This game is worse than any other game I've played, sans old CoD
See, that's just crazy to me. I think a lot of people here are just effected by recency bias.
You can pretty much pull any competitive multiplayer game out of your library, and you are guaranteed to NEVER get interactions like "ggs <3," "yeah that map with that killer is really hard, good luck next game", "you're so funny/cute, I'm glad we got to play together."
Hop on Ark, Rust, League of Legends, SMITE, DOTA, R6: Siege, Halo, Overwatch, hell even TF2 or L4D2 and you will be bombarded by screaming maniacs and toxic tryhards that are losing their mind over every little thing that goes wrong.
DbD is really chill compared to, like, every other competitive game out there. Are there bad experiences in DbD? Yeah, for sure. But it's so rare that I get maybe one toxic gamer every like, what, 20 games? 50 games?
The toxicity problem is blown completely out of proportion, because we're all forgetting just how horrible it is outside of sunshine land.
-
A killer with a jump button. That's it, that's their entire power.
It would be like, the best killer the game has ever seen lol

Not rare at all in my experience.
idk what you guys are doing to get people mad at you, then. This game's community is sunshine and rainbow land compared to pretty much every other major multiplayer game.
-
First chapter I'm prolly gonna skip entirely. Not even gonna buy the killer with shards.
I'll get Renato for Blood Rush, and that's it.
-
The people in DbD that are like legit insane are much lower than in other games, imo. Sure, there's lots of delusional players that freak out over every little thing, but what you are experiencing is extremely rare.
It's very likely that what's going on is that you made a toxic streamer/content creator mad and they sent their fanbase after you. That sort of next-level out of game harassment is something you'd only see if someone with a large audience got triggered by something you did (probably something benign, like not unhooking them against a facecamping bubba).
Just my theory. Back when I played SUPER sweaty, I never got any kind of out of game or off-platform harassment despite getting hate and death threats on a near-daily basis (I'm an American, so that doesn't really scare me at all). It was all in end game chat or through messaging systems like Xbox or Steam.
It'll prolly die down after a while if you just stop paying attention to it.

Sacrificial Ward should be Brown
-
Deathslinger hits two out of three.
He's strong enough that he doesn't need any help, and he's not oppressive enough to need nerfs.
His add-ons are little boring tho. His reload add-ons could be made half basekit, and his reeling and ADS movement speed add-on need changes since they do nothing.

CoH doesn't take 32 seconds, it takes 21 seconds. Additionally, the reality is that the amount of time a survivor spends healing themselves is less than the amount of time it took the killer to land that hit. That is the problem with CoH. At least with medkits, they have a limited amount of uses. But the boon is forever, even if you cleanse it. When 2 survivors heal each other, then it takes 32 seconds (16 total seconds, but 2 survivors) which tilts it more into the neutral zone.
The reality is, CoH and many other perks are just reasons why tunneling is the meta. Better to tunnel someone off the hook, and only deal with 1 health state, then to deal with dead hard, and 3 health states, and trying to spread pressure that just gets deleted with CoH.
I went to go check, and it is indeed 21 seconds. Strange, imo.
Still, I find CoH to be more help than hindrance as killer. I play killers that get fast downs (i.e. Slinger), so I don't mind if survivors are healthy when I find them. 21 seconds rubbing their belly is better than 21 seconds on a gen, imo.

This chapter dropped the ball. Hard. Yet another weak M1 killer that can do nothing but hold 3 gens and stall the game for 40 minutes and lose anyway.

The only one off the top of my head is Anaxandra. Fairly chill streamer.
Thanks y'all!
Doesn't look like D3ad plays much Slinger (9 Slinger videos out of almost 800 videos), and Anaxandra hasn't streamed or uploaded much in about a year or two, but thanks anyways for the pointers.
I'm pretty much always looking for Slinger players where I can find them.

We need a killer that straight up has a jump button. It would be the most popular and most broken killer in the game for a long time haha

Why do killers go out of their way to make survivors life miserable for no reason. I get it survivors can be toxic and teabag and taunt you. But there are so many games where the killer was toxic to me for no reason. Some of the time my friends ran the killer too hard and i was the only one they could catch. Then they would hit me repeatedly on hook and shake their head up and down. For what? Cause your having a skill issue? There are times were ive had games were i was slugged to death sitting right underneath the hook. Once again for what?? You won why make me stay in the match longer? Then those people who slug everyone on the ground to death. These are unnecessary things that some killers are doing. Just end the match. Some of these matches i feel they want to make survivors dc and get enjoyment out of it. The only reason i dont dc anymore is to not have a penalty. I honestly wish there was a surrender button especially for those moments were the match is clearly over. I discourage my friends from being toxic to killers who did nothing extra to us. So why do some many fogwhispers and killer mains encourage being toxic but when its the other way around yall like to cry about it. Im not gonna lie im not a positive person but i remember how it feels to be teabagged by survivors who beat me so why would i do the same thing to a killer when im playing survivor. Im used to being tunneled and camped but the holding the game hostage is too much for me. Dont leave me slugged under a hook just kill me.
You should try using the Enter key more often when you type
-
Yeah basically. Everyone is sweating their asses off like there's a $20 Applebee's gift card on the line, but this is the single worst game you could possibly play sweaty in.
Playing to win in this game is miserable to say the least, coming from a former wannabe comp sweatlord. DbD is at it's best when you're just being silly with the other players.
-
Basically Endurance meta and healing meta makes Hag extremely difficult to play. She's still good, just much harder.
-
I'm actually 100% in favor of Bloodlust existing.
Dead by Daylight is not an MLG pro esport. It's at it's best as a fun, casual romp with plenty of laughs on both sides. If a particular player is very, VERY bad at killer, it's not the end of the world for them to get two free hits after spending one minute to get each hit.
Unskilled killers have Bloodlust, and unskilled survivors have hold W + pre-drop every pallet. One of these things is not as easy to fix as the other, so Bloodlust should stay so fledgling killers can get a taste for blood.
To summarize, Bloodlust does literally nothing in like 90% of games, but it's still important for it to exist as "anti-infinite insurance" and a helping hand for newbies.
-
I've had that happen too. I had three people slugged, and two got out bc I couldn't hook more than one of them.
-
uh, maybe it synergizes with Tinkerer and Bitter Murmur? Like you sneak up to a gen that's almost done, then it pops and blocks all vaults and you get wall hacks for a bit? Then also slap on Fearmonger so they can't Sprint Burst away.
Not sure. It's a clunky, gimmicky perk.

Usually the P100 survivors I see are the ones with big fan bases. Feng Min, Quinton, Nea, Cheryl, and Kate. Claudette, Steve, Yui, and Rebecca as well.
There is nothing on this Earth I fear more than a P100 Jeff, Bill, or Ash.
-
They should have just reverted the buff. The perk would still be OK in certain niches, and not too hard to deal with.
-
Most multiplayer games have a progression system where you need to unlock items, weapons, characters, perks, ect. Grinding to unlock Dead Hard in DbD isn't too different from grinding to unlock Double Health in Call of Duty.
The major difference here is that there is SO MUCH content in DbD that the grind to get 100% perks looks completely insane to most people. I mean, we've got like 7 years of perks to unlock at this point. It's really just suffering from success and drowning in content.
-
Pretty much exactly why I don't run Scourge Hooks. It sucks when they are all placed in areas you aren't planning to defend, but they feel OP if you get a Pain Res in the middle of your 3 gen.
Who'da thunk that RNG reliant perks are inconsistent?
-
Dead Hard is probably the only exhaustion perk that legitimately feels unfair to go against.
If I see a survivor boost away with Sprint Burst, Balanced, or Lithe I'm like "aight, that's fair." But swinging into a Dead Hard always feels like I got cheated out of a victory in a chase.
...not that I actually have too much trouble with the perk in general. The mind-games around baiting it out can be fun, but doing it like ten to twelve times a game makes me really hate going against Dead Hard.
There's actually nothing you can do to make Dead Hard more fair or balanced, short of complete redesign. The concept of "you can parry a hit / become invincible for half a second" in a game where you fighting tooth and nail for something as meager as half a meter of distance is simply too strong.
Honestly? Dead Hard should give your allies a speed boost when you take a protection hit. It fits thematically, and would still be a strong perk.
-
What @sizzlingmario4 said. An Injured survivor going into Deep Wound doesn't trigger "on health state lost" events.
You can use this with perks like Trail of Torment on Slinger as well: breaking the chain and putting the Injured survivor in Deep Wounds doesn't cause you to lose Trail of Torment's undetectable.
-
Most Demos I play against are your average giga sweaty player. Hardcore tunnel the first guy out and set up portals for defending a 3 gen with CoB + Eruption.
Kinda leaves a sour taste in my mouth when it comes to that killer, I associate him with games that have a $20 Applebee's gift card on the line.
I don't have much to say about playing as him, since his audio is so deafening I never play him. When I do play him, there's not much survivors actually can do in terms of playing against him. You force them into lose-lose scenarios where if they try to juke your Shred, you cancel and M1. If they don't try to juke your Shred, they get hit in animation lock.
Hot take: Demo is pretty boring.
-
guys, this is obviously not serious. The joke is that Self-Care is so laughably slow that you have time to click M1 in a corner and then go take a bathroom break
-
it's really audible and loud, and I have legitimately terrible hearing.
Are you playing without headphones on?
-
I pretty much only dodge players with default EGS names (e.g. "Player10508678330") or people with non-legit Legacy or Legacy and private profile, since they are usually cheaters.
I also dodge lobbies with multiple Blendettes and Blendadams, since the game is going to be an obscenely boring walking simulator for most of the match.
-
If the Otz tech doesn't work, missing an M1 purpose will pretty much always do the trick
-
@Veroles said:
This is a perk you can only use "ONCE" a match. Ofc it can be annoying in certain situations + can cost you a match but i don't see any reason that that would be "OP". I think that is the only "okay" perk what they bring in with that chapter. I thiink this kind of perk is something that you have to see live on servers for a while to judge it. From what i have seen it's just a perk where you can make "plays" with but it also can does not have much impact at all in a lot of situations.
Once a match... per survivor. If you want to play nice and spread hooks, you have a chance to get screwed over by this perk four times a game.
I always said that if old Dead Hard for distance could only be used once per match, you would still see all four survivors run it every game just because of how insanely strong it is to press a button at any time and get free distance.
BR + SB is old Dead Hard for distance on giga steroids. Press a button and gain 18 meters of distance over 3 seconds. For context, it takes 30 seconds for a 4.6 killer running in a straight line trying to catch up to a survivor running in a straight line that is 18m away (the killer closes 0.6 meters of distance per second against a survivor running at the default speed of 4 meters per second).
There is a reason why people want this perk to get nerfed into oblivion before ever playing against it. You can tell how completely busted it is at first glance without really needing to test anything out.
The only way to guarantee not dealing with Blood Rush + Sprint Burst is to hard tunnel off hook, camp someone to death if they are second stage, or play Plague so survivors can't heal easily. It's a perk with ZERO counterplay that is straight up just free distance that is always 100% safe.
-
There's just not a whole lot of interesting things going on in DbD at the moment.
Two boring chapters in a row, during the most boring meta we have ever seen.
I'd rather be playing a game where there's something exciting to talk about.
Edit: Things will probably pick back up when the next liscened killer comes out

That's not her lore at all, lol, she became a killer because she's a sadistic stalker who wanted to rid herself of corporate competition and then gained a taste for doing it. One of the cooler killer backstories in a while, as far as I'm concerned.
I think it's fine she took some inspiration from her father's manga, I think that's a neat detail.
If you like it, more power to you 😊
I didn't read the whole thing tbh, just one of her descriptions was "she was inspired by the dark mangas created by her father"
I'm in the minority of thinking that the name "Deathslinger" is unironically badass, so if you think she's cool I'm not gonna tell you she's not

I think the overwhelming negativity about this chapter is justified. The killer is horribly out of place, in fact, I'd argue even more out of place than Trickster. Her aesthetic looks more like a comic book/cartoon villain than someone in a horror game, and her power is lackluster at best. Not to mention situational/niche perks and one of the most unimaginative/boring mori's in the entire game.
I've played DBD since 2018 and purchased every chapter so far, yet I can say with confidence this is the first DBD chapter I will point blank not buy. Of course I still love DBD and will eagerly await the next chapter, but they really missed the mark with this one.
In answer to the original question: this kind of response has certainly happened before. Back when Twins came out, people absolutely hated the chapter because of how buggy it was, and they were borderline unplayable in the PTB.
Her comic book aesthetic is at least justified in lore. She became a killer because she... read too many edgy comic books.
aight, let's be real, this killer is so lame lmao
-
I usually play with either zero slowdown or off-meta slowdown and do fine. As long as you can clean up your chases quickly, you don't have to worry a whole lot about gens.
Survivors can't do gens if they are dropping like flies, get 'em caught in a recovery spiral.
-
@Heytherebigguy said:

I'm a blight main who plays without heavy slowdown, reached high mmr bracket(2-8k hours survivors who loop amazingly and are highly efficient) and sees how one chase can ruin the game and if I don't commit, there's no weak link to just 2 tap.
I mean, I don't understand your problem then. You're playing a strong killer that you are clearly good at, with builds that work well with your playstyle.
How is CoH an issue? If you hit a survivor then leave them because they try to bring you to an undesirable side of the map, they go and heal at the circle. This is 32 seconds of time they are spending healing, which translates into 32 seconds of slowdown you have earned for yourself by landing that hit (not including how long it takes for them to physically get to the circle).
Am I missing something, or is it almost 3am and I need to go to bed?
-
If it's not CoH, it's medkits. If it's not medkits, it's Bond so they can find someone to heal them, or We'll Make It to keep their teammates healthy. You can't avoid survivors playing smart and staying healthy, good survivors know not to stay injured and give the killer an easy down.
My advice is to pick killers that can end chase quickly, so if you run into healthy a survivor you can chew through their health states with ease. That, or bring chase perks to help tie up chases sooner if your killer is a little lacking in lethality.

By doing nothing, you only mean “Gen”.
Sometimes its hard to find Gen in indoor map, I mean, if you want to punish “normal” players because they cant find a Gen to do, okay..
Quite literally not what I said, nor what I was inferring.
Survivors can avoid getting crows by doing laps around edge map or cycling lockers in basement, which defeats the purpose of idle crows (to help find players that are stalling out the game).
If a player hasn't touched a gen, a totem, a chest, healed a survivor, unhooked a survivor, or been chased by the killer for something like over two minutes (roughly 15% of your average DbD match), that player is no longer participating in normal gameplay and could potentially be doing something like attempting to hold the game hostage. I've seen players that hide for almost an hour without getting crows before, and odds are so have you.
If you are looking for a gen but can't find one, it probably isn't going to take you something like two minutes. Probably closer to 60 to 90 seconds. Even then, you can do other things to progress the match like healing survivors you run across, ect.
We're talking about survivors that are actively and purposely doing nothing.
-
She needs changes... badly. I think BHVR is waiting for the Hate Train to lose a little steam before they talk to the community, so they don't get swarmed by, well, the kind of people this community is full of.

Last time we had a 6 month gap between chapters (Ver 1.9.4 - 2.0 I believe) it was a huge tank in playerbase and in overall online content. The game went down to 22,000 players average from like 33,000 and it was lowest it had been in quite a long time.
This playerbase needs constant new things to play with otherwise everyone gets bored and leaves its sad to say but its true
Knight is pretty good evidence of this. The killer was flop, and everyone was just so burnt out since there was nothing new to do that was fun or exciting. This chapter is gonna go exactly the same, and people will be gone from the game even longer or even forget about it.

You're not going to get attention just because you keep trying.
You can't provide a meaningful counter-argument to something anyone actually says to you, so you just dodge and ignore every single valid point instead of engaging and trying to have a real discussion. I showed that your point was just cherry-picking everything negative about Slinger while ignoring everything good about him, and that it's an extremely easy argument to make and also extremely easy to dismantle.
Every time I say "he's not that clunky" you say "that's just your opinion, he's still bad and the other killers are better." Every time I counter that with "he's not bad, he's good but requires skill" you say "no, I never said I do bad with him, he's just clunky".
If all you can do is ignore arguments you can't counter by making character attacks, or cherry-pick and make weak arguments and then counter again with character attacks, then you don't actually have an argument that is sound enough to actually survive in an exchange of ideas.
My take is "Slinger is fine, even quite strong, just more takes more practice than other ranged killers", and I can make supporting arguments for that all day.
What is your point, again? That Slinger is dogwater, but also not dogwater because you can win with him, also he's clunky, even though you're ignoring that most killers in DbD are clunky?
It's impossible to reason with someone that just wants to look at everything bad about a killer while completely ignoring everything that is good about that killer. If you just personally dislike playing Deathslinger, that's 100% valid. But don't come out here and say "this killer is bad because I personally don't like him".
-
@foxsansbox said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3348055#Comment_3348055
Yes. It is the same comment. That was the point.
And no, I don't think it's entirely subjective. You can look where the clunkiness is allocated to draw very obvious, objective conclusions about his gameplay loop:
Deathslinger has to wait to shoulder his weapon, he has to wait to unshoulder his weapon, has to wait in the form of decreased sensitivity to aim his weapon, he has to wait while he reloads, he has to wait while he gets into range because of his mismatched terror radius, and he has to do all of these things that make him slower while already being 4.4. All of Deathslinger's artificially increased waiting comes during the chase. It is awful design. Period.
I could preach it to death and people would still go, "Nah he's just fine. It's skill diff."
But I'm still going to preach it. Freddy, Billy, Slinger - none of them deserve the treatment they received. Anyone who thinks it's acceptable for so many killers to have such an awful pick rate are coping.
Huntress has to wait to raise her hatchet, has to wait to lower her hatchet if she can't get a shot, has to wait after she throws her hatchet, has to wait for her throwing speed to charge up, has wait while she finds a locker and then wait while she reloads, has to wait while she gets line of sight because of her overly large 40m lullaby, and she has to do all of these things while being 4.4. It is awful design. Period.
See how easy of a statement that is? You just describe a character's gameplay loop and paint it as being completely 100% negative while ignoring everything good about them.
It's impossible to have a sensible and mutually beneficial discussion if your stance is "everything I even mildly dislike is unplayable garbage".
-
yeah basically. The old version was what, 6% regression and 10 seconds incapacitated? It was pretty bad compared meta at the time, like Pop and Ruin, and also bad compared to off-meta like Surge. But with Call of Brine or Overcharge, OG Eruption would still have a niche as a supporting perk for killers that desperately want to get some extra regression.
As for game balancing, having a massive number of borderline unusable perks means that the few perks that ARE decent are going to be seen very often. That's really the true cause of DbD's meta of "the same four or five perks every game". It's not that you need the absolute best stuff to win, it's that most everything else just sucks so bad that there's no reason to run it.

Alright Mr. pro. Seeing as how I've never complained about my ability to kill with him, and I've only ever harped on how massively awful he feels to play, I'm not sure where you're leading this conversation, but you can do so without me.
Take Piruluk with you. His comprehension falls short as well.
He doesn't even feel that bad to play, especially compared to other DbD killers. You completely dodged that in my other reply, which was entirely about how Slinger is not as clunky as every says he is. Instead you latched onto "skill issue," which is still a true statement about Slinger's performance btw.
400ms wind-up with minimal movement speed slowdown is VERY smooth by DbD standards. Spamming ADS also feels pretty smooth, despite being slow.
Take pretty much any other killer in DbD with an M2 that has a significant wind-up and they will feel like you constantly lurching around and stopping and starting.
Wraith, Doctor, Huntress, Pig, Spirit, Plague, Demo, Pyramid Head, Twins, Nemesis, Artist, Wesker, and Knight. Honorable mention to set-up killers and teleporting killers, who are also clunky and awkward. The moment you try to start your M2 with most killers, you either basically stop moving or your camera stops turning (or both), then you often have to manually cancel or once again stop moving for almost a full second.
Whereas Slinger can enter and exit ADS relatively quickly without having to stop in place, and can also stay in ADS with full movement control and complete camera freedom.
My point is that if you are complaining that Slinger is clunky, then you are either so used to dealing with the slow, clunky awkwardness of the other killers that you don't notice that how awkward they are to play, or you have pretty much never played Slinger after the nerf. I usually assume the later.

You write all that to summarize with skill dif. Yikes.
I was going to address the inaccuracies, but based on them you're just enjoying low MMR.
My guy, I am regularly playing against some of the best players in NA. Survivors with 3 times or 5 times my total playtime, including mid to high profile streamers that play the game for a living. If I'm in low MMR, I would genuinely be surprised.
Slinger is still very good, and I even have done decent with him in the very small amount of comp that I have played.
It's not Deathslinger that is bad. It's most of the people that play him.
