I am a survivor main, and i encounter killers that go out of their way to not tunnel (after i run into them by accident after being unhooked, for example), and that is really good sportsmanship, to me.
However, a lot of my fellow survivors (i play only solo for some time now) are really toxic if the killer goes easy on them. I had games where very fair killers were shamed afterwards by my teammates, even though the game had easily been turned into a 2 of 3k if the killer had decided to play sweaty. I call them out for it, of course, but i can see why killers stop doing that.
Too many people only play one side of this game and forget that the other party are their play partners, not a bot and not their enemy.

Well, a good thing to do is keeping some personal statistics about your game. Doesnt have to be much, more like how many kills/escapes per game, maybe how many gens/hooks are done.
Then, you can see how close or far away from the target (2k 2e) your games are, thus determining if matchmaking works for you or not.

First few times I have ever played a new Killer, Twins.
Funny thing though, every killer has his own rating. If you play a killer you are new to, you are in the lower skill ranks with it.
So either your perception is tainted, or matchmaking doesn´t work as intended.

i had games where the killers only hexperks were undying und noed.

Well the idea is not to focus on the rank, if you want feedback then focus on how the match went and not if you're ranking up. When you know the ranking it's quite easy to abuse it so I dont blame them, everyone should play for fun not to hit a high rank sorta thing.
Then again I feel like I'm the only one who wants MMR lol
The thing is, if i end up in several games where only one other survivor is doing gens, and the other 2 just run around, why did i end up there?
I prefer to play stealthy, but i usually end up with the highest points (including killer) because i just do it all, gens, hook saves, totems, but chases only if the killer finds me (depending on the teammates i might also take over if one is in trouble).
But if i end up with people that don´t play constructive, there might be an unhealty focus on chases. I know for a part of the playerbase that is what the game revolves around, but thats is not true for all of us.
That being said, this reflects a previous experience and just shows why a little insight in how things work might help balancing different aspects of the game.
The last games i played were fine.

Yes. The RE chapter really showed the cracks in the game's foundation.
In my opinion, they made enough cash to rewrite this game. I don't mind if they keep pumping out cosmetics in the meantime to get some extra cash to make the rewritten game, since I don't buy them anyway.
So, since you seem to have the numbers, now much money did they make with the game so far?

a map containing non-euclidiean space would be nice, and very eldritch.

If it is fnaf, you just have to prepare for the flood of tears when springtrap is just a normal killer and not oppressive. The reaction to nemesis already showed us.

With SBMM you will be matched with survivors at your skill level.
Please remember that Ranks a very small indicator of current skill levels, and is more an indicator of time put in. You can have a Rank 13 who's amazing at the game and better than someone at Rank 1 - they just don't play that often for example.
@Lord_Tony said:
killers that aren't nurse and spirit take advantage of solos and low skilled survivors because those killers are not strong enough to handle swf
but now sbmm exists the only survivors you'll get are competent ones this is just forcing us to only play nurse or spirit now,
all other killers need to be on the same level as nurse and spirit if this update is going to happen
Isnt one of the points that each killer has an individuall mmr-rating? So basicly if a killer comes to a skill level where he is capped, he shouldn´t rise higher but stay there?
Also, while you can have an amazing Rank 13 that doesnt play often, you can also have a potatoe who doesnt play that often. In red ranks, however, you can be sure that you have people that either know the game for playing it much or that have some decent skill, and if you are lucky, both.

This is just my assumption but any High Rank or High Skilled player will never want MMR here in DBD as me and my friends who joins competitive DBD tournaments knows best that High Skill Trials are either gonna be Spirit/Nurse/Blight (Ruin+Undying+Corrupt+BBQ&Chili) vs 4 Man Seal Team Friends (Equipped with the best items with Add Ons).
My Survivor Friends(also joins competitively) don't want to play against Spirit, Nurse and Blight every game in the future while my Killer friends will agree that to stay on high rank you'll need to play these 3 Killers.
I'm noticing that most people that wants the MMR are people that complains about how bad their teammates are or How they want to to know a Killer without getting bullied. My assumption is anyone who wants MMR just wants the game to be carried for them. Maybe as a Survivor before complaining how your teammates are bad, maybe look at how you play first?
I 100% guarantee here that no high skill player want an MMR system here.
Surly no high skilled player wants the mmr. Because without mmr, there are two possibilitys: first, they get a match vs an equal skilled opponent, which is basicly the same as people expect from mmr.
However, if not, they usually get a less skilled opponent, turning the game in their favor from the beginning, as they are being carried by the bad matchmaking.
Yes, i know a lot of high skilled players dont want that gone, because bullying an equal skilled opponent is much harder.

Lately it happens in every single match and I just don't want to play anymore. Solo queue or with friends it's so unfun and to everyone who says "Well just play killer", I do and I can only do that so many matches before I don't have fun anymore because that gets lonely lol
To those who say "Get good lol" I can't when I'm found first and get downed and then camped the whole match. That's what really gets me down is I can't even practice getting better at looping. This happens 9/10 matches in Red, Purple and Green ranks (I'm purple myself).
I guess this is just a rant but idk. How do some of you deal with it? Is it smart to DC or ######### on hook? Usually when I give up I close the game and play something else because it's just not fun and that's not even to mention the amount of incredible toxicity I put up with on both sides. It's also why I go weeks without playing this game at times because it's more upsetting than it is fun.
I just don't get it.
Well, if you give up while on the hook you just encourage this behaviour in the next game, because the killer not only got you save, he got you also fast, so he can go on after the next survivor, making it not only a viable, but a good strategy.
If you just hang on and maximize your time on the hook, the killer will most likly only get that one kill, and if it happens often enough to him, might decide another strategy is more promising.

Because they are stupid. You have to learn the map layout, and its way better to do that when it is still a maze for most killers, rather than they know the map and you don´t. But my games on this map get better every time i get it.

Yep, not Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer, not Stridor-Spirit, Lightborn. I got a lobby of 4 flashlights and as I hate dealing with more than one at a time, I brought Lightborn, Starstruck, Infectious Fright, Agitation.
They were stubbornly trying to blind me again and again, didn't take a hint that they were exposed, and the game didn't go too well for them, they died.
After the match, one of them was very salty because of it, said that Lightborn is such a dumb perk and I can't play because I chose to run it. Obviously I broke some unknown rule that survivors are entitled to have their flashlight fun if they so choose.
As a survivor main, i beg to differ. You didnt break an unknown survivor rule, you broke the well known stupid survivors rule: Killer are not allowed to have fun or a fair game. They are a subpart of the survivor group, but in no way the same.

I can tell this is just gonna be the "Slenderman in Dead by Daylight" Discussion all over it again with back and forth comments, so just gonna make a final statement and move on cause not gonna get involved with this again.
I also include everyone that mentions Candyman in any discussion of who the next killer is going to be. Even though there is not many discussions about Candyman as much as Springtrap there is just as many comments about Candyman that matches the amount of discussions about Springtrap.
Springtrap might have fake hype but Candyman also has the same thought of "It's gonna be him this time".
Also I am not trying to "Both sides" IT IS both sides due to same amount of spam both of them get.
Candyman is just gonna keep being mentioned until he is ingame just like Springtrap so no point on arguing about it on "Who has the real Hype"
That's my statement and leaving at that.
Well, let me say this: I care for about Springtrap or Candyman being in DBD or not (i never played FnaF, and while i saw the first Candyman movie, i really didn´t think of it as iconic). However, the threads and posts i see about Candyman are in no way near the amount of threads i see for springtrap, which get so annoying that i dont want him in the game because of the picture i get about his supporters, and thus, indirectly, springtrap.
And thats the statement and perception of someone not really involved in the discussion, unlike you.

Well why wont they make it so if the killer stays near the hook (before last gen is done) for too long the entity stuns him for like 15-20 seconds so there is some kinda opportinity to save from facecampping bubba?
The same reason for not stunning survivors for 15-20 seconds if they are on a gen too long so the killer have the opportunity to save the gen from being completed. It would be unbalanced for one side to fix a game mechanic considered working as intended.
-
But they should seperate swf from solo queue and balance both modes seperatly, because otherwise this game will never be balanced. SWF do have an advantage that needs to be balanced out for killers.#
But it will never happen, thats why this game will keep rebalancing, so some times killers are up (even against swf), and sometimes they are down so solos can still play.

Simple. If the killer tunnels, they remove 25% of their opponents as soon as possible. That makes things significantly easier for them.
Thats simply true. However, if you dont like that playstyle, you shouldn´t do it, because it screws the numbers the dev uses to watch their game balance.
If the kill rate with tunneling is high enough (or too high), future balance changes might not be the one that allow for a more relaxed game, but might make tunneling a requierement to keep up at all.
At the moment its just the lazy way for killer, but it might become the only way.

The only time I see this happening is to Claudettes with Iron Will that will unhook then disappear, leaving the unhookee out in the open. They then proceed to try and NOT interact with the killer for the entire match and say they were doing "objective".
Those types of players are huge detriments to their team, playing cowardly and hiding, when you havent been hooked once, and everyone else is on death hook is a huge determent to your team.
Yeah, i am that Claudette. But let me tell you this:
if i unhook you, and i run away, thats because the killer has already shown he comes back to the hook as soon as you unhook. If you stay and selfcare under the hook, its your fault. If the killer comes back too fast, i will tank that hit for you and distract him, but staying there waiting for him is your choice.
Also, i got numberous games where i took hits for teammates because i was unhooked and they were on deadhook. And what should i tell you, i distract the killer, get hooked, and die on my first hook, because noone unhookes me, even if the killer doesnt camp.
But i learn, so i just stopped doing that. I dont care for my teammates anymore, because they dont care about me.
But that might be a regional thing, because a lot of those players are russians, and they seem to play different from other (european) players.
So, give me a good reason why i should change that behaviour. Why should i take a hit for a survivor that is just too stuborn to hide from a returnig killer? Why should i sacrifice myself for people that won´t save me even if there is no risk in doing so? I am very interested in your answers.

Exactly. If someone doesn’t want to play a match a 5 minute penalty won’t make them play it and even if they stay they’ll just throw or go afk
On the other hand, if your system crashes you need that 5 minutes to reboot and reconnect, so it doesnt matter then, either.

Also maybe to i guess your standards but a win to me is 4k
So, if even one survivor escapes its a loss to you?
To me, 0 and 1 kill is a loss, 2 k are a draw (which is the balance idea of the devs) and 3+k are a win. And usually i dont slug for hatch, i just kill the 3rd and race the last one.
Its interesting that the idea for a balanced match by the devs is a 2k 2 escape match. That means you, by your own metric, can only win consistantly if you are being carried heavily by the bad matchmaking that matches you against way weaker survivors. Interesting how dependend killers become to the flaws of the game.
-
Ok, how do the key make you win? If all 4 get out, they need to do 5 gens for the hatch to spawn, how is it a one-click-win?
And if only one gets out, and you have a 3k, how is it a win for survivor at all?
I actually dont understand what you are talking about. A key doesnt win you games for one click.

The people that used it to cheat, so the people that were using it to sweat. Or the competitve people, since they already stretch res to high hell + filter their game beyong recognition, so it wouldn't shock me.
You are aware that an implication is not an equivalence, right?
-
Because i play mostly survivor, and need bloodpoints for nothing. 1 have 4 survivors at p3 with all perks at 3, and usually i dont bring items into the match, because i only play solo and you can never depend on your teammates anyway, so bringing them is usually a waste of time. so why should i bring a cake to give me points i dont need at the moment? I use my cakes when the next killer/survivor comes out to level him and then level the other chars for their perks.
Also, if everyone else is bringing a cake, killers tend to play more scummy than usually, and if you happen to be the target you get next to no points anyway. Better spread those bonus bp over several games when not everyone is bringing cakes.

Primarily addressing killers for the "what would you do here" question. This killer decided to go along with it and let them farm me.
BTW, this was the very start of the game and I had never even seen the other survivors or killer until they body blocked and then t-bagged me, so absolutely unprovoked. SO frustrating and demotivating...🙃
Well, i had a game yesterday where i played vs huntress, and he was quite good, but the game was very balanced. I was in a chase with him several times, but could always escape, while he hooked everyone else 1 time. 1 gen was left, and he downed 2, hooked them, downed the next that tried to rescue one (mind you, he wasnt even camping, they just rushed to the hooks), and hooked him. Meanwhile, i unhooked the other one, then hide to go for the next save when the killer leaves.
But then the survivor i just unhooked trapped me next to a wall for no reason. There was a vault but i couldn´t use it because the other guy was kind of standing there as well, i could not leave because he had trapped me, and i couldnt even heal him. And he just let the guys on hook die and waited for the killer to come over to us.
The killer downed me, killed the other guy, and gave me the hatch. It was quite clear that the game was fair up to that point, and he had seen what the other survior did. So, there are both kinds of killers, those who just take advantage, and those that don´t.
The thing you experienced seems to me like a toxic swf, that just beat on their random teammates. take a video and report them.

It's the best strategy , it works and often leads to super altruistic teammates. It's not like any one expects survivors to ignore a hex or ignore a gen. We also don't expect survivors to make it fun for killers so I don't see why it matters if someone dies early.
The main question is: do you like to tunnel? If you do, everything is fine.
If you dont like it, then you shouldn´t, for 2 main reasons.
The first reason is a little survivor sided, because its the old "tunneling (and camping) arent fun"-reason.
The second is way more important for you as killer, IF you dont like the camping and tunneling gamestyle.
Since the devs base a lot of their descicions on the statistics they get through the game, you want them to have clear statistics.
Tunneling and camping can lead to kills you otherwise would not have made, thus tainting these statistics, because it makes killers look better than they are, even though they just got their kills through tunneling in camping.
The more kills you get through those tactics, the more you tip the balance to the killer side, telling the devs killers are fine, gen times are fine, and so forth. So they don´t need to change anything.
If you dont like tunneling in camping, you shouldn´t do it. Your performance as a killer might go down, but it might then point to balance changes, that might again allow for other successful play styles.
That might be a reason keys are not changed yet, if escape rates are comparable low, but get pushed by keys (which as far as i know only contribute to 3% of escapes anyway) to look like balanced, there is no reason to change keys. (thats why keys screw the survivor side of the equation.)

I guess I could see Lobby Dodging. Only way to counteract that is to add a penalty time for leaving lobby's.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2357666#Comment_2357666
I mean I guess from a non sweat standpoint I might just ask the lobby if they are trying something out or have another perk etc etc. I guess it doesn't matter too much in the end. Just would be nice. I might not run a perk that doesn't stack with the rest of the group. At the end of the day SWF will always trump solo survivors and this would be a way for solo survivors to at least have some knowledge of the players they are dealing with on their team.
So, if i am in a lobby, and my daughter wakes up, you rather want me to be afk in your game instead of leaving that lobby? Because i am going to take care of my daughter anyway, but depending on the length of the lobby penalty and whatever or not it is stackable i am sure just stay in.
Just want to be clear that this is the solution you are looking for.

Ran a Nemesis through an entire match without a single hit or infection. It got to a point he ignored me and allowed me to do 4 totems. Including ruin instantly, Devour after his first hit with it, And 2 dulls.
His zombies got most of his downs and camped hooks. But i took chase long enough for Claudette to finish a gen and die.
At this point he closes hatch and still hasn't hit me. And gates are far. So i pop one open right as he reaches me, practically guaranteeing my escape and boom. Extra 4% speed and insta down. Gate was open, i was full health, never hit the entire game in 5 different chases, destroyed 2 of his perks and hard carried randoms... But he gets rewarded for playing badly and decided to slug me shaking his head for the bleedout timer after carrying me away from the gate.
You bet i just left the game and got lunch lol.
I love when someone plays badly, can't even hit me the whole game and gets the pity kill from an unhealthy crutch perk. NoED is just brutal in Soloq. "Just do bones" is hard solo when teammates die in 5 seconds and don't do gens. The nemesis player was having a bad game vs me and got an undeserved kill when my escape should have been guaranteed. The better player should always win. As an advocate of fun DbD over comp/sweaty dbd. I feel noed creates bad habits and hinders newer players from being better, this guy clearly was carried by noed.
Sorry for the rant. My experience on both sides during the event is awful. I kinda hate events because the sweat and toxicity they bring.
I just think noed, like self care and urban can create bad habits and hinder newer players from getting better, while making solo even less fun.
So, what you are saying is, that you got carried by the bad matchmaking, (because you clearly outskilled the killer and should not have played against him in the first place), and are now angry because he still got you because your teammates were unable to do even 1 single totem, while you did 4...I see a lot of issues there, but noed isn´t one, matchmaking is.

A functional emblem system that takes into account various advantages and disadvantages and throws them in the players faces.
It can be quite a humbling experience when the game tells you that you actually were playing on "easy" mode.
Thats why aimbots in shooters exist, because people like to humble themself? I am not sure that reasoning is valid.

Okay I have soo many matches where players aren't even burning offerings... I mean this is the best time to use your cakes while the event is live and most people have them. Saving them for later won't make them as effective. Just spreading them out is useless
Thats simply not true. The bonus is additive, so it doesnt matter if you get +100% BP now or somewhen else.
However, a lot of killers dont care about the other players, and tunnel and camp more than usually (to make the game easier for themself and thus getting more bp potentially), increasing the chance that you leave the game with few bp anyway, not making it worth a cake.
So no, its usually best to keep your cakes for now and spread the Bonus BP, because you never know before which games are worth your cake anyway.

-
It depends on the killer, but if i have the time (aka the killer isnt just tunneling and camping) i usual hunt down all totems, open chests, and work a little on gens.
In a chase, i usually dont loop too much in one tile, and try to juke the killer (i like that better when i play killer than just running in circles around obstacles). I seldom bodyblock (unless he is tunneling or in a chase with someone on death hook, but then i try to switch places, not just annoy the killer), and i see no value in running around with a flashlight (but i will do pallet saves if i can).
I think this is taking it easy, but for some, even that might be toxic. Oh, and i NEVER teabagg, because i belive thats just an insult.

Well, like i said, it can only be used at the start of a chase, or the survivor has to 99 it and then has to hold shift or they ready it. Additionally they have a downside of being slower moving around the map without using it. If i see someone use it, i can break off the chase and go chase someone else. Then if i see them go back to the gen, i can go right back to it and now they no longer have it. I can also try and cut them off depending on where they are and the shape of the map, they might not have any great places to run to.
Countless times i run to a gen with someone who has sprintburst and they do 1 of 2 things:
- They immediately run with sprint burst
- They wait and slowly walk until i get close and then sprint burst.
If they do the first, i just fake walking away.
But you can also just walk away if someone used dh for distance. Somehow, that doesnt seem like counterplay to me.

But i guess noone will ask you. I play only solo, and they tunnel so often, there is no point in asking why, because the answer is in most cases: winning. Yours might be different, but it doesnt matter if you tunnel someone because he has a key, teabaggs, or has a pride charm, or plays a certain character, or just to win. The result is the same, and the reasons exchangable.

In my solo games, the last 2 survivors usually dont attempt to do gens, and playing immersed, waiting for the other one to die and the killer searching for one, can take 10+ minutes.
You see there is no point the game continue when there is only 2 survivors left because impossible to do gens anyway, so why waste time?
I can imagine for the killer not much fun to find the last 2 immersed player in the end.
Of course sometimes one of us giving up because of boredom, but dont forget this is a flaw that can be exploited, immersed way you can waste so much time, waiting for other to die
But thats on the killer, i find myself soo often in the situation where are only me and another survivor is left, and i get found because i do gens, and the killer just hooks me and let the other one escape.
Some then claim in endgame chat that they would rather go for the other one and let me go, but couldnt find him and wanted it to end. And this happens most of the time.
So, killers just encourage hidding, because the guy who doesnt is the guy who dies.

How many god-level SWF's did you actually go against?. SWF is pretty common at red ranks, yes. But most of the SWF's are chill and they are not really good. I dont understand why you take this game and SWF too seriously. If you lose, just give a cheers to your opponent and move on. I think you exaggerate the power of SWF. As i said you dont go against a good SWF too often. You cant win every match, accept it.
As for the keys, i dont think key escapes happen often. And i know even though you complain about the keys you bring it at least once. If you hate keys SO much just bring franklins, its not that hard.
The things you should complain about are Spirit, Nurse, Ruin + Undying, Wraith and OP Myers addons. Killer is the power role in this game if you know how to play it.
Dear killers, if you expect to win every match, just play with bots with the new update.
The thing is, the swf doesnt have to be god-level. The individual player just need to be at my skill level, and then swf will push them far beyond my capabilitys of winning vs them.
If they are above my skill level, swf just make this more pronounced, but doesn´t change the great outcome, but might still rob you of one or two kills you might have gotten.
If they are below my skill level, swf can rise them up to my level and make a good game, unless they are too far below my skill level, when this wont help at all.
Do you think matchmaking is trying to give me swf slightly below my skill level?
And keys? Yes, i think they are too focused on them, because key escape makes about 3% of all escapes. Thats quite ok i think.

No, the post was about how much easier it is for killers to get. Have you tried all adept killers in red ranks, it's a lot more difficult than surviving a trial.
The time limit is long enough to get them on all survivors. I am sure people can survive two or three times per day even if only by hatch camping.
Why would you try the adept killers in red ranks? Deranking is a thing in this game, so you dont have to.

I set my profile to private after someone that was upset about losing to me started to try ruin other games i play. He just took my steamname, searched for my matches, joined and started sabotaging me...
Yeah, thats definitly enough.

I would like to refer to this Thread: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/262505/what-is-the-point-of-those-farming-offering-if-you-are-getting-matched-vs-tryhard-killers#latest
Thats exactly my experience. I stopped bringing cake, because every game you bring one the killer trys to create a non-game by just tunneling hard.

As a solo survivor, i often dont even know someone has a key until after the game. So wouldn´t work with me.

Define malicious.
A dictionary did it for you. Also, i notice you havn´t answered my question for you.
You seem to be very intrerested in getting a hard definition to what is allowed so you can exploit that. That is not needed. In the end, player will report you (or others) and support will decide, even if there is no hard definition of whats allowed and what not. If you show such behaviour, live with the risk.

It's not good that killers had to rely on one specific perk to control the pace of the game, so the change to Ruin was needed, but of course something more needs to be done to the base game to make gen speeds a bit more bearable, without making it painful for survivors.
An additional objective that's required to complete before you can repair a gen would be good.
I dont get your point. Yes, relying on a perk is bad, but the perk was just changed, and nothing was put in its place. The ability to control the pace was just reduced. Thats why games get way faster now (and thats not a good think, in my opinion)
