Yay, Scott is becoming a Forum Killer.

If he was a forum killer he'd be making threads about how killer is impossible and every match is somehow a top 0.5% sweat squad.

I was fine with the add on change but the overheat mechanic reeks of "#########, we need to make it look like we're actually working".

  • Its not that hard to win unless its a 4 man toolbox gen rush squad.

And they aren't that common nowadays. I get maybe one a day.

  • There's too many perks that boost healing speed to allow a healing speed buff on Self care.

We don't need to go back to 2017, drop pallet, self care and be healed by your 6th pallet also there 28 pallets left.

  • I feel like I'd be OK with it not deactivating or having a skill check anymore in its current form.

The skill check isn't hard but it seems silly that you can even miss out on it with how situational it is now.

why are you chasing people for 80 full seconds uninterrupted if you're not getting hits

do you actually play killer? like, do you actually achieve kills as killer? or do you just boot it up, find the dude that ran to the exact center of the map because he specifically wanted to run you like an idiot, and then get run like an idiot for 5 minutes and then go "this game is so survivor sided #########" ❓

do you play killers that have chase-ending powers? or do you just pick ghostface and then go "well i'm a killer so i guess i'll chase!"

That first sentence pretty much sums this up. If you're doing that, you're just a bad killer. Look up some guides on how to play tiles or spread pressure and learn when to drop a chase.

Then again if people learned to play before coming here to complain we'd still be on our 4/5th page of threads.

  • I've been getting frame skips and even some weird lag spikes.

I am not bad at killer, i am red rank already and i have +%60 wins already. But i really hate losing gens so fast. I mean that makes games so sweaty. I have chill games as killer so rare. Always i have to show more effort.

Ruin is not helps, survivors finding it so fast. Even i protect it with Undying.

Pop helps little but still gens really so fast. So how you are dealing with that. Any tips? And i am patrolling gens as well, Freddy is good with that but still so many times i am losing 3 gens in start.

If you aren't patrolling gens ruin has no value. Pop is strong but only if you're good at ending chases fast.

Honestly you shouldn't really be having any trouble as Freddy. He downs pretty quick, can cross the map in seconds and has no setup.

Honest question - don't take offense - but why do so many people watch these DBD streamers instead of just playing the game themselves? To each their own, I'm not saying it's "bad", I just never understood why someone who's interested in a game would rather just watch someone else play it when they could be having the fun instead.

Feels like 90% of them just follow them to regurgitate their opinions. A streamer can lose a match for blatantly obvious reasons/misplays and their fanbase will make a thousand excuses and come on here and cry about it.

  • Oh my god Trapless, perkless Trapper is bad against a survivor who is blatantly better than 99% of all survivor players. I don't really get what Otz was going for with this experiment. Even if it means nothing to him he had to know his moronic audience would start parroting this as a talking point about balance.

Same thing happened when Tru3 uploaded a match where he just proxy camped the basement and the survivors did the smart thing and completed gens and he lost. Entire forum crammed with "SEE KILLER IS IMPOSSIBLE" threads.

Would it be weird if I said that one of the reasons I don't think 4 is the best game in the series is because it's too long? Like Re games are known for being shorter but with a load of replay value and different challenges (either set by the game or yourself) but 4 just feels like it drags on too much.

But I have to admit Leon kicking the ######### out of things is pretty hot

I've completed it over 30 times iirc and even I have "Wait, what part is this" moments. It's incredibly long. But for the most part its good. It does suffer from the usual Resident Evil trope of a 'meh' 3rd act.

I can understand getting tilted at the 4 toolbox BNP thing. Even then, I welcome the challenge there. I play tournaments so I'm used to ultra-sweat 4 man comms. And the teams that are bringing that stuff in pubs usually have no experience against a tournament killer who is actually practiced at camping/tunneling and protecting a 3 or 4 gen. So it's kind of fun to see if they know how to coordinate saves/unhooks, take chases to the correct areas, and actually communicate effectively.

I consider a good team a challenge but stuff like BNPs or Stypics to artificially lengthen chases past your skill barrier to be less of a challenge and more blatantly unfair. Same with Micheals toombstone piece just deleting a player.

Because this is Resident Evil (at least the early games). These camera angles give the game control over what you see and how you see it. It's meant to be able to generate the kind of fear movies can do but games with "normal" controls and cameras cannot.

Having said that, I can see why newer audiences find it strange and annoying. :) Also, I know that games can make some kinds of fear that movies cannot.

I'm holding out hope that one day we get another fixed angle game. But I will admit the RE4/2make over the shoulder is a lot more enjoyable to play imo.

    @GoodBoyKaru said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2199138#Comment_2199138

Yeah I know 4 isn't new I just see everyone always sing its praises as a game and I see why it's good I just don't see why it's the best :/

(but yeah let's not talk about 5 and 6)

Best level designs, super fun gunplay, the shop and upgrades system, the melee system, the bosses, the entire castle section. It's great.

Also RE is known for having cheesy/downright stupid dialog and taking itself too seriously (RE3make was really bad with this). 4 is the only one that really seemed to understand how stupid it was and leaned into it.

I think the reason I enjoyed RE8 so much is that its basically a RE4 remake in first person perspective. It even has the same level design progression. Village, castle, caves, industrial, etc. Even had a trader.

It also had a HUGE impact on the third person shooter genre.

That said a lot of people dislike 4 (and 8) from what I've seen because it isn't "scary" but I never found RE scary as an adult. They claim it was the "death" of the series when Resident Evil 3 and Code Veronica exist and were almost worse in that regard.

RE isn't scary in the same way Silent Hill was imo. SH was incredible sound design, knowing when and when not to show something, creepy characters.

RE is "oh crap im out of ammo and theres a crimson head ohshitshitshit". Tense horror or jumpscares, not refined like Silent Hill.

Edit: forgot you can also suplex cultists that look like darth maul

There are way too many maps on this game that are horribly survivor-sided where it just makes the game easy mode for survivors. If survivors want generators done and they are decent, you are going to have a hard time unless you're a A/S tier killer.

Sanctum of Wrath, Fractured Cowshed, Groaning Storehouse, Mother's Dwelling, Temple of Purgation, Gas Haven...the list goes on.

There are so very few killer-sided maps in this game in comparison. Killers are playing in a survivor's world.

There's a lot of maps that are awful for killer but I think a lot of killers are just too happy go lucky with their chases. You SHOULD be defending a third or half of the map that has 3-4 gens on it and not getting baited to run around the whole map.

They don't have a plan, they just run from chase to chase. All over the map, leaving gens undefended and allowing the survivors to split up.

  • @Munqaxus said:

My suggest to everyone is to actually keep stats of your games. After keeping stats of my games, I found that the games were heavily Killer sided. However, I haven't kept stats after the last patch and I highly think MMR has been turned on because my games seem a lot more balanced. The few games near the end of last patch, when they announced they were turning on MMR, suddenly took my survives vs kills to 50/50. Before, my kill rate was close to 80%, so a survivor would escape about 1 out of every 2 games, which was horrible and highly Killer sided.

Inclined to agree. When I play, say, 10 games as Doc at rank 1. It's rare for any of those games to not end in 3K and a hatch or a 4K. Even when you get 3 good players that give you trouble in chases, 1 weak link can send it all tumbling down.

Every so often I get a really strong 4 man SWF that just wipes the floor with me, but when I look back on those games they also had a really strong map for survivor or bought multiple BNPs.

I would consider solo survivor to be heavily killer sided nowadays tbh. There's such a disparity in survivor skill in red ranks that there's no telling if you'll get an immersed Claudette that has no idea what looping is and wastes 90% of pallets in one chase, or a god David that runs the killer for 4 gens.

As a someone who hasn't grown up with the series when you remove the nostalgia the newer games are just... Better than the old imho. 4 is fun and really good but I think the 2 remake is the best game in the series followed by Village. So if it is one of the older characters they'd probably be based off of the remake versions.

It's worth noting that Resident Evil 4 came out when I was 9. I'm 25 in six months. That game isn't new. And inbetween 4 and 7 was a rough time to be an RE fan.

I might get 4 but I need to clear a lot of space in my PC, and I don't really have a whole lot, but I'll see what I can do, however I have been saving my money for the chapter but we have to see how it turns out first

It's a contentious point for a lot of RE fans but I'd consider 4 to be not just the best game in the series, but one of the top 10 best games ever made.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Yeah, it always confuses me. I'm not sure what killers expect survivors to do. And usually when you get called out for a "gen rush" the killer's build is something like Iron Maiden/Dead Man's Switch/Thanat/BBQ at red ranks. Like...not sure what you thought would happen.

Even if you get into leaving teammates on the hook/slugged territory, sometimes that's the best play for survivors. And really, if the killer can't at least make *something* out of free hook states, that's on them as well.

That's the thing. Getting mad at survivors for doing their objective when you aren't giving them any opportunities for other playstyles is bizarre. What do you want them to do? Run alongside you while you chase someone else and give you free map pressure?

I get being mad at a 3-4- man swf all with toolboxes+prove thyself. That ######### is mad dumb and basically makes everyone spend more time in the lobby then game.

You heard it here first folks, Azarov's Resting Place is a survivor sided map apparently.

I feel like maybe an arguament could be made with old Azarovs with the super long middle section, but its easier than ever to force a 3/4 gen on that map now. I almost feel bad when I'm playing Doc or Demo and get Azarovs or the Mcmillan map thats very similar.

  • @Hermit said:

‘Killers’ complain about ‘gen rush’, ‘survivors’ complain about tunneling, aka ‘kill rush’.

Both terms just describe the optimal, focused play style for each side.

I would never consider Tunneling the always optimal playstyle for killer imo.

That said there are situations where you'd have to be braindead not to go for the recently unhooked, injured Claudette sitting on a gen in front of your face. In that situation if they get salty post game I don't even hear them out. That's just bad gameplay.

I have a personal rule about never hooking a survivor twice in a row as I don't think it makes for a fun/dynamic match. Some survivors pick up on this sometimes and get cocky with it and try to abuse my goodwill so I slug them and continue on.

  • Happens to me sometimes. Getting blinded by a flashlight beam you cannot physically see at all is annoying.

It should have been obvious from previous hints that it was going to be classic characters, but people were too busy riding the hype train. As cool as RE8 characters could be, it would be a huge middle finger to the people who've been with RE for all these years and that would be a loss in potential profit for Capcom and BHVR.

MCote literally said the anniversary will bring in some "Impressive Stars", as well as quoting Claire on the RE anniversary stream. The teaser we got also had a red Umbrella logo, which would be pointless if the chapter was from newer games.

Umbrella is in RE8. Though I agree with the rest of your points.

As i said other times here, i play killer too... mostly killer than survivor, but when i play this last role, i often face killers who say in chat: "You toxic tryhards... why the genrush? Can you do something different than just pressing M1?". It happens many times. End of game and in chat you meet an angry person who says the magic words: "you toxic genrushers". A part giving a new meaning to the word "toxic", is the "genrush" survivors fault? The game has one simple rule: "complete 5 generators in order to escape the trial and the killer must stop you to do so". What am i supposed to do in order to avoid the genrush based on your logic? Wandering around random, organizing parties with my teammates, doing absolutely nothing but giving you all the time necessary to hook every single one of us? Every time i hear this excuse, i cry out laughing. C'mon, killers, isn't that a pathetic and childish excuse for being a failure at the game? If i was able to "genrush" you, is because you gave me all the time to do it. Ez. So who's the fault? Me? I'm playing survivor, my job is do gens, juke you a couple of times and escape. Period. Your job is stopping me. Just do your job and if you wasn't able to do it, just say "gg wp" and move on!

A lot of killers (and survivors) are brought into this game watching -certain- content creators. These content creators make excuses every time they get outplayed, the players that watch them almost universally do this too, and one look at their chat corroborates it. I've questioned plays by big streamers before when I KNOW they misplayed and their entire chat would jump down my throat and call me a troll ____ main.

They like to be victims and have something to complain about, they aren't actually interested in improving from losses.

Of course there's also players that just aren't used to playing Asyms or games where they are on their own and don't know how to cope with the loss being thier fault.

Literally half of the perks in that picture that are "powerful", suck. Idk who made that chart but wow.

Exactly, you could do the exact same thing for killer. Yeah, OP. Visionary is REALLY strong.

  • My man put soul survivor on a graph to try and convince people its worth using.

  • I don't think it'd be wrong to say that a good 80% of killers/survivors that play this game, even in red ranks, aren't very good.

That's why its so shocking when you get an actually good team that isn't being carried by comms or a genuinly good killer that isn't relying on stacked slowdown.

  • Twins and Legion remain the only two killers where I wonder "what the ######### were they thinking"?

There's one I hate or think lack counterplay but aren't as mind numbingly dull as these two.

The OP was specifically calling out big maps. Also, people want Trickster to be 4.6 because they absolutely suck with him and don't want to adjust their playstyle or admit they cannot aim.

Seriously, for a killer that looks spray'n'pray, you really do have to be as accurate as Slinger or Huntress to do well.

I land my knives as Trickster. He's powerless at high wall loops. He's an absolute god on maps like Blood Lodge where the middle is all low walls but those types of maps are a exception, not the rule.

You literally have to fake going past a window and hope the survivor makes a bad play and runs out in the open to hit them.

  • I agree. Broken key with blood amber is game breaking and should be removed.

  • Plague fi your teammates are idiots.

Spirit and Death slinger for reasons I don't need to get into.

Hag because crouching is a lost art.

  • I've never used the prestige weapons. Just ugly as hell.

  • I used to do this one Doc but, honestly, that skill check is not hard to hit with enough hours in the game. It wasn't rare for me to not get a single overcharge pop for entire games when I used it.

    There's an unwritten rule:

At a certain time is when swf come out to play, don't play at that time unless your looking for a sweat fest.

Also, there's not enough killers as there is survivors/4, so they need to put killers against those who are higher level. It sucks, but that's gonna happen

This. Only play killer at peak times if you want to test your mettle.

  • imagine going for 4 hooks from slugs instead of 12 like a non slugging, insta hooking CHAD.

Been playing for well over 3 years now, started before Myers was released. My favourite DLC was Ghostface and Oni by a mile, I was generally hyped about those 2 and Deathslinger to a degree. But since slinger, I've been personally underwhelmed with the killers/chapter themes released since. I am a fan of intimidating, menacing killers, I also love the unlicensed designs like Spirit, Plague, Oni and most of the old school characters. Going through the last couple of years though (IMO)

Pyramid head - Not a silent hill fan, never played it, not a bad killer design but never wanted to play him.

Blight - Not a fan of Blight's appearance and I'm a console player so his movement wasn't going to be ideal even if I did like him. I never was really sold on the pin ball esc mechanics in the first place plus there was no new map either

Twins - Awful aesthetic, no new map, avoid (was playing COD CW at the time of this chapter)

    ....................................

At this point I'm eagerly awaiting the next one in the hope that its something menacing and someone who id like to play as. I was checking daily for killer trailers and rumours but had to be patient.

    Then I saw Trickster.

    ....................................

Trickster - Awful aesthetic and still can't see how he fits in dbd, I know that upsets a lot of people in the 'he doesn't have to be scary' fan club. His power looked pretty fun so I had to give him a try. Got bored of him pretty quick as he was weak as gnats **** and his knife throwing recoil was horrendous.

Chapter 20 - Like Silent Hill, never played RE so not a fan nor am I on the hype express. 😅 Going around in circles at this point. Surely they won't pick that Mrs DePetrescu (sounds like a Romanian footballer) over the Mr X guy. She could pass for Tricksters wife I guess, about as scary as each other. Hopefully there is a new map as i play a lot of survivor too.

    .................................................................

I know many out there and quite a few who read this will have enjoyed at least 1 of the last 5 chapters, if not all of them, but are there any like myself who are still stuck maining killers from the early to mid chapters out of disappointment and lack of excitement/thrill of the current crop? I still enjoy Ghostface and Oni too much to leave them for any of the new bunch. For me, roll on Chapter 20 so I can look forward to Chapter 21 speculation.

Of the last 5 chapters released Blight is the only killer I actually enjoy on both sides tbh.

Dead Dawg was a great map but deathslinger is so incredibly dull to play and not fun as survivor.

PP made me have a happy trouser accident when I realised it was Heather in the trailer but has an incredibly dull and boring power design, and Midwhich, while a fantastic remake of the SH1 school map, is abysmal to play on.

Twins is Twins and Trickster, while a little fun to play is so overwhelmingly weak even in the hands of a good killer that its hard to enjoy him.

I feel like I'm slowly falling out of love with this game and the recent chapters/killer powers are the main reason for it.

  • Deathslinger or Spirit. I don't find their powers particularly fun to use and playing against them just makes me want to play a different game.

  • I almost never get trash talkers in my lobbies nowadays. Usually its one of my teammates when I'm survivor but never as killer. Maybe its a playstyle thing.

Interesting. I think I'll try this again if I get any matches that reach endgame again as Doctor. I know Claudette was in madness 3 as she was healthy and doing the forward hunch that they do in madness 3.

I wonder if its one of those inconsistent bugs like Plague sometimes being able to poison pallets/vaults while in corrupt purge mode.

  • I dread to think of how dark these new maps are going to be.

Or are you gonna make a thread too crying about long queues?

Never made a thread crying about queues, I primarily play killer. And porn...?

I've been here for 4 years bro. Every killer I know who quit didn't quit because "boo hoo survivor too strong". They quit because of two reasons.

A, They thought killer had become too easy and it wasn't challenging to them anymore

    Or

    B. They found new killers/perks/maps not fun to play.

Played old Freddy for 2 years. I loved him, hate new Freddy and don't play him, but if you want a strong killer he wasn't it.

He also wasn't very fun to play against thanks to the 50% action speed slowdown and aura reading. I think both Freddies have been completely boring to play against, but old Freddy less so as he didn't have an answer to everything.

Old freddy was designed to slowly build hooks/pressure for a strong end game and a LOT of killers don't know how to do that.
