They worked on it and you're assuming speed. When did they work on it then? When did they decide? They said david and Dwight shipping helped them choose how to handle david. They also said it's retroactive. So instead of assuming, they said they worked with someone on david. All of this adds up to probably within a year they decided this I'd say. They give many reasons that hints at this. We can just disagree without them giving too many specifics. But I'd argue they won't give too much specifics like, when did they plan this? How did they get to this? Etc. Transparency isn't their thing.
-
Retroactive, he wasn't gay, they made him gay recently. They also talk about how they collabed to write it retroactively to make it sound natural, but he was literallt just stamped to be gay. Nothing wrong with him being gay, I just think inclusion can be handled better than "they like this character and have ship art so let's do this asap just to push content out." Sounds like they didn't have the care in mind so it's haphazardly done. I just want the lore and love to naturally be there. People shouldn't force people who aren't straight to be straight either, not a believer in conversion therapy to appease the masses. Be free to be who you are. A character with that in mind, would be an amazing character and I'd probably main someone like that regardless of orientation.

Don't forget the good guys who have insulted, labelled, and off handedly attacked people's opinions they do not agree.
Part of the issue with david king, is that in the q and a, they admitted it's done for speed, to make a character lgbtq as fast as possible plus the fan art. For everyone who says, wow, you don't know if they imagined him to be gay. No, they added that literally with the utmost speed to hurry in an lgbtq character onto someone who had a girlfriend before because there was a lot of shipping and fan demand. This is clearly community appeasement. They literally hit all the check boxes of that in the q&a. Nothing wrong with having and lgbtq character in here, it's just exceedingly clear that even according to them, this was something done really fast to put in an lgbtq character as soon as possible. For those who think I'm crazy, or wrong that this was thoughtfully done, can check out it out.

Felix has a wife!
Confirmed not gay!
And there's more than that I don't remember off the top of my head.

Why not doing this for both survivors and killers? Do you really feel the need to adapt your build depending on what items the survivors bring?
Yes because the power role needs to prepare in this game due to balancing. If that wasn't apart of this then you wouldn't be able to see survivors like they can't see killer. Based off of the lobby itself. It's designed for killers to gather knowledge and for survivors to be in the dark. You're supposed to threaten and knowledge is power.

Yup, I run mostly altruism. Kindred, botany knowledge, empathetic connection, borrowed time

Yes is the short answer, and.... Killers should be able to switch killers, yes.
We were able to until the "we gave each killer MMR" which is the "reason" it was taken away
I would take the old system of learning a new killer in high ranks and being able to switch killers in lobby to this shadownerf
I hear you. When people switch to bring in medkits you can't switch to someone like plague.

Don't like things being "slapped on" So the way we write for character in things like there where little tidbits are drip feed every so often is to right out of the gate affirm their sexuality immediately and irrefutably? And if a character comes out in one of these story bits after having been in the game it has to be qualified as "slapped on" because you're not allowed to not absolutely declare their sexuality right from the get go.
This automatically creates a ridiculous double standard. Where an assumed heterosexuality is not "slapped on" but story bits revealing him to be gay are.
I'm not saying that they can't drip feed. I don't care what sexuality characters are. I'll still play david king when I reinstall dbd (wasn't Uninstalled due to him). I'm saying they collabed with someone years later, chose someone people had a lot of fanfic of with dwight, and said here you go. They don't have to note anything, that's a nonpoint. I'm talking about how they made fanfic a reality. They talked about after david king's creation and opted with this instead of making a new character, according to mandy talks I believe. It's make someone LGBTQ or make an lgbtq character. Either way it's tokenism. Idc if a character is lgbtq, if it doesn't matter then why make sexuality matter? People can fanfic any character about step on me mommy or daddy david anytime.

Between the weekly Chart posters, People who are so unbelievably obsessed with seeing this game forgotten, replaced and dead (especially on twitter and youtube) or Content creators who does nothing but cause drama.
I'm not sure who i would qualify as the most annoying type of people in this community anymore.
But one thing i do know for sure is that i will never leave this game no matter what, i've been here since the beginning and i'm damn well gonna stay with it until the end, and no amount of this game's naysayers will ever change that.
People just want it to be threatened so they can listen, players who played for a while can see that the devs have been kind of not that good with pr for a while. As long as they could make money as a business, they didn't care. Some people just miss the times they took the time to address things and listen. They want dbd to get threatened so dbd can go back to how it was when they first fell in love with dbd.

I think most people are indifferent and just don't like things being slapped on. No matter what, dbd has painted themselves into a corner. This is tokenism no matter what. Hence, if they said they talked to gaymer about it it means they didn't plan on it from the beginning. Her comment means they made it up literally, and for fans of David king they can feel that. People can disagree without being bigots. I'd be annoyed if I retired and someone imagined one of my characters to be straight.
Like fan fiction is fine, but if someone officially made my gay or nonbinary character something other than that, I'd be pissed. Why did they betray Ray or Rose like that? That's just a me thing though as a writer.

Well, you obviously can voice your opinion and feedback the way you want. But I am also free to comment on it on a public forum.
and try to view it from my perspective: you have a new forum account and as of yet you only ever participated in topics that are related to the newly added LGBTQ+ representation. I think I already understood that you actually don’t have anything against LGBTQ+ representation and iirc you were also not that upset about that (unnecessary) twitter post about it.
you were talking mostly about character attachment which kinda gets destroyed due to lore additions like this. But there have been multiple of these kinds additions already and if you actually think this is an important topic that needs to be addressed then I have already advised you (and will gladly to it again) to create a new thread in the appropriate forum Section ‚Feedback & Suggestions‘ where you can describe your problem with this kind of approach of story telling and you can do it independently from anything LGBTQ+ relation.
MandyTalk is working as Lead Community Coordinator at BHVR and part of her job includes reading and forwarding feedback from the forums to the team. It would be easier for her to collect feedback on your topic if you (and others) would talk about this not in direct relation to the LGBTQ+ inclusion/representation as these topics always get pretty heated because believe it or not there are plenty of homophobes that are just using other arguments to hide their hatred.
I think most people are indifferent and just don't like things being slapped on. No matter what, dbd has painted themselves into a corner. This is tokenism no matter what. It’s not a stunt. It’s very much in line with their normal story telling. If it was a new character there would be just as much complaints. And they expected people to also complain with their chosen approach. But… you can’t always listen only to the haters - especially not if you are caring about the topic and you want to write your character the way you want.
David is gay. And he may or may not have been gay in the minds of the creators from the very beginning. We will never know for sure. (Even if they confirmed it was always the case people would just accuse them of lying - I actually think after re reading the lore that it shouldn’t have been such a surprise)
I doubt it was from the beginning. From most game stuff they can barely look ahead. Only thing predictable that they did look ahead to I think was blight. The issue is most writers across industries use the lazy token stamp for lgbtq characters. People will always complain. Yes. But dbd has a track record of being a bit lazy and bandaid slap on with things in general. It's not out of the ordinary to say they're not doing something similar here. Throughout DBD's history, they slapped things on in an attempt to make people feel better.
-
@Viskod said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2936073#Comment_2936073
I disagree completely. Making a new character for DBD's first would be lazy and reductive. They'd be brushed off as the token gay character, and "being gay" would probably be all that the character was about. As a gay guy I am very tired of characters whose entire persona is about the fact that they are gay. For DBD's first one I think its great that they had David come out as it where in his backstory because there was already so much else to David he's just also gay.
Going forward from here I'm sure there will be more LGBT+ characters and I'll welcome them, but I'm glad the first one wasn't just a character designed from the ground up just to be gay.
Either way is lazy, even if one is likes better, just slapping on lgbtq on a character that fans fantasize about is lazy. It's difficult with tokenism because it's always about virtue signalling, even if someone likes it. I have characters that are lgbtq, and the focus isn't on their sexuality. So to see dbd with all their resources take that out is irksome. I don't mind if david king was gay, but it seems very forced. Even if the situation was relatable to some members, the writing and broadcasting seems forced vs being organic.
-
The issue with me is laziness. As a writer I think it's lazy to just slap LGBTQ on a character because there's lots of fan art. I don't care for sexuality to be noted, but if it needed to be, why didn't the devs make a new character? The anniversary character could've been lgbtq with their own chapter, lots of love. The next tome could've been their tome. It seems more like they're embracing fanships than genuinely creating something. A lazy afterthought to virtue signal while they lie about mmr on a dev stream. I love this game but I hope the relationship with the community gets better.
-
The issue is the time lost for the power vs what killers can do to regain. It's simple, out a blessing cap with tokens or increase time of blessing as they rebless. The couple second circle of heal nerf isn't enough. There's gonna be other boons i'm sure that's gonna be strong when stacked, let's hit the mechanic as a compromise to not nerf individual boons to the point theyre unusable. Like taking away the notification from thrill of the hunt was doop

Personally I haven’t found Shadowstep to be that annoying. Because it only hides things in its range, and there’s a decent chance you can hear the totem if you’re in its range, then there’s also a decent chance that if someone is running in an area with Shadowstep and you don’t see them that you’ll hear the totem, snuff it, and see the scratch marks all of a sudden and get into a chase. Also Shadowstep has no effect on just seeing or hearing the survivor normally or on blood trails, crows and killer instinct.
I guess, but in practice it still does a lot. Blocks nurses, blocks bbq, etc. Most people don't use shadow step with quick and quiet. But when theyre used together it is an issue. Also shadow step persists after you leave the range for 4 seconds about, so it's not just the range. Blocking bbq by gens etc means killers have to manually check gens, which costs most killers a lot of time. Some killers naturally handle boons better. As a survivor I helped win games by setting shadowstep near gens with spine chill. The killer can see I have shadow step, i'm long gone.

Just to clarify, survivors get only one totem each, they can't actually stack all their collective groups' Boon perks on a single totem. If four survivors bring Boons then they each have to use one of four separate totems and each totem only has that one survivor's perk benefits.
So the most "stacking" you would get in one spot on the map is one survivor's Boon perks.
The stacking is being able to set multiple boons, same effect, infinitely. Or multiple effects on one. Stacking isn't simply on one spot, it's people setting many areas.
-
@dugman said:
The only Boon that appears to be too strong at the moment is Circle of Healing, the other two don’t seem to be problematic. If they tone down Circle of Healing’s effect that should do the trick.
I agree, bu issue is resource use as when people nerf a perk other boons fill in. Survivors can pick a spot and use a boon infinitely and have multiple sets of the same boons. So I'm getting to the main core issues because even if circle is nerfed and speed is halved for example, it still grants a free medkit and goes off into many strong scenarios due to being infinite. Shadow step is also strong with builds etc and the potential for what can be a boon is really high. Think about it, quick and quiet boon, wiggle boon, and then think about these boons in tandem. So the issue is boon mechanics and not a specific boon, even though one is stronger than others. Imagine a quick and quiet with shadow step set around the map, quick and quiet with no cool down cause boon. Boons don't have cool downs. Boon:extra item use or boon you don't make sounds, etc.
-
Quite strong, that typo lol

Nothing is happening to DBD on Steam. Steams policy prevents publishers from selling/exchanging NFT's in game. This Pinhead NFT is not minted by BHVR and is not in the game. The NFT is a limited run of blockchain created tokens associated with the character model and created outside of the game by a separate company. In fact buying the NFT does not guarantee in game content. If you read the website it says 10 out of the 10,000 NFT's will randomly come with access to the Hellraiser chapter. Those 10 people are basically getting Steam keys for the content.
Here's the difference. You buy the Hellraiser content for the game through BHVR (or Steam or GOG or Humble Bundle etc.) This is the in game content and is not an NFT. It has no blockchain information associated to it. What steam doesn't want is for a company to say you have to buy an NFT to get in game content, in other words the NFT is part of the game. This situation isn't that. The Hellraiser chapter purchased anywhere is not an NFT.
Right, but we still don't have voice...why? Lol I miss precosmetic bhvr

He needs some chain buffs but not too much. When nurse uses the blink aim she can get a hit. Not saying it should be a guaranteed but using two tough aiming mechanics shouldn't be more of a hindrrence or heavy coin flip.

I really think it's the new lunge bug that's screwing him over the most. His power is designed around slowing people down juuuuuust enough to get the hit, but that's not really possible with the bug a lot of the time.
Survivors can break chains in time for small loops due to being able to break multiple chains and chains can hit environment instead of survivor. Survivors can break multiple chains at once by pressing break and walking through environment. Like demo, som add ons need to be in basekit.

Pinhead still making game freeze, so I closed app on ps5. Got a penalty lol.

I've been playing him and he's fun, but I would say he is the weakest Killer right now and I play Trapper and Plague. Then again, I haven't been playing add-ons with him because he keeps crashing the game. Without add-ons, he's definitely the weakest though.
Just lik demo, when they added pallet break to shred. Some add ons should just be in the base kit for pinhead and rework the addons

And i bet this is how the majority are playing him lol. They just seem to think killers should turn up and stomp.
I enjoy Pinhead, im usually getting 4k's every match and having so much fun with his chains round the killer shack and through buildings. Even managed to get some chains on someone from the basement who i knew was stood outside. He was just waiting there and didnt expect it. When people learn his power correctly, people wont be crying so much about him. He does need a few buffs though, he is by no means a strong killer. He just requires some thought and skill right now.
Due to mmr, he's new so he'll be at a low mmr till people climb. Pinhead just dropped so pinhead mmr is low.

This is what happened:
- You played a lot of nurse, who is a strong killer and newer players/midranks (what silver IV previously would have been aka rank 12) are not so familiar with her.
- You seemed to be sucessful before = higher MMR
- You got more stronger opponents than before because of 2.
- You have to sweat a lot more.
I am currently Gold I and I have to sweat insanely on my main (more than before). But I think it will settle itself soon.
Yup, the point is to reduce ez sweeps
-
Sometimes you need the slow of a chain to catch a survivor but it hits your back and the survivor gets to make it
-
Is swf considered with mmr? Teams do better so I reckon teams and such will push up to higher mmr. So as people climb mmr, will they be more likely to play with teams? Not sure
-
The long lobby time as killers sucks. I was rank 1 killer and survivor, idk how that is in mmr or what mmr I'm in. But weight times for killer is ten plus minutes. Survivor it's much lower.

I do play killer. I play both sides. I havent played survivor in a while as i've been playing mostly killer...
I dont tunnel. And the deactivations on DS means someone literally cant do anything to progress the game and keep DS active. I dont think anyone should be okay with preventing someone from not playing the game - regardless of what side that person plays.
Sometimes you just find the same survivor again later, not tunneling. High ranks, slugging someone and looking for someone if you don't have the capacity to down quickly or find people fast, or both, is a death sentence as that survivor gets picked back up and works on a gen. Killers have a lot to deal with. Tunnelling sucks but this game is 4v1, if 2 escapes it's kind of a tie. Maybe if ds procs a second time it's timer is halved so killer doesn't get punished for an endgame pick up where the survivor goes out no matter what l

The reason I'd argue they should go easy is because it can literally become impossible to work on the box. You just get stuck holding it forever. So, gameplay essentially stops for that survivor and the killer also doesn't have the opportunity to teleport or start a chain hunt on anyone else unless he can find you.
I was also thinking, what it holding the box pauses it for you, but not for the other survivors and you can't do a gen? That makes it so you can do the box but also have some slowdown.

Old Freddy was bad because of 3 things.
1 - He had no chase tool. Sure you could do some fancy stuff with the dream transition but other than that, playing Freddy didn't felt powerful at all. However, while breaking off from chases was incredibly beneficial, specifically for him, at the time, you didn't feel strong for doing it. Put him against good survivors, his many little flaws shine through his few massive benefits.
2 - Limited counter-play. There was no variation in how survivors could counter Freddy meaning every match was practically the same against them. If he found you loop, don't try to stealth because of his inbuilt aura reading when you're asleep and invisibility while you are awake. It made him predictable at best, boring at his worse.
3 - Limited vision of the license. You could do so much more for Freddy since his entire gimmick is to be a god-like being in the dream world. This rework brings him more true to his movie counter-part (The blood puddles, generators spewing blood, etc.)
I'm one of the old Freddy mains. I liked him before when he was weak. But this rework... This rework is amazing and surpassed every expectation I had.
Word, freddy would get looped to death, lower rank survivors would try to hide. More competitive survivors didn't care, would loop you and an ally would get a free save with borrowed time, and people could block noed if he had it. There was too much counterplay against freddy.
