Camping and Tunneling is actually skillful

Why do survivors insist on saying that camping and tunneling is "0 skill" "braindead" "bot"?

As far as I can see, it's infinitely times more skillful than holding M1 on a generator and talking to your Twitch chat in background while checking your monitor every 10-15 seconds for a skill check. You don't even need to watch out for killer most of the time as terror radius gives you an indication when you actually need to start paying attention. Hitting good skill checks can be mastered after 10 minutes of the gameplay time. That's all the attention span and skill it takes to do your objective while the reward is immense.

At least when you tunnel you need to end the chase fast. You take a big risk and if you fail, you get punished heavily by basically losing the game on the spot. A sole survivor literally gets a chance to win a game for their team on their own. A successful tunnel is much more skilful activity than holding a button on a generator.

When you camp, you need to constantly look for other survivors, don't hit the wrong person, time your M1 to grab, avoid body blocks, and make sure to watch all angles so you don't miss anyone coming for rescue. It's at least 5x more actions for a killer to do (successfully) in order to gain benefit from it.

So please, survivors, when you complain about no-skill gameplay, have a bit of self-reflection. Your objective (generators) is literally the lowest risk, lowest skill and highest reward in the game to exist on both sides.

Not an opinion really, more of a fact. If you have arguments to prove otherwise, please let me know.

  • I mean this is obvious bait, but facecamping does not take skill. Knowing when going back to the hook is the most efficient play, and avoiding body blockers to tunnel someone out, those are skills.

like hook someone, patrol 2 or 3 gens, and if they haven't been unhooked yet and no one was on the gens you patrolled? go camp, you deserve it

  • Standing against hooked survivor is very skilled gameplay indeed.

  • Yeah I agree op. People complain about killers being brainless or not taking skill or whatever but it isn't even hard to win as survivor. Just hard split and stay on gens, hold w and predrop. Ez game

  • It takes some skills, like observation, defending, when to hit/grab/chase off etc. Avoiding BT and bodyblockers takes some skill too, not loads but Its not 0 skill like playing as the doctor 🙃

  • For me it's more STBFL is enabling such tactics to an uncounterable degree when stacks are obtained and it's not hard to build up to, even if the obsession makes a save it can't be salvaged, it needs looked at after 6.1.0

I know right, it requires 0 skill. Pretty much anything in this game besides mastering huntress hatchets, mastering Trickster's knife throwing skill (because the knives have to be precise and you're pretty much trying to aim at a constantly moving target), and performing actually decent mind games, takes 0 skill.

  • It’s also skilful to eat hot soup without burning your mouth.

  • There's also the matter of knowing when to camp and tunnel.

Recognizing that multiple survivors are around, or having a hook in your three gen. Camping at the wrong time against the wrong team WILL lose you the game. Camping against survivors that rush hook or survivors that happily cluster around the hook so they can stand there and watch their teammate die while they do nothing is a good play. If you leave your queen in killing range of my pawn, why would I not take your queen?

Knowing who to tunnel and when to tunnel, as well. If someone is a little too eager to take chase after getting unhooked, they are probably running OtR + DS and you should drop chase. Tunneling very early is also a pretty bad idea, since you are only pressuring one survivor at a time and the other three are free to do gens until you have him on hook.

That being said, saying doing objectives as survivor doesn't take skill is a little misguided. Knowing when to commit to gen with the killer close, knowing which gens to do and which order to do them in, knowing when to get off your gen and go for unhook, ect. Survivors have a constant balancing act of being altruistic and doing gens. Too much altruism, no gens are done and everyone dies. Too much gens, everyone is injured and people are going to second stage for free or dying on hook. Survivor takes just as much game sense as killer.

The title can be considered bait, but I didn't want to have a super long title to tell my point.

Facecamping is overrated on anyone besides instal down killers. It's quite easy for survivors to play around it, especially in the end game. Takes a simple strategy really.

  • There’s nothing skillful about standing by a hook or deciding to target one survivor. Sure you can say tunneling requires skill because you need to chase, but chasing is in the game regardless of tunneling or not. Lmao this post makes no sense.

Actually first fair reply argument in this entire thread, and I agree with most of it.

I think in terms of generators taking skill, it mostly comes down to preventing 3 gen and knowing when to let go to go for a save. With that being said, an SWF eliminates the 2nd point completely and preventing 3 gen doesn't take much brainpower.

  • Why do we pretend like this game is skillful in general?

If you are focusing on one survivor, everyone will rush gen as they feel no pressure. Additionally, a tunnelled survivor has BT, potentially off the record and DS. Sometimes you have to end chases 2 times, potentially 3. You tunnelling one survivor is giving the other 3 survivors free reign to do whatever they want, so no - it's not the same chase.

Well if it provides that much of a disadvantage then why do you killers keep doing it???

  • It's true. It's just not as skillful as chasing. It's also strategy, but most people don't seem to like killers using strategy of any kind.

And how many killers get punished for it/get 1k at max? You're implying as if tunnelling is a free win for every killer when probably in a lot of cases it results in one survivor killed, and 3 others escaping.

I do think though a lot of killers do it cause they are salty/annoyed and they don't really care about winning the game. They just want to make the other person feel bad.

  • Tunneling may be skillful because you're actually catching them, but aside from like one or two scenarios camping is 110% a bot play by an unskilled and outclassed killer , there's no defending it in a way that actually makes you skilled "You have to look out for other survivors while camping" oh wow what skill lmao you say survivors are the same on gens? Well at least survivors have to hit skill checks the equivalent would be if you camped and had to hit skill checks or took an auto stun while standing there but nope you can stand in front of the hook with one hand on your mouse and one free for whatever and still get a down if they go for the unhook without looking around at all.

No a lot of killers do it because their excuse is “that’s the only thing we can do to win” but now you’re telling me tunneling is a detriment? Honestly idk who to listen to at this point.

  • I really don't see how standing in one place by a hooked survivor takes skill

Lol the world may never know! Bots come in all shapes and sizes these days, I'm not defending survivor bots either but for someone to believe they're actually skillful for standing there and not moving is hilarious, at least if gens are getting done someone is putting in work running the killer and it's not like the killer has to wait 3 minutes before they can move, someone is making skillful plays to keep the gens going without interruption

  • yawn

Because any "braindead" killer can figure out that tunneling and camping are the easiest and most effective strategies to win.

Barring the actual perk BT, OTR and Dead Hard, hard tunneling can often avoid extra health states. It takes less skill to tunnel than play more fairly and salty survivors love to use hyperbole and say "0 skill" or outright lie.

  • It can be skillful at times. Doesn't mean it can't be annoying. That's all I'm going to add to this.

Idk where you saw I said that considering I never claimed that doing gens took skill

  • CAMPING AND TUNNELING IS ACTUALLY SKILLFUL

    PossibleLazyEagle-size_restricted.gif

Standing at the hook is not skillful it's just being lazy looking for free handouts like a bum.

Tunneling one person out ignoring everything else is just playing dumb.

  • Ok so it's like you're having two diff arguments with all due respect. Your statement is "Camping and tunneling is actually skillful" while comparing it to sitting on gens?..No one has ever made that comparison or argument that doing gens is harder than camping and or tunneling. Arguments however have been made that chasing survivors, using mind games and chase perks are more skillful than sitting at a hook at five gens with a Bubba. But hey, your opinion

Plenty of survivors make that comparison, albeit not directly - that was the whole intention of the post. A Nancy who has had 10-20 second chases, and did nothing but gens whole game (and got rewarded for it) is telling me that I am a "no skill killer"

  • Ah yes, because standing in front of a hooked survivor is very skillful. Tunneling I can sort of understand because you have to commit to one survivor. But camping? No.

You can't compare both just purely based on things you have to take into account and watch out for when doing a generator vs when camping a survivor.

The only time this comparison is reasonable when comparing to a bubba face camping (1/28 of existing killers)

  • @Aurelle said:

Just cause a person stands in front of another person on a hook, doesn't mean he can just turn off his brain and wait until the person dies. In fact, it's one of the highest pressure situations for a killer not to mess up.

Figure of speech, regardless, you can count on things you have to do as killer face camping/tunnelling and as a survivor doing a generator. These are just pure numbers and I can't explain it easier to you.

  • Just because doing gens is low-skill doesn't mean camping and tunneling is high-skill.

I tell you what camping is easiest thing in this game you don't actually have to look around that much either. I have played basement bubba without even playing and getting kills if that is not easy I don't know what it is. I can cook or chat whatever while I camp in basement. Skill check needs you to focus and no-one is hitting them well with 10 mins of playing time and stealth killers grap you if you don't pay attention to game. Streamers are different than your average gamer they play what 12 hours a day and they have them as muscle memory.
