Majority of survivors use the same perk combinations, a lot of survivors do toxic stuff, and now a lot of survivors are complaining about perk rework. If that isn’t sheep mentality I don’t know what is.

Im only recommending what I’ve done and what I will do. I’ll be having fun playing either side.

The only reason there is perk variety for killers is because there is variety in killer abilities.

Remember Freddy. You don't see him that much anymore, but they almost all ran BBQ and Pop. A lot ran STBFL.

Blight. What, I'm guessing 80 percent used to run BBQ, Ruin, Undying, Tinkerer. Then when they nerfed undying, maybe 60 percent ran that build.

Nurses and Oni's running a slug build. I still see plenty of those builds.

Dont use iron will or dead hard and still think this update is way too killer sided.

But I'm sure you can tell me how my kindred, bond, lithe and inner strength build is op.

Same. Rarely used DH or DS. I used to run IW a lot, but not as much over the last two years. The changes to survivor are kind of whatever to me, but the changes to killer seem to be pretty oppressive. Especially against solo players.

I only read posts on this forum, and majority of people who are announcing their departure, are survivors complaining about perk changes, I don’t think I’ve seen a single one about tunneling, gen speed yes.

Read better to post better then. Many have complained about tunneling.

There is no universe in which 164 second gens are ok. That is not even remotely healthy game design

But survivors have strong stuff too!/s

  • I play probably 75 percent survivor. I'm not necessarily quitting, but to me it's not the changes to the survivor perks that have me leery, it's the buffs to the killers that have me asking myself if I want to keep playing much longer. Gen times, mega slow down builds, built in stbfl and brutal. People act like survivors had it easy before this patch. I played 6 survivor games (4 solo, 2 with a couple of friends). Every game but one had a tunneler/proxy camper. The one game that didn't was a slugging twins. Those kind of games aren't fun even if you win (at least for me). Now that stuff has been made stronger. Eh, I'll probably play different games more often.

Also, my grind is completely done, so that also makes playing this game less necessary.

  • Meta mean "most effective tactics available".

I managed to get them to rush P3L1 on all of them from level 40 except the one I actually play in the last 2 months after they announced the prestige reworks, so they're also all P9.

At the end of the day you can always just disregard anything anyone every says by labeling them as a "killer main" or "survivor main" but that doesn't mean what they're saying is wrong. I actually play both sides, although it's 90% killer.

I'm very, very curious to see how the playerbase develops over the next few months. Look, I'm having a blast cause it's so easy, but I think the average killer won't just let people go, spread hooks and play nice when they're clearly meeting someone newer. I think we're about to lose a lot of casual players.

Exactly. I was lol'ing pretty hard at several posters on here that said something along the lines of "now killers can actually play nice and not rely on tunnelling and camping". Bro, you didn't have to play that way before this patch. Now that it's easier to camp and tunnel, killers are going to stop doing that? Sure, Jan...

  • Old Freddy was great. Just a lot of people that didn't understand him, cried that he was too weak. He had weaknesses, don't get me wrong. But really, he didn't need a rework. He just needed a shorter dream period (7 seconds down to 5, down to 3 with addon's). Rework Freddy was a little strong, but really it was just a blight situation of everyone running the same build (BBQ/Pop/Stbfl). Now he's super clunky. Which is really what slinger and billy are. It seems like whenever they rework they just make a killer clunkier and then pat themselves on the back. It's too bad.

So no different than before this patch where all survivors wanted to do was E key to a pallet, extending the chase artificially with no skill of their own, just so the other 3 could do all the gens in 4-5 minutes?

So it really IS true. Survivors just want fast games. :D

Time favors the killer my dude. Survivors want to win.

I literally just did 3 games as a survivor in solo queue. Its pretty much the only way I play survivor, I play stealth Cheryl with her white coat and everything and am always one of the last few hooked and usually pip. Thankfully the last game I played my team didn't kill themselves on hook and we almost won.

What a story of inspiration. Lol. "I stealthed, took agro as late as possible, and we all died". Oh wow!

Yeah but once again all the killer mains said "bbq doesnt need a nerf it's only useful for the bloodpoints!" and here we are and people still running it like I knew they would. BBQ is an insanely strong perk and missed out on the nerf train because it also gave bp.

Lol. There are so many people that probably just forgot to switch their builds. I probably will when I get home and play.

  • Every player in the game is p3 including all universal perks. I've done the math and I've completed over 97.5 percent of the grind to get everyone p3 all perks. This update will get everyone to p6 all perks.

If this update never happened I would still be able to get everyone to p3 all perks by the next chapter.

  • @MrMori said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3069389#Comment_3069389

Certainly reduces the grind for existing players.

Also OPs math was terrible and didn't take loads of obvious factors into account.

The biggest issue with the new system is getting all perks on one character. That will take longer, since spending 1.5m bp for a prestige to get Tier 1 perks for free is more expensive than getting to 40 then unlocking.

But getting all perks on all characters? Not even remotely close to how it was before. Far, far better. Also no more nonsense about prestige or no prestige.

Also, survivors will probably get far more BP overall with the queue bonus and increased caps. And though BBQ bonus is gone, plenty of killers can max out 2 or even 3 categories and really take huge advantage of BP offerings now.

    It's good. You'll see.

It does. But for me it's only going to decrease the grind by like 2.5 percent. Not a huge deal for me. Future grinds will be lessened quite a bit though :)

    This.

They don't want to announce a date yet because they're likely testing it right up until the day or two before, so aren't 100% certain it will be ready in time.

If you want them to give a weeks notice every time, be prepared to have those dates delayed by a week, or just have every patch come out a week later than intended to give them that leeway.

I think for a major update like this, they should probably differ from their normal patch rollout and give people some heads up. That's just my take though.

100% this. Find a totem on the swamp map or Midwich.

I've been playing a long time. Totems used to be WAY easier to find. The locations now are about as good as it is gonna get.

Some are even hard as hell to find in the farm maps.

My Solo games weren't too hard on the PTB (used mostly meme perks + SC/BK)

Corrupt Intervention being nerfed/action starting sooner/weaker Ruin is enough to keep me playing Solo.

The patch doesn't really impact the strength of either role but....

    DOOOOOOOM!

To be fair, what can you really tell during the PTB anyway. Matchmaking is always weird on the PTB. Half the players don't really play the way they would normally play a game. I'm not saying you can't learn anything from it, but I don't think playing a few PTB games can really give you much of a read on things.

The ones leaving dbd after the update are the survivor mains hwo love to win... Knowing that they have to put in more effort and winning not being as easy as before makes them cry cause they can't tbag killers or macro flashlights anymore

Disagree. I die in most of my games. Now I'll die in more of my games. And truthfully, that's kind of discouraging. But what's really lame, is that camping has been made easier and more rewarding. I can live with dying in a video game, but just sitting on a hook getting camped. It's already prevalent right now. It's going to be worse at the patch.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/334323/how-many-survivors-are-gonna-stop-playing-after-the-update-next-tuesday

why did they do it like 6 years later and not something in the beginning of the years of DBD?

Well they did something right now, better than to remain the same forever.

Many of my friends are gonna uninstall/stop playing after the update

Survivors have grown accustomed to being way more powerful lol

Now that the killer is getting basically a quality of life update, survivors left and right are going to leave because they don't have as much power anymore.

They completely nerfed all perks to garbage and they want us to get used to new perks..

Not a single word here is true.

Many camping and tunneling after the update which is gonna be really annoying.

Ah yes, that 2.5% instant regression on a generator when I kick it will really help me camp a hook! That extra 10 seconds that can be mitigated by 2 survivors doing the same generator is gonna make the survivors hook themselves in the basement, I don't even need to hit them!

Oh please, killers have been at the short end of this game for years on end even before Dead Hard and BT basekit were a thing. Survivors got like 200 different buffs up until now while killers got like 10. But relax, my 10% faster pallet breaking is still gonna make me struggle for a 3K all the same.

In the last 4 years, there have been plenty more killer buffs and survivor nerfs then the other way around. Not sure if you're trolling or not, to be honest.

  • I've been saying most of this game's issues stem from it being an elimination game for a while

Maybe something like that could be for DBD2, but I don't think they'd let Survivors change their load outs. I've sometimes wondered what DBD2 could look like. I thought maybe there'd be a "story mode" where you have to escape from the Entity once and for all.

Your idea of changing the mechanics with having people spawn in, and Survivors having to choose to work on gens/do a ritual, is certainly interesting.

Lol, who would be dumb enough to buy DBD 2?

Really? Lose 8k bloodpoint for attempting to get off hook? Are you serious?

Yeah. Super serious. Maybe 1 out of 100 Kobe attempts are actually worth doing. Most are just survivors trying to troll and/or kill themselves early.

  • I find killer to be boring because in general most games aren't very challenging. I'd say probably on the low end about 60 percent of my games are 3ks. And I mainly play as m1 killers. Sure, I lose plenty of games too, but most games I'm not getting squashed. I'll do my usual killer game per pay until the update. At that point I'll be p6 all perks on everyone so I can devote my time to playing more games in general. Probably still play when a new time or killer comes out, but definitely not as much.

  • @Shroompy said:

    theyre not in already!??

I'm pretty sure most of the killers I play against are bots. They seem programmed to stay close to the hook at any cost. They also seem programmed to leave their short lived chase to always go back to the hook. Very enthralling game play...

  • Fifth game was the same. Can't wait to take a break from this game once the update comes out.

  • @Veinslay said:

They're just doing their objective efficiently

So then the real meta shift would be to do something about camping and tunneling then?

  • Adept Killer. Way too hard and moreso, luck dependant. Change it to a 4k or single pip.

Diversion. Same games happen where you don't even get enough terror radius to use it (against Myers, Ghost Face, Wraith, Sadako). Start people with one pebble, and then use the terror radius as a means to replace it.

That it's an elimination game. I've posted this a few times recently and I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I think a lot of the issues and us vs them come from the fact that this is an elimination game. Survivors of course don't want to get camped or tunneled and killers know that often times they're best means of winning is to tunnel or camp. If this game was time based (survivors need to power gens within 10-12 minutes and hooks slowed down gens in terms of a survivor needs to unhook plus a percentage increase to gen repair speed) it would promote killers leaving the hook to push the remaining survivors off gens. If gens aren't completed in time, killer wins if gens are completed, end game is still a thing and at that point survivors can be mori-able. But everyone is guaranteed to play the game (actually play it) instead of getting tossed out four minutes into the game.

Map offerings/variety - I don't think survivors should be able to play map offerings. I think killers should be able to. I think they should program games where there is no map offering in a way where it's impossible to play the same map twice in a row.

RPD. Kill switch this until it's reworked. Then probably kill switch it again, because no offense, but I have no trust in the devs to make this map enjoyable at all.

Edit: one last thing. Kobe/unhook attempts. They should cost in game blood points. Very rarely does it even make sense to Kobe. Most people are just dickbags that want to Kobe in your face for blood points (if you do this, you should stop) or they're trying to leave the game without disconnecting. Make the attempts cost 8k blood points that you've earned in game. Oh, you got downed 15 seconds in the game and now you're salty and want to Kobe yourself to death. Get effed. You can't because you don't have any blood points to spend. Sooooorryy. Make the second stage missed skill checks cost blood point instead of shortening the hook timer too. Maybe not as much, but you should not have such easy access to throw the game for everyone else because PvP games are too hard for you. Play single player games and close out the app whenever you're a salty little wimp. Save the PvP for people that can actually hang.

Edit 2: protection stacks for WGLF and Mettle of Man. If course with WGLF it's about to be a moot point, but I'd actually use Mettle of Man a lot more if I didn't have to be up to my nuts in guts rear-ending a fellow survivor in order to gain a stack. I had a match yesterday where I took two protection hits and neither registered. I must have been at most 6 meters away when I took those hits. Like c'mon. If they're in chase and you take a hit, it really shouldn't even matter what the distance is, you're literally protecting the other survivor and you should get credit for taking the damn hit. You should have to bump and grind up against them to get the stack. Fix this.

  • I have a canoe trip on Wednesday. So I won't be able to check out the new update really until the following Monday. I will have all killers and survivors with all perks and level 8 or 9. So with the grind done, I'm less likely to play as much anyway. But I'm also pretty skeptical about the survivor changes anyway. If I really don't like what I see, I'll probably take a decent break. But who knows, maybe I'll like the changes.

  • @ShyPirate said:

To get P3 you need 170 total perk tiers.

3 pages of tier 3 perks would only be 135 perk tiers. 4 complete pages of t3 perks would be 180 tiers and would be enough for p3 after the update.

    Here's the breakdown:

    P1 for 70 -119 tiers

    P2 for 120 - 169 tiers

    P3 for 170 - 219 tiers

    P4 for 220 - 269 tiers

    P5 for 270 - 319 tiers

P6 for 320+ tiers (only survivor can have this many)

Also note that characters currently prestiged will get a bonus prestige level for each current level (so a current p1 would become p2, p2 would become p4, and p3 would become p6).

Are these numbers still accurate? Devs? Mods?

  • No. I won't. If they have it so what? Many will no longer use it (myself included).

  • @Tiufal said:

Easy fix: hook relocation. Still dont know why devs are so ignorant on that topic.

Yeah. That's the easy solution and it's one they came up with (with the cages of atonement), which makes it more baffling that they've never changed it.

My take is to change it to a time based game instead of an elimination game. Survivors have 'x' amount of time to power the gens. For each hook the gens slow down by a certain percentage. If the killer holds court all survivors die or lose. If it gets to end game (gates opened or even just gens powered) everyone is now exposed and mori-able.

This would benefit survivors because they wouldn't get tunneled or camped because really there would be no advantage to doing that. End game would always be scary, but at least you would last long enough to get there or if not you get to play the game for at least 10 minutes and get to score more than 4,000 blood points.

  • @Ryuhi said:

I mean ironically the perks that help solo the most are the ones people are never willing to use, Windows/Kindred/Empathy. They give you tremendous amounts of information you can use to make decisions as if you had the knowledge of an SWF. Instead they double down on crutch second chances and cry its necessary.

The only meta perks i've been using for ages are spine chill and dead hard, and only as a matter of preference. they've always been the first two i switch off for any challenges that require other perks or playstyles. BT was never necessary if you were able to lead the killer away from the hook in chases instead of trying to unhook right in front of their faces. and if they ignored you? you should be pumping out gens to punish their decision. Leading a killer away from a hook or potential 3gen is incredibly strong at resetting their pressure, but people dont want to bother learning things like that when they can get BT at basekit and get the perk itself buffed to boot.

It's not that people don't want to lead the killer away. It's often that the killer just stays close to the hook. Even if you manage to leave them away a little bit, if they don't see an easy hit/down they immediately turn back to the hook.

But yeah, if a killer is actually cool enough not to proxy camp or tether themselves back to the hook than sure, BT isn't necessary.

I mean, obviously the devs disagree with your take or else they wouldn't make BT basekit.

  • No survivor nerfs will change a killers behavior on tunnelling or camping. It's quite an optimistic take that killers are going to change their strategies due to longer gen times and the meta being butchered.

And I say this as a guy that rarely used dead hard or DS. So it's not like I'm so sad about those being changed. I just don't suspect killers will all of a sudden take it easy on survivors.

Is a skill check and a button press a condition lol? Both these perks are meta af cause they are provided for free by just doing anything. Also when was the last time u ever saw any of the other perks other than deliverance ig.

Yes. They are by definition a condition of using the perk.

  • Lol. "Unfair advantage". That is your language towards SWF. I'd argue that there are advantages to SWF, but I can't think of anything unfair about it.

That would be like me saying killers have an unfair advantage playing against solo players because solo players often DC or suicide on hook. Killers are therefore cheating. I don't say that though, because I know it's not cheating even though killer definitely has a leg up in most games against four solo players.

Ultimately, the game creators decide what is cheating and what isn't. It's no different than any other game or any other sport.

  • If the people who make the game say something isn't cheating, then it isn't cheating. Period. End of story.

  • I think it would have been nice to get something more impactful than a different portrait. At the end of the day it's not a deal breaker for me. My goal was always to p3 all perks on all the killers and survivors. By the time the update hits I'll be at around 98 percent of that goal. Which is still pretty good. After that, I no longer care about the grind or blood points even. I'll probably just save my blood points for whatever new chapter comes out so I can get them at all perks and call it a day.

I suspect between future grinds being pretty much minimal for me moving forward and the fact that I'm not liking the perk shake up, I think I'll play this game quite a bit less. It will be nice to play it because it sounds fun to get a few games in, instead of feeling like I need to grind so hard.

And that is really the best reward BHVR could give me really.

  • @Annso_x said:

I already main survivor solely because killer queues are too long at the time I play... but i don't think it'll be a significant increase tbh, if anything some solo q will switch to swf, but I don't think the number of people switching from survivor to killer (or quitting the game) will be noticeable. The queue will be longer on the first few days of the patch's release, but that's usually the case everytime anyway

Same. For months, my survivor queues are almost instant. For killer it's about 5 minutes. Not a long time, but I'd just assume play solo than wait to play killer.

I do think the killer queue times will increase as well. I don't think it will be 30 minutes though. Probably closer to 8-10.

  • I think this game would be much better if it wasn't an elimination game. It would be much better if it were simply do gens to power the gates within 12 minutes or everyone dies. The amount of hooks the killer gets slows gens down. You'd still have the killer survivor chase interaction. You'd still have the killer/survivor stop gens action. You could raise the stakes where if you're downed during end game, you're mori-able.

But the worst thing in this game in my opinion is loading into a game and then getting hard tunneled or hard camped out in five minutes. Ending the game with like 4k blood points.

That's my unpopular DBD opinion, but I stand by it. I also think that's why there is such a tit-for-tat in terms of survivors and killers disrespecting each other so hard.

  • @Ksekwlothreftis said:

I dont think perks should have downsides. What they should have is conditions. Half the killer perks require u to meet a certain condition in order to get value from it. Hex perks like ruin or devour need to stay alive to potentionally get value and have to further meet another criteria to actually do smth. Regression perks like pop and call of brine require u to run to a gen and kick it along to get value with another condition that needs to be met like getting a hook for pop or having the gen being untouched for cob. This might seem killer sided but i cant think of a single survivor perk that i see commonly used that has a condition to it that makes the survivors go out of their way to earn it so dont come at me screaming about autodidact or the rock throwing perk or head on

    DS - Skill Check

    Dead Hard - press 'x'

    Deliverance - Safe unhook requirement

Diversion - Need to be in terror radius

Stake Out - Need to be in terror radius

Detective's Hunch - Need to complete generator

Autodidact - Need to hit two skill checks before you get any value

Head On - need to be in locker for five seconds

I'm sure there are others. These are just some I'm thinking of off the top of my head.

  • I think for something to be a perk it should not come with a downside. Not just in this game, but just in general.

  • I had two on Sunday. I usually get one about once a week or two. I'm not saying it's an everyday thing, but it's not exactly rare either.

  • Yeah. Sorry as a survivor. I want to be in the match for more than three minutes. ######### me, right?

  • @dugman said:

I think "camping" is an ambiguous word that can mean either "Face camping" which is actually standing in place defending a hook or so called "proxy camping" which is just generally defending a section of the map that includes a hook in it.

    • Face Camping is something the devs have acknowledged as something they want to discourage since it's not that exciting for everybody involved, and they've experimented with trying to find a system to steer killers to be more proactive but haven't found one that both encourages killers to seek out survivors but that doesn't also break something else. So the problem isn't a lack of general interest in encouraging more proactive playstyles, it's finding an actual practical detailed solution.
    • Proxy Camping on the other hand isn't a problem, other than in the minds of sore losers maybe? It's just zone defense, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it and no particular reason the game needs to "address proxy camping".

I'd say it depends on when you're proxy camping. At 5 gens? Nah, you're a dweeb. No sore loser about it. At 2 gens? Fair enough.

  • Gone up against two insidious bubba's today. This game is 6 years old and this is still a thing? Bizarre.

  • For me, I have fun most days. Now I have a rule if I have two bad matches in a row, I switch roles. If my third game sucks I quit for the day. I don't mean losses either, but games that just suck.

But to answer your question when I used to really fight through a string of terrible games it was pretty much because of the grind. I'm now less than two weeks from being 100 percent p3 all perks on everyone. I'll no longer have to grind. And I'll probably play quite a bit less. I have no interest in grinding passed whatever level it puts me to after the update (i.e. have to get to level 20 on all characters)

1 … 3 4 5 6 7 … 30
