It is, though. No survivor I've sent to cages has come out of them still Tormented.
I just played a match five minutes ago where I rescued someone from the cage and they remained tormented. I've also been saved from the cage and stayed tormented.

The ability description says that being rescued or rescuing a survivor from a cage removes Torment.
It isn't working that way on the PTB. I assume it's bugged, so I've reported it.

Honestly I just hope the devs don’t make a knee jerk reaction and get this right I’m a big silent hill fan lol I’m probably going to buy every single cosmetic
Me too. I’ve played a few survivor matches on the PTB and it’s almost impossible to give feedback because the matches are so wildly different than on live and nobody knows how to play as or against him. So I’m gonna wait before I start screaming “OVERPOWERED” or “UNDERPOWERED”.
-
There are already killers crying that he’s weak, too.
Everyone needs to play at least a handful of matches before they say anything.
-
Because it gives you an in-game advantage and there’s no punishment for doing it. That’s more than enough for some people.

i have no idea why i been banned but my heart is beating so fast rn... to appeal a ban or at least find out why i have done nothing why maybe a tiny bit of in game toxic behavior occasionally but no hacking or anything...
You didn’t get banned by EAC for being AFK.
Have you used any external software that BHVR could have blacklisted?

Wait I'm confused... you mean survivors are still choosing to "Not Cleanse" against a Plague after the update that gave her 1 corrupt fountain in the beginning? I must be playing Plague in the wrong ranks then because that tactic is crazy rare for me now (purple ranks).
Not cleansing is the right move for the first half of the game. She only has one pool and it can spawn in a disadvantageous place, meaning she has to lose time to go and get it. Survivors feeding her easy extra pools at 4 or 5 gens left is often a death sentence. Once a few gens are done though you can cleanse in those dead zones and it makes getting her power a bit more risky for her.
A lot of survivors don’t understand that they should be tactical with when and where they cleanse though, they either think “cleansing is good because I don’t want to be injured!” or “cleansing is ALWAYS BAD” and it really isn’t that black and white of a choice. And in solo queue there’s no way to communicate any of this so if you have someone panicky on your team you’re kinda screwed.
-
Realistic guess: Pennywise.
More out there guess: Dracula or another licensed vampire.
I find this one hard to call though, the devs have been pretty good at keeping their tracks covered.
-
Yeah it’s especially bad at the moment. Getting chased? Better run straight towards the guy on the hook! Five gens left to complete and one guy just became injured? Watch me creep around the outskirts of the map. Hillbilly, the world’s most prolific BBQ user, just got a hook? Lemme run into the basement on the other side of the map real quick, nothing could go wrong.
-
“No fun allowed” types. The ones who will tunnel you straight off hook, slug you for extended periods of time and not allow you to be picked up, spam fast vaults to annoy you, sandbag you, tell you you played like garbage in post-game chat and leave messages on your profile, etc. etc.
I play this game for fun and not to sweat or BM. I wish I could be matched up with others who are the same. Win, lose, I don’t really mind as long as I don’t feel like someone on the opposite side is using me as a punching bag.

Translation: I am a survivor in red ranks enjoying the only game platform in the world where the game is one-sided in my favor and I'm having a blast making killers miserable and suicidal.
If this game is making you miserable and suicidal, I would strongly recommend you take a break.
It’s a game. Losing isn’t important. Survivors blinding you with flashlights isn’t important. None of it reflects on you as a person or your worth to the world, so if losing is making you feel that bad, please take a step away from the game for the sake of your mental health. There are thousands of other games you can play that won’t make you feel that way.
-
@Blueberry said:
I agree. You don't have to be good at the game as survivor to win if your team is simply efficient at rushing gens. Not saying they shouldn't be focused on gens, but that the speed at which the gens can be completed is way too fast. This results in many games at red ranks where you lost even though you didn't get out played at all, they just did gens fast.
Being good at survivor isn’t just about chases, though. Of course it’s important but it isn’t the be all and end all.
Taking the killer on long chases is good but you also have to pressure the map properly. Avoid three gen scenarios, keep tabs on where the killer is, figure out their perks and play around them, adapt to the playstyles of your teammates, save at the right time, heal or don’t heal when necessary, know when to take a hit or a hook state, avoid running the killer to progressing gens. Having good game sense is just as important as your mechanical ability in a chase.
The same also goes for killer. Plenty of killers are good at chases but they have little map control or awareness, so they’ll lose to survivors who are weak at chases but good at pressuring the map.
-
Eh, I wouldn’t be upset but I wouldn’t be that excited either.
To be honest though I’m more concerned about the new killer, whoever they are, having a cool power and fun perks.
-
Why would they? Do you know how many matches I’ve played this week that had ebony moris, facecampers, people who tunnel like crazy once they see there’s no Obsession, or people who sweat against a team of solos with an early DC? Neither side has much empathy so don’t expect it.

That's absolutely false.
It has been said on this forum for a long time now. Hell, I've tested it myself. Add a low rank person to a lobby of red/purple ranks and you'll get matched against a ton of baby killers.
That’s because if the killer dodges (which they’re much more likely to do against a full SWF), they’re replaced by a killer of any rank. The devs have confirmed that abandoned lobbies prioritise quick matchmaking.
If red rank killers stopped dodging lobbies, new players wouldn’t get them.
-
I think it’s one of the more balanced maps in the game, so I’d rather they don’t change it too much. It would be nice to have a bit more carnival flair in it though.

As with many killers that are popularly hated, the short answer is they don't like having to change their playstyle. They think he's OP because their old tricks don't work on him, and they don't know how to come up with new ones. Everyone has killers that they prefer playing against over others, but killing yourself right away instead of trying to learn how to counter them doesn't do anyone any favours.
No, not really. He’s not even that difficult to win against, I just don’t want to spend 10 minutes having to endure survivors screaming over and over and his annoying chase music, plus the sound of his static really irritates me. I’m sure I’m not alone in finding matches against him physically difficult and annoying.
-
“Many recent Tweets also seem to suggest heavily that our next killer is going to be out of this world and very much from the cold depths of space, where no one can hear you scream.”
Ooh, this one intrigues me. Can anyone give some examples of tweets like this? I don’t have Twitter so I don’t keep up with the devs on there.

I feel like huntress is one of the best killers in the game (and Freddy and nurse). Iri heads are OP (you shouldn’t be able to combine them with infantry belt - that seems broken to me). But as far as aiming goes whenever I go up against a huntress and she’s throwing a hatchet at me they are almost impossible to dodge. My question to you is, how do you miss? 😂😂😂 The hitbox seems frustratingly large. Am I wrong? One hit down ranged attacks shouldn’t be this ridiculousY easy to get. I don’t find it very fun that a killer has the capability of ending chases and... quite possibly the game that fast. Hit with hatchet up close then swing (hatchet first means you don’t take a stun and keep moving). Fastest chase ending strategy I know. And you’re giving them up to 3 iris per locker reload? With no limit? Why are survivor add ons consumable but not killer ones? Makes no sense.
Have you tried playing Huntress? That’s the best way to understand. It may seem easy when you’re facing someone who is practised with her, but it definitely isn’t easy your first few games.

Has anyone else just not had fun playing killer? You get gen rushed by toxic people who sit there going from pallet to pallet, taunting you with health kits or flashlights, and occasionally they get lucky stuns. Really bummer. Sucks also when you keep getting games like that, and derank like crazy. Now, I'm not even by any means a bad killer, I've been rank 8 and I think that's a fair spot for me. But since rank reset I've gotten down to 14 and some of those games have been disconnects. The aforementioned reasons are why. Why is it that people have to play like toxic scumlords instead of letting everyone involved enjoy themselves? Is it written somewhere that everyone has to be a piece of sh*t in game lately? I don't understand. I am asking for help to get me to understand why people must be toxic and pretend they're not. What does one gain from being sh*tty to another person in a game? Do they have pent-up aggression that they take out in people in-game? Are they that sad? Help me understand.
Yes, people get incredibly frustrated playing this game and then take it out on others. They have a match against a mori and the next match when they easily escape, they teabag at the exit gates to vent their feelings. Then that killer who got teabagged gets frustrated and sweats his ass off in the next match, playing dirty and frustrating the survivors.
The sooner you stop letting this game frustrate the hell out of you, the happier you’ll be playing it. This goes for everyone. It’s not personal. Losing doesn’t mean anything, or say anything about you as a person. Nobody is trying to piss you off in particular, they’re just mad.
-
Do everything in your power to avoid the first hit. If you get hit you’re dead so your only option is to not get hit. And yes, I agree that “just don’t get hit” is terrible, extremely non-specific advice, especially against a killer with a small terror radius and the ability to phase out of reality.
Stay healed, run strong perks (DS and Unbreakable are basically required since most Spirits immediately phase back to the hook), don’t waste any time (you need to rush gens as fast as possible), pray you have a decent team, hope for a big map.

Why should i "just deal with it" when it's an exploit with that logic the next killer exploit that happens you should just deal with it because who cares?
I do deal with it when killers exploit in ways that don’t totally break the game. Jumping over pallets, stuff like that Legion pallet blind trick, whatever. As long as it’s a normal match that ends in an appropriate time I really don’t care about minor exploits, because I don’t consider this game to be a super serious esport.
-
Oh my god, who cares. Is it annoying when a survivor dcs to give their teammate the hatch? Sure. Does it happen often enough to warrant a three page thread of bickering about it? No.
There’s an in game punishment for dcs, just deal with it and move on.

Because they were poking at the basement and I was hitting them and then going back to it, as well as getting tons of hits with save the best when they rushed the basement as a group. And as I said, I was not getting penalized for camping hooks even though I was walking around the top of the basement for the majority of the game. It might not count the penalty through walls.
You don’t get a penalty if there’s a survivor in the vicinity, so most likely there was a survivor creeping around waiting for the unhook.
-
I find it depressing that people will respond to a difference of opinion with what is effectively “shut up killer/survivor main!”
I think a lot of people just disagree with something but can’t verbalise why, so they resort to calling the other person biased instead. It’s lazy and encourages the “us vs them” atmosphere.
-
I really haven’t noticed much difference in my survivor games, but then I never humped the windows they removed or used commodious toolboxes before the changes.
-
People sure do love to throw around the word “punished” in this community.
No, you won’t be punished. You may miss out on something unspecified if you haven’t prestiged anyone, who knows, but if you’re worried about that you can always prestige a character or two until they officially announce what they were talking about.

Then that is their fault for not doing their research. I have seen survivors at red ranks with less than 100 hours played running the full meta combo and keys. It takes maybe 30-40 minutes to check on youtube how to level optimally. Another 1-2 hours on youtube to get the basic game theory down.
It’s “their fault” for not doing adequate prep for their new video game? Most people who play games just, you know, play them. They don’t treat them like research projects and spend a few hours optimising their future path through the grind. If that’s the way you want to play then there’s nothing wrong with it but you’re in the minority.

@Shocktober said:
You can get almost all the meta perks for survivor with 3 characters to level 40. Bill, David, and Laurie. And the last one you level up will probably have the meta combo before you even hit 40.
Killer you get the two most important perks with 2 characters to level 40. Plague and Clown for corrupt + pop. Everything after that is preference, but that's 2 characters to 40 to be competitive at any rank in the game with killer.
This is true, but it’s not really how new people play. They see a character they like and level them. Or they try out some perks, enjoy Technician or Urban Evasion or whatever and unlock them ASAP. New players don’t know or care about the meta, they’re just excited and want to unlock stuff, especially stuff that helps them as a newbie which may not be something they stick with in the long run. This is half the enjoyment of being new and the insane grind chokes the fun out of it.
-
People want to have fun in the game. Most of the stuff people complain about is the more sweaty stuff, like moris or full teams of DS, that are strong and make them have less fun. I think that’s all it is, if someone doesn’t enjoy the match for whatever reason they complain that it’s because the other side did X, but unfortunately it’s just the design of PvP games in general that not everyone will have fun every match.
-
Because every time I use an altruism offering I never get chance to save, or if I run a boldness offering I never see the killer, etc. etc. I always seem to jinx myself. And god forbid I run a cake or BPS, then I always seem to die on first hook with 5k bloodpoints.
-
People don’t think Wraith is bad in a “you can’t win using this killer” way, but comparatively his power is weaker than others.
He can go invisible, but it’s not true invisibility since survivors can still see him. He has to spend time going invisible and reappearing, during which survivors can run to safety. He’s really not that fast while cloaked without add ons, and he slows down considerably to uncloak. He has to hit everyone twice since he has no instadown in his kit, which can take a while. He’s extremely noisy, and his bell gives him away when uncloaking. He can be light burned while cloaked and he suffers a 5 second pallet stun while cloaked.
Compare him to Spirit who can rematerialise at will and attack instantly, goes truly invisible, is fast and extremely hard to hear while phasing, and has a strong base kit without add ons. Their powers aren’t the same and they don’t play the same but Spirit is objectively better in almost every way.
I enjoy playing Wraith as well, don’t get me wrong, but he just has too many weaknesses in his kit to consider him one of the best. Strong add ons make him better but that’s true of every killer.
-
I can’t believe people still complain so loudly about camping.
It’s really not hard to save someone from a camper if you run BT. I did it earlier, saved someone hooked in the basement from a camping Huntress by making smart use of Kindred and BT. No SWF, no communication, no other survivors. If the killer was better I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it but they probably wouldn’t have had to resort to camping in that case. The only time I won’t make any attempt against a camper is a Bubba.
It‘s so easy to punish camping. If you don’t know how, you need to get better at the game. And if your complaint is that your teammates don’t know how, then while I feel your pain it’s just the unfortunate fact of solo queue. Just move on to the next match instead of demanding punishment for something that punishes itself if the survivors have half a brain.

And just as addition to the 200% speed: the outplay is still working to wait for a post phasing. You have 15 seconds recovery before you can phase again. And I played several times against survivors that simply stopped doing gens and completely focussed on cleansing the totems. And if they all are too close to you, you won't get stacks. Then you have to decide if you just want to give up on the build and try to maximise hook actions until the totem is cleansed or see if you can get some slugs to protect totems and get a few hooks.
As I said, it is a strong build but it can be countered if the survivors don't just give up
- The yakuyoke amulet increases your phase duration but not your recovery time, so you get 8.5 seconds of phasing with the default 15 second recovery. This add on essentially buffs your recovery rate as well.
- You only have 15 seconds recovery if you use your full power. Shorter bursts will give you less cooldown.
- Because your movement speed is so high you don’t need to phase for as long.
All of these factors together mean you can spam your power, cover distances and keep your cooldown short. Unless you’re phasing from one side of a huge map to the other, you won’t need to wait 15 seconds for your power with these add ons.

I know how this build works when it works. It can be nasty. But if they play around it, it is hard to defend totems. Maybe you have not played against a working SWF or some solos that know what they do. Once all 4 know what you are up to, outplaying the totems is not that hard if they work together.
Also regarding Devour, it is pretty easy to note that you are running it in this case. And I already experienced survivors that just start to go for nearly insta unhooks (especially with BT that can be annoying as killer) just to deny you the Devour stacks. Not saying that this is not a strong build, but when talking about "guaranteed 4k" I would say this build has a too effective counterplay
I’ve played against plenty of SWF and competent solos, it’s really not that difficult if you play even a decent baseline Spirit, nevermind with her two strongest add ons.
I don’t agree with you that survivors have time to bomb unhooks, find and do totems and finish all 5 gens against a sonic Spirit so we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
-

The totem thing is not a guaranteed 4k in my opinion. Once they touched a totem they will see the Thrill and know what will happen. Then they will start spamming notification sounds, fake the cleanse or just wait for the next wooshing to expire and then start the cleansing. If you waste all your time protecting the totems, you have no time protecting the gens. Needs a bit coordination and awareness from the surivors, but that can easily fail for the killer as well.
If it were any other killer I’d agree with you, but this is playing Spirit with insanely strong add ons (about 200% movement speed for 8.5 seconds). By the time the survivors start wasting time tapping totems in coordination you’ve already won the match. Either they ignore the totems to rush gens, in which case you easily get your Devour to three tokens and start cleaning up, or you get easy grabs/hits/downs while they try to distract you with totem notifications and you just kill them faster than they can pop gens. The point isn’t to protect your totems, it’s to split the survivors’ focus to give you plenty of time to kill them all. I’ve played against this build a few times and it’s honestly pretty gross.
-
Yeah, people have been doing this for a while and it’s quite easy to do. I have no idea why the devs haven’t fixed it yet.
-
The closest thing to a guaranteed 4K in my opinion is face camping Bubba with Corrupt Intervention, NOED and Bitter Murmur. Try and get your first down before any gens are done (Corrupt helps with this), facecamp them to death, do the same to a second. If the last survivors manage to get all gens done, you use Bitter Murmur to find them and insta down them with NOED. You’ll 4K more often than not with this but it’s extremely boring and requires very little player ability at all.
There’s also Spirit with yakuyoke amulet, mother daughter ring, Devour Hope and Thrill of the Hunt. If they try to cleanse your totems they die, if they ignore your totems they die. A really bad killer could fail with this one I suppose, but if you can play Spirit to a basic level this will give you tons of easy 4Ks.
-
I’ve always understood rapid arm swinging to mean that they’re being camped as well, so I wouldn’t consider it a dick move to stay on your gen, no.

Sure, just ignore what I said about mixed messages.
Not immediately killing myself on hook is not BM either. More hooks and unhooks = more points for everyone.
In any case, you’re obviously set on seeing the killer as the victim in this scenario so I’m gonna just bow out of this conversation.

My point is that from his perspective, it may not have been unprovoked. The fact that you didn't immediately ######### in particular sends mixed messages.
If someone takes me giving them a free hook as a sign of BM then they have serious issues and probably shouldn’t be socialising with others.
-
@Orion said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1269816#Comment_1269816
Look at it from the killer's perspective. He's been having a ######### trial, completely outmatched. Someone lets himself get hooked, but doesn't immediately kill himself (implying you expected to be rescued, or you would've attempted to self-unhook and let the Entity take you ASAP).
Someone comes in and rescues. Killer's already tilted, so this looks like they're just mocking him further by showing that even if the survivors were to literally hand themselves to him, he still wouldn't be able to get any kills. He decides to let you bleed out.
There's no communication in this game. If someone wanted to give me a sacrifice (hasn't happened yet, but maybe one day), they'd have to be very explicit about it for me to be sure that's what they wanted (for example, literally killing themselves on the hook instead of waiting around).
You can try to excuse someone being an ass unprovoked all you want, but he had absolutely no reason to make me bleed out even if I hadn’t been doing him a favour and this is the reason survivors are less likely to take it easy on killers. Some salty killer player on a power trip can waste your time, even a really bad one, if you let them, but bad survivors can’t do that. They can’t remove the killer from the match. As long as killers can kill and survivors can only escape, it will always be more likely for killers to show mercy because it’s inherently less risky to do it.
-
@Orion said:

So you wanted to give him a free kill, but you're pissed that he actually took it? I'm confused.
I’m not sure what is confusing about the situation, it’s quite obvious. I wasn’t pissed that he killed me, I was annoyed that he killed me in the most obnoxious way possible. You don’t have to face camp someone and then leave them on the ground to bleed out for four minutes when they were nice to you. It would be like a killer giving me hatch and me then berating them in end game chat for being a pussy. “Well you wanted them to escape and now you’re pissed they did?” No, the end result isn’t the problem, it’s the way they went about it.

Experience says they're not. Let's not pretend you don't know as well as I do that killers are more likely to go easy on survivors than survivors are to go easy on killers.
This is true but I’d say it’s down to the asymmetrical nature of the game. Killers can straight up remove survivors from the match if they decide to, if you go easy on survivors the worst they can do is teabag you. I’ve had times where I regretted going easy on survivors but nowhere near as much as I’ve regretted being nice to killers.
I still remember a match from a few months back against a Clown who was really struggling. I felt bad for him so I let him hook me, he proceeded to face camp me into stage two, immediately downed me again once I got unhooked and slugged me until I died to the end game. None of us were toxic and I tried to be nice to the guy and he was a complete dick in response. Needless to say I don’t give free hooks as often now.
