  • Oh my god... I did not get this survey question. I would've checked most of those boxes. Fingers crossed they un-murder him. Would be a net gain for the entire playerbase if a fun killer is back in the meta again

  • I would be into pretty much all of these. Sucks if it's true that there's only going to be one new earnable skin for killer this halloween

  • Oh man, so many

    • Chainsaw overheats after using for 10 seconds - defective unit, hillbilly needs to buy a new one
    • Head bobbing into the ground every time he finishes a sprint
    • Eyes apparently sticking out 2 feet in front of his head, given the camera position
    • Cannot chainsaw through a twig sticking out of a tree
    • Crashing into invisible pixels around objects during sprints
    • Hillbilly lets out this weird GEBLARGAGARGLEGAAAA every time he sprints
    • Addons also seem bugged because they're all terrible

Old Undying by a landslide. A lot of people that complained about old Undying's respawn elements acted as if every single game they were cleansing all the totems in the match. The truth of the matter was that 50% of the time, it behaved like current undying, and another 50% of the time, it took 3 cleanses which had a 50% chance of taking 4 cleanses ect. It also meant that if you ran a totem that existed at the start of the match with Undying, there was anti-synergy with NOED.

There are potentially 4 totems for the killer to juggle and they can keep coming an infinite amount of times, all while killers can't afford to be exploring the map. Oh yeah, and you can pick your spot whereas killers can't.

Well said. Came here to make that same point about old undying but your comment covers that all pretty thoroughly

  • Would 100% be on board with axing charms because

    1.) They're stupid

2.) It would be comical to see how actually empty the rift is without them

Would much rather have cosmetic tokens in the rift instead of charms (i.e. you unlock 6 tokens per rift, can unlock 6 cosmetics of your choosing for free)

  • I think (almost) everyone is happy with her having 1 tell that she's phasing and where she's positioned (as she is on the PTB now). If she had 2 tells (directional audio + visible footsteps) like they said in the dev update... gutted would still be a strong word, but she would be a lot closer to mediocrity if survivors could reliably pinpoint her position at all times during phasing

I hope they keep her as she is on PTB. Feels like that is a very fair compromise

  • He's still a strong contender for worst killer in the game right now

  • Interesting, didn't hear about the range update. But if a survivor can still hold W until outside the range before the killer catches up, it'll still be hot garbage (even if it wasn't a hex), aside from being solid on a few choice killers that can catch up. Huntress or a killer with stbfl might be able to make it work well

Still feels like devour or ruin or haunted grounds are all exponentially better as hex perks

I'm pretty sure you are not running around with a generator, and not seeing scratch marks in a 28m radius is a pretty big deal. It's not panic. WE'RE LITERALLY PLAYING IT RIGHT NOW.

Also bless a totem in a safe area, and return at any time for 90% speed self healing. Bless a totem and the Killer has to decide between never catching you, or snuffing the totem to let you go. Then when the Killer can't find you anymore, go back and relight the totem, so when the Killer does find you, you can just abuse it again.

That is entirely 100% nothing but broken. This is literally the worst idea.

If they made boon totems limited sure, no problem. Bless a totem, get it's use, the killer snuffs it, and boom no more perk. That would of been balanced, but instead. It's another thing that the killer worries about, and there is literally NO COUNTER. You decide between losing or losing. Which way to lose would you rather?

I'll say again, this isn't rocket science.

Well said. I have nothing to add aside from just pointing out that it'll be even more busted with halfway decent SWF coordination

  • Believe it or not, I wanted a spirit nerf to happen for a long time. 1 tell for when she uses her power would be enough. 2 tells is going to knock her down to mediocrity

For how stupid simple the key changes are, yes they absolutely should've come 9 months ago with moris

Plague was A tier before, she's A-tier now after the changes (which are mostly nice QOL that won't make any huge gameplay difference)

Say what you want about slinger but he was nowhere near A or S tier. I never played him but I feel awful for anyone that did. Dude's going to suck ass now

  • I think the complaints are more so... the killer nerfs are A LOT, and the buffs are pretty small. They do not level out

Listen, spirit and slinger probably needed nerfs to make them less miserable to play against, but the spirit ones are a bit much, and slinger needed something to compensate for his nerfs. I feel bad for anyone that played them both regularly

Key nerfs are great, but they came NINE MONTHS after mori changes. It's not that the dev's don't care about killer players, but it sure as ######### feels like they care about survivor players a lot more

  • Billy by a mile for me. For one, the fact that all of their explained rationale for the changes was complete and utter bullshit that could not hold up to any semblance of scrutiny.

For two, the fact that billy was widely considered the gold standard of a fun, balanced killer, and they still nerfed him

And for three, it's been over a year since they did it - by now, they have a pretty solid idea that 90+% of the playerbase hated the change, and they are still digging in their heels and refusing to change anything about it

Easily the worst change they've made to the game imo

  • Guess it'll depend on how noticeable all the tracking stuff is, but assuming it's reliably easy to spot, it seems like a good survivor could just camp a pallet or window and be pretty consistently safe during phasing

  • There's some stuff done right about him but for the most part, it feels like we got punchy tentacle man instead of Nemesis

  • Borrowed time is probably the absolute best perk to combo with it there. All but guarantees you get a stack even if you unhook in the killer's face, and 99% of the time, hooked survivor will get away. You can also body block in addition to that if the killer is really on them, which gives you more stacks and is also your civic duty in that scenario

I usually run those 2 perks plus inner strength and small game for totem hunting, but some other stuff that plays well:

    • Botany knowledge and/or we'll make it - basically allows you to insta-pick up slugged survivors by the time you stack that with WGLF
    • I'd say mettle of man if you're into protection hit stacks, but that seems like it's gunna be a wasted slot most of the time
    • Aftercare probably wouldn't be terrible if you're getting stacks from unhooks, but I've never tried it
  • Ghostface. I actually like versing all 3 of the killers you listed

  • Even without torment, he arguably has the strongest non-mobility chase power in the game. Torment is just icing on the cake

  • @Myla said:

It's hilariously bad on a good survivor. People underestimate how nutty the fact that you get TWO sprint boost from getting injured is = More distance. You can argue that you're setting up for tentacle shennanigans but IMO the penalty is too much and easily healed.

Fully agree. Add on the fact that there are 4 vaccines and you have 8 free hits you have to give away per game

It is always a night and day difference when I switch from playing Nemmy to playing an actually good killer. This iteration of nemmy is such a disappointment

  • Thanks for linking all of these. Tough call, all looks pretty great. I'm sick of bhvr's usual bullshit shenanigans, so any good competition is very welcome. Ash vs Evil Dead still looks like it'll be the most legitimate competition to DBD right now imo, and looks like it'll have a little higher production value compared to the rest. I'm very cool with them delaying it until it's ready to release

That said, had not even heard of haunt chaser or that an early version was out now. Gunna go check that out. Thanks OP!

  • Kind of have to agree about pinhead. I played 6 or so rounds of him, then played a few rounds of Clown afterwards. Clown has an objectively better chase than pinhead, even if you're hitting your hooks often. 4 bottles, a thousand times easier to aim, and each one of them gives you the same (or more) slowdown than landing a chain hit with pinhead. Chain hunt is nice, but against a decent team, you'll have exactly 0 seconds of it during the entire match. It's not like that's a rare occurrence. Half of my games never had a second of chain hunt in them, and there's nothing the killer can do about it

I honestly feel like anyone that's doing well with pinhead would be doing noticeably better with Clown. It's not winning due to the strength of the killer, it's winning due to that player being good at killer in general

  • I played a couple rounds of pinhead, then played a couple rounds of clown. Even if you're hitting your hooks, clown is so much better in chase than pinhead right now. Which is incredibly depressing

To be fair, Ghostface's power was actually just broken on his ptb and Blight's ptb was out of date by a week.

Though the devs did make some changes to pinhead to live, but they clearly didn't do enough since the respawning hooks from enviromental breaks hardly matter.

Fair points all around. Agree that the respawned hooks from environmental breaks doesn't seem to be doing much

The one other thing that was bugging me with pinhead was that the environment can just prevent the hooks from connecting in the first place. Hit a survivor in the barn of rancid abbatoir and had zero of the hooks actually connect with them because of all the little fences around there. Wasn't sure if the hooks respawned later or if that was the chain hunt going on but either way, that survivor still got a mile of distance on me before I caught up

  • Well... that's kind of the same counterargument when people say a killer is weak on the PTB. If you've played long enough, you don't need to see more than a few hours of matches to get a feel for whether a killer is strong or weak. Ghostface/Blight/Trickster - everyone called out that they were weak on the PTB, and they were. They later got buffs and fixes to make them stronger

Pinhead wasn't changed much from the PTB, where he was also weak. He has some passive slowdown that's not quite as good as pig's, and he has a chase that's worse than clown's. If he's hard to play, he needs to be rewarding in some way. Right now, he's difficult AND sucks ass

  • Too early for me to tell. All my first couple pinhead games were against really solid red rank survivors, so... doesn't feel like it's doing anything different compared to rank matchmaking for me yet

MMR must know that I am a potato survivor though, because my teammates were worse than usual on the survivor side hahaha

  • Well said. It is kinda nuts how much distance you can get on him when holding w and dodging 1 chain

He forces you to stop doing gens, otherwise you can't do gens. He finds survivors for free, and can teleport to them. He shuts down loops entirely and you can't use your exhaustion perks and pallets are useless. That's way stronger than clown. He's ######### miserable to play against as a solo survivor. I'm just adding him to the list of killers I kill myself against to get out of the game as fast as possible.

Strong disagree on him being stronger than Clown. To your points:

    • If one person gets the puzzle box before the chain hunt starts, it'll never activate. Played full games as pinhead where I never once got a chain hunt going. That can be annoying as solo survivor though if all your teammates are potatoes and you're the one doing the puzzle box every time. All that said, it's less passive slowdown than pig gets
    • He can teleport to one survivor a few times a match, and they get a good look at where he's spawning so they can run away. When you play as pinhead, you have zero idea where the survivor is, and they've usually got a solid headstart by the time you find scratch marks
    • His counterplay seems to be to hold W, then only use pallets to stop an M1. He's going to punish looping if he can manage to land that incredibly difficult to aim chain shot (difficult as hell on console, at least)

I'll agree on that point though, he is not very fun to verse as a solo survivor. BHVR seems to have found a way to thread the needle and create a killer that is miserable to both play as and against

  • Played 3 matches on console... yeah... probably not gunna play him again unless he gets some large buffs. He is painfully underwhelming

I'd say I can't remember the last time a killer was this bad on release, but I never played trickster

  • Tried a couple matches on console with him. I was optimistic before but jesus christ is he bad at red ranks. The payoff for an incredibly difficult chain hit is to have them get slowed less than a clown bottle

Also had someone I hit with a chain inside the barn in rancid abbatoir, and had literally zero of the spawned chains connect with them. This killer has me throwing my arms up in the air all the time

  • I usually run ruin + pop anymore. Ruin covers some of the early game, pop covers the late game. I usually find that ruin alone doesn't last that much shorter than ruin + undying, oddly enough. And ruin pop is much much much more consistent than ruin undying

  • - If it's a licensed killer that looks fun, I'll buy it. Otherwise, until BHVR fixes optimization, I'll buy every character/outfit I want with shards. Not gunna waste money on cosmetics that can't be bought with shards

    - Don't care that there are no new survivors or maps. I already have 8 survivors I rotate between, and different survivors are functionally just a bunch of skins anyways. And let's be real, if there was a new map, it would probably be broken for 2 months anyways

    - Probably true about the killer power being weak from the start. Hopefully not so much as PTB

    - New killer perks will definitely be a waste of space. But that's true for virtually every new killer

  • If this helps to give the design team better data on higher level play and leads to actually good balance decisions, then I'm all for it

Also, matchmaking has been one of the biggest criticisms of this game since forever, so I'm at glad they're at least attempting to make that area of the game better

  • God, I hate them. Still feels like they just littered the maps with a bunch of pre-dropped pallets

  • I don't think he's the greatest killer ever but I'd much prefer a licensed chapter instead of an original chapter at this point (last original killer I liked was Oni), and I was pretty disappointed in general with the RE chapter, so this one seems like a pleasant surprise. He needs some large buffs from the PTB but his power looks cool, unique, fun, and it's an excellent translation from the source material.

Don't really care about lore, as horror movies or novels are usually a thousand times more interesting to me than the stream of consciousness lore in DBD. Assuming they adequately buff Pinhead and the game doesn't break for another 2 months, imo this feels like the best killer release since Pyramid Head

  • On console, Spirit by a mile. On PC, seems like Nurse has the edge

To your point though, I think Spirit is much more consistent regardless of map type

  • Will it make a difference? Almost assuredly not

Will it make BHVR sweat a little more on this issue? Yes, and after all these years of garbage console optimization, I'm very much in support of that. If they couldn't guarantee the game would run decently on consoles, they never should've released the game on those platforms to begin with

    @mustang

Not sure if you were following the context in which I asked the other member. I didn’t mean old DS, I meant new DS. A survivor cannot touch a gen unless they want their DS to stay active.

As for the other examples, I don’t see how someone flashlight clicking trying to get your attention means you have to pay attention to them. At that point it is obvious that they have DS and they are just trying to get downed by you, so you can lose focus of the other survivor. This is like beginner killer 101.

I’ll gladly down them, and continue to chase the other survivor. That is 2 survivors not on a gen. So that strat doesn’t work on good killers. They are trying to get a situation in which DS CAN work. Also, depending on how I am paced as killer I will sometimes take the DS stun just because I would rather deal with it then, than later when a gate is open or when they are forced to trade and no longer have it.

My point was that DS has to follow step 1/2/3 , you cannot bring DS and expect to get to step 3 while skipping steps 1/2, unless it is a very situational scenario.

That's my bad, misread that, thought you were talking old DS. I agree that it's fairly clear a survivor is trying to use DS when they're doing those kinds of things, and the proper counterplay would be to ignore them as killer (as much as you can, bodyblocking aside). I also agree that it's usually not going to be very effective against good killers, but I guess I'd argue that it fits the definition of using DS offensively, as the survivor can play quite a bit more recklessly than they otherwise would, knowing that they have protection. Having DS active basically allows them to force a choice on the killer - try to ignore the survivor A, and have them potentially extend a chase with survivor B by using flashlight blinds or bodyblocking, or go after the survivor A and eat the DS. Slugging survivor A also takes time and can extend the chase with survivor B. Whether or not it's an effective strategy, the survivor can still waste some of the killer's time doing this stuff if they really want to

I'm not sure any of this is even problematic at this point, I guess my only argument was that I've seen DS used offensively quite a bit. Not as much as in the past, but it does still happen

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2450118#Comment_2450118

    @SilentHill

Give me an example of when DS was used “offensively” where it did not involve the killer coming back to the hook. I have been a red rank survivor/killer with over 6000 hours for a long time and I have not seen anyone use current DS for any other reason other than the killer camped/tunneled OR it was a situation (again) where the hook was next to the gate being opened.

No one is denying it’s strength pre-nerf, but that is not what we are talking about.

I usually take what streamers say with a grain of salt because at the end of the day, they are no better than someone who has thousands of hours who just happens to be a regular player with an opinion. Nothing against them.

I’m not sure what you mean by that last part. Like, if anything I would say RNG does more than perks sometimes because I’ve seen atrocious set ups and extremely strong set ups where perks like DS and BT meant nothing. I.E. someone gave you BT but you didn’t need it because you found a god loop, or someone gave you BT they waited it out only for you to go down in a dead zone with no pallets.

Man, I have way less than 6,000 hours and I can not count how many times I've seen old DS being used offensively. Survivors would beeline straight to a gen knowing that they had 60 seconds of immunity to progress their objective. Or they could harass with a flashlight/bodyblock for someone else in a chase/add some scratch marks to lead a killer away from a survivor they're chasing, then loud pop in and out of a locker for the remaining 40 seconds of their DS. They could do all that knowing that the worst thing that can happen to them is they get slugged (and if they have unbreakable too, then they'll also only spend however many seconds slugged), while the upside is that they waste a bunch of the killer's time, which is the killer's most important resource. Those are all examples of a survivor using DS offensively without the killer coming back to the hook. They can still do some of those things, but at least the gen/totem/healing stuff now deactivates DS, so it's generally used more defensively than offensively now

  • The killer equivalent would be if you could double your FOV in the settings. Much like how stretched res can render some killer tactics useless (red stain mindgame/moonwalking etc.), super shadowborn settings would render some survivor strategies useless (360ing, stealth etc.)

  • Old racecar bubba was a lot of fun and actually decently strong. New bubba is better in general but speed limiter is pretty rough

And Bubba had his rework the same time Billy was murdered :( July of last year, I think

  • I love the design and the power, just really hoping he gets some sizeable buffs because he looks like budget Clown in terms of chase power right now

  • Agreed. I'm really glad that Pinhead seems to have a really cool design that meshes well with the source material, but it does make the RE chapter that much more disappointing. Better we get 1 good killer than 2 bad ones, I guess. I like the RE chapter survivors and I think they did a fairly good job of translating them over to DBD, but Nemmy feels like a huge missed opportunity to me. Sprinting definitely should've been a part of his kit. And I don't really buy into the idea that a rocket launcher wouldn't have worked here. Even if it just puts survivors into the dying state and has a heavy cooldown or other restriction to it, this game already has so many elements that make no sense under scrutiny (hundred lb teenage girl jumping out of a locker stuns a giant armor plated Oni demon for several seconds. 20 lb wood pallet stops bloodthirsty killer in their tracks. Putting a chainsaw through someone just knocks them to the floor instead of cutting them in half. Survivors can be dropped to the floor by killer and still be in the dying state, but if there's a flashlight or pallet involved, they instantly heal themselves etc.) It doesn't need to make sense, so long as it plays well. Anyways though, Nemmy's current design is boring and comparatively weak when looking at other similar killers. I still feel that he's harder to play than PH with far less reward

It's a shame but I think the best we can hope for at this point is just some midchapter balance adjustments. Maybe they'll finally remove the sprint burst from the initial infection hit

  • The main one I would want is to delete the hillbilly rework :(

This game isn't the same without you, billy boy

  • Just to clarify - is the question "who's more fun playing AS" or "who's more fun playing AGAINST?"

  • I really do love the design of him and he looks like a lot of fun, but it does seem like a fair point that his chase power is kind of... a worse version of clown bottles right now. It's roughly the same amount of slowdown and much harder to land. I think he could be a blast with some simple number adjustments

  • I was really excited when they talked about adding bot matches. Was hoping it would be for more than just default trapper vs default survivors

  • Having at least the option to make them brighter would be great. Console is auto-set to ultra graphics, which is stupidly dark a lot of the time. New autohaven maps being a great example

  • I would absolutely love anything TLOU related. I feel like a clicker could make for an extremely unique killer too, if done right. First person echo-location, making the main counterplay stealth and making it a monster in chase once it finds someone. Done right, I feel like it would be a breath of fresh air when most of the new killers coming in have copy/pasted elements from other earlier killers and the playstyle against all of them is pretty much the same

If they couldn't make a clicker work though, it'd probably be better off as a paragraph for the survivors. A bloater might translate into a more standard DBD killer more easily, but that wouldn't be as iconic and would probably end up being ... not great

  • I'm mostly disappointed with the execution of it all. I think the survivors turned out pretty well, and the 2 picks were good ones. Perks for them were pretty well done. I think RPD map was a good pick for location, and Nemmy was one of the obvious choices for killer

But the map is a nightmare gameplay-wise, and should be cut into 2 or 3 smaller maps. It is unreal that they didn't see how making a near 1 to 1 copy of that map would not translate well to DBD

And this feels like the lamest incarnation of Nemmy. No sprinting, no rocket launcher. Just a worse version of PH with barely functioning AI zombies tacked on. I would've taken literally any other potential RE killer over this version of Nemmy. Mr. X or Jack Baker or Birkin

I guess when I look at the RE chapter, I'm just disappointed because it could've been so much better than it was. The only reason I play Nemmy anymore is to use my bajillion cakes on him. Once those are gone, I'll probably never have any reason to play him again

  • At this point, BHVR has been made well aware that the overwhelming majority of the community wants them to focus on game health instead of adding new content. They just do not care

  • @BingBongMan said:

I've been trying to find a killer that suits me, but is still one that can perform well.

For god knows how long I've been maining console Blight, and occassionally trying other killers. But lately I've grown tired of precision based characters who can be dodged by moving slightly to the left or right. Which seems to be a growing trend with modern killers.

I just don't know who to play anymore. I don't want to take a break, I just want to find a killer that suits me.

Based on what you've said, have you tried Doctor? It seems like he might actually be a good fit for your playstyle. Shock blast is pretty easy to hit (rarely will be dodged by running left/right), and he's a high B tier killer imo. Can be a lot of fun once you get the hang of him. Static blast and madness tiers provide a little bit of passive slowdown. I'm typically rotating between PH, Doctor, and Wraith most of the time. I think my record was a 20 game win streak with Doctor at rank 1, so I'd argue he's pretty viable against solid survivors (with the exception of swat teams)

Also, have you tried Demo? I'd say he's a little more middle of the road in terms of strength but he can be a lot of fun to play as well

1 2 3 4 5 … 10
