  • The game concept itself is great, and I do appreciate them creating it as well as acquiring and introducing new characters both original and licensed.

After that though, I've witnessed repeated failures to uphold reasonable professional developer standards in regards to ethics, attitudes, character balance, map balance, product quality, game design, information dissemination, transparency, public relations, and much much more.

I honestly do think that they put too much emphasis on monetary compensation lately (both IRL and in-game) and tend to veer away from professionalism using a guise of playfulness. Notice how errors and related blood point payouts have become the norm instead of an on occasional compensation apology.

But hey, if I ever get tired of all the tomfoolery, I'll just a take a break from them and play Civilization 5 again.

    ---

    But seriously, professionals have standards.

  • While I have no direct contact with the developers, I have played this game on and off for many years.

Due to my extended personal experiences with their processes, I have become attuned to their ways and created some educated estimations of their future developments that I believe will be useful. These estimations have concluded with the following responses to your two listed questions in the original post:

    "Soon™" and "maybe."

  • The same reason people hack.

Because they find it fun and know they'll get away with it.

I find most people online typically aren't good people.

  • Take no perks, go in the basement's far corner (next to a locker), face the corner (with your head slightly toward the middle of the wall), and put the volume on your headphones up high.

Your absence in the game will confuse them, your terror radius will lure them, and you facing away from the survivors will intrigue them. This is especially true if one of them has a flashlight, since they'll see if there's enough of angle to blind you for points by heading to the middle of the wall. At the very least, they'll try to poke your butt.

Once you hear their footsteps behind you, or they try for the blind, turn around and kill them.

Once hooked, go back to your corner and crank up the volume for more footsteps.

After you assert your dominance, spam M1 on their hanging soon-to-be corpses, to warn others what will happen if they poke your butt.

    Easy.

    ---

Edit: Not that I've done this, but if I did, this is what I would do.

Maybe Distressing, Monstrous, Overwhelming Presence, and Mad Grit if I really wanted to take perks though.

  • While I play multiple killers, Ghosty is my favorite.

I find that the hit and run strategy is harder to pull off nowadays, especially once healing boon totems are re-enabled.

So, nowadays, my play-style with Ghostface revolves around stalking and insta-downs.

    ---

Build: Corrupt Intervention, Thrilling Tremors, Play With Your Food, Rancor

Corrupt scatters survivors early and prevents rushing objectives, allowing me to usually set up a good ambush spot as they ran around.

Thrilling gives me info after each hook, and can delay gens slightly.

Play With Your Food lets me ignore one entire survivor (unless they mess up) and reduces the 1v4 burden on me a bit, while making one-shots on others easier.

Rancor allows me to mori the only survivor I never typically hook, so lessens the amount of hook objectives I need by 2 hooks. Also permanently removes one body blocker if they make it to end-game, making it easier on me to kill others.

    ---

    Play-style is simple:

Run around, stalk people, and one shot them. Never commit to a chase, and only hit people when they're off guard. Practice finding angles to stalk people and really learn to abuse your stalk range (40 meters) to 99% people before moving in.

If you're really fortunate, the obsession might think you have Save the Best for Last, and try to harass you. This is a regular source of free stacks, and you can hit them freely if they try body blocking you for a free injure.

If you find the obsession after hooking someone or your shroud is down, play with them a bit to remove pallets and get stacks. At that point there will be one person hooked, (at least) one going for the save, and the obsession pre-occupied, so no one is really doing generators. Once you're done playing with the obsession, you should have enough Play With Your Food stacks for another 2-3 quick downs.

    ---

This is just what I like to do though, since I hate being looped, and love stalking/playing around with others. If it's not for you, and you prefer being more aggressive or prefer hit and run that's fine, but I don't have too much advice for that since I don't play that way often.

  • Survivor - Dwight:

Bond, Open-Handed, Plunderer's Instinct, Balanced Landing (Plunder will be replaced with that healing boon later)

    ---

    Killer - Ghostface:

Corrupt Intervention, Thrilling Tremors, Play With Your Food, Rancor

    Killer - Legion:

Thrill of the Hunt, The Third Seal, Ruin, Thanatophobia (Replace Thana with Retribution on occasion)

    Killer - Doctor (Calm add-ons):

Monitor and Abuse, Devour Hope, Ruin, Huntress Lullaby (Replace Monitor with BBQ, Thrill of the Hunt, or anything else on occasion)

  • The bloodpoint offerings and in-game opportunities from this event are negligible, so in that regard I barely even recognize that an event is going on.

The pumpkins are cute, but I'm fairly certain literally any game acknowledging Halloween in any form would have some somewhere, so that's not impressive to me for a dedicated horror event.

The halloween rift with free cosmetics is the only thing interesting, but even then it's just a carbon copy of the tomes that have been available on a regular basis for years.

    ---

In short the event is cute, but it's not really impressive nor awe-inspiring.

  • Regardless of what any person or MMR system dictates, I consider it a personal win when I just have fun. And I consider it fun when I know I can control the pace of a game, or have at least impacted it in a meaningful way.

In that light, I'm never really concerned with survival, kills, hooks, or whatever else.

    ---

    Killer example:

When I play as Ghostface, kill someone before 2 gens are done with multiple hooks, and my efforts have made it so that I can obviously dictate how the game will go based on my whims, it's a win for me. Even if I decide to let the other 3 people go, and crouch around the map pretending I'm a scared little crab, I still consider it a win.

In contrast, if I'm playing as Clown, 5 gens pop, and I don't have a single hook, but they all run it down and die to me before they leave, I consider it a loss. Why? Because I didn't have much impact on the game, and I didn't have fun.

    ---

    Survivor example:

If I run around as Dwight, get a ton of points, but die saving someone in end-game, it's still a win for me because I had fun and know I contributed to the teams success in a meaningful way.

In contrast, if I hide in a locker, get few points, and escape at the end, it wouldn't matter to me that I lived or died, I'd still consider the game a loss because I wasn't impacting the game in a meaningful way.

  • Oh, you play League of Legends?

Then you'll be happy to hear the report system in this game is akin to reporting someone for being unskilled in LoL when that was an option.

  • Funny, I heard this same thing when infinites were a thing... and original DS... and 20 CD Sprint Burst with no exhaustion... and insta-blind flashlights... and old self-care... and....

Anyway, glad some things never change.

  • Stopped financially supporting them via buying DLC, packs, rift, etc.

I was going to still play on occasion, but I kind of don't want to anymore surprisingly, even with the new patch.

I might later, but for now I guess I can add that to the list.

  • Oh, I've got plenty of these memories from ages past. You've listed a lot of actual in-game mechanics from back then, so here's some memorable moments from me instead.

"Get good, idiot. Learn to drop the chase when a survivor heads to an infinite." - Countless survivors justifying infinites in 2016.

    Followed by...

    "Get good." - Mcote

"It takes SO much skill to do anything even resembling an infinite." - Mcote

I was so passionate about the game back then, and as a killer main, the comparison I noticed between these two sets of quotes really made me upset. I still remember trying to get involved in killer strikes in DBD's steam discussion forum way back when, which mods repeatedly deleted.

    ---

Also, never forget this famous video from back then:

    https://youtu.be/hsie4pHH99E?t=488

Just the tip of the iceberg killers had to endure back then too.

    ---

Literally so much has happened over the years that I've just accepted that the game will always be terribly survivor-biased, and refuse to treat it as a competitive or serious game. Just have fun, do whatever you want, nothing else matters. That's been the only truth about DBD for all these years.

Ask the hackers, I doubt anyone is proving them wrong on that.

    ---

    Anywho, I'm rambling. Good times!

  • They say a person's looks reflects their inner nature.

I wonder what these new portraits say about the company.

To be fair, the main purpose of the event is bloodpoints. So compensating the loss of BP with BP seems fair enough.

Oh yeah, no, I was being completely serious while taking a pot shot at their activities and failures. I plan to take shots at them whenever I see an opening for the foreseeable future.

But they're definitely going to give more BP for the patch issues, because it's hard to even want to play with so many present. At least, I'd surprised if they didn't. Personally, I think the disaster of recent days would even warrant iri shards, but I doubt they'd do that so soon after Mikaela's release.

  • It's okay, Behaviour came strangely prepared this time around. They've already begun bribing our forgiveness with the "Hallowhoops" bloodpoint code. We just didn't know what it was for yet.

Whatever happens, I'm sure they'll just toss more bloodpoints at the problem and hope it works out. After all, they don't seem to be interested in either responsible or ethical business practices.

  • I honestly don't know what happened, but I know what it's like to get bogged down with these kind of players sometimes. I used to accept invites and try to talk with them myself a couple years back. I learned that a lot of people are just really ignorant, and do my best to prevent talking to anyone in-game anymore. Even then, I can still get dragged into it on occasion.

    Sympathies.

Judging from his reaction though, I'm sure you did play well. Gj

  • I don't know what the problem is either.

Involvement in NFTs, internal confusion in the company around NFTs, game crashing bugs around boon perks, the implementation of a kill switch they refuse to use, and an EAC issue that's making the game literally unplayable. Sure, that last one is a Steam issue, but the timing is still hilarious enough that I wanted to include it.

Seems like they did a pretty good job overall today, honestly.

  • It actually took me a second to realize what you meant by shrine, then I actually read the post and realize.

    That's hilarious, thank you lmao

  • It's okay, they've been aware of the problem since launch thanks to these forums and have developed a kill switch to disable the perk and other problematic aspects of the game.

... Oh, why aren't they using it?

Well, it is the big patch debut... and people would be disappointed...

And they stall enough for their work hours to end...

Who knows? Maybe they'll start acting with integrity when they come into the office tomorrow.

    ---

Also a ban for that? Ow, wut the.

I'd contact support for that, because I otherwise don't know what to say if that's truly an unjustified ban based on their own ineptitude.

In what? 10 years? These NFTs now are NOT green! And they are just a stupid way to grab money. Why buy some digital (maybe even stolen) artwork for 100s or 1000s of dollars if you can just ask some people to render you models etc in 4k or if you can just search google for a 4k wallpaper.

I don't think this can be stressed enough, honestly.

Industrialization, carbon-fueled transportation, and other necessities that were undertaken have caused what is nearly irreversible future damage to our environment. Even to this day, we're still not green and paying environmental costs for these necessities.

Now there's an increasing bandwagon to add additional stress-factors to our world, and in this case, for what can be construed as petty and insignificant wants via NFTs? How stupid.

I don't give a crap how people spend their money, honestly, if they want to buy the rights to an image, let them.

But I really think it's short-sighted and childish for others, and the future, to pay additional prices for these transactions at this time.

  • I mean, I would enjoy playing killer today if it weren't for all the crashes that keep forcing me to revalidate my files.

    Getting tired of it, honestly.

If only there was some kind of device, a switch perhaps, that let some otherworldly entity temporarily disable the culprits behind the crashes. Oh my, I can dream anyway.

  • I've had even more crashes lately, when survivors heal with boon.

I'm legitimately curious how this got passed Q&A, and even more so why they aren't flipping the kill switch they bragged about implementing this patch. Congrats, you have a very valid use for it on your patch debut, during your work hours. Let's see it in action.

  • I actually really like the perk buffs for killer, though maybe that's because I often like run off-meta builds and these are the kinds of things I liked using.

Thrill + Retribution are amazing on full-hex builds, providing constant streams of time wasting, information, and sources of oblivious. Third seal has also been great for slugging builds. I've been using all three together on Legion since the release, and it's been really fun.

Mindbreaker is something I've always loved on Stealth killers, so while I haven't tried it yet, I'm hoping the blindness feels nice as well. As a Dwight player who runs Bond/Open-handed every game as a survivor, I just know this will be annoying for me anyway.

Blood favor is actually the one I've been enjoying the least surprisingly. I've only played back-to-back games of legion this patch so far, and every time I hit someone they just use their speed boost to run to a tile that isn't being blocked off. Despite thinking I'd love this perks buff originally, this might actually be the least impactful for me so far. But I've only played about 5 games so far this patch, so who knows.

  • I like this public statement from them, indirect apology accepted from me.

I might be seen as flippant, but it's not in anyone's good interest for them to belittle their partners or outright revoke their actions. Could you imagine how much harder it would make license agreements for them in the future? Not to mention other complications.

Whether they knew about the NFTs and were testing the water known as their ethical limits, or they supported it in ignorance and had no idea what their assets would be used for, the damage is done. This post is showing they have no interest in NFTs either way, likely in part from the backlash.

For me, complaining about things like NFTs and killer balance is to evoke a change instead of causing a riot.

If Behaviour will not pursue NFT activities in the future, nor support it further, I can't help but feel like they've learned a lesson and the complaints have done their job. But hey, if they ever do it again, I would consider it a breach of trust at that point and then be a bit more offended and distrustful.

    ---

Edit: I should note though, that I have no intention of financially supporting Behaviour's Pinhead content because of this. I'm also holding my wallet entirely until the distaste from this situation settles.

  • I'm just upset that management took a route that let their assets be used to support NFTs, which I do not support for environmental reasons.

You can say: "Aw, man, but they didn't know!"

And shucks, you might be right and this happened due to their own ignorance of what the license agreement they signed could entail. Still I tend to believe in a concept of corporate responsibility, and I also tend to extend that belief to acts borne of ignorance just as much as greed.

Though I do hope they didn't knowingly support an NFT just for a nab at some licensed content since they'd sink a bit further in my books then.

  • Corrupt scatters survivors, and makes it easier to run into them as well as impede their progress.

Lethal just heavily increases your odds of finding them early.

Usually I just run into people who are running around when I run corrupt, so Lethal doesn't interest me as much. I mean, I'm getting the same thing Lethal would give me from corrupt anyway.

  • Being taken off steam.

Or Mcote recommending me to play Civilization again.

    Damn, that game is good.

  • It's the witch, I tell you! The Witch!

I warned 'em what would happen if they dealt in the black arts.

BURN HER, I SAY! BURN HER!

Unfortunately, a survivor can also just spawn right in front of your lit Thrill and get rid of it forever. All your numbers mean very little when the value is not guaranteed.

Fortunately running hex perks are typically viewed as high-risk, high-reward.

Though I admit, that would actually be the true worst case scenario for Thrill alone in terms of what it can accomplish by itself. But hey, who's to say my Ruin or something more valuable wouldn't have spawned there instead? Maybe Thrill just saved something potentially even more valuable.

  • Funny, I was actually just thinking this perk is pretty amazing now. The time it wastes as a supportive perk is kind of impressive, especially on the right killer.

    For example:

It takes 14 seconds to cleanse any totem, or boon a dull totem.

In comparison, it takes 28 seconds for a full-stack Thrill to cleanse any totem, or boon a dull totem.

It can even take a whopping 47 seconds for a full-stack Thrill+Thanatophobia to cleanse any totem, or boon a dull totem.

    ---

So worst case case scenario, with a full hex build, and the survivor cleansing everything except Thrill, Thrill alone is probably going to add about 30 seconds of cleansing ([14/.5 + 14/.6 + 14/.7) - (14x3)]. That's basically half a generator by itself, and ignores the sometimes enormous task of finding these totems on occasion.

For reference, Sloppy Butcher adds 4 seconds per M1. That's like hitting 7 Sloppy Butcher M1s at the start of the game.

    ---

It gets funnier if you include Thanatophobia, because every extra totem cleanse penalty after Thrill makes them exponentially more powerful.

Say you have a single person injured, that previous 28 second cleanse time (14/0.5) from Thrill turns into a 31 second cleanse time (14/0.45). Then 35 seconds (14/0.4), 40 seconds (14/0.35), and finally 46.7 seconds (14/0.30) the more you have injured.

    ---

And it gets even funnier when you realize that they HAVE to choose between destroying a totem entirely vs booning it when you're running full hexes. This is funny because booning takes 24 seconds to complete by default.

This means Thrill makes booning a hex take 48 seconds (24/0.5) longer for the first totem and up to a maximum of 80 seconds (24/0.30) to boon a single hex totem if you have max Thrill and Thanatophobia active.

    ---

Honestly, I'm having a blast running Thrill + Third Seal + Blood Favour + any other totem perk on Legion.

Although I admit it's making all the boon players miserable lol

But yeah, I think Thrill is actually super good if you're running a 4 or even 3 hex set up.

The minimum amount of time wasted running Thrill in the worst case scenario is ~30 seconds, excluding travel time. The maximum amount of time wasted running Thrill gets pretty disgusting, especially if you have a way to reliably track survivors like Legion does.

  • I actually had quite the successful Hex killer game recently, with Legion no less. Well, before my game crashed and is forcing me to re-validate my files to play again.

Thrill of the Hunt, Blood Favour, The Third Seal, and Thanatophobia was surprisingly fun.

Each totem takes 14 seconds (14/1) to cleanse/bless by default.

Thrill of the Hunt (full stacks) makes each totem take 28 seconds (14/0.5) to cleanse/bless by default.

Thrill + Thana (full stacks) makes each totem take 46.7 seconds (14/0.3) to cleanse/bless by default.

It's such a good time waste they're forced to do, because otherwise I slug them all with blindness and they die slowly.

Despite playing Legion in fairly high MMR, I still had 4 gens up and about 9 hooks before I crashed. Granted, I was against a Mikaela team trying to spam boon totems.

    ---

Which reminds me, it gets funnier if they try to boon a hex totem instead of cleanse it.

Booning a hex takes 24 seconds (24/1) by default, increased to 48 seconds (24/0.5) for max thrill, which is increased further to 80 seconds (24/0.3) if you have both max thrill and thana active.

Probably explains their struggle as a Mikaela boon squad.

  • Since this thread's bigger, I'll say again that I am also crashing (PC).

First game I played, just now, was as Legion vs 3 Mikaela's spamming boon totems on map "The Game." Crashed just as I was about to kill the last people. What timing that was, so sad.

  • I'm on PC, and my game crashed in literally the first game I played.

    You're not alone, Xbox folks.

  • Oh, I just saw this giant thread.

I already said my piece on this in another thread, I'm just posting here to show my support for for this thread.

Whether done with short-term gains in mind, or through ignorance, their association with an NFT by allowing their work to be used to support of it is disappointing to me.

  • Absolutely, I do.

People were dedicating themselves to playing killer when the original DS was released, and even when that patch came out that allowed you to blind/stun at any time during the pick-up animation. It didn't matter how hard they were belittled, or how unfair the game was towards them.

If there's anything you can rely on killers to consistently do, it's to play through their worst frustrations.

Sure they complain too but hey, it's hard for me to blame them nowadays.

  • Weird, that text should have read "Unlocks super phenomenal cosmic power..."

Talk about a missed opportunity, there's very itty bitty living space for fun references nowadays.

  • This is a troll question, right?

The art and music team on DBD is top notch, I rarely ever (have I ever?) seen them do wrong. Amazing work, as always.

Some people could learn from them.

  • I mean, I don't really need bloodpoints anymore since my characters have everything I want and prestige rewards are an obvious relic of the past/joke. Pair this with the casual nature of the game, since livestreams and balance decisions prove to me repeatedly that DBD should not be taken as a serious competitive game and yeah.

All I get for surviving is 5k bloodpoints more and the ability to have harder games faster.

I'd much rather have fun trying to be a hero and dying trying to save someone in the end-game or just goofing around nowadays.

That said, I still try and be respectful and leave asap if the killer was obviously trying and there's no one left to save. I also don't like dying purposefully letting killers kill me when I think they're trying, because it always felt insulting/bad to me when I used to try-hard as killer, lost, and people let me kill them. That's a personal preference though.

  • I doubt Steam would remove DBD for this.

However, to answer your question, if DBD were ever removed from Steam I just wouldn't bother playing it again. It would not matter to me if they transitioned elsewhere and nothing else changed for me or my account, I just wouldn't want to play anymore.

For better or worse, I've become habituated to having all my games on Steam, and don't care about accessing them through any other platform. I'll give it to Steam in that they've really made me a loyal user, or a lazy one - one of those.

  • It's an ethical dilemma.

If Behaviour's c-suite went down the street and shot a baby in the head, you'd probably be upset or at least vocalize some disgust for their actions. Whether that be due to your personal feelings on the situation, or to fit in with others, that would probably be your reaction if you were to be vocal about it.

NFTs are a bit more complicated in that their impact isn't as direct as shooting a baby in the head, but rather of the indirect damage they do through their promotion and use currently. While I might get criticism for comparing NFTs to shooting a baby in the head, environmental damage is a real threat that will harm and potentially kill others (people, animals, and ecosystems alike) in the long-run, and NFTs do currently play a role in encouraging this type of damage indirectly.

And unfortunately, in the pursuit of a popular license, DBD subjected to, and become complicit, in having its content and works to the promotion of activities that encourage this environmental harm with current technologies. Sure, it's not as directly harmful as shooting a baby in the head, but it's still an ethically questionable decision made by the top level management of our beloved development team.

Not to mention, company's putting short-term profit and benefits over long-term needs is typically a sore spot for most communities in general nowadays. This action showed that Behaviour isn't really that different in that regard, and it's kind of disappointing to people on top of that, especially when they wanted to support them.

    ---

That said, I personally don't approve of their actions either. Whether their role in the NFT was intentional or done out of ignorance, I really am disappointed in the company's leadership for allowing an association like this to exist.

  • In terms of both physique and personality, I'd say I'm a mixture of Dwight and Felix.

In what proportion, I'll leave it to your imagination.

  • My type of style involves dress shirts and formal wear, so unless you want to look like Dwight I'll refrain from making any suggestions.

That said, I couldn't help but post here to say congratulations!

May you both Prove Thyselves worthy of matrimonial commitment, and have a Bond thicker than No Mither's blood coagulating effects. Life is always Better Together, and I've no doubt you'll each be the Leader in the other's time of hardship in the future.

    Congrats again!

    ---

    PS:

Dress as Dwights on your honeymoon - wildest night of your lives guaranteed.

  • I wish a thread like this would remain open for a chance at a healthy debate - I do feel like Tru3 is an unfortunate victim of both the company and community alike.

It doesn't matter what Tru3's beliefs are, he was repeatedly (and publicly) provoked into a debate he clearly stated multiple times that he did not want to be involved in. It doesn't matter that the inciter is polite in his conversation, his advances were still unwelcome and Tru3's paying the price for this even more

    ---

It's akin to having a misisonary come to your door to discuss their religion multiple times, and refusing to leave until you acknowledge and discuss their point of view. Even worse, they have members of their church behind them to watch the debate.

Meanwhile you're being held hostage in your bathrobe and still have to get ready for work.

I can't imagine how annoying that must feel, shame he gets punished on top of that by the company too.

  • I'd consider an action or words toxic if they:

    • Aim to degrade or cause negative emotions on other person
    • Aim to force your beliefs or desires on another person
    • Aim to cause conflict

    ---

    Examples for each would be:

    • Tea-bagging, insulting, wishing harm on others
    • Trying to shame or otherwise enforce your style of play/ideas on others
    • Anything else that may be provocative or be done under the intent to cause needless confrontation

Another example of the second point would be the public inciting of unwanted debates of beliefs to other community members. Fortunately, I can't think of anyone inconsiderate enough to do this on DBD; nor any other external parties who would happily jump ship on the victims of such an action.

  • One man's trash is another man's pot-pourri.

  • If anything could be accused of destroying, or otherwise creating a rift, within the community, it's the original version of Decisive Strike.

I don't think there ever existed anything more unbalanced in this game, aside from infinite loops in the days of yore.

I still remember joining a killer strike group on steam Lol good times

    ---

    Edit:

But yeah, spirit is pretty ridiculous and needs to be looked at.

  • Don't listen to the fuzz, boys.

    It's a full-on conspiracy, hoo-ha!

  • I never understood conspiracy theories very much.

You're either horribly wrong, and look paranoid/silly in the process; or you're right, never know it, and can't do anything about it. There's no real win to it.

Then again, I can see it being fun letting one's imagination run wild for personal entertainment.

  • I bet every Trapper player will get immediately banned for hacking.

Hard to blame them though, they do use a machete/cleaver.
