I hate to say it, but DS is practically necessary to have nowadays. The type of players you ran into are not the only of their kind, and DS is the best tool to combat them unfortunately.
Btw your misplay was getting into the locker. It's generally a bad idea to do so at the start of the match, especially when healthy. I'm not blaming you though, I've done it myself.
You can call it a misplay if you like, but the point is the killer had passed by 2 other lockers and hadn't checked them. He had nearly passed the lockers where we were. Chances are very high the killer would have walked by had this other survivor not jumped out.

So a teammate survivor showing the killer in what locker you are hiding is now a misplay of yourself? What?
Thank you. Amazing to me that someone can read that and start arguing against what I said based on things I never said.

Obviously you read a different OP than I did.
"As the killer came to the area where we were hiding the other survivor jumps out of the locker..."
The killer wasn't "checking lockers for no reason". They werent checking lockers at all. When other other survivor saw the killer, THEN they jumped out of the locker and started pointing.
Thank you for actually comprehending what I wrote. I love when people start giving you counterarguments to something you said when they didn't even attempt to comprehend it.

I can say that. I don't have to read minds to watch the actions being taken.

DS is a must run perk for how good it is. You should have recorded what happened, then BHVR could have checked the chat logs to see if they had planned on working together. The Killer might've wanted to farm. You didn't wait and see.
DS is a perk that almost guarantees you will be tunneled after you use it. And the chances the killer was farming are slim. The killer would have been trying to get points by hitting the other survivor and hanging them too, but they weren't.

Don't DC. It is against the rules. Once in a while is fine, life happens. DC'ing out of rage is childish.
That isn't DC'ing out of rage. I rarely get angry. It was DCing on principle. I will not let a killer and a survivor benefit from cheating. It was obvious they were just going to hang me again and get their points. If they are going to cheat I have no problem DCing.
-
What misplay did I make? And "could have run DS to counter that"? Where do you propose I learn fortune telling so I know ahead of time that I will be running into a killer working with a survivor and I will need to run DS to counter cheaters?

Step 1: Work on a generator. This can be accomplished by approaching one and holding M1. Watch out for skillchecks!
Step 2: Run kindred. There's especially no excuse now that's its been buffed to help YOU and not just your teammates.
Step 3: Leave when the gates are powered.
Step 4: ??????
Step 5: Profit.
In all seriousness though, the only reason campers and tunnelers get kills is because survivors feed them. If they're wasting their time on one person (camping OR tunneling) every other person should be on a gen, and the end result should be a measly 1k. Too many times I see camping killers that should've lost the match end up with three or four kills because survivors have this "no man left behind complex." Cut your losses and leave, and don't be mad at your teammates when they decide not to feed a bad killer points and kills.
Yes! This a thousand times. It seems like 90% of survivors have a hero complex and just can't help themselves but to try to help someone being camped or tunneled. It is a completely shortsighted strategy that results in nothing but a guaranteed loss for them.
Offering yourself as an easy sacrifice because you just have to be the hero only ends up with both of you being easy prey. You not only haven't actually helped the person being camped/tunneled, but you have hurt yourself for nothing. You actually have a better chance of helping a survivor being camped/tunneled if the killer sees gens being popped all over the place. You force the killer to make a choice between continuing to tunnel/camp and getting very few points for it or changing their strategy to try to get more kills.
-
Yep. I'm only around a level 12 or 13 survivor. Just played a match earlier today where I unhooked all 3 other survivors at least once. One of them I unhooked twice. They didn't seem at all interested in unhooking anyone themselves. I healed them all after unhooking them. Sometimes someone else helped with the healing if they were near. Sometimes they didn't even then.
One of them unhooked me once, but he was literally right around the corner when the killer hooked me so it was just easy points for him.
I finished the last gen by myself. The killer downed me on my way to the door. None of the 3 other survivors even bothered to come back and try to help me. It wasn't like the killer was just standing there using me as bait either. One of them opened a door and they all 3 left. I noticed after the match they were all level 8 or below.
It made me wonder if the way to reach those single digit levels is to play completely selfishly.

The problems on PS4 are numerous and nothing has been done about them for months. At this point the game is still playable for me. Although the fact that PS4 specific issues seem to be ignored leads me to believe there will be a time where the game becomes unplayable for me.

As a survivor main I wish I was being teamed up with the survivors you are seeing. I keep getting teamed up with survivors that lack intelligence and common sense.

Are some survivors toxic? Yes, absolutely. Are some killers toxic? Yes, absolutely. Can the post you just made be turned around to paint killers in exactly the same light you are attempting to paint survivors? Yes, absolutely.

This is what happens when a challenge to unhook survivors is put on the archives. It's quicker to get through them by instantly unhooking with BT, farming people and just ending the game quicker to move on to the next one.
The goals have changed due to this and so doing gens or escaping becomes a secondary objective over what their personal goal is.
I sometimes forget about the challenges. I'm not participating in them for that very reason. Way too many of the challenges make people play in a way that makes the game unenjoyable.

Don't worry, it's not too late to take part! You too can make a difference.
We'll be selling badges, pens, T-shirts, wristbands and more at the campfire from 10 to 4 to raise money to support stupid survivors everywhere.
Can we start a charity with the money raised that gives brain transplants to survivors that do this as theirs obviously doesn't function appropriately.
-
I admit when I first started playing this game I frequently thought there was a lot that was unfair about one thing or another in the game. As I got a little more experience I changed my tune on that mostly. I still think there are a few things in the game that are a little to skewed towards one side of the other.
The thing I find the most unfair now are the people playing the game. For example when someone complains about tunneling and camping most people will point out that they are legitimate strategies. But there are some killer mains that will then turn around and complain about looping to the point that the devs actually put in something to block a window if a survivor is "abusing" it.
I don't like tunneling or camping, but I think they are legitimate strategies. If they are legitimate strategies then so is looping and it shouldn't have been nerfed anymore than tunneling or camping.
For the record I know there are survivors that act just the same. This wasn't a poke at killers. It's just the example that came to mind because I play as a survivor main.
In other words what is unfair are the people that play this game who find everything that's useful for them to be legitimate while finding everything that isn't beneficial to them to be bad and push for it to be nerfed.
-
Played 12 games since the update. Despite the supposed increased chances of being sent there I haven't even seen the new map. I think they unintentionally made my increased chances be for backwater swamp. I've been there 5 times out of those 12 games.

Glad to hear so many killers find those types of survivors just as annoying as I do

I do that as killer. I don't typically see this particular situation, but more often people who I'm chasing running to a hook and "saving" the person right in front of me. I'll always just let that person go and kill the person who unhooked them right in front of my face instead. Or if they start lagging right in front of me pretty bad I tend to not take advantage of that.
But of course, if you're running around teabagging and clicking a flashlight at me then I'll disregard these personal rules and just say screw you too
I have mad respect for that too. I wish more killers were like that.
-
The other survivor could have run in at least 2 other directions. They chose to block me in thinking they would create a situation where they made me a target that was too easy so they could get away. I wouldn't have made this post if the situation were unavoidable.

I don't think the devs have a y clear idea about how to play their game at high levels. That's why they design maps which are terrible, like hawkings.
Some areas are borderline unplayable for a killer and some areas are terrible for a survivor.
Unplayable map
100% agree. Every time I load into that map I hate it. There are maps I like and maps I don't like, but the only one that makes me want to DC every time I see it, it's that one.

I figured that much out. I suppose I should have been more specific. What I'm asking is what is about Ghostface that makes him so much better that over 50 percent of my games are against him?
-
When I first started playing I DC'd far too much. As I began to understand the game more I did so less and less. The only time I DC now is if I run into one of those games where there's so much lag it's unplayable.
As for suicide on hook. I will express an opinion that I am sure will meet with lots of disagreement. I NEVER suicide on hook the first time I get hung. However, I will on the second.
Example: I get hung and a selfish survivor immediately unhooks me while the killer is still standing right there. The killer chooses to ignore the selfish survivor and chase me. Of course that selfish survivor is following right behind so they can do it again. I won't DC, but I'm also not going to struggle on that second hook. This accomplishes 2 things.
1) It prevents both the selfish survivor and the killer from getting easy bloodpoints yet again at my expense.
2) It puts the selfish survivor in the crosshairs of the killer, which is exactly where they belong.
I don't want anyone thinking I am trying to say the selfish killer and selfish survivor I described above shouldn't be allowed to do that. They aren't breaking any rules so they should be allowed. At the same time don't tell me I shouldn't be allowed to suicide on the hook in that situation. If someone wants to intentionally screw my game and prevent it from being both fun and profitable for me then I am under no obligation to just stick it out and make it profitable for them.
In others words I think suicide on the hook should be allowed without penalty. It's an effective way to limit just how much those whom want to play selfishly profit from it.

A couple of PS4 bugs I have been having for several weeks
1)After every single match I get the error pop up that I have been disconnected from the server and everything locks up. i This always happens before scores are displayed. Usually it doesn't last long. Occasionally it lasts as long as 30 to 45 seconds.
2) After the scores load and I triangle back to the campfire to start a new match I get "an unknown error has occurred". At that point I get taken back to the screen to choose whether I want to play as a killer or survivor. Both of these happen after every single match.
While neither take much time and the annoyance factor isn't significant I thought I would go ahead and mention it since there is a thread going about PS4 issues.
I have deleted and reinstalled a couple of times just to make sure and it hasn't helped.

Thanks. That's what I figured but didn't want to report a glitch that wasn't actually a glitch

DS used to be a must have for me. However, there is one HUGE disadvantage to using DS that makes it a perk with a negative value to me. Using DS will result in being tunneled over 90% of the time.
Using DS will allow me to get away from a killer one time. However, being tunneled after using it not only negates the brief advantage I got from using DS, but it turns it into a net negative effect.
-
I play almost exclusively as a survivor. I can't stand killers than camp. It's a sign of a killer with no skill. Having said that.... if you want to see camping go way down the people that need to be punished are the survivors that make camping advantageous for the killer, and it's other survivors that need to punish them.
If you are a killer that doesn't want to work that hard and still get some easy points camping is the way to go. All you have to do is hook one survivor. By hooking just one person you are guaranteed to have at least 1 if not 2 other survivors that will be completely selfish and run up to unhook that person regardless of the fact you are standing there. Why try to find survivors and work to get them when almost half of them are so selfish they will run right to you not caring at all if they ruin matches for everyone else?
We don't need devs to make changes to punish these selfish survivors. The ones that aren't playing selfishly need to take it upon ourselves to ruin the game for the selfish survivors. Do you see a selfish survivor on a hook? Don't unhook them. See a selfish survivor hurt? Don't heal them. Did you see a selfish survivor go into a locker? Point them out to the killer. You get my point. If someone doesn't care if their selfish play ruins the game for everyone why not give them some of their own medicine?
There will be far fewer killers that camp when it stops being guaranteed easy points. The only way that is going to happen is if we make it as miserable for those that want to play selfishly as they make it for the rest of us.

The surv should also lose DS the moment they touch a gen.
I would have no problem with there being certain things that make survivors lose DS. That seems reasonable. I just hate seeing anyone (whether playing killer or survivor) manipulate things to give them an unfair advantage.
-
I HATE both camping and tunneling. It makes the game unenjoyable for the person being singled out. Having said that.... selfish survivors are to blame for both.
Toxic survivors are the ones that make these things a winning strategy for so many killers. Killers know that there is an extremely high likelihood that a toxic survivor looking for cheap bloodpoints will come unhook or attempt to unhook while they are still standing right there. Camping becomes an easy 2 for 1 for killers because there is always at least 1 toxic survivor that could care less about anyone else.
Killers also know that these same toxic survivors will follow the person being tunneled around like an ambulance chasing lawyer so they can do exactly what I referenced in the above paragraph.
If you want to see less camping and tunneling then here is the best advice you can receive. When you are playing as a survivor quit being a toxic twit that makes these things effective strategies for killers. If a killer is camping then gen rush them. Make them pay a pentalty for camping or tunneling.
Until people playing as survivors quit making these things effective strategies for killers they will continue, and the only people to blame are the survivors that are to freaking selfish to care.
Just an added little note. If you are playing with these toxic survivors DO NOT pull them off when they get hooked. Make them pay a price for being toxic.
-
Having DS only be active for 60 seconds seems to be very fair. However, what isn't fair is when a killer intentionally drops a survivor to prevent them from being able to use it.
If it were up to me (and I know many of you will be glad it isn't) this is what I would do with DS.
If killer picks up a survivor that has DS active it will remain active until:
a) survivor misses the DS skill check
b) survivor is hung
c) survivor is healed
This would remove any incentive killers have to drop a survivor to keep them from using a legitimate perk.

While you are correct in saying that some of the benefits aren't really needed against inexperienced killer and don't really work against good killers, it is absolutely true that this perk is great for stealth.
And if you prefer to stealth, you can do some interesting things with it.
Someone already mentioned using it in jukes against the Spirit. If only it worked injured and we had a perk that stopped blood dripping Spirit would no longer be a problem.
You can also use the perk in jungle gyms. It's crazy how good you can juke even good killers by using running tactics then stopping to walk and juke while in a jungle gym. Most killers aren't used to these tactics and misjudge your movements because of the extra 20% speed, so they can trick themselves into thinking you couldn't have possible gone there when you in fact did.
It doesn't only work on gyms, it works good in many spots with lots of LOS blockers and corners. The perk creates all sorts of new safe spots on the map which traditionally aren't by looping standards. It doesn't last long though because if you get injured you lose the benefit, but just focus on juking for a while and you'll suddenly see how good this perk is.
For best results use it in conjunction with Urban Evasion, and be sure to pack Inner Strength and/or a medkit so you can heal up after getting injured.
If I could award bonus points..... I can only vote up your reply (and I did). I am convinced I need to give this perk a try now.

Usually it's the ones that see the scratch marks suddenly end after line of sight, like Spirit. You know that they're in the area. It's fine if you don't like it or understand it. Someone here will probably explain it better than i can. I tend to use it as mind game and leave a gen faster without showing scratch marks. I use Spine chill so it gives me an early notification of when the killer is coming. Some people don't see why Better Together is good either but i like it too.
I don't know that anyone explained it better. I think it is a combination of all the explanations. I was simply failing to see aspects required to understand the benefits. That's why this forum is great. There's always someone to help all of us realize when we simply are missing the bigger picture. I know I miss it at times.

The comments here are helping me to see that. It's strange. I can usually pick out the positive aspects of any of the perks. I wasn't see it here. That's why I posted. I figured someone (or many people) pointing out to me what I wasn't able to figure out.

Ironically stealth is my preferred method to play. That is why I posted though. I figured there had to be something I was missing, and it appears the things I was missing about it just might be beneficial to my style of play.

@PGJSF said:
Seeing your own scratchmark can help you using them against the killer, make him follow a false lead while you walk away (faster) in another direction.
The walk movement speed can be used to juke BBQ&Chili. Killer hooks a survivor, you run to the left for 4 seconds then walk to the right. Some killer will predict this and go right, but they don’t know you are using the perk so they won’t go right enough.
Also, the walk movement speed and scratchmarks combined are somewhat a direct counter to the Spirit as long as you’re not injured. Spirit phasewalk towards you, you leave your scratchmarks to some intersection then randomly walk behind something that obstructs line of sight and hope she doesn’t guess what you’re doing.
This makes sense to me. I can see where this could be useful. With some practice implementing perhaps even very useful. Thanks.

Today was the first time I was placed on the new map. The odds of that have to be astronomical for someone that plays a minimum of 10 matches daily. Usually 2 to 3 times that amount.

I thought that is the way it always happens. The odds that I have played as many matches as I have since the release of the Stranger Things content and yet to see the new map is astronomical.

@newavitar said:
It's an issue with priority. I don't think DBD has set priority over actions, so the code puts some actions as more important than others, even if we don't want them to be. For example, you are injured and have self care. You decide to heal by a pallet. Pressing r1 will start the heal, but it also drops the pallet. The game has to decide what's more important. Dropping the pallet, or healing. We as humans are able to define what's more important by reading the situation, but computers don't have intuition, so they have to have one action that's always more important. Usually, that's interacting with pallets.
That makes sense. I guess my thought is that it seems like it would be possible to set the priority to whatever is actually on the screen. If the screen says you will heal if you hit r1 then you heal. If it says you will do a gen then you do a gen. Anything else is confusing. I don't need or want the game to determine what I "actually" want to do regardless of what it is telling me will happen when I hit R1.

Ok. Thanks. I thought it meant there was a separate thing to download.

Come on. You're better than that.
I get that. It's not about the few points I would get in that situation. It's about refusing to reward the selfish survivors and the killers that reward them. It's a sacrifice I am more than happy to make.
-
Colgate.... First I want to clarify that my comment before this one was not directed to you, but the one before it. I do understand what you are saying and that is always a consideration. Fortunately it doesn't happen often so I am not in any danger of garnering negative repercussions. If my complaint was the norm I would simply stop playing the game as it wouldn't be any fun. My point with this post is to say if you are going to play as a killer and going to reward the selfish survivors whose actions prevent the game from being fun for others you may as well not message me about quitting because I don't care in the least.
-
I won't say this is a situation where there is a right or wrong. I will say this is situation where a killer has a choice. They can take the easy road. That's their prerogative. However, I also get to make a choice. I get the choice of how I respond to a selfish survivor and how I respond to a killer that rewards them for that behavior. I get to decide whether or not I have any respect whatsoever for how they play the game. I'm sure you can tell that my level of respect for either is absolutely zero.
And for the record...... in that situation I don't think anyone that quits has done anything wrong.
-
Don't get me wrong. I have unintentionally pulled someone off a hook when the killer is close by and invisible or something like that. Those are not the instances I am talking about. The instances I am referring to are like the one tonight. The killer was standing right beside the hook and fully visible. This person still ran up and pulled me off the hook and was going to repeat the scenario again.
I couldn't care less that any killer is upset when I quit in that circumstance. If you are playing killer and you are going to reward the survivors that are playing selfishly and preventing the game from being fun for others I am more than happy to keep you from getting points for hitting, hanging and killing me also.
-
I'm aware of that perk, but I've NEVER seen this level of the things I'm describing. Plus that perk does not show killers to see the auras of survivors that are close by, but again it's obvious these killers see them too.
I've been playing this game a long time and I've never seen anything like this.
-
I get sick and tired of seeing a new perk come along (killer or survivor) and then it ends up getting changed. The devs should grow a pair and quit trying to cater to those that just want to complain. Are there perks that favor one side or the other? Absolutely. That's part of the game. There are perks that I love as a killer and perks that I despise as a killer. Some of those same perks I may have exactly the opposite feelings about when I play as a survivor. However what I HATE HATE HATE is getting used to a certain perk and then it suddenly changes because people want to whine about it. There are perks that favor survivors and there are perks that favor killers. It makes both sides have to work a little harder to make the game competitive. But the level of swinging the pendulum back and forth gets to be ridiculous. It makes the game less enjoyable for your actual core audience that just wants to play and not have to constantly adapt to rule changes because people want to whine.
