I just had a match were I do what the Dev's said to do. Try different build and experiment. Only thing is I guess I've been getting unlucky with the matchmaking. I mean SWF after SWF. Who just rush generator's and teabag. So after I got one down and heard 3 gens pop. I left her and Just waited for the last 2 to go. At that point I didn't even wanna try it's preety much GG unless I Camp and slug and play dirty. Not my playstyle so if they wanna rush gen's so be it. I opened the exit gates and there it is. No one popped but I de-piped. I'd rather have it that way then me try after 3 gen's pop. And barley get 2 kills by playing dirty and stuff.
How do you know they were SWF and you just didn't make various misplays?
I've been accused of being in a SWF with all 4 people being in solo queue. It's not an excuse for your failure you can just fall back on whenever you need an ego boost.

A skilled base ranking system is needed in this game. In the past I've supported that one be created. Implenting it is going to be a challenge and they will undoubtedly mess it up but is the direction they need to go.
I mean they already tried that with the emblem system.
This would have to be the emblem system on crack, accounting for EVERY little possible play that could be made that would give a big impact in the match.

I'm having fun on both roles. (solo queue red ranks as well). Queue times seem faster after the ruin nerf for some reason, at least for me.

Ruin now a luck hex pretty much, hoping the hex doesn't die quickly
Oni is better than before
Doctor is amazing, only if the FPS was too
Balanced landing was nerfed, but is still really good
Ruin has always been a luck perk because it's a hex lol.

Just remove that hooked survivor hit box, god it's annoying when a survivor comes running recklessly, and unsafely saving someone. You swing for them, and the aim-assist is just like "Yeah i'ma just 90 degree you into the hooked survivor, or ignore the savior entirely". It's like Killer's shouldn't punish survivors for making bad plays anymore.
I mean the slab of meat is there.
They said they wanted to keep the hooked person's hitbox active on purpose I believe.

In regards to the growth, again if you wanna be a numbers person check WoW subscriptions numbers around the period I described. Numbers were growing despite competition coming out so people claimed WoW was better than ever... til about 6 kJ this later when the decline started because of poor decision making.
The number of things BHVR has done to the players, and I’m not talking anything specific to either side like Killer buffs or nerfs or survivor perk nerfs, just the whole game player base is growing. There will be a final straw that starts the decline, I fear it’s coming sooner rather than later, and again unlike some other games DBD does not have a big enough playerbase to absorb any significant decljne. The remaining player base may not be able to keep the game alive long enough to right the shop by that point.
Think I’m over dramatic if you want but I’ve seen it happen before and I havw seen these same discussions from both sides at that time. If we don’t learn from history, yada yada
I mean there's more MMORPGs out there. DBD has no direct competition for players to pivot to. So if you want an online asymmetrical experience, you will have to deal with the bs or just not play the genre entirely.

Could just run in the first place or wait in the first place. SC there is just flashy

So you see no issue with winning 20 games in a row at rank 1? Instead your conclusion is just to nerf the perk that prevents that outcome from being the norm? If DS needs a nerf, then maybe new Doc does as well? 😮

Mori's and insta heals are completely different.
To get a mori, the killer had to earn the ability to do it. They had to chase, down and hook someone. Possibly losing 2-3 generators in the process depending.
The old instaheal...what did the survivor do to earn it's functionality? Drop a pallet in a chase, and tap the spacebar? OOOOOOOOO
Mori's literally have more impact by straight up destroying the pace of the normal game. It can become a 3v1 very quickly with a shameless tunnel mori off of first hook. Very skillful to wait for BL 1 and hit the survivor, I know.
-
@ScottJund These were pretty much my thoughts exactly. I mean, I'm down to try it since clearly ranks don't work, but the expectations are VERY low. It would have to somehow be 10x better than the current emblem system, accounting for very minuscule things that can have a big impact.
I could see them being able to add in a few things such as noting that a killer whiffed while you're being chased, etc but overall there's a lot that I fear won't be accounted for.

No mither if they give me 2x points

If the DS skillcheck is a shaky one in the corner, it won't take you off the killer's shoulder when you hit it.
If it's normal, it'll still go off.

Run unbreakable. Recover, so your teammate can get you up. If you were slugged off the hook and the killer went and chased someone else, you were not tunneled. You were slugged.
If only every teammate you had was actually competent. This only works in SWF and in select cases in solo queue.
-
Nice bait

Did I get a lot of points?
I won. (At the end of the day, that's the only thing that will impact me in the game, so there's no point in thinking about it in any other way imo)

@Peanits said:
Not sure if you skipped to the end, but matchmaking and ranking are both being completely changed. Yes, ranks will be hidden at some point, but only because they are not going to be used for matchmaking. Instead, we'll be using a different method to track skill (independent of emblems) and matching you based on that.
We should be allowed to see the ratings then, since rank won't matter and rating will.
-
@Peanits said:
Batch matchmaking and skill ratings are two different things.
The batch matchmaking takes a group of people (let's say, 100 killers and 400 survivors) and goes, "What are the best matches I can make with these people?" It compares their skill ratings and makes the fairest matches it can.
You'll know if it's working because you should win about half your matches. The end result should be an average of two kills or so.
Unless you're switching something with the survivor emblem, we'll continue to win over 50% by a large margin (even if we die).
-
@NMCKE said:
Ebony Mori needs a nerf, there's no debating that it should remain the same when, by mathematics, the killer can skip 1/3 of their objective.
The same applies to keys, they can allow survivors to skip their first and second objective by immediately escaping via the hatch.
However, they both need to be nerf simultaneously, not independently just so both sides are given fair treatment. 😁
I personally equated Mori's to insta heals, which are no longer a thing.

in that case, why not just make them basekit?
i wont waste 7k points on them then - and they wouldnt change anything gameplay wise anyway
Because late game plays with people on deathhook can still be made. But if you bring a Mori, that person is at least guarantied dead. No flashlight save on death hook, DS, etc will cuck you. They are dead.

Been using deerstalker because of this lol

My point being is that someone who misses 5-6 he skill checks will have an identical effect and stall the game longer
My point is I don't tho. This ruin was more effective because despite my ability to power through old ruin, it got 200% regressed into nothing when I got back to it.
-
@Omans said:

No one is capable of hitting 100 percent great skill check all the time. The times you missed great checks with old ruin, especially early game were much more valuable than most situations for new ruin.
No one looks for new ruin, too. What's the point? Just do the Gen. Survivor skill floor is at an all time low, and it's so disappointing.
With old ruin, even if it was destroyed early, it most likely caused a few skill check regressions.
I guess I'm sorry I can hit my skillchecks?
New ruin cost me the entire gen in the Thompson house. Pushing survivors off of almost done gens is key to using it effectively while you can.

Hello it me baby killer.
Being more specific, I'm currently rank 14 killer and rank 7 survivor. I will preface this with I don't have a problem with ranks being hidden before a match. I will definitely say however, that it feels like them being hidden is a band aid for when match making doesn't do its job properly. cough.
I know I'm not the only one getting rainbow match ups in games, or getting players way out of your league whether it is in your favor or not. The question is, how does that make you feel after the game? If you win as killer and turns out they are 9 ranks below you, does it make you feel different than if the game played out exactly the same but they were higher ranks? For survivors, do you feel like your escapes aren't as valid if you were up against a rank 20 as a rank 7? Lets taco bout it.
Did I get a lot of points?
yes: idc
no: fk bhvr and their poopy match making

A rare case where new ruin did something, since you hit your greats it did not stop you from doing the gen either did it?
At that point I just had to go to a different gen since all the progress was gone. It costed me more time than if old ruin affected it, effectively making us have to do a 6th gen. Killer had a much longer game than usual.

I don't think it is that good tbh.
What if the killer just kicked that gen with old ruin?
It would have regressed 50% slower, I would've came back to a gen that still had half progress, and I would've finished it since I can hit my greats.

Killers are trying to micromanage a lot. They're like the Dungeon Keepers of this game. Pressuring gens. Juggling four survivors. Nurse having to keep an eye on her power bar in the middle of a chase. Myers trying to stalk and chase and not pop EW3 too early. Yeah, killers have a lot on their plate. Gets even worse when there are survivors dressed similarly.
It's not like survivors even pay attention to who's dead on hook half the time. When I play survivor, I can keep track of who's been hooked and who's DoH usually because in general I have to keep track of a lot less stuff than when I play killer. As killer, I try, but it's not always possible, and when there's a lot going on (like hooking 2 other survivors) then yeah, I'm not going to be counting 60 seconds off in my head.
You don't really have to count to 60. Just if you down someone again in quick succession, it would benefit you to wait a bit. Check on your hooked survs or something so at least all your pressure isn't lost.

I don't disagree with that, but IMO it isn't an excuse to not go with the change to DS that OP is discussing.
If that change goes through, I'd literally only be able to enjoy matches in SWF. I'd just get farmed into oblivion in solo queue, and believe it or not, it's not that fun.

A generator that is at 99.99% takes 320 seconds to regress a generator with ruin fully upgraded takes about 100 seconds to fully regress. If you were gone for almost 2 minutes as is then it would have lost a third of its progress already anyway.
1/3 of the progress being lost is less than ALL of it.

It doesn't take 30 seconds for someone to heal you.

You can't just make other people competent.

Not for each individual survivor it doesn't. And it has a cooldown.
I mean is it that much to ask for people to track who gets unhooked? I don't have a problem with it. Only time I'll take a DS is when I'm winning the game and want more points.
-
@TAG said:

Sounds like the changes needed go beyond DS, then.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1039885#Comment_1039885
Again, what stops the unhooked from being healed in the meantime?
I mean I don't think anything can be changed that would do a better job than what DS is doing right now.
Unhooked being healed is if someone decides to show up. Lots of immersed solo survs will just not do it.

And if the killer is able to pressure survivors off those gens?
For the kinds of players that allowed a survivor to loop them for 2 minutes then yeah its worthless.
For protecting gens on the far edges of the map then yeah its likely going to do little
For controlling the most strategic gens on the map though near the centre? Or for killers who are able to keep all survivors busy? Its arguably far more powerful.
Had a gen 90'd at Thompson house and got interrupted and hooked. By the time I came back, it was back to 0. I was hitting all my greats, so old ruin wouldn't have done anything, but this new ruin actually helped the killer. We essentially had to do 6 gens.
-
@TragicSolitude said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1039870#Comment_1039870
Yeah, if I've hooked two other people, it's pretty reasonable to think 60 seconds have passed. Nothing like looking back later and finding out that you got DS'd at 59 seconds. It's not like I don't usually slug if the recently unhooked comes running at me, but after hooking two other survivors you don't even necessarily remember they were hooked.
It's not like there's some timer on each survivor showing how many seconds have passed since they were unhooked. Survivors get nice little timers showing them when Haunted Ground or MYC or Ghostface's One-Hit-Down are up. Killers don't get that. Unless we've got four stopwatches in front of us, we're kind of guessing.
Make your choice is a built in timer if you need it.
