We all know the Killer has won - we do, but I am fed up of having to bleed out on the floor while Killer goes to search for who ever is left in the game and I can't do nothing about it, even Unbreakable is no counter to this. I don't wish to DC due to loosing what points I have esp if I played party streamers etc Why should I have to wait around, bleeding and unable to do anything while Killer seeks out others and even if I manage to get up, downed again. I am not saying all Killers do this but I am getting fed up, waiting until the Killer decides then to down us all, and hook us all when all I wish to do is move on. I get it you won.
Sorry, I'm new here - what do you mean that "Even Unbreakable is no counter to this". Surely Unbreakable would allow you to get up from being slugged and save friends/open a gate/use the hatch/whatever?

That takes 16/24 seconds to make and only affects 24m. It can also be destroyed.
All the time on boons is time off gens remember?
And if they take both boon totem perks then every survivor gets infinite Self-care + Botany + Distortion + Lucky Break with zero prerequisites and for 3 of the survivors zero investment in time or perk slots. So lets add effectively 14 perks to the survivor's team (3x4 + 2 for the one taking the boon totems) and that's balanced? Only one survivor needs to be off gens for 16/24 seconds to set up this safe zone but all the others can get the benefits for no cost whatsoever.
Balanced.

it's not an infinite terror radius but it's close to one
the build is distressing, agitation, monitor and abuse, and what ever terror radius perk you want. also you must run calm carters notes and calm class 2. the gae is the best map for it so bring the game offering
the best moment to use static blast is in chase while near the middle
if your near the middle on the game you are garinted to hit everyone unless they are in lockers of course
it's very fun and gets challenges in his tomb done fast
also if you see a lot of items bring overwhelming presence
Thanks! Much appreciated.

That's fine. Have you played survivor against a killer with Devour Hope on an indoor map? It's ridiculous.
Well that's very interesting whataboutism, but it has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Are you still maintaining that boon totems cover a very tiny area or have you conceded that this is not the case?

Unless you have bad earbuds, you can hear them from 16 meters away. Self-care for a very tiny area. Survivor has to waste a lot of time finding and blessing it for a small area, for the team.
A very tiny area? Nearly a quarter of the map on some maps, not to mention covering multiple stories in places like Midwich & House of Pain. Wow, that's borderline delusional!

Every boon is 17,5% of a generator not being done. At the bare minimun.
That's the cost of the relighting. People need to stop pretending it is free.
If a boon gets snuffed and reblessed 5+ times and the survivors were still able to escaped even with all that extra time spend then you most likely would have lost if survivors used other meta perks too. Just faster.
But that cost is only paid by one survivor and the other three get, for zero investment in time or perk slots, at least 2 free infinite perks. If the Boon survivor has both perks then the other three get a free infinite Distortion, Lucky Break & boosted self-care - so up to 9 more perks for the Survivor's side for the time it takes for 17.5% of a gen? That's a massive bargain!

I don't know what the final result will be but I do know their regular schedule is they release a new character, maybe do a hot fix for them on the next patch to resolve bugs or quick fixes, and then about three months after initial release they put out a balance pass. There's zero reason to think they're not doing that same schedule with Mikaela and her perks.
3 months of broken Boon totems and you'll find a lot less killers around I'd imagine. We'll see!
-
No, especially as it's now eating the Killer's power as well.

@dugman said:
I don’t think that’ll be necessary, I’m positive the devs are closely monitoring game results in games with Boons and if they notice discrepancies in escape rates, etc, they’ll tone down their effects (make the Circle of Healing take longer to heal and maybe reduce the radius of effect of Shadow Step or maybe put a cooldown on its effect so it hides auras but only intermittently)
Thanks mate, that was the best laugh I've had all week!
Like the devs actually pay attention to the massive stuff-ups they provide us with every patch or if they'd do anything to make things better for killers?

Aaaaand... they nerfed Thrill of the Hunt, removing that feature, but still didn't buff Undying back. The Thrill nerf should be reverted, honestly, It's ridiculous to release a really strong new mechanic and nerfing to oblivion one of the few perks with potential to counter it.
Well BHVR couldn't have anything that might adversely affect their shiny new Boon Totems...

@Mazoobi said:
I like the idea of boons as it now makes totems an interesting mechanic that both roles can utilize, but I don't necessarily think they're that OP.
I hear people mentioning how up to 4 players can run the same boon, but wouldn't this also give survivors the "second objective" that killers have always been proposing? Yes, killers can go out of their way to snuff them out, but totems are typically located in obvious spots and it only takes a second or so to do so. The counterargument to this is specific maps/buildings, but hey, that's the dev's issue. I also don't think killers HAVE TO snuff them out unless they have the extra time to do so. I've played killer and still downed survivors when they were affected by the Shadow Step boon and vice versa when playing survivor. (since CoH is currently disabled)
Do I think boons are perfect the way they are? NO.
I think there's still some room for improvement, but I think people are exaggerating a bit when they imagine the idea of 4 people running boons. On paper, it sounds so good, but it's not always going to perform smoothly when executed. It takes time for the survivor to locate an optimal totem spot and then take 14-24 seconds to bless it which is time that they're not on generators which I'll take any day. Boon perks will also take up a perk slot so that means less chance of seeing the meta-driven perks that I don't even have to mention bc we all know what they are. Tying back to what I just said, boon perks should shift the meta which I think is a good thing. Do you want to see the same 4 perks at high-rank games?
I'm still cool if the devs decide to toy with the boons a bit and maybe lessen the leniency with them, but I wouldn't agree on making them a one-use perk. A lot of totems are easy to spot and as mentioned earlier, survivors blessing a totem are survivors who aren't on generators which equals less progression on their side. Combine that with injured survivors who may want to heal or need to unhook a fellow ally, that's an in-game slowdown for the killer.
With the two boons, we have now, I think a fair adjustment that can be made is to reduce the numerical values of Boon: Circle of Healing. 90/95/100% healing boost feels generous considering it offers the ability to heal yourself without outside assistance so kicking it down to 40/45/50% (or lower) seems more reasonable. The devs could also toy with the time it takes to bless totems and I'd be cool with that too.
This is my personal opinion on boons and it may seem bias since my role ratio (S/K) is 55/45, but I just wanted to voice what I felt about boons. I'm all for changes, but I just hope this won't be another Mettle of Man situation.
Edit: Typo
If only one survivor runs both Boon Perks then they effectively give the other three survivors an infinite supply of three free perks without cooldown or prerequisites (Distortion, Lucky Break & improved Self-Care) for zero investment in time or perk slots.
That's a far more likely and far more disruptive scenario than all players taking all Boon Perks, especially in a SWF. One player is designated as the "Safe Zone Creator"

Limited range (nerfed even, but I honestly wouldn't even mind if CoH was nerfed in range further given its strength), easily snuffed, takes time to bless...then MORE time if you have to do so again and again.., have to leave whatever you are doing once wounded to go to where it's placed to get its benefits...wasting even MORE time. The perks ARE strong, but they are limited in range and can take massive chunks of time to set up multiple times or to even use that could be spent on gens. Killers will adapt/learn to counter them best and everything will be just fine as usual.
They only take time for the survivor with the boon perks - for the other three they get an infinite three free perks (Distortion, Lucky Break and improved Self Care) for zero investment in time or perk slots.
Completely OP.

@gatsby said:
Survivors have A Tier and S Tier perks. Except most of them are from before 2018.
Pretty much nothing in the past 3 years has been remotely meta. Every new Survivor has had initial fanfare and then basically just become another cosmetic option with their perks leaving builds once the novelty wears off.
Boons finally look like Survivors might change their 2017 builds that haven’t been touched (or have been buffed).
Why is that bad?
Because if you take both of them you effectively give the other three survivors a free Distortion, Lucky Break and improved Self-Care with infinite renewals for zero cost in time or perk slots for those other three survivors.
Adding up to 9 free perks for no cost to the survivor's team is unbalanced.
-
For those saying that boon totems aren't that powerful, if a survivor has both perks then after blessing the totem they are effectively gifting all three other survivors with Distortion, Lucky Break and Self-care with infinite repeats and, for those other three survivors, zero cost in either time spent or perk slots taken.
How is adding effectively 9 extra perks to the team not massively OP? It's said that the boon totems don't take long to snuff but consider the poor slow killers, and in particular the territorial ones like Hag and Trapper. Having to trudge all the way across the map and leaving their trapped areas just to prevent insta-reset is a huge loss of time and momentum/pressure.

Circle of Healing is no where near ridiculous. In fact, it's weaker than other healing perks for time efficiency.
Shadow Step was just needed, plain and simple. There's a massive amount of Killer aura reading perks and no counter for them on the survivor side except for Distortion.
Sluzzy, is that you?
Seriously though, if a survivor takes both Boon Totems perks then their Boon area effectively gives the other three survivors unlimited Distortion, Lucky Break and a never-ending medkit for zero investment in time or perk slots. Having effectively 6 perks for up to 3 survivors for nothing plus a free item (effectively) isn't OP? It means that there's no value to switching away from an injured survivor. They are both completely broken.
-
C'mon, Sluzzy is always wrong in that aspect because they refuse to accept that there are two sides to the story and survivors have not faced a continuous downward spiral into uselessness as they continually claim.
Given the amount of hours they have as Killer I'm always surprised at their attitude.
-
If it was usable once the event is done I wouldn't mind so much. I just hate having crap in my bloodweb that you sometimes can't avoid but have zero use for and it winds up just wasting space.
-
Hopefully not until they make it more reasonable, but I'm not holding my breath this IS BHVR after all.

@MrSlippery said:
I've seen a lot of concerns, mainly from killers about Boon Totems, some survivors have also expressed these concerns.
When it comes to Boon Totems, Shadowstep, yeah, it's strong, but I don't really consider OP.
Now the second Boon Totem, Circle Of Healing, has plenty of potential to be OP, especially during late game, when 1 or 2 gens are left. The OP potential from CoH, is how it's played. Putting the Boon far away from the gens, would make it essentially impossible for the killer to win the match, especially in 3 gen situations. The killer would be forced to drop every chase, in order to continue protecting the gens. Giving the survivor a chance to go heal, and then come back to work on gens. At that point, the game is being held hostage, until the killer gives up.
I've seen suggestions, like killers being able destroy totems, or the Boons have a limited number of uses, even some have claimed a 1 time use. I don't really agree that's the best fix for them, as they have a limited range, compared to Hex Totems.
The suggestion, I came up with, wouldn't take away the strength of Boon Totems, but give them a drawback to using them. As I hate that anytime something is strong, potentially OP, everybody wants it nerfed into the ground and become another perk, nobody would run. So my fix would be is they should not disable Hex Totems, if the totem gets blessed with the Boon perk. It doesn't take away from the strength of the Boon perks. It'll make running Hex perks still appealing. And survivors will have to be more smart about using their perks. They can choose to cleanse the Hex and lose the totem, or bless the totem, but deal with the Hex effect that's also applied to that totem.
I like that the devs have added a new mechanic into the game, but a change does need to be made.
What are your thoughts?
Just curious - you say that you don't consider ShadowStep OP. It's effectively giving the other three survivors infinite Lucky Break and Distortion for zero investment in either time or perk slots. So it's not OP to essentially make three out of four survivors have 6 perks? If the Boon Totem character also has Circle of Healing that's 2 free perks plus an infinite SelfCare/medkit and again the other three survivors have to invest zero time or effort, just enter the blue glowing zone.
That's one of my major issues with Boon Totems, they massively reward the other survivors for no cost whatsoever.

That's what I posted above, like i said 😅.
1. Thrill: for the time increase
2. Undying for the aura reading (as this is the only remaining form of direct totem protection with thrills noice notification gone)
3. Haunted grounds: to hex 2 totems at once
4. Some other hex perk but most probably ruin or noed
But like i already said, this build would only help in wasting time IN CASE one or multiple survivor have boon perks. Outside of that only the 4th perk or hg might be of any use.
Edit:
Nevermind my point about undying. I forgot that they changed the aura reading to be exclusive for dull totems. 😓
It's such a crock how they deliberately nerfed TOTH & Undying to boost the power of Boon Totems. As if giving three survivors 2 free perks (infinite Distortion and Lucky Break) plus a free infinite medkit for zero effort or investment isn't insanely unbalanced already...

Tunneling is good for players whom primarily focus on kills as a win.
Getting 3 v 1 asap, swings the odd significantly in their favor.
Given that BHVR have confirmed that for a killer, MMR is solely determined by the number of kills they get in a match it's pretty much the definition of a win.
-
Major nerf. Clearly they didn't want any perks killer-side that could adversely affect Boon Totems.
-
@Sluzzy said:
Not when it takes 28 seconds to bless it. It only takes killer 1 second to snuff it. And he can hear it from far away. They don't give enough benefit to waste so much time constantly getting your perk back when killer can instantly snuff it.
Not enough benefit?
If you take both Boon Totem perks for a 14-second investment you give all the other survivors Distortion, Lucky Break and an infinite med-kit. How can you call giving the other survivors an effective 6 perks + a free item in addition to any item they may have taken that can be renewed infinitely "not enough benefit"?
Oh wait, it's Sluzzy.

A 4 man faster self-care for just 1 perk slot is not too good apparently
If they take both Boon Totem perks it's also a free Distortion and Lucky Break plus that self-care - and infinitely renewable with zero cost to the other three survivors.
-
Boon perks (especially if you take both) are effectively giving Distortion and Lucky Break and a medkit to every survivor in the totem's range. If the other three survivors pass through that area they effectively have 6 perks (their 4 plus Distortion plus Lucky Break) and a free medkit in addition to their chosen item for ZERO investment on their behalf.
How unbalanced is that? It sets up a zone where the killer is extremely disadvantaged and makes things like end-game reset trivial when all can heal at massive rate of speed and you're invisible to perks like Nurses.
In particular it's rough for low-mobility killers and especially territorial ones like Nurse & Trapper - pity the poor Trapper who has to trudge all across the map away from his trapped area if he wants to get rid of that power zone.
The fact that they can be renewed an infinite number of times is just insane. Yes, it has a cost to that one survivor of 14 seconds time but the other three have zero cost to gain a massive advantage.
Balanced? Hardly.

It definitely should, and blessing a totem should deactivate DS.

As DbD has always been a great balanced game i would say :
- Mechanic : gens that are outside of the boon totems range are insta done once a survivor touch them
- Fountain of Youth : inside the boon's range, have a passive healing @ 500% of healing speed
- Man of steel : boon's totem range increased by 200%, add 15 heal states to every survivors in the range
- Sneaky snake : inside the boon totems range, you are totally invisible, gen speed increased by 100%
- Tomb raider : you like old tombs, all hex totems outside of the boon's range are immediately cleansed, dull totems are immediately changed into a boon totem
- Doors maniac : your strong will to open doors grant you the ability to open doors even if no gen has been done
I know it's kind of out of the subject but that would me my personal best boon totems that will surely be released pretty soon :p

No that's just what some people that want to ruin the Killer experience to have you believe. BBQ is a required perk for information so you're not wasting to much time between chases. Find, and hook survivor - then you can go find and hook another survivor across the map. The BP was always just a bonus.
It was dumb when they nerfed the perk letting survivors hide behind generators.
It's dumb that they added a boon totem that is an AOE Distortion. The reason Distortion only has 3 tokens is because of how ridiculously op it would be if it was constant.
The boon totems are absolute garbage, and the person who came up with them should be fired. That's all my saying.
Not only that, but effectively taking the Boon Totems means that the other three survivors get a free permanent Lucky Break, Distortion + a never-ending medkit. That's one hell of a boost to them for zero cost and zero time investment.
-

Self-Care is unlimited use, all the exhaustion perks are unlimited use, most survivor perks are unlimited use, why would boon totems be any different. Especially when you consider that a killer can snuff out a boon totem before you can even use it.
Since healing takes 16 seconds with Circle of Healing, plus 14 seconds to setup the totem. You are talking about a 30 second heal compared to a 32 second heal from Self-Care. Not to mention trying to find a totem to bless and going to the area of the totems effect.
Do you see why Circle of Healing is not really that big of a deal.
But once it's set up it's free healing and a safe zone for the other three players at zero cost to them. Effectively if you have both Boon Totems it's giving 2 perks (Lucky Break & Distortion) + a medkit to all 4 players and can be repeated infinitely. So the other three survivors have effectively 6 perks and a medkit in addition to whatever item they've brought in - hardly balanced!
-
Well, escaping is the sole criteria BHVR are using for survivor's MMR ratings so apparently the devs think that's the only thing that counts, you can't blame people for following that lead.
Personally I think their rationale for MMR is utterly nuts but I'm just a newbie.
-
@Crypticghoul said:
Every heal you get out of a medkit saves your team 16 seconds plus whatever time would have been spent finding each other which doesn't sound that crazy until you factor in multiple medkits or addons. They're crazy because there's no healing speed penalty to healing yourself and you can get 2-3 heals easily with addons, so the survivors stay healthy without nearly as much time bought for the killer as normal.
To answer the question, they've always been very strong but I think people are just now realizing it. Probably thanks to MMR making it so there are less weak links on a team that you can go after to build pressure.
And of course the new Boon Totems bring ultra-fast healing to all players, effectively giving one or two free perks to the other three players. If you've taken both Boon Totems then Nurses' won't alert that you're healing either.

That's a very "perfect world" point of view. Survivors break LOS (not to mention indoor maps exist). Do you play Nurse or Spirit? Scratch marks are one part of tracking, and an inconsistent one at that. And footstep audio is similarly inconsistent.
And of course, Boon Totems mean that now scratch marks and auras are going to vanish for large sections of the map.

Kill rates for most killers are well above the 50% threshold, so clearly the game isn't super survivor sided in all games. Learn to run tiles correctly and you can get all non-long walls out of the way in 20 seconds or less. DH for distance is annoying, but it's an exhaustion perk, it's supposed to be strong, just like sprint burst.
In short, git gud.

- Reduced their radius to 24M
- Takes 24 seconds to bless now
- They no longer stack
I think that's all the changes
So not substantially nerfed and still a nightmare for territorial/slow killers and still infinite. Pretty much what I expected.

The thing is that boons could become balanced if the effect was balanced enough. The lucky break one is a pretty good example of that.

The Lucky Break one is balanced? Considering that a SWF can set up 4x28m radius areas with no scratchmarks, add in the ubiquitous Iron Will and how's a killer to manage? I freely admit that I'm a newbie (~120 hours) but really?

I pity the slower killers if they have to trudge across the entire map to cleanse Boon Totems, in particular the territorial killers like Hag and Trapper.

I dont think theres anything to suggest a boon totem will be re-blessable by the same survivor.
If its like a hex the survivor will get a fairly decent perk but the killer will have an option to remove a perk the survivor has from the game permanently. It wouldnt make sense for the perk to be reusable as hex perks cant be relit either.
The risk reward for killer should be that they can make a survivor run with 1 perk down, on top of that the likely 4/5 perk meta should change if the boons are decent but at least now the killers may be able to remove a meta perk from the game. I actually see potential for this to break the meta builds and potentially give the option for killers to make survivors play with only 3 perks if they destroy the boons which could be big.
Maybe the boons will be area based effects too which force players to be in certain places to receive their benefit etc. Which could also slow down the game etc.
Lets just wait and see how it goes!
They have stated that boon totems can be re-ignited by the same survivor - I'll try and find it and link!
-
I fear that while it might be quick to cleanse a Boon Totem, pity the poor Trapper or Hag who have to leave their trapped area to limp across the map in order to cleanse it - only to have it re-ignited as many times as the survivors want.
In particular for those killers with slow movement speed, there is the potential to ruin games. I'd love more details!

But then it would be gone, forever. Boon Totems are more of an objective that would give killers a reason to not camp and tunnel a survivor.
Personally, I feel like a lot of Boon Totems will be created around the most boring mechanics to face, just as a lot of hexes originally were created against the most boring mechanics to face(genrushes(punishing survivors), object of obsession(punishing survivors), camping(rewarding the killer). The same could be said for boon totems. There arent many vanilla counters against a bubba facecamping without constantly hooktrading, so it could be that one of the Boon totems makes it impossible for the killer to use their power inside a 16 meter radius of a hook. Which isnt game breaking as they could start it outside of that radius, but if the killer wants to use it within 16 meters, they would need to go out of their way to camp like that.
Actually, they've confirmed that Boon Totems can be re-ignited again and again without limit. Which is - concerning.
-
I feel for the poor Trapper & Hag. After spending half the match building up a trapped areas if they have to limp all the way across the map to snuff out Boon Totems that's their game done.
I can just hear the bully squads salivating already.
I also feel that if Boon Totems can be re-ignited then Hex Totems deserve the same.

Trapper was never meant to traverse the whole map and chase survivors. He is a territorial killer, like hag.
Which is why I fear for them both when Boon Totems come in. If they have to traverse the map and leave their trapped territory (especially Trapper) to cleanse a boon totem that's pretty much game over for them.
