It's 0 fun going against those killers. People that think otherwise either main one of them or are low mmr
Haven't seen someone drop the no true Scotsman fallacy in a while.
Because it's a particularly weak ploy. All three are fun to go against if you're not a potato. You can watch high level play on twitch and youtube and see people enjoy going up against these killers, no matter how badly you cry the opposite.

So it seems that all the toxicity is only punishing those that are toxic...
Use SmartFace to be toxic? Get the cosmetics removed.
Camp/Tunnel? BT could be basekit!
If the toxicity keeps up we could lose the ability to crouch, or survivors could pick themselves up if slugged for too long, etc...
This should be a wake up call to those who like being toxic - keep it up and they will simply take away your tools to be toxic.
Hopefully people can just be decent from now on but I've lost hope tbh...
Tunneling and camping is not toxic. Calm down.

But like...
if the killer is standing on the hatch several meters away, theres literally no danger
If the killer starts coming towards you, book it for the hatch
If the killer closes the hatch, youre in a situation you were gonna end up in anyway which is solo EGC, its inevitable.
If they stay on the hatch, finish the remaining gens until you can power the gates and youre at scenario 2
This strat doesnt work if the Survivor has a some what functioning brain
The strat is the killer closes the hatch when a gen completes because now the survivor has compromised his position. The standoff is more killer sided than the traditional immerse till hatch closes and stealth a gate.
This should only be done when the gates are unfavorable to the killer or if the hatch is across the map from both gates and the killer knows they need time.

Using Nurse as a justification for more stats is pretty weak, since she is the only Killer who is very different from all other Killers.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2764459#Comment_2764459
Even if you include all of this, people would still find reasons to see why the stats are not true.
With the current stats we have, you can at least see that playing Killer is not as bad as people claim it to be.
Using Nurse was an example, not a justification. @ThiccBudhha provided several more in his response. The whole point is playing Killer IS as bad as people make it out to be and they homogenized the dataset by refusing to show us the data by bracket.

Soul guard is so underrated... It is actually the main reason I run iron grasp/agitation. I respect it THAT much. But yeah, I get why people dodge them. I just don't bother because of what OP said, you just backfill into another one and I do not have the patience for that myself. I came from Overwatch to dodge long queues, I am basically allergic to them to the point where I didn't even want to do my survivor daily at all into being a survivor main during the day. I am that committed to the cause. I hate survivor mains with ever fiber of my being and even I have become one... I have no morals.
I was about to genuinely sus the sincerity of your post and then it slowly devolved into your good ole' self.

Oh I did lol switched to nemesis who I have a little, not much, but a little more experience with. Got another full swf, all the same perks, got the largest macmillan map variation. 5 gens in 4 minutes with 3 hooks. Fun.
This just happened to me. Ruin got found in 5 seconds. All Scourge hooks were nowhere to be found because the map has more Zip Codes than my grandpa's asscheeks.
Needless to say, I've revised my Nurse build.

The data all exists in the same dataset. It would literally take them 15 seconds. Filter FOR SSBM greater than or equal to 1800. Done.
Edit: Based on Nurses stats alone we know it should be SIGNIFICANTLY different.

The next discussion about CoH being nerfed while leaving NOED untouched just shows exactly what I mean. For 1 survivor main or an unbiased person there are more than 20 pure killer mains, most of which never touched the survivor role. Why do some streamers mention the "shortage of killers" when judging by the forums 19 players out of 20 mostly or only play killer?
This post is just as factually inaccurate as your posts on that thread, too.

I mean... yeah Killers use aura reading, but Killers can't be inflicted with blindness. Survivors don't really use aura reading though. Least not usually.
The topic is about aura blocking right? It goes both ways, but I could say yeah maybe I misunderstood.
Alert, Dark Sense, and a few other perks are heavily underrated. But that's not because aura reading is bad, that's because people are meta do or die.
Edit: I reread the thread again. Whoops. It's been a long day.

Yeah, personal insults are even stronger an argument.
About what you are saying beside that: try utilizing this perk while playing in soloQ, just try. You will spend half of the game looking for totems and mostly will encounter broken bones. And even after you succeed, your boon might be gone in a second, literally, because that's how long it takes for the killer to snuff it. And the killer certainly won't have problems finding it, given its loud noise for 50 meters.
Why does it happen so that I've never had problems with this perk even while playing against SWFs? It's not nearly as strong as DS and DH.
I DO utilize this perk in soloQ. It's busted as hell. I play 60 killer/40 survivor, where that mix is 20 solo/20 SWF with over a thousand hours in this game. But my personal experience isn't valid, or even required. You don't know what you're talking about, you're just throwing out words without any reason or evidence to back it up.
DS and DH are their own problems. COH is a different beast entirely and you can evaluate it on it's own and come to the conclusion that it's too strong. That's why the math was done. Look at the #'s and the perks efficacy. It gets value almost every game, and when it does that value is disproportionate to the single perk slot it costs.
Your personal experience makes not an acceptable argument. I'm so tired of seeing anecdotal nonsense on this forum.

You can say the same about CoH causing killers lose games. It's not an argument. The perk is weaker than Self-Care in soloQ.
What are you on? I want some.
COH has an AURA that all survivors can see. Every damn survivor unhooked can run to it and heal themselves up, saving the time of the unhook and allowing them to field more perks.
Use your critical thinking skills. They're there, somewhere.

The unfortunate thing is I am playing a killer that can circumvent them but I'm still struggling with pallets a lot. I'm not able to callout Survivors dodging my Punishments rn outside of being stuck in animation, and I can't always tell when a Survivor is gonna camp a pallet and throw it or just run away.
The only suggestion I can make to that is force them to throw it. Play the M1 if it's that close so they take the hit or they drop.
Its lose/lose either way, but at least this way the pallet is pulled.

Not sure if it's just me or the maps I play have a pallet at nearly every tile. I vividly remember a Dead Dawg Saloon game where there was both a pallet right outside main and one right outside Killer Shack less than 15 feet from each other. Just played a game on Eyrie of Crows and I think there was only one tile without a pallet too.
Maybe I'm just bad but it feels really difficult to play against this many pallets.
Picking a killer that can ignore or circumvent pallets is a must. If you're rocking Myers or Ghostface, you're getting either pre-palleted till the cows come home, or if they're a good looper, lapped several times and then pallet stunned till the cows come home.
Either way, the cows are coming home.

I think people are intentionally forgetting the 14 second blessing time of a totem and the amount of time to either find a totem or move to a totems area of effect (Which is probably around ~8ish Seconds with small game, much higher without small game).
New CoH - 1st Heal
- 8 Seconds to find a totem
- 22 Seconds = (8) + 14 blessing time of totem
- 40 Seconds = (22) + 18 healing time
New CoH - 2nd Heal
- 48 Seconds = (40) + 8 Seconds to Find Totem
- 66 Seconds = (48) + 18 Seconds Healing Time
- 33 Seconds = 66 / 2 Heals
New CoH - 3nd Heal (Break even point with Self Care)
- 74 Seconds = (66) + 8 Seconds to Find totem
- 92 Seconds = (74) + 18 Seconds Healing Time
- 31 Seconds = 92 / 3 Heals
As you can see. CoH isn't that great, unless you get at least 3 heals off of it before the killer breaks it. Otherwise Self-Care outperforms it.
Survivors don't need to actively look for totems. They commonly spawn on-top of them at the start and walk into them through sheer fact that they're placed on the same tile sets that the gens sit on. There's only a few exceptions like the 2 blackwater swamp wall spawn locations.
Also, your assumption isn't really supported. 3 heals is not a lot. If a killer hooks 3 people, that is 3 people getting a COH benefit once they're unhooked (More valuable to run to boon then to take rescuers time). The fact is survivors putting down a COH get paid dividends unless they are potatoes who bless right in front of the killer or can't use their critical thinking skills when they choose a totem to bless. COH shouldn't be balanced around those latter exceptions, it should be balanced around the survivors who are making bank on it and completely eliminating the divide and conquer playstyle that this game so desperately needs to get people to shut up about tunneling.

These """comp""" players are too insecure to test their skills in an actual competitive game so they decide to sit in a casual game and destroy casual players.
This is the reason you, yes you that are reading are probably not enjoy Dbd anymore. It's not the "killer mains" or "survivor mains" that are leaving this game, but the people that actually bought it to have some fun and take it casually

...That's not a strawman, at all.
I can attest that as more of an intermediate player who prefers to play a bit chill, most of my games are way better than they were under ranks.
Actually:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2760387#Comment_2760387
That's a pretty good example of a strawman. Or at least an analogy so faulty that it's pretty damn close to one.
He's saying that it's an improvement. He's not saying that it's perfect. No MMR system is perfect.
The issues with ranks were:
- Killers had zero/little matchmaking protection for much of it. You can confirm this if you look at my very earliest posts, where a dev responded and talked about this.
- Killers would get matched against a much wider variety of skills. This is easily confirmable by Otz's 'streak' videos, where he was able to get 100 wins with no addons while now he really struggles to get 20.
- It was so easy to smurf your ranks down that even fog whisperers were openly doing it.
SBMM isn't perfect. But 'perfect' will always be the enemy of 'good', and the nemesis of 'better'.
His TLDR was that MMR does work. My TLDR is that it doesn't. He responded to me by comparing it to other systems as a direct improvement. I'm not sure what's complicated here.
I never once responded to the idea that it's an 'Improvement'. I'm sure I could devils' advocate in favor of some things that the old emblem system brought, but that was never my point and I don't know why you both are looking at it through that lens. The current MMR does not work. It directly spoils the experience for a large portion of the playerbase, and unfortunately some of those people being adversely affected are the exact players we NEED. The new ones, who haven't even gotten a chance to learn the game.

It’s not a strawman, you’re saying MMR is bad but assuming it’s because the underlying ratings are wildly inaccurate. I’m saying the issues with MMR aren’t the numbers being accurate, it’s to do with factors outside that like being put into first available slots when you’ve waited to long that would be inherent in any matchmaking system.
A system that struggles to find an equal opponent for you so much that it puts you against someone with a wildly incomparable rating is BAD.
You're phrasing this so weirdly. "Our rocket that doesn't fly to the moon totally flys to the moon, they just gotta fix the engine first. And the fuel injection system. And the faulty clay shielding."
Edit: It's also still a strawman dude. We don't need to draw any comparisons to previous or alternative systems to understand that the current MMR, as we have it, is BAD.
-
@dugman said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2760366#Comment_2760366
Aside from new player initial rating being high, those “glaring issues” existed in the emblem system too, and also would exist in the similar systems people say they want.
Strawman? I'm not saying the old system is good, and I'm not saying the ideas presented by this player base are good. The MMR we have now is awful. There is almost nothing desirable about it. Full stop.
-
@dugman said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2760342#Comment_2760342
The devs have already indicated that brand new player MMR is starting out too high. Right now they start around average, they are going to lower that starting point.
Also even if MMR is 100% accurate you will still get mismatches simply by virtue of the game needing to put people in who have waited a while and to quickly fill lobbies where someone left, as well as swfs where one friend is significantly higher level than another.
And all of these glaring issues debunk the idea that MMR is healthy or in a good place. How do you think that killer felt when me and my friends prevented him from getting even a single hit? How do you think that survivor felt when my Nurse put him down like a '71 volvo in a trash compactor?
Those games aren't just devoid of fun for both parties, they're soul-crushing for the loser.
Also, I'll believe they will fix it when they actually fix it. Not a moment sooner.
-
@dugman said:
I don’t usually post about videos but OhTofu had an interesting video about MMR this week where he breaks down what he considers faulty arguments against the system and arguments against it that have some validity. A lot of what he says I’ve said independently at one point or another so I wanted to give the vid a shout out.
I’m not going to try and bullet point the whole thing, but TLDR you can tell MMR actually does work because of people complaining how they have to “sweat” to get 1-3 kills. Having to work hard most matches to get 1-3 kills as a killer means you’re actually tending to go against survivors your own skill level. Likewise MMR doesn’t force you to play any particular way, but obviously if you play suboptimally then you shouldn’t expect to be winning when you happen to be matched against survivors who play better and have more effective loadouts than you. There are issues with MMR, such as nobody having any idea what their MMR is so everybody complaining about it is grasping at air what the numbers really are, but by and large the system does produce closer matches on average than the old emblem system.
The strongest argument he feels that is valid is that MMR just highlights that top level playstyle and meta isn’t as fun as less effective styles. In other words the more you win the more you encounter the same builds and playstyles and killers, and either you tend to lose to those (which obviously losing is less fun than winning) or you mimic the meta to keep up. Again, this means MMR is giving a good estimate of performance, but it’s making it even more clear where balance issues and similar problems exist at the higher level of the game. Nothing prevents you from running whatever fun build you like, but the more you win with that build the more you come against better loadouts that tend to thwart it. You have to be prepared to “win less” to have “more fun”, that’s the paradox and problem which MMR is bringing to light. It’s not even so much a problem with MMR itself, but more an underlying fundamental issue with how DbD as a game is designed in the first place.
As a survivor with over 1000 hours in the game I've gone against killers with under 100.
As a killer with over 1000 hours in the game I've gone against survivors with 20 hours.
What?
The complaining about MMR is not arbitrary, or random.
-
I think killer mains are more numerous on the forums, not because they have more complaining to do necessarily, but because it's a role that's easier to identify with.
Spirit, Deathslinger, Hag, Nurse, these are characters with rich differences and nuances. Every killer is it's own playstyle, this is not true for survivors who are basically all carbon copies. I think even though there are less killers out there than survivors, there is going to be a greater passion for the role because of the benefits to storytelling and class fantasy that it brings.

I'm sure everyone has experienced this. Multiple games in a row where someone DCs the second they get downed, hooked or someone else does.
This not only results in the other 3 survivors having a miserable game and probably losing very quickly, but it also makes things annoying for the killer.
Now, it's understandable that there are rare occasions where someone will have connection issues or have to DC in a game that's being held hostage, but it really shouldn't be the case where at least 1/3 of the time where I get a good start as killer, someone just DCs. Hell, there are certain killers (Cenobite, Demo, Plague) and addons (Pig's Tape is the easiest example) that people will yank their cable against as soon as they notice.
It's really annoying.
Is there any way to discourage this?
Up the penalty on subsequent disconnects. Either you know your internet is unstable after the first DC, or you are deliberately DCing.
Edit: As a further point. I do not know a damned person on this planet, if genuinely invested in improving their internet connection, who has not learned CMD: Ping -t www.google.com. So if someone says they have repetitive internet issues, that's not our problem. That's between them and their ISP. I once spent a year and a half harassing comcast to fix my internet outages that they kept comparing to the lochness monster. They eventually acquiesced to my evidence.

tbh, I don't think it would increase the lobby time, espacially like I said I would split it trough Ranked and Normal. It's kinda boring for me as Killer to see Survivors always taking BT, DS, DH, IW, Circle of Healing etc. and I'm bored as Survivor to take these perks. It feels like running in circles choosing perks. You could change at Killer banning perks that they could just ban 1 Perk of every type like 1 Exhaustion Perk, 1 Healing Perk, 1 Second Chance Perk and 1 Item Perk or smth like that. It's possible too for survivor. I just think it's feel like by choosing perks "You HAVE to take this perk or you lose"
This game does not have a population that can support dividing it further into two different queues. Time increase 1. Time increase 2 is you literally adding more seconds to each lobby for the banning phase. I already have 20+ minute queues as Survivor, and this would hurt killers more than it helps them, meaning it would not alleviate the killer deficit we already have.
-
It increases lobby time and guts certain killers. Gotta pass.

I told you why it's not a lose/lose situation because you cant afford to waste time chasing survivors in dead zones. Agreeing with you and trying to explain that it's not a loss if you do give up the chase. Reason being survivors have one primary objective in this game -- generators. You are better off patrolling unfinished gens which deserve more of your time and will often give better results. Again...agreeing with you that hunting totems and survivors in dead zones is a moot point. But reiterating to some degree that you are not at a loss because you have to drop a chase like that.
I have no clue what you're going for here. I didn't write my comment directed at anything you said in particular. I was setting the record straight for people who didn't have a finer grasp of the cost/benefits of COH.

So a slant-rhyme is a type of rhyme? Okay, so what I said is still true then in that the words rhyme. It may be an imperfect rhyme, but still deemed a rhyme nonetheless that's recognised in prose and poetry.
Barely, by definition, a definition that almost no-one uses. Otherwise, there would be many words that rhyme with orange. And we all know that isn't true.

If you’re playing killer and you’re playing in a scummy way such as shaking you head no, hitting on hook, camping the whole game, tunneling one person the entire match, and slugging to death, why do you get mad if survivors manage to get the gates open and teabag you? I understand the killers that play normally and still get teabagged, that’s understandable… but to the others (which is about 70% of the killer players), why? You kinda deserve it.
The whole point of your thread is to try and brand valid, approved by BHVR tactics as scummy.
It has nothing to do with whether or not killers get mad at teabagging, because as you already know that's not the only outcome. There's this, Gasp, reality where they're also not mad.

I guess I'm not understanding how being polite is the wrong way to go about things.
It's not the killers job to respond to you. If you need to make a thread questioning how gracious killers are because they don't respond to a private message, you have unrealistic expectations and you're not doing it in good faith.

Everytime a killer gives me the hatch, if they're on the same platform as me, I message them and say thank you. Not once have I ever heard back. Which is FINE. I'm not saying thank you for the validation. What I'm wondering though is, am I doing something I shouldn't? Should I just take the hatch and be done with it? I don't know. What do you guys think?
Don't send them a message for hatch unless it's end game chat. They're the killer. They gave you the hatch, defying the entity and ending the match. They've already moved on to the next set of survivors to butcher.

Everything is legit in DBD now days. They give a ######### about hackers. There's no day without some hackers in my matches. I faced so many obviously hackers than never. Survivors and killers. It doesn't matter. And they are very happy hacking in your face because devs don't care. So there's nothing not legit in this game.
Nah, hacking is not a legit strategy. Your hyperbole doesn't change what's outlined in the TOS.
