For some reason, I feel no reason to play the game anymore after that.

I feel like I've accomplished all I wanted to accomplish in this game despite knowing there's a lot more I could do. I don't know why, but getting Bloodpoints is no longer as satisfying as getting Rift XP.

I'm not asking for the Rift to be made longer or more grindier of course, however I do feel like my only reason for playing this game lately is to finish the Rift. And now that it's all done I don't know what to do with the game.

Maybe you're burnt out? I know when I finished the rift, I put in a total of 180 hours of hard grind to get to tier 71 and to finish up to Tome 3. Tome 1 and 2 were fun and I finished Tome 3 before the change and it was bullshit. Haha.

This is the most chunk of time I've put into DBD in over a year and while I had fun for a good portion of this Rift, I can sympathize with you.

  • Just wanted to start off by saying that I enjoy the new content more than I dislike it, so I'm still fine with everything as a whole. However, what I really dislike is how the challenges and achievement (Bodyguard) are making players play. A lot of games are thrown because a lot of people are trying to do them and the skill of solo queue players aren't good enough to mitigate the time needed it takes to do some of them. This is especially true for me in the off-hours.

It's also very easy for me with testing the killer powers, like for Legion, Nurse, and Spirit. They still feel too easy, at least with Nurse and Spirit but I think part of that is because of the new content, and how the survivors play. I've only played a few games with the Legion and I'm getting similar results, but even then, I don't know if it's because they're screwing around with challenges or not. As a matter of fact, killing in general is overall more easy since the Rift and that's not right. However, it is a casual experience, so maybe it is?

My suggestion is that if BHVR wants to add a new mechanic to the game to adjust the balance, don't do it through the Rift or challenges, or if they do, create them in a way that doesn't disrupt normal gameplay.

  • I played 2 games with her tonight with no addons. The only thing I noticed differently was her post-phase which I feel I can get used to. Her base power is still very strong and I imagine once people stop playing Oni and go back to Spirit, the complaints will return.

  • Too soon to say, especially with the PTB adjustments. In PTB, Oni was godly. Right now, I've only been doing achievements and his was one of the harder ones for me to get at red ranks. Took me about 8 games but at least now I can start prestiging him and put a proper build on him. He's still fun because survivors as well as killers are trying to learn him.

Re: achievements, what's up with Bodyguard and its 30 protection hit goal? People are throwing games to get this.

Better? Yea sure, especially when all they want Is to only release dlcs and keep ignoring the game health, there are no testers in this game, we are the tester, playing a broken ptb and see all the bugs coming in live server anyway, but yea a new killer and survivor are more important when the main issues are still there.

Well I don't know what you're referring to as game health. Game balance is better than it's ever been. Were you here a year ago? 2 years ago? 3? Game balance has gotten better every year. I'm not going to say DBD is without its problems because I have gripes of my own, but they're fixing things at a pace that's at least 75% to my liking.

And yeah, I'm for them releasing new content as opposed to fixing the rest of the issues like survivor perk stacking and overperforming killers because that type of fixing will ALWAYS be needed as long as new content keeps coming out. There is no way they will stop coming out with new content because that is what keeps BHVR afloat. No DLC, no income, no BHVR. That's how their business model works.

Anyway, they will get to the big problems just like any gaming company, but it takes time. That's why I told the OP to come back after a while.

  • Just take a break and come back in 6 months. Nothing worse than saying you're quitting, then you come back in a week even more upset than before when you know for damn sure that nothing has changed in that time. The game changes all the time and it's in far better shape than it was a year ago. Give it time.

  • "We've heard you loud and clear: We will be adjusting the difficulty of some challenges in Level 3 of the Tome. Keep an eye out tomorrow for full details!"

Curious to see what they're going to do.

  • @SupaSlay3r20 said:

Most people complained about how the first time was too easy and how they blew through it in a day and a half. Now people are complaining that the challenges are much more of a grind that they will have to go out of their way to achieve. I'll agree that some of the challenges, especially the egc ones, are bs, but none of them are impossible.

I think that if they removed or changed the EGC/luck-based challenges, a lot of the complaints would disappear.

Another complaint I'm hearing is that people are seeing a lot of the same builds over and over again. The person doing it is seeing it as an achievable grind, sure, but the person going against it for multiple games in a row can get burnt out. I can see that. I think instead, they could add challenges equal to that difficulty, but just add more of them while lowering the requirement, and also, rewards.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/107965/these-challanges-are-mad

Yeah that's just gross. It needs SO MANY things to go your way, it's basically impossible as a solo survivor.

I wouldn't call it impossible, but it is extremely luck-based. Judging from the complaints, these types of challenges could use a tweak to take the RNG element out.

  • @Superstar_Saga95 said:

All right so I was playing Custom matches with some friends, and I am fairly new to this game, but I know the mechanics well enough. And while I was playing, Whenever the killer would be near I would throw the pallet to stun them. Most of the time it would hit, but they said I was wasting them. I thought the whole time that was supposed to be the point, you stun the killer, they chase you, and your fellow survivors were supposed to do gens. Could someone explain to me what I'm supposed to do with the pallets then and to try not to waste them.

They're telling you that because you have a limited amount of pallets you can use. Also, there are safe and unsafe pallets. Depending on which type you get, you can drop it right away and go to the next one, or you can stay there for a while because it's "safe". The killer has a choice to break it or try to mindgame it which will waste a lot of his time if he tries doing that to a safe pallet. Sometimes, he'll eventually catch up if he gets bloodlust or if the loop you're at is halfway between safe and unsafe, but either way, always have an escape route because you'll eventually need to move on.

Once you get good, you won't need to drop every pallet you come across, sometimes, the RNG is so good that you can skip every other one, which makes it good for the next survivor that needs some protection. If you play long enough, you'll be able to identify these areas, and it also helps knowing this if you play killer too because it's that type of info that tells you when to break chase because the area is too strong.

You should really watch some survivor videos on Twitch or Youtube to get a better understanding, then try it out with your friends.

Not to mention that they said that these challenges are supposed to be meant for """"average player""""

I know I heard about this but I don't remember where. Was this on a post or stream? I don't have a problem with the challenges being difficult because I'm confident I'll hit tier 70 in 41 days, but at the same time, I don't consider myself casual, or average.

If they really did say it's meant for the average player, then they need to re-evaluate the difficulty level. It might be better to give the option to do grindy type of challenges that at least seem achievable. BHVR might be overestimating the time average players are willing to dedicate, especially if it seems unachievable. Then again, I don't know what kind of behind-the-scenes numbers there are- maybe I'm the one underestimating the average player.

Actually this is one of my main issues with Plauge myself. Today I spent all day playing her and only once I got 2 pip and that game took more then 30 mins and was me just making sure every survivor was having the worse time of their life. I got lots of brutal and ruthless despite killing everyone or 3 of them with all gens unfinished. That's one reason why I mained Spirit for the longest time because Plauge didn't get results despite doing what every other killer does but doesn't get the same reward of ranking up. I seriously think there needs to be more points rewarded.

This is my problem with her. I think she's a strong killer even if survivors don't cleanse, but the issue is that the games take too long and the BP gain sucks for the effort you have to put in. I wouldn't say my games go on for 30 minutes, but they're longer than usual for sure. It's just not worth it if I can get as much BP in almost half the time by playing another killer like Billy.

  • His early game sucks and he's just like any other killer but his mid/late game is very good. I think overall he's at least as strong as Billy and I have a feeling that people that aren't great with Billy but still do well with him will do better with Oni.

If he stays the same, I think he will overperform as more people adjust to him. His flick was insane and you can stay powered up for quite a while. I think he can still be beat if people play immersed, but that's like with the Spirit and you know how that's going. :D

    This is the problem tho

Being FORCED to use a green and yellow addon every single game just to have a chance against basic survivors.

Balancing killers around addons that they will not have every game, and making them an easy pushover without the best specific addons, is wrong.

Well I'm not being forced-- I did fine without add-ons too. The ones I referenced just made the games much easier. I was responding to Eleghost because they talked about how recovery add-ons made her the same as before the nerf, and I wanted to mention my experience so that people having difficulty could give'm a try for better results.

Base nurse is different, but she's hardly a pushover-- not with me anyway.

  • @luka2211 said:

Balanced Landing has been the way it has been for a long time, I don't see why all of a sudden it's a huge problem. I figure that's "meeting half way" anyways.

I think they're changing BL because that's easier to fix than whole maps and the RNG of windows that made some structures complete bullshit if the survivor knew how to run it right.

  • @Eleghost said:

It's different but if you use an addon for recovery speed on her blinks she's basically the same as before the nerf. At least from what i've found it's a bit better. My feelings on it are i don't like the blinks having to recharge but it's not super bad.

Fragile Wheeze/Dark Cincture or any combination of that and Ataxic or CBT is where it's at and gave me very good results-- I won almost all of the games I played last night and tonight. I did get a 0k and that was because I brought myself to Lery's and used Anxious Gasp and Bad Man Keepsake, then went all-in with the slugs because I wanted to gamble against a guaranteed 2k. Range add-ons seemed good as well.

The biggest issue I had was with some dedicated server BS and a couple times when I couldn't use my 2nd blink. Not sure what that was about. At least the warping is gone.

I won't argue with someone that says she's not as fun as before, but she's still feels like the best killer to me.

It should, but you definitely turned into a discussion that distracted from the topic at hand... After arguing with a person who didn't even make the original comment >>`

I made a comment on your response because it really wasn't needed in the first place. So what, I can put an Off-topic in front of my post to slight someone or devalue the topic and it's ok? Hmmm.

And, who was arguing? Hahah-- I simply responded to someone that responded to me. How about we just leave it at that so there will be no more distraction to be had. No need to lock no need to fuss. Movin' on.

  • Everything finished and at tier 48.1. Minus 10.5, which is where I started, and I have earned 37.6 tiers from Tome 1 & 2, plus playtime XP.

On a side note, it seems like I'll be able to hit tier 70 before the Rift ends. However, I'm already over 70 hours since the beginning of the month and have been playing more than usual.

  • I see. I guess that's one way to distract from the topic.

He's got a point though. People are blowing this Spirit controversy way out of proportion. Im not saying she doesn't need some changes, but damn yall need to learn how to counter her (which does exist)

What point, that he doesn't want people to talk about the Spirit when it bothers them? Oh come on now.

I'm not even going to get into a counter does/doesn't exist with the Spirit because that will go on forever.

  • @StarMoral said:

Off topic, but I can't be the only one who thinks Scott is milkin the whole Spirit controversy a little bit.

Well I'm glad that he is. I don't have any desire to test things like this and do videos so watching it can be enlightening for others and a confirmation for me, especially when it lines up with my experience.

And it's a good thing people do milk controversies, otherwise we wouldn't have had great content like depip squads or D-strike/BNP concerns, right?

Are you trying to discredit him and the discussion or something? Please.

Removing the hook smacking removed the survivors hitbox on the hook. It's now just an object. But since this game has AimAssist, it automatically locks on the survivor behind the hook. It was never a thing before.

I know I've chainsawed people on the hook while the other person saved so they both escape. This was maybe last night or the night before. I guess I could have hit something else but I doubt it. I've also gone through the hooked survivor too, so that's why I responded the way I did. Maybe someone can test it in a KYF to see if it happens consistently.

  • It's hit or miss whether you or the other person gets hit. I'm not sure if hook smacking had anything to do with it.

I miss it, but for another reason- I like hitting people on hook sometimes.

  • In a sense, maybe. I like to do a lot of things and not just stay on gens. I want to go make some risky plays, get some totem bloodpoints, grab some loot.. do as much as I can and I usually rank up from that. I don't know the numbers or rules of the emblem system and I don't check the endscreen to see how I can do better because, it's just not worth it since I get to 1 well before the end of the month anyway. I'm already at rank 4 as survivor and 6 with killer, because of the tome.

2k/2e for fun? That's the way it should be if the game wants to remain popular with the majority of players. Not sure what you mean here.

You need to calm down and realize at the end of the day, it's just a video game.

    You're not going to die.

If I'm a killer and someone goes AFK during the whole round, that team will not live. It's really unfair to them. If they get reported, nothing will happen. If it happens 3 or 4 times in a night, why the ######### get into the lobby in the first place? So, it's these people that should be punished.

If a killer goes AFK, same thing. I doubt people will report if they're profiting from it, but in this case, the killer that chose a Wraith to go AFK is being petty. I'd report him and wouldn't think twice about it.

So the safety pip isn't a draw but that your own skill is leveling itself out, if you get a pip you're getting better at the game.

You got better or you got lucky. There's a lot of RNG in this game that can have a big impact on the game's outcome. There are also killers that make ranking up a lot easier than others.

The ranking system now is a bit of a joke when comparing it to other games, like in Quake where the skill cap is so much higher that your rank is deserved. Here, you can rank up on either side as long as you have a decent understanding of the mechanics and play a lot. I'm not saying that rank doesn't matter, but it's not a true indicator of skill.

  • @justarandy said:

Soo, straight up the good changes: vaulting animation, collision box and prayer beads change are good on paper. It's going to me more fair for survivors without destroying spirit.

Now, the other changes... Its basically just making spirit weaker. But the problem with spirit wasn't that survivors couldn't beat her. No, the problem was a core design problem. The problem was that survivors had to guess everytime, the coin flip simulation is what survivors hate.

So instead of adressing this issue, spirit just got number tweaked and nerfed. Idk if that's going to satisfy survivors nor remains the power of spirit.

On paper it sounds just like a nerf without making it more enjoyable to verse. A lose-lose situation.

This is just my first impression, let's see how it will be ingame (but then it's probably to late since bhvr never does huge changes when feedback given. See nurse, tons if feedback -> nothing changed).

I'm not a fan of big nerfs or buffs. I don't think it will fix the biggest issues that survivors are complaining about either, but I'd rather start here and have BHVR adjust as they see fit. These changes may surprise us, so we'll see.

I agree with you on some points, altough this game needs a lot more than just extended dailies in the form of challenges. In essence it's just you doing a thing more frequently (and thus not doing gens unless that's a challenge) while waisting time.

I've seen matches go weirdly because people focus on that goal without doing gens. I've said it from the beginning that this could be a problem and here we are.

I agree that it gives you something to go for even though it is still dull because nothing is really new. It gives you that false sense of change which will only last for so long..

The game is stale after 3 years of the same game mode and little to no changes to the way you have to play. There is little fun added... a lot of cosmetics though. Granted cosmetcis give you sometimes that idea of "oh cool i want that" but it wears off pretty fast.

Yes, I'm fine with that. I like this game at its core. It's a simple game that is about 50% skill and 50% RNG which is why I don't take it very seriously. However, it has a grind aspect to it that keeps me playing. So as long as they can incorporate something, whether the challenge by like a daily, or something new, I'm all for it.

I don't know what rank you are but I know that anything between 10 - 15 for me is frustrating as a solo survivor. Once you get to purple and red it normalizes somewhat so all the BS you get in the lower levels don't happen so much. It's probably because the skill is higher so the time it takes one person to do an additional objective is mitigated by the skill of other survivors. That's not to say that it's just as easy as without the challenges, it's just not a cluster #########. I do get what you're saying tho.

I do agree that something different should be implemented to shake things up, but that's an entirely different discussion.

  • My experience has been something different. I've enjoyed the challenges because it gives me more objectives in a game that I've already put thousands of hours in.. and frankly, it's been stale for a while. These days, all I do is wait for the next DLC to drop to grind back to 100% and this alleviates a lot of the monotony and adds fun-- for me.

I'm already at rank 6 on the survivor side from playing normally, but with the challenge restrictions and goals. Sure there are dickwads that farm or DC, but what else is new? Tomorrow, I'm switching to killer and I'm sure it will be just as fun. That's my outlook on it anyway. Maybe it's different on other platforms/ranks. I'm on PC.

I'm glad DBD is not continuing on the same path. It desperately needed something new and I hope things change even more in the future.

  • It's not 3 gens by yourself. I completed 2 gens with other people and one by myself and I passed the challenge in one shot.

This was not difficult for me at all.

Prayer beads are understandable however, Even about 4 months ago people were saying Spirit was strong but fair, and even balanced. I'm just not sure what it is. Everyone is acting like Spirit has become better, or something changed. If it is because people have FINALLY learned how to use her perfectly, then that counters your point that she is easy because she's been out for... a while. Also, have Survivor's just not been learning how to play against her? Why is that?

I'm sure there were people saying she was fair and balanced; I'm not doubting that at all. I'm saying that there were people who thought otherwise-- mostly PC players I'm guessing.

The reason why I brought up Nurse and Billy is because getting good results with the Spirit is far easier. I know my success rate with her is higher than it should be and I base this on how much more challenging it was to learn how to snap a chainsaw hit around corners and loops instead of using M1.

You're right, she hasn't become better. As time passed, people just realized how strong she was, and there was a breaking point.. somewhen. Like I said, I've been hearing about her being OP for a while now. It was just a matter of time before it all boiled over.

As far as why survivors don't learn how to play against her, I don't know. Maybe it's too much trouble for a casual mindset.

He is not doing well because of his Basekit, he is doing well because Killer in Low Ranks is really strong and he is the most iconic Killer.

He is the first Killer in the List and he is the Killer which is displayed when you first see the game. Sure people pick him up first and thats why he is played so much.

If Wraith would be in his Spot, Wraith would have these good results.

I don't know about that. Trapper is stronger than wraith.

  • Curious what they would do with Trapper because as weak as I know he is, overall (and I think covering all ranks) he's one of the best performers according to BHVR stats. I still wouldn't mind him getting some kind of lateral change. It doesn't have to be a buff or nerf, just something a little different.

  • I wish there was something I could do to further my Rift progress while I wait rather than just grind. Even something simple would be cool, like dailies giving Rift Fragment rewards.

  • This happened before dedicated servers but was rare. Not sure what causes it.

What about those of us who don't use headphones? ?

Also, can you explain to me when she all of a sudden became op and unfun to play against? It seems to have come out of nowhere with no one giving an exact reason as to what changed that created this situation. As far as my research has gone, nothing has changed, people just moved on to complain about something else after Legion. I could be wrong though.

It wasn't sudden.. at least on PC. It's been a growing thing since last year when they changed Prayer Beads. I know that's when I started playing her a lot at least and people didn't know how to react to that, then... and most still don't. Survivors were complaining about it since. Her other addons are something else too, and she doesn't take long to master-- at least like it took for Nurse or Hillbilly.

And speaking of Nurse, when she came out, she was considered #########. It took a while before people learned her and the devs didn't even know how good she could be.. and it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't find out until a year later. Spirit is the same way, except, like I said, a lot easier to pick up. It's no surprise BHVR says she's overperforming; none at all. So, as more players try to find a strong killer, the more popular Spirit becomes and from that, the focus.

  • Report and move on. Even if BHVR doesn't seem to do anything about that player, at least they'll know that type of gameplay is trending and can fix the exploit and/or XP grind. It's one thing to have an emergency- ######### happens but report anyway and if there's a pattern, the mods will take care of it.. hopefully.

  • @sorrowen said:

God forbid a killer kill....honestly this game going more casual is going too kill it eventually

This game has always been for the casual. People already make fun of weak M1 killers (most of them) and how easy it is for survivors to hold M1 all game. Hasn't that been the same for most of this game's life?

I doubt they would be willing to change a simple formula that would alter its difficulty and decrease its popularity. I don't think making the game harder will draw in more players because most of the players caring enough to complain are just average-skill gamers to begin with.

  • I don't mind how they did it this time because with the challenges people are trying to complete, I think it would be a big mess. I think people would play a lot more selfish and there'd be more complaints than what we have about the event now.

  • Spirit, Billy, Huntress, and Freddy are good choices. You can put on some good addons if you need them. If you're worried about map, throw one in yourself. Killer has a higher probability of getting their map choice than a survivor offering-- unless multiple survivors pick the same map.

Against a GOOD SWF then you will probably lose unless you bring strong addons like instasaw, saya/amulet, iri-head, etc. Even then, you may get <2 kills if their skill as a team is greater than yours.. in which case, move on. This said, if I want certain survivors dead, it will happen, even if I sacrifice a pip with a mori. So, it's up to you.

As far as who would win- best survivors or best killer. Best survivors, hands down. However, getting the best survivor SWF are very far and few between. For every really good survivor, there's probably 2 average and a gen-jockey derp, and this is at red ranks. Maybe you'll find that derp first.

There are a lot of variables and RNG that helps one side more than another and so the same team that escapes you in one map, you may decimate in the very next game on the same map because of who you find first, tile layout & pallet distribution, etc.

If you lose, don't take it too hard, this game isn't balanced like a traditional game and you'll find this out the more you play.

My gut tells me no, but I won't get a better grasp of it all until the other tomes come out because this first one was pretty damn easy. Hardcore players will get Tier 70; I don't doubt that. I'm just not sure about the 1 hour a day bit.

Did you BT farm people off the hook or something? I was unable to get the unhook 2 in one game because of other survivors doing all of that. That said, I started at tier 7(I would imagine others did too), and you also got exp from doing the trials, not just the tomes. That would be why you made it to tier 12.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/798811#Comment_798811

So each fragment costs 800 regardless? How is the EXP calculated? What gets you exp, how much do you get for what? Is it the same as player level exp or something separate?

I didn't farm them off hook. I knew it was my priority in the game but I still played it normally.

And yeah, I know I got tiers from just playing; that's why I said "from the challenges and grind." I earned 12 combined. If it's true that you get almost 9 tiers from challenge rewards, then I earned 3 tiers just from grinding the challenges. I ended the night at 22.5 tiers. I wasn't counting the glitch.

I don't know the specifics of XP gain, but I'm getting well over 500 per game, so if you need 800 XP per fragment and you need 10 fragments per tier, that would mean I would need to play around 15-16 games per tier.

Current tome only gives 88 rift fragments. That's almost 9 tiers. There are 70 in total. How much EXP to get a rift fragment because that sounds like a LOT of work/pretty impossible.

I completed the first tome. Most of them were done in the first try and I earned 12 tiers in The Rift from the challenges and grind. YMMV.

Thank god, I don't mind trying for a 4 mori game, but I hate challenges that force me to burn consumables.

Don't rule it out for one of the later levels. Haha.

  • You don't need to mori. I just finished it with a 4k.

And besides, I don't know why this is even pitted against survivor challenges. You're going to want to do both sides to get the most out of it. So, people that mostly play survivor will need to do this challenge too if they want to 100% it.

I don't think this is a difficult challenge for it being the finale for level 1. But if you're having problems, then just keep trying. You have a couple weeks to complete it.

  • I think it depends. It wouldn't surprise me if you were hovering around the gray and yellow ranks. Survivors there will dc a lot to stealth killers. The times I see people dc to Ghostface in red ranks is if they think they're gonna lose an item, but then that's with every other killer too.

  • I love getting the same survivor that talks a lot of ######### from the game before.

This was roughly my second or third blood web after the new system sadly I had all previous perks. It seems to of been semi consistent to this bloodweb. Just didn't pay attention cuz these addons were nuts.

If I can remember, I'll try to keep an eye out for it because for me, I use way more purple addons than red. Before, I would have said prestiging wasn't worth it, but with the rework, it may be if it ups the "very rare" count considerably like it should have all along.
