This killer is quite weak from what I've seen. It takes 8 blades for a health state where slinger and huntress take 1 shot

Yeah, I'm really hoping they reduce that, maybe to 4. I don't think it should just be 1, because they are small knives, but if you took 4 of those bad boys to the body you're definitely going to have a problem.

  • Honestly I think a lot of the reason for it is role.

If the survivor gets pissed off by play they don't think is fair, or fun, they can't do much about it other than quit on the hook or dc.

Post game chat is really the only place for them to let that frustration out.

Meanwhile if the killer gets tilted, he can camp and tunnel whoever pissed him off, so there is just less reason to bother in the chat. He solved the problem during the match.

I know this community are biased to killers but i just watched zubat's video and new killer is disgusting as hell. I am sure even Scottjund agree with this

    LMAO 🤣🤣🤣

Yup, the 110 speed killer that needs to hit you 8 times in succession with his ranged attack to change health States doesn't have counterplay, pull the other one, it's got bells on it.

Gonna need some video evidence of that, every video I've seen his knives have been stopped by contact with the environment.

If he wore a hoodie or something to cover his face, then yes, he would pretty much transform into a mysterious or creepy killer, rightfully fitting next to all the already existing killers. He would pretty much be closest to Legion, but still a mysterious Killer. You show the face of the killer and it's just a human face, that's not menacing at all.

I am not ignorant of the fact that there are human Killers in horror movies, I watch a lot of horror movies with humans as the main killer (even though I do love me some of that supernatural stuff like Grudge and Ring). My point is that none of the killers before Trickster has been as human as he is and that bothers me because I see DBD as a game where the killers are either terrifying, mysterious, strong, frightening, creepy, etc - you know, something to do with horror. Trickster possesses none of these elements and because of it, he is a quite boring killer in my eyes. If you find ordinary human killers scary, that's alright, I personally don't.

He hums to himself when he's about to hook someone. Lore wise he recorded the death screams of his victims as he tortured them to make a new album. That's not creepy? You're walking down a dark alley and you see someone walk towards you, blood spattered across his face, carrying a large bladed baseball bat. His face is a cocky grin, almost a post-coital look as he reaches into his coat and pulls out a throwing knife, his grin widening. That wouldn't creep you out?

As we have all seen the new killer, The Trickster. I am sure a vast majority of us feel like this new addition to DBD is what we might call, uninspired.

I do have some ideas i would love to share and see what you all think.

I Would love to see a more zombified version of the trickster. Maybe some torn flesh on majority of the body. a missing section of the mouth area with a continues smile.

Possibly damaged clothing with some blood stains, mostly to make room for prestige cotumes. What do you all think?

I find your lack of imagination, boring.

We have undead looking killers already, why should they all look the same? We've got so many blood-covered cosmetics it looks like a bad Carrie reboot on some matches. Some of the best horror movie killers look completely normal, for example.

  • @Sunbreaker7 said:

I don't want to take anything away from those who find the new Killer to their liking, rather more power to you. I am not here to be a downer, I just want to express my thoughts on Trickster from a design perspective and whether he fits in the world of DBD.

    APPEARANCE:

Trickster is the very first Killer in DBD that looks and feels like a non-supernatural mere mortal human Killer. Even though we already got plenty of those like Pig, Leatherface, Twins, DeathSlinger, Ghostface, Legion, etc. The difference here is that all these killers either cover their face or are disfigured in some other way, thus making them more of a mystery and a frightening character that one would not wish to face alone or in the dark. However, Trickster has zero horror elements to him. He is just a human wielding a fancy-looking weapon. This alone makes him pretty boring in my eyes. He does not look like something a survivor should be afraid of and run away. He looks like someone the four survivors could easily overpower and show who's the real monster. What comes to his background and story, that is a whole different thing I am not touching, I am only talking about his appearance compared to the rest of the killers.

    ---

    POWER:

Trickster feels like a cheap copy-paste version of Huntress. Both throw projectiles and reload at lockers, the only difference is that Trickster has to hit more of his projectiles to injure the survivors and that they bounce around a little... Yeah, such innovation! At least with Blight and Twins, these two latest non-licensed Killers before Trickster had unique abilities. It's like the Killer design team has hit a wall in creativity all of a sudden and had to repackage one of the old killers. The name Trickster itself should give lots of ideas for Killer abilities. Trapper sets traps, Huntress throws hunting axes, Doctor uses shock therapy... Trickster... Trickster throws shiny sharp blades... Now does that sound Trickster to you? Does the name have to be tied to the Killer's power, of course not, but Trickster is a pretty unique name, you don't usually throw a name like that around without giving some reason for it.

    ---

    CONCLUSION:

I would have imagined Trickster to have somewhat of a Joker personality, someone who is mentally insane but even that is something that Trickster does not possess in his nature, he is just a random guy rocking a sixpack and speaking Korean, that's all. It almost feels like Trickster's whole reason to exist had something other to do than being a Killer in DBD, in other words, uninspired by the DBD universe...

Overall, I find the new Killer quite underwhelming and hope to see future new killers staying true to the DBD theme, creepy, mysterious, and frightening with unique abilities not yet seen with other killers. If BHVR wants to make killers similar to Trickster in the future as well and people enjoy it, I am not one to argue and try to take that away from you. I just wanted to express how I feel about the new Killer and see if there are others who share my thoughts.

Now it's your turn, let me know what you think about Trickster and whether anything I said made any sense to you. I hope we can be civil about this and have a nice discussion.

"Trickster is the very first Killer in DBD that looks and feels like a non-supernatural mere mortal human Killer. Even though we already got plenty of those like Pig, Leatherface, Twins, DeathSlinger, Ghostface, Legion, etc. The difference here is that all these killers either cover their face or are disfigured in some other way"

So if he had a hoodie or wore a dead pig on his face or a Halloween costume he'd be ok?

I see a lot of these types of arguments, and it makes me wonder how limited your experience with horror movies is. Not just the big budget summer slashers, but the giant variety of horror. The trope of a "Charming Psychopath" has existed in horror since chocolate syrup was being used as fake blood. From Strangers on a train, to Man Bites Dog, to Nightcrawler, the list goes on. Want more disturbing imagery? Try Audition, one of the best horror movie villains there are, look wise? She's a 20 something year old pretty young woman.

That Doesn't scare me because I know for a fact that it could never happen. Animatronics are bolted to the floor, and do not possess onboard computers. They are completely mechanical, immobile, and incapable of becoming bloodthirsty murderers.

But this argument isnt about DbD being realistic or scary. Just that the majority of fans are treating this new killer like BHVR straight added a kitten with a rubber mallet as its weapon as the new Killer.

If the idea is "it doesn't scare me because I know it can't happen" how doesn't that apply to the entire game? Literally none of it makes sense in the real world, from hovering dead nurses who still move, to the licensed characters that clearly never existed, to the zombie spellcasting cannibal.

Hey guys it’s nice to see your output but this post is almost 2 years old lmao😭

Lol, well I guess the question is after 2 years do you still feel the same way?

  • No, I opened one myself as doc the other day just because I felt bad for the horrible teammates one of the survivors I was playing against had

  • I want the half burned down studio as a map. It would be something fun and new.

  • mxzn77kuhms3t37tbd5e4crbleiaxmnz_00.jpg

Only if he looks like this

  • I like him. It's good to see dbd branching out into different types of horror across the world. It'll be interesting to see what sort of cosmetic options we get with him.

  • @dezzmont said:

One of my buds, who is a professional paramedic who regularly does Psych transports put it this way:

"This dude is the most realistic serial killer in the entire cast. Someone hit it out of the park with the design. He needs an idle animation where he is annoyed or irritated but once you start messing with his cosmetics to rotate him he perks up and starts posing. You neeeeeeed to pay attention to him. He has to be the focus, or he’ll die in his head. Without attention, he dies.

He’s the artist, he’s the star. The show does not exist without him. He is the show, the beginning and the end. He is the sun-king."

This guy doesn't play DBD, but he messaged me to ask if I had thoughts on Ji-Woon Hak (he called him by name) because he was so amped about the design, probably because it speaks to him on a very real level because he deals with real world psychos who look totally normal but will say they are going to murder you or bite themselves until they bleed sitting in the ambulance.

    This right here.

  • @malloymk said:

It's so annoying. And yes the first thing I do is steer to a perk take it (one gets taken by then entity). Sometimes I go right to the next perk I want and the entity takes that. Ok no big deal, straight to the last perk. Nah. Enitity takes that too. This has been in the game for too long.

The grind is horrific as it is, do we need to get bugged bloodwebs too?

The bloodweb exists to make sure you understand the devs hate you.

I'm slowly losing hope ya'll lmao and subtly hating the developers for their overhanging theme of "the grind needs to be unbearably long"

    I don't

Why are people on here so arrogantly certain of matters when they don't even know the characters they speak about? I'll just leave this here for you. It's not a baseball bat, it's a lead pipe.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aihxQE043YU

And I'll repeat again, I would have rather they used Hoffman over Amanda just so it would be a bit more realistic when it comes to the physicality of overpowering the survivors. But it's bE, we gotta hit those diversity numbers ya know?

I know the characters, getting over on a single dude once is luck.

Seriously, watch professional mma. Tell me when you see a fighter with over 1 foot reach disadvantage who wins a fight. You'll have to email me, as this game will be long dead by the time it happens. There's a reason weight classes exist in combat sports.

Hoffman would of been a better character to wear the pig mask, no question. Amanda overpowers Eric Matthews in Saw III, this twink wouldn't stand a chance.

She's nipple high with a blade attached to her wrist. The "twink" as you say has about a foot of range before the bat even enters the equation.

Just using the examples I've been given. While it's also ridiculous to think of Amanda carrying Jeff she could for sure beat the hell out of jiwoon.

He's got a baseball bat and a bunch of throwing knives. She's got her Assassin's Creed cosplay blade and David Cameron's college girlfriend on her head. I just don't see her winning.

  • @Mozzie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1988633#Comment_1988633

Legion is clearly inspired from "You're Next" and "The Strangers". While Deathslinger feel's more like a killer in one of those run of the mill horror movies from a full moon or lesser production company, but I think it's obvious he was modeled after 'The Judge' from "The Frighteners"...right down to the decayed jaw. Demogorgon does NOT fit in DBD, and was complained about when he was released because of the slippery slope it would cause, which has brought us to today.

A decent argument could at least be made for Demogorgon as it was an actual 'monster', which is unique for DBD and that Strangers Things current popularity would help bolster the game's playerbase. I, along with several others, disagreed about his inclusion due to the appeal of a younger audience. Clearly that concern was warranted as there is a lot of people on these forums who know very little about the genre.

This killer, 'The Trickster', is ridiculous. Having a 120lb human fireman's carry a David or Bill just makes the game silly. What's so tricky about him anyways? I read his incredibly lengthy backstory(movie treatment) and not only is there nothing clever there, it's kind of embarrassing. Now I know the horror genre sets a pretty low bar when it comes to premise but this is pretty far down the chain in Jack Frost and Gingerdead man territory.

If this is the best killer bE can come up with maybe it's time to stop.

So we're just going to ignore the pig in the room? It's ok, she is short enough you can overlook her easily.

You’re clearly missing the point, so allow me to elaborate a little further.

BHVR are so short on ideas that the best thing they could offer the community was a killer who’s skill very closely resembled what a hacker of their own game designed. Please don’t get me started on the fact that it’s a KPOP killer and it’s pandering to the Koreans and those who like that genre. They honestly couldn’t get much further away from a horror game if they tried.

You should watch more horror movies that aren't made in the west. DbD is expanding to cover horror lore from all over the world, I'm sorry if you are having issues getting it.

  • It's removed as soon as a gen is touched, so in that scenario nobody would be doing gens until everyone had been hooked multiple times. They already lost.

  • And people say the devs don't pay any attention to the forums.

    Most realistic Survivor yet.

Look, if you don't like how the character looks, that's fine. But to sit there and say "They don't like the character because they don't look like a killer" is laughable. You are either not sure why you don't like the look and am pulling something out of your ass or you're uncomfortable with the idea that we as human beings are monsters deep down and being reminded of that is scary.

I've given pity kills before. There's a difference between me crouching at the hook and leaving because I couldn't find noed in time. I despise the perk. That's my opinion.

It's not about pity. It's taking the victory when you have it rather than risk defeat to try for some "more complete" win.

I don't want it removed. It has its place.

I do want to see the killer have to make a play to get their one kill or more. Not get one down and camp them hoping the totem isn't found in time. The token suggestion is my favourite which has been suggested by content creators and many community members.

It's 1 kill. And they had to "make a play" to get that 1, even with NOED.

If they are camping either the hook or totem (or if by some chance they managed to get a lucky totem spawn next to the hook they used) then open the gates and leave. Let them have their 1 kill and lose the match with it. Even if they don't have NOED, if they have 1 hooked in the egc and are face camping, just leave. 3 escaped is a victory for the survivors any day of the week.

Just to note, I'm not saying to do anything I don't, even as killer if it's been a good match and I've sacrificed 3 I'll give the last one the hatch or let them escape via the gate. Their team lost already, let them have the point.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1986875#Comment_1986875

I don't know how long you've played dbd for because noed actually used to activate once the gates were OPENED - so no biggie. Obviously that's a super weak perk and needed a change.

You're whole argument with me you had the activation condition wrong. Do you understand why time is very much of the essence with this perk? In its current state I do think killer gets it too easy here. These players that hate the perk do have merit in my opinion because they see the sacrifice result and feel cheesed. It's not hard to sacrifice with this perk (in low/med level).

2 years off and on, about 70/30 killer to survivor, which works out to roughly 3-5 survivor matches per week, almost always as solo (I've got a couple friends from OW I play with every other weekend or so, not a full swf as it's 2-3 of us).

I agree time is of the essence. My main argument for leaving it as it is however is because whether it pops with the gate or the last gen, it can still be removed before it ever gets the chance. There is no comparable perk on survivor side, not even close. There are a max of 5 totems it can pop on. Just 5, all of which take very little time to clear and do so without a skill check.

Unless the killer is running undying (which is very unlikely without another hex as well) or Thrill of the hunt (which should take priority to clear in that scenario) they don't have any clue the dulls are being cleared until egc happens and NOED doesn't pop, meaning that unlike with gens both killer and survivor have the exact same amount of information.

I fully agree a totem counter should exist, but as currently neither side knows where dull totems are or how many remain on map without extra perks/add-ons, I do not believe the lack of a counter is a good enough reason on its own to remove or change NOED.

This statement makes me wonder if we're actually playing the same game...

I haven't seen NOED in a match as survivor since getting into the green ranks. It's been a while. Around rank reset I'll get a few matches where killers have it, but then I run Inner strength, and have the memory of a brain damaged goldfish in matches, so I clear every totem I see, lit or not to make sure I have a cheeky locker heal when I need it.

  • @Toblerone007 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1986852#Comment_1986852

If there was a totem counter then my position on the fence would be it needs no change but I digress.

You can still be sacrificed once the gates are open regardless of noed. It happens.

What are you talking about? Noed pops after the last gen is done. Not the gates.

Yeah, it's been so long since I actually saw NOED pop in a Survivor match I forgot. Seriously haven't seen it since I got into green, and it's not worth taking as killer, since I generally play to slow gen progress and want to avoid having them all done.

Yes, I am aware you can be sacrificed right up until you leave, I was saying newer survivors tend to believe the game is won before it is over.

  • Powered? Guess that shows how long it's been since I've actually seen NOED activate playing either side, good stuff.

  • @Toblerone007 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1986764#Comment_1986764

I would agree with you if there was a totem counter. There's not.

Noed isn't a problem for my matches. I hardly see it. The perk isn't overpowered. I'm on the change it side of the fence because I understand it's an unfun perk.

I'm all for a totem counter for both sides.

Honestly I think NOED feels unfun because newer survivors assume that once the gate is open they won. More experienced survivors will 99 the gates and only open them when everyone is ready, so even if the killer has NOED it'll activate for all of 15 seconds before the game is over. They know at any time the advantage can shift.

  • @Asssblasster625 said:

Doesn’t it only pop when the gates are opened?

Yes, that is correct. Which considering that you can just 99 both gates and they don't regress, by the time one is actually opened the survivor team really should all be ready to leave.

  • @MadLordJack said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1986754#Comment_1986754

Not how NOED works. Firstly, it's not an add-on or an offerring, it's cost means nothing. Secondly, survivors get zero notification that the killer has the perk and cleansing all 5 totems agaisnt a killer without NOED is almost a 4k by default. Thirdly, even with NOED you get more value out of it if the survivors cleanse all 5 totems. Fourthly, YOU CAN AFK AND STILL ACTIVATE IT.

That means the killer does nothing to earn it, it's entirely on the survivors to prevent it, but the actions they have to take to prevent it are more beneficial to the killer than the perk itself even when the perk is in play. Worse, the survivors could cleanse 4 totems but not find the last and get the worst of both worlds. Which is actually more common than cleansing all 5 totems.

And lastly, I don't rember the last time I equipped NOED and it didn't activate. There is no gamble, all of the reasons stated above lead to one conclusion: it's better to let the killer have their one free kill and escape than it is to give them the insane map pressure of cleansing totems in solo que, of which are the significant majority of players.

It's exactly how NOED works. It is a perk, which makes it so you give up more to run it than if it was just an add-on. Taking NOED can mean leaving a good information perk like nurse's calling or tinkerer, or a gen regression like ruin or pop. That's the gamble. You bring 3/4ths of a usual perk loadout for most of the match, hoping the last 1/4 will activate.

Cleaning totems isn't an automatic 4k, unless your team is more root vegetable than man.

You can't remember the last time you took NOED and it didn't activate? I can't remember the last time it did. Perhaps there is a rank difference there. Regardless, our personal anecdotal evidence is pretty much useless one way or another.

NOED is a gamble because it can be stopped from ever activating. There isn't a single survivor perk you can say the same of. Totems take very little time to cleanse, and don't even have skill checks to fail. If you don't want to take the 15 seconds on each one to clean it before endgame, just remember where they are and find the lit one later. Since there is a finite amount of places on each map totems can spawn, as you play you will naturally learn where they are all, making it so that you can stop NOED from activating merely by having map knowledge, which again, is only something you can do against killer's perks.

  • Body blocking used to bother me, but it's a valid enough target, and I'm the one with a weapon, while they are the ones offering up free hits, so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Flashlight stuns at pallets used to as well, but I've learned that a survivor who wastes time going for the blind at a pallet is also useless with the flashlight in almost every other circumstance, so let them get the blind points then knock them down.

  • Lots of information perks already listed will help, but honestly, with how new to the game it appears you are, I would suggest playing as survivor and trying to hide. It'll give you a better idea of what spots to search as killer. Playing either side helps you improve with the other, especially in the beginning.

The next issue is finding it in time. You can't tell teammates to stop doing gens and making sure all totems are accounted for as well.

There's no accounting for bad teammates, sorry. Hopefully the mmr fixes it so you end up matched with survivors who understand what the secondary objectives are and how to play them. In the meantime, do what I do when I play solo, keep an eye for each totem as you do gens, if everyone is up at 2 left, go clear totems.

  • @MadLordJack said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1986695#Comment_1986695

Giving someone a massive powerspike they didnt earn in any way that can only be avoided by the even bigger power spike of forcing solo players to do totems is not great design.

They spent all the bp to unlock the perk, and played with 75% of a normal loadout for the majority of the game. All on a gamble that the survivors wouldn't take the time to stop it from even activating at all. NOED isn't a reward for playing badly, it's a gamble you take before the match starts that the survivors will ignore their secondary objectives in favor of doing the gens as fast as they can. If they do, it works out. If they don't ignore the totems, the killer spent all game handicapping himself for nothing.

Because you can learn totem spawns for each map and almost achieve similar time in finding a hex. I might find it a little slower w/o small game but I take that trade to run my more versatile perks.

I do see a place for endgame play. I'm not against it. I think noed should boost the endgame for killer. My only gripe are those games where you're one hooked and your team leaves because noed isn't found in time.

That first line is pretty much it, isn't it?

You can learn the totem spawns for each map.

That means you don't need small game or any other perk to find and cleanse them, which means you don't need to bring anything to specifically counter the possibility of NOED. As you said you self. You can learn the totem spawns for each map.

That's how powerful NOED is. Basic map knowledge can stop it from ever activating.

Well they're camping the hook because if they leave and don't find somebody the survivors have no incentive to stay. There are two exit gates. My response of 120 seconds was you have finite time to find noed which boils down to an rng element.

    1. I didn't realize you meant camping specifically at endgame. Honestly I think that makes my point stronger. It's not even 2 full minutes to search the map, as by the time you've covered enough of it to fix 5 gens you should know where just about everything is.

    2. Yes, if they are face camping at the egc, you should just leave, NOED or not. Just let the poor killer have 1 so he doesn't have.to hear how displeased the entity is, and take the 3e. It's survivors who play that "never leave a man behind" philosophy that make egc camping viable. At egc camping is to bait altruistic survivors, the best way to deal with any bait is to not take it.

    3. Quite a few gimmicks in this game use rng. Given that NOED doesn't have a built in undying mechanic that has it pop from unlit totem to totem when cleansed, and that totem locations themselves are not random, there has to be an rng element when it comes to which totem is converted. If you played a good game and kept your eyes open, you'll see at least 3 of the 5 totems without having to go out of your way to find them, and if you don't want to clean them right away, can remember where they are to check later.

  • I see a lot of "I shouldn't be punished for not cleansing all the totems". I agree. But having a killer perk activate isn't a punishment for survivors, it's the perk activating for a killer. There is no equal perk on survivor side, because survivors don't have a class of perks that can be taken from them. As killer I can't spend 15 seconds creating a totem to take DS away, for example, or adrenaline, but a decent survivor team can make it so NOED never even triggers. In fact it happens so often that now the idea of it triggering normally is called a "punishment" and not just a clearly defined stage of the game.

That's why I (half jokingly) suggested bringing back the original NOED, which did not rely on totems. 4 months of having that back and somehow I think survivors will see how well balanced the current version is.

  • Exactly. Nothing in this game takes nearly as long as waiting for a single survivor to go through all hook states. 120 seconds. 2 solid minutes of a match with an average total time of 5-10 minutes long. 2 solid minutes of knowing exactly where the killer is and having the entire rest of the map to explore. There's a reason you don't see face campers much in the red ranks, and right there is it. No good killer is wasting 2 whole minutes letting the survivors do whatever just to make sure he gets 1k.
