So to start off, the twins as a killer have severe issues that the devs did not see coming in internal testing.
Someone has made a post explaining the issues with the twins in an in-depth manner much better than I ever could, read it if you want: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/210797/the-way-people-play-with-the-twins-proves-an-interesting-point#latest
for those who do not want to read it I'll summarize. The twins have thrown the spotlight on the issues of camping and slugging.
Now the devs have said before that they consider camping/tunneling/slugging to be valid tactics. But, they have implemented perks that act as band aid fixes for the abuse of those mechanics. DS for tunneling, BT for camping, and Unbreakable for slugging. It is worth mentioning that the only one of these that completely counters it's related issue is unbreakable. The devs also have somewhat recently brought up the point of how fun it is to go against something.
Those tactics (except camping) can make up for shortcomings in the match. Tunneling can keep survivor on a hook, thus requiring someone to get them off. Slugging is used to be able to apply massive slowdown by preventing multiple survivors from working on gens, while forcing a healthy survivor to pick them up. The main point is these tactics slow the game down to a point where the killer can win against coordinated teams.
So with all of that in consideration, why have the devs not addressed these issues? They are aware that fun is a factor in gameplay. But have not made Any attempts to make protections from those tactics in the base game. Despite many survivors complaining about how unfun they are.
At the same time, they have ignored the issue of match speed, something the 'unfun' tactics are used to address by players. That issue was to be resolved by the Early game slowdown mechanic, something that has not been mentioned for about a year, despite many voting for questions related to it in the QnA vote.
So why have those core issues not been addressed in the four years this game has been out?
Give your thoughts, sorry if this post comes off in a certain way. The intention was not to talk smack about the devs, but ask a legitimate question.
And please keep it civil in the comments
Go watch the balance dev on twitch. Realize how futile your request is.
He, himself, camps and tunnels off the hook pretty much constantly.

Why release a champion that is still so buggy as to be unplayable? It happens at least once per match that my Victor gets bugged out and stuck in the floor. Sometimes, when I do manage to successfully unbind him without glitching him, I see him floating in the air above survivors I've pounced on. Not to mention that Victor can't even do the locker ability that he is supposed to.
This killer isn't even playable at this point. What kind of lazy, leeching development team does this? Release a hotfix for these two. There is no excuse for it.
Just an FYI, but you can pounce people in lockers. It'll make your life way more bearable.

Everything you said was dumb, I sincerely mean that. The advent calendar is a cheap and easy cop-out to incentivize their dwindling player base to keep logging in. You'll eat that ######### and thank them for it? Excuse yourself while the rest of us have the audacity to ask for a finished product.
Not to mention the gatekeeping on the very first line...
No true fan BS, mixed with some serious Stockholm syndrome... If you like something, just handwave off all it's issues, it's fine.

At least I can say, I was here the day big Tim got banned...
-
Was some game play shown in the stream, and if so, does anyone have a time stamp? I've been bouncing around through it, but cannot find anything about it.
-
It looks like that was the average number of crouches used in a teabag, unless they said something opposing that

I never understood, why they would choose questions, they can´t answer. It would be different, if the questions came from the chat during a live stream. But those questions are chosen and were cleared before the stream even starts.
The same reason football players kneel out 3 downs when there's less than 1:30 to play... Because it let's them run time off the clock without risking doing something stupid.
Welp, NM, apparently they changed the way that works now. I guess I should read a whole thread before replying.
Maybe it'd be better to post a slide at the start that says - these questions got the upvotes, but can't be answered, so we'll be skipping them
-
I'm not exactly a defender of the realm here, but it is worth remembering that just because week 1 is the way it is doesn't mean the following weeks will be exactly the same. I feel like advent calendars typically get better the later you get in the month.
That being said, I also would not be surprised if it never gets up past 10k/day for the whole month, either.

I don't care who you are weather survivor or killer if you body block me on purpose to block pallet use you are getting a report, it's skewed enough towards the killer as it is without them resorting to underhand tactics like that.
What do you guys think?
Killers are allowed to bodyblock you from pallets. They are your opponent.

Maybe devs finally got tired of arbitrarily nerfing Pig every other patch or so and decided to pick on Trapper, instead.
Trapper was out of date 3 years ago, they've refused to do anything meaningful to catch his mechanics up to the state of the modern game, and now he's getting his own set of bugs or shadow nerfs just to make him even more miserable. Sad to see.

That's trapper and wraith's biggest problem... The game moved on without them. Billy managed to survive just because his power was strong enough from the start, and fit better with the mechanics introduced over time. Trapper was strong against infinites, but the game moved away from that, and mitigated the issue for all killers, losing him his niche.
Wraith got breathed upon, which helped make him feel less miserable in the modern game, but trapper's few and miniscule touches did nothing to catch him up to the rest of the world. He's the dbd embodiment of an old man yelling at clouds.
Pig was detuned into mediocrity very early on because no one wanted to put in the effort she required to be successful against her. Then, after pulling her teeth, they just keep randomly slapping her in the face every couple of patches for some reason. I suspect some dev really dislikes Shawnee Smith.
Doc is still hanging in there ok after his various touches, despite stealth not really being a huge element. Some of the more recent killers that encourage slightly more stealth and the use of anti stealth perks actually helps him in the battle for relevance.
But yes, many killers were released as bandaids to problems. Legion was actually a bandaid for pallet fields I believe, as opposed to healing. Further, so many killer perks were released as bandaids for basic mechanical failures in the game, but there's so many, killers would need like a dozen perk slots to offset them all. Thankfully, the only ones that truly matter are the ones that handle genspeed, as genspeed controls the entire game. Hell, they are still doing it, pretty sure Hoarder was added just because of the sheer number of keys that get found in match and wind up hosing a killer for literally no reason.
-
It'd be hilarious to see the heads exploding if, when all 5 gens are done, a big red button appears. If killer presses that button, then the last survivor to try to exit is instagibbed by the entity. Survivors would lose their proverbial feces.
-
I love nurses. I'm not a strong looper, so being able to work on being unpredictable in a chase and getting them harvesting wood and metal instead of me always feels great.
-
Apparently you don't remember what a horrific pos doc was at release.
I was in love with his design from day 1, but I didn't wind up buying until after the "doctor cube" because of how crappy he was.

especially since they released it without fixing any of the bugs first, wouldve been happy with a delay instead of bugs
Not even without fixing it... They doubled the amount. Like, how does legion get jacked up in this patch? Or chase music?
-
It seems like, in addition to having many days of meetings to brainstorm ways to plan to think about how to deal with the twins' glaring faults, someone forgot to actually make the prestige skins, and they only realized it the day before release and sprinkled a little ketchup on the model.

I had a bug where I was playing spirit and a gen gets finished however it still says 5 gens. Then later when another gen gets done it corrects itself and says 3 gens.
Also 2 games so far as spirit I've noticed slight collision with survivors for example my spirit when phasing will slightly "wobble" kind of hard to describe I mean I can go through them but I can tell I am in them because my character moves side to side very slightly.
I've been playing spirit all day and I've only noticed this happen once in two games may of happened more and I didn't notice.
Iirc, this bug actually existed before the twins. I may just be misremembering it from ptb and not before, though.

No, it's like scratched mirror... Like 8m range. It's possible maybe he had hangman's and folks were close to a hook on the other side of the map. Or possibly one of the Gen perks that changes their auras based on one's being worked on for whatever, so he knew Survivors would be nearby there.
-
Could be shop lubricant and light chassis? One blocks survivor auras when downed with saw, and the other let's him scratched mirror auras while revving. It's possible he was using third seal as well, but you'd have a blindness status affect, and he'd have to have hit you previously for you not to see auras
There's custom configs out there that make props not draw until you're right on top of them, letting people see across the map, but I imagine that wouldn't be available on ps4
-
The fact that it says "afterpiece antidote" makes me concerned clown is either about to also get slowed by his power or is going to build up to an overheat/cooldown mechanic.
-
Today I saw Victor fly up out of Charlotte's chest to Valhalla on Ormond... Nothing surprises me about this patch's glitches anymore.

I've played vs. Elodie and as her.
If she was any louder the soundwaves would destroy all pallets in a 500 yard radius every time she opened her mouth.
Except when game decides she just shouldn't make any noise for any reason.

The bad thing is is that without that disclaimer this reads like some posts other people have made and they meant it. You need to go further with it if you want it to be more obvious:
survivors should be faster than killers
all killers need a 60 second cooldown on their powers
Legion should be a 105% speed killer in Feral Frenzy
since killers get to have two add-ons, they should only get two perk slots
... ya know, goddammit, I can actually see some people agreeing with those fake suggestions. Anyone got any suggestions so crazy no one could agree with them?
Apparently legion is actually now a 100% movespeed killer in frenzy, at least after the first hit.

Coming soon: Turn-based Dead By Daylight. In your video it's currently the survivor's turn, that's why the killer can't move. Working as intended!
At least hits(at pallets/windows/randomly into trees that are behind you) and projectile aiming would finally make effing sense.

I wonder if anything is influenced by some of their investors from overseas or otherwise. I just don't think this was done by choice, I have a feeling they were strong armed into pushing DLC to meet some tight deadline for the sake of trying to meet some quarterly requirement.
That or maybe they are just all getting tired of working on the same game for so long? I mean we know the engine is beyond buggy and probably frustrating, maybe it's just starting to run it's toll? Add a pandemic pandemic going on and that they operate in western canada where that is at an all time high (For Canada anyways). I am sure that has been causing disorder at the studios; which is very understandable. The lack of communication and online presence less so, but the development being hindered more than usual would make total sense.
Anyways those are my thoughts on it, because I think the devs are aware and would not want to release something in this condition, so I really think they are just not being given the time they need to do things properly....
The devs specifically bought themselves out from under Starbreezre as publisher so that they would regain control of their production and their release deadlines. Starbreezre was given a lot of blame for buggy, unfinished content being rushed out the door.
Of course, a side benefit is that BHVR doesn't have to share the money with a publisher.
If they bought themselves out of Starbreeze so they wouldn't be rushed to release broken content ever again.... Well, it didn't work.
-
An old past time... Burning a shroud of separation and counting how many people DC before their second down.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
I imagine the ones behind the money probably give them some dumb tight deadlines to make the DLC and push it out, ready or not.
There is no other excuse for this honestly, because they can clearly tell that they KNOW it's not even close to ready for release, so they must be getting bullied into it by shareholders or something idk. No developer would ever intentionally do this of their own free will I am sure of that.
I thought the entire point of buying themselves from Starbreeze was so that BHVR would have total control over their own products and deadlines.
The party line for a long time was that bugs were rushed out the door because the big bad publisher was forcing them to do it.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen dlc work that way. Some games with mtx allow you to test stuff for a limited time before buying (planetside 2 and some mobile games come to mind).
I'd be all for it, because it really could help you decide whether its worth buying or not, but that's also the reason it'll 100% never happen here.
-
Just add it to the list of "things we might fix after we have your money"
-
Tbf, rewards can change after first week. Halloween had days of barely any BPs, and days of quite a few. This event is much longer, so it's not surprising if it starts off a bit lower.
-
I almost made the swf comment, but then I realized he maybe meant as props and not Survivors, which would work a lot better vs swf.
The biggest problem is, if a killer disguises themselves as a prop, that kind of necessitates sitting in one spot, waiting to ambush a survivor.... And that is essentially an auto lose for any killer. Killer time crunch is a sword hanging over their head, trapper already has issues stemming from this and he just needs to set up. Imagine if he had to also stand there and wait to remotely trigger the trap when survivor was walking over it. He'd become impossible to play.
-
I know which one I'm laying bets on.

Oh, yeah... When the Oni released we had this thing when killers can be stuck in generators after kicking it... But I don't remember that I had this bug in PTB 3.4.0...
Anyway, it's sad that we're still having not fully working potentional of PTB as it should be
If the problem in the foundation of the game (I'm pretty sure that the problem that we get so many bugs stable per patch), they need to start to work with new engine for the DBD (I really think that the DBD team will announce about it in the 5th anniversary)
" survivors unable to see anything after they've been hooked in the basement " - I remember that we had it in some period of the game... Can you say when (after the current update) we got this bug? I'm just currious
OH, lord, another engine update would be... Lovely. Let's all remember the bugs from THAT one... Killer fov reduced significantly while BHVR denies it to this day, even though it's easily demonstrated... Audio occlusion that was broken for months, allowing gens being repaired 3 feet away from you to be completely silent, and the entire year that scratch marks just appeared on a completely rng basis in the world, with little or no relation to the survivor who caused them. I'm sure there's some big ones I'm forgetting, but I try to block out that time from my mind.
-
The regular charm rewards for logging in are redeemed with codes that are on advent calendar page and possibly the in game news
(so I'm guessing there maybe isn't any streamer only charms and they just worded the way the advent calendar ones work strangely)
-
This would seem to suggest you probably have the worst ping of anyone in that game, so your actions are registering after everyone else's, causing theirs to take priority. I think?
-
Too bad he didn't tell us what the rewards for logging in tomorrow are.
-
It's a long S. As in Use. Monitor is being used as a verb here, which would mean abuse is also supposed to be a verb.
-
Plague has been real effed up since dedicated servers landed. I wouldn't expect her to get fixed any time soon. Just going to have to learn to play around it.
-
"Twins probably enter public alpha testing tomorrow" would have been a better title, I think.
-
Like I always say, this is two different games.
To "survivor mains" it's a party game to play with friends to screw around.
To "killer mains" it's a pvp game to try to compete and win.
As a lot of mmos can tell you, mixing care bears and hardcore pvpers together on one server rarely looks pretty.
My apologies to the small but dedicated group of survivor heavy players who actually play to win, and the group of killers who play to screw around and try to give folks a few fun jumpscares in the night, I realize the above is a generalization, which means it carries exceptions.

@Justalittlepeeck said:
Nurse right now is literal definition of "fighting bugs more than survivors". I used to enjoy playing her, but rn she's awful.
I've always assumed they largely ignored the nurse bugs after her rework because they really just want to encourage everyone to not play her as much as possible.
They got rid of quite a few players by changing her handling from an mx5 to an m3 halftrack.
Quite a few would happily put up with that for nurse if every other button press on her didn't lead directly to a bug.
Now you have just a few diehard holy warriors who still trot her out periodically, mixed with a handful of new players who haven't fully grasped the situation, and a handful of console masochists dedicated to making it work.
As long as they can ignore those bugs, they guarantee the nurse population stays low, and while Survivors will still hit one occasionally (with a 50/50 chance that it's a player who can scream with nurse), it means they dont have to deal with pages and pages of nurse threads and reports about killers "cheating" by using nurse in general. Win/win in BHVR's eyes.
-
Every killer can be worked around and every killer can be beaten. Every killer has perks that mitigate their power. A handful of killers require more thought than "hold w til a see a wall, a window, and a pallet"
-
It'll be worth it on Freddy just for the long arms memes and to see the forum posts from that one guy who don't follow the news posting it as proof that Freddy's lunge is longer than everyone else's.

I feel like a dev actually covered this a long time ago, can't remember if it was a post or maybe a weekly dev stream.
