But what if it’s a cool killer with a great design, fun perks and an interesting and interactive power? You’ll feel pretty silly then!
-
I’m gonna do my best to give an honest, unbiased answer.
I think some killers relied quite heavily on Ruin, and without it they feel like gens go too fast so they get frustrated and feel like they have to camp/tunnel to get the survivors off gens, since so many survivors play right into it. We’ve all seen teams that run at the killer to help when one guy is being camped or hard tunnelled.
Problem is, if the survivors are efficient then it’s really hard to spread pressure, especially for killers who don’t have tons of hours. Survivors who know what they’re doing won’t be afraid to be injured, so they get unhooked and immediately jump back on a gen. This playstyle is made even more viable by using certain perks: if the killer comes back and downs them they can either use DS or Unbreakable to quickly get back in the game. I used to really preach about killers leaving the hook, because the guy who got unhooked and the guy who rescued would spend time healing, giving the killer time to initiate another chase and apply more pressure. But these days you see more and more survivors just getting right back on a gen the second they’re unhooked. I do it myself, even. And there’s nothing now to slow them down, in fact if they’re running Resilience they’ll do that gen even faster.
So if you’re a killer and you hook someone, what is the best play? Staying at the hook is potentially bad, because the other survivors do gens uninterrupted. But then again there’s no guarantee you’ll get to the other survivors in time to stop their gens from popping. And if you leave the hook your only pressure gets lost and in no time you have 3/4 survivors all on gens again. You can gamble on survivor altruism by staying near the hook, and drawing one or two survivors to you, then trying to go for trades or slugging. It’s probably a safe play in many situations.
I don’t like camping or tunnelling one person, so I’m not condoning this playstyle, mind you. But I think this is why more people play like this. If the survivors all split up it’s much more difficult to pressure them, you need to get the survivors stacking up and try to snowball from there. Using one guy on the hook as bait is probably the easiest way to do that.
-
I know the kind of SWFs you mean. If any of them die they all blame it on the random player(s), even if their deaths were the result of their own poor plays. They make no attempt to help you out whatsoever even when it would be easy. They’re super toxic in end game chat, throw around slurs, call everyone useless, call the killer a baby, etc.
I’ve played with nice/normal SWFs and that’s always a fun time at least.
-
The devs will never remove SWF so I wouldn’t even worry about it. People can stamp their feet about eeeevil SWF all they want, it won’t make a difference.
I personally dislike most SWFs because they’re toxic to killers and solo survivors alike. Doesn’t mean they should be removed from the game though.
-
Just don’t vault windows, don’t use pallets, don’t be in the open, don’t let the killer who’s faster than you get close, and don’t let the killer have bad ping so they hit you round corners. Ez. Anyone who thinks that’s unreasonable is just an entitled survivor main obviously.
-
Controversial opinion: I don’t really care about the loops in this map. IMO the biggest problem is how split up and safe almost all of the gens are. You have multiple gens in and behind buildings and long walls which makes it difficult to hear or see how progressed they are, it wastes a ton of time to check them, and survivors can easily hide in a million different places if they hear you coming. The gens are just too safe to properly pressure so if the survivors split up, you’re screwed.
-
Aw, I like the matchbox. It’s the only way I was able to get the adept achievement on PS4 a while back. :D I didn’t have to spend hours hurting myself by learning to play console Nurse, so it’s alright by me.
(No, I don’t have anything more constructive to add here, as you can probably tell I don’t play Nurse. I feel your pain though, there are a lot of useless killer add ons unfortunately.)

^ this.
Like, people speak about coordination. Something like "He is chasing me, do Gens"... When I play Solo and I am not getting chased, I am on a Gen. I dont need a SWF-Mate to tell me that.
People should stop using SWF as their excuse when they lose. Being in an SWF does not make someone a good player all of the sudden. And if 4 skilled players are in an SWF the result would have probably not been different when they would have been Solo.
Yeah, I think a lot of people scapegoat SWF when really, the biggest problem for killers is survivors knowing what they’re doing and playing decisively. You don’t need SWF to tell you when to pressure gens, when to save and how to take a hit for a teammate if you’re a decent survivor player. A ton of survivors are not great and will play scared and selfish in solo queue though so everyone assumes that any hint of team play = coordinated sweaty SWF, when you can easily have solos that aren’t afraid to play injured, be chased or go for risky saves.
You don’t need SWF to play survivor well, it just makes it easier. You’re emboldened since you trust your friends to unhook you, heal you, take hits and be productive. You can’t guarantee that in solo queue.
-
I totally agree. I understand why the devs wanted to try changing rank reset, as there were complaints to make about the old system as well, but I think it was the better solution despite its flaws.
-

Stealth is definitely an option, and you can build towards it with perks like Iron Will, Calm Spirit, and Distortion. Though we aren't looking to shift things in the direction of hide and seek. You're totally welcome to if that's how you want to play, but many people enjoy chasing and being chased, while others find searching every corner of the map for that hidden survivor to be boring.
God bless you
-
They probably have no power in their real lives, so they get a little thrill feeling like they’re “superior” to someone because they beat them in a game. It’s sad but a lot of people are like this.

While it is true that is more difficult against an experienced killer, I don’t think there is an excuse to do it. Even experienced killers can struggle against a bullying SWF. Especially if that killer use multiple killers and like to use non metaperks.
I’m not saying it’s right for people to go out of their way to try and annoy someone. I don’t do it and I don’t have much time for anyone who plays like that, it’s not something I’m interested in. I’m just saying that once you reach a certain point, stuff like flashlights don’t bother you because you know how to counter them, and teabagging isn’t a really big deal either because it doesn’t actually do anything. So trying to bully a killer with enough experience won’t really work, they’ll just waste time and get killed.
-

So bullying is justified against high rank killer?
It’s extremely difficult to “bully” an experienced killer since the things people consider “bullying” are easy to counter or have little effect on gameplay.
-
I got this too, in my first game of killer and every game after. Extremely distracting.
-
It should be reworked entirely in my opinion. Why would I want to block windows near where a gen was finished? The survivors will all immediately leave the area as there’s no longer anything of interest there.
The only way I can see this perk working is if you pair it with Tinkerer maybe. Even then it’s not a strong enough effect.
-
Not a survivor main but almost all of them. There are only a couple I think are too strong and even then, I feel like really minor tweaks would be enough.

Yes and no. Yes, it is technically possible if they're designed with that in mind, but no, it's not as simple as slapping a new layer of blood over top of whichever cosmetic you want.
To keep it simple, I'm going to ELI5. Let's pretend the thing you want to add blood to is a cube. To add a texture to it, you need to flatten it out. It might look a little something like this:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/479/C2ZMED8MYDFA.png
Then you add blood to it. It might look something like this, although obviously not as crude as this example:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/495/LDA7M864GA6P.png
Now aside from the fact that this example is very crudely made, it looks fine so far, right? But keep in mind what happens when you fold this 3D object back up. The blood splotch in the bottom right might be fine since it's already on the face that's going to be next to it, but what about the top one?
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/492/FOKEAKQEXQRL.png
As you can see, the blood splotch on top is going to fold up against a face that doesn't have any blood on it. That's going to make a very clear (and ugly) seam where the blood suddenly stops and disappears.
To which you might say, it's simple enough, just make sure that it lines up with the other faces and then apply that to all cosmetics. That may work for simple objects like cubes, but more complex objects (like a shirt, or an entire killer's body) aren't as clean and uniform. They've got a lot of polygons, and they don't unfold neatly. To save space, an arm might be separated from the torso and rotated to fit into a small file. More importantly, since each cosmetic is a different shape (a t-shirt will have a different layout than a hoodie, for example), there's no good way to have a single bloody texture that covers everything.
There are some workarounds, but they tend not to be as nice or details as the manually created ones. Slapping a generic texture over just anything doesn't quite compare to an artist going through and manually placing the blood.
Thank you for this explanation, as someone with the artistic and programming knowledge of a garden snail I find stuff like this super interesting. :)

Record multiple videos? Just play survivor and see how many times a killer gets at minimum a 3k.. More often than not, they're getting a 4k and you end up dying. Unless you're a god tier SWF, there's at least a 70% chance of a killer getting a 4K in todays game.
Not at all true in my experience. I’ve been recording the results of my matches for a few weeks (mostly after the latest patch) and my escape rate is about 60%, as a red rank solo. If you know where gens are and can loop the killer for longer than 20 seconds, your chances are pretty good against the average killer.

What i find honestly interesting is that Iri Head is only just starting to become a problem to people now. Huntress has been in the game what 3 years now? Rarely was it ever mentioned on the forums as it was always Nurse, Billy threads. Survivors got what they wanted and now Nurse is undeniably weaker, they then complained about Spirit, once again got what they wanted, they then move onto Billy which the ideas are hilarious such as 110% Billy thats laughable. Now people want Huntress nerfing all of a sudden.
Lets be honest guys you want this game to be a cake walk i get it and its way to obvious you can't even deny it. Once X gets nerfed you will just move onto X because you know the devs listen to the majority over the minority, even if what the majority say is completely wrong.
This is how it works, though. Killers complained about insta heals so they got nerfed, then they complained about toolboxes so they got nerfed, then they complained about survivors stacking on gens so that got nerfed, now it’s stretched resolution for some reason that is the source of all killer woes. It’s always worked this way in DBD and it always will. Survivors complain about the strong stuff and killers complain about the strong stuff, then when the strong stuff gets weakened they complain about whatever is next on the list. People love to complain about this game, they always have and they always will. It’s the circle of nerfs, it’ll never end.
-
I enjoyed old Freddy and was just starting to get pretty decent with him when they reworked him. I know he was unpopular but I liked the juggling playstyle, and there was actually a decent amount to learn within his ability. New Freddy doesn’t interest me whatsoever, I find him boring to play and I think he has too much in his kit. I don’t enjoy facing him as survivor either.

who the heck complains about camping and tunneling in dbd 2020?? You only complain about it when you get downed in 5 seconds buying no time for your teammates to do gens. Simply get better at the game and don’t complain to devs to ruin the game even more to veteran player.
”Ruined the game” in what sense?
-
Just remove them IMO. They serve no purpose except to ridiculously extend the grind. I understand why they existed when the game launched and had like 20 perks for each side, but they’re unnecessary now. No I don’t want my DS to be stuck at tier 1 for the next month, I want to get tier 3 so it’s actually a useful perk, except I have like 300 tiers of perk that can appear in my bloodweb so I’m completely at the mercy of more annoying RNG. Urgh.

what rank are you at atm.
I’ve been playing the game for like 2 years so I’m pretty much always at rank 1.
If you want to rank up, builds aren’t necessarily the first thing you should worry about. I’d really recommend watching some good survivor gameplay and seeing what they do and why. Getting good gamesense and knowing how to counter all killers is the best way to do well in this game.

One perk I have never used is Whispers. I don't get it, or I don't get any luck out of it. I have all my Killers to P3 50, so I have a lot of Killer experience, but that perk...Seems useless to me.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1253503#Comment_1253503
I agree, may lose value if all maps get breakable walls, but we will have to wait for that one.
Whispers is pretty great on Doctor since you always know when you’ll get value from Static Blast. It’s also good on Trapper for knowing when you may be being watched settings traps. Also on stealth killers like Pig/Ghostface/Myers, you can get an easy early-game chase/stalk by using it to narrow down where the survivors spawned without wasting time slowly looking for people. It’s also great in the end game for knowing which door someone is at.
-
My favourite build right now is Kindred, Sprint Burst, Iron Will and either Borrowed Time or We’ll Make It, with a yellow med kit and a bandage add on so I can get two full heals.
I use Sprint Burst to finish unsafe gens early in the match without worrying about being caught out of position. Iron Will helps with looping and not getting tunnelled off the hook. Kindred gives me constant information about what my teammates are doing, when to go for the save vs pressuring gens, where the killer is heading after the hook, and it gives my team a better chance of coordinating a save. We’ll Make It lets me heal an unhooked teammate in 8 seconds, so they don’t waste time self caring or instantly go down again, or BT for saves against proxy campers or in the end game.
I like the fact that this build gives me survivability, but also lets me support the team as a whole. If I’m not getting injured I can use my medkit on someone else, and if the killer is good I always know where gens are being worked on and what my team are doing and how they play (bold, immersed, gen jockeys, etc.).
-
I’m having a blast. I can play lower tier killers without wanting to cry, I do well and get tons of bloodpoints almost every match, going against good survivors is actually kinda fun now since they can’t just hump a busted structure anymore, we both have to engage our brains a little more and chases feel more dynamic and interesting. I’m not the world’s greatest killer but I’m good enough to have a chance in most matches and it’s really fun even when I get beaten. Almost all of the most frustrating/uncounterable things for killer are gone now (insta heals, commodious toolboxes, stupidly strong windows, giant maps filled with safe loops). If you’re still not having fun I’m not sure what to tell you.
-
Having some dead zones is okay, but one or two maps are a little bit much now. Thompson House can be awful and barren and it’s not a matter of “just don’t get caught in a dead zone” when so many of the generators are in dead zones. You can’t use optimal pathing or planning ahead, either you have Sprint Burst or you get hit.
A little something would be nice. Some rocks and trees for cover or to try and loop around to buy yourself even a few seconds, a couple of Z walls even so people can use Lithe to get away. And I honestly think some maps need more line of sight blockers. At least give me the option of trying to confuse the killer with my escape route if I don’t have any pallets. It’s more fun to try that than just “hold W in an open field”.
-
I only have one rule for myself when playing either side: remember that the person I’m playing against is another person. So I won’t go out of my way to try and annoy them, I just play the game and try to have fun without doing obnoxious things.
That said, if someone tries to be rude to me I will be a little rude back. If someone facecamps me without a reason and I get to the exit gate, they deserve a little teabag. Or if a survivor BMs me I’ll give them a few nods. Nothing excessive, just an acknowledgement.
In terms of in-game mechanics, I don’t really consider much survivor behaviour toxic. Trying to force me to eat your DS isn’t toxic, bombing the hook with BT isn’t toxic, teabagging isn’t toxic, Head On isn’t toxic, using a flashlight isn’t toxic. They might annoy me at times but they’re not toxic. There’s only one in-game behaviour I’d consider toxic: spamming fast vaults. It actually causes me physical discomfort so if you do it enough I’ll try and force you out of the game by any means, sorry not sorry.
On a personal level, I don’t use Object of Obsession because it’s a perk I hate and I’d rather not inflict it on others. But I don’t expect anyone else to be held to that standard, it’s a perk in the game so run it if you want. This goes for all perks, items and add ons. They’re fine. I might roll my eyes at four DS and Unbreakables and a purple key but sometimes people have bad games and just really wanna escape, so whatever. They don’t know me so it’s not personal.
Good luck with your project. :)

Solo survivor at red ranks running Empathy, and record how many times your teammates will Self Care through Sloppy Butcher in the corner of the map.

Omg. Killer mains are so delusional that every nerf to survs is actually, somehow...a buff. I cant anymore. Never mind the fact that solo survs still have to work around a totally broken matchmaking/ranking system. Never mind anytime you bring friends to actually have a chance against sweaty s tiers the killer brings pink add ons and moris.
But killers think moris and insta down add ons are totally fair! Lol cant take any of you seriously anymore. The entitlement of killer mains who use the crying mob of the noob killers who want the game balanced around their r20 leatherfaces to constantly nerf survs is just too painful to read. You guys have proven you'll NEVER be happy. Not even when you've got several s tiers to destroy the vast majority of survs you go up against.... imagine complaining about not getting as many bs shots at windows like you used to. But dont worry, you can still hit through most pallets!
Uhhh. Where did the OP complain? They said that this patch “made the game more fun” for both sides so I’m pretty sure they were praising this change, not complaining about it.
-
The most logical explanation is that they’re changing something behind the scenes and it’s temporarily affecting matchmaking. New servers, different servers, the previously mentioned MMR system, something like that.
-
How would you differentiate between someone killing themselves on the hook because they’re tilted, and someone dying on hook because their teammates are completely uninterested in saving them? Or people bringing tons of hook offerings and trying to kobe for fun? Or someone attempting to escape when there are only two survivors left in the match?
-
I don’t mean to be rude, but if gens are consistently still popping too quickly for you after the multiple recent nerfs and changes, then I would suggest re-evaluating your gameplay. It might be that you just got unlucky with bad map RNG if it happens now and then, but if you’re losing games to fast gens a lot it suggests to me that you’re making some easily correctable mistakes.
-
Sometimes the survivors have a little gate party, they click their flashlights and butt dance and nod and point at each other. It’s like a little bonding session if the team is strangers but did well.
Sometimes you want to take a hit, especially if you didn’t get chased much since you get boldness points for it.
Sometimes you can farm an easy WGLF stack if two of you take a hit, which is an extra 25% bloodpoints.
Sometimes survivors just want to gloat, or be smug, and rub in the fact that they all get to escape.

its a meme perk.
however, on a coordinated SWF it can also be extremely strong and super annoying for the killer - just because survivors know where their Head On friends are in lockers, while the killer doesnt. so they can easily lure him over there and then a healthy survivor can just head on stun the killer mid chase and take the aggro off the injured one.
also i tend to get hit by it while im already in the locker opening animation a lot. guess latency really hates me sometimes :/
I got Head On’d by two survivors in lockers next to each other the other day. One jumped out and stunned me, then as soon as I recovered from the stun and moved the other one followed suit. The sort of play only people in SWF can realistically pull off but I was too impressed to be annoyed honestly. I imagine it would tilt a lot of players to suffer that though, it would’ve tilted me when I was newer to the game.

Been playing a lot the past days and noticed it on both sides. There are tons of new red rank killers and red rank survivors that have only a few days of playtime and thus perform and (psychologically) act like yellow ranks pretty often.
Since it's pretty easy to pip on both sides people fly to red ranks in no time resulting in... Kinda awkward games to say the least.
Ranks really mean very little due to how easy it is to rank up on both sides.
Yeah, I’ve been noticing a lot more inexperienced killers at red ranks lately too. I usually expect boosted survivors but not killers.
Pipping is easy, depipping is uncommon, and rank reset only drops you down to purple now so the red ranks are filled with enthusiastically-playing but inexperienced players.

Every time he misses a frenzy hit he gets stunned for ~4 seconds, so no, he’s better on PC.

Umm what does the motivation change exactly?
The fact is killers CAN play like this. It doesn't matter if this guy held a grudge, tru3 had another video the other week where a completely random guy played like this. I've had people with a grudge tunnel me as GF and do this, I've also had random players do it just because they're trolls.
I didn't forget to say anything. You're just looking for a way to excuse this. The issue isn't what THIS player did, the issue is what ALL players have access to - which is these kind of mechanics. Slugging, waiting, waiting, waiting, mori. Add to that everything else killers can do and the game can become pretty miserable.
The past year has seen a lot of nasty toxic survivor things changed but nothing gets changed about what killers can do, purely because the devs put survivor fun as bottom priority. I'm sure at the behavior office making sure that the carpark is freshly swept is a bigger priority than survivors enjoying the game.
“The past year has seen a lot of nasty toxic survivor things changed but nothing gets changed about what killers can do”
They literally changed mori spam in the latest patch so yes, things are changed to improve survivor QOL.
-
As a killer, I’d rather face good loopers than survivors who hide and make me waste my time running around the map trying to find someone. Looping is at least interactive and I can practice my own anti-loop skills.
-
I think the devs have done a decent job at removing ways for either side to be horribly toxic or time wasting to each other. They removed mori spam, bodyblocking the basement, holding the game hostage in general, and hatch standoffs as a few examples.
There will always be idiots who will try to ruin the fun of another player. Most killers just kill you and end the match, and the ones that do stuff like slug you for the full bleed out are rare in my experience. It’s annoying when it happens and I think the devs should address it, but they probably will. In the meantime, report people that do stuff like this.

Portraits would need some form of rework too,
but it’ll be easy to loose track of portraits while searching the map for other survivors
Killers who return to the hook every time won’t be across the map chasing other survivors, they’ll be “searching the area” waiting for the unhook, or nearby while a survivor bombs the hook behind them. In the scenario where a killer is off chasing or looking for someone else, the unhook notification doesn’t really matter.
And reworking portraits in their entirety just for this doesn’t seem realistic to me, sorry. I agree with you that tunnelling is frustrating but I don’t think this is the solution.
-
Removing the notification wouldn’t do much since if they’re the type to proxy camp, they’ll just keep an eye on the survivor portraits.

No, it’s not always SWF. The devs have confirmed that one of the causes for these kinds of rank disparities is people leaving lobbies and being replaced by someone with a much higher or lower rank.
-

U just say it buddy. If you are yellow rank in SWF with red rank friend, you will get killers like this. It is too mutch for matchmaking system, cause rank difference is so huge. If you will play solo, there is more chance get fair match for both sides.
These rainbow rank matches occur in solo as well.

White Ranks has no matchmaking. They will be matched with every rank in the game.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s intentional, it’s a horrible experience for most people and they’re free to complain about it when it’s ruining their matches.
-
Just to add on to this issue (which is still ongoing as of today), earlier I had a related but opposite bug: I was playing Kate, got healed by a survivor, and then proceeded to heal them. However the entire time I was healing them Kate was whimpering and crying like she was still injured. I’d been fully healed and the portrait on the bottom left had changed so it was definitely bugged somehow. Once I finished healing them it went away.
I’ve also noticed that survivors cry like they’re injured while waking each other up from Freddy’s dream state, even if they’re full health. Not sure if this is related or a separate issue.

I used to get put into the London server, then just after the patch I was connecting to Germany, and today I was connecting to Ireland which I believe is a new location. So take this with a pinch of salt because I’m guessing like everyone else, but there seem to be some behind the scenes changes going on.

Most people these days don’t stay in one job forever, it’s probably just a different boss or a different workplace.
