So basically even basic hits will now work the way grabs and stalking do? Sure, yeah, the game is going to be feeling a lot better when everything the killer does except walking is dictated by rng.
-
@SirCracken said:
Now that I think about it, I don't even know for certain how hit detection is calculated.
Is there a video explaining it anywhere?
Dunno about a video, but when you attack, it projects an invisible cone in front of you. If a survivor's hit box is within that cone, they get hit (unless the game decides a tree 3 feet to your left was in the cone also, in which case, you hit the pallet behind you).
-
Honestly, the Legacy stuff is asinine. So you can't check to see if certain players actually got to it in time, SO WHAT. For God's sake, just let people claim what they lost based on the honor system and check to make sure they were playing the game during the legacy time frame. Sure, and handful of people who were around back then might wind up with some legacy they didn't earn. I'd say the good vibes created from folks who lost all their legacy will greatly outweigh a few unscrupulous cheats. Hell, if you have to, say, "hey, since we can't verify which legacies you earned, but we can verify you played at the time, we'll let you pick one killer and one survivor legacy to have". It may not be perfect, but it's a damn sight better than "oh, we failed to track the stats for people earning legacy, AND we left a progress destroying bug in the game for a year or more while it razed your save profiles, so we're just gonna say ######### it and not let you have anything instead... even though it was our multiple fuckups that caused it".

as I said hacking in a paid game is dumb because ultimately you will get banned and have to buy the game again, meaning new steam account, and so on,its dumb
You do see a lot more of it during free weekends.
Part of the problem now is that EAC managed to shut down the public bypass pretty hard, and it stayed gone for a while now... Which means the folks who can't really handle playing without cheating are caving in and using paid cheats, which are much more difficult for EAC to shut down.
Having public cheats is, in some ways, beneficial - most of the people using those have NO idea what they're doing and how to protect themselves, so they get banned quick and easy.

You either had immersed players (or stealth trolls), or you had a massive bug. Cheating in Dbd is pretty rare, running into 3 in a single match is basically unheard of. Further, hackers wouldn't just ghost you like that, they live for attention. The chances of this being hacking related are slim.

I thought we were talking about the Executioner being stunned by a pallet in the middle of using their ranged attack.
They are referring to his post power use recovery time.

Uhm. Nightmare on Elm Street was followed by Saw, and Ghostface was followed by Stranger Things.
Licensed chapters are more based on availability of a license (as in, the timing of when they get offered the license) than any actually release rule.

Survivors cannot accept anything less than a 4e unless it becomes literally impossible (I. E. One of them is fully sacrificed). They'll happily throw their lives away to try to rescue that one guy, trade a 3e for a 4k, and then try to point to kill stats as a viable metric for the state of game balance.
-
Unless something has changed greatly since I last saw, mlga does NOT tell you what killer the player is using. It just tells you the killer's steam name.
There ARE other programs that will read the log files and tell you what killer the player has selected. As it does not actually interact with any game files, it'd be impossible to actually blacklist it. Further, the process is so simple that anyone can slap together their own version with minimal effort and, in fact, could simply look at the log file without any other aids. That's up to BHVR to fix, they failed to provide any obfuscation that would've prevented it.
On the final point, it's far better to allow players who already know they dislike how a particular player plays or knows that they're completely outclassed by a player to just leave the lobby and find another game, rather than letting them enter the game only to DC or kill themselves on a hook in the first 30 seconds.
There IS good reason to hide WHAT the killer is, there's not much of one to hide WHO they are.
Just in case it comes up, the only time I play survivor is when I have a daily to complete. None of my Survivors are above level 10. I am an unashamed killer main, and I've got no problem letting people choose who they want to play with or against. If they don't want to deal with someone they know is going to slug everyone and wait around for bleed out, go ahead. If they decide they want to play the game only facing opponents who pose no challenge to em, fine. I'd rather kill players who actually want to complete and won't nope out in the first minute, anyway.

It was before the last Gen popped. And is this 'policy' or your personal thoughts?
Yeah, that's policy. It's only hostage taking if the actions prevent the game from ending.
Your case is likely a bit of a Grey area, as he could be in trouble for staying there for an excessively long time, but that could be mitigated by what the other two Survivors were doing (as in, were they actively avoiding ending the game themselves as well).
In general, as long as progress gets made towards death or escape, there can be no hostage taking. Making a survivor spend the full bleed out timer as a slug isn't hostage taking, nor would blocking a room to force an egc kill.
If you two were the only 2 Survivors left and egc isn't active, then he's guilty of taking the game hostage (with a bit of leeway in terms of time, he's not instantly in trouble, he'd have to be there for a few minutes).
He may also be violating the "not actually playing the game" rule.
Edit: Doesn't appear to be any not playing rule, but I seem to recall devs mentioning it as a violation at some point.

Most creepypastas are not well written.
Go back to some of the few that you've mentioned, Jeff especially, and read their stories. Most of it is over dramatic, edgy garage that got popular through pure exposure, rather than good writing.
In essence, they are not good horror icons. And I think them being added to dbd would be incredible forced.
That, if I remember correctly, was the first time I've ever seen someone try to put a jumpscare into writing. It does not work well.
-
You mean the poorly written urban legend fanfiction that makes Harry Potter porn fanfiction look like literary masterpieces?
No thanks.
-
It's been years since you could leave chat up on any sort of dev stream, not just dbd. Just pretend it's post game chat and x it out, it has about the same level of salt and rationality.
-
"so i don't have to worry the people complaing on the endgame chat?"
That may be the most optimistic thing I've ever read. No, you'll have to worry about endgame chat even if you do everything "right". You'll REALLY need to worry about it if you actually play like you're trying to win, and then double that for using a 3gen to do so, as well.
-
Always the same refrain - "swf and comms dont give an advantage", but for some reason, every killer in the game will dodge if they get an swf indicator. "Comms don't give an advantage" but we'll come up with a half dozen lame and easily mitigated reasons to not give them to everyone so that the game can't be balanced around that thing that "doesn't really give an advantage"
Dudes are so transparent.

I could be wrong, but, um, doesn't universal own most there rights?
Only their specific interpretations are. Otherwise, no.
Guy above me explained way better. Bram Stokers Dracula is public domain, as is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Wolfmen are folklore. Mummies are folklore + reality. Mermen as well. So none of those are peotectable.
However, Dracula as say, the Castlevania version or the Mummy from the newer movie ARE protected, in terms of their visual presentation. So they couldn't add one in Dbd that looked too much like those without trouble. CV may be a bad example, as I'm not super familiar, and if he's just a dude in a cape, then there's not enough to protect. Maybe say Alucard from Hellsing, he has a unique look.

Is it my rank cause I'm at rank 20 at the moment :(
Or did survivors leave?
Why are killer lobbys so long?
Happened to me after a long break as well. It's just that when you're in r20-16, the mm does everything it can to match you within that same range. It takes it a while to start reaching out into the wider ranks. As soon as you cross into 15 again, it'll speed up.

Well the main elements with a character inclusion are suitability, demand and availability. Then of course the understanding that they'll generate revenue.
I agree lore is not essential. People are buying the popular killer, not really for their backstory as detailed in the character profile.
Absolutely. Availability is pretty much king. Lore is just what it is, fun bits of flavor. If they need to, they'll find a way to wiggle around it. Your earlier statement is also good - I've also always thought it was neat that the entity snatches them just prior to death.
Anyway, guys, a few short hours, and we will know who the killer is!

Yeah, nothing against the Hellraiser franchise or the people who want it but I've personally never cared for the franchise. Plus, I've also always seen Pinhead(let's be real, if it is Hellraiser, then Pinhead is the killer) as more of a viscous tormentor rather than a active seeking killer.
This is true, but dbd has built in lore. Similar to arguments of Predator being a hunter of the worthy, and xenomorph only being killing machines, existing entity lore explicitly states that the entity will punish a killer until it complies with its wishes.
Funny enough, Pinhead may be the only one immune to normal methods, since he gets off on torture. Then again, he delights in suffering, which a standard trial should cause plenty of. Even then, the entity could possibly deprive him of any sensations for however long it took for force his cooperation, etc, etc.
And in the end, let's face it... They don't care THAT much about making sure everything retains a logical continuity.
I should also say, NONE of the killer's are here to kill. They exist to torture the Survivors. Their primary goal is to allow hope to build and then snuff it out slowly before sacrificing the survivor to the entity. That's why moris are meant to be rare, it's supposed to be a boon from the entity to allow a killer to actually kill.

I can see that. I still think it should fall into griefing. This isn't slugging the next to last survivor to draw out the last one. This killer simply slugged both and left us to bleed out. He made absolutely no attempt to even pick either of us up, much less to hang us. So, if BHVR sees no issue in a killer intentionally wasting my time I will simply choose to waste it on a 5 minute ban as opposed to bleeding out in that situation. It may never happen to me again. This is the first time in 2 years I have seen a killer slug every remaining survivor and let them bleed out, but if it does I know what I will do.
It's only griefing if that same killer does it to you every match over multiple matches. Then, you've got a case, to some extent
-
Any survivor can get the tips as long as one of the Survivors is new enough to trigger them.
-
Skill checks are the least skillful thing in this game. I'd support skill checks on gates and totems, but I'd rather skill checks be made into something that actually requires more than half a neuron of attention first.

Its unlikely for the remake Jason to come in the game. The F13 Game devs had tried to get that Jason in their game but was unable to, as those Owners/right holders to that Jason didn't want him in a video game or something like that.
That what's the F13 devs had said and that's a entire game about the F13 franchise so if they couldn't get him I doubt DBD could, unless of course their opinion of that has changed since then.

Opinions can change. It looks like the remake is the basis for that board game. Of course, a board game is not a video game, either. There's also a chance that Gun just straight lied about it, and that the remake guys just didn't want to do business with THEM specifically. Only time will tell where things will go. Pinhead's case is getting stronger, it would seem.

And even if it's remake 2009 Jason...we can still get that version of bag head as an alt.
We'll have to keep out fingers and toes crossed for his one.
That's true, and it fits with the killer having 2 outfit options, according to the leak sites.

This is why killers make jokes about how remaining on the same map as a hooked survivor is camping.
The term is so diluted at this point, they had to come up with a dozen extra adjectives to add to it in order to clarify.

let face more facts Myers scarier and jason.
I was just explaining why Jason was popular in horror, not arguing the level of fear or what his power would be.
Regardless of your feelings about him, there is no killer more iconic than Jason. There was a study once about trademarks and recognition, and you can take a hockey mask to any country in world and show it around, and people will recognize it as Jason. Myers and Freddy wouldn't be far behind, but they still don't have that level of recognition out in the public conscious.
Getting him into the game WOULD be a major coup for behavior, whether you like him or hate him, just like Myers, LF, and Freddy were.

I'd be happy with any major or semipro horror players - Jason, Candyman, Pinhead, Jeb Morningside, Pumpkinhead, hell, even Chucky (oops, forgot Pennywise) . The Thing works for me, too. I mean we still haven't had any more exclusives on PC/Console. I don't count the Rift as those will be coming to the store a year later.
I guess to expand my point - I believe they meant no more things that were exclusively available OUTSIDE the game itself. Rifts are available to everyone, even though parts require payment. I think their goal was to stop doing things that were not "easily" available to all, such as a cosmetic that can only be obtained at a con that 1% of the playerbase could attend.

what the deal having jason in? liek i say i'm the only one who thinks he the most over rated 80s killer.
Myers set the tone for 80s slasher, the teenagers terrorized by the killer, and the "pure" final girl surviving, but Jason cemented the cinematography, the formula, and the excess. The killer using a variety of weapons and environments for unique kills. And the monster-as-legend trope. He was also far more consistently enduring than Mikey. And let's face it, a hockey mask is way more badass than Bill shatner's pasty face.

If we even get the remake Jason, I'll be happy.
I mean we have 2010 Freddy and I hardly notice it isn't the Freddy I know and love.
I definitely regret not having Englund's Freddy, but personality was always half of Freddy's appeal. Jason doesn't really have a personality aside from the famous Hodder head tilt. So I agree, I don't think remake J would make a huge difference here vs OG. I'd always rather see the originals, but I think it's less impactful here. On the side, we also have an entire game full of OG Jason, which never could use the remake one, so it kinda works in a cosmic balance sense.

Apparently the Camp Crystal Lake name isn't copyrighted either. And Jason Voorhees name isn't as someone mentioned already. So as long as they don't make references to the mother Pamela or the drowned kid, i think they have a lot to work with. But they would need approval from horror inc (Cunningham) to make a Jason with mask chapter i believe.
It doesn't necessarily look that way with the way the board game is credited. Maybe Cunningham gave WB and New Line an open enough license that they didn't need anything extra from him to produce games based on the remake, thus not having horror Inc credited in the copyright boilerplate. Licenses can often be not very straightforward, so who knows?
-
@LordGlint said:
Considering the devs tendency of renaming all their characters with some sort of codename, I dont think theyd have a problem. Jason would just end up getting a similar name to Freddy's "The Nightmare". Would kinda suck if we cant get the iconic camp though.
The camp, in general, is fair game. As in, a map called Camp Crystal Lake. The first version with Higgins Haven is probably a no go. The later ones may or may not be possible. If the theory is correct, then the remake camp would be open. In any case, we wouldn't get the same map fidelity as f13 the game had.

It would give for a lot of possibilities though. Obviously, it would be an indoor map, but a space ship one. So you could look out the windows and only see space all around you. No Earth, no Sun, no nothing. You're literally nowhere, and you're stuck with a killer onboard. That's horrifying. Lockers could be modified to wardrobes to fit the map. Survivors on the last hook could be yeeted out of the ship by the means of the hook. Just imagine repairing a gen, and looking out through the window and seeing a dead Dwight floating away.
Why does this generator glow in the dark? Why is my hair falling out?

Absolutely it's a possibility. If we can get Jason by cutting corners, I'm all for it.
But I'm not sure how BHVR feel about the prospect of space.
Also worth noting that the newly released board game only mentions F13 characters and license from New Line and Warner Bros, and makes no mention of horror Inc or Miller. So maybe the remake is the loophole right now. Also, doesn't dbd already have a bit of experience with WB?
-
Funny enough, the entire name is fair game. "Jason Voorhees" can't be copyrighted on its own. An encephalopathic boy named Jason can. So technically, big, undead, hockey mask Jason Voorhees is fine keeping the name as long as the figure out the window to use the iconography to begin with.
-
This one has been stated to be a classic franchise with an iconic killer, so that rules out a lot of horror games.
I'm sure it's been considered for future killers, but game killers are always going to come with a huge caveat: if it's a current franchise, it's going to be competing against itself to some degree. Now yes, say Until Dawn and Dbd are vastly different games with little crossover, but that doesn't mean the bean counters at Sony are going to see it that way.
-
Flashlights are fine these days. Limiting the spin click wouldn't hurt. The only thing I really want is an option for it to Grey screen out instead of the blind we have. While this one is far better than the retina searing white screen we used get, it's just plain ugly now.
As long as they can manage to refrain from reactivating any old flash bugs, they're in a decent spot.
-
If they win, they are massively skilled Uber Survivors. If they lose, it's never their fault. Thus, Amanda is op in this situation.
-
Pinhead 45%, Pennywise 45%, Candyman 9%, Jason 1%, Xeno 0%, Pyramid head 0%
-
Or, ya know, mobile was designed from the ground up to use servers, whereas the main game was designed for a p2p system that later had a server-client system grafted and shoehorned on. Further, the movement and control system is far less nuanced, meaning bots don't need nearly the same amount of "skill" in order to run around a killer vs pc.
I've never been a cheerleader for BHVR, but trying to argue a 4 year old pc game with spaghetti code should easily replicate anything a purpose built, streamlined mobile game can do is delusional.

I dont believe the script kiddies can get peoples information but they are able to do a lot of evil with the servers like ddos certain streamers etc which we have already seen.
Not sure how related this is, but I know there was a brief phase where folks would catch a streamers player Id on stream in the options screen and use that to send them from PC into the Switch queue or Xbox, etc.
