You're playing with some of the worst people gaming has to offer. So no...that's not happening.
For a while, it was trendy for people to call a SWAT team on someone they were playing against in CoD in an attempt to get them killed irl.
Dead by Daylight is sunshine and rainbow land lmfao
-
It pretty much entirely depends on time of day. I'm from NA and play without a VPN, for context. Will be different if you are playing with a VPN.
Play at 8am to 2pm, and you will mostly play against people that do nothing but play Dead by Daylight all day. I also see the highest number of hackers during this time.
2pm to 6pm is mostly a mixed bag. You can get fair matches and unfair matches, sweaty matches and meme games. It's like old red ranks.
6pm to 12am is when a lot of people get on, so you will be playing against casual players that simply do not have enough spare time to get good at the game. Killer games tend to be absolute stomps, solo queue games tend to be painful.
12am to 8am is... interesting. You'll be playing with a lot of people that are extremely tired and cannot play well at all. You'll also be playing against fully alert night owls. Matches at this time tend to be either sleep deprived meme games or extremely short stomp fests.
-
Imagine if you checkmate someone in 12 turns in chess, and they call you a sweaty tryhard loser.
I feel about the same when I see three injured survivors cluster around the hook and all go down within seconds of each other and they say the killer is sweaty. The truth is, those players made an embarrassingly bad mistake and lost the game for it.
-
There really isn't a "should" and "shouldn't" when it comes to statistics, only an "is" and "isn't." Looking at the end result in a purely mathematical sense and then trying to engineer a desired result by manipulating things behinds the scenes generally ends in disaster when the thing you're trying to manipulate is the product of human behaviour.
That being said, players should be able to realistically believe that they have a solid chance at winning. 60/40 is pretty good in that regard. Killers get a 2k or 3k most games, and survivors have a very reasonable chance to escape if they aren't bumbling around.
-
I'll occasionally dodge teams of four medkits if I'm playing some gutter-tier killer for a daily. Otherwise, I just slap on Franklin's and call it day.
I rarely dodge prestige 100 survivors if I'm having a bad day, but really only if there are multiple of them and I'm very salty.
-
I don't do that because I'm not a toxic PoS. If someone want's to stop playing a video game, I'm not gonna claim the moral high ground and force them to keep playing lmao
-
Instead of being Boon: Self-Care, Circle of Healing should have been Boon: We'll Make It. Still very strong, but not quite as strong as infinite self heals.

I completely agree.
i still don’t see how it’s a matter of effort and not the reasons I mentioned?
AS a hobby game dev, it would take maybe a week or less to implement non-verbal communication tools... specifically, a week or less from a single dev.

Do their teammates deserve that, though?
You said it yourself, survivor is dependant on teamwork. Should you be expected to continue failing because you're matched with players that can't be bothered to convey information? If we had some decent passive information tools, you'd at least have a lifeline to make good decisions with, to try and compensate for less team-oriented teammates.
Remember, solo survivor has an information deficit right now, so you're flying more blind than you really should be if your teammates won't ping or type in this scenario, exactly where you'd be right now with no changes implemented.
Yes, that is my point. You must climb your way out of MMR hell, just like every other game in existence.
It doesn't matter if it's pings, basekit kindred, permanent wall-hacks on all allied survivors, ect. People incapable of using this information effectively will always be at the bottom of the barrel. Just like every other team game ever made, solo is hell.

They may be slow to bring these kind of features that the community ask for but it’s definitely not a matter of effort but prioritization and available resources/what the higher ups greenlight. We see they are putting in much effort all the time (minus QA which got better and is also probably because not enough resources)
It's been six years since this game came out, and many, many, MANY similar games (some even decades older than DbD) have had much better communication tools for solo player in a team.
There's really no genuine excuse for not including comm tools in team-based game.

Imprinting.
If the "GG wp" majorly comes after a lose, however crushing, and nothing after a win, initiated by the loser or as an answer, then over time it loses its polite meaning and gets mentally connected to losses and won't be taken as polite but condescending or pitty. And I guess no one likes getting pittied when they feel down or frustrated.
Maybe certain people shouldn't play multiplayer games if they are that sensitive. No offence intended, but seriously.
Just take it on the chin and keep your head up. If losing at a game hurts you, find something else to do with your time.

@jesterkind said:
Voice chat isn't a good idea, and the language barrier is one of the many great reasons why.
As for text commands... that's more doable, but it's what I'd classify as "active" information exchange. IE, it requires your teammates to not only bother using it at all, but to know how and when to use it most effectively. What this game needs before it can get away with active information exchange is some robust passive information exchange, like the status icons and the ability to see your teammate's builds, and like a basekit Kindred, etc etc.
I'm not against text commands or a ping wheel at all, but we need something that isn't dependant on teammates bothering to use it first.
imo, players that fail to use pings, ect, correctly DESERVE to bubble down to bottom MMR. If you cannot play a team game like a team player would, you should not be put in a scenario where your team skills are the deciding factor on how well your team does.
Survivor is too dependent on teamwork to implement a system that can really only functions in a "every man for himself" environment. Makes more senses to have a non-verbal system that allows solo players to communicate on a similar level to swf.
-
If someone is trying to be polite to you, and YOU are the one that takes offense...
maybe the problem is not that someone is trying to be polite and sportsmanlike to you, but that you are overly sensitive and mistake normal interactions as personal attacks?
-
that would require to much effort. BHVR isn't capable of putting in work that would actually improve the player experience.
-
Too many cheaters, and broken laggy servers.
I play maybe once or twice a week. I love the game, but I can't deal with playing every day like I could back when the servers actually worked and there wasn't cheaters every other game.
-
I play against against at least one blatant cheater or very obvious subtle cheater a day as killer.
I get maybe one DC every other match lmao. DCs are actually worse than cheaters imo, bc cheaters are actually pretty funny sometimes.

With Minecraft Steve and Alyx as the new survivors

There's a lot of people with P100 characters. They mostly play the game for a living though.

Oh ye I was memeing, I definitely understand how hopeless it can feel when outmatched by survivors. There have been suggestions in the past to let killers open the gates early and start the EGC when there are still gens left, but simultaneously deactivating any EGC perks like noed and blood warden so that killers have a forfeit option earlier in the match like how survivors frequently ragequit on hook. I've even had a more fleshed out idea:
Have a shrine in the basement that only that specific killer can interact with. If they do, the match ends: all survivors alive escape (including if downed and bleeding out,) and it can not be activated if any survivors are on any hooks. Everybody gets any points they accumulated (including the killer) and any additional bonuses (especially regarding the survival category) are applied as normal.
There's even room for flavor animations for all of these things. The killer could have a first person animation of the entity entombing them for punishment/prep for the next trial, survivors could be pulled into the ground and teleported to the exit gates then flung out of them, etc. Hell, they could use those fancy new wesker animations to do it.
If they're not going to address suicide on hook in any meaningful way, they have to give killers a way to get out of trials without eating a penalty or afking and playing a better game while they wait. They've got to address one or the other if they want pairty in their dc punishment system.
This would also more or less solve the hacker problem.
-
It's a risk/reward play on the survivor's part to 99 the gate.
Leave it closed, and there's a potential chance that you could get caught on your way to the door since you need to open it and then exit it. Open it, and you can just walk right out the gate, but the EGC begins and your teammates might be in a dicey situation because of it.
Edit:
As killer, just pop the gate open if you see all three lights on. With the clock ticking sooner than normal, you can give yourself a small advantage.

I used to spend hundreds of hours in Left 4 Dead (115 h) and Left 4 Dead 2 (544 h). Also, Paladins (314 h) used to be a big thing for me, back when they were Early Access. Some other multiplayers here and there, like Counter-Strike 1.6, Hearthstone, PAYDAY 2, though not that much time went into those. So yeah, definitely wasn't a newcomer to toxicity and/or dumb people, when I started playing Dead by Daylight.
Though DbD was my first multiplayer to cross threshold of thousand hours in-game. And is the only one to do that 'till this day.
Only other completive multiplayer games that I have over 1,000 in would be Battleborn (servers are shut down as of February this year) and Dark Souls. You definitely really have to love something to put that much time into it.

Bodyblocking, looping, chaining loops, Dead Hard, Head On, flashlight saves, Flashbang, 99 Sprint Burst, call outs in SWF, the dozens of techs that survivor has
Compare your ability to play any of those killers or use those perk or techniques to someone that has played this game for thousands upon thousands of hours, then come back and eat your humble pie.

Did any of them get any chance to work on any gen, anywhere in the match?
How does it 'barely matter'? I'd like to remind you that she's got the entire match locked down really early, and has insane pressure and control. But apparently that's not good enough and killer now need not just the 4K, but they need the 4K in under 2 minutes.
The point is that the survivors can throw the game and it still drags out for 10 or so minutes. They deliberately CHOSE not to work on gens, since their teammates have infinite picksies upsies.
If even one of the survivors was hard committing to gens, it would have been a three or four man out. Instead, the survivors were just having fun with a troll match and vibing out. I seriously doubt any of those players were planning on escaping.
It barely mattered because if the survivors were trying to escape instead of trying to troll and be silly, the killer in the video would have genuinely been unable to really do much of anything. She down each survivor like what, 5 times? 10 times? The Twins are the only killer in the game that can have that much pressure, but still only hang onto the game by a thread the entire time.
I love the Twins, but Lord are they miserable to play at times.
Playing a video game should not be a constantly miserable and hyper-stressful uphill battle, which is what the 6.1.0 update tried to do for killer.

I specifically pointed out that the first slug in the match, she was completely unopposed. Everyone that showed up, showed up AFTER she greeded for the next slug.
EDIT: Also worthy of note is that she mentions 'she won the last few ones', despite the slugging nerfs.
EDIT2: The video just gets worse from there. 'See how easy it is to bully the killer?', she says, as she slugs the same survivor for the, what, sixth time in a row? No one has touched a gen in two minutes because they simply can't. She has complete control over the match and is throwing a tantrum that she doesn't get her free win at 2 minutes (Skipping 8 hook states) and instead has to work for it, because she's that adamant about getting the slug victory instead of just taking her W and hooking.
if the survivors all group up and commit mass suicide by Victor and it STILL takes forever to win, I'm sure you can understand why she'd be frustrated.
Watching your enemy make every possible blunder and have it barely matter since they can just smash the undo button is truly an agonizing experience,

Mediocre but fun killer. Like Clown.
-
Midwich is a free win for me, unless I'm playing a killer I'm truly terrible with.
When I hear that siren, in my head I'm like "ggs, gl next"

Sadako needs some love. Easily the worst killer in the game.
-
yup! This is coming at some point. I'm personally pretty hype for it, makes testing things out easier.

Everyone loves it when I play Stealthslinger, so I vibe lol
-
Mostly I am curious. People seem to flip their lid when someone uses a perk, killer, item, strategy, ect, they don't like, or someone does something """"toxic"""" like say "gg" in endgame chat.
Really feels like a lot of people that play DbD have never played a multiplayer game before.

Tunneling may be skillful because you're actually catching them, but aside from like one or two scenarios camping is 110% a bot play by an unskilled and outclassed killer , there's no defending it in a way that actually makes you skilled "You have to look out for other survivors while camping" oh wow what skill lmao you say survivors are the same on gens? Well at least survivors have to hit skill checks the equivalent would be if you camped and had to hit skill checks or took an auto stun while standing there but nope you can stand in front of the hook with one hand on your mouse and one free for whatever and still get a down if they go for the unhook without looking around at all.
If I camp the hook like a bot, and then the survivors run into me like bots and die, who is the better bot?
-
It's a pretty brutal perk. Sets up snowball scenarios like very few other perks can.
I enjoy running it on many killers.

"Hey, you three! I have a daily. Give me the Meg and I'll let you go.....".
I dunno man.
Sounds like it could lead to some funny moments in game. The social aspect of this game and interacting with others is so fun, there's lots of really funny people that play this game.
Either way, I'd enjoy it. Like a little bit of banter here and there, setting the stage for a truly legendary match, ect. Chatting with your fellow gamers is so fun, not sure why everyone is so against it.
-
There's also the matter of knowing when to camp and tunnel.
Recognizing that multiple survivors are around, or having a hook in your three gen. Camping at the wrong time against the wrong team WILL lose you the game. Camping against survivors that rush hook or survivors that happily cluster around the hook so they can stand there and watch their teammate die while they do nothing is a good play. If you leave your queen in killing range of my pawn, why would I not take your queen?
Knowing who to tunnel and when to tunnel, as well. If someone is a little too eager to take chase after getting unhooked, they are probably running OtR + DS and you should drop chase. Tunneling very early is also a pretty bad idea, since you are only pressuring one survivor at a time and the other three are free to do gens until you have him on hook.
That being said, saying doing objectives as survivor doesn't take skill is a little misguided. Knowing when to commit to gen with the killer close, knowing which gens to do and which order to do them in, knowing when to get off your gen and go for unhook, ect. Survivors have a constant balancing act of being altruistic and doing gens. Too much altruism, no gens are done and everyone dies. Too much gens, everyone is injured and people are going to second stage for free or dying on hook. Survivor takes just as much game sense as killer.

"I'm not misplaying, I'm not making mistakes"
She says, leaving the survivor slugged on the ground while no one is around to stop her from hooking, then spending about 20 seconds fishing for another slug, failing, then anticipating the Head-on play and not playing in against it.

I commented about this video in another thread, she made mistakes. Its called being greedy. if she wanted to hook she could've. She didn't even attempt too. This video isn't the "gotcha" you think it is. At one point she had 3 people slugged. You telling me she didn't have the time to hook atleast one of them? She absolutely did, if she wasn't being greedy.

In her case it was her fault, she could have hooked them so many times but she didnt, she went for slugs even when fully aware they all have Unbreakable, she made horrible decissions and they just kept getting up over and over.
- 0:20 she should have picked Feng plus you can see Claudette running towards the locker, she switches back to Charlotte and can snag someone out of the locker.
- 2:10 she should have picked Feng she could use the corner to avoid the flashlight.
- 2:20 she should have picked Feng after downing Claudette but she went for Jane who didnt have a flashlight, smart move would be pick up Feng, hook in front of the Saloon and then go back to either go after Claudette or Jane after unhook.
- 2:30 again not picking anyone.
- 3:40 same train of actions, downing several people but deciding to not pick anyone, Jane didnt bring a flashlight so its safe to pick up with her around.
- 3:55 again switching to Victor instead of going to pickup someone.
- 4:05 same playstyle, downs someone sees someone else on the distance and goes for them instead of picking up people already downed.
And thats in the first 4 minutes of video, are you telling us this wasnt the Killers fault?.
You all fail to understand that she's also slugging to avoid getting flashlight saved. That's why she says "I didn't make a mistake and I got punished."
Dwight, Claudette, and Feng Min all had flashlights. When she was slugging, one of them or multiple of them were around. She couldn't take her hooks, because she'd get flashlight saved and be back to square one.

They do not have a steady foundation for balancing, and its part of why they've been so awful with maps. They need to make maps that bad survivors are going to be able to last for more than 2 seconds in a chase, while good survivors last less than 5 minutes. Bad killers to get downs in less than 5 minutes, while good killers take more than 2 seconds. High tier killers to have a less stark advantage over low tier ones.
There is too much chaos in this game to balance, but unfortunately they are unable to focus on the most important aspect of that, just like in the other elements of the game: They're unable to balance for the bad without giving a massive advantage to the good.
Pretty much this. I'm thankful I don't have a job as difficult as balancing Dead by Daylight.
-
In my opinion, the solution is not as complicated as everyone thinks it needs to be.
The problem with camping as killer is that it is extremely cost-effective. You face camp one guy, now the survivors need to unhook with a minimum of two survivors to guarantee an unhook. That leaves only one survivor on gens. Huge benefit to the killer for very little cost.
If the timer for each hook stage was 120 seconds instead of 60 seconds, it would NEVER be worth it to hardcore camp as killer. Each survivor can finish a gen in 90 seconds, then come in with Reassaurance and add 30 seconds to the hook. This gives the two unhooking survivors 60 seconds to get an unhook vs a face camper, while the last survivor finishes a fourth gen.
It would make face camping a horrible strategy.
-
It's a fairly strong survivor map against many killers.
Top killers don't mind Saloon, and generally excell at it. Lots of grass for Spirit to track you, and it's easy to pressure gens with mobility killers.
But killers that rely entirely on their strong 1v1 like Slinger and Clown have a lot of trouble there due to pallet density and strong loops.
-
Playing against Clown is pretty meh. I love his aesthetic and his music though.
I really enjoy playing as him though. Leaning into his strong 1v1 with Save the Best for Last and Infectious Fright turns him into a snowball machine. Plus, love to show off my goth clown drip
