenge "Six Feet Under" (sacrifice four survivors in the basement) completed!!!!
The last killer archive I needed to complete to have all the killer side ones done (still need to work on the survivor ones but sooooo many damn "get 4 pallet hits in one game" challenges :,(
I had come really close in a game a few months ago but the last survivor wiggled out of my grasp when I was on the staircase going down and the damn hatch appeared in the killer shack, probably to mock me.
Wouldn't have expected M1 Ghostface to be the one who got me my basement murders but beggers can't be choosers...
Congratulations. One fewer annoying challenge to worry about.
For the pallet stun in one trial, use a healing build and literally camp inside the pallet trading health states for stuns. Your teammates will hate you, but you didn't create the challenge. Oh, and Pray you get a killer that can be pallet stunned (so, not half the roster essentially).
If it's just generic stuns, then blast mine, head on and DS are your best friends.

Huntress, obviously. She's the household darling of bhvr.

It doesn't work anymore. But back in the day this build was a blast, and I had tons of fun with it.
The good old Spirit-before-Spirit-existed build.

@Bwsted the good news is when I was actually trying and playing for kills I doubt my MMR was anywhere near the soft cap. Sorry to ask but how much does each individual's killer MMR get lowered if your overall MMR is lowering? I thought I read somewhere that losing a lot with one killer still slightly lowers it with the other killers? I can't find those notes/explanations anywhere though!
In theory, mmr on individual killers goes up or down only if you use that specific killer.
Average mmr is used exclusively to set a starting point for those killers that you've never played before.
-
This could work, but the numbers on the timer are over the top. It should be something like 6 sec max at t3.
-
It's unclear because figures are mostly leaked and leaks can't be discussed.
However, mmr goes up indefinitely if you keep winning. There's simply a soft cap to your rating that basically tells the system to treat you as if you were at that rating once you reach or climb above it.
So, if your mmr is a lot above the soft cap, it will take a while to tank it. There's also the additional factor that you have to tank the mmr on every single killer you wish to play.

If you don't have Iron Will she can be very frustrating, while if you do it feels like she can be almost powerless at times. I definitely don't think that's a good spot to be in and further adjustments need to be made, but my god she's so much healthier now than she was.
This sums it up^.
As I said in the thread about Stridor, I think she should hear grunts of pain at a set middle-ground value during phase, without being affected by perk modifiers. Maybe a sound effect could be added as well, like a bit of echo Dream-World style.
That would make her power more consistent without swinging the balance and allow Stridor to reverted.
-
Dream protection add ons are the best. Paint brush is ok, as is pill bottle for a little bit of extra stealth.
-
It shows that if you play at certain times of the day you can be matched against survivors who can't find their m1 button, regardless of your mmr.
No offense to Otz. I just think he didn't consider this variable.
-
It can be used multiple times, it's not a hack.
'Deactivate' simply means that you have to fulfill the activation condition again for another use.
Mettle of Man works on the same principle and uses the same wording, for example.
-
Ok.
-
There are like 3 op windows. That whole building needs a rework.

Does this kick in starting this month? So next reset we will get that?
Yes, it says rewards for 13th February on Twitter.
Nice-ish change. I still don't think it's worth to grind for on the survivor side, though. At least, not solo. 1 mil is like 20 killer games without offerings. Still faster to get than 84 or whatever survivor pips, especially at iri grades and with all the dc's and getting mmr'd with boosted teammates.
If they removed de-pips, maybe I'd think about it.
-
Stridor reverted and make sounds during Spirit's phase to be locked to a specific value, regardless of perk modifiers.

The game thinks I'm good at Nurse and gives me these squads.
They aren't even good, just cocky and annoying.
So, the game thinks you're good... by matching you against people who are not good?
There's some food for thought in there.
-
When it's supposed to break the game and instead it's gone and forgotten within a week from release... yeah, fair to say even 'greatly exaggerated' is an understatement.
-
W Vs Artist
W wins by fatality.
-
Probably some number tweaks in the power and add-ons and maybe removing the half-bar depletion on stuns and m1s.
-
The other older way of pairing players was fairer at least for killers, as at least 1 or 2 kills were guaranteed. Nowadays it is necessary to donate blood, sweat and your soul to achieve at least 1 death.
The first part of that statement is self-contradictory, because it specifies exactly how the old system wasn't 'fairer'.
The second part of your statement isn't even true.
With that being said, I don't like the current system and I don't even think it works as intended. However, implementing a replacement on the premises that it'd be supposedly better because it gives you "guaranteed kills" is not the way to go.

What... What DOES Dark Sense do, again?
It's that perk that prevents you from knowing the killer has Rancor and he's gonna come to kick that ass.
-
I mean, it's not like they're gonna die for real.
-
playing a high-pitched whistling sound
Not surprised it's unused.
-
It depends on the killer.
For Oni, it's not particularly impactful. The strat has always been to commit to the first chase to collect orbs, or to rotate for a hit on a fresh survivor.
Oni is a snowball killer. You snowball with an instadown. Coh doesn't save you from that.
M1 killers are much more affected. Someone like Freddy, for example.
-
It's either going to be released unchanged, or they'll cap the number of gens that can be blocked, imho.

@Phasmamain said:
Tbf not just survivors can abused it. High level nurses and blights use it keep tracking survivors in fatigue. It definitely needs to be fixed ASAP though
Good remainder^
It's used to track survivors also during pallet breaks and vaults.
In general, it makes difficult for survivors to go unnoticed in your blind spots as well. So, close to the camera but either far below or above the center of the fov.

Probably B, but I really don't like to play him.
He is kinda like billy, super high skill ceiling without a reward.
He is good against soloQ, because you have multiple / none survivors running for box, but SWF just have always 1 who is closest.
He gets punished a lot for any missed hooks, but even if you land then you don't gain much distance and it just don't give you hit on most loops.
This^. Spot-on and it spares me from having to type all that out.
I guess only the tier is subjective, but the point is that he's definitely not A.
-
He didn't get lucky. He just played at a time of the day where trials are softer and failed to realize that occurence, or at least to discuss it properly.
If you play earlier in the day on EU, you're gonna face much better survivors, with the odd curve ball of baby teams still possible to happen, but much less likely.
That is not to say that many of the points he made are false. Rather, that his little experiment doesn't prove, nor disprove, anything, because its results are easily skewed.
Consider this. He afk'd 30 sec at the beginning of each match. Even if each survivor takes 10 sec to get on a gen, that's 20 sec of free repair time for each survivor. That adds up to a full gen worth of progress. If the they do coop, the numbers get a little more favorable for the killer, but ever so slightly. Moreover, keep in mind that's progress that the killer has no way to undo other than dry-kicking gens.
After that head start, a chase must be initiated and completed. You basically give up 3 gens, with a 4th being close to completion, when you have your first down, even against the tutorial bots.
Simply put, the only way a killer of ANY skill level could rebound from that is by either the survivors to suddenly experience broken left click buttons, or by the survivors being worse than AI.
-
If your recollection of the trial is accurate, you DIDN'T team with the Jill.
So, still assuming your story is precise, you broke NO rules whatsoever.
You have full agency to decide which survivors to kill, in what order and even who to spare, as long as you're not collaborating with one survivor to target other survivors. The Jill also has no obligation to be altruistic, even more so with you right there at the hook.
If anything, the guy who pointed at the Jill in the locker tried to team with you (and you wisely declined). So, if you accepted the hint and killed the Jill and spared the other one, that's where you'd run into troubles. And yes, there were people who actually did that, then came here on the forum complaining they got banned.
Last word of advice, as a rule of thumb, if one survivor tries to sell another one out, make sure you kill the former and that'll keep you out of trouble. You can also kill both, of course. But don't kill the one who gets ratted out while sparing the other one.
-
If you chased clockwise on the outside, bloodlust couldn't help you. But they would get entity blockers eventually, as long as they vault with chase active (you mentioned bloodlust, so I assume chase was on).
A speed hack if they didn't vault is possible.
There was also a Lithe bug where survivors retained haste.
So, either a bug or a cheat. Impossible to say either way.
Yeah, DbD is such a good game that we can't tell bugs from cheats and sometimes even features.

I don't believe Otz tanks his MMR offstream. He is streaming during prime hours when there are an abundance of survivors and the queue times are long. The matchmaking throws out the MMR in favor of faster queues, so Otz is basically playing in the old matchmaking system when he was getting 50 win streaks constantly. tru3, however, plays during morning/mid-day and he faces significantly more meta efficient teams, both solo and SWF. This mirrors my own experience with killer. When I play in the morning or afternoon, I get efficient meta squads over and over again. When I play during peak hours in the evening, I get tons of potatoes, bad SWFs, and solo teams with the occasional bully squad.
I play on the same server as Otz and I can confirm that in EU region matchmaking experience is more or less as you described.
I play morning or early afternoon and the quality of survivors I verse tends to be higher. It gets ridiculously worse and worse as you move later in the day. As in, the rare times I play later than usual, it doesn't even feel as the same game.
Tbf to Otz, in the tweets he does say that matchmaking is inconsistent. It's just that picking different times of day to run this challenge will heavily skew the data, which can't be overlooked.
I did watch Otz' matches and simply many of those survivors were worse than AI. There's no amount of skill that will allow a loadoutless 30-sec afk killer to not get stomped if the survivors have enough brain cells to find their m1s.
With that being said, I do agree with many of the points he makes, but those conclusions are not proved (nor disproved) by this challenge.

3 of you were in a group and had comms the whole time. I'm curious why you were unable to coordinate and try to at least get 1 off, did the pig just absolutely refuse to move her feet and just slash? Generally a technique similar to hook bombing will get it done especially, as was noted earlier, since pig doesn't know which box has the key, so she wouldn't have known it was THE box.
Pigs that go for this strat just pick one box and bodyblock it. That's the whole point. There's a significant chance that one of the players has to bad luck-of-the-draw and that's their box. So, they stand in front of it until the head pops. They don't move at all if they see someone still has a trap on. It's been a thing since her add-on pass.
It also gets increasingly rarer that more survivors have the key spawn in the same box, but it's entirely possible that all of them have it in the same box.
In OP's scenario, they only had two choices (ignoring dc'ing):
- 99'ing gens and go for a stalemate until the Pig moved, possibly staying in the trial indefinitely.
- Finish the gens, have 3 people suicide asap by going through the gates and hoping that the last survivor finds hatch. But at that point, that person is definitely going to get hunted down if the killer is not effectively afk.
-
Or... maybe YOU missed the point of the game. Food for thoughts.
-
I'm sure the Clown nerf was unintentional, they most certainly did that by accident when they tried to nerf Pig.

"You unwrapped the cubic container and I reached you."

Because I'm not masochistic enough to play soloq.

Nerfing Twins.
Buffing Bubba.

At least, they didn't nerf Pig.

The totem stack is classic and yes, it's a good build. Spies is whatever if you don't have much else.

They haven't addressed anything yet. They just mentioned it. They even repeated multiple times that they may scrap this.

2-hour long video tf. I'd need a tl;dw. You guys are madlads if you watched the whole thing.

Respectable. Have a nice day.

That's simply not true. They simply gave the figures, never said anything about it.
The reasons of the change where clearly detailed in the devs' notes:
We took a close look at the perk to identify what makes it so frustrating to play against. Three key issues were identified:
- Its punishment of new players or those who can't hit Great Skill Checks. Newer players trying to help veterans with generator repairs tend to make the situation worse rather than better.
- The passive nature of the gameplay pressure it provides means that there is a huge amount of potential with very little effort or risk on behalf of The Killer.
- Its inconsistency due to the random nature of the appearance interval of skill checks.

I'm using a Fury X, which is not exactly a new model.
On low settings, I can run 120 fps. There are some maps that are just badly optimized no matter what and even monster GPUs of any brands will have fluctuating frames on those.
Rather than just performance, I suggest you have a look at drivers as well. Generally speaking, Radeon is a bit lacking in that department and Nvidia offers control panels with much better configuration options.
