I was referring to the killer but sure go whine all you want. you can't handle a loss. Sorry not sorry.

You quoted MY original post. You asked why open a thread about it.... which is referring to the original post. When I point out the fact you actually took the time to comment on a post that you just think to be such a waste of time you try to claim you were referring to the killer.

You want to call it whining. You can claim I just can't handle a loss. However, let me look..... Did I claim the killer did anything wrong in the game? No. Did I say anything about it wasn't fair? Nope. As a matter of fact I specifically mentioned the killer was playing within the rules of the game.

My whole post was about the message they sent me after the game telling me I had an obligation to play the way they wanted me to play, but sure go obfuscate all you want. Apparently I'm not the one that has problems handling something. Sorry, not sorry.

Why do you have to open a thread on forums about that tho?! Is my question. Just go next. You can't change people's mind on the internet.

But you're wrong. Your comment totally changed my mind. I see now I never should have posted this thread forcing you to waste your time by both reading and commenting on it.

  • I hear all Dwights kick cats and tie the tails of dogs together

  • @terumisan said:

I'd say gen rushing leads to tunneling since if 3 gens pop in the first chase the killer will feel that there is no other choice but to camp/tunnel at least that's how I see it

I think it actually goes both directions. Gen rushing sometimes leads to tunneling and tunneling sometimes leads to gen rushing.

  • As a survivor main I can't really say what survivor I would do without .As for killers I would happily do without both Freddy and Wraith. In my opinion invisibility is the hugest BS ability in the whole game, and that isn't because I do worse against those two killers. The one I do the absolute worst against is Ghostface. For some reason the invisibility thing just seems ridiculous.

  • Had a match earlier where the killer camped the first person they hung. While they were camping this person the rest of us knocked out 3 generators. The moment that 3rd generator got done the killer DC'd. I somehow lost a rank. Not sure how this happens, but there is something inherently broken about how the rank system works

  • I honestly think Kindred is one of the best survivor perks in the game now. It may be the best. I have been giving serious thought to not using it though because of exactly what you are describing. In most games survivors completely ignore the very useful information it gives them.

  • I will state my thoughts on this and be done.

There is this mindset among the people playing this game that they are going to take it upon themselves to punish people that do things they don't like. It doesn't matter if the particular thing they don't like is against the rules or not. If you want to make the argument it should be against the rules I would probably agree with you. That being said.... at this moment it isn't. However, by your own words you are actively trying to get them to break another rule because you don't like something they did.

Having said that.... even if suicide on hook were against the rules you actually hurt the rest of the team by doing this. I mean I get you saying it isn't fair to the rest of the team. Believe me. I am a survivor main. I don't like it. But here's the thing. That survivor you slugged isn't of any more benefit to me and the rest of the team laying on the ground than they would have been had you just let them suicide on the hook.

Not only that but if you really wanted to be fair to the team you would just go ahead and hang that person and let them die. We likely don't know the survivor you slugged was attempting to suicide on hook. By leaving them laying there on the ground you have created a situation where the rest of the team feels the need to waste their time going to heal a person that is just going to DC or suicide the next time they get hung. In other words your attempt to punish the survivor that wanted to die really just takes away time the team could have been doing something other than trying to heal someone that doesn't want to be there.

I truly understand not liking it when someone does this. I get annoyed when my team gets weaker because someone did that. At the same time you aren't doing me or the team any favors by slugging the person and leaving them laying there.

  • While I understand the argument that as a new player he is playing with survivors that are also fairly new that really doesn't negate his point. The point he was making is that the people designing the game intentionally implemented challenges that encourage play that is against the objective of the game regardless of level.

I want to reiterate that I do understand it is people playing the game choosing to take the challenges so seriously that they intentionally throw games in an effort to complete a challenge and actively work against the goal of escaping. Once again though, that doesn't change the fact there would be no challenges to take so seriously had they not been there in the first place.

If you are reading this I want you to understand something. I have been a gamer for a very long time. This is the first game I have every played on a regular basis over such a long course of time. I am saying this because I legitimately believe things like this will be the death of this game. I realize it's going to end sometime. That's inevitable. I just don't want to see it end before it has to because of elements being added to the game that discourage people from playing. Once again, I say that from experience. I have considered no longer playing this game over the last few weeks because this rift/tome stuff has created a situation has made this game the least fun it has ever been for me. As I said in the original post I honestly don't think I would have given this game a chance past a few days if I had just started.

  • I also wanted to make it clear that I understand most of the challenges can be done without obsessing over them. The problem is there are lots of people that are singularly focused on completing a specific challenge.

I can play every match with the mindset that I am going to try to complete my current challenge if possible, but that isn't necessarily my primary goal. However, if I am playing with a couple of people who have the mindset that they are going to complete their challenge and it is their only goal it's still going to screw my game in a major way because they aren't going to be doing anything useful to anyone but themselves.

If their only goal is to complete their challenge and they are not going to do anything else, plus likely DC when their challenge becomes unattainable then they are actively working against the goal of the game.

  • I tried to explain pretty much all of that, and he wasn't under the delusion that it's a team game in that you are trying to make sure everyone else survives. However, when there are challenges that provide objectives that actively works against the goal of escaping I personally think he has a point.

  • @Esheon said:

This may be anecdotal, but I've noticed that it only happens if I let go of the gen at the same time I'm trying to sprint away. If I let go of the gen and wait until the character is standing before I move, no problems.

That is absolutely not anecdotal. I will give that a try. I would absolutely love to have a way to stop that from happening. Taking the extra moment to stand is immeasurably better than a skill check I can't possibly hope to hit.

  • I have had times I have been about to heal someone in front of me. My onscreen prompt will literally say R1 - Heal. I don't move. I don't hit any other part of my controller and the moment I hit R1 I turn around and drop a pallet behind me. I wonder if the game doesn't have some sort of mechanism built in to try to determine what it thinks you are most likely trying to do and does it regardless of what is on the screen

Not calling to do away with boxes altogether. Was simply saying it is ridiculous that you can get one of those thing on your head and go from box to box to box never missing a skill check and still never get it off before it explodes.

Granted, that doesn't happen often. In my opinion after 3 boxes without a missed skill check it should come off. I'm under no delusion it's gong to change regardless of what I think.

The countdown timer on the trap only starts when a generator is completed. Before that, you have infinite time to get the trap off your head. So basically your teammates screwed you over by completing a generator against Pig, knowing you had a trap on your head, without giving you time to at least search a box or two first.

    Thanks. Did not realize that

  • @DWolfAlpha said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/113474/jigsaw-boxes

It has nothing to do with how many boxes you check. When you get the trap put on you, one of the boxes is chosen to unlock it. It's not a numbers game. You have to find the right box.

Learning something new. Is there only one box that will unlock it each time?

  • @Thasard said:

I get it, the RNG for that is terrible, especially if your survivors pop that gen with the RBT on your head. But I think this is small potatoes considering how little The Pig is played.

Understand what you are saying. At the same time the point isn't how often Pig is played. It's the fact that it shouldn't take that many boxes to get one of those off

  • @Hopesfall said:

you're like the 1% of bad RNG for the boxes.. i could spit out 5 traps 10 consecutive games and they'd be removed within 30 seconds

I rarely get them to come off after 1 box. Over half the time it happens by the second. Until tonight I had never had it not happen by the third one. I actually thought there was a limit of 3 as I had never had it take more than that.

  • @Fibijean said:

It sucks when that happens, but it is pretty rare to actually get killed by an RBT, even if you do get unlucky and your key is in the last box. And honestly, it's not a game design problem - it's your teammates' fault for activating your trap early.

I am going to admit to lacking knowledge on what you just said. What do you mean "activating your trap early"?

  • So I will ask again if a Dev can give us some idea of why this is happening, and whether or not it can be fixed

  • Absolutely agree with everyone saying it should be like overcharge. That's all I'm asking for is a chance to actually hit the thing. I don't care if it's while I'm walking, running or just sitting there. It just sucks when I have zero chance.

  • @FriendlyGuy said:

Play in a SWF. You get a decisive (lul) advantage without any downsides and your teammates care about you. Easy win.

I may have to give SWF another try. My experience with it hasn't been good, but it's very limited also. Maybe a few more tries are warranted.

  • @HellDescent said:

There is a high chance I'd tunnel an extremely stealth player. Since in my games they don't do much except hiding, refuse help out or to spit pressure with their teammates, who are all on death hook, while that immersed person hasn't even been seen once and then dies to egc. So I'd rather get them out of my game, if they crouch around the map all game.

I can understand that completely. I wasn't meaning to imply immersed. I do generators. I heal teammates. I unhook. I'm just not good at looping and escaping. So when I say I'm playing stealth I just mean I am going to do those things without the killer seeing me if at all possible because if I get chased it's going to go badly for me.

  • @Peasant said:

If you want to hide auras you are infinitely better off using Distortion from Jeff. Sure, it has limited uses, but the idea is that you use it to find what aura perks the killer is running and then use game sense to avoid aura reads for the rest of the trial.

I had not seen that explained that way. Thanks.

  • Hadn't really thought of it in the aspect of relying on teammates to die. While that wasn't my goal I can see what you're saying. Maybe skip that one. I will chalk it up to coincidence that I was getting tunneled

  • @LordRegal said:

I say this with total honesty:

I am ok with being camped.

I am not ok with my teammates seeing I’m being camped and farming me off the hook anyway.

From your second post it sounds like your teammates were rewarding the camping behavior. That’s the true problem. Had they played intelligently they would’ve had 3-4 gens completed as you were camped and the killer would’ve been extremely punished for the behavior. That is worth my death, every time.

    This! This! This! This!

If the other survivors will just do gens while I am being camped I will ensure I struggle until the last possible second so they get as much time as possible to punish the killer for camping.

At the same time if other survivors are going to run up and reward the camping behavior you can rest assured of one thing. When I get hooked the second time and you attempt to run up and "rescue" me while the killer is standing right there I will stop struggling at precisely the moment you will just miss being able to get me and put you in the crosshairs of the killer.

The devs (specially Stephan Horvat) has mentioned how they wanted to implement this. Granted this was a year or so ago. I’ve always liked the idea and the devs do too, but as you said it’s probably not even relatively close to the top of the priority list. I understand why it wouldn’t be that important to implement as a feature right now.

Glad to know it's something that is at least being considered. I would like to see issues like lag and phantom strikes fixed first.

  • @Waffleyumboy said:

They may be grinding achievements : Taking one for the team / Not today (if you use deliverance)

They may be doing archive challenges

They may want to have more BPs than the others

    They may want to pip

Survivors going for unhook only to be a hero are imo a very rare species.

That's likely true when you put it that way

  • @Lagoni said:

I don't think it's about being a hero. It's probably more about competition.

All 4 survivors are a team, but they are also competing for both blood points, and emblem points. Getting a save is huge for points, but it often looses the game, when people are over altruistic.

It definitely loses games, and that's the majority of what I am getting.

  • @TuckzysGayMeng said:

Im sorry, You’re finding survivors who rush to get the save? Can you direct them to me? I’m sick of being chased for 10 mins to die first hook to a (surprisingly) non camping killer.

I'd be happy to trade some if I could. Again, I am not opposed to saving. Just opposed to unsafe saving that results in no chances to escape.

It's a known server bug where you can get desynced from it. They are working on a fix 😉.

Ok. Hope it gets fixed. It's difficult to play when your running into walls or facing the opposite direction you thought you were facing because you suddenly appeared where you were a few seconds back.

  • @Objectively_speaking said:

Know this, I've purposefully let survivors who go back for their team (not farm) no matter the cost. Just saying it might result in a loss but I think it's better to never leave a man behind.

I admire that thought process in principle. The thing is most killers don't play that way, nor do I expect them to do so. I will readily admit I view things from an extremely pragmatic thought process. If leaving one man will allow 2 others to escape then I view that as the right thing to do.

I do want to clarify something though. If someone wants to go back for the 1 man at the end of the game I don't mind that. When the generators are done, and the gate is open or about to be open and someone goes back for the 1 I don't mind. I do sometimes just to see if it I can. But at that point the gens are done. Escape is possible. Going back at that point is risking nothing other than yourself.

It's the survivors that do nothing but hook rescue from the start of the game and never attempt to do generators that bother me. That makes it incredibly hard for any survivor to escape. It's almost a guaranteed loss for the whole team as no one is getting out without the gens getting done unless someone manages to catch the hatch before the killer.

  • I really wish they would do something about phantom hits after windows. It happens way too often, but I don't know that this is a good solution. Goes to far in the other direction in my opinion.

  • @Alice_pbg said:

I have gone to stage 2 because no survivors left their damn generator, and I have done 4+ generators in a single match because they always left their generators.

Am I running kindred a lot lately, (the buff is amazing) and you would be surprised how little attention people pay to each other...

    People are weird. :p

    People are undoubtedly weird

  • @rch614 said:

Oh when you said hero complex I thought you meant the survivors in endgame that refuse to leave their teammates behind so they end up giving a killer way more than a potential 1k for example. I'm generally one of them.

But no you're talking about farmers / hookrushers that just zerg the moment someone is hooked. Those aren't heroes, they're just bad survivors and / or jerks.

A lot of the times it's just that. Especially if they're running WGLF and BT. They just want their tokens and points. Some others want to farm and then be chased by killer because they hate holding m1 the entire game. Still others just have no awareness and would rather call the killer a camper because they didn't run across the map immediately.

But most are just farmers and do it for points.

Yeah. That's what I am referring to. I need to get to a point I am not playing with those types of survivors. I want to play to win. Don't get me wrong. I want to get points, but I'd like to win sometimes too.

  • @DBDfan12 said:

most survivors i assume just want to keep rank and want to get benevolence they assume, they can out smart you and get away.

Up to this point I am not playing with survivors that are good enough to outsmart a killer in that situation. Maybe I will get there.

  • @SHOOTERRALPHBOY said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/111914/question-for-survivors-with-hero-complex

The main reason besides simply people doing daily challenges or even the archive challenges is because when a survivor is taken out of the game via being hooked the game gets harder to escape and depending on the rank you play survivors usually know how to safely unhook you even with the killer being close by ive saved people without bt with the killer close by because the killer swings and either hits me or hits the survivor still on the hook giving time for the unhook and if the survivor is quick enough both can then escape unscathed or itll end in a trade this is harder to do in the basement but can still work and the other thing i find is the hook dive method which requires 2 people at the hook one runs in making it look like a rescue attempt gets hit on purpose somthe killer chases them and someone else gets the unhook behind the killer now this only works if the killer doesn't tunnel but i hope that answers your question

I have seen those things work. Unfortunately most of the time in the games I am playing it doesn't. I am nowhere close to the lower ranks yet though. I have been playing the game off and on for a long time. I just recently had the opportunity to get serious about it. Hopefully, I will get to lower ranks where I can play with some better players. That's been the hard part though. I am having a hard time lowering my level because I keep playing with survivors that are basically just handing games to killers.

  • @MarsAttacks said:

I think it comes down to that as survivor they know that sitting on hook is boring.so they want to get you off and back into he game as soon as possible. But this very same mentality is what grants the camping killer the ability to camp with no consequence.

I think survivors just need to understand it's not bad to let them sit on the hook a little and progress the gens some more.

But sometimes they hooked survivor just thinks no one is going to come for them so they purposefully die or DC.

Or they don't know if they can trust their random partners to go for the save.

There's a lot of factors that could play into it when playing with randoms. The only true issue I've seen with it that doesn't involve lack of communication is when you see 2 survivors who DEFINITELY see each other and both still keep running for the hook lol.

The last thing you are saying is what prompted me to write this. With the rework of kindred I have been amazed at how many times I have watched survivors run straight to a hook knowing the killer is right there. I know they see the killer. Prior to that I tried to give the benefit of the doubt and assume they just didn't know. But nearly every match now someone is playing kindred. I do most matches. So if I see the killer standing by a hook I know the other survivors do also.

  • @ScottJund said:

I don't know how doing the only fun thing on the survivor side makes them a "hero." They literally just want a multiplayer game.

I get the point you are making. I would dispute it's the only fun thing on the survivor side. As a matter of fact that's kind of the question I am asking. Why is it fun, profitable or whatever to constantly play in a manner that is a guaranteed loss?

  • @Mr_K said:

You play killer and get the best teams.

You play survivor and get the worst teams.

    😉

    Murphy's law.

  • @Waffleyumboy said:

I don't see what this has to do with a hero complex. I don't see much of this at rank 1 tbh

I'm calling it hero complex because so many survivors just have to be the hero and get that person off the hook. As for rank 1 thing.... I am nowhere close to rank 1 yet, so maybe there's hope that eventually I will stop seeing it so often.

  • As a survivor main I agree with you 100%. Camping is a winning strategy only when survivors make it a winning strategy. If survivors would just do gens when a killer camps it would quickly become a horrible strategy. Killers would generally only get 1 or 2 kills per match by camping.

Instead over half of survivors want to be a hero by grabbing someone off the hook regardless of whether or not the killer is standing there or not. I've said it before. I HATE camping, but not because killers do it. I hate it because it makes 50% or more of my matches nothing more than watching 2 or 3 other survivors play hook carousel with the killer. Of course that makes it significantly more difficult for those of us who actually have the goal of escaping.

When I see survivors playing that way I'm rooting for the killer every single time.

  • As a survivor main I hate camping. At the same time I don't think it's toxic and I don't blame killers for doing it. If I played as a killer I'd do it.

The problem with camping isn't the killers. It's the survivors. Camping is a winning strategy because survivors make it that way. In 90% of the games I play a killer is pretty much guaranteed at least 2 relatively easy kills if they camp.

Hook the first person and they can count on at least one other running to the hook trying to unhook regardless of the fact the killer is standing right there. Sometimes you get 2, and occasionally all 3 other survivors running to the hook trying to be the first one there for the easy points from unhooking.

Who can blame any killer for camping? In most games survivors will literally come to them to be slaughtered.

That's why every time I see survivors complain about killers camping I get frustrated. If you want to call out those responsible then you need to call out the survivors that make it a viable strategy.

If survivors would just do gens when a killer camps they could have all 5 gens done by the time the killer has taken down 2 people. Instead many games survivors are lucky to get 2 gens done because they somehow think granting a killer an easy 4k by playing hook carousel is better than having at least a couple escape.

So, if you're a survivor that complains about camping you should blame the right people. Blame the survivors that play to lose by implementing moronic strategy. But blaming killers for taking what's handed to them is ridiculous.

3 different excerpts I read, and I will find those links just to save face, have said they don’t need dedicated servers to Implement DC punishment. The system will still know the difference between killer disconnect, system disconnect or manual disconnect (player dc) 💁‍♂️ But I guess we won’t ever know

I hope you're right and I've misunderstood something. That would be great.

  • Agreed. I've refused to participate in these challenges. They've done nothing but create toxic play at a level I've never seen previously.

If they do it again they'll never get another penny from me because I won't be playing.

It makes no sense to me that they've actually added an element to the game that provides major incentive to play toxic and DC. There's no need to point out that wasn't their intent. I know it wasn't, but it was the end result regardless of intent.

If they continue it will be the end of dbd for me and I'm predicting lots of others.

@mmain What makes you think the tome/rift system will ever end? They have made it pretty clear that there will be more, I expect the next one will be out directly after New Years. Plus, from my understanding, Tome 1 will still be available for people to finish long after the first rift ends. I believe it just won't give you rift fragments anymore.

I hadn't heard that. The last couple weeks there have been challenges that:

    a) are little more than motivation for people to no longer play to win because they're only interested in completed challenges.

    and

    b) are basically an enticement for people to DC the moment they reach a point it's no longer possible to finish a challenge

Are you saying they plan to keep doing these types of things? If that's the case I may as well quit playing now. For me it's not fun playing like it's been the last 2 weeks or so. Playing 10 games to play 2 or 3 where people are actually playing to win isn't worth it to me personally.
