Low-key, I think the Twins are mostly fine. Strong killer when played by a strong player, with plenty of baked in weaknesses and counterplay.
People complain about being slugged, but you could just run any of the 10+ perks you have for anti-slugging. If you REALLY didn't want to be slugged, you would bring a perk to pick yourself up or pick up others up faster.

I largely agree that Predator needs to do something to actually be worth a perk slot. Why burn a slot on Predator, when that slot could be filled by Deadlock, No Way Out, Overcharge, or even NOED?
Directional scratch marks would be awesome. So would longer lasting scratches. But it's hard to think of an effect strong enough to make Predator worth picking. Predator should be a trade-off compared to other tracking perks: higher consistency due to being a scratch mark related perk, but lower effectiveness compared to aura perks. Perhaps the scratch marks slowly move in the direction of the survivor that made them, pinpointing their location?
At the moment, the perk is strictly a downgrade from having zero perks. It's an active penalty. I would like to see more perks become viable options.
-
You can't stop players from DC'ing or committing die. It's simply not possible. Players will DC for every reason imaginable, from "I dislike this killer" to "my teammate is playing a survivor I don't like" to "I spawned in on a map I don't like" to "the killer saw me at some point" to "I got pallet stunned exactly once".
Implementing bot replacements for DC'd players would be a real solution. In addition to that, you could also remove the DC penalty so players are more likely to DC and leave a bot in their place instead of committing unalive on hook and leaving their team short a player. A bot that wanders around and does gens is a lot better then literally nothing.
-
I always lock just one. Dredge can just break the second lock with M1 after teleporting to the first one.
You miss out on getting a longer warning and potential extra safety in exchange for wasting the killer's time only very slightly.
-
It definitely feels like hit validation got rolled back and isn't a thing anymore, especially since reverse pallet stuns are back. I've been hitting survivors through pallets quite a lot in the past few months, a lot more than when your would get canceled if a stun was pending and hitting through pallets was impossible.
-
He really needs his terror radius back to 24m. Slinger's strongest counter-play is Hold W, and giving survivors so much warning against a slow killer with limited range is pretty rough.
I liked his niche as a pseudostealth ranged killer with M&A. With Slinger, you give up a lot of the snowball potential you could have had by picking Trickster or Huntress instead, but in exchange you become much stealthier and better at catching players off guard. Not really the case anymore, since you need to rely on perks that aren't as consistent as M&A to get decent stealth (or bring M&A with Whiskey, which is really clunky and gimmicky).
His ADS nerf made an already difficult killer to play into an even more difficult killer, but I personally think that's fine. He doesn't need to be an unloopable S+++ tier MLG sniper pro, having a "hard mode" killer that is only viable if you have skill is something that actually makes him very appealing to me.
That being said, 400ms ADS with 500ms firing delay is very painful. 250ms ADS is not unreactable, but it's also asking way too much from people playing a casual game like DbD. 300ms ADS would be a lot more comfortable to play. If they really insist on leaving his ADS at 400ms, he would be better if his projectile speed increased from 40m/s to 80m/s. In my personal opinion, survivors being able to juke Slinger's harpoon is what makes him so frustrating to play as. If you juke a hatchet, Huntress can have between 4 more and 6 more hatchets ready. If you juke Slinger, he has to give you almost 10 meters of free distance before he can shoot again.
The counterplay to Slinger should be getting into cover or reacting to him entering ADS, not holding W while looking straight ahead and waiting on the "shot fired" sound effect so you can juke his shot guaranteed (Yes, people can dodge his shot on reaction to the SFX. Yes, I experience it almost every time I play Slinger). It's why you see so many Slingers just hold W and never shoot their gun. So I think having a faster projectile would mean you can actually aim at a survivor, pull the trigger, and not have them juke it on reaction and turn you into a 4.4 killer with no power.
Oh, and make his projectile hitbox very slightly larger. Like 5% to 10% larger. Not the environmental collision one, it would make him unplayable since he couldn't shoot over stuff or through tiny holes. Just the one that actually hits the survivor. It would make weird situations where your shot goes through survivors less common.
EDIT:
All that being said, I think he's still a pretty solid killer. He just needs some QoL, and some minor buffs to give players a meaningful reason to pick him over other ranged or anti-loop killers.

I thought it would make some people laugh. I find that idea just so hilarious in what's an otherwise pretty serious game
-
The point of MoM is for gimmicky meme builds. Basically just a funny perk for funny gamers, nothing wrong with it.
-
Deja Vu or Visionary (Detective's Hunch, to a lesser extent). You can stick to gens like glue and make sure that your solo queue homies can get out, even if you are the only person doing gens.
Circle of Healing. Helps keep your fellow dummies healthy and makes their chases last longer.
Aftercare, Bond, Empathy, or Kindred (to a lesser extent, Blood Pact, Empathic Connection, Any Means Necessary, Windows of Opportunity, Wiretap, Blast Mine, or Better Together). Anything to know what your teammates are doing or anything to give your teammates info. Bad decisions come from lack of info, good decisions come from being able to see the full picture. You can't solo the killer, you have to work together.
Anything to make your chases longer, avoid chases, or break chases. Stalling out the killer by extended chases means the killer isn't killing your teammates. Breaking chase means the killer isn't killing you. Which is better depends on the situation. If your homies are on death hook, it's better to try and take aggro and go on a long chase to keep the killer away from your homies. If YOU are on death hook, well, a little bit of leading the killer to a gen being worked on won't hurt the Mikaela that hasn't been hooked all game ; )

I actually stopped running M&A as much I used to for this reason hah. The increased FOV makes blinds happen at really weird angles. Some time ago, I got a flashy save against a Nurse by blinding the back of her head because she had Shadowborn.

Yea, see that makes some sense at least, but more and more lately I see a survivor gets outplayed in a chase, they DC. They get hooked, they DC. They DC in the middle of the Mori animation. Like, I've had some really sus looking disconnects that were absolutely not my fault. About a week ago, while I was being carried to my first hook, my power went out in my neighborhood. As annoyed as I was, I was laughing too, as the timing was just so hilarious. It happens, but... I don't believe it happens as often as it is more and more lately.
I always laugh when a survivor DC's and I'm playing killer, but as survivor I groan in agony. You're right that it's really just too common. Imo, people need to learn to take a break from a game if it's making them want to rage quit all the time.
-
imo, it's because of how easy it is to mess with people in this game. Comes from how much power each individual player has over how the course of the game plays out (which is one of the biggest strengths and biggest weakness of DbD, imo).
In a game like Halo, CS:GO, or [your favorite multiplayer game here], the game usually has a timer and ends naturally after a period of time even if players are not participating in normal gameplay (e.g. players in For Honor deciding to stop fighting and hold a fashion show, for example).
A match in DbD can only end in these scenarios:
- 3 out of 4 survivors are dead, and the last survivor can escape through hatch or the killer can start the 2-4 minute EGC timer
- The exit gate has been opened by a killer or a survivor, and all four survivors escape or the 2-4 minute EGC timer ends
- The killer has killed all 4 survivors
So if at least two survivors are alive and not doing gens, they can hide for multiple hours until the server force closes the match. The killer can repeatedly down and pick up one of the survivors, preventing them from being able to bleed out or die on hook. If the killer is AFK, two survivors can bodyblock the exit gate levers for multiple hours and force the other two survivors to DC if they want to leave. In general, if no one is doing gens and the killer is not killing anyone, the match can go on for way too long since it can no longer end naturally. Imo, that's kind of silly.
There's also the fact that the game is very frustrating at times. Frustrated and angry people tend to act a lot worse towards others than calm and relaxed people. Just look at the Dark Souls community: It's a famously difficult and frustrating series, and the community is pretty toxic since they're usually mad that they died to the same boss for the 10th time today.
-
I really only disconnect if the game is being held hostage somehow. Such as players hiding for over 30 minutes and not doing gens, or the killer bodyblocking me in the corner or doing the "pick you up and drop you then down you, then pick you up and drop you then down you" thing. I do occasionally disconnect if I'm in a bad mood and the killer is making everyone bleed out on the ground, instead of participating in normal gameplay (I can eat the penalty, because that's gonna be my last game that day anyway).
If I'm playing against a skilled killer and my teammates are Urban Evading potatoes hanging out in the corner, I'm committing become not alive on hook. No reason to DC since I can leave the game naturally, and no reason to waste my time trying to carry 3 useless teammates and essentially 1v1 the killer and solo all five gens.
-
I hack my achievements, personally lol
-
Why are we talking about a two year old ScottJund video?
-
P19 Slinger and P11 Ace
I've been splitting my bloodpoints around a lot to unlock the new perks and get some perks on Chris Redfield, so I haven't been able to dump them all into my favorite cowboy.
-
I would prefer the option being up to the slug. If a slug wants to commit die and give their homie hatch and end the game, that's pretty chill.
It would not be chill to give sandbaggers the ability to straight up join the killer's team.

But in reality the person behind the screen is a rich suburban kid who has two loving parents and an easy life.
The thing is, there's no way know either way. All I know about that person is that they played a match of Dead by Daylight today. Do they slug people to death because they are spiteful? Because it's funny to them? Because they want the match to last longer and don't want to give survivors the chance to suicide on hook? Was there a genuine reason, like hook spawns being broken (has happened to me a few times, it was impossible to hook anyone so I had to just make them bleed out)?
Was it a one time thing and they're just having a bad day, or do they do this every single game that they play?
I don't know until I ask them, but it's really easy to infer that someone who likes to makes others miserable is probably not a very happy person. Overwhelmingly, when it comes down to end game chat and I get to talk to them, they act like an insane person and are extremely vindictive and hateful towards everyone in the lobby. If the people I talk to that do this are clearly very disturbed, I'm sure you can understand why I walk away thinking that there is something going on in their life that's making them miserable even when I don't get to talk to them.
Peeking into someone's life for 14 minutes through the lens of an online game is not enough to get the full picture, but god damn if it's not a really unpleasant 14 minutes.

I am just playing a game, that is what is happening on the other side of the monitor. I am laughing... Having a great time. I know that narrative does not please you, but it is the truth. I do not even think about life while I play DbD.
If people have actually had a tough life, genuinely, they are stronger than you would know. I get this from you guys a lot, in messages, but they never seem to realize is that their opinion is irrelevant. It never hurts my feelings. Pointing out reality does not offend me. It is what it is and I hope nobody has to ever go through what I have, but my experiences are NOT some weird justification for my conduct. I do it because I enjoy it. Not to exert control over others or "bully" them. That is just a consequence of how the game is designed, I suppose. Not my fault!
Ah, that's reasonable. I'm not personally offended by people being annoying in video games or anything, just genuinely baffled and confused most of the time. I'm a very curious person, so I'm always trying to figure out the how's and why's of human behavior and other stuff. No high horses from me, I'm just curious.
"Because it makes me laugh" is pretty much the best possible answer you could have given me. It's not really deep or complicated or anything. I also find it funny for people to get triggered over meaningless BS, but I don't go out of my way to get that reaction out of people. I'm really just too sensitive for it haha

If you think how someone act in a video game is directly related to how they are in real life then you need a serious reality check. By this logic everyone who kills npc in GTA must really want to just go out and shoot everyone or anyone who plays assassins creed is a secret assassin. Sounds ridiculous because the real world and video game world are two completely different things.
Now with that been said there are some very extreme case where lines do get blurred buy these are in the minority.
The difference is that NPCs in GTA have no emotions. They aren't real people, so you're free to beat them to death with a baseball bat with moral impunity. It's what that game is made for, people letting their stress out by doing something completely harmless to imaginary people.
To be completely fair, I'll admit and say that I find it genuinely hilarious when people get mad at me when I do something they don't like in video games. I'm not out here trying to ruin their play session on purpose, they just hand me free tickets to the circus and I take the free entertainment where I can get it.
Purposely trying to upset actual people is different, imo. A little trolling for laughs is totally fine, it's just a video game. But going in with a mean-spirited attitude and telling people to kill themselves, ect, is where I'm like "uh, bro, do you need to talk to someone?" That's more the kind of thing I'm talking about.
-
I usually assume those kinds of people have really hard lives, like the only chance they can have any real control over life is bullying strangers online. I just kinda feel bad for them.
It's probably not that deep, but I still wonder what is happening on the other side of the monitor, y'know?
-
I can't tell if this is some kind of elaborate bait or not.
If it's legit and not a bait, this is peak entitlement. "Why let the other guy go and not me? I'm special, so treat me like it 😭"
I let survivors go when I think they had a really hard game (e.g. they got stomped), or when I had a bonding moment with them and I decided to ignore them for the rest of the game so they can escape. Every now and again, there's someone like you in the endgame chat that has a freak-out that I was... nice to someone??? I'll never understand it.

I've been playing survivor for 2 years and I can say I think the OP is on the money.
If the killer was a really really hard to beat AI bot then there wouldn't be half the complaining there is, but because its another person everyone gets their ego riled up and its a constant complaint fest about how unfair and unjust it all is.
The game is kinda meant to be unfair and when it is, it emulates the slasher flicks that inspired it beautifully. Those games where the killer is a nasty monster you have to flee from to not die are the best games of DBD as survivor.
This often involves very underhanded play by the killer player and you know what its great if you embrace it for what it is a survival horror.
Just try and check your ego at the door because when you invite your ego in and then lose to another player, all of a sudden its a "waaah its not fair!" scenario.
Can all the people crying its not fair honestly say that they don't just want a consistent BOT like experience because they are struggling to deal with losing to another player?
I'm looking forward to custom game bots I find playing with random strangers online exhausting.
But I'll probably play a lot of custom game killer against bot survivors just for the fun of it and more live game survivor against killer players, because I doubt the bots will be as nasty as a player can be and trying to escape from a monster is what the game is all about.
Yeah, honestly. It really feels like Dead By Daylight is a lot of people's first multiplayer game (some people I've chatted with have said that it's their first, as well). Part of the fun of multiplayer games is that your opponent is going to be WAY more ruthless than a bot could ever be. Trying to win a competition against another human being is a true battle of wits that can't ever be replicated by AI.
-
Killer is no longer as stress-inducing as it used to be. It's a lot more chill and you have the freedom to play more casually without getting dookied for loading into a difficult map (imo, most maps rn are actually fine. Just Giddeon's, Lery's, and Badham are the ones I personally dislike).
Solo survivor needs some serious help, but solo survivor has always needed the most help out of anyone in the game. Not really anything new there.
I would actually really like to see slightly stricter matchmaking though. It gets really frustrating stomping noobs all the time, I wanna get my teeth kicked in by Survivor Seal Team 6 now and again lol
-
Aftercare + Empathic Connection.
Your injured teammates can find you very quickly and get healed with Empathic Connection, and then you both have (mostly) permanent wall-hacks on each other with Aftercare. It's great if you are solo, or not very good at making callouts in SWF.
-
They can't do gens if they are dead.
My advice is that if you want to win with no regression perks, you have to play hyper-aggressive. I run zero slowdown builds pretty often, and can still beat good teams even as low-tiers. I don't even think I'm all that good or anything, I just run four chase perks so I can end chase very quickly.
Good game sense helps too. Knowing when to camp and slug, ect.
-
I largely agree. I'm a highly biased Aftercare, Breakdown, and Distortion enjoyer, so I would personally put Jeff above Yoichi and below Tapp, but that's about it.
-
That's happened to me before, the infinite loading screen thingy-doo. No idea what causes it, but you have to restart your game to fix it.
-
No thanks., I don't want some 14-year old screaming at me for opening a chest.
I would much prefer something like icons that tell you what your teammate is doing (e.g. on a gen, in chase, healing, ect.)
-
I kind of dislike both in general. Medkits completely disable some killer playstyles and punish you for playing fair by splitting pressure, and toolboxes just end the game way sooner than is reasonable if you bring a gen rush build.
Things that massively change the course of a match just for loading in with it is a little less than fun. Lots of things on both sides come to mind like that, such as map offerings and some killer add-ons.
-
It's a niche and strange perk that existed before some of the stronger "hide my scratch marks" perks exist.
To be fair, the consistency and on-demand aspect of Dance With Me is what makes it fairly reliable (compared to Poised, Lucky Break, Low Profile, and the newly buffed Lightweight).
It's main drawback is that it's a combo perk, and not a perk that's strong by itself. Dance With Me + Lithe + Quick and Quiet is still a strong combo, you just don't see it since running three perks for one gimmick is not such a good idea.
As for the post, I'm not sure how I would buff it, if at all. It has a niche as a combo perk, and it's strong in that niche. I don't think there's anything wrong with having strange off-meta gimmick perks.
-
It's pretty rough, yeah. Any of the archive challenges that are mostly negated by the killer you're playing against are roooough.
Imagine trying to do a challenge where you need to take protection hits while the killer is carrying a survivor, but you keep getting Starstruck Nurse or smthn 💀

I don't know if a diaper killer would work. Antagonists in horror wearing diapers isn't typically an element you see in mainstream media. I can think of times adults in diapers were used in comedy (Like that Yakuza scene.) but I don't believe there's much that scares people about a grown man or woman in diapers. Normally that visual illicits laughter towards an otherwise able bodied person in a humuliating position, or sorrow when it's someone who needs them (Like someone who's in hospice.)
I can think of Killer concepts that could wear diapers and that would work, but not because the diaper adds anything horrific, just that it would 'make sense' for the killer to have it. But those concepts would work just fine without it.
I'd accept being entirely wrong though. Just because it's not my phobia doesn't mean it wouldn't distress others to go against (Which is the point after all.)
If a partially nude, diapered man starts power-walking towards me with a hatchet, you better believe that I am going to be terrified for my life.
-
As a killer main, I wish solo was stronger as well. It's not very fun to stomp on an extremely uncoordinated team. I'd rather have solo have access to the info tools they need to keep up with SWF. It would make the game more fun, since more teams would have a fighting chance.
-
after we get the vore killer, can we get a diaper killer?

Here's my last post in this thread:
You have probably read everything in this thread so far. Here's my stance:
Accessibility options are fantastic. I, for one, would benefit a great deal from having them due to having frequent headaches that are triggered by loud noises. However, being rude and overly-demanding does not get you anything. If anything, it pushes people against your cause to an extreme degree and it shows people your true character: the kind of person that thinks being horrible to others gets you what you want. You know what kind of person that is? A horrible person. (who would have thought?)
If you have photosensitive issues, no one is forcing you to play video games. You can do something else with your time that is not actively hazardous to your physical well-being. This is really not complicated, I'm not trying to be mean or belittle anyone. Just take care of your self, you only get one life and it's not worth losing it over something as frivolous as playing a video game.
It's absolutely my own fault for getting too into it, and I solemnly admit to that. But I still stand by this: Why play video games if it is dangerous for you to do so? Don't you love yourself? I would not let someone I love do something that could give them a seizure, and neither should you. There are many things to do with your spare time other than play video games. If you think any of this is some kind of controversial statement, I implore you, consider my motivations. I just want you to look after yourself and treat others with kindness.

The issue I have with this though is that you can't prove that they don't have photosensitivity/aren't disabled, and it's not impossible for allies to fight for something simply because they don't have it. In the same way a cishet person can fight for LGBTQ+ rights, an able-bodied person can advocate for people who are disabled. Honestly, it tends to take those people standing up for something to get people to listen because companies tend to not listen to minorities themselves.
I know the DBD community can be bad sometimes, every community can, but this isn't a bad cause to be a bit pushy for considering how many people it affects. Like, yeah, if people came together and demanded something silly and was being very loud and vocal about it like making PH's butt big again I'd understand thinking people are entitled because it's something small. This is a legitimate concern though, and kinda needs to be addressed. Disabled people shouldn't just be left out because they're disabled.
Again, perfectly reasonable.
Like I said, accessibility options would be great. For example, I would personally love an option to turn off the in-game music, since it gives me headaches sometimes.
I just dislike the attitude of the people advocating for the options. Why would BHVR be inclined to listen to someone about their disability issues when that someone is being an overly-aggressive bully about it? Why would making demands like you're picketing at a political speech change anyone's mind about anything? If anything, it just turns people off of the idea of making accessibility options, because you'd be letting the picketers into your community.
In my opinion, the ends DO NOT justify the means. There's no need for people to be rude and twist people's arms to get what they want. Being polite and rational is what gets you what you want in this world.

Oh okay so we should be able to mod DBD to remove the photosensitive bits then? Great, glad we've come to a solution.
Calling people with disabilities stuck up and entitled because they want to be able to experience the same things as everybody else is able to is... well it's an odd hill to die on to say the least. How dare they want to stand a chance at having a normal life where they can experience things the same way as able bodied people! How self-centered of a concept to not want to be alienated because of a gentic trait you cannot control.
It's definitely a hill you've chosen to die on. Not exactly the best one though.
My point is that you shouldn't expect a stranger you've never met, that lives in a place you've never been to, to do something for free just because you asked them on the internet. It's the definition of entitled, thinking that you "deserve" something in exchange for nothing. A stranger you have never met owes you nothing.
Being able to play one specific video game is not "a chance at having a normal life." There's many, many, MANY video games other than Dead by Daylight. Not to mention that there are many massively popular board and card games that don't need a TV or monitor to play, meaning there is a 0% chance that they can trigger someone's photosensitivity issues.
For a better example of what I mean, I get frequent cluster migraines (a type of migraine painful enough that you can't even open your eyes until it's gone). They're usually caused by certain kinds of music, by dogs barking, or by people shouting. Do I demand that people stop making the kind of music that gives me migraines? Do I demand people to put down their dogs so I can go on nature walks without getting headaches? Do I demand that people having fun with their friends be quiet and go home?
No. I suck it up and deal with it. I can just go somewhere else or put in earplugs. This Earth does not bend to my whim, the people on it are simply living their best lives. What right do I have to tell others to change how they live, merely because I am different? None whatsoever, is the answer. I don't expect people to give me special treatment just because I lost the genetic lottery, and have minor brain damage from motor accidents (cluster migraines are hereditary, and become more common if you have high testosterone and brain damage).
You can't claim the moral high ground in this argument against me. I'm the kind of person that accessibility features are for.
If you have a problem, you're the one that needs to solve it. DbD can give someone seizures? Then they shouldn't play it. Simple as. Expecting someone else to put in the work to change something because you think you're special is just most "I have the brain of a 2 year old" thing I can imagine. Am I going to listen to dubstep and then tell Skrillex to stop making dubstep songs with frequent tempo changes and high pitched noises? No, I'm going to listen to something else.
-
Extremely fun killer to play as. You can pull off a lot of giga-brain plays because you can literally be in two places at once.
Against? Idk, I don't think I've ever played against a good Twins player in my life. Most of them straight up don't understand anything about the killer, so they just miss their pounce and get kicked 20 times and then lose. In theory, I'd enjoy it since you need to actually work as a team to do well against Twins. Gotta stick together to keep Victor from going on a slugging spree (kick him after he gets a down).
-
Eh, most people just straight up suck at this game (myself included). Which means most of the random people you play with in solo queue are, surprise, going to suck.
If you don't want to deal with solo, just don't play solo. I know I certainly don't ever play solo survivor. It's a team role, after all. There are literally thousands of DbD discord servers you can join, and you can nearly instantly get a full team of four competent players with as little effort as typing "Swf?"
I get you're just venting, but the solution to your problem already exists.

the lack of sympathy in these replies is genuinely astonishing i'm gonna be honest
If someone has photosensitivity issues, I don't think that staring at a screen of LED lights that are rapidly changing color is a good idea in the first place. If they want to play games, there are plenty of games that don't need a TV screen to play them and have large communities built around them.
It's just strange to me that someone would do something that they know is harmful or dangerous for them, and then blame the person that made it instead of simply not using the product. It's like a diabetic complaining they can't drink energy drinks because they have so much sugar in them, but they could just drink black coffee instead.

According to insider sources, DbD's version of EAC was greatly improved recently (albeit now very similar to another popular game's version of EAC).
It is generally easier for the new version of EAC to identify and ban cheaters, so people that subtle cheat on main will be getting banned more often without even getting reported. Blatant cheaters can just use one of their 100's of alt accounts tho. Basically just need a way to identify if someone is using a code injector or hex editor and then boot them if they are.

tangentially related, but is there a visualization of Deathslinger's projectile hitbox anywhere?

Fun is a lot more important than balance, by a significant margin. Balance is generally a complete non-issue in game design until you start running into issues where a handful of strategies are overwhelmingly dominant over all other strategies. Even then, it can still be a relatively small issue as long as there is not total strategic collapse of the game.
For example, in Smash Bros. Melee, there is a very small number of viable characters. However, this is a non-issue in Melee. Among those characters, none of them are so strong that playing one particular character guarantees victory. The top 8 characters are all capable of beating each other. (this is common in high level play in many games: the number of viable choices goes down as skill increases)
The problem isn't always the strength of the dominant strategies either, but rather the fact that it artificially reduces the number of viable choices that a player can make. Although Nurse and Blight are objectively the best killers in the game because they are so strong, we do not see strategic collapse among the killer population.
Even relatively low-tier killers see plenty of play and are capable of beating strong survivor teams if the player makes good gameplay decisions. If survivors were so strong that ONLY Nurse and Blight could win, then we would see collapse at that level. Nurse and Blight are common due to their strength, but are not the only viable way to win as killer.
We did see strategic collapse occur on the survivor side prior to 6.1.0, however. We all know the four meta perks of the apocalypse: BT, Dead Hard, DS, Unbreakable. These four perks were so overwhelmingly better than the other 200~ perks in the game, that they were the only four worth running. This is true strategic collapse: no other strategy was as viable as "run the best perks in the game." (We saw this a little bit in the killer meta with "Ruin, Undying, Tinkerer, Corrupt Intervention", but not anywhere to the same degree as the survivor meta.)
In addition to being strong, the metapocalypse perks were extremely unfun to play against. DS + Unbreakable made survivors effectively invincible for a a full minute. Add BT + DH into that, and a recently unhooked survivor can make suicidal plays to protect their teammates with zero risk of any kind. The end result is that killer players generally felt helpless against this kind of gameplay. Because they were.
So, I hope you have a decent understanding of what truly poor balancing looks like compared to acceptable balance. Truly poor balancing looks like "if you want to win, use this strategy. Otherwise, you will lose because your opponent is already using it." Acceptable balance is "This strategy is much stronger than the others, but can still be beaten by many other strategies."
Which brings us to unfun vs unbalanced. As long as the game isn't completely revolving around a particular strategy/character/perk, we are in an ok balancing position. This means keeping things balanced is actually pretty easy, and making things fun should take a much higher priority since it is much more difficult and time consuming to get right.
Fun is subjective and nebulous, and varies from person to person. One person will think your game is very fun because you must sit around and balance spreadsheets for hours, and another will think your game is horrible for the exact same reason (one person finds tactically doing gens very fun, another finds it grueling and miserable). However, if players are at least playing your game, you can assume that they all like it for one reason or another. The matter is finding what the majority of people enjoy about the game, and leaning into it. HARD.
Finding unfun parts of your game is relatively similar. You look for pressure points that make players want to stop playing, and address them. No one finds mending twenty times against Legion fun or entertaining in any way. No one like getting slugged on the ground for 4 minutes because the killer is gloating that they won. No one liked waiting out old Dead Hard. No one likes having their chases go to waste because players can reset indefinitely at Circle of Healing.
Games need to have some kind of stress or frustration to them in order to receive an emotional payoff when you succeed at your objective. However, excess stress will cause players to find that the payoff is not worth the effort. Finding "fun" is about balancing effort vs reward. High effort and extremely low rewards leads to players not wanting to play (e.g. solo queue survivor post 6.1.0, and killer before 6.1.0). Finding and alleviating the pressure points that make players want to quit playing makes the other stress sources more bearable, since putting up with them is now worth the effort with the more intense stress sources no longer piling on top of that.
I'll stop now lol
TL;DR:
Balance is secondary to fun, as balancing issues must be VERY extreme before they start to impact fun in a meaningful way. Fun, however, is far more difficult to manage as it is a highly complex equation of effort to reward.
