Same "pathetic" excuse survivor mains gave about the original Finisher Mori? Newer players don't remember that, but almost universally survivor mains hated it and killer mains loved it.

The only "issue" with "tunneling" and "slugging"is whinning survivor mains. Killers have real issues. With gen rushing, looping and pallet density. Do you see anything done about that? Why is everyone talking about "recovering from"? Why is everyone entitled to a comeback? How do killer recover from 1K/1gen left scenarios?
I mean, I agree sort of. But I do think that a killer going out of their way to turn the 4v1 into a 3v1 at five generators is a problem. It's not a common problem, and as I have said in other threads, when it happens in a game I am in, it happens to me, but beyond that is where I agree with you. If you touch a generator, I am no longer tunneling you. I say that as both a killer player and a survivor player.
-
Yea, I kind of agree, but I do see where they put it all as one idea and want to just wait to sort through the feedback of all of it and determine the best way to bring us the next version. Which WILL happen, have no doubt.
-
I am a P100 Pig Main and a P66 Jill Valentine Main (with many other survivors at 10 or more. I have actually spent more BP on Survivor side than I have Killer side, despite having a P100 Pig) and so I do play both sides, usually Killer when I am solo and survivor with friends. When I am playing survivor, if someone in our matches is being tunneled out, it's usually me. So I definitely think that they need to address when hard tunneling is happening, but at the same time I understand that taking advantage of my mistakes is NOT tunneling me. I don't know how, I am not a developer, but any anti-tunnel system needs to address when survivors are actually being tunneled, but not punish the killer for merely taking advantage of a survivor's mistakes, and as a Pig main I say that I should absolutely NOT be punished if a survivor gets off hook right before their trap timer expires, nor if they just fail to get it off early in the match. Especially with how Pigs traps are currently bugged anyway, there is zero excuse for not getting your trap off.

Most of the feedback supports the content in the test build.
Also the test build is for pc players only. Ignores everyone on console.
2 content creators (who are elevated for no reasons and are simply just other normal players in reality) plus a handful of killer mains have cried. That shouldn't hold more weight than the majority of comments supporting the changes.
No, there were a lot of players on both sides that did not like all the changes that were done. It wasn't just a few content creators.
Even I think PART of it was fine, but part of it was not.
As for there not being a public test build on console, that's true however that's on Sony and Microsoft due to the way they handle patches. Even Epic does not support "betas" like Steam does. Maybe someday Epic, Sony, and Microsoft will implement a way to support a public test build for games like DBD. But that time is not now, it can't be helped. -
So this post didn't age well. They just said they are going to not put any of this live, and work on refining it given our feedback.
As for there being issues with slugging and tunneling, yes. As for something needing to be done, yes. But this was not it. Many survivor streamers I know saw how this patch was problematic. -

I'll jump in here right away to try to reassure you, if any feature that's implemented changes kill rates drastically and in a negative manner (as you know we aim for approx 60% kill rate), we will make adjustments as necessary. These are QoL features, so focusing on game health and enjoyment, these are not balancing changes as such.
Okay, when I first heard you'd said this, I was like facepalming, HOWEVER now that I finally have been pointed to the entirety of your post, I feel a bit better, but with a caveat. This needs to hold true.
Please keep in mind, quality of life for the game requires both sides to feel good about it. I play killer when I am solo and survivor with friends (usually streamers that do open lobbies or my fellow secret society of Pig Mains) and if someone is going to be tunneled out of a match, it usually happens to me (in fact it did today funny enough.) That said, I think these changes don't need adjustments, they need to be scrapped. Seriously, even as someone who is regularly tunneled (and my idea of tunneling is way more lax on the killer than what you punish for here.) If I am working on a generator, the killer is not tunneling me, even if I was the last one hooked. But apparently now that's tunneling? No, its still not as far as I am concerned.
I will also add that if this patch goes through to live, I likely will stop playing killer. Whether I continue to play the game at all remains to be seen. I love this game, I really do. But these changes are not fun for killers, except the S-Tier killers that will just get better and easier with these changes. -

The blocked regression needs close examination, but the 25% repair boost is not a punishment, it's a reduced reward. You're still coming out miles ahead with that kill, just one mile less.
Thank you, now i think you are finally starting to understand where I am coming from. The bonuses to repair speed aren't the biggest problem I have, its them coupled with the hard no more regression penalty. As long as they get rid of that part, I am fine with the repair speed buff (not saying I like it, but I understand it and can work around it, even when I am playing Pig with zero gen regression perks, as I normally do.)

My big issue is that whichever side comes out stronger doesn't matter, it is the fundamental game concept that upsets me.
I don't share the sentiment that casual DBD is miserable, I wouldn't play the game if I did... but what casual is to me, is DBD feels like a horror game. I am afraid of the killer and trying to avoid them at all times, however at the same time I know I am also reliant on my teammates to survive, so I am also required to take chase. Striking this balance of when to hide and when to run is the main appeal to me, and more importantly, how to make the best of a bad situation...
From a thematic POV, when tunneling or slugging, the killer is using our altruism against us, our natural instinct is to empathise with and help one another... but in horror, that very sentiment can be and often is used against you; altruism often doesnt save you, opportunistic pragmatism does, which is precisely what DBD achieves by allowing players to do this. The fact these things are possible means they must be accounted for when making any decisions, and it all serves the main idea that the killer is a dangerous threat.
From a gameplay point of view, tunneling or slugging are tools in the killers arsenal to assist generating pressure. They are methods of mitigating the time loss incurred by the chase, all serving to ensure the killer poses an appropriate obstacle for the Survivors to overcome.
I won't argue that tunneling and slugging are aren't inherently too strong or weak, because in my opinion it fundamentally depends on the killer who is doing it as to how strong and effective it is, and I've seen vastly different results in effectiveness playing against various different killers, and of course vastly different results based on survivor behaviour in response to tunneling and slugging, and what perks each respective side has in play. The point is the threats of these things have to be accounted for and that is what fuels the horror element of teh game.
As simple example of what I mean, as a soloQ survivor I understand that if I am the only one not hooked yet, and everyone else is, I need to be taking chase from the killer... however I also understand that if no one else is on gens, someone needs to be; whatever time anyone buys doesn't mean anything if no one is on gens. If the killer is trying to tunnel a player out, my teammates may well be all bouncing around the hook for the unhook, that the killer is waiting for to go for their kill. Ideally it should be me going to unhook after as long as humanly possible for the trade... but I can't leave the gen if no one else is picking one up, and if my team unhook with 30s to spare and this survivor gets tunneled out, there is nothing I can do about it without making some God play or save. Me staying on the gen is making the best of a bad situation, where although I want to save my teammate, both for their sake and my own, I have to trust they have some ace up their sleeve or pull something out of the bag to somehow survive this. The pragmatic choice is to ignore your natural instinct and focus on trying to survive. This is the essence of horror, knowing that your choices to pick from aren't always good ones, but you've still got to make a choice.
What really upsets me is by trying to shoe horn a particular playstyle into play, my horror themed tag game no longer feels like a horror themed tag game... it just feels like what it is... just a tag game. In this same scenario in 9.2.0, I know the survivor off hook has BT for 30s, I know if they die I get a whole bunch of buffs while the killer gets a whole bunch of penalties. I know the killer can't slug, because if he does my teammate can crawl away and pick themselves up without any intervention or rrquirement from me to get involved at all. I don't have any difficult choices to make orchestrated by the poor decisions of my teammates or the insidious decisions of the killer trying to outwit me... the game has taken all those concerns away from me at base.
The Entity isn't this vague omnipotent being that dropped us all in a trial with the rules 'escape or die/kill or risk displeased me'; it now feels like a teacher on the bus to the park saying "OK class, here are the rules of the game, make sure you play nice and follow them, lets all have a fun time for everyone".
Maybe I'm just a weirdo.
All I can say is:

You're not getting it. It's not proof that that's the minimum skill required to pull it off.
Minimum skill or not, it's still punishing the killer for not ignoring them when survivors do something stupid. NO GAME SHOULD DO THIS. Otz's ability to still win has no bearing on this.
As I and others have said before. Most of this I am okay with. It's the PUNISHMENT parts at the end that I have a problem with, especially the no more regression or blocking part.
Even the 25% bonus to generator repair speed I could deal with (though that number might be a bit high) but again, it's the punishment for hooking the same survivor back to back rather than just letting them keep working on a generator while you go look for someone else. Yeah, you can slug them but aren't we supposed to not do that anymore? Make up your mind! -

But it's a huge leap to assume that, because Otz can do it, it's proven that ONLY Otz can do it.
Yes, because I said that. Can every player on the game in theory play any game on an E-Sports Championship level. Sure, and we might get through a patch without a Pig Nerf and all her bugs fixed But most of us are not out there winning hundreds of thousands of dollars a year playing video games and no game should expect us to play on that level and there are Pig bugs (sorry, features) that have been in the game since 2021, not to mention new ones.

But this video doesn't prove jack, though, does it?
Besides, if Otz can do it, why couldn't anyone else?
Because no game should be balanced around what the best players of the game are able to pull off. If you don't understand this, then… I don't know what to say that won't get me banned.
-
To all those saying "oh but he still won the game":
OF COURSE HE DID, HE IS OTZDARVA. He's one of the best players in the game.
They could make it so as soon as the killer gets 4 hooks in any combination, gen regression or blocking is no longer possible and Otzdarva would still win the majority of his games. But that would not be the experience for the majority of the playerbase. -

He doesn't have to "let the person finish the gen", there are options: he can slug if it's really that critical, or just hook. There's one gen left, so up until maybe a week ago when this was announced this was everyone telling us "you have to secure a kill because the game is over".
Given that he went with the hooking option and then won the game, this isn't really making your case that it's a problem. You seem upset that he didn't "win harder" here.
Whether or not he won isn't the point I care about. The point is simply that be it at 6 generators or 1 generator, the killer should not be punished for not doing something about a survivor that doesn't even bother to run from them.
The buffs to survivors? That's fine with me. It's the punishing the killer for not going out of their way that I have a problem with, and this is coming from someone who when i play survivor, if anyone in a match its getting tunneled out, it's me. My friends joke that its because I am a Jill Valentine main, all killers have Nemesis vision. STAAAAARS! -
@Scarlett1111 said:

Yet he won this game anyway. Killers are not meant to win every single game. All these changes do is make a 3v1 actually feasible for the survivors when someone is taken out at 4-5 gens.
Not the point. The point is that if a survivor is able to literally sit there doing a generator in your face, you should not be punished for not being like "Oh Hi. Yeah, I just hooked you so have fun on that generator, bestie!"

So I might have a small brain or something but I don't know why people are upset about it. The idea is just saying "hey don't be sweaty and try to spread hooks around" I have played both killer and survivor and I will say I have tunneled once or twice when I was having a bad day. But I don't understand why people are upset about it when basically it's just learn your not gonna get a 4k all the time and a 3k is still technically a win 1k or 0 is a lose and 2 is a tie. So I might be missing something in all this but I really don't understand why so many people are upset with it.
Check out this clip from Otz posted on Reddit. He is punished for not letting a survivor finish the last generator. By the new 'anti-tunnel' rules he should have just ignored a survivor on a generator.
What he did here was NOT tunneling by ay definition of the word, but now apparently it is.

If tunnelling is still the best answer, then what's the purpose of this patch?
The point isn't that it is best answer, but the fact that with all of the stacking preventions and punishments for killers that tunnel (which is IMO NOT merely hooking the same survivor back to back. If you go to the other side of the map and do a generator, then we meet up later, I am not tunneling you even if I haven't managed to hook someone else in the meantime but oh wait apparently I am tunneling you according to BHVR now) means that survivors will absolutely be able to abuse the F out of this. While I would never do so on live servers (I am a Killer main) I have many horrendous ideas of how to do so on the PTB for testing purposes.
You will be literally able to complete generators in the killer's face and they can't stop you. Slug you? You get right back up. Hook you again? They just hooked you back to back, they get punished. Actually kill you? Major punishment for the rest of the match (sure you are out of the game, but especially if you are with that dreaded 4 man SWF, that's fine… you're helping your friends even in death.) So, they just have to let you do the generator. -

The infinite thing is absolutely not the same. To go with your analogy, how about instead of removing the infinities like they did, instead after three full loops all the doors and windows were blocked1: So we're shifting the argument. It's no longer 'it's insane to punish people for doing the objective, that would never to happen to survivors', its 'this type of punishment for survivors doing the objective was fine, but the proposed issue is too severe'.
Which means we're back in boring balance discussion territory and everyone can put their pitchforks away.
2: To actually make the example comparable you'd need to add:
And as compensation when survivors leave a loop instead of three vaulting it they gain a haste boost.
What? No. You completely missed my point and then went off the rails. Your analogy was bad. Let's just leave it at that, as I don't have the spoons to try to better explain why.

I don’t wanna lose the option to punish bad, dumb, super greedy, brazen, miserable survivor plays… without being punished myself and just handing them a free ride. Not happening. Not in my lobbies. You can still punish bad plays.
Both sides make mistakes in games. Different mistakes have differing levels of penalties associated with them. I'm sure survivors thought it was great when killers made the mistake of chasing them into an infinite.
So yup, I’ll just stick to top killers running full meta. Straight tunnel at 5 gensYou still can, nothing is stopping you.
We’re gonna have sooo much fun, aren’t we?I mean you were tunneling before, and you're going to be tunneling now. You're apparently having fun, all the survivor experience can do from here is go up.
The infinite thing is absolutely not the same. To go with your analogy, how about instead of removing the infinities like they did, instead after three full loops all the doors and windows were blocked? Sure, the killer made a bad play, but now we need a game mechanic to help out the killer. That's what this anti-tunnel is doing.
Also, while I am a P100 Pig main on killer side, I am also a P65 Jill Valentine Main on Survivor. When someone in a match is tunneled, it's usually me. So I get how frustrating being tunneled is. I am still absolutely against these changes. -

Well, they don't count for kill rates either, which actually makes me realize something… The new Abandon feature, since it spawns a bot it seems it counts as a DC server side (even if the player isn't punished like an actual DC) so… that has to be skewing the kill/escape rates something terrible.

They could easily add a condition that kills only count for this mechanic if done because of mori or freshly hooked when on death hook. For all we know it already does that - it's not even out for testing yet.
Alternate killing methods don't entitle a killer to anything. No one is meant to completely ignore the hook mechanic and if you do in this new system it's still not the end of the world - the survivors still need to do gens and I doubt the buff is going to be massive enough to compensate for there being a whole person missing.
They could do a lot of things they haven't done. But when an entire part of a Killer's power relies on a way to get around hooking, yes that does entitle them to be able to do it without being unfairly punished for simply using their power.
Reminds me of when Killer Adepts used to be Emblem based instead of relying on just getting a 4K. There were certain killers, Leatherface being the worst, where you had to ignore your power completely or you would not get enough points to get your 4 Iridescent Emblems. Content Creator OhTofu did a series of him finally getting Killer Adepts, and most of them he got first video (up to two tries per video) but Bubba took him 4 videos (meaning 8 tries) before he finally got it, simply because he was being punished for using the chainsaw as intended. -

Until a survivor bringing a luck offering 'goes next" or you are playing a killer with an alternate killing method like Pig or Sadako and you end up getting punished for a death before you got a full 6 hooks.

I think even the "kids" are now old enough to be Survivors, so having Dustin, Will, Max, Lucas etc as Survivors would be an option either. They could make so much with Stranger Things.
I'd rather see Robin as a full survivor so she could have multiple outfits (unless they go through with their idea to allow that for Legendary) but as a Legendary could work as long as it was her Scoops Ahoy uniform.

Hopefully, they will release a statement on this to clarify what this skin is considered or where Haddie's eligibility lies. It's the only skin that they've pulled from their contests, bypassing community voting to add to the game.
They outright said why. They did not PULL the skin from the contest to bypass community voting, they were going to include it but due to the creator being dyslexic, they mistyped their email. BHVR could not contact them, the deadline of when they had to get the ball rolling past, so they had to pick another winner. But they kept trying to contact them, and finally with the community's help they got the right email. So, because it was then too late, they decided to license it because they knew the Haddie community needs that love.
Then on a side note, from what I understand, the Little Red and Big Bad Wolf skins were ones that the creator decided not to submit because they wanted to submit stuff for less represented characters, but they had posted them on Twitter and the community went crazy. SO that is why BHVR licensed them under the Artists of the Fog Collection. -

They count abandons as escapes so the kill rates are far lower than they are in reality. The stats on nightlight were always slightly lower than the official ones the devs release and it got worse when abandons were added. Also worth noting that the official stats website also counts abandons as escapes. So basically everyone is running around with an inflated escape rate if they use the abandon feature. How this wasn't fixed before they launched the site is beyond me. I personally don't understand the point of having stats when they aren't accurate in the slightest. It seems like Behavior's internal stats are the only ones that are actually accurate at this point. According to Mandy their internal stat tracking counts abandons as kills.
The thing is, many players who use Nightlight know how it figures things. Like It has an option for "Hatch" and "Hatch - Given" If you choose Hatch, then that counts as an escape. However, if you chose Hatch - Given it counts as a kill, because the idea is that you COULD have gotten the 4k (chose not to slug for the 4k, or carried last survivor to hatch) but did not it still counts. If you don't like this counting as a kill in the stats, then don't mark the hatch as given (even if it was)
Now, the main stats website definitely needs to be fixed because that's skewing our data (even if their internal data is correct, why do we not get the same data?) -

On the face of it, I am all for a target of 60% kill rate for killers. Make the game slightly killer sided so that it's clear killer is the power role.
My problem with it is how it's currently being accomplished.
If you check the stats on nightlightgg for a more nuanced look of kill rate statistics you'll see that the thing that contributes most to the 60 percent kill rate is a high rate of 4k's.
As a killer main who dabbles in survivor to do challenges my least favorite games as either side are the same. One side snowballs out of control so hard that the other side has no hope of a comeback. Not killing anyone as killer sucks, but I also dislike stomping so hard that it was hardly a game.
As survivor, watching no progress happen as the killer stacks hooks feels Sisyphean. But sitting on a gen and hardly getting to interact with the killer for the whole trial is also less than appealing.
Close games, 2ks or 3ks, are the sweet spots in my opinion, but looking at the stats 2k/3k games are an extremely small minority of games. In fact for most killers about half their games are 0ks or 4ks.
This is why I loved the second iteration of 2v8, because very rarely were games 8k or 0k. There were comeback mechanics and both sides could turn things around until the end. Games didn't snowball out of control early on like in 1v4 and as a result there were also far less leavers.
TLDR: I would rather get more 2k or 3k games while still maintaining the 60% kill rate, if possible. Shifting gameplay tendencies away from snowballs into more back and forth games that end somewhere in the middle.
Thing is, many (if not most) killer mains would disagree with you. Plus, like you said, it snowballs. That's just a fact, and one of the main reasons why many killers tunnel. 3v1 is just simply easier than 4v1. The only way I see to fix it is to make MMR less binary, but they likely will never do that. They are fine with their KILL vs. ESCAPE binary MMR.

So, yesterday I was trying to get my adepts of the new survivors, but in the three games where I could have had a chance to complete my challenge, the killers decided to disconnect when they realized they weren't going to be able to "win*" and we were about to open the gates. Three games where I tried hard to get the adept, and I couldn't get it just because the killer decided to disconnect. In the other matches I just died so that's understandable. But in the ones where I tried my best, I didn't get a chance because a player decided to dc. I don't think it's fair that all my effort to complete a challenge drained just because the killer decided to disconnect. I admit this has never happened to me before; it's the first time I've experienced it. But 3 times? 3 lost opportunities for me to complete my challenge? If the killer decides to dc, that's their problem, but I shouldn't be blame for their decision.
I don't know if the same thing happens to killers (it's never happened to me for my challenges), but if it does, it's not fair either. I think devs should do something about it.
*For me, winning is earning points, regardless of whether I kill everyone or escape, but it seems that the majority of the community considers "winning" to mean getting 4 kills or escaping.
You used to get it when the killer disconnected (or if all 4 survivors disconnected because they didn't have survivor bots yet) but it was changed some time ago. I do agree it sucks. especially now that they have survivor bots that means that the killer can still get their adept now.

- No, even if they could get the license for Prototype, it wouldn't be the next chapter. It takes time to create things.
- There is no reason they couldn't have two versions of Vecna. His name may be Vecna, but he's The Lich. The Stranger Things Vecna is named by the kids after the D&D Vecna, but he's not a lich. He's something else that they would come up with an name for the game.

Hmm, yeah sounds like this is an issue that needs to be looked at with the new changes. Sadly I don't think there is anything you can do unless BHVR fixes it.

This is as close as we will ever get for one simple reason. With the existence of SWF (even if not every match is a SWF) it's extremely easy for at least one if not all of the survivors to know exactly what the others are doing and the killer would be known immediately to be the killer and not actually Meg.

Like I feel like no regression at all is a bit too far as well as welp the item is just toasted now. Removing charges based on how many times it’s dropped seems fair enough.
I joined the game in 2021 so with the current version of Franklin's but that original version does seem much better a change for the current meta…. though with the changes they would need to figure out some way to make it remove a percentage of charges due to medkits and toolkits still having massive charges. So that's likely why they are just removing the charge loss entirely.

on that one a lot, especially around PTB's where changes are suggested - my team and myself have some long conversations with Design to give them the feedback and look at what changes are needed.
We also monitor what players are saying about specific perks, killers etc and give that feedback and the suggestions that are made around those things.
Yea, and we notorious Pig mains known as the Society of Swine also got some changes to Pig done between a PTB and Live. Don't remember the full details, but we got some of the proposed nerfs reverted and even a buff or two added.
It was the patch that removed The Pig's ability to see her own trap box auras. -
There is currently a bug with The Pig's traps that many Pig mains may not know about, since we don't SEE it… They should IMO fix this bug, or maybe keep it as a compensation for the increased ambush speed?

[Thanks to Streamer Kneenz for this clip. The title is because this was suggested by many Pig mains in the past, but ONLY alongside buffs to her other aspects. Taken alone as it currently is, it's a major nerf.] -

If this isn't allowed feel free to delete.
The latest update to this game has made it abundantly clear BHVR not only doesn't want survivors to play stealthy, but they are going to do everything they can to prevent it. Don't get me wrong..... It's their game and they have that right. I even understand why they don't want survivors to play that way.
Having said that the reason I started playing this game and the reason I continued to do so is because I enjoyed the cat and mouse aspect of the game. I don't enjoy the chase simulator style. That's not a knock. It's not a complaint. It's just my personal preference. The most enjoyment I get from this game is watching a killer walk away after not being able to find me. That was already next to impossible with aura reveals, scream perks, etc. But the update to crows has completely shut that down.
Is anyone aware of any other games out there where stealth is not only part of the game but perhaps even a welcome and vital part of the game?
Killer Main here (I play survivor only with streamer friends.) I think they did need to do something about the extreme stealth that was going on, but.. they way overtuned it. Hopefully they will tweak it more to allow for stealth, but not to a stupid extreme.

I wonder if she would work as a survivor...
If instead of screaming or being in pain, she laughed mockingly and made snarky comments to each killer... kinda like a reverse Entity, where she is playing by the rules of the trial by diesnt suffer any of the consequences.
Something like "AARRRRRRRGGGHHH!.... heh just kidding!"
Would be a major betrayal of the horror theme of course... but it would be funny. 😏
Oh yea I could totally see her doing that!

Legendary for Sable would make money.
Nah she'd not be a survivor, she's at least as strong as the Entity. She would definitely be a killer if she was going to return.

It's not up to BHVR. They'd have to get permission from Wes Craven's family to do anything with Robert Englund's version. That's very unlikely to happen.

Interesting, I never noticed it. I thought the change was only for Ash, because the initial Mori cut of the Finger of his Puppet-Hand, so it was not fitting.
Yea not sure when they fixed it, but when they did the new Mori they just applied it to men entirely, not just Ash. No idea if they had to do this or chose to.

@Aven_Fallen said:
I guess that it would in theory be possible to add his fangs during the Mori. They did it with Ash as well, Clown cuts of the finger of his actual hand and not the puppet one like before.
Well, no that's not exactly true. There is a slightly different Mori for Male and Female characters. So Ash, being a Male, gets the Male Mori. Female characters have the original Mori before they realized Ash was a problem. Though he IS the reason this change was made.

The problem with that is, in order to give killer players something more enticing than taking easy chases into massive value from someone being dead early, you have to give them something MASSIVE.
If you give killer players overall something that huge, the people who already do fine without tunnelling are going to do even better and become borderline unstoppable.
It's much safer and more appropriate to just nerf the unbalanced cheese strat so it's not as easy and/or rewarding.
Well, yes but in that case, what about when 2-3 generators get done before the killer gets even one hook? So called "gen rushing" is not a problem, it's just survivors being efficient with their objectives.. So why can't the killer be efficient?

If they're reworking it, it's because it's not valid. What reality are you living in?
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3950682#Comment_3950682
This post is ironic tbh. You stated tunneling is the most efficient way to play and that's why it's done, while also stating that BHVR shouldn't decentivize tunneling because you don't want to "punish" Killers. To make tunneling not the most efficient strategy, they need to punish it. Unless you're in the camp that Killers should be rewarded more for not tunneling? Which isn't going to change how tunneling is the most efficient thing to do nor deterring toxic players from doing it every match. Killers shouldn't get any incentives to not tunneling.
Turning a 4v1 into a 3v1 is just smart to do. There is no reason to spread out hooks. So, the way to fix it is to give killers ar reason to not tunnel.
As the saying goes, you attract more flies with honey than ####. -

The cause is that the killer can tunnel and thus will tunnel. The solution is making it harder for the killer to tunnel.
Every single time a balancing change has made that "fixed" the supposed cause (and call me a mindreader here, because 100% you're going to say its generator times, when its not), tunnelling INCREASED.
DS got nerfed with conspicious actions? No one ran DS, which meant there was no obsession in the game. No obsession in the game meant free tunnelling, despite all regression perks being buffed, they still tunnelled.
So they were forced to make obsessions basekit to prevent tunnelling.
Which goes to show, killers will tunnel whenever they can, they actively need implementations to NOT tunnel. The cause is because they can. "Fixing symptoms" as you call it, is actually fixing the cause. No, you aren't psychic because I don't think generator repair times are the issue. But, in all of that, you almost quite made my point for me, then dismissed it. Yes, they need to incentivize killers to spread out the hooks and not tunnel, not punish killers for doing so. The "Cause" is that it's the most efficient way to play. So they need to change that. How? I don't know, I am not a game developer. But until they do figure something out to fix that, they will only be putting bandaids on the problem.

Don't remember where, but I believe I remember one of the developers suggesting that The Entity was heavily inspired by Stephen King. Let's face it. We all have our "dream chapter' but many of the BHVR developers? IT is their dream chapter. Sure, other chapters might be better from a financial standpoint, like if they had to pick between Pennywise and Jason, taking the other permanently off the table, the bean counters likely would choose Jason. But if they could tell the bean counters to be quiet and let them do what they want, it's likely many of them would choose Pennywise.
