Im pretty new to the game, (only have about 30ish hours) but it is kind of insane the matches I am being set up with. I main huntress who is already a hard killer as is but I keep getting put against reds and purples and I just hit 16. This is insane as I am able to get two hooks max as they usually rush gens and flashlight spam me anytime I attempt to throw. It is kind of hard for me to get better at the game when this is all I get. Is this just how matchmaking is like once you get out of 20?

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LCZWDMW0TB2Q/dbd-rank.png

Matchmaking has always been horrendous. Not sure if mmr is really going to make it better.

I would recommend putting in lots of hours with m1 killers to get really good at chasing basics and mindgaming before settling in to main someone like huntress. Being forced to progress chases "naturally" will improve your game in every direction. I can't really say 100% that mining huntress will hold you back by virtue of having projectiles to cover for poor chase production, but it's a risk.

Oh, maybe they should ask Fornite, CS GO, Overwatch (game already dead due to taking so long to fix issues, like DBD), Halo, Warzone ... just about any game.

It's really ridiculous, we've been dealing with this problem for a year now and they can't fix it?

Pretty sure all those other games use an entirely different type of hit detection to start with, one that's designed to be used with guns and projectiles.

  • Not super into adding comic book villains, but the seeing your breath in the tr part would be an awesome effect for a killer.

  • I think basements should be customizable to the killer, for sure. I disagree with them reflecting the map though. The basement has always felt like something that exists outside the trial in a way, it's a constant in a world that is changed to suit the entity every round. I'd rather the basement, if not customizable, maybe reflect the killer instead. I'd hate for it to completely lose its feeling of solidarity in an otherwise manufactured illusion, though.

  • Until the ptb ends, sure. Serious doubts that this effect makes it to live.

It is unintended yes, but this is unnaturally funny

But this seemingly does hurt Demo alot, as this causes demo to miss and lose ALOT of distance between a survivor

Demo, yeah... But it also works on pig :)

  • The teleport thing makes it sound like you had a packet loss issue to server. I'd still post it in bug reports, but offhand, I'd guess it was a connection issue.

  • I just watched a claudette try to use a flashlight to save a survivor getting picked up and fail.... While the killer was standing under a pallet and had no idea the saving survivor was even there.

That's mainly what I noticed about flashlights. There was a time where I obsessively shoved my face into the nearest vertical surface for every pickup... but 95% of the flashes I see in games now can't even manage a pallet blind, let alone a save. They'll stand still in the middle of a hallway with a t3 Myers coming at them and attempt to blind while not even so muc as backing up.

  • Locker immunity is an issue and not being able to cancel power is also an issue.

So... you posted this at 12:46 PM, some 3 hours or so after they launched the PTB and revealed the killer?

    <3

It's not Wendigo, by the way. It's Wendi-baby.

I think I saw that reply this morning around 9 or 10 am est, so I think he got it in before ptb :p

Oh you mean the iconic 'stumble over a pebble'. Yeah, it could work like some sort of stamina. But not necessary. The problem aren't chases, it's gen speeds. So adding some secondary Objective or an Early Game slowdown mechanic would make the game pretty balanced.

I think the game is pretty balanced with a few exceptions. It's the bugs, some abusable Perkd/Items and Mechanics which make it frustrating at some point.

This was done in f13. It worked fine there because a) a stamina mechanic, and b) Survivors were faster than the killer. This, you may notice, is the opposite of how dbd works.

  • If that's the case, it sounds like we may be borrowing from idv again

Welp, no, sounds like an entirely different mechanic than white guard/ black guard.

That sounds a little like having a l4d jockey as a pet, lol

  • No, no one is sure it's a wendigo. It's an educated guess. If it is original, the who knows? Dbd fans have a horrible track record at speculating OG killers.

Rake seems a little iffy because BHVR doesn't seem super into messing with creepypasta. It's not really "original", and the rights are not always completely open (?)... Question mark there because I'm not 100% familiar with it, just have heard a few things secondhand and haven't confirmed personally.

Sure, give them crows for not participating. I can get with that.

On the flip side, lets give Killers a stacking movement speed reduction when spending periods of time at the hook. Because as annoying as survivors not participating in Gen is, Killers cherry-picking kills by camping a hook is equally annoying and not fun gameplay for anyone.

As long as you can trust BHVR to implement it without allowing Survivors being able to abuse it.

Op's suggestion, on its face, is controllable by the afflicted party to avoid the punishment.

Your suggestion, on its face, allows the opponent to force the punishment onto the afflicted party.

Which is often the problem with any anti camping mechanism. A punishment for actively avoiding your objective makes sense, a punishment for actively degrading the game atmosphere also makes sense. A punishment leveled at you because all the rest of your objectives decided to go hang around the punishment area just to make you eat it, doesn't make as much sense.

I'd be 100% behind some sort of anti camping mechanism, as long as it is somehow avoidable if the game state dictates that it's the right thing to do at the time. Sadly, I don't think BHVR would be capable of making a workable system that punishes camping conditionally.

I've been gaming since I can remember, I'm 22 now. It's always been a thing when it shouldn't be, I remember in school when the boys would talk about gaming and lil 5 year old me being a girl was excited to make friends, they laughed and told me I probably played Barbie games. Even in single player games like Detroit become human, wolf among us, TWD have negativity in their communities which doesn't even make sense for a game based on its story, but there it is; judged on the choices you make in game. There's a cycle of toxicity in gaming and it's sad, maybe it'll break but I doubt it, for now I hope you have a good day and keep your head up.

I'm a dinosaur. I was here for the dawn of online pvp. While there's always been trolls, and at the risk of coming across as boomer, this is definitely a more modern thing. The old pvp crowd in the days of shadowbane, Ultima online, etc... They would do a lot of trash talking on the forums, they would go online and try their damndest to burn each other's cities to the ground, and then they'd go back on the forums to gloat a bit about it. 9 times out of 10, they'd also be in their opponents' TeamSpeak or private forums congratulating them on a hard fought battle, talking about what caught them by surprise, and how much fun they had, at the same time they were writing trash talking forum posts.

The crap we have today is a mix of bitter care bears upset at getting beat in a pvp game that 100% advertises itself as pvp, and petty, small-minded folks who cannot get off unless they are literally making someone miserable. The stuff you see thrown around in multi-player games today would've had you kicked out of your own gaming group in the early days, even the ones who nolifed pvp to the point of utterly eliminating all competition on their servers. Personal attacks were largely no-go, unless someone was just a flagrant ahole in public constantly.

Gaming has changed a lot over the last few decades, a lot of it for the better. Gamers have also changed a lot in the last few decades, and a lot of it for the worse.

that not far away at all on the wiki it say the hag heavily based on the Wendigo not loosely influenced by wendigo myths and with demo and the hag in the game what would make Wendigo different from both of them?

what it say on the wiki

The Hag seems to be heavily based on the Wendigo, an Algonquian myth that says those who commit cannibalism will become possessed by spirits, deformed and eventually turn insane. This is suggested by The Hag's appearance, Memento Mori, backstory, and a few Hag-related Unlockables in the game which talk about cannibalism.

The wiki is a wiki, it's not a source.

The hag very heavily leans towards magic and ritual as explanation for her change, and her lore indicates that her cannibalistic ways were primarily done AFTER her slaughter of the slavers. While there is some intimation of her being fed human flesh while being help captive, all the emphasis regarding her dark turn is based on using the ritual magic of the elders.

The wiki can say whatever it wants, it is not authoritative. Hag's link to wendigo folklore is tangential. The only real link between the two is cannibalism, which wouldake the hag as much based off of Dahmer as she is the wendigo, if that's the metric we're using.

Lastly, demogorgon is completely unrelated to ANY of them.

  • @NekoGamerX said:

when comes to Until Dawn I feel people want the one of the survivors then the killer tho who want a wendigo forget we have the hag don't see her as a wendigo.

when it come to the survivors all based on real actor likeness like sam played by Hayden Panettiere I'm sure she own her likeness so they have to get the right from sony and who ever actor survivor based on that a lot of rid tape.

Hag is only very loosely influenced by wendigo myths.

The hag is in an area that is heavily implied to be tropical or near tropical swamp, and the cannibalism is a secondary element post killing.

The wendigo is pretty exclusively associated with bitter cold, and cannibalism is the catalyst for the evil spirit to enter, after which the killing begins.

Hag is definitely far enough away from a wendigo to leave room for one.

  • It IS worth noting that the sound effects in the teaser sound very similar to until dawn's wendigo... There's some (but less) similarity to some of l4d2's witch noises. Someone tried to liken it to 2016's Blair witch, but the sound effects aren't at all close.

None of that means much though. Sounds are sounds.

Dbd fans are historically really bad at original killer speculation.

Either way, it'll be fun to see what's coming.

Do you often get death threats in real life? I don’t and I wouldn’t tolerate it there either.

People in real life get knocked out for insulting the wrong person. Threatening to ######### someone to their face can get you assaulted or visited by the police. That’s why these losers feel the need to hurl insults in video games, they don’t have the backbone to say anything irl where they might have to deal with repercussions for what they say.

Precisely this. In the real world, there's consequences for acting like a little #########. In the op's example, that would get you arrested as "communicating threats" in a heartbeat, assuming it didn't get you kicked into the hospital first.

Sadly, the nature of the internet prevents most real world consequences from acting like a sociopath to be leveled on the instigator. So having companies actually apply some consequences to it because the players cannot is perfectly healthy. It's how you get things like "society" and "community". If everyone acted in person the way lots of these people do online, we'd be living in a full on mad max universe.

  • @MadLordJack said:

I think back to the Chains of Hate teaser, when everyone got it so wrong it was uncanny that the killer was an old West psycho lawman.

The clown speculation was just as far off, as well.

  • That bug also exists, yes. There's a couple different species of rat running around this ship that could explain the phenomenon.

  • There is a widespread and easy to use engine.ini hack that is easily accessible even to the dopiest of mouth breathers (not even joking, 90% of the folks who are consuming hacks on the boards cannot form sentences that bear any resemblance to language... The guys who MAKE the hacks are the only ones with functioning braincells).

This essentially makes most props disappear for the player unless they are standing right next to them, ie they can see you from across the map like you were standing in a desert plain.

These types of modifications got temporarily busted up when devs forced the ini files to be baked into the pak files (lots of folks used them to increase performance, as gfx options in Dbd are notoriously sparse... Others used em to remove fog or cause the red stain to be visible from space). As is always the case, hackers just moved on to injecting the modified ini into the pak file and we are back to square one there.

It's always an arms race, and every time someone makes better armor for the tank, someone comes up with a better bazooka for the infantry.

For now, though, you can expect some shenanigans with being located from half the map away unless you use specific props to hide on one side, or expect people to be able to see your stain from one end of the school bus to the other like a lighthouse beacon on the other.

  • Funny, I'm on PC and like 80% of my Survivors are on console.

Also, grabs have been completely unreliable for so long. Much like the scratch mark bugs at various times and audio bugs that appear and reappear... You just get used to not even bothering with em.

  • Yes, those hacks exist, but only as private/paid hacks... So they really are uncommon. You see em more around free weekends as well, since people can easily roll accts to get banned.

4 in a week is way too common for it to really be a cheat. It just isn't that common.

It MAY be some new exploit.

It also MAY be related to the recent display bugs that have been around (where at the end of match, it looks like killer wasn't using any perks). Could be agitation is showing when it's actually bbq&chili.

So take your pick, display bug, agitation related exploit, but probably not an actual esp hack. Oh, one last possible is maybe an engine hack to remove assets from vision unless close to them.

  • Every single time I've seen buzzing freezes on a game, it's been caused by a hardware problem, not a software one.

  • You sure you're not imagining this? Considering the fov complaints going all the way back to the engine update a few years ago when camera positions got altered, I can't fathom BHVR increasing fov and not plastering it everywhere for some free killer headpats of good will.

  • @Taingaran said:

If I can't hook a certain survivor and he sometimes teleports, is that also a lagswitch?

No, that's a different hack that manipulates the net code and allows Survivors to prevent hooking and/or teleport back to the last interactable they touched before being chased.

It does work on a similar principle as a lagswitch, though.

  • Couldn't care less about prestige. I'm spending enough time getting everyone all their perks, I'm sure as hell not going to toss it out the window for skins.

I hated the grinding in the early 2000s mmos, and dbd isn't far behind that despite having about 1/50th the game play content/variety of most of those.

  • Just so you know, RE: Your "wall hacking" killers being common, there's been a bug out for a while now where the end game screen doesn't actually display the killer's perks. So those wall hackers with no perks are likely 99% using aura reading perks and your endgame screen got bugged.

  • Remember that time when Survivors could crash your match by spamming flashlight clicks? I remember.

Remember how bugs in Dbd like to resurface from time to time?

Reason enough to have cooldown on flashlight activations, imo.

  • @pwncxkes said:

I feel like Freddy will get nerfed next, even though he is fine. But with BHVR you know never know, I just have that gut feeling.

Either clown, pig, Myers will get buff. They just struggle sometimes at the high level of play.

Pig will continue to get unasked for and unnecessary background nerfs for this game's entire lifespan.

  • When you have a hardcore camper, you maximize your points by pounding out gens and moving on to a new round. The poor guy on the hook gets to move on a couple minutes sooner.

You can go ahead and keep feeding Campers points and kills, but don't expect to face FEWER Campers doing it.

It's a lot more fair to make sure that killer doesn't get a 4k and 30k points for camping than it is to leave one dude to die on a hook.

  • @rickyray101 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1671483#Comment_1671483

The only thing that can counter that a little bit is distortion. Honestly that perk needs a buff since killers run BBQ with hex undying which makes hex ruin the pain in the ass before they reworked it all over again! Hex Undying needs a nerf!

BBQ is easily countered using basic game mechanics and paying a small bit of attention, no perks required.

  • If the killer got 25-30k points while camping and tunneling, that means bad Survivors are feeding a killer who is using generally suboptimal strats... except, in this case, he's using optimal ones because his Survivors keep rewarding it.

  • Just to point out, Swf also CAN far more effectively coordinate spreading out hooks and saves far better than solos can, and coordinate low percentage rescues much faster as well. If they are so inclined, they can maximize their emblems far better than 98% of solo queue

  • I don't think a soul harvesting cosmic horror is super concerned about pedestrian usability, Ada, or safety issues. It puts up 2 because 2 are expected. You get hope when the doors power, and lose it when you see they're right next to each other, and thus the entity feeds.

Why hooks and not vaudevillean train tracks or convey belts to lasers or wood chippers?

Why would anyone repair a v8 engine by sticking their arms into its guts while it's running?

  • I think you're confused. It's worked this way for at least years. You get hooked, you have a timer, you get unhooked or they wait too long, you lose a hook state. Then you go on the hook again, and you're in struggle. You get unhooked, or they wait too long, you lose a hook state and are on death hook. The next time you touch the hook, you die (considering staying on the hook past the hook state as basically being hooked again). That's 3 hooks to out.

You may need to circle the runway a few more times, man.

  • I believe you are conflating skill and strategy. Tunneling does not require any skill outside of normal chasing skills. It IS, however, a strategy that is sometimes sppropriate, sometimes neccesary, and sometimes detrimental. Just like camping (although, I suppose camping has a few unique "skills" associated with it to use it to full effect, unlike tunneling).

  • Killers do this because it'll take 20 minutes to farm up anything resembling decent bps with 2 dcs. It's far more efficient for everyone involved to just finish the busted trial asap and move on.

Edited to mention, 20 minutes of should crushing boredom, no less.

  • Pretty sure they would just copy/paste the same killer that already exists in IDV for this.

  • @Khakuate said:

How do you exactly know if they have unbreakable? Oh yeah, you can't. (Unless you're hacking)

If the unhooked DS user would hook rush, you could easily slug 2 survivors, even if they pick themselves up they're not a gen!! and while they're picking themselves up, you could be pressuring the gens or chasing someone else, and you're applying pressure to 3 survivors.

There is a thing called "paying attention" People with unbreakable recover significantly faster, and can recover to 99%, which means they can be picked up by another survivor in a split second. Killers using strange things called eyeballs can recognize those signs. But hey, at least you made a post without using the word "bias"

  • Chapter 17 is like 98% Candyman. I'd start speculating about chapter 18, instead.

  • Shockingly, a lot of people who gravitate towards playing the "killer" do so because they enjoy killing other players. Also shockingly, many people who play pvp games do so because they want to pit themselves against other players and win.

Just like an always-on pvp mmo, you get folks who join who just want to farm some corn, make a few robes, and occasionally go kick a few rats... And just like a pvp mmo, you find people who complain that someone stuck a knife in them while they were just "minding their own business" hauling thousands of gold worth of sellables to town.

Dbd encourages killer side to have to play hard and treat it like a pvp game. It also encourages survivor side to treat it more like a party game and not worry as much about the actual win. This weird break between the design philosophy for the two sides causes a lot of issues.

  • This is a person that solo queue teammates has finally cracked, folks.

  • Yeah, letting reports dictate anything would be a terrible idea. Ask Xbox players.

  • Yes, and Nurse was just going to be an addon pass, and a light breath on her actual power.

It's not unreasonable for killers to expect this "barely noticeable" change to be slightly more noticeable than BHVR claims at the moment.

So I'm new to playing the game but I've been watching videos for years. I have less than 10 games under my belt, lastnight I was playing as the new killer and had just unlocked noed, I had fun even though I was getting juked like crazy lol. by the end I got two kills and the other two got away, they instantly rushed the doors open and didnt 99% them. One guy said good job but people are gonna report you and be mad at you for being toxic using Noed.. I didnt camp at all and I dont think I was being toxic in any way, so just curious if having noed is a looked at badly or was this dude just salty he got killed by a new player?

P.S. I've been loving how awesome this community has been since I started playing.

I think you misinterpreted that guy. He wasn't salty, he was just letting you know "this wonderful awesome community" that you've experienced so far is going to look and sound a whole lot different if you run noed very often. He was trying to warn you that you will see all sorts of salt for using it.
