I hate the argument that "Survivors should be punished for not doing all the totems." Yeah, right. I'm going to roam the map and cleanse every totem to avoid a perk that the killer may or may not have, or better yet, do one or two totems and hope my team has cleansed the other three.

Killers, have you even tried to find all 5 totems on a map like Hawkins? And don't say some awful band-aid solutions like bring a map every single game, run small game, or bring map offerings to easier maps to find the totems. With a non-AFK killer who has map pressure, finding all the totems is an insurmountable effort with gens needing to be done and teammates needing to be saved.

Twice today alone, I've died on first hook (once on FIRST HIT) to NOED. I like the idea of tweaking NOED to being a timer, not affecting those who have not been hooked, making NOED token-based, or completely reworking it to not have an exposed effect.

Which is it, was the killer providing map pressure or did you make it all the way to the end game without being hooked? Because trying to claim both just doesn't jive.

Do know facecampers always use noed, don’t you? You want more campers in the game? Because if killers have noed at base kit you wont have time to do gens and find and cleanse totems against trash camper

The killer can only camp 1 hook at a time. If they are face camping one of you, the other 3 have all the time in the world to find items.

Do you want survivors to stop using d-strike or not???

I hate that argument lmao. So many will absolutely ######### on survivors for bringing that perk but every single time this topic comes up you get all the killers screeching “why should they get the benefit if they don’t bring it !!!!!!!!!” Make up ur minds lmao

No, bring it every game. Especially after the rework it's getting to make it align better with its purpose.

  • Bring back OG NOED!!!

  • @dezzmont said:

NOED is neither strong, nor unfair.

NOED actually adds a LOT to the game. See, DBD, and most games, are games about tension. If one side gets out to a huge lead, or somehow has victory basically already secure, it gets BORING.

Take Mario Kart, a classic example of a 'unfun' mechanic actually making the game way better. The blue shell fixes a problem with the game: When your way out ahead of everyone nothing is happening and the game is boring. The blue shell punishes going out way ahead and makes it unlikely that you get a dramatic breakaway. Despite getting hit by the blue shell sucking and feeling REALLY bad, what it gives to the overall experience is good.

NOED is a problem, not in that its unfair, or too good, or toxic, but in that it doesn't actually accomplish ENOUGH. NOED is meant to make it so survivors can't act with total impunity when the exit gates are powered, make the end game a raising of the stakes where every individual survivor could escape but now late rescues are extremely dangerous. It utterly fails at this outside 'final boss' builds (Ex: Remember me, blood warden, NOED). But it, at the very least, makes it so the endgame isn't a boring bully fest where the survivors just walk over the killer.

Some of NOED, and I say this without a trace of irony, should be base kit. You should, once the gates are powered, REALLY just want to leave, really agonize over every choice to stay. You should be dramatically encouraged to end the game, rather than drag it out. NOED does a bad job at this because you still basically are forced to camp the hook of whoever you downed so it just kinda gets one more kill. End game hooks probably are what actually should be re-evaluated so that more legitimate interaction can happen.

But all these complaints about NOED really strike me as not survivors caring that its 'unfair' so much as survivors whining they can't get basically a guaranteed endgame rescue by bodyblocking the hook and that going down when the killer has literally nothing to lose is REALLY BAD. The killer... kinda desperately needs MORE end game power, not less, because the endgame... kinda sucks and is entirely one sided right now.

This is the best explanation of NOED I have seen.

Yeah I can see that. At least giving the warning would make it more fun to go against and endgame could potentionally turn entertaining.

As a solo player it kind of is. I can't rely on random players to do them. So potentially I have to ignore my main objective and search around the map for minutes while not participating with gens/saves. You guys have to be realistic here... How many games have you had where all 5 totems were found and cleansed?

But you don't need to cleanse them all, just remember where you see them while going from point a to b. Then cleanse the one that lights up.

Personally I cleanse as I see them, but then playing solo I run inner strength a lot, and like having a heal ready when I need it.

  • I'm a console player, so I don't have a horse in this race, but I've seen 2 or 3 comments so far that say something like "it's really easy to do, also I've never been able to do it" and that just makes me giggle.

No, it's actually incredibly dependant on the teammates you get, which is actually imo the main strength of SWF (not the voice comms but the fact that you know for a fact your teammates will play efficiently and well). Like I said in the comment above when the killer's rank 4, I'm rank 1, and I get matched with yellow ranks it kinda takes the fun away,

Yes, we are all experiencing the same matchmaking issues.

    Well lucky you.

Solo is the reason I quit playing survivor for half a year because the experience was so ######### miserable.

I don't think that's dependant on the perks. I'm sorry you aren't enjoying yourself playing, I hope your other leisure time activities actually make you happy

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1983775#Comment_1983775

Yeah let me stick that into the rest of my build of perks "needed" in solo to have a good experience. There's plenty of room alongside Bond, Kindred, Iron Will, Spine Chill, an exhaustion perk, Off The Record, Borrowed Time, and Windows Of Opportunity.

95% of my survivor time is solo and I only consistently run 1 of those. Kindred. I have a great experience.

  • I won't tell you to get good.

I thought they are at point where some of the franchises are reaching themselves to BHVR for a possible colaboration right? I thought they were going to do 50/50 with licensed and original ones this year as they stated sometime last year. I can't lie im a little disappointed by this, and i know anniversary will bring some big licence for sure but like... i don't know, just wanted to rant i guess.

If they were planning on 50/50 I guess they could just do 3 licensed chapters in a row. As far as whether I mind? Nope. As long as the killer and survivor have new stuff that is fun to play, I don't care if they got the inspiration from an established thing or just a nightmare is their head.

  • Also, I find it hilarious that all of these people who keep claiming they don't care what sexuality a character is make posts like the OP complaining about something that has in no way been confirmed. That's how little they care, that they want to jump on that complaint train before it's even scheduled to leave the station.

Although I think its great that the devs are incorporating a chapter with some LGBTQIA+ lore, I can't help but think that they were pressured by some of the community, and I feel like this should be said: It is not their job to be diverse in a survival horror game. The game is about killing and surviving, not about social inclusiveness. I find it so hard to believe that people in this community really think that its the devs job to be inclusive, when it really isn't. Again, I am not trying to come off as non-progressive, I just want people to understand that its not cool to pressure the team to do something that you want, especially when its not in any way shape or form related to the gameplay and health of the game.

If the devs responded to twitter, they would have already reverted the ui. Stop being so melodramatic.

Well, it's just that nobody wants to play against iridescent head huntress, so at that point it's really not even worth thinking about your team.

I guess I get that, I've definitely had survivor matches I knew from early on would suck, but I don't DC, because then it just becomes a sucky situation I didn't even get any points for. Rather just suicide on hook if I'm going to quit.

  • @ShamelessPigMain said:

It's not toxic, it's just ridiculously powerful. As such, I can't blame survivors for DC-ing whenever I bring it. Of course, when I do bring it, I usually bring it with the intent of being toxic, but that's just a correlation.

I don't blame them, but I do wonder why they don't realize the only ones they screw over with a dc is their own team. I mean, the killer is still good, counts almost as much as a sacrifice for them, meanwhile the survivors are down a person with nothing to show for it, and the one that disconnected doesn't even get the pity bp they would had they died on first hook.

  • They don't appear any more toxic or broken than any other add-on of a similar rarity. Doc gets to apply all his side effects or make survivors shock each other. Myers gets the ability to mori anyone he can stalk long enough and catch, trapper gets insta-down traps. Etc. That's why you get 1 per bloodweb if you are lucky, and they cost 7k points.

There are lots of killers who swap to super sweaty builds if they see a lobby full of medkits, toolboxes or flashlights. Keys aren't the only problem.

Lobby view just encourages toxic sweaty play. You're even a living example of it, bringing Iri Heads when you see a key or bringing Franklins etc. As bm33 said it's better if we just skip the lobby altogether and just jump into the match directly.

Killers may have needed to know the loadout 5 years ago when DBD was definitely more survivor-sided, but it's largely unnecessary today.

So, to be clear, do you consider groups that carry 4 toolboxes, or 4 medkits or 4 flashlights to be "sweaty"? If so, why shouldn't the killer respond in kind? If not, why not?

Yes OK, you are right of course - but that's why I said he's essentially a possessed doll. Because how is him transferring his spirit from his dying body into the body of a doll via voodoo REALLY that different from 'possessed doll'. Seems a bit nitpicky to me!

It's the difference between being forced into a form, and having the ability to force yourself into other's forms. I.e. a body swap mechanic. Annabelle, for instance has no lore that lets her conceivably take over a human body, even temporarily, neither can she canonically break limbs without making physical contact. She is just a possessed doll.

Chucky can canonically do those things, and more, making for the possibility of fun and unique game mechanics.

It's because video games are often viewed as a form of escapism from the real world. When everywhere you turn there's someone complaining about something politically, whether it's on a late night show, or Saturday Night Live, or Facebook, or Twitter or your workplace and just want to be able to go somewhere where you can turn your brain off and enjoy yourself for a few minutes without having that bombarding your senses.

I would argue that either side of that is political. Politics is life, in that it is essentially how society functions. A space where certain discussions are not allowed or encouraged is still making a political statement, a statement that those sorts of politics shouldn't be discussed. Every work of narrative fiction has a political theory to it, from the libertarianism of the sword of truth series, to the anti-industrialist sentiment that drives the lord of the rings. Horror too, is often political, from the Dawn of the Dead tying into Romero's thoughts on the civil rights movement, to the anti-corporate sentiment in the first Alien.

Well said man, that made me rethink everything. Damn

  • I think it's good as is. Being able to see survivor items is a way to help balance for not only how wildly they can change gameplay flow depending on the item, but also balances for the 4v1 nature of the game.

Also chests exist and you can drop/swap items with other survivors, and the rarity/add-ons aren't shown, so it is a limited knowledge at best. You can see a key in the lobby, and do everything you can to stop it, just to find out at the end you let the other three escape over a green key that didn't even have add-ons.

  • Lots of fun stuff to reply to.

    1. Force - making angry posts on twitter isn't a force. I know, it's fun to claim a giant company was forced to do something because they got hate on twitter, but if that was the case, we would already have a fnaf chapter and the ui would have definitely been reverted. Compared to both of those, the noise BHVR gets regarding sexuality just isn't #########. (And I would argue they got just as much hate from people against representation as they did for, that's how twitter works.)

    2. Representation - yeah, if you grew up a straight white man, or even a straight white woman it may not seem that important. It's difficult to see outside of yourself and in the US, and most western media, straight and white are the default. That's why a gay athlete hugging and kissing his husband after being drafted gets protests, while a straight one kissing his wife isn't even remarked upon. There have been an abundance of great essays and books on representation, why it matters, and how it can be done right. We also have historical evidence showing that race and sexuality representation can literally change attitudes (reference "Will and Grace effect")

    3. Bugs - the game will never run perfectly and be totally balanced. Literally no multiplayer game meets those tests. If that is your personal requirement for new things to be added, that's fine, just be aware you may also add on "no new characters until every player is sent a unicorn"

    4. Laws - a few people have taken umbrage to the OP referencing death. Fact is in over 20 countries, including some major world powers, being caught in bed with someone of the same sex is punishable by death. Whatever you think about representation, I hope we can all agree, that's just messed up.

you just drop your key boom counter play to that counter and you have time to go pick it up and drop it on the spot if the killer tries to guard it.

Besides Hatch's main problem is how easy it is to open with a key in a swf this is not a unrelated issue swf's are very common and need to be considered in balancing the hatch.

Also, have you yet realized that the brilliant counter you have to Franklin's Demise (a perk that makes survivors drop their items) is to drop their items? That's a real "they can't fire me if I quit" mentality there

You seem to be of the opinion that something has to work 100% of the time, in all situations to be considered a counter. I disagree with that. In the scenario you're listing, why is the Survivor got all the time in the world to drop and pick up this key? How uneven is the pressure being applied if they have this time?

Nerfing an item due to swf concerns needlessly punishes solo survivor players, which means there will be less of them, which means that you'll end up facing more swf squads. That's why I think it is a separate issue.

  • @AChaoticKiller said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1973441#Comment_1973441

Franklins isn't really a counter since you can just drop your key say at shack for latter and in a swf just have a friend go pick it up for you.

However the main issue with keys is once a survivor dies since once it gets to 1 gen you can just go look for hatch and escape which is what swf's do. At this point the killer can't do much other than try to find a survivor who is looking for hatch and hope it is the key user and even then the other 1-2 will still look for hatch and if they find it they will guide the key user to it or if they get sacrificed just go pick it off them then open hatch.

There just isn't any real counter play, once the key gets to hatch your losing at least 1 kill and regardless EGC is starting so the other 1-2 basically skipped gens and can escape, if there are 2 left after that your more than likely losing 2 kills.

Of course Franklin's is a counter. It isn't on a timer or only used once, you can always knock the key out of their hand when they pick it up.

The other is more the swf issue, but If you are there, don't look for the survivor, find the hatch, that's where they're going, or slug it out, make the seeker come to you or choose to abandon the team.

  • I like it. The hook counter (killer side) is useless, but it's out of the way. I like the ability to resize, and I can actually see and read the names and score points without squinting

  • Big guy/gal with a weapon can't figure out how to stop one survivor with a key?

I agree they have some issues, but to claim they have no counterplay? You can see them brought in (unless found in chest) and you can bury any survivor with one, or bring franklin's demise and make everyone lose their items.

If the whole team is alive, the hatch won't spawn until the last gen is done, that gives you a bit of time to figure out how to kill one of them. If you can't, honestly you probably wouldn't have won that match anyway, key or no key.

The concept of Chucky is essentially a possessed doll, so the only way that it could work is if you play as the doll Chucky the majority of the time, and when it's time to hoist and hook a survivor, the spirit rises up out of the doll (superimposed over him) and does the lifting.

    Not quite.

Chucky is the soul of a voodoo practicioner who transferred into a doll when his body was about to die. The voodoo angle gives more options.

The people who want Chucky can't even logically explain how he would hook a survivor w/o it being questionable. They just want him in the game. When it comes time to explain his mechanics and how he'd work, they're silent. Chucky WOULD be cool to have, but I'm not going to disagree that he doesn't fit in. He's toy size, he does not have super human strength and I cannot see him carrying a survivor to the hooks w/o it being hilarious. And were not really looking for humor in DBD when it comes to killers so I'd agree with OP on the Chucky point.

I see that claim a lot, I already explained in this thread some ideas of how it could work, basically leaning more into the lore of the original movies. For an even more thorough breakdown, this had been around for some time

Yeah, but it's a team thing. Everyone has to do it to avoid Evil within tier 3, and there is always someone that realises too late (that includes me sometimes lol).

I had a game a couple of days ago where I was the first one to find out he had Judith's tombstone. He did not gain tier from me because I saw him early game and went to the other side and kept an eye. He had something else that reduced the amount of stalking required because it didn't take that long. I think 1 gen had been done when he moried me and nothing else got done after that. Everyone packed and started crouching everywhere until they died.

Ok, but if we nerf every killer that survivors play stupid against from time to time we'll have nobody left.

  • The thing is, with that build it takes tons of stalking before you can actually hit t3. I don't believe it is OP because it has a very simple counter for survivors.
