  • Camping is always okay, it's just not always a good idea. The devs have clearly stated that it isn't against the rules and is even a valid tactic. If you camp the entire game, you're morally in the clear - just don't expect to win.

If the exit gates are powered and you have NOED, camping is definitely a good idea. I've turned 1K into 4K countless times because the survivors were arrogant enough to attempt a rescue under those conditions.

Just keep in mind that survivors in this game are extremely entitled. Their "code of honor" consists of rules for the other side only; they can still play as dirty as they please and feel fine about themselves. Feel free to ignore it.

Some of them just want to win and throw a tantrum whenever they don't. Feel free to give them a taste of their own medicine in the endgame chat if they start it, but avoid swearing and overt insults (these are against the rules) and stick to subliminal trolling and sarcasm ("you guys really need to practice more", "well, maybe you wouldn't have been tunneled if you weren't so easy to kill", etc.). Pointing out that they broke the rules by calling you names and telling them you're filing a report usually works, also (I don't usually actually file a report, though, but that's just me).

Personally, I don't camp unless the exit gates or powered or some survivor or group of survivors really pissed me off somehow. Extreme BMing, going for a flashlight save every time I pick someone up to the point where I have no hooks into the endgame, and especially anyone who switched to a flashlight or (formerly) a key at the last second in lobby (that ######### gets you killed in any of my games - I'll eat a de-pip and basically throw the overall match just to punish you).

    I call that Tuesday.

It's actually Thursday right now, and I'm pretty sure it was Wednesday when that post was written and the game in question happened, so you'd be wrong to call it Tuesday, but.

One day I hope I'm good enough for steamrolling a sweat squad to just seem like just a normal day to me, yeah.

If you're looking at survivor for 2 minutes because you're afraid to pick them up I think that's a you problem. You can chase them off, use lightborn, look at a wall, use franklins etc

Well, I don't usually do that. I'm thinking of one game in particular where I did wait around just to see how long before the survivor would go away and let me pick up her teammate. Didn't run LB or Franklin's, and she had knocked more than one kill out of my hands. She got tunneled and facecamped eventually, which she was extremely upset about in endgame chat, which is where I invented the term. I didn't feel like she had any right to be angry about my play tactics when she was doing essentially the exact same thing.

I usually slap them once and run them off, especially now that Vanity Mirror's been buffed (yes, I can see you hiding behind that rock).

Was just about to ask. First time I've seen this one. If it's just survivors following the killer with a flashlight to get saves, I'd say it's pretty good since they're being useless all match.

If it's a survivor who camps pallets, drops them and blinds the killer, I'd just drop chase, or in the case of OP with lightborn, it's again pretty good since they are too cocky and you usually can get free hits.

Yes, I invented this word to describe a survivor who camps a killer with a flashlight. The kind who will sit there and stare at you for two minutes waiting for you to pick up the survivor you just downed, even at expense of the gens. I slug people like this, because there's not really another counterplay other than running perks or being able to consistently avoid flashlight beams (I can probably do it 80% of the time, but some survivors are better than others).

    @TragicSolitude said:

Congrats. It feels good to be rewarded for playing smart. :)

I always run Lightborn. It saves me a lot of frustration. More than once a survivor has disconnected when they realized they couldn't blind me. If I don't run Lightborn, I end up with three survivors finding flashlights in chests and then I need a four-man slug before I can attempt to hook anyone.

I used to always run Lightborn, but... man, that's an entire perk slot. I'll run it if I see two or more flashlights in lobby and I have a slot to spare. If I see three or four, it'd be suicidal not to run it. I've noticed I see less flashlights in the lobby past few months; I think a lot of them are properly scared of Lightborn at this point...

The only thing I see here that indicates them being sweaty, is them breaking a 4 gen.

An actual tourney squad would probably wipe the floor with you, since they do everything in their power to maximize gen efficiency. And Im afraid to tell you that going for flashlight saves, clicking, tbagging and swarming hooks aint being efficient on gens

That group was likely dying of laughter till the very end

This might not have been the greatest, most talented, most skilled SWF to have ever played the game in its history. It seems really important to you to hear me say that, so I admit it. They were definitely very practiced, however.

And, in all fairness, you don't get to genrush against my builds. My Legion was Deadlock/Thana/Ruin/Lightborn (last perk is usually Undying) with the Broken and Mangled addons, and it was a small two-story map where they couldn't easily hide from Killer Instinct. I had people scattered across the map looking for Ruin, and when it was done, they were scattered across the map trying to heal themselves/each other or loop me (they say good survivors don't heal against Legion, but they will if Thana is in play, esp with gen regression perks). If Ruin remains in play for any amount of time, those gens ain't getting done.

My main Michael build (who is my main killer) is Dead Rabbit, Vanity Mirror, M&A, Ruin, BBQ (or Surveillance/Deadlock), and Undying (or Lightborn/NOED). No terror radius, regular speed, instant gen regression, can see you through walls. Good luck with those gens, hope you have Spine Chill.

Also, from what I hear, the main reason I'd get the floor wiped with me is that "tourney" games don't allow the use of any reasonable perks or tactics, and most killer builds are basically Spies/Sloppy Butcher/Bitter Murmur/Brutal Strength.

And no, the guy in the endgame chatbox was anally discomforted.

I remember a match with trapper two days ago. I got at least 2 swf or 3. Two of them had head on and flashlights. They both stunned me in a house. Lucky me I trapped them in a house with basement and I had starstruck lol. I killed them all even if they tried to escape from basement with head on, I didn't let them. I had no reason to leave the basement as long 3 of them were there. One on hook and 2 in lockers with head on. The innocent survivor was mad on his teammates. Pretty sure he was a random. I would also be mad if my team is trying to bully instead of doing gens and objectives.

Nice. Yeah, Starstruck is the only reason I want Trickster (other than pure completion).

I didn't think there were any Stadia players.

I forgot that was even a thing tbh.

I would imagine that most of us who still play on Stadia use it to play on platforms that DBD doesn't support and switch between Stadia and PC using the cross-progression feature.

I highly recommend it if you want a fun, reliable, usable way to play DBD on mobile (with cross-progression). Can't stand the DBD mobile game, myself.

Stadia's marketing was laughably bad and targeted all the wrong people, but it works well for what it is. Also have CP2077, ESO and the Doom games on there (which I also have on Steam). It's not going anywhere, despite all the negative press.

    @The_C12H15NO2 said:

Congrats, glad you had a good game against salty swf. it isn't the sweatiness of the teams which bothers me. it's the general poor character you typically see. The only thing missing from this match was some dc after you outplayed them. One positive from that swf at least.

Well, two of them hid in lockers and a snowman, respectably, without any intention of trying to win/further the game, then tauned me in the endgame chat for not being able to (read as: not trying to) find them. They didn't strike me as the model of sportsmanship.

It's always great to steamroll a bully squad. I dare say that there isn't a better feeling in the world as killer than getting a 4K on that kind of group, especially if it's due to their own hubris (even though it's not useful in 90% of matches, it's why I run Bloodwarden as catching jerk SWFs F'ing around only to find out is BWs bread and butter).

    Agreed.

Good job bro, I wish I could say the same but I was one of many that got destroyed by a 4 man squad as a newbie

Am I still a newbie? Been playing for a little over a year and have 1000+ hours. Maybe.

I don't usually get "destroyed" by teams like this anymore, but a solid 4K is a rarity. I can usually manage 2K, and then 1-2 of those usually happen during endgame collapse. But I don't usually outplay them so well in the first half of the game that they go into hiding with two gens left, especially not on Gideon's when Ruin is gone in the first minute.

Flashlight, tbagging, etc. Is not sweaty

Sweaty is doing everything in your power to win, that would mean bringing the best stuff and using the best strategies

These arent it chief, thats just your generic bully squad

Constantly going for flashlight saves and taking protection hits, instantly destroying hexes, swarming me when carrying survivors, teaming up for unhooks, running towards me with a flashlight every time I got a down, favorable map offerings and good flashlight addons, looping, trying to wait me out and bait me away from the gens after they four-genned themselves... more than sweaty enough for my taste. Their goal was to win, not to have fun, and I met them at their level and succeeded. It was a triumph.

I wouldn't have won if I hadn't run Lightborn. I caught them by surprise a number of times.

    @Yatol said:

what's wrong with being sweaty, flashlight camping ,body blocking or being in a SWF?

Nothing. Just like there's nothing wrong with facecamping, tunneling, and slugging. Different people play the game different ways.

This thread isn't about condemning those people for being who they are, it's about me patting myself on the back for beating their asses when the odds were against me. I don't usually win when I play against people like that.

    @glitchboi said:

    No way.

After 10 months, I found a #########' Stadia player. I thought it would take longer, but here we are.

Actually, I play on PC as well, but Stadia was what got me into DBD. It was free for subscribers a while back, so I played it and loved it. Bought some DLC and became addicted.

I ended up cancelling my Stadia subscription and bought the game on Steam, then ran out of hard drive space, deleted it, and bought the game on Stadia (so no need for subscription - I only use Stadia for DBD and CP2077, anyhow) until I get a bigger hard drive.

Note that Stadia isn't very playable on Windows (don't know if it's all the telemetry in the background or what; constant glitching), but it works well on Linux, mobile, and Chromecast.

DBD is going to support Linux at some point, as confirmed by BHVR, but it's worth it for playing on mobile if you have a controller. There's a slight (0.1 secondish) input lag, but it's still more playable than the DBD mobile game. And there's cross-progression.

  • Exposed. When I play survivor, I've been running Dead Hard an awful lot lately, but I don't rely on it. I also run Self-Heal, so I'm usually healed at the beginning of a chase, which means exhaustion only means I get one less hit before being downed. Exposed means an instadown regardless, and it usually also means either the killer is targeting me specifically or slowdown because everyone is running off of gens and into lockers or corners to keep from getting downed.

  • I would kill to see Pennywise in the game.

I also hope they eventually figure out how to get Child's Play in there eventually... Maybe you could play as Jennifer Tilly as a basic M1 killer so you could hook survivors and then jump between her and various Chucky dolls a la Twins.

  • I've started playing Legion as a secondary/tertiary killer in the past couple of months, and he's severely underrated. I think he's a solid B-tier killer with the right builds. I usually run Ruin/Undying/Thana/Deadlock + some combination of Iridescent Button/Defaced Smiley/Legion Pin/Fuming Mix Tape. It works surprisingly well - 4K more than half my games and get Merciless almost as often. If one of the hexes spawns in a decent location and you manage a good three-gen, you can keep the game going indefinitely until players suicide or ragequit. He even does pretty well on The Game if you have the Iridescent Button addon. Legion is also the best killer for piping, hands-down.

The key to winning with Legion is to use gen slowdown perks and keep everyone injured. The Ruin + Thana combo means that players will have to heal constantly even if they don't want to, and you can buy even more time by inflicting Mangled and Broken via addons. As long as you keep putting pressure on the gens, survivors will be getting hooked more than gens are popping. Even though gens don't regress when they're being blocked, Deadlock ensures that the survivor will still be off of the gen for at least a few seconds once it's unblocked unless they waste time camping the gen (always walk by to check), and it also gives you some low-key tracking ability, though you can also replace it with Surveillance if you're brave and don't have Fuming Mix Tape.

I think it would be a mistake to rework him completely, because he really his fun to play with the right build when you put the effort into him, but a buff would be nice (maybe make some of his addons stronger). Without certain perks, he's a C or D-tier killer at best. As far as M1 killers go, though, he's one of the better ones (unless you count Spirit and Nurse). Clown, Trapper, and Ghostface don't have any insanely overpowered builds the way that Legion and Michael do.

  • Nurse needs a third blink and the option to see your blink locations as basekit, faster recharge, lower cooldown after blinks, and some kind of aura-reading ability also added to basekit. Also, after she kicks a gen, it's blocked for thirty seconds, during which time it regresses at 300%, and the last survivor who was working on it is instantly downed and suffers from Broken and Mangled for the duration of the match.

The game was so much more fun before the release of SBMM. As survivor i still get a lot of teammates who do nothing all game and as killer i only get sweaty matches. SBMM makes people play like sweats. It's not like i'm not having fun anymore but DBD was just so much more fun before the release of SBMM.😔

Really? I haven't noticed a difference, except that now I don't have to worry about how well I'm playing. Since the pips and ranks are no longer tied to matchmaking, and I don't lose ranks if I have to do a daily with a killer I don't like, I don't worry about whether I pip or not on every single game. I've noticed I'm piping more often than I was, too - maybe the lack of pressure means I'm playing better.

I still sometimes get matches as survivor where the other three idiots will spend the entire game getting hooked and unhooking each other in some forgotten corner of the map until they die; meanwhile, I do the only three gens that get done and they have the audacity to call me out in endgame chat and ask "wHy WeReNt YoU hElPiNg YoUr TeAmMaTeS??!!!!111"

But before SBMM, every game was like that in Yellow Ranks, and it was hard to even get out because everyone else was always killer mains doing dailies, Ash dropping every pallet on the map, David with No Mither T-bagging the killer and misjudging the distances to vault locations, and drooling Bill mains who would unhook you right in front of the killer's face. You were lucky to get a pip - you had to do gens, bait the killer, heal, and just generally ######### around the entire match. At least this way, all you have to do is outlast the other idiots most of the time and you get transferred away from the bad players most games.

  • If you really want to do something about it, run Blood Warden. There's nothing better than watching the smug little ######### stop dead in their tracks when they realize they should have run out the gates thirty seconds ago instead of standing there so they can T-bag you.

Bonus points for NOED. I've been known to turn 1K into 4K every once in a while thanks to those perks alone.

Do remember it's just a game, though. It's nothing to really get upset about. (Hell, I T-bag at the gates when I play survivor.)

We have only mentioned this with relation to Steamdeck which we've confirmed DbD will be available for - we do not have a date for this however, but we did say to not expect it at launch, which is in Feb 2022 I believe.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but when you say "only with relation to Steam Deck", do you mean that someone, somewhere is pushing for EAC Proton support to be enabled only for Steam Deck and not for other platforms that Proton supports (i.e., desktop Linux)? Because I'm sure that would make me and a lot of other people really mad. I deleted my Windows partition after DBD committed to supporting Proton (my hard drive is too small) and have been playing on Stadia since (Stadia is actually playable on Linux - had nothing but trouble with it on Windows - but there's still a tiny bit of input lag and the controls stop responding for a few seconds once in a while, meaning it's not the best for competitive games).

I don't think it's currently possible to enable EAC Proton support for Steam Deck without doing so for desktop Linux, and there'd probably be some way to hack around it since I'm using the same OS (Arch Linux) that Steam OS 3.0 will be based on, but... If some companies are trying to separate Proton support on the Steam Deck from Proton support on other devices, there'll be a massive unholy shitstorm directed at said companies and Valve.

If you just meant that DBD will only officially support the Steam Deck, and we're on our own if we want to run it on other Linux platforms (similarly to how Steam only officially supports Ubuntu LTS, but it'll run just as well as Arch or Gentoo or Debian or whatever else) and I'm just being schizo, then nvm.

  • @omano said:

I have two games that keep me from formatting my Windows 7 SSD for now, it is Vermintide 2 and Dead by Daylight, because of EAC (and Insurgency Sandstorm but I don't really play it anymore). and I have to admit, I don't really play them because when I feel like rebooting on Window,s there is always a huge patch and I simply go back to Linux..

The silence from BHVR is worrying though, acknowledging this request doesn't cost much, and adding the Linux support in EAC wouldn't cost anything. It's a win-win situation, players can finally play from Linux, and it is good PR, everyone wins.

I wouldn't worry too much. It's only been like four days since Proton support for EAC was released (though it was announced a while ago), and they might not have even had a chance to give it a test run yet. If we're unlucky, they might drag their feet, but the Steam Deck is no small thing, and they'll want to support it. DBD will come to Linux.

  • @BastardKing said:

Ever since the DC penalty was implemented, the next thing people do is just struggle on first hook until they hit second, then miss two checks to die. This needs to be bannable too. The number of people who use this as a way to not fight a killer they don't want to or throw a tantrum and screw their team is too high. It happens in about 50% of my survivor games and 25% of my killer games.

It is LESS defensible than a DC, because a DC can happen due to internet issues or crashes. This can ONLY be done intentionally.

Number of Games today with a DC or one hook suicide: 4/7

This is still better than it ones before skill checks were added to the hooks. Now you have a few seconds to save survivors that are trying to suicide.

    @Seraphor said:

There are still legitimate scenarios where you would want to die faster.

    • When the killer has downed everyone and they're just wasting your time.
    • When there's one remaining survivor and they're standing on the hatch, and you want them to escape.
    • When the game is literally unbearable, the killer is hacking or holding the game hostage for other survivors, and you have no reason to try to hold out any longer, and don't want to be forced to DC and lose everything.

I'll add one: Everyone else is sitting on gens halfway across the map and is just using your hook as a way to keep the killer checking the area away from the gens. This is defensible (and I won't suicide, just to give the killer the finger and buy my teammates some time) if the killer is blatantly camping, but otherwise, it's a dick move, and I see it once or twice every 10-20 games.

You can call it "throwing a tantrum" or whatever, but I think it's far more petty for every single one of my teammates to ignore the fact that I need help than for me to leave the game when they apparently don't need me around anyway.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2521338#Comment_2521338

When there's four survivors sure, but for each survivor that's gone, that's room for another zombie.

Maybe as a rare add-on, have any survivors that were sacrificed while infected, respawn as an additional zombie.

The issue probably isn't the fact that the game can't support having an extra character model onscreen so much as the fact that the zombies are AI-based and some currently supported processors wouldn't be able to handle that.

  • It's only a matter of time before BHVR acts on this. Even if they don't care about Linux desktop users (and they should; the huge outpouring of support in this thread shows that plenty of us play the game), they have every reason in the world to want the game to work on Steam Deck. (This is true for most games/companies now. The era of gaming on Linux has finally arrived! I think it'll be a few years before adoption is 90%, but the day when we won't need a Windows partition anymore is within sight.)

That said, they're probably going to want to test the game and make sure everything runs smoothly. Some games run like native apps without needing any modification on Linux at all, some require small or significant end-user tweaks to run, and some just don't yet. If the game is flat-out not runnable, they may have to play around with it to get it working and may not enable EAC support until they have their ducks in a row... But they have significant incentive to look at this in order to support the Steam Deck. (Valve just opened Pandora's box for Linux gaming, and I'm ecstatic.)

Friday the 13th runs like a native app on Proton until you try to play online; EAC just kicks you off. There's a good chance that DBD will work flawlessly out of the box with EAC support enabled.

I will say that if it runs at all and only needs minor tweaks to be playable on Linux (or they're just worried they won't be able to test every new patch before it's released), they should enable the support for it ASAP and label it experimental. Linux users can handle it. We don't need to be hand-held nearly as much as the average Windows user. We'd rather have it than not have it.

    @Arazil said:

I have officially submitted my feedback supporting this request under support ticket 849388. Dead By Daylight's current hostility towards Proton and Linux is one of the major factors that keeps my separate Windows gaming rig alive.

I don't think DBD itself is hostile towards Proton or Linux - the option just wasn't available until just recently. They just (like most AAA games and MMOs, unfortunately) didn't see the point of maintaining a native Linux binary since the myth persists that no one uses Linux for gaming, and it'd be a lot of work for perceived minimal gain. But now, they won't have to worry about a native binary! They just have to update EAC (now free, from what I understand) and do a few clicks to gain a lot of new players and make a lot of existing ones very happy.

No reason not to do this, BHVR. What are you waiting for?

  • Keep in mind that this is coming from Corey Feldman, and he doesn't strike me as the most truthful of characters in every situation.

Do I believe that he and the other Corey were abused at the hands of predators in Hollywood?

    Yes, absolutely.

Do I believe that anyone other than Corey Feldman stabbed Corey Feldman with a pen while he was riding in a cab? Do I believe that anyone other than Corey Feldman left a calendar with the words "wolf pack" on the front on Corey Feldman's doorstep just before his PPV film was about to drop?

Not really. I believe that he was hyping up his movie and trying to draw attention to himself.

Don't forget that this all came in a public bid to get people to support him in a "Tommy vs. Jason" movie.

I think that what happened is he got drunk and talked to some other drunk person (a lawyer, perhaps - perhaps not even one directly involved in the case) at a party, who told him that he heard that people may possibly just maybe could be trying to at some point in the near future work things out to get the franchise back on track, and Feldman's eyes lit up with dollar signs.

I'm not saying I wouldn't watch a Tommy vs. Jason movie, but it's pretty clear that he wants his character's name at the front of the title in big red letters. I think Feldman's statement had more to do with Feldman than with Jason, although I do hope there's some truth behind it.

    @JHondo said:

If the legal issues were indeed settled they'd definitely save Jason for the Anniversary. Also, if they got the rights immediately, like the second they were available, it'd still be somewhere around 6-9 months before the chapter releases (at least I believe that's what they've stated is their development timeline for new chapters)

Although I'd love to see him make his way to the game and he's one of my dream chapters I'm not holding my breath.

He will make it into the game. It's a question of "when".

The only thing that might prevent this is the possibility that the F13 game makes a comeback as a result, and those devs don't want to share the character (and have a legal right to keep it from happening). I think the possibility of this happening is low, but I'd welcome this outcome, also. We need more DBDlike games.

And I know the chances of it happening are low, but I'd ######### love to see B-movie killers like Art the Clown, Chromeskull, and Babyface in the game. If DBD isn't going to license them, maybe somebody will make a similar game and do it. Just putting that out there in the ether.

Yeah, thanks. I didn't know the hatch closed itself after being opened with a key. There was definitely enough time between said escape and the hook death for that to be the case.

There's an in game message when you first turn it on saying what's broken, that they're working on it and apology bp. There's a message pinned on the forum saying they are aware of and looking into the issues. What the hell else do you want? Your suggested response doesn't tell anyone anything that the above didn't already do.

And yes, most games actually have glitches when a new dlc or patch comes out and need fixes. That's why you have patch number "x.xx" because they have to keep fixing it.

Answer me honestly: Do you code? Do you know how extremely precise yet fickle it is to code? Putting a single semicolon in one wrong space when coding can break something, for example. It's also not as easy as "Nemesis.buff.exe" or "solution.bug.fix" You have to find the bug, reproduce it, find a what's causing it and how to fix it and then, if there's time left, find if it breaks anything else. For buffs, they need a significant amount of feedback, testing and consideration before going through with it and after all of that, have to deal with the console licensing to actually get certified for updates.

So you want them to do all of that, in less than a week (not even considering people have weekends or can get sick or other emergencies etc.) While also maintaining a ######### live journal and reporting in to the forums about how far along they are, what they're working and how long they think it'll take? No. Because if they estimate incorrectly, they're giving people false hope and another reason to get bashed in by people like you who have 0 clue how this works and get messages like "You said you were working on X and it's not here!!!!"

If there is a company out there that does that, I've never seen it and tip every hat I have to hand for them. That sounds like absolute hell to go through just to please an entitled, impatient community.

    High IQ post.

HadNoFun is hated for so many reasons. You have the house of pain. You have like 30m long fences with windows in the middle that you can't mind game as a killer and they're 100 % safe no matter what you do. There's even a true infinite on it if certain windows are open

The game has a ludacris number of god pallets. It's all out in the open as you said. There's no way to mind game them. You have to just hold W 3-4 times around any given loop until they're forced to drop it. Then do it all over again at a pallet that's 2m away from that one. By the time you get through half the pallets on the map to make it unsafe. The gens are done.

So yea. Those maps are pretty much universally hated

Which house is the House of Pain?

I don't usually have trouble with the fences. I don't recall any specifics, but I usually seem to be able to hit them eventually when they try to loop me there. Maybe I do have to let them jump through the window once or twice, but they're usually already injured by that point, anyway.

I've heard of an infinite on HF, but I don't make a habit of chasing survivors out of windows or off of balconies on that map unless I'm sure I can get a down quickly. I usually sneak up behind them on gens and slap them (grab them if I can) and then come back to the same gen after patrolling the next gen or two over, especially if they jump out of a window or go to an area that I don't want to follow. I've also realized that, after jumping out of a back window, they will often assume that you're still chasing them and will immediately run around the building and back up the stairs in an attempt to loop you, so if you wait just out of sight near the stairs, you can sometimes get a down when they run back up.

But yeah, I definitely don't find it worthwhile to be chasing them around the backyard areas for twenty minutes.

What makes the map easy for stealth killers is that you can, again, sneak up behind them and get a free hit, and then you only need one more hit to take them down. A majority of the gens spawn around corners, right next to the basement stairs, or in dead end areas, making this a winning strategy. If you don't have a way to suppress your TR, they'll just hop out a window or start running to pallets before you get close, resulting in a long chase, which makes the map extremely hard for most killers, but Michael and Ghostface can usually get an easy hit in before the chase even starts, resulting in a lot of downs. A lot of the obstacles are actually helpful when running a Spooky Myers build, because you can see them right through the walls and figure out where they're going to go next, even though they can't see you.

Well, if you're chasing a survivor around loops for five gens in The Game, you're playing the map wrong (the game wrong, arguably). I usually try to harass people off of gens, do a couple pallets, get a down and a hook if I can, patrol the hooks and the gens, use Nurse's to get a couple easy downs, rinse and repeat. If you have stealth and/or good aura-reading skills, the map is easy. Surveillance helps. So does NOED, since the exit gates are right next to each other and always spawn in just about the same place every game - if anyone has survived long enough to open the exit gates, they're not making it out. Also, the basement is where a lot of downs happen; it's more favorable for killers down there. I don't focus on one survivor at a time with this map, usually; I try to scatter people across the map and harass them on gens until I get downs, I think.

The Game is a breeze for me. I'm really surprised that people consider that map survivor-sided. Then again, I may just be biased since I'm almost always playing Myers.

  • Huh. I googled it, and I guess some people do consider Gideon survivor-sided. I'd chalk that up to me being a stealth killer main, but I've even kicked some serious ass on that map as Clown.

The main complaint seems to be that there are a lot of pallets, but I guess I don't let that bother me as much since I do a lot of pallet breaking with all the M1 killers I play in the first place.

  • I am.

I mean, I get why some killers hate Haddonfield, because stealth killers are the only ones who do well on it. That means Mikey with M&A (and preferably Dead Rabbit; Spooky Myers also works almost as well) and Ghostface using Night Shroud addons, which are my two primary characters/builds. In most cases, it's a survivor-sided map for sure. Anyone with a terror radius is going to have a bad time. The key is to sneak up on survivors and smack them around corners while they're doing gens, hook them in the street where you can see people going for rescues, and make sure three gens that aren't in houses and are close together are the last ones standing.

Why in the world would any killer hate Game? It's open season on survivors no matter who you're playing. I probably win 80-90% of games on that map as a killer and lose almost as much as a survivor. The map is small, there aren't many places to hide, the exit gates are always close together, and the gens are usually in places with either high visibility or nowhere to run. Once the pallets are gone, it's game over. My one complaint is that the hooks are very consistently too far apart, but that's a small price to pay for all the advantages killers get on that map.

Also, the killer's terror radius is still audible even if you're on a different floor as the killer, so you can scare people off gens by just walking around.

Yeah, but Ghostface makes Haddonfield easy. Give it a try sometime.

  • @Gaffy said:

If it's just in the random rotation maybe or I'll just leave on the spot. If it's an offering I either go afk by an exit gate or get a hook and immediately facecamp. This map is garbage and needs to be removed until it's changed/ better to play on.

As a stealth killer main, I ######### love Haddonfield. I win almost every game on it. It's almost as good as Gideon or Lery's for me. Some killers might not fare well, but Mikey and Ghostface do just fine.

    @SomberNokk said:

Ill play Haddon out if its a random rotation, but depending on what killer I'm playing for example legion or Ghostface, if I get it as a offering I don't feel to inclined to play on the map and will sometimes DC while loading.

Maybe BHVR should improve the other perks so they're actually worth running then. Otherwise you're basically running crap perks for the funsies.

For all the people who ######### about this perk or that one (on both sides, killer and survivor), this is the solution. There should be so many meta, overpowered perks on both sides that both sides have an advantage and you'll never know what you're up against. That's the only way to address balance issues while still keeping things fun.

Games would be more exciting in general. I think Leon and Jill's new perks are a step in the right direction with this.

  • The real issue I have with grind is the amount of time it takes to unlock new characters. You need 9k shards, and it can take weeks to get that, depending on how much you're playing. I appreciate BHVR letting us unlock non-licensed killers without having to pay money for them, but damn.

The plus side of having the intense BP grind (and I'll admit that it can be intense) is that it forces people to play one killer for a while and really learn the ropes before unlocking perks. If you start relying on perks to get you through games before you really to learn how to play, you're not going to learn as much.

It does also suck that BBQ is locked behind a licensed, money-only character.

Because everyone is in the DBD community is always mad about everything.

I bet you anything that people would rage at new players getting 200 million bp to spend, or reducing the grind by removing tiers would have people demanding legacy #2 or auric cells/ shards.

200 million is sort of a lot, but I could see new players getting 1-5 million or something. To reduce the whining, give all the players who are currently playing twice that amount and also give twice that amount to all new players who start playing within a week of the change, which could also boost sales.

  • People say that P3ing doesn't affect the bloodweb, but I definitely notice a difference on Myers. I get Rabbits much less frequently, it seems like, which sucks since those are his best addon, IMO, especially when combined with M&A.

I also seem to almost never get Memorials anymore, to the point where I thought for a while that they had somehow been removed from the game, but that might just be ######### luck.

Moriing everyone would require the killer to have hooked 8 times though, so it would still be a killer victory, just not as decisively one as a 12-hook round. Devour Hope rounds could be more problematic under that win condition, but there could be special concessions made for it given that it is pretty much the only perk that can create such scenarios. And for Myers' Tombstone add-ons, I guess, but those honestly kind of need a rework anyway.

The main problem with that system really is the fact that survivors can enter the next hook stage without being hooked again, and of course both killers and survivors can "abuse" this. In a hook-based win system, the hook timers could simply be removed. The killer here has no incentive to camp anymore anyway since they want to get as many hooks as possible rather than camp for kills, and survivors obviously have incentive to unhook other survivors since they are otherwise down in manpower.

Hell, a more substantial change to the game within such a hook-based system could be that hooked survivors are actually transported to a sort of "sacrificial realm" and have to struggle their way out of it back into the trial, which could take 30-60 seconds, depending on how well they perform whatever tasks it would be that are required to struggle one's way out. On one hand that means other survivors do not have to spend time going to unhook them of course, but on the other the killer gets to take survivors out of the round for a guaranteed amount of time with every hook, whereas hooked survivors otherwise can potentially be unhooked instantly and be back to contributing to the round much earlier. Plus having to struggle their way out of such a realm would obviously be much more engaging for the "hooked" survivors too. And it would combat tunnelling to an extent as well, as the killer is obviously unable to chase that survivor for the time they are in the sacrificial realm (and that survivor could also re-enter the map at a random spot, making it harder for the killer to find them, as opposed to knowing exactly where they were hooked). Whether survivors would automatically be sacrificed if at any point all 4 are in the sacrificial realm is another question, it could make for an interesting game if they weren't, since then matches always would come down to whether the survivors can finish all gens before each of them has been hooked 3 times. Oh, and dying state bleedout timers would probably have to be reworked too.

Either way, whichever changes would have to be made to the game, substantial or not, I think a hook-based win condition could be much healthier for the game, creating a more chase-centric and dynamic gameplay, and making killers feel like they've won even if they did not kill every survivor. Of course, it would also lose a variety of aspects of its current gameplay, and not all of them are bad through-and-through (camping and combatting camping for instance can also yield interesting, engaging and fun gameplay), but I think overall it would be a better direction.

Judith's Tombstone is exactly what I'm thinking of, and I agree that it needs a huge buff. The speed penalty really needs be removed, or else the insane stalk requirement should (alternatively, the stalk requirement shouldn't stack, so it can be used with Fragrant without all gens being popped before it happens). It's a completely useless addon the way it is. Myers is a mid-to-low-tier killer, so his addons should at least be good.

So what about when a killer who downed a person who is crawling to the exit and is 2 feet away picking up the survivor and repeating said action until the time runs out? Is that not considered toxic? Define toxic as killers see it. I can tell you how frustrating it is when a killer does this. Either put me on the hook or let me leave. I ask because i have seen killers do this to me multiple times. I am never toxic to killers. So what could I have possibly did to deserve such trolling.

I don't do that sort of thing myself, but I always just assumed, when I first started playing the game, that we were supposed to play in character, so it didn't bother me much when it happened to me. Have you seen some of the movies these killers were based on? They would absolutely do something like that.

Honestly, I was shocked - SHOCKED - the first time a killer gave me the hatch. It just didn't compute. Why the hell would Ghostface do that? Ghostface wants to kill everyone. Ghostface is an #########.

Now I understand that most people who play it aren't too immersed in the horror movie aspects of it, but I still don't take it personally at this point, because I understand that some killers may still see themselves as trying to create the authentic horror movie experience.

Now, it does piss me off a little when you've got three masked Neas T-bagging you and clicking their flashlights at you while you're on the hook instead of rescuing you, but the last time that happened, they walked into a bunch of beartraps in front of me once the terror radius popped up and got hooked themselves. Instant karma, hahahaha.

  • @BloodMoneyMerc said:

Okay let me clear the air right now since I’ve been called toxic so many times this past week for doing my objective (and making the game less annoying and hard for myself). These are things I consider to be fine to do as a killer, though some survivors seem to find it toxic:

    1. Hitting a survivor right after hooking them (I do this to stop their scream).
    2. Returning to hook after an unhook has occurred (I have no info on any other survivors, or I want the person who made the unhook).
    3. Downing/rehooking a survivor that was just rescued/picked up (I only tend to do this if no one is trying to take aggro or if I need more pressure on gens that are going too fast. I tend to just slug the unhooked person so that I can at least get some pressure while still giving the person another chance. If it’s that much of an issue just use DS or Unbreakable).
    4. Proxy watching a hook that was strategically placed (It’s a defensive maneuver, generally meant to bring survivors into your area of protection so that you may also watch over a gen or two)
    5. Defending the last hooked survivor after gens are completed and the gates are 99’d or open. (What else can I do at this point of the game besides give up and gain no more points).
    6. Using NOED or Devour Hope (just cleanse totems, they are meant to be strong perks that have high risk value)
    7. Utilizing the basement to full effect (for certain killers the basement can generate a lot of pressure for them, which may be needed in order to win the game at times)
    8. Using a Mori (after their recent change I don’t even know why the devs want to change Moris because they no longer do anything besides send the survivor out in style)
    9. Tunneling someone with a key (in an attempt to potentially remove the key from the match after killing the key holder if they have the right addon for it or to prevent an unfair early end to the game bc of a broken mechanic still in the game).
    10. Playing Spirit (she was a killer added to the game that people had to pay for or earn with shards. While yes she has a strong power that isn’t hard to learn, there are still ways to play around a Spirit if you as the survivor are perceptive. Don’t be mad at me for playing a character I find fun that is also viable at higher ranks).

Fact of the matter is, only killers who are very good at the game have the option to consciously not do a lot of these things and still stand a chance of winning, especially against experienced survivors. As a survivor, I've gone against killers who have immediately gotten 2k and two downs, and they'll intentionally let us get up and give us enough gens that one of us can escape. If you're so good at the game that you need to handicap yourself just to make things a challenge, that's cool, but a lot of us aren't there yet.

Me, I've never made it higher than rank 12. I've only been seriously playing the game for a couple months (before that, I'd play the occasional game casually and usually lose if I was playing killer), and I'm just now getting to the point where I can 3-4k a little more than half my games on low ranks.

Outright camping hooks is bad strategy, but if I have to patrol hooks or try to guess when a survivor is likely to be unhooked and try to catch them in the act or re-down them immediately in order to save a game, that's what I'm going to do. My skills are gradually improving, but it seems like for every time I do that, I've missed two or three basic attacks or free downs that I would have gotten if my reflexes had just been a little better (I'm also playing on Stadia, which means there's a slight delay between my input and whatever I see on the screen - not enough to be really noticeable, but it probably makes a difference in online competitive games like DBD; I also am suffering from brain injury, which has affected my reflexes and cognitive skills).

Eventually, I may get to a point where I'm such a godlike player that I can give away free rescues and escapes to let the players have more fun while still standing a chance myself, but if I have to run NOED to turn 0k into 4k in the meantime (not a regular occurrence, but it has happened), that's my business.

    @indieeden7 said:

Surely this is all subjective? A killer could very well be hitting someone on hook to be toxic, just because you don't doesn't mean that other people don't.

I do this for two reasons.

One, the tiny dopamine rush I get from slapping a survivor just after they're hooked and stopping their scream is fun. There's no emotional attachment or malice behind it in that case.

Two, yes, as an expression of anger. That one experienced survivor who has consistently unhooked everyone I've gotten, cost me 4 gens of looping to catch and therefore the game, and then has the gall to t-bag me on top of it? Yeah, getting facecamped and slashed at. Can watch her teammates die in front of her trying to get the rescue. Getting tunneled if unhooked even if there's an easier kill.

Some of that's on me for playing badly that match, sure, but if someone else is not going to be a good sport, I'm not going to be a good sport. (Alternatively, even if somebody was a good sport, but they ######### spanked me all match, I still might not be a good sport, but at least they know why I'm doing it and probably laughing at me from the other side of the screen.)

That said, I don't understand why some people get so goddamn emotionally attached to this game. It's a lot of fun, but it's just pixels on a screen. It's not an actual life event. It's not worth getting mad about.

  • @zarr said:

I think the most commonly considered win condition is 0-1 kills = survivor victory, 2 kills = tie, 3-4 kills = killer victory. This is also what MMR should be based on, I don't understand why BHVR thinks it's not practical.

That said, I think it would be healthy for the game if it shifted officially (meaning in its scoring system and match result messages) to a hook-based win condition, with 0-5 hooks being a survivor victory, 6 hooks a tie, and 7-12 hooks a killer victory. But obviously there would have to be some changes to the game in order for this to work, e. g. survivors would have to be forced to unhook other survivors such that they can't "win" simply by all getting 1-hooked.

Another problem with that would be that moriing everyone would be an automatic loss.

  • Oh, and as survivor (forgot):

A win is survival or at least one pip.

A draw is death but safety/black pip.

A loss is death and de-pip.

EDIT: I feel like my standards for survivor are more lenient, but I don't play as much survivor.

  • A win is either 4k, 3k+hatch, Ruthless, or Merciless (DCs count as kills).

A draw is Brutal or any Entity Displeased match where more than one survivor escapes through the hatch.

A loss is Entity Displeased without any of the above conditions being met.

So it can be death-dependent or pip-dependent for me.

I am new here. That is why I asked. I do not use Oni, Billy, or Nurse. Nemesis is the first non-M1 killer that I've really played. I started with Trapper until I decided I liked the game enough to buy Michael, and now I'm learning Ghostface on the side. I'm planning to learn Nemesis and maybe Nurse.

For some reason, I thought that IF was M1-only. Apparently, it's not, but I still think it'd be a waste of a perk slot in most cases unless you're trying to slug.

Why do people want to nerf bbq? Weren't you complaining that you get camped a lot in another thread? Anyways to the actual question.

Killer perk nerf..... I think noed and believe it or not starstruck, starstruck is really good for the only thing that you need to do in order to activate it.

This is a good point. Aside from BBQ not being worth running except for the BP, it does encourages killers not to camp.

IF is a terrible perk for most builds. Sometimes I'll run a Myers build that's basically Knockout/Nurse's/Infectious Fright/Deerstalker + Fragrant/Memorial/Jigsaw offering, and then just slug everyone, but that's really the only thing it's good for, and then only because Gideon has two floors. (I do try not to let people bleed out once everyone is down, but I'll get 4 DCs when I do this more often than not.)

What do people use IF for that's not a meme or slugging build?

  • I'm against nerfing killer perks, considering that the latest DLC just gave us a mid-tier killer with one or two decent perks plus a bunch of extremely powerful meta survivor perks.

There are but in solo q, I see nobody countering it. It creates a snowball where killer hooks, uses bbq to go to next person, hooks them, comes back for person first hooked. Rinse and repeat. If it wasn’t a good perk then why do all killers use it?

It is a good perk, but mostly for BP.

There are lots of counters, as has been mentioned, and it keeps the game going. If you're going up against experienced survivors, being able to keep track of them somehow evens the odds. That said, there might be other perks I would run instead if it wasn't for the BP. It's a great perk for grinding, but there are much better perks gameplay-wise. Most survivors just jump in a locker or run a perk that blocks aura-reading the first couple times, and you usually have to run across half the map to harass someone on a gen when there are probably targets that are much closer.

I personally find Pop and Ruin to be pretty anti-fun. I get that gens can go quick and it can feel like ur only hope is gen slowdown perks but I find most of the people who use these are the types who can close out games insanely quick without also slowing the gens down. It is ridiculously annoying repairing the same gens over and over imo, but I'm speaking from the perspective of a relatively avg player who only plays with 1-2 people in my squad.

I never understood why people think Pop is a good perk. 25% of a gen is a small thing compared to the amount of time it takes to get someone hooked and then double back and kick a gen, in my opinion. A good survivor team could get a combined total of 25-75% of a gen(s) done in that time, depending. If it worked on every gen you kicked with a cooldown period in between, it'd be a strong perk, but I wouldn't waste a perk slot on it as-is unless it was synergizing with something else.

Ruin legitimately is amazing, but it can also be gone immediately. The idea of Hex perks is that they're completely game-breaking, but you can get rid of them by simply searching the map for the relevant totem. The only way nerfing Ruin would make sense is if they simultaneously made it a non-Hex perk.

Same thing goes for NOED. I run NOED a lot, but experienced survivors will always search the map and try to take it out before they open the gates. It's a strong perk, but every Hex is built-in with an equally strong counter.
