With Blue Isle and Troy Wagner having expressed interest in becoming partners to collaborate with BHVR on DBD and the growing requests I've seen for Slender/Marble Hornets in the past couple years, it sucks the momentum The Operator/Slenderman was gaining is muddied by some whiner on Twitter.
Also, Shane's coat, hair, and voicelines are already sweet inclusions. He's a unique new survivor and I love and welcome the devs trying to give us new ideas and characters from different parts of the world. It's one of the oldest and consistently praised parts of Dead By Daylight's world.
-
"He has a fun factor but that's it."
Is being fun not the most important thing out of a new inclusion to you?
Are you genuinely sitting there thinking "this next killer BETTER be Nurse/Blight tier" else the 10th anniversary is ruined?
This is a video game man. Being fun, balanced, and thematic was all Jason needed to be.
-
I don't really have a problem with the content in Terrifier, moreso that I just don't really enjoy watching the movies. They gross and bum me out, and not in the fun way other horror media like Saw does.
That said, Art is a pretty cool character in terms of power potential and I like his design (Needles from Fear & Hunger 2 gives me a strange attachment). In the context of DBD, I welcome his inclusion as a representative of Horrors more extreme side, even if his films aren't to my taste.
The roster feels complete to me now that all the classic slashers have joined among so many others. If the Entity wants Art, let him play.
-
It's a bad look to me to be so openly anti Ai but then to partner and hand the DBD ip out to people who just don't care and will use it, and then to promote that in the big 10th anniversary stream.
The mixed signals are bad vibes, and I'd rather BHVR tell Ice Nine Kills to remove it or cut the video.

>Vecna doesn't put you to sleep

>his projectile and teleport function entirely different from Freddy
yes, old freddy literally didn't have anything. It would be difficult to make a ability that functions like nothingness.
>clock interectables weren't even apart of old Freddy's kit
Yeah i kinda forgot about it, guess he would be way to weak if survivors could wake up with clocks. ST Vecna actually has an ability unlike old Freddy so to balance it a bit they added clocks from reworked freddy kit.>"Invisibility was pointless" and "m1 is boring" are not reasons Vecna is
literally Freddy, they're reasons you don't like old Freddy. Are you going to seriously, like SERIOUSLY, suggest, that just m1, JUST M1, is a lot of fun and interesting concept? If you are, sure, who i am to argue with you, but that would be a take of all time.
i will ignore your "comparisons" because you can say this about most killers, devs are constantly recycle things, yes. Yet in complexity, ST Vecna functions insanely similarily, both thematically and power design wise, and i am 99% sure if they were to make Freddy today, we would just get ST Vecna.
he literally does, thats what his ability is doing
Shooting Meg twice with nebulous red energy puts her and her entire team to sleep? And they don't have the sleep status effect or any seeming reference to the Dream World?
Not saying I don't believe that's what Vecna is doing in lore, but c'mon, these aren't even close to the same execution in game.
yes, old freddy literally didn't have anything. It would be difficult to make a ability that functions like nothingness.
Old Freddy had Wallhacks and Slowdown, two abilities entirely missing from New Vecna.
Are you going to seriously, like SERIOUSLY, suggest, that just m1, JUST M1, is a lot of fun and interesting concept? If you are, sure, who i am to argue with you, but that would be a take of all time.
I said "Invisibility was pointless" and "m1 is boring" are not reasons Vecna is literally Freddy, they're reasons you don't like Old Freddy, and you responded with "you think only m1 is FUN?!"
No mate, not what I said. I said that you not liking two aspects of Old Freddy doesn't make him literally Vecna.
i will ignore your "comparisons" because you can say this about most killers,
…Okay? You're the one currently calling Vecna literally Freddy because he has the generalist ability to turn invisible (which isn't even what he's doing but whatever), so I fail to see how Wraith, a character entering the Spirit world (right on top of/connected to the Dream World in lore) to turn invisible isn't literally Freddy.

Filter? You can use reshade or Nvidia for filters, I am not talking about that. Person was specifically talking about old freddy ability and not just filters like op
Ability design is obviously inspired by old freddy. ST Vecna needs to put survivors to "sleep" before being able to injure them. Survivors can use special interaction items to get out of "sleep". Difference being Freddy's was individual for every survivor, ST Vecna's is universal.
Also instead of being insanely boring m1 without any abilities he has strong m2, only killer ability in the same you can spam making unique gameplay.
"Invisibility" was pointless, yeah it was funny sight to see survivor Freddy is holding flying in the sky, but thats it. Also ST Vecna also has invisibility mode which is his ctrl.
Except Vecna doesn't put you to sleep, his projectile and teleport function are entirely different from Freddy, and the clock interactables weren't even apart of Old Freddy's kit that we currently are talking about.
If needing to hit someone with your power and then finding an interactable makes you literally Freddy, Nemesis and Krasue are both literally Freddy too.
"Invisibility was pointless" and "m1 is boring" are not reasons Vecna is literally Freddy, they're reasons you don't like old Freddy. People liked that old Freddy was incorporeal in the real world and wanted the devs to try making it work. Vecna's "invisibility mode" as you put it, functions literally nothing like Old Freddy, unless ig Wraith is also literally Old Freddy.

Old Freddy was literally invisible before he lulled you to sleep. Vecna tinting the screen red is really not comparable.

I have mixed feelings on it. Alot of times that id use the old sleep beam, I felt completely helpless as I had to watch them finish opening an exit gate, cleansing a totem or popping a gen. If they had the incapacitated status during the transition time, would help alleviate alot.
I don't think the incapacitated status effect even existed at the time, shame since it would've plugged one of Freddy's biggest pain points. If he had a secondary ability of some sort (perhaps even his current version of blood snare and teleporting), he'd have had much more bite as a killer and might've avoided getting like 4 major power reworks.
-
Plague should get unique music. Not really a reason for her in particular to still have the default tune, it feels out of place for her character.
Bubba and Pig could hopefully be renegotiated for fitting music tracks in the event of a revisiting to each licence. Freddy is probably off the table.
Trapper and I'd say Wraith are fine with the default theme as is, since it was built for them.
Huntress is already half there with the lullaby. Her being the secondary mascot of DBD and all, it's strange but I guess fitting that she uses the default score. It'd be pretty hype to get unique music eventually.
It's weird to have stopped making new music for old characters when there were only like 1-4 killers that need it max.

now that the dust has settled do you still think jason is not a springtrap clone?
As a Springtrap main whose spent a fair amount of time getting used to Jason on the PTB? No, I don't think the Slasher is a clone of the Animatronic.
Afton's axe recall mechanic compared to Jason needing to reload at scrap heaps/hooks gives the two a very different dynamic in how to lead chases, especially since Jason's ability to be 115% is on a timer after teleporting compared to Springtrap speeding up and down with the axe throw. Springtrap's axe arc vs Jason's spear arc are noticeably distinct, with Jason still having about as much in common with Deathslinger as he does Afton.
Additionally, the two's teleporting abilities have nothing in common. Jason is much closer to Spirit or Dracula, and Springtrap is closer to Xenomorph. There really is nothing to compare between them here beyond 'stealthyish teleport'
-
The last licenced survey BHVR sent out still had a second saw chapter on it, so it seems that even while this game would've presumably been in active development BHVR is capable of negotiating for more content with the Saw licence holders.
I hope we do get Kramer eventually, before we lose Tobin.

Uhm pennywise has nothing to do with blinking or eyes, I guess its a teaser for SCP-173 killer "The Sculpture"
SCP is licenced under creative commons and needs everything related to it to be licenced and available to the public under CC, including the code the game runs on. A DBD Collab is unfortunately impossible for this reason, though I would absolutely have loved to see an SCP chapter.
Personally, the upkeep of woodland imagery and allusion to blinking feels tied more to Slenderman than any other licence, though it also feels like this could be teasing something original.
-
DBD is so close to being the best Springtrap has looked, but the darker chest patch being missing is a massive personal gripe I have with his design and just sorta reeks of 2015 SFM model (which I mean I can roll with that but c'mon)
The mori should have adapted the idea of how Springlocks were implied to work in the games rather than just giving him a shrendo from the films.
Golden Freddy, the Puppet, Baby, and Foxy are just missing??? What we have is cool but is there a reason like half the core cast is just not here? It isn't for a sequel chapter cause the devs already mentioned they'd want to adapt the Mimic and Pizzaplex for some reason. Mike is the only character whose absence is completely understandable, though still disappointing.
The whole weapon debacle for Afton could've been solved with cosmetics like Jason or Billy. I hate that they handled the discourse by forcing players to use both the knife and axe.
Certain aspects of the chapter, especially the map, give me the impression this was a chapter made for FNaF fans and not by FNaF fans (which was to be expected but still disappointing). There's some cool events like the heads in parts and service following you and the animatronics on the main stage bursting to life for a moment, but others like retreading the Jonesy cameo with the Cupcake and the endo jumpscare just come off as lazy.
Why isn't there a secret backroom where Afton stuffed the kids? Why are all the arcade cabinets reused assets rather than any of the slew of memorable Fnaf minigames? Why does William not reference his kids in literally any of his voicelines or add-ons? Just stacking missed opportunities.

Genuinely almost never play Afton without it. The amount of 4 man escapes that became a 3 man because the squad wanted to stay behind and tbag has supplied me with more schadenfreude than any other killer.

We haven't seen the payoff to the in engine cabin screenshot that Jason was revealed with or Mcote teasing a map, the new survivor hasn't been shown off aside from perks, the event doesn't start for another few weeks.
This month is the anniversary, last month was the warmup.

Looking forward to what seems to be our new anniversary event! The invitation Jason and the new Survivor received is definitely part of this somehow, though from the gameplay side of things that obviously doesn't tell us much.

Obvious sock puppeting aside, this is a pretty low way of throwing back what amounts to "Nuh uh," just wrapped up in morally sanctimonious wording.
Don't tell people to work on themselves when you clearly just want to say something that gets under their skin. It's two-faced and insincere.

is Jason 4.4 or 4.6?
Jason is 4.4 but speeds up extremely fast in his Omnipresent Evil stance and gets 5% haste upon exiting it for 25 seconds.
He is 110%, but his power design leans it into being less so his base movespeed and moreso a punishment for Slashers whose chases are taking too long and not demanifesting.

Also lowkey poking the bear is fun
…wouldn't the guy who insulted you be the one who's poking the bear? This feels more like fish taking the bait situation than anything else.
-
The names that would have the largest impact in my opinion are Predator, Art The Clown, Isaac Clarke, Sam and Dean, Mulder and Scully, and Slenderman.
IT would be 1# but is, as we all know, the only license currently said to be off the table (aside from ig Postal and Cry of Fear)
I'd love to see Project W/ST pt 2 Sequel chapters for Resident Evil, Silent Hill, FNaF, Saw, and Castlevania. They all have plenty more iconic characters and locations to include in the game.
Meanwhile I'd love to see All Kill Comeback style reruns of Alien, Child's Play, Walking Dead, and Halloween and Hellraiser if they got relicensed. Give us new survivors and polish up the killers/maps + new ones if there isn't already one.
My pie in the sky licences after getting Springtrap and Jason would be a From or Fear & Hunger Chapter. If either of these happened, I'd kinda lose it ngl.
On top of what everyone else is suggesting, DBD still has practically limitless options to choose from. The Entity's realm isn't a waking nightmare, it's a licencing nightmare.
-
It's weird cause the Cabin that they revealed Jason with had a screenshot clearly rendered in the game engine, implying it has something to do in game we didn't see in the PTB?
The man himself Mathieu Mcote was very direct when asked about a Crystal Lake map and (paraphrasing) said the 10th anniversary has surprises he can't talk about.
I don't wanna get my hopes up, but my hopes are up. Give us the lake!
-
I get a little scared seeing an Onryo in the wild, since I don't encounter her often enough to get used to the match up, and their mains tend to be running odd builds I can never guess until the results screen in my experience.
She's one of the harder killers to play, so I both respect and fear whenever a good Sadako with Reiko's Watch disappears.

I know absolute 0 about slenderman or the operator and have no idea where to start. Is it a movie thing? Games? A tv show? Novels? Comics?
Paragraph incoming.
It's a YouTube WebSeries running from 2009-2014 based off the original photo and creepypasta from the something Awful Forums.
Marble Hornets was so influential that it overwrote Slenders original behavior and powers into what people now know (teleporting, ruining electronics, sickness, etc.) MH also has by far the best survivor options out of our media choices in Alex, Jay, Hoody, and Masky (silly names for the last two but they have their fans)
Notably however, the Operator is technically not Slenderman. The two are virtually identical and are culturally seen as the same character, but they are legally distinct (the Operator does not have Tentacles)
There was a game released in 2012 by Blue Isle studios that popularized the Slenderman name worldwide, that being "Slender: The Eight Pages." For being the game that shot Slender into the mainstream, it's basically just a Marble Hornets fan game. There is a sequel to the game called "Slender: the Arrival," which is probably the most popular adaption of Slenderman period, and whilst it is a separate licence from Marble Hornets, it was written by the shows core writers.
The main reason people argue against Marble Hornets is because they say the Operator is a bootleg version of Slenderman, but it's honestly more fair to say everything Slenderman is known for in pop culture is from or is ripping off Marble Hornets.
Just my 2¢, but I agree wholeheartedly that Marble Hornets is the route to go down if the Entity wants to bark up that tree.

I started to wonder if it would be possible to get a license to use Savini Jason.
It's a skin created for the FT13 game specifically, so maybe it could come into the game as a cosmetic?
They should in theory own the rights to the design since it was commissioned for a Horror Inc release and isn't tied to a film distributed/created by Warner Bros or Paramount.
Assuming alterations would be made to resemble the Jason Universe Design, a Hellish Jason skin seems very in the cards, though I dunno how well a pitchfork would work with his current M1 animations. Might lead to a Michael situation where he stabs you with a pipe.

We can't do balance passes on major releases. We can't do balance passes around events. We can't do balance passes because we're working on major releases.
Only two killers have been touched since November, and one of them just had some numbers tweaked.
Was Diminishing Returns really an eight month effort? That's the entirety of the perk changes for the first seven months of 2026, if not longer?
Exactly the problem. If they want to add new content and not change anything else to ensure the game doesn't break, that's great! But it feels like for the past 5-6 patches we've been getting literal table scraps because "they're holding the big changes off for later."
If we're getting just Jason and the new Survivor, I'm expecting, not hoping for something big this mid chapter. It's the expectation that arises when we haven't had a full Killer, Map, and Survivor Chapter since DnD.
-
Deputies Badge is the exact same idea as Lootbag on Springtrap, I don't see how it's fine on him but not Jason.
Edit: nvm I'm thinking of Burnt Fuse
-
Every single one of Jason's add-ons is a reference to a kill or character from the movies, it's much more implicitly referential than a character like Springtrap getting table scraps and aesthetic pieces from his source material for add-ons.
As for the skins, the devs clearly did base a fair amount of them in Jason's movie history, even if the skins are original designs.
Backwoods Terror is 90% original but gives Jason hair as seen in Friday Part 2, just this time with the Hockey mask instead of baghead.
Depths of Despair is pretty close to his Part 7 design, just leaning less into Gore and more into Jason being taken over by nature.
Death Forsaken blends his FvJ coat with part 7's exposed spinal column and 6's gloves.
It's not literally recreated from the films like F13 the game, but that was always going to be a losing battle wasn't it? It makes sense DBD went moreso the route did Mortal Kombat X did and nabbed Jason on his own.
-
@Zakon05 said:
We might not get the Jason X movie skin specifically
But we might get their own interpretation of a sci-fi Jason skin.
Kind of like how the undead skin he currently has is a clear nod to how he looked in Part VI, VII, and VIII.
The Death Forsaken outfit with the shovel feels based off FvJ as well with the coat, using Part 7's exposed spine and gloves like 6.
Depths of Despair feels very much like an alternate take on Part 7. Backwoods Terror is mostly original but calls back to Part 2 by adding hair.
With the ability to mix and match and Jason being one of the lucky killers to get cosmetics entirely swapping out his weapons, I'm pretty satisfied with this for the most part. Seems the devs are just as big a fan of Jason's part 7 design as I am, and we'll probably see a higher amount of skins for him because of this direction too.
-
I wish they'd change the latch on bite to only work on injured survivors rather than in general, in order to remove the free injury Kaneki gets and force Ghouls to learn how to effectively slide cancel.
The ability to bite survivors then exclusively becomes a means to power up, and Ghoul becomes entirely centered on mastering his unique form map traversal and how to use it in chase.
-
The 5% haste after teleporting combined with the spike gives Jason one of the strongest starts to a chase in the game, but he completely loses his momentum if he misses the shot and his haste runs out.
If there's a hook or pile nearby you can snag another spike from while following the survivor, you can keep things going and try for the down, otherwise I found it's best just to demanifest and try again with a new victim.
I'm not the biggest fan of Jason being a ranged killer, but the power is fun to face and use so far, so I'd say despite a fair amount of missed opportunities, this is a certified W.
-
No more than 1 or 2 for me. Sometimes the game feels too fast for a lot of killers to reasonably keep up, but I've played enough survivor to know how demoralizing and unfun 3+ slowdown perks end up being.

In BHVR's defense, this is probably because of Scott Cawthon having a specific vision for Springtrap.
A part of me is curious if they informed him that he accidentally created a carbon copy of a character they already had planned. 🤔
Either way, hopefully this opens the door for more Springtrap changes, because goodness gracious he needs some.
In BHVR's defense, this is probably because of Scott Cawthon having a specific vision for Springtrap.
I don't know where the idea came from that Scott Cawthon chose the axe and BHVR had no choice but to follow his vision.
It was mentioned Springtrap's finalized power was competing in development with one based more around FNaF lore, and the Axe tested better. BHVR was the one who would have reviewed the playtesting data and evaluated which power is more suited to DBD from a user experience standpoint, since they make the game.
All Cawthon would be doing is evaluating whether Springtrap's power is a good fit for Afton's character and the FNaF Ip, and approving BHVR move forward with the power concept they pitched. If he decided the axe was ill fitting, BHVR would have found a way to make whatever the other power was work.
Obviously Scott Cawthon personally approved every major decision that went into the FNAF Chapter we got and handled the writing, but BHVR didn't just sit back and let him design Springtrap for them. They would have been the ones to create and pitch the power, leaning on Scott's knowledge of FNAF for aspects like the visual and animation design of Afton and the Pizzeria, and making sure they got his stamp of approval on all creative decisions.
A part of me is curious if they informed him that he accidentally created a carbon copy of a character they already had planned.
I don't mean to come for you here, but this doesn't make sense. Each chapter starts development a year in advance, and FNAF was a year before F13. Scott would have approved Springtrap's final concept months before Jason would have entered early development.

He is literally springtrap 2.0
"X is killer is literally Y killer" as a shorthand to write off new releases is getting extremely old. When Springtrap walked in as a Bunny killer with a throwing axe, it was a given that people were going to make surface level Huntress comparisons.
Jason has literally nothing in common with Springtrap aside from "projectile that sticks in you" and "mobility tool" which I guess also makes these killers Deathslinger 3.0 and Wraith version 17 or something respectively.
-
I like the weapon pin mechanic a lot, as well as Jason ripping the spears from the environment. Having him come up out of nowhere and stick your teammate to a wall sounds like a great moment.
If the idea was to blend his adaptability and brutality together into a cohesive power, it works! Although yeah, this is a similar archetype to last year's anniversary, and power creeping a fair amount of the cast.
The Fog demanifesting form seems less like a secondary ability and more like another primary power. Getting a spirit/bat form esque stance swap on top of an already competent ranged power is a good way to ensure The Slasher doesn't fall below A tier.
Overall, Jason seems like a very high skill ceiling, high potential killer. I'm not the biggest fan of ranged powers, but I've gotten a fair amount of practice with Springtrap releasing, and I do like abilities like Dracula and Spirit, so I want to invest effort in learning how to play Jason when the PTB drops.
-
In a game with 41 killers, the average pickrate assuming a world where everyone is equally popular would be 2.44%. Killers being over that number means there must be others under that margin, especially since Blight and Ghoul are over thrice as popular as the mean%.
Springtrap being at 4.1%, it stands to reason he's more popular than a lot of the cast as of current. I don't really see how that can be labeled as forgotten inclusion.
-
I'm hoping for a rage mechanic and some ability to eat pallets like Bubba, Michael, or Nemesis. Then as a secondary power some stealth mechanic, since so many Friday the 13th movies are built around half the cast being killed while nobody is any the wiser.
The feeling that he could be anywhere, and when he does appear is brutally unstoppable is one of the core traits of Jason's behavior.

It's so lame. Why did Sean and Victor had a feud? Couldn't they just hug it out and kiss while making fat cash from this dope franchise that a lot of people love? Humans are complicated 🫤
The Jason Universe Collab basically is Horror Inc (Sean) and Victor Miller hugging it out and kissing, the difference is that before Miller got a slice of the pie Horror Inc and Newline had an understanding that covered the whole series, whereas what we have now has to ignore the name of the franchise and every movie after Part 8.
It's not the most ideal thing in the world, but I'm just glad Jason is back, and that he's found his way into the Fog.
-
Jason Universe is a collaboration between Horror Inc and Victor Miller, leaving out New Line Cinema from the dealings. This means that Jason goes to Hell, Jason X, Freddy V Jason, and the reboot are off the table, but everything in F13 parts 1-8 are.
Funny, the movies with Jason in the title are the ones excluded from the Jason Universe licensing deal, and the films named as parts of Friday the 13th series are included in it, despite being a collaboration between the two parties who DON'T own the F13 name and excludes the party that does. No wonder the rights for this series are such a headache.
Regardless, if 1-8 are on the table, wouldn't any characters and variants of Camp Crystal Lake be on the table for DBD?
-
If they had said "tune in for a 12 hour Livestream" and didn't say "it's better live" this would have had an entirely different reaction imo
People would've picked up immediately that this wasn't the standard DBD stream and started speculating about what was up, and the cabin would've immediately been a clue in that nothing was immediately happening rather than most people spending 20-40 minutes waiting for something then getting hit with sunk cost fallacy for their time.
I would have loved to watch this slowly unravel in a different context, instead it just ended up a kinda funny and pretty head scratching way to reveal one of the games most hype additions.
-
Well, I might've been a salty sap last night, but now that it's all said and done, HE'S COMING! The Hall of Fame of Horror indeed, Jason and the classic Slasher lineup is complete!
It is a bit said to see F13 still isn't using its own name, but at least the Jason Universe was shown off in a short film instead of just being a nebulous out of context redesign. My biggest hope is cosmetics serve us something more akin to the classic designs. Also, no Tommy is pretty sad, he'd have been a great and unique addition imo, especially to have alongside our other iconic survs, but knowing BHVR they probably tried their best for him.
This chapter is by default one of the most important in DbD history, here's hoping for a great 10th anniversary!

What is 'ARG'?
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4080153#Comment_4080153
Stephen King used to sell the rights from his short stories for a dollar bill. He didn't do it anymore due to administrative reasons. Alan Awake had a quote from him.
Yeah, I think it's going to be near impossible to get the license unless they somehow managed to negotiate with him.
Alternate Reality Game. It's just a label for things being present inuniverse that we in the real world need to figure out.
An example is something like a movie or show that has a scene with a website. If the creator of the media wanted, they could create a real world website to match the one in the movie/show. If there's a puzzle in the in the website that leads to secret details about the next movie/season, the website can be a considered an arg.
-
I'm still seeing a ton of licenced speculation, but the trailer definitely struck me as being an original release?
Kinda hope I'm wrong cause people are gonna be pissed if the 10th anniversary isn't a big name, especially since we already have a high profile original creation coming up in Chorus of Sin.
All I can think is, what the hell could that teaser have been promoting if it's licensed, and why the hell would BHVR make this an arg if it isn't?
