Other than the bugs it's all fine and dandy.
Most of the time I feel I can play anything and still have a chance. The key to not being tilted to oblivion as killer is accepting you're not gonna 3 or 4k every time. That's not how the game is supposed to go, and sometimes you WILL get outplayed (by the survivors, by BHVR or both).
Survivors do get outplayed by BHVR sometimes too, especially since dedicated servers, so it's not a killer exclusive problem.

" 'Scrub mentality' being a thing only applies to competitive games, which is not DBD's case."
I don't see how. It is more than possible to have a scrub mentality for less competitive games. Getting mad because the die roll didn't favor you in a board game when you went for a greed play instead of something safer.
From what you're describing, the solution would be to simply be more lenient to Survivors at lower levels and then remove the training wheels as you reach higher groups to make things harder and force them to gradually improve. If they don't play to improve, then that's entirely on them.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/952087#Comment_952087
This applies to other games that balance at high level, though.
Being more lenient how? Making the game fundamentally different at different ranks? I'm not sure that's good design.
What would the cuttoff be, considering even red ranks can (and often are) terrible at the game?
Scrub mentality is getting unfairly mad at the game instead of yourself for your losses. How does that apply to a game where quite a lot of the time the game IS, indeed, to blame? How does that apply to a game with zero competitive integrity?
What do you suggest balancing around? Generally that's done around data, but the data itself doesn't support what the majority of the community thinks of the game. What then? Are we gonna buff survivors or make changes counterintuitive to the data?
I stand by my opinion that this game needs to take itself seriously before it's balanced around high ranks. Especially considering half of high ranks are as much of a joke as green ranks, and if we make ranking up stricter, surprise, there's no one at red ranks around to balance the game for anymore.
Perfect balance isn't even a necessity. What we have is almost perfect now imo. A lot of perfectly balanced games have died for being too boring, and a lot of unbalanced messes are still loved by their communities. Not all games are born competitive, and I hope DBD never takes itself that seriously. It might just ruin the game.

What makes it way different? What you describe can easily be attributed to just scrub mentality, which is not uncommon in games in general.
"Scrub mentality" being a thing only applies to competitive games, which is not DBD's case.
The disparity between the rate at which survivors and killers improve is too great to balance around a hypothetical highest level. It works on more competitive games because of their 1v1 nature. Say it's a fighting game. You can check for matchup outliers at tournaments and characters that don't get used at all and balance accordingly. At a low level the only thing you need to do is stop zoning characters from dumpstering all the scrubs, which is relatively easy to do from a design standpoint.
Now think about DBD. The learning curve for a new survivor player is MUCH steeper than for a new killer player. Survivors who can't run tiles get dumpstered, killers who can't run tiles dumpster survivors who can't. And since it's an asymetrical game with two very distinct roles, it's a lot different to make the right design choices so that matches aren't that different at opposite ranks.
Another problem is how few people are actually decent at the game. Apart from a very small minority, few people play to improve, because of the lack of a competitive nature and ranking status in the game. In League of Legends, you climb because it's cool to show off your elo. In fighting games, there are quite a few cosmetic rewards, at least in the ones I play. But most importantly, improving feels a lot more rewarding in those games than DBD. We don't have a legit ranking system. People can't even define what a win is in this game. You can only start balancing around the highest level once you have more competitive integrity (which involves less randomness, better map design, a good ranking system and more people taking the game seriously which will never happen imo) and better design failsafes to keep it from ruining the experience for less skilled players. You should not balance a party game around the best 1% if it will make the game objectively worse for everyone else.
TL/DR dbd is not as honest or rewarding as a competitive game as legit competitive games and should not be balanced around the best players at the cost of everyone else

If that true then the remind nurse main will make her killate go up but we see that nusre have the lowest at 44%. For comparison hag have the lowest pick rate in the game and yet she the 4 deadly killer in the game.
It's a balancing rule in any pvp game ever that the hardest characters to play have the lowest win rates.
At red ranks her kill rate goes to 65% which is absolutely an acceptable number for a killer as hard as her in comparison to the rest of the roster.
What happened before was that she had a 78% kill rate which should NEVER happen for any character with a high skill cap because then it means even people who are new at her were doing well, so the mains were unstoppable no matter what. The good ones at least.

Why the heck would you over nerf nurse like that devs? You've lost 95% of the Red Rank Nurse Players since you reworked and nerfed her.
Of course she was OP at low ranks, but at red ranks against toxic coordinated swf groups, it's a must to have old nurse/Spirit.
Yes, the majority of red rank Nurses vanished because she's not freelo anymore. You actually need to be good with her to climb now, the way it's supposed to be.

The time that you wasted moriing is about the same of finding a hook and hooking the survivor, also if it becomes like that nobody will run moris since they can bring bp offerings that will be better
But they're not supposed to be any stronger than that. An offering shouldn't ever be gamechanging like moris are, not even close.
Moris are stronger than any add-on or item than any killer or survivor could bring. It doesn't make sense.

If they make them activate only in death hooks survivors they will be more or less useless, that's why I mentioned the other ways that can be changed...
They wouldn't be useless though. You save the time it would take to hook them and ignore DS.

No killer in this game is as bad as people make them out to be, but Legion is definitely on the weaker side.
I do think the only way to fix them is a full rework. Otherwise their kit is either weak or unhealthy.

They need to make deep wounds actually something to worry about. Know what good survs do the second you get them in frenzy? Mend. Right there. Not a whole lot of slowdown.
Reduce the CD for coming out if frenzy and he will be almost perfect.
Maybe make his frenzy hits go back to being basic attacks to stbfl and sloppy will apply again, but yeah
So he has to deal with safe loops the hard way like LITERALLY OVER HALF THE KILLER ROSTER ok dead killer move on
-
Ebony mori is much more problematic than keys in my opinion.
Keys are busted, yes. And they need changing too. But they're rarely used for more than one survivor.
Ebony moris are guaranteed wins if the killer has any sort of skill. Hell, even Ivory moris are way too game changing because being able to make the game a 3v1 that early is also pretty much a guaranteed win.
I feel like Cypress can remain as is, and the other two should only be allowed to use on survivors on death hook. As for keys, the absolutely necessary change imo is to make it so that the hatch closes after one person escapes through it. An opening animation would be nice too.

Can't upvote this enough. The "apply pressure" crowd must never play an M1 killer on Mt Ormond or Purgation. It can take 40 seconds to cross the map to where the survivors spawn if you get bad RNG on some maps. That's an entire gen without Ruin when toolboxes come into play. No amount of pressure changes a math problem.
"If" you get bad rng, "if" you're in some maps, "if" they have toolboxes, "if" they work through Ruin, "if" you have no CI.
Guess what, "if" you play killer on Azarov and they get bad spawn RNG the game is rigged in your favor too. This goes for both sides. How about we stop trying to balance the game around the worst case scenario that happens 1 out of 2000 times
-
Survivors never spawn all on separate gens unless the killer burns an offering for that.
If and only if they spread out, they'll also take quite some time to find separate gens to work on.
If they do that, you'll most likely find at least one of them while you're chasing another one, in which case you should drop the chase and disrupt the gen.
You're all assuming that they'll 1. work on separate gens 2. you won't find a single one of them while you're chasing the first 3. they won't 3-gen themselves, because if they do they lose 4. your first chase will take over 80 seconds. At least half of that is under your control.
And if they bring OP stuff, so can you.
As I said on another discussion, don't play like a bot and you'll find yourself being "genrushed" a lot less.
-
@theArashi said:
There is no effective strategy to counter genrush other then ending the chases instantly or hoping for survivors messup.
If killer actually gets more then 1 kill while tunnelling and hook camping it's the survivors throwing the game. Both are boring strategies for the other side.
There's a counter for most instances of gen rushing that don't involve huge maps or busted toolboxes. It's called not playing like a bot.
-
@EldritchElise87 said:
All both are is the sweatiest ways to play that dont take into account emblems or the other players. Its a kind of boring mindset in a game like this, but some people will always try and find the most efficient ways to "win" and given peoples definition of winning can vary, you cant really stop that.
Tunnelling is pretty inneficient for "wins" vs good survivors though. It might help you secure a single kill but if survivors catch on to what you're doing You're basically leaving two survivors absolutely unchecked at all times. Not to mention that DS and BT exist.
So yeah, you're relying on the survivors being stupid if that's how you approach the game.
-

Gen rush;
If you're tunneled, you can still loop the killer amd they might lose interest in you.
But if you're being genrushed, you might as well go afk.
Or or hear me out
You can learn to apply pressure instead of tunnel visioning into a chase that's taking way too long
You can slug
Yes, gens go by fast, but "genrushing" is as much as a problem as killers who don't know where to be in the map at the right times.
-
BBQ, Ruin, and I like Whispers on every single stealth killer. Fourth is Haunted Ground or Nurse's most of the time.
-
If 3 gens pop in your first chase as killer, unless all the survivors are running NASA toolboxes with BNPs, you took too long to end that chase, period. And that's on you.
Knowing when to give up a chase is a skill all killers should have before calling themselves decent killers.
-
Tunnelling just to be an ######### to a specific person is a problem, "tunnelling" because it's a good strategic move, as it is sometimes, has nothing bad about it. If there's no obsession and a recently unhooked survivor just runs at you it's on them.
And it's not "toxic" for survivors to complete their literal only objective in the game ffs
-
You can't call a game with zero competitive integrity a competitive game.
Full of RNG, there's no clear win or loss, the ranking system is an absolute joke.
DBD is MUCH closer to a party game than a competitive game. Calling it competitive is an insult to competitive games as a whole. We can start thinking about it when the randomness is reduced by like 80%,
-

Iridescent Head is just hated because it can make subpar Huntresses into bringers of death and pain.
No, it's hated because good Huntress players are unstoppable with it.
Good Huntress players will almost never miss a melee hatchet, hit the majority of hatchets between tiles and if the map has short loops, the only chance survivors have is pray that Huntress misplays horribly.
No great Huntress player will miss 3 hatchets in a row in a chase unless they're going for risky shots, which you don't have to do with Iri Head.

Out of all the maps in the game Gas Heaven is one of the last ones you should be complaining as killer but OK
Comparing that to the Ironworks window... You ok bro? Gas Heaven middle building is one of the most balanced in the game

And to think that it all could have been avoided if the game were better at detecting whether you're in a chase or not.

For me this is pretty simple tbh. If I'm killer I only camp when I see no one in BBQ and the survivors are playing poorly, because I know good survivors won't let me get away with it if they actually want to escape. If I'm solo survivor I just run Kindred and save myself the bother.

I dont think you play much hag...this changes nothing about her play style..it just allows her to play the game..shes got multiple trap counters, a complicated style compared to other killers , 110 speed, and is extremely addon dependent..everybody just runs max range anyway so why not make her more free to use other addons..? There is nothing even remotely proving this would topple her..that's implying shed beat freddy , spirit , billy, and arguably nurse..with this one change..now you see why I dont think your looking at this factually as far as your just assuming any "buff" would break her..because as she sits shes good..but doesnt hold a candle to some of the others
I main Hag and I haven't used any add-ons in weeks. She doesn't need them to be nearly as good or as good as Billy in the right hands. I've played her pretty much since I've started playing the game. So yes, I play her a lot, and I absolutely guarantee you she doesn't need extra range or anything else to be a very good killer, so you're starting from a bad premise.

This is still on topic though...? I'm merely stating why I disagree with your opinion. She doesn't need this and it counters one of her weaknesses which is she can't be literally everywhere. Hag is exactly fine the way she is and what makes her unpopular is that
- She's short
- She's slow
- She requires planning and a lot of people think that's boring
That change would only make her stronger, which she doesn't need, and she'd still be unpopular. So I don't think it's a good idea.

I actually feel Hag is the killer who cares about the map she's in the least. Since you're most likely playing half map every single time, I'm not bothered at all when I get an atrocious map... barring Ormond because it's still BS for everyone and Yamaoka because it's hard to see stuff. Other than that she does well in every map I feel.

I said it would make sense. I didn't say they should touch her before the low tier killers.

To me personally that sounds like a problem with larger maps and not hag herself.
Same goes with huntress and when it comes to larger maps for her or even indoor maps. There's nothing necessarily wrong with huntress herself but instead its the actual map
But that's the point. When half the maps in the game are awful for Huntress (indoor, too big, too cluttered), it stops being a map problem and it becomes a Huntress problem.

I wouldn't be against her being able to shoot across the map. Oh, wait ...
Which part of maps getting bigger AND more cluttered did you not understand?
The only maps where she can cross map people are maps she already does well on. Ormond, Yamaoka, etc she can't do #########.
Not to mention the indoor maps. She's forced to behave like an M1 killer for a lot of the time on those maps, except she's slower than all of them.
At least bring up decent points if you're gonna be snarky.

Yeah, and they released Temple of Purgation this year. A huge ass map.
They don't seem too keen on shrinking maps anytime soon. So the logical thing is to bump up her movespeed. Or are you in favor of doing neither and leaving Huntress players to spend half the match walking places every time they get a big map?

Huntress is still one of the strongest killers in the game.
Doesn't change the fact that there are some disgustingly huge maps in the game and she's the only slow killer who can't do anything about that.
She's strong, yes, but she's probably the most map reliant killer in the game.

If Hag haves 115% movement speed, why would I play Trapper? And Imagine almost an corrupt purge at all time with Huntress
While I don't think that's the best comparison, because Trapper needs buffs in the first place, all I said is that she'd be more popular, not that they should do it. I don't think she needs it at all.
Huntress, on the other hand, is in a different spot. Back when she was released she had to need to be 110% because maps were better for her. Now, however, there are maps where you're literally unable to use your power in most loops. Huntress thrives when she can hit hatchets over loops and even between tiles. She can't throw over loops in most maps, and even between tiles things get worse for her with every new map that gets released. Plague's power is weaker when she has no Corrupt Purge but it slows her down way less and is much easier to hit.
Right now, the only killers who have sub 115% speed are Nurse, Spirit and Hag (all of which have some sort of mobility or map pressure) and Huntress, who... has neither. At this point with map design the way it is I think her power no longer gives her enough benefits to justify a 110% movespeed. And being normal movespeed wouldn't even make her too strong in the maps where she's already good.
Try playing her in Red Forest and telling me she's not too slow.

Franklin's demise is a joke against SWF, someone else will pick up the flashlight while I'm chasing. The perk only works properly against solo players.
I truly don't see how Hag can be top tier killer when literally all she has is a trap that you can teleport to for an M1 hit. And that's if you teleport instantly, if you teleport after half a second you'll just end up in a chase that lasts forever with her speed.
Against solo players I do fine with the Hag. Against SWF I do terribly, and on console that's 90% of the matches. Yes, other killers also suffer from SWF, but the Hag suffers much more than others, even more if there's a flashlight. What use is laying down a trap when someone will destroy it with a flashlight 5 seconds later because it was called out on voice?
I feel like I'm talking to PC players here. I don't know what PC matchmaking is like but the vast majority of console matches are against 3-4 man SWF groups. Nearly everyone with a console has a headset and console players play with friends more often than PC players.
I've faced plenty of SWF groups in red ranks as Hag and never had any trouble I wouldn't have with any other killer. I think you just need more experience with her.
If you're good you should be getting an instant or near instant hit every time your trap is triggered, so no long chases. You need to constantly have your finger ready on the teleport key as Hag.
Besides, they have no way of knowing it's a Hag. So your nightmare scenario would be more than one person bringing flashlights and someone with OoO to see where you place traps, while someone is doing nothing besides following you to deactivate traps. That's just not realistic.
I think you just need to play more calm and confident against these groups as Hag.

Since you main her like a friend of mine I got a question. Do you get crap chaser emblem as well when you do well? Usually if I dominated with her I barely manage silver.
Yeah I do feel like if I stomp too hard with her the chaser emblem can get a bit ######### sometimes. Not as much as Billy's or Plague's though.
They should just rework the emblem system to something tailored to specific killers imo, it's a joke sometimes. You can't compare Hag's or Billy's chaser to a M1 killer and analyze them with the same parameters.
-
This would mitigate her weaknesses too much imo.
I don't think this would make her more popular. What would make her popular imo is making her 115% movespeed, which I don't think would make her broken but the devs don't like changing that apparently (Huntress should have been increased to 115% a long time ago but they stated they don't want to do that iirc. At least Hag's power isn't invalidaded in indoor maps like Huntress')
-
Spirit remained in her busted state for over a year.
Nurse remained in busted for over 2 years.
No, they're not fast to nerf anything. The only fast nerf they gave for a killer was Oni, and guess what, they also buffed Ghostface extremely fast when he was garbage in the PTB. The devs are getting faster with balance changes in general and that's a good thing.
Gotta drop some facts to see if the echo chamber gets a bit quieter, because oh boy, this ######### gets old fast.

@Tr0g said:
I feel like Hag is extra problematic against SWF. Other killers retain their abilities but if there are 1-2 flashlights and voice comms in the game your traps are pointless. And then you're just an M1 killer with 110% mov speed and a crappy camera height.
She has traps that she can teleport to, to M1 people.. So you have to play mind tricks twice to get 1 down. Other killers have abilities to down someone immediately. Freddy can teleport to any gen of choice (or fake teleport) while also countering loops with his Dream Snares. Doctor can counter loops with his shock while also passively making the game more difficult for survivors and revealing their positions. Demogorgon can teleport around the maps using portals. All those killers have 115% mov speed too. Hag depends on her traps being triggered to use her underwhelming teleport ability.
I just feel the Hag's ability is underwhelming compared to other killers. Like someone said, you're only supposed to play one half of the map. It's like you must go for a 3-gen strategy otherwise you can't win. And when you're down to 3 gens her poor chase potential will make the game an endless stalemate.
On console 90% of games are against SWF with voice comms (consoles are more social), so I consider gameplay against SWF to be standard.
If there`s a flashlight - Franklin`s. I'm a Hag main and I never have trouble with flashlights, not even against SWF. The only time when flashlights are a problem is when someone has OoO.
Her teleport is NOT underwhelming. If you're placing your traps appropriately you should never get looped, ever. If you're commiting to chases in places where you don't have traps that's on you. That's the simplest mistake people make when playing Hag, and people who think she's bad generally don't execute her gameplay properly. Half of the work of the chases is done before you run into survivors. There's a very simple flowchart here. If they're running towards your traps, you down them, no questions asked. If they're not, you abandon chase and go somewhere else. She downs people faster than anyone else if you execute her properly. She has ways of near instantly hitting survivors after the trap is triggered, leaving little to no counterplay after they run into your traps.
Yes, she plays half map. And that's a good thing. Unlike other killers you don't have to worry about patrolling every generator. Hag has the absolute best zone control of the game, bar none. Survivors may get one or two generators for free, but once you get one down and you set up your traps around 4 gens, they're playing your game.
Hag's not for everyone. She requires conceding, patience and planning ahead. People who think she's weak are simply not playing her properly. And that's fine tbh. Just like Nurse and Huntress aren't for everyone, Hag has her very specific playstyle which is different from anything else in the game but also extremely strong. She's MILES better than most killers in the game once you learn how to properly use her. Don't dismiss her strength before watching people who can actually play her.
And please don't compare her teleport to Freddy's. Hag teleports and smacks you instantly. Freddy has a 5 second warning. His teleport isn't meant for chases, hers is.
-
It would never ever be balanced but I feel this game could benefit from having rotating meme modes tbh.

i don't see the point in applying punishment to those that are AFK, whether by accident or on purpose. the killer isn't holding the game hostage, breaking the game itself, or anything, and it's not like the survivors still can't get their points or escape. the only issue i have with it is for those who are seeking to depip purposefully and choose to afk for that reason.
i really wish others would stop taking this game so seriously and find ways to punish others for even doing the smallest of things. real life stuff happens, people forget they're in queue, etc.
it's unreasonable to jab a finger at afk killers when survivors can also do the same thing as well; afking in lockers, corners of maps, or simply just not being active at all and staying in place.
Punishing afk players and DCs is standard practice on any team game. Not people who afk once in a blue moon, but honestly, if you're displaying that kind of behavior often then you're not doing any good to the game or the community and you should probably be punished.

This isn't a product of the new rank reset. Rank has never meant much in this game, for both sides. Red ranks is ridiculously easy to achieve as either survivor or killer if you play enough hours.
This game has more of a matchmaking system than a ranking system, and that's ok. It's not a competitive game.
