Either way is lazy, even if one is likes better, just slapping on lgbtq on a character that fans fantasize about is lazy. It's difficult with tokenism because it's always about virtue signalling, even if someone likes it. I have characters that are lgbtq, and the focus isn't on their sexuality. So to see dbd with all their resources take that out is irksome. I don't mind if david king was gay, but it seems very forced. Even if the situation was relatable to some members, the writing and broadcasting seems forced vs being organic.
Have you actually read the lore entry in question, or are you assuming based on a Twitter post? Because it would be really, really lazy to criticize lore you haven't actually read... Like doing s book report without ever having read the book, lazy

I’ve been playing DBD since 2017 and David King was always a character that jumped out to me. I’m from Manchester (England) and I found it so cool that David was also from here as I’ve never seen that before in a video game, as normally when a character is British they’re from London. Seeing how much detail the developers put into his perk names / quotes was amazing, as I never imagined seeing things like “Dead Hard’ and ‘No Mither’ being used as they’re just such niche expressions used in my home town.
I’ve grown up around sports and they were always something I excelled at during my time in school. Rugby was always my thing and then I got into kickboxing during my college years and now I’m a full-time Personal Trainer, which is just a dream job.
Since about the age of 7 I’ve known I was ‘different’ - I had girlfriends as that was what my family expected from me. Being anything other than heterosexual wasn’t ever discussed in my family. Men got with women and women got with men. That’s what I was brought up knowing to be true. I felt hollow for the longest time as I was living a life that I didn’t feel in control of. I was in auto-pilot for a long time, just doing what was expected from me and not doing what I actually wanted to do.
I went on a journey of self-discovery at the age of 25 when I realised that not allowing myself to be authentic was slowly killing me and it couldn’t go on much longer. I came to the conclusion that I was not a heterosexual male, but I was in fact a homosexual male. Being so heavily involved in sports for all my life just felt like I was locked in a cage. It’s no secret that that world can be deep rooted in homophobia and hearing some of the comments fellow teammates would make, just didn’t leave me feeling safe enough to be my true self. I loved sports and didn’t want to give that up and I felt like if they knew the real me, I’d be disowned. These feelings also lead back to my family. My mum was always talking about grandkids and how she couldn’t wait for me and my then-girlfriend to have them. I just had such an immense pressure on my shoulders to stay in the closet, but it eventually reached a boiling point.
When I did eventually ‘come out’ I got my fair share of bigoted comments from people I once classed as friends and family. Some didn’t understand how I could possibly be gay, because I wasn’t effeminate and had girlfriends. Which really boiled my blood. I didn’t realise somebody’s sexuality was a personality trait? Why couldn’t I be into ‘masculine’ things and still be gay? It never made sense to me.
Now this brings me back to David. Him being gay just resonates with me so damn much. We almost feel like the same person now. Some people don’t understand why representation is important, but this is why. If I had a character like David King whilst I was growing up, it would have made it a lot easier for me to accept who I was and realise there was never anything wrong with me.
I truly appreciate what Behaviour has done and I hope that the increase in representation we’re seeing throughout the media will make it easier for the youth of today, as my childhood / teen years truly felt like hell.

I'm gay. I was surprised they ret-conned David, but now that I see his new cosmetic, I'm totally on board (I'm shallow that way) and currently leveling him lol. In the end, I'm actually glad they chose him because he doesn't look like a mish-mash of gay stereotypes.
I think of the term "woke" not as people who are liberal and progressive (which is usually good). It refers to extreme neo-liberalism over classic liberalism.
In this context, it would be accusing everyone who isn't ecstatic about this change as carte blanche hating gay people when in fact, they probably don't. I've seen people who would have had no problem with a new character being gay, just didn't like changing an existing one, yet they are still accused of homophobia which is not cool. Not everyone with criticism (so long as it is non-destructive) is auto-homophobic.
"Woke" refers to the type of people who claim to be "right side of history" when they have a tendency to weaponize the progressive stack against those they believe to be lower on it than they are. Just muh opinion.

I'm saying creators create what they want but don't wave a big "representation matters" flag over your work as the driving motivation for making the things you make and most certainly do not ever feel obligated to do it. Its more of a hot topic than legion lore. I'm against all representation in video games when things are done for that sole purpose. I think video game developers should develop video games and the players can feel how they want about it, including if they feel represented or not. I feel like many game developers feel obligated to do this these days because of real life social influences and outcries. I've been playing video games my whole life. Of course, you are correct that people didn't bring up sexuality then, probably because it was still considered "self defense" to murder another man if you thought he was flirting with you, and the president was on television saying that AIDS didn't matter because it was just killing "the gays".
Weirdly enough, as people got more used to the idea that gay people didn't deserve death just for existing, the conversation that's been going on since at least '83 expanded to include their feelings as well.

It has been my experience that anyone who uses "woke" to mean any liberal, progressive, or inclusive decision a group makes. Why would that make a difference? Whether it was op or another survivor who did the first bit of work, it's the team's success the rides on it being completed.

Same thing happened when DS was nerfed. A bunch of survivor only streamers convinced their fans that if they didn't run it, that would somehow make BHVR revert the changes. The "perk boycott" or whatever you'd like to term it lasted about a week.

I use the Status Audio SAANC-FS Flagship ANC Headphones. They aren't wired, but do have the ability to go wired (cable included). I've used them on Xbox, switch, PS5, laptop and on my phone, I like the sound quality a lot, and really love the battery life, which appears to be something around like 40-100 hours. (I'm not kidding, I fly twice a week, listening to music for 6-8 hours at a time, play PS5 in the hotel for 3 hours a night all week, and still only charge them once a month) I cannot recommend them highly enough for just about anything you need headphones for.

Try bringing it up with whoever sold you it and mention the frame rate and optimization issues. If you've had the game for a while, they will most likely choose not to refund you - but it's worth a shot anyway.

And in simple words, I´m angry with rewriting the story of an existing character as they want, don't taking care of fans. Just imagine if your favorite survivor is Kate/Feng/Meg etc, and in the next tome suddenly it comes that she has a cock.
I would see no issue with that. My favorite survivor is Claudette. If I found out in the next lore drop that she was transgender (you know, the actual term adults use, instead of being transphobic ######### stains) it wouldn't bother me a bit. She could be a lesbian, she could be straight, she could be ace. Wouldn't hurt me any because I am happy at the variety of life and don't decide which character I like based on my lust.

There are literally gay children all around the world who are being told daily that being gay is bad, and makes them a weak, craven thing. Some of those children will now be able to look at David and see even the King of survivors can be a proud gay man. Personally I think that's a bit more important than whether or not the game provides you with fodder for your wank bank.

Kind of a big difference there.
On one hand we have an author who, after she already finished the series says "well, this character was gay the whole time, even though I never did anything, wrote anything or in any way supported that idea in the actual books"
On the other we have a game where lore about each character is given out piecemeal, where after working with GaymerX for over a year, decided that the next reveal for David's lore is his sexuality.
