I don't understand how people enjoy the game at 10k hours the game has basically been the same for 5 years

I'll say the same thing I have for 5 years:

It's cause they aren't good at any other game lol

Eh, no offense, but that kind of competitive rubs me the wrong way, lol, not trying to knock u down or anything

It's nothing personal or anything. People who make it personal are the problem. I just enjoy top level gameplay. I got that from the guy who taught me how to play Street Fighter.

  • Is sometimes fun.

    Uh. Hmmm. What else?..

  • Man I used to make super long posts on my phone. Now I hardly even bother lmao

What if you have fun making sure everyone else is having fun

Then it goes back to what I was saying before. I'm probably not gonna have fun if you're not putting out your all to win.

That's just me. When I play any kind of game that has even a sliver of competition, I'm gonna play to win and I expect my opponents do the same. That even applies to party games like Mario Party or whatever. Well, especially Mario Party. The more viscious people play the more fun it is lmao

Slugging everyone and leaving them to bleed out is "legal".

You're right it is. If there is no counterplay involved then it could be considered griefing. There should be sped up bleeding times if no one has any perks to get them up and everyone is down. It's just a waste of time. But unfortunately that is apparently a blurry gray line for the devs.

  • @MadLordJack said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2251993#Comment_2251993

It is your responsibility to not actively ruin your opponents experience (griefing), however, which is where the lines start to blurr and which is why we have the Survivors Rulebook For Killers because it's very unlcear for survivor mains to know what's actually necessary.

Griefing is an entirely different can of worms. I'm speaking strictly from legal play.

  • I'll put it this way like I have before:

It isn't YOUR responsibility that your opponent has fun. The only person's fun you are responsible for is your own. That's just how video games work, and this applies to every single video game ever made.

  • Not sure why people are playing nice anyway. Personally, games are no fun for me unless the Killer is a bloodthirsty maniac.

  • I haven't played in a long time, but back around the first year and a half I played with a lot of the Steam forum members. I go back with a lot of you on here.

  • I just want the Legacy I rightfully earned to be given back to me after the data loss fiasco around when Hag came out.

    But that'll never happen unfortunately.

I think fortnight can be played online without a subscription. Maybe, idk I don't play that game but I saw my little brother playing it however idk if it was because I was sharing my subscription with him or not.

Yes but that's cause Fortnite is a legit Free to Play. The same applies to Warframe I believe. Actual F2P don't need subscription. DbD isn't a F2P

  • Someone is new to online console gaming.

  • Being alive is toxic.

  • This topic is as old as DbD itself.

If you get hooked, you deserve nothing. That's all there is to it.

    Welcome back friend.

    You haven't missed much.

The devs are continuing to update maps. Some of the perks have been buffed.

A killer called the Trickster released a little while ago. He's basically a k-pop star killer (not the strongest imo). The new survivor Yun-Jin Lee has a pretty cool exhaustion perk. In the next month or so, we're getting a Resident Evil chapter.

    That's about it really.

The RE chapter has me kinda excited. I love RE so hopefully they do it right (not holding my breath). That should be releasing right around the time I get my boot leave I imagine.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I mean you should be out by like June/July at latest I imagine?

You might come back, good luck with your training though :)

With COVID going on we don't get leave after boot camp anymore, we go straight to combat training and then our job school. It could be a while before I'm back. I will probably pop back up every now and then but I'll probably end up prioritizing other games over this one in my free time.

  • Kills and categories don't contribute to getting a pip anymore.

Kills still count obviously, but you need to also:

    1. End chases quickly

    2. Hook everyone at least once

    3. Prevent gens from popping. The less gens that have been completed when you win the better your ranking in that area.

Essentially, there is a huge disconnect between blood points and Emblems, especially for the Killer.

It's just designed in a way that makes the game less frustrating for Survivors. Emblems have been kinda silly since their inception.

No offence but... Your killer rank is green/yellow and it's 2 days before rank reset. Your survivor rank is red/purple judging by your streams that you just tried to advertise for.

You're clearly a survivor main (which is no big deal. Just wondering why you're pretending to be a killer main).

Just saying, it's way easier to rank up as Survivor. She could have more hours in Killer, considering it is more difficult to rank them up.

I could sleep and get to Red ranks as Survivor. In fact, I've done it twice. With no perks.

lol no the game was absolutely horrible when itc ame out on steam, at least low and moderately skilled killer players cana ctually catch somebody in 2020 without cheating their bandwidth, kicking half or all but one of the guys in the match (when it was p2p), or at the whim or straight up bad luck of a survivor without the vault bamboozle effect and some spots in maps making it impossible to catch them most of the time unless they really goofed. there were way worse problems, on both sides, but those were the ones that came to mind right away along wih the forever sabo'd hooks from jake teams leaving you only the basement or a mori as somebody reminded me of in another thread earlier. I hope they fired whomever thought That was ever a good idea. idk how this game made it past 2016 or 17 except due to the sheer lack of competing games of this sort

When infinites were removed and Myers was released was the best time in the game imo.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I play all these killers you mentioned besides Twins (because I hate their camping playstyle) on PS4 and I have no problems hitting with their powers. Just had a 4k with Slinger against four rank 1s.

Imo Victor's pounce is the easiest of the bunch due to the very generous hitbox, no idea how are you missing those. You can predict a survivor that is zap zaping...

However, I do agree that the turning speed of PC survivors sometimes is too high. I think they do not put a limit on it when coding.

You can't zigzag Slinger within a certain range if you quickscope. It just isn't possible.

    Bad example is bad.

That sounds like a lot of survivors that have switched to killer just to get a few feel good revenging, oh man you sure taught me a lesson! Wow who would've ever thought that they would come back with a character that will most likely lead them to a win! Also check my post again, you don't have to keep posting, simply edit it your last post. I'm sure any survivor who has had enough would switch to a killer or any other survivor to try and get a labeled "gg ez game bro" as they see their rank getting higher.

I didn't say I did, this happens with almost any PVP game for that matter, you can keep miscontruing my argument all you want but it'll remain a fallacy. Also I'm gonna add into what the moderator has said, this keeps being brought back in a circle. No matter what game it is it'll keep continue, a few examples of salt and toxicity happen in other games can be considered the following: Overwatch, Super Smash Bros, Tekken or any fighting game heck even call of duty if you must. The toxic saltiness is there but that's what makes it funny, some people even pretend to be mad for the hell of it since they just want to laugh. This isn't a technical issue either, it's a global one for any online game; this is why people don't even communicate at all. A few people just don't argue or say anything due to this, they just play the game win/lose and then go on about their day.

And those people should continue to get banned, rather than it just being glossed over. I didn't misconstrue anything you said.

Regardless if it is always going to happen, it should still have consequences. That's all there is to it.

Overwatch, a game you used as an example, is very quick to ban people that act toxic, and you're even notified in-game that your report caused someone to get punished.

Just because you find it funny doesn't mean others do

  • @Lefrongo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1800634#Comment_1800634

Well you have the clarification right here folks, although I'm not sure a whole batch of users would instantly get banned after the evidence is reported as well. The player base still seems to be 50k counting up or down, so I'm not too sure on the staff actually handling every report since they don't want to keep losing players which means less consumers.

That seems counterintuitive. Allowing people like this to remain in the game is going to push players away as it is.

Plus, do you really want these customers if they act like this?

If the answer is yes, then you pretty much admit you prefer cash over human decency. That's a great way to lose business as well.

It's obviously just my word, but I've seen both roles over the past year complain about the other side acting like a dick, even though they have the idea of ''Well they can do whatever they want as long as it isn't cheating.''

I don't think these things are one and the same. You can play like a scumbag, but as long as it's within the rules of the game, it's completely fair and isn't worth getting mad about.

That's just how some people play. And that futher drives home the point it isn't their responsibility to make sure you have fun.

You can dislike how someone plays all you want. That doesn't change what I said. It isn't their responsibility.

I can hate people using the noob combo in Halo all I want, that doesn't change the fact it's fair game and anyone can do it. The goal is to win, not to make sure your opponent is having fun.

Losing isn't supposed to be fun. It CAN be fun, but it isn't meant to be. It's meant to illicit negative feelings. That's how game design works.

Yet the very same people who do the whole ''play how you want'' or ''It's not your responsibility to care for the other side'' are the exact same people who go on to complain about one role acting like a dick.

    Uh no they aren't?

You got any evidence to back that up or you just saying that cause you disagree?

  • @Zaytex said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802365#Comment_1802365

Problem is, you can play seriously whilst still being respectful to the other side unless it's going to make you lose. There's been so many situations where the killer is in no threat of losing, but will still tunnel or hardcore camp. Why? You're going to win regardless of what you do, so why make the game miserable for one particular person?

The moral of the story is to not act like a dick for no reason, in my opinion.

This is the problem I brought up in another thread.

It is not your responsibility to ensure the other side has fun in a versus game. That's not how things work.

I would rather a Killer try as hard as he can the entire match rather than lower his power level to make sure I have "fun."

It's disingenuous and insults my skills as a player.

This applies to every single game I've ever played, and holds extremely true to fighting games.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802658#Comment_1802658

Jeez, guys, the game is just poorly designed. The devs realize that one side playing too efficiently ruins the other side's fun, that's why the point system works the way it does. Killers kill too quickly, they get crap for points. Survivors pump out gens and avoid interacting with the killer, they get crap for points.

The point system is a band-aid fix for a problem at the game's core. Playing optimally should provide a fun challenge for the opposing side, but that's rarely the case. So, the game is what it is. What a killer thinks of as fun may or may not suck for survivors, and the killer is not required to cripple themselves just so the opposing side has a good time. Hell, I usually play that way and I still got survivors complaining back when I left messages on.

The devs should design the game so that a killer plays to win, it's fun for survivors. Survivors play to win, it's fun for the killer. Players play to have fun. Players are not entertainers, they don't get paid to make sure others have a good time.

Oh believe me I agree with you 100%.

This is why I play to win rather than play for rank these days. Playing for rank, like you said, is a band-aid fix for poor design choices.

The ranking system for Killers should always have remained being based on kills and kills alone.

  • @malloymk said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802652#Comment_1802652

How many games out of 100 do you see 3 gens done in 80 seconds?

    1 or 2 maybe?

Again, games are meant to be fun for everyone. Thats not going to always happen. But do I need to have nights where maybe 1 game out of 5 is fun? Nah. And again that's on some of these killers that feel like they need their ego placated against a group of solos. Woo. Fun.

Very large gross understatement of how games typically go. Perhaps if you play in the green to brown ranks that's how it usually goes, but not in the purple to red ranks. Most games end in less than 4 minutes one way or the other.

Not sure why people assume Survivors playing solo has anything to do with their ability to gen rush, when it doesn't. I don't need to bring up the old "experiment" that was done by the death squad for people to know that high level Survivors, even without using comms or perks, can easily decimate some of the best Killers at the game.

I will always have more fun by facing a person that goes full throttle and tries their hardest to win, rather than intentionally lowering their power level because they want me to have fun too.

I don't need my hand held. And by the way, I play Survivor solo 90% of the time. I have 0 issues against Killers that try their hardest, and, in fact, have the most fun in those games. I don't have fun when someone intentionally tries to make sure I have fun. It feels disingenuous, and frankly, is an insult to my skill as a player.

  • @malloymk said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802636#Comment_1802636

The problem is that this is not a two equal teams situation. And if a killer chooses his fun over the other four players, you have fast games that are boring and frustrating for 80% of the players.

It doesn't matter whether or not the teams are even.

And you do know that if Survivors play super optimally, all gens are gonna be done in about 2 and a half minutes right? It takes 80 seconds to do a gen. In 80 seconds, the game is already halfway over if 3 people are on 3 different gens.

You might say it's the Killer's fault for not giving enough pressure. In the opposite case where the Killer wins in 2 minutes, I say it's the Survivors fault for being bad at escaping chases.

So your problem goes both ways. And I can tell you right now, most survivors do not care about the Killer's fun whatsoever.

  • @malloymk said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802620#Comment_1802620

Yep. Because I'm not a dick and know that it's a game. It should be fun for everyone not just me.

And there is the inherent dilemma. You are judging people based on how they play the game, when the reason people play games is to have fun.

Your fun is not my responsibility. It is yours. This is the inherent problem with games with two different teams, as I already stated.

Someone, somewhere, even if you play in the most "fair" way possible, is going to get butthurt and get mad at you. I've been playing online games for nearly 20 years at this point. It is always going to happen, whether you tryhard as much as you can, or you play by other people's arbitrary rules.

So you should just play in whatever way you find the most fun.

Playing within the rules of the game is the only stipulation I care about. Anything else is someone being salty, or hopping on a high horse.

  • @HeckaYeah said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802582#Comment_1802582

Doing gens and being chased is what this game is. We (the survivor) shouldn't be punished for playing. In a good run, I've seen when a gen is finished, killer downs. The second is finished and that survivor is downed. At that point ( if we are scatter brained) two are hooked and two are maybe doing gens (or I've seen PLENTY of locker hiding). Plenty of wham- bam- thank- you- ma'am's to go around. And I've seen when it's downs and no hooks (which is what this originally was referring to). I know that chasing and hooking gets dry. This wasn't to dig or get under anyone's skin. This was simply to look at ways that could continue the game without perks that some may not have access to.

I could say the same for Killers. They shouldn't be punished for merely existing, but they are. Slugging is a way for the Killer to regain control of the match.

Notice I said, "optimal play." Hiding in lockers is not optimal play. Optimal play is 3 Survivors on gens, with one looping and wasting time. Even if he gets hooked, the other survivors should finish their gens before going for a save. After all, the hook timer is longer than it takes to finish a gen.

FYI, I pretty much only play Survivor.

  • @malloymk said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802604#Comment_1802604

That's not entirely true though. I play red rank killer and definitely go out of my way to mix up targets, leave the hook, etc.

You don't have to play to win the game in the first two minutes of the match.

You doing that is your decision.

But I stand by my statement. It isn't your responsibility to do such things. You do it because you choose to do it.

  • @malloymk said:

Not justifying whatever was said, but this game is very boring when the games are trash and nobody can do anything. Killers proxy camping and running right back to the hook. Slugging with no gens done.

Judging by the scores that's probably what you did. It's fun for you, but not everyone else. But don't worry it's not just you. Many killers play like that.

That's the problem with games with two different teams. The other team's fun is not your responsibility.

    Only your own fun is.

  • @Zarr0ch said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802573#Comment_1802573

I think this might be you problem. They might get one gen early, but pressure them off them and pick the right perks.

If Survivors play super optimal, 3 gens are getting popped in 80 seconds and there isn't much you can really do about it.

You can only push off one survivor at a time. Which leaves 3 uncontested, and if you decide to break a chase to go and defend gens again, you still are leaving 3 people uncontested.

  • It would be kind of silly imo. He wouldn't be able to be nearly as powerful as he is in Prototype.

We're talking about a character than is like the equivalent of a biological nuclear bomb. He can wipe out an entire city in a matter of days just by himself, even the full might of the military can't stop him.

Why would you wanna play someone if they are gutted beyond belief in terms of what they are capable of?

Representation does not matter. This era/generation is literaly full of people demanding equality and recognition. Equinimity is what we should strive for. Representation and celebration of 'difference' or 'same' has no place in the world. It merely sparks people to feel entitled to attention and drama when they don't get spotlighted. It's the generation of PC and hypersensitive hypocrits.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802311#Comment_1802311

It is a choice. Growing to understand attraction, growing as an individual, growing to desire to want to be a different gender is all choice. Just like choosing to be labelled as something that makes zero sense is a choice. This is why it is an agenda, because the community swarms together to push it on people, to 'raise awareness' to something that honestly doesn't even concern the majority. What someone does with their own life is their business. Unfortunatly, in the age of social media, everyone wants to be involved in everything and everyone. It is delusional to think representation matters, purely because it, honest to god, does not concern anyone elses business but the individual. I may want a character that looks like my body type, or my skin type, but it isn't important, and it is in exactly the same vein as this topic. Sexuality of characters does not matter in a game where that particular aspect is never gonna be explored or expanded on.

I'm gonna have to hard disagree that sexuality is a choice and agree with @Orion example, although I use spaghetti instead.

You don't choose to like a particular food, in this case, spaghetti. It's a chemical impulse in your brain that tells you "hey, that tastes pretty good." You didn't choose to enjoy it, your biological system told you that you enjoyed it.

The same goes for physical attraction in another person, whether they be of the same gender or not. If I look at a dude and think he's hot, I didn't choose to think that way, that's how my brain responds to seeing a hot dude. It's the same exact reason why art is subjective to each person.

I'm not gonna address the representation portion of your argument because while I think it is important, it isn't important to me as a person, so I understand your sentiments here.

But saying these things are a choice is just laughably wrong to me.

  • The new report system is pretty lackluster.

I think I got someone temporarily banned a few years back for asking to fight me IRL because he didn't like that I beat him in the game. He mentioned that he was 5'8" and weighed 235 pounds, attempting to intimidate me, as well as giving me his address.

Not only did this not intimidate me (as I am 6'2" 208 pounds) it gave me enough evidence that he was essentially physically threatening me. I just messaged one of the mods on Steam at the time and that was enough to get the job done, but that can't be done anymore I guess.

  • I literally said representation is important lol

It's important overall in the grand scheme of things, but to me, personally, I don't play games to be represented, so it doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

As long as something isn't outright insulting the LGBT community, races, or medical ailments, then I'm typically OK with it.

I play games because I like the game in particular. Overwatch, for example, has a wide range of representation in it and it is commendable that it does that. But for me, it isn't going to change which characters I pick or my enjoyment of the game one way or the other. It's just not what I look for in a game. I look for gameplay first and foremost. Anything else is secondary to that, and as long as it is written well, I will usually enjoy it.

And that's the main thing for me. It needs to be WRITTEN WELL.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1802340#Comment_1802340

It might be not as important to you but i bet there are people that would deeply appreciate some kind of representation (if it's done well of course).

There are definetely a LOT of people that pick character becaise they can relate to them

I don't disagree with you nor did I suggest otherwise.

I'm just giving you my opinion on these matters.

It would be wonderful to have confirmed LGBTQ+ representation, but for now, I think it's nice to imagine them and build a story for characters that we feel attached to! Have fun with it :)!

This is a great contrast to what I was saying. I choose to play Meg cause I think she's a badass, despite the fact I'm a male. I play games to be someone I'm not, the opposite of representation.

  • It's a game problem. You give players the tools to do something, they're going to do it. It's called dominant strategy.

Expecting people to play by rules of "honor" in a game is pretty childish imo. If something is allowed in the game it should be used.

This brings the fundamental issue to light: Survivors have it too easy. That's the main issue and will always be the issue. Always has been, always will be.

i would normally agree, but DbD has a pretty big lore section that gets expanded even more with the tomes etc. and we already have several heterosexual relationships mentioned here.

so including LGBT+ topics at this point is just natural or otherwise it would be exclusion..

it will also never effect the gameplay in any way, there will never be a daring feature in the fog..

Like I said, it wouldn't matter to me at the end of the day either way.

I just personally don't require representation, that's not why I play video games and I don't look for it in games either.

Sure, it would be cool if they did. Gay, bi and trans people exist in real life so they would in fiction as well. It just doesn't bother me one way or the other.
