People are always mentioning these endless Blights that I basically never see.

Depends on your MMR. My MMR is at the point where most of my matches are against mediocre killers trying to boost their kill rates with Kaneki and Krasue along with the occasional good Blight or Nurse, but I'm a high (not top) MMR mediocre survivor who can only do well against a good killer when the entire team is coordinated (and I play solo, so that's basically never).

I'd imagine things get rough if you're good enough to get to a higher MMR than that.

And if the tunneling changes go through… well, it's clear that the last couple of killers were designed for nu-DBD where playing the same way every single game is mandatory, but the majority of the roster will suffer, and past a certain point in MMR, you'll see like three killers all the time (even more than you already do).

  • Chucky. I'm still going to play him some, but his nerf was way too harsh. He was a borderline S-tier killer after release, but his first nerf or two left him in a good spot. Low A-tier if you ask me, C-tier if you ask the Japanese. Now he's definitely in C-tier. Hope he receives buffs that put him back into a better place, but I'll probably still pick him up eventually just because he's Chucky.

Sadako. Just haven't taken the time to learn how to use her newest rework effectively. Sadako players I've played against recently can manage to be incredibly oppressive somehow, but on paper, she's just bad. I used to spend a lot of time arguing that her O.G. incarnation was actually good, though, so maybe I need to investigate this further.

Skull Merchant. But the only reason I played her in the first place was because she was so busted for a while. (Honestly, she was S-tier, and if DBD tier lists had any objectivity or credibility, she would've been after Blight for a while.) I don't mourn her, though, because she absolutely needed to be changed.

They are capable of it, but do they do it is the question? And what is there to address? You can't address that. People kill themselves from a bunch of nothin.

Have a bad first chase? Suicide.

See a killer they don't like? Suicide.

See a teammate of theirs go down quick? Run up to the killer, do the "come on" emote, and suicide.

    Truth.

It's especially annoying when you have a game that's completely winnable with everyone alive and two gens left, but someone gives up on second hook because they had to wait 20 seconds for me to self-heal (and the other two survivors are on the last two gens) and we all end up dying with the exit gates open, or someone suicides immediately after getting an early down and later on everyone remaining gets slugged with one generator left at like 80% progress.

I'd have a different attitude if people only did it when the game was completely unwinnable. I mean, it wouldn't be great, but nobody really blames anyone when there are five gens left and two people are dead. I've just had way too many games in solo recently where the game almost certainly would have been won if one teammate hadn't immediately killed themselves on the first hook.

I've also had a couple of games recently where one survivor will DC out of frustration and their bot still makes it out of the exit gates. A lot of the games people give up on are entirely winnable, and this is easily my favorite change in recent DBD history.

  • Maybe the exit gates should be blocked for the remainder of the game if all survivors who are are alive stand within 10m of an exit gate for more than 30 seconds.

If distortion is this huge of an issue when it only has 3 tokens and has to be recharged by being near the killer, that tells me that you run full aura builds to hand hold you. It’s your choice to run a full build with the intention of constantly seeing where every survivor is and running straight to them. It’s fair to have a strong perk to counter that. Also half of killer perks are not all aura perks, let’s chill with the hyperbole please.

But they pretty much recharge themselves. If you had to be within 32m of the killer for 120 seconds or something, that would be more fair. You'd have to be running 3-4 aura perks and using all of them pretty efficiently to burn 6-12 tokens (I see 2-4 Distortions per game now) and keep them down reliably.

And it's not helped by the fact that they completely gutted Ultimate Weapon, which perhaps needed a nerf, but didn't need to be completely obliterated from the game. What decent alternatives are there?

They should be much harder to recharge. Lucky Break gives an effect that would be OP if you could reliably use it an infinite number of times, but instead, you have to work to get it back.

Alternatively, you start with five tokens, but you can only recharge up to one token. That gives you a heavy advantage as a survivor in the early game without completely destroying the majority of the killer's perks on certain builds.

It doesn't turn off half of killer perks though. Not to be mean but If distortion is that oppressive for you then you probably should play perkless for a while to enhance your game sense. Survivors usually always make the same moves, heal in the same areas, like to run the same loops depending on the map. Distortion is a healthy perk that you can burn through the tokens usually and won't even bother you with proper game sense.

Except now you have a meta that revolves around 2-4 survivors running Distortion and hiding in unintuitive places all game any time they hear a terror radius and 3-4 survivors running anti-tunneling perks and bodyblocking.

I'm finding that four chase perks works better in the current meta than four aura perks or even four gen perks.

I also strongly disagree that you can burn through them reliably. If you're running 3-4 aura perks and an aura addon and using them all very consistently, yeah, maybe, but then you don't have room for anything else. Which might not be a big deal if you're playing Nurse, but some killers really suffer without chase and gen perks.

On the contrary, running a full aura build is the only way to counter Distortion, and some killers can't do that and still be viable. I don't necessarily want to run four aura perks; one might be fine if I didn't have to worry about 2-4 players ignoring it every game. It shouldn't make an entire class of perks unviable for lower-tier killers; that's just bad game design.

Ultimate weapon disable a quater of survivors' perks. PLUS the basekit slugged and hooked teammates.

Give survivor a perk that after being hooked, gives killer blindness for 30sec and killers will see how much a pain when basekit aura get removed.

    For Distortion.

A survivor using Distortion does not hinder killers ability to hunt other survivors. It requires all of them use Distortion to make killer cant use aura perks. But even then, killers use 4 aura perk is not survivors' fault.

The aura reading from killers is NOT that much of the problem, its that survivors who dont use Distortion DONT have a clue that they're being wall hacked. And constantly being the target if they're the only one not using Distortion.

Its survivors who should complain about Distortion, not killers.

That is an excellent point. Survivors who don't run Distortion tend to get tunneled out rather quickly in a lot of my games, not just because I intentionally want to target them, but because I can't find anyone else without checking every bush within a 30m radius of every active gen for a Blendette (who get to keep charging their tokens while I do).

With sabo beeing buffed you can expect to see more of this as a counter.

I haven't been seeing sabo squads nearly as much as I assumed I would, but I've been keeping a build handy just for them on every killer I play. If they really don't want to be hooked, I'll oblige them.

I thought all hallows Eve was a stellar no budget horror movie but I really don't care for terrifier. Maybe have art as a skin or something.

Did you see Terrifier 2? The first Terrifier was good, IMO, but the second is a masterpiece.

I agree that All Hallows Eve is underrated, and I think I might have enjoyed it (or parts of it) more than Terrifier. I think Terrifier was more consistent overall just because the second segment in All Hallows Eve was garbage and the first was good, if a little incoherent (the third and the wraparound just make the entire film).

I think Art deserves his own spot on the roster, but maybe could have All Hallows Eve Art as a skin.

    @UndeddJester said:

Big challenge for Art I'd say is where do you go with his power?

He doesn't really have one, Art is kinda lacking something that makes him stand out. Someone like Ghost Face doesn't really have a unique thing either, but he at least found a place in DBD via being the stealthiest killer in the game.

Its getting a little hard at this point to come up with something new that doesn't make Art a carbon copy of someone else... wouldn't be against him coming to DBD, but ideas are starting to get a little thin on the ground 🤔

What do you mean? He's a demon with supernatural powers. He's got a much wider palette to paint with than someone like Ghostface.

DBD will be here forever. I firmly believe that. They'll keep adding new characters, and the only way it'll ever shut down is if someone in upper management decides to can the project, which isn't going to happen because it'll always be making money.

So that's a problem that's just going to have to be addressed. There'll come a time when every new killer will probably parallel another in some fashion or another, but there'll be infinite variations of how they all work.

  • A lot of us have been saying this for a looooong time before T2 was released.

I've been a fan since watching the original All Hallows Eve in 2014 or so, and I was stoked when the first Terrifier came out. Terrifier 2… I was in the front row at Thursday night previews.

It probably wasn't possible even a couple of years ago since Art was still considered a B-movie killer on the same level as Babyface, Chromeskull, Leslie Vernon, etc., but he's a worldwide phenomenon now, and IIRC the filmmakers have expressed interest in a DBD collab.

My guess would be that it's already being worked on behind the scenes. Remember, these chapters get worked on up to two years in advance, so BHVR's already got a backlog, but it sounds like everyone's open to it, so I'm sure there's already been a conversation between the rightsholders and BHVR, at the very least.

It probably won't have NC-17 levels of gore the way the films do, but they'll give him a suitably gruesome mori within whatever boundaries they're setting for themselves. Seems to be relaxed more nowadays, anyway. Chucky's DLC has a LOT more profanity than they've ever previously allowed, and The Unknown's mori might be the most violent of any killer mori so far.

You're using two perk slots to get three effects

That's just one effect: healing. Half of the build for healing. You can get the same without a single perk: with a medkit with a decent teamwork.

    three effects

Two: healing yourself and healing others faster. You just repeated "healing yourself" twice.

and then Botany Knowledge makes Self-Care almost as fast as getting healed by another survivor

SC itself takes 45 seconds, half a gen, with Botany it will take about 30 seconds. Being healed by a teammate will take 16 seconds, almost twice as fast. The meta is double-heal after unhook, which takes 8 seconds and 0 perks.

Plot Twist is okay, but it only works once

Twice. And it has a ton of other situational uses. And you are completely silent, while you will be heard self-caring from a mile away. And it circumvents all the healing penalties the killer might apply on you, such as Mangled and slow healing speed.

(Inner Strength or something like that?) is objectively worse than any
of the above in every way just because of the sheer amount of time it
    takes.

8 seconds in a locker, literal speed of a double-heal. Lockers are everywhere and you are almost silent inside one, and finding one totem is easy enough. Most of the times you need just one, because you need the perk only when you can't find a teammate. And again, circumvents all the healing penalties.

Once again, there is a good reason why Self Care is considered a noob pick. It used to be viable long ago, but not now.

If you don't think that being able to heal yourself at almost full speed and being able to heal others quickly and effectively are two different effects, then there's not much point continuing this conversation, because I don't think you're actually giving this any thought. Botany is worth running on its own just for the extra healing speed, and being able to heal yourself on top of that is at least one other effect (I'd argue that being able to do so at a much better speed counts as a third).

    >Plot Twist

Twice? No, once, at least until the main match is over, at which point hiding in a corner of the map and using Self-Care/Botany would be every bit as effective since the first thing the killer is going to do is run over to the exit gates and/or facecamp whatever survivor they managed to hook to begin with. You won't be interrupted unless you pick a stupid place to heal. Botany is also more useful in that situation since healing others quickly after hook trades becomes a primary concern.

OTR or Bite the Bullet can solve your Self-Care sound problem if you're just especially bad at picking a spot to heal. If you're one of those people who turns around two corners and starts healing, Plot Twist might solve your problem, but only if the killer doesn't bother looking for you and doesn't have any aura perks. I would and I do.

    >Inner Strength

Finding a totem can take anywhere from ten to thirty seconds (seriously, time yourself next time), and then it's another 20 seconds to do the totem, and then another ten seconds to get to a locker, and then another eight seconds to heal…

With Self-Care/Botany, you take ten to twenty seconds tops to find a place to heal (not even that much if you just took a protection hit and the chase went to another area of the map), and then, boom, you heal and you're done.

You're really not "almost silent" inside of a locker. No. No. If you're in a locker near me, I will hear you just as well as if you were healing out in the open.

  • HOLY ######### WE'RE FINALLY GONNA GET DRACULA.

Would have rather had Bela Lugosi or Christopher Lee, but who doesn't love Castlevania? I'll take it. Maybe we could get those as legendary skins.

  • @Junylar said:

Unironically using Self-Care now, after all the thousands of nerfs, is just mathematically wrong. Literally any other self-healing perk is better. Even with Botany, you just waste 2 perk slots for something achievable with one or zero. So if it is considered meta in Japan, it probably tells that the game community there is small and the meta is not yet developed there. The same goes for the lack of tunneling: tunneling one survivor out of the game early is a guaranteed way to win for the killer, if they don't do it in Japan, it most likely means the benefits of tunneling are not yet so obvious there.

No, because you're not wasting two perk slots for one effect. You're using two perk slots to get three effects: Self-Care allows you to heal yourself, Botany Knowledge allows you the heal other people much faster than usual (almost a necessity that someone is running one such perk in solo after the medkit/healing nerfs), and then Botany Knowledge makes Self-Care almost as fast as getting healed by another survivor (faster in many cases since you don't have to go chase someone down).

What other perks allow you to do what that combo does?

Strength in Shadows is a stealth killer perk. Every other time I run it, the killer figures out exactly what I am up to and checks the basement next time I'm injured, and it's only good if you spend the majority of the match near the basement. It takes longer to heal than Botany and Self-Care if you have to run from the opposite end of the map, especially if you're trying to mindgame the killer into not figuring out exactly where you're constantly running off to to get healed.

Plot Twist is okay, but it only works once, can't be paired with Unbreakable, and if the killer has an aura perks, you just got hooked instead of getting healed.

Oh, and the name of the one that requires you to cleanse a dull totem first and hide in a locker escapes me (Inner Strength or something like that?) is objectively worse than any of the above in every way just because of the sheer amount of time it takes.

And none of those let you heal another survivor quickly, which is just as important as being able to self-heal in the current meta.

Kill rates don't tell a killer's strength unless you genuinely think Freddy's stronger than Blight. And yeah Otz only rated Sadako highly after her first rework, but at that point he was considering her to be better than killers with strong M2s such as Huntress and Pyramid Head, so your point that Western people would never rate killers with a lack of M2 highly was already disproven by bringing up Otz himself.

Eh. Kill rates don't tell the whole story, but they are a part of the picture. Blight has low kill rates at low MMR because he's very hard to learn, but in high MMR, he's nuts.

Sadako had high kill rates at both high and low MMR very consistently. She was a strong killer across the board. But your argument is a perfect example of what I'm talking about: Sadako just has to be a weak killer in your mind; you're not capable of classifying her anything else, no matter what the numbers say.

If there were statistics that showed her as the most consistent killer in the entire game, some people would still be repeating the mantra, "Sadako is weak. She's an M1 killer. She has no antiloop. Sadako is weak. She's an M1 killer. She has no antiloop. Sadako is weak. She's an M1 killer. She has no antiloop."

On and on and on until the sun burns out.

    That's my entire point here.

That version of Sadako doesn't even apply to my argument because she really wasn't using her M1 to get most of her kills, if we're going to be technical. I don't know what the equivalent of R1 is for people who play with keyboard and mouse, but that's the button I got 75% of my kills with, not R2 (M1).

I feel like you're just grasping at straws since Sadako was about as much of an M1 killer at that point as Spirit or Nurse (who technically get their downs with M1, but we don't call them M1 killers because they don't play like M1 killers).

Could easily be one of my most anticipated chapters I couldn't wait to buy, but won't be.

Haven't played D&D in a long while (sadly). When I still did, I loved the Ravenloft setting because I was never into generic fantasy. For those not familiar with D&D, it's D&D's Gothic horror setting. If the new chapter was connected to Ravenloft, that would be gorgeous. If it was Vecna, they'd probably have had a chance, Vecna once was a Darklord of the domain of Cavitius (but I think he escaped the mists or so). The new D&D Vecna material dropping soon (which is probably why Vecna is rumored) also seems to partially play in Ravenloft, at least that's what I get from a quick research.

So if the map was Cavitius and the survivor maybe a Vistani, I'd be the best they could push out for me. However, the lore will most likely refer to the more popular Forgotten Realms and the survivor is also more likely to be a well-known character from that setting even though Ravenloft would be such a better match for DbD's theme - the better known stuff will win, sadly.

This. I'm hoping for a Ravenloft chapter.

  • Just run Starstruck.

I also don't know what you're on about with the "not fun for anyone" bit, OP. Tunneling the sabo person is one of my favorite things in the world.

Also, if 1-2 people just want to follow me around all game with toolboxes in the hopes that they can get a sabo, I think I'm all right with that as long as it means they're not on a gen.

Something might have happened. You don't get a popup telling you unless you sent a ticket through the BHVR web site, but they still read ingame reports.

  • If you didn't want to spend the rest of the game on the floor, you shouldn't have been shining that flashlight in my face all game and then attempted to run off to a deadzone in some corner of the map to give your equally obnoxious friend a chance at hatch.

In all seriousness, I don't slug for the 4K unless the survivors were especially annoying and/or the fourth survivor was in my direct line of sight when the third one went down.

It would unbalance the game if you allowed survivors to hard counter slugging with anything basekit, but there shouldn't be a DC penalty if there are two survivors left in the game and one of them has been slugged for 60+ seconds. We have bots now.

Tier lists for killers will always be hard because is it at the killer at their best, their base, or some combination therein. With Otz its worth noting that Plague is one of his better killers, so not surprising he has a killer he happens to be really good with higher.

Yeah. what I gathered from looking into Japanese DBD players is that their strategy is much worse, but their technique is much better. Western players would do well to study their emphasis on self-reliance and microcounterplay against different killer powers (and Japanese players might do well to play more aggressively).

Well, everything is different so its hard to evaluate. Not only does the comp scenes have different rules, the way pub matches are played look unique. When I've watched Asian twitch streamers I've been surprised how frequently the killer will get a 1k because the survivors just open the gate and leave instead of trying a group save. Whether getting a 4e is actually a worthwhile goal or not is totally a community dependent decision, and how the community plays it out really changes strategy aspects.

I mean, whether or not I personally attempt a group save depends upon how likely it is to get me killed. I've seen experienced players with thousands of hours try to go after a survivor hooked by a facecamping Michael even though it'd just be a 1K otherwise. If the Japanese have enough brain cells to make that call, good for them.

this is not a fair comparison. your tier list considers the best addon combinations for each killer.

when you look at the other tier list on the same website (link), it puts michael into C tier like otz. that's with mediocre addons.

It's a perfectly fair comparison considering that Otz has one tier list and he uses one set of criteria for M2 killers (one OP build can be the reason for the entire A-tier placement) and another set of criteria for M1 killers (ultra-strong builds aren't considered because of a lack of an M2). We wouldn't be having this conversation if he'd put Plague in B-tier and Myers in C-tier and explained that each had builds that could catapult their power level into the stratosphere.

It also doesn't, I'll add, put Myers into C-tier "like Otz", since Otz's tier list only goes down to C anymore, and Myers is consistently the last or next to last. That tier list has a D tier with a ton of killers below Myers (although some of these placements are a little odd, admittedly).

(And again, I'm not just talking about Otz here. Myers gets consistently underrated despite a decent kill rate and incredible builds.)

I absolutely agree with Hag's placement in D-tier, however. I still don't understand why she gets placed so highly by so many killers when she's slower than Trapper and her power can be countered without a flashlight now.

    @squbax said:

You can loop a myers for entire days if he doesnt have tombstone. A good plague will down a decent survivor even addonless, thats why I guess people rate her that way. But on the other hand I might get hate for this but I wouldnt trust the japanese tierlist. Maily because of the goofest that was the japanese tournament. I also have tuned to some gameplay and its very entertaining but not optimized, it reminds me of old dbd where no one knew what they were doing.

However I here agree with something in this tierlist and it is chucky, he is not as bad as the tierlist says but he is the most overrated killer in the game. Any good player will dodge the slice and dice, his stealth is incredibly easy to deny, and his only strong aspect was scamper which was strong because it was BS. Next patch he still has a very easy to dodge attack, a subpart stealth and still has no flicks.

Well, Bamboozle also solves Myers' looping problem, and you only really get one chase "for entire days", because the first chase takes an eternity, and after that, there's no pallets left and you have T3 99'd consistently and everyone goes down at once. It's not always good strategy to play that way since four gens can pop while you're getting your first down, but the entire map becomes a deadzone, and then you're basically free to hook everyone all at once.

Also, with M&R + DR, you get your first hit for free or almost for free, and combined with Bamboozle, you can cut your chase time by a solid 70%.

Also, as I said above, infinite T3 with Coup de Grace and Bamboozle is really nasty. Not only do most loops become 100% unsafe, but oftentimes survivors don't even get to a loop before they go down.

There are a lot of ways to make Myers better at looping other than Tombstone is all I'm getting at here.

Also agree about Chucky. Even his scamper wasn't that bad unless you were running his iri addon, in which case, yeah, it was BS.

    @Rajbow2023 said:

I mean Otz literally put Sadako in A tier in his latest tier list that was made before her map wide condemn build got nerfed by her latest rework so you've just shot your argument in the foot by bringing him up lol.

She was A-tier at that point (at the very least), at least when it came to pubs, but I also didn't say anything about Otz in regards to Sadako, and he also rated her as a D-tier killer IIRC when she came out despite her high kill rate, so this helps prove my point.

    @イエローミント said:

As a Japanese person, let me provide some additional context.

The tier list in the original post reflects the perspective of players from a company that operates a game strategy website in Japan. They believe that by using the strongest combination of addons from each killer, it's easier to aim for a 4K. This is why Michael is ranked highly, as his addons like Tombstone make it easier to aim for an instant kill, quickly eliminating one survivor from the game and gaining an advantageous position.

On the same website, there is also a tier list created collaboratively by users who use the site.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/CMM22KNVCU7T/img-1144.jpeg

This list might be closer to the tier list of killers on the Asia server. However, when looking at tier lists from various Japanese streamers, the consensus is generally Nurse > blight > Spirit, but opinions differ below that.

In the Asia server, players focus on how survivors can cooperate to complete generators and escape, as well as whether the killer can protect generators and secure a 4K within that time frame. There are fewer complaints about tunneling and camping compared to the EU and NA servers. Additionally, while there are some instances of sabotage and flashlight saves in SWF, survival takes priority, so perks like Self-Care and Botany Knowledge are meta.

If you're interested in the Asian environment, try coming in with a VPN. There are fewer people giving up or disconnecting, so solo queue might be more comfortable to play in compared to the EU and NA servers.

I will do that sometime. I'm definitely interested in trying it out.

I actually agree with a lot of the placements on the community tier list there even more than the ones made by the gaming company. I'm not sure I'd put Chucky or Nemi in D-tier, but I'll never understand why Ghostface gets consistently ranked higher than Myers in Western tier lists despite his power being so easily countered, his stealth being inferior (when certain Myers builds are taken into account), and a lack of any of the patently OP nonsense Myers can get away with with certain builds.

  • @TheArbiter said:

Trapper being in B tier really is wild

    I do agree with that.

There was one build I had that had a 75%+ kill rate which consisted of Forced Penance/Starstruck/STBFL/NOED with Trapper Bag and Makeshift Wrap, but the anti-facecamping feature killed it. And that was admittedly cheap.

    @Mr_K said:

    Otz =/= all of us

It's not just Otz. I use him as an example because everyone's familiar with his work, but a lot of these opinions are held by the DBD community at large.

I don't even disagree with his individual takes in and of themselves - "plague is just okay, but can be really good with the right build" or "Myers is weak, but he can be OP with the right build" - so much as the fact that Plague gets better treatment than Myers on his list because the DBD collective consciousness dictates that Myers has to be lower than Plague, even if it means applying different criteria when ranking either killer.

I'm not necessarily arguing that Myers should be higher than Plague on a tier list taking each killer's general strength and consistency into accound, but it's clear that we're just applying different standards to different killers based less on their actual potential strength and more on what broadly-defined "category" they fit into.

Probably because they play very different from us. Westerners currently try to end the match as fast as possible while Japanese players still try to slow their opponent so much that they win. Self-Care is also a meta perk for them and apparently tunneling is not as common as it is in the west either.

Yeah. what I gathered from looking into Japanese DBD players is that their strategy is much worse, but their technique is much better. Western players would do well to study their emphasis on self-reliance and microcounterplay against different killer powers (and Japanese players might do well to play more aggressively).

Also, Self-Care is still a good perk when combined with Botany Knowledge. I've had roughly a 50% escape rate for a couple of weeks now as a solo queue survivor, which, for me, is very high, and those two perks have been a staple. I don't have to bother someone completing an objective to get healed, and it's almost as fast (even faster if I don't have to run around looking for everyone), I get extra time in chases when I would otherwise go down for being injured, and Botany doubles as one of the better general support perks in the game.

EDIT: Also, can run a good toolbox instead of a medkit without having to gamble on whether or not my teammates are going to bother healing me.

I dunno how I feel about Myers being constantly sold short because of his base kit. I feel like people try too hard to be "fair" by downplaying his strengths but let's be serious, anybody taking killer seriously isn't going to limit themselves like otz does with his streaks. Otz is too obsessed with running average add-ons that I think it gives him a slight bias.

You're not "meant" to play killers with nothing just like you're not meant to judge Survivor power by their adept perks.

I only say this because one of Myers strength is his build flexibility. It's neither fair, nor super easy to judge a killer who is very accommodating. Then on the flipside you have Knight, who only ever runs 2 add-ons but it makes him more easy to tier.

Anytime I run into Trapper it's always his best add-ons and I usually get 4kd.I'm lucky to get the Coffee Wrap combo.

Yeah, I've definitely run into some Trappers who were able to just inexplicably steamroll everyone even though we were ostensibly playing pretty well.

I think it's worth noting that Japanese players have quite literally developed a different Meta with different strategies to counter different killers and a different way of playing the game that can genuinely affect the viability of killers in the region. Looking at the recent tournament between Western and Japanese players, I wouldn't really say either region is wrong in how they categorize things, just that they've both developed quite well to their respective styles of play.

I think the reason Otz and other players view Myers without his add-ons and Plague with her add-ons is how much the add-ons add to each killer.

Plague's best add-ons simply make her more consistent. The apple creates a new fountain, which makes her less map dependant in terms of whether you'll get a corrupt fountain in a useful area. A great addon, but not one that drastically changes her kit functions. If you're lucky, you'll get two fountains in a good area, but although that's powerful, it isn't a new ability.

Myer's Add-ons change his kit drastically. He can get new abilities, like Aura reading with mirrors or the option to kill survivors with Tombstone. He can get a 4m terror radius with Dead Rabbit and Monitor or he can increase stalk rate and take Infinite T3. He's hard to rank because his add-ons change his kit so much, whereas Plague's just make her stronger.

I already addressed some of that in this post above, but worth noting that this tier list is specifically geared towards general play, not tournament rules (which are apparently very killer-sided); I know this for a fact since the point came up in the Reddit thread I stole the tier list from.

Also, Otz specifically lists one build that is the entire reason for Plague's A-tier placement, and it's one that changes Plague's basekit as drastically as Tombstone Piece does for Michael.

I think it was something like Iri Seal, Tinkerer, Deadlock, and some other stuff, turning her into a killer who has her power active basically the entire game and knows where and when to target survivors at all times, making for a very different playstyle. He also mentions Prayer Tablet Fragment as being good, which is another addon that completely changes Plague's playstyle.

Plague is not as versatile as Myers, but what versatility she does have is specifically used to justify her high-level placement.

I think Freddy being considered D tier is crazy he used to be A tier all the way (prior to all the new 17 built-in perk killers coming out) and even now is fairly strong if you are a skilled killer.

I have mixed feelings about him. A lot of his basekit is pretty horrible, but his real strength comes from his mobility. I don't think he's really very strong though, but I almost exclusively play Pallet Freddy (weak) or, on occasion, Black Box Freddy (only strong if you get lucky).

He did used to be a lot better than he is now, though.

Your profile picture reminds me: Skull Merchant is another excellent example. The Chess Merchant build was up there with some of the meanest builds you could pull off with Nurse or Blight, to the point where the best survivor group in the world was held hostage for almost an hour by a much less experienced player, but people considered her B/C/D-tier instead of the clear S-tier monster she was at the time.

It just seems like people didn't want to acknowledge her strength because (A) no M2 attack and (B) it was a supremely annoying build to play against.

Ruin and Call of Brine viable? LOL

You might be the only person who thinks that. No one runs those perks EVER anymore.

Show me a build made by someone who''s good at the game that uses either.

You misread. I said that "People complaining about the nerfs need to remember the treatment Ruin and Call of Brine got," meaning that at least Pain Res and Pop didn't get the treatment that Brine and Ruin got.

When I said that "these perks" are still viable, I meant Pain Res and Pop. I thought that was self-evident.

  • Territorial Imperative is going to be meta after the next update.

  • As far as the 8.0.0 changes go, they're clean, healthy nerfs. They're a tiny bit weaker, but they'll still be very strong, and killers will be able to get plenty out of them without them being as oppressive as they can be in certain builds on certain killers. I'm personally still going to keep running all of those perks as much as I do now.

People complaining about the nerfs need to remember the treatment Ruin and Call of Brine got. At least these perks are still viable.

I'm not a big fan of getting only 20% instead of 30%, since I'd like to be as oppressive as possible and curb-stomp every group of survivors that comes through, but it's understandable from a gameplay balance perspective. And it if means the end of BU+FTP, I'm not complaining.

Ultimate Weapon, on the other hand, was overnerfed into oblivion, and nobody at all is ever going to run that again, which is disappointing since the original nerf they gave it was enough.

Honestly, I didn't think it affected gameplay all that much when DS was originally nerfed to three seconds, and I also didn't really notice any changes in game flow when they re-buffed it to five. The only thing DS needed was to deactivate during the endgame.

When I play survivor, I've never used any anti-tunneling perk other than OTR on a regular basis.

in fact, there is a chance that it will become the best anti-tunnel perk of all existing ones, of course in conjunction with "not for record" (is that what it's called in English?) which gives the Endurance for 80 seconds. It will be more accurate if they increase the speed bonus by 2-3%, which they will most likely do.

Increase survivor movement speed... by 5-8% on a single perk? One that still stacks with other perks with a similar effect?

So if you brought, say, Hope, Shadow Step, and Dark Theory, you'd get up to, potentially, 117% movement speed, which would just make you flat-out faster than the killer with no scratchmarks?

I think the two most relevant things to point out here would be:

1: MFT is not gonna be completely useless. It'll be a strong perk you have to put thought and effort into using, and there's nothing wrong with that. It might need a slight compensatory buff, but that's what the PTB is for, testing and finding that out.

2: The perks you cite, Pop and Pain Res, have been changed, multiple times. They're just one of the scant few perks on either side that people still think are decent after their various changes instead of immediately decrying them as utterly useless and killed beyond measure.

Also, four slowdowns isn't that good for the killer, but that's a separate rant I may make into a full post someday.

Do it. Topic interests me, and it's something that I've been thinking about lately.

Pre-6.1.0, quad slowdown wasn't necessary (only Ruin/Undying were for M1s), but it was very good depending on the killer and the perks used (Ruin/Undying/Pentimento/Thana on Legion, for example, turned them into an S-tier killer IMHO).

Post-6.1.0 but before all gen regression perks were gutted, it was the preferred playstyle in a lot of cases. Brine/PR/Pop/Eruption on Sadako was stronger than the slugging condemned playstyle that was just becoming popular.

Things are different now just because of the increased focus on chase over guarding gens. In most of my survivor and killer matches alike, gens just fly no matter what anyone's trying to do or not do about it, and the goal for the killer is to tunnel someone out or get everyone on the ground ASAP.

There aren't four good gen perks anymore (that synergize with each other), and the current survivor meta necessitates running chase perks unless your killer already has antiloop or mobility. Just chasing survivors one at a time with Myers and hoping that regression perks do the good work in the background doesn't work anymore.

Interested in hearing your thoughts on this.

  • Nice. Probably my favorite movie in the franchise, and Chucky is my favorite horror series.

  • I've found Scratched Mirror Myers to be very difficult in the MfT meta, even with the proper perks and addons. Definitely look forward to reading the rest of this; some nice ideas here.

That's a good take on Bitter Murmur. Was one of my favorite perks when I first started playing the game, but sort of fell to the wayside I started earning perks that are actually good. Found myself thinking the other day about what the best way would be to identify and take down the one or survivors who are focusing the most on slamming gens since even quad slowdown doesn't really help anymore. BM might be worth a try.

  • I'm breaking from DBD until this gets figured out and/or MfT gets a nerf (or until DBD widthdrawals set in after a few days and I try and get mad about this all over again).

It's not fair to ask me to deal with multiple matches a day with no bloodust and at least two survivors running that godforsaken perk. Makes the game completely unplayable when this happens.

  • @Mandy said:

If you have your player logs when this happens that would be super helpful thank you. Also any video?

I'm seeing this randomly reported so I suspect it might be a difficult one to find the cause - so any information you have, could be super helpful.

I'll start recording all of my matches, I guess. Just happened again. Fifteen minute ban since it happened twice yesterday.

I'll DM the log to you if possible, just because it doesn't look readable in a text editor, but since you're asking, I'm assuming the encryption is reversible, and I don't know what information it might contain.

    @Rafii2198 said:

Happened to me too on the Pale Rose map as Wraith yesterday. The chase only started briefly after I hit the survivor but ended within a second or two. For the rest of the day it didn't happen, as well I didn't get the swamp map too, so maybe these maps are bugged.

Yeah, that's what happens to me, too. Chase won't start until someone gets hit, and then it'll end and won't start up again.

I've had it happen on several different maps, so I doubt it's map-dependent, but who knows?

  • I was one of the biggest detractors of Sadako's changes before I got them in my own hands, but I've changed my mind. They sounded horrible on paper, but my kill rate with Sadako is nuts.

Her playstyle has definitely changed completely. Contrary to what a lot of people here said after watching some YouTube video (most people here seem to get their opinions on things from YouTube), her condermned playstyle was not at all strong before her rework, and her high kill rate was because of people taking advantage of her mobility and playing her as an M1 killer around loops. Hit and run was also a terrible idea with her, despite the fact that you heard everyone saying she was a "hit-and-run killer". I would stack slowdown perks (Pop/CoB/Eruption/PR, back before CoB was nerfed) and use her power to proxy camp. It worked well, but the newly increased TV cooldown completely destroyed that playstyle.

Now, my main strategy is to just spam condemned all over the map as quickly as I can, which, when combined with four slowdown perks, Iri Videotape, and Ring Drawing, means survivors are either dying right off the bat, or they're spending too much time focusing on tapes to get gens done as quickly as I can regress them.

And, on the contrary, I don't know which aura perk you're referring to, but my secondary build with her is to run her Remote Control and Distorted Video with a mixed aura reading/anti-chase build (Lethal Pursuer/BBQ/STBFL/Bamboozle), and I get a lot of value out of them.

The thing about the new condemned mechanic is that, yeah, it can be very forgiving if you're not running Iri Videotape, but it also causes a fair amount of slowdown overall, and it only takes one person to fail to keep it under control to doom the whole team. If somebody dies at four gens left because that one person screwed up, that's it. gg. Nothing else the rest of them can really do unless you screw up and they all get incredibly lucky.

And it seems like there's always one.

  • If you really care about winning, you can indeed win most of the time. Even if you max out your MMR, a good portion of your matches are going to be against people who either aren't as good or aren't trying to sweat as hard.

As a killer, you can get a competitive advantage by picking a killer - any killer - and just getting good with them. I win most of my matches with Michael or Sadako, but I don't have nearly the same kill rate with higher-tier killers like Spirit or Plague (who I also enjoy playing). A lot of it's just learning your chosen killer's strengths and weaknesses and using those to your advantage. Last game, I had no hooks before two gens popped and instakilled a god looper because he didn't manage his condemned properly. 3K.

As a survivor, you really need to have a team to get anywhere, but if all four of you are sweating as hard as you can with the best items and loadouts, your advantage is even more pronounced than as killer.

It's fine if you just don't want to win, but you can do it if you're willing to put in the effort.

  • I've been having this issue on and off for a month. Not really fair to expect me to play when this happens (no chase, no bloodlust the entire game), and the DC penalties really start to stack when it happens more than once in a day.

  • @FrenchBagels said:

Ultimate Weapon has now made it a lesser option because the screams it produces is far more useful and consistent, even working with survivors in a locker. Darkness Revealed on the other hand:

    • Aura-based, countered by lockers/gen auras/Distortion
    • Requires you to be in a measly 8 meters of a locker, making it map dependent
    • Has a cool down as well
    • Doesn’t always have valuable information for faraway targets since most Killers can’t cross-map over to them unless it’s Blight
    • Has several alternative aura perks that do the job better

Ultimate Weapon suffers from success, being the best scream perk in the game and somehow makes Doctor’s Static Blast seem like aroma therapy in comparison. The only counter to it being Calm Spirit, which now has a totem speed debuff that only works if you have Counter-force, requiring you to use two perk slots to ignore one perk. Also, reminder that Nowhere to Hide is 24 meters, lasts a few seconds, and is not tied to terror radius.

    This isn’t a problem?

I disagree. I run them together sometimes, and you do get a lot of value out of Darkness Revealed. And even if you're not playing a killer with mobility, you can see someone across the map with Darkness and then zero in on their current position with Ultimate once you're finally all the way across the map, which works well.

Maybe it's just a Japanese culture thing but they don't take toxicity lightly in game and I for one glad for it. I wish more pvp games took measures to punish toxic behavior and try to discourage it.

Setting off fireworks on opponent's bodies sounds like a cool game mechanic. Maybe the devs could implement that in DBD somehow for the summer events.

  • @Pulsar said:

They'll remove the Endurance and do nothing else because they are reasonable.

That doesn't really address the problematic aspects of the perk. I see MfT almost every game, and I can probably count the number of times I've seen endurance from it on one hand. That's not why people are running it.

"M1 killers are terrible, so they won't have to worry about a good perk" is a terrible argument. I don't know what my MMR is, but I've run into four-man SWFs all running MfT who have gotten gens done in six minutes with no slowdown perks on my part, and they're very hard to deal with. (Not impossible, but hard. I can run the most broken builds in the game, and getting a 2K is a struggle against those guys.)

I think that BHVR is currently trying to encourage some kind of "speed meta" by giving survivors a broken perk and forcing killers to deal with it somehow, but nobody's running the intended killer counter perks, because they suck. They lose stacks when you swing, require you to give up bloodlust entirely for the entire game, only activate long enough to kick a few pallets after a gen pops and you're already losing, etc.

If anything, they'll drop it to 1-2% and keep the Endurance. I also wouldn't say no to keeping it as it is, but making it a Boon totem with map-wide effects. Then it could be stacked with Dark Theory, which would be interesting and powerful, but would also make it counterable.

At any rate, I don't hate MfT half as much as I hate For the People/Buckle Up. I can deal with MfT if I absolutely have to, but that combo is broken.

Undying was one of the most broken perks ever released for the killer side, that's why it got nerfed

The gen kick meta was so stupid that a killer had to actively try not to win a game to lose it, and btw I called out how stupid eruption was from the moment the buff was announced in the ptb patch notes of 6.1, like, everybody could foresee how unhealthy and broken it was

The only perk that was unnecessarily nerfed was ruin. It deactivating due to one person's death was an interesting (and healthy?) addition, but the regression down to 100 was over the top

So you're one of the two others, then.

Because, no, when that perk came out, everyone here dismissed it as a joke and said it was terrible and nobody should ever run it, same as they did with CoB/Overcharge.

Also, you're dead on about Self-Care. That's another perk that's actually good (at least when it gets combined with Botany and Desperate) that gets dismissed out of hand around here.

sadly banning hardware ID's or MAC do not help since they can spoof them too.

You can spoof a MAC address if you're connecting to a wifi hotspot or something, but Dead by Daylight is an actual binary that runs on the actual computer in question. It would be able to see the device's original MAC address and/or be able to detect attempts to spoof it, wouldn't it?

My guess is this is already in progress

So then he'll re-register another account immediately and start uploading again, and he'll have an active channel again for a while because the legal stuff takes time, right? Anything would be more effective than that. Rucka Rucka Ali taught an entire generation that the most useless thing you can try to silence someone is deleting their videos on YouTube.

If BHVR is planning to file an actual lawsuit, there's some chance they'll be able to squeeze an IP address out of YouTube. I'm not sure they'd actually win a lawsuit or even be able to file one for a great number of reasons, but if they did, that maybe has a chance to scare and/or annoy him enough to make him stop, but I don't think a DMCA notice will be doing much.

  • Oh, and BHVR could also look into the idea of evercookies and implement something based on the same concept. The game could install a few minor, harmless text files, 1KB PNG images, etc. in random places on the user's device when they're suspected of being a ban evader and check for those on startup.

It's a bit impractical to dedicate a staffer to keeping tabs on a single malicious dbd content creator.

He's a pretty active twitter user who openly boasts about the fact he's basically able to sidestep any consequences for what he's doing. Fresh accounts don't really cost much of anything and are so readily available you can just do a regular internet search for them.

Maybe if they hit him with MAC address level bans that would help because that's a ban at the hardware level which is much more difficult to circumvent. Not sure if BHVR has the ability to do that though.

They run the client that the user in question uses to connect to the internet, so they absolutely could do a MAC ban. What might be even more effective is a hardware ID ban.

When the game starts, it could generate hashes based on the user's unique hardware before the server checks it against a database. If two or more items match a known ban evader (the only type of person who would be put in such a database, not regular rule-breakers), action is taken. It could check MAC addresses, UUIDs, and other things that would be difficult to change without reinstalling the operating system or getting new hardware. They couldn't simply run it in a VM, because EAC checks for that, and even if new accounts aren't expensive, new computers are.

And then if they really wanted to throw him off, they could take a cue from some of the more annoying DRM schemes out there and, instead of banning him outright, tell him six times that the game failed to initialize, get him into a fake match and make him wait an hour loading before giving him a DC error, purposely bug his character ingame so that it's weaker or less effective, make his character go AFK for large portions of the match, etc.

Alternatively, someone with a matching hardware ID (especially one that was just banned from a previous match) could simply have their matches subject to additional scrutiny by BHVR's server in real-time. They can't do that for everyone because it would take too many resources, but how many people like this do they have? They could watch a few matches a day. Even if they have 2,000 games a day where something like this happens, they could watch 200 of them with basic algorithms that check for things that shouldn't be possible ingame, and that puts a dent in the problem.

Chances are if it is who I think you're talking about, he is already IP banned and he's probably spoofing his IP which means on top of seemingly being in possession of a large number of backup accounts there may not be a good way to permablock him.

Couldn't BHVR just have someone check his channel daily and band whatever username they see him using?

It might not stop him from hacking, but it'll stop him from releasing a stream of new content in a timely manner.

That could also get expensive for him quickly if he has to buy new accounts and socks every time he gets an account banned.

Some of us like stealth killers, though. And that would hurt a lot. The early game is the most important part of the match for M1 killers. ######### it up and it can be difficult to come back from.

When people rip on him, I don't think it's because he's a bad actor so much as the fact that he was in a lot of bad movies. He had a huge gambling debt or something, so for a while, he'd be in any movie anybody would pay him to be in. (8mm was probably one of those, but I personally liked it.)

Even when DbD didn't have all these filters, it still wasn't nearly as bad. Also I'm not talking about ingame BM like Tbagging, hitting on hook, bleeding out some one, etc. thats just ingame BM. What I'm talking about? Death threats, insults not from how you play but directly at you, slurs being thrown around like its candy, bullying cranked up to 10 and so much more.

But what ever, if you think DbD is this absolute cess pool of a community then go right ahead. You have your own experiences and I have mine. Just know I quit CSGO for a reason

Well, yeah, and I'm not saying that I don't do those things sometimes. The ingame BM, not the other stuff. (My DBD orientation is Lawful Evil. I'm really not that nice, and I love a good flame war, but I keep my taunts/insults within the rules, leave certain words out of it, never cheat.)

I'm not saying the entire community is like that. If you get into the DBD streaming community, I'd say that sort of environment is a lot less toxic than other game streaming communities, from what I've seen. Racism, homophobia, and virulent toxicity are extremely frowned upon in a lot of those circles.

But I think there's also a segment of the community who are extremely toxic and aggressive. The only thing you mentioned that I don't see really at all are the rampant slurs, and that's probably because (1) again, there's just no way to say a slur, and if you manage to get one past the chat filter, enjoy your ban later on, and (2) 75% of the community is gay, so certain words get used a little less.

Death threats and excessive toxicity are still pretty common, especially in Steam DMs and other places where certain people think that they can get away with it. I've never played another game where people have actually attempted to harm me because I used a strategy they didn't like.

  • (I will say that things were probably worse a year or three ago when half of the community was in its "Toxic Nea" phase.)

As some one whos been in the CS:GO community, DbD doesnt even come close to that cess pool and according to a few friends of mine, neither does League (theyve played DbD themselves quite a bit)

All you really have in DbD is whiny kids tell you to not play a certain way because they didnt like it. CS:GO on the other hand had cheaters that just spam slurs in VC until they got vote kicked, not to mention 3/4 mans bullying the hell out of their random(s) until the very last round to vote kick them so they got a penalty. You also had a very common term that included a slur in it.

The only game that I can think of that comes even close to CS is TF2. Watch a friend play it all the time and the cheaters/bots are rampant and do the exact same #########. Keep in mind I stopped playing CS in 2018, and from the looks of it there hasnt been anything to address the toxicity, and the community hasnt changed either.

Well, yeah. Like I said, we don't have voice chat. If not for that and the fact that the endgame chat is so filtered there's no chance for anything inappropriate to get through, you'd have a much bigger problem with slurs and the like, I'm sure.

Let's not forget why Bubba's face masks were removed.

Those types of people are around; DBD just does a much better job of disallowing them from expressing certain behaviors.

As far as what can actually be done: I've had teams of three survivors gang up on me with the killer and down me over and over again. I've had teams of teleporting Claudettes that disappear and reappear on a different gen whenever I get close to one. Those things are actually against the rules, but most examples of player toxicity are perfectly allowed.

Facecamping Bubbas who smack you on hook for three minutes and taunt you in the endgame chat. Ghostfaces who drop you in front of the hatch and slam it in front of your face. Doctors who slug everyone and go AFK in a corner.

I've had people spam my page with insults and blatant lies and random troll nonsense. I've had four-mans threaten me with physical violence, try to dox me, and attempt to send me computer viruses in Steam DMs because I tunneled.

I'm just going to guess that those people you've talked to haven't played a lot of DBD, or at least not enough to run into those sorts of people. Or maybe they just have their Steam comments turned off and don't engage with anyone outside of their little safety bubble, which might be the safer thing (and far less fun thing) to do.

Because I've talked to people who play those same games you mentioned, and they tell me that those communities don't come close to DBD.

I dont think anyone has been referring to the game being toxic, always its community

And even then its VERY tame compared to other communities out there.

I dunno. I've heard a lot of people with more experience than me say that it's the most toxic community they've encountered by far, moreso than CS:GO or League of Legends or any of these others out there.

We don't have voice chat and the endgame chat is filtered to a ridiculous degree, but the stuff that goes on on Steam profile comments says it all.

  • I combine it with Darkness Revealed and know where all survivors are at all times.

Lmao, a perk that gives you nearly half the hook stages on it's own, yeah, it's quite strong.

It's busted on infinite T3 Michael. Mediocre at best on everyone else.

  • Thinking about reinstalling these Pinball games now. I got an assload of DLC for them in random Humble Bundles.

I never understood why they discontinued Space Cadet Pinball in the later releases of Windows, always had more fun with that game than i ever did with some of the other windows games such as minefield.

Definitely looking forward to this collab though.

IIRC, they tried porting it to some other processors (this was before the days of 64-bit Windows), but it had some kind of a serious bug that rendered it unplayable, so it wasn't recompiled for Windows Vista. There are some articles about it online.
