What? It's not an easy thing to fix
Actually they did fix it, then because they bend over backwards for killer mains they removed it because it was stopping killers from getting free hits and kills.

As most perks are. Franklins had a purpose as a standalone perk, even if it just countered items. Now it's a dead perk slot at worst and an inconsistent aura provider at best.
Again no. If you look at peoples item's in the lobby and they are all bringing medkits then that's a lot of time wasted going back for their medkits rather then on gens.

Yeah becouse it's beyond useless. The only thing going for it was to drain medkits and it cannot do that
No? Franklins was a very strong perk. Being able to essentially remove the survivors power by just hitting them with an m1 was very powerful.

Sorry, my bad. Old franklins gave people an incentive to come back for their item FAST. It created a side objective you usually didn't want to ignore. Current franklins is a light inconvenience at best and you can pick up your item whenever its efficient.
Again not really? If it was a medkit it was probably dead the second you got hit, maps were never worth risking anything for, toolboxes yet again you'll lose more time than save going for it, flashlights I guess but after so many nerfs I can't imagine the point in risking anything for it. I'll give you keys though, if you are playing soloq having an escape option is good.
Either way I don't think it was a particularly healthy perk since it heavily punished soloq and was almost totally ineffective against swf after the first hit.
-

I loved old franklins because people actually had an incentive to get their item back. Now it's only a support perk for some aura reading.
Huh? No new franklins actually gives people an incentive to go back for their item. Old was just it's gone and a waste of time to go for since it'll probably have at most like 20% left.

I genuinely understand where you're coming from, but I do disagree about their effects not being strong enough. The unfortunate truth is that even as far as support perks go, boons (when actually balanced, dark theory is in need of a buff and luckily likely to see one in the midchapter) are pretty much doomed to be unpopular. Its not necessarily a strength thing - I mean, circle of healing in its current state is actually a really solid effect, especially when combined with shadow step as a safe reset point - but they're both less self reliant and less consistent overall, especially if you don't have totem spots down (and who can blame anyone for that) or don't have a map with flint to run.
I mean, even some pretty crazy powerful perks see little play for these reasons, and boons are more upper mid tier solid effects. If game winning perks like Shoulder The Burden, or otherwise very strong perks like Duty of Care see very little play outside of the highest level, boons - which aren't these really extreme top tiers like shoulder or IMO deeply underrated support effects like Duty - don't stand a chance. And because they DO apply to the entire team for one perk slot, BHVR has to be really careful in how they're balanced, otherwise you get - like you mentioned - old Circle Of Healing, which was a good chunk of the survivor half of the worst overall meta to exist since the turn of this decade.Circle is the weakest boon except illumination because tbh illumination is a joke. Seriously the odds of it saving time are almost zero due to the fact you are spending a lot of time to set it up AND it requires two people to spend time running into the boon. Are there times where it's okay? Sure but let's not pretend it's not like bottom of C tier for perks.
Also Duty of care is an outdated concept for a perk since it does effectively nothing. Seriously nearly every killer now has some way to either ignore a person bodyblocking or just instantly catch back up to the person they are trying to tunnel out. Blight, Spirit, Jason, Billy, all catch up rapidly which is really annoying and that's not even going into the issue of insta down killers making it a null perk since you can't really take hits with it. It's a terribly designed perk since you can only get decent value out of it against killers like trapper and skullmerchant. AND that's assuming you take the hit in the tiny radius for it to activate. -

Yeah, but 5% regression on a generator and .25 charges a second regression is not nearly enough when killers need a perk that on hook regresses 20% instantly 4 times in a match, and maybe another perk to increase gen kick regression after every hook to a total 20% in order to consistently do alright in normal lobbies. It could be small, like increasing basekit to 7% regression and 0.35 c/s, but it should be changed. And I'm a survivor main
Yeah pain res is too strong of a perk and should be nerfed I know.
-
One of the best ways to change the meta would be to release perks that actually counter the meta. Like if say steadfast protected all generators in it's range from any non kick regression events instead of the nothing it does now that would not only not be too strong but it'd also make killers have to think before slapping on four regression perks.

The point of boons isn't to be crazy efficient on its own merits as a singular person, they're team support perks. When I say it works well with a large number of perks, I'm not referring to stacking as much gen speed as possible, I'm talking alongside the other boon roster, Lend a Hand, Flow State, other perks that synergize without being direct increases. If you have bless speed bonuses, or other boon perks, it becomes MUCH more time efficient. Its not going to be hard meta or anything, but its easily a decent perk even just considering the parts of it that are a boon version of Prove Thyself that still boosts solo repair.
At its absolute worst (numbers wise), assuming one instance of diminishing returns on every single person working the gen, the effect is still a teamwide Deja Vu that has the downside of setting time and being temporarily removable, but the upside of only taking up one perk slot to benefit multiple people and not needing any individual person on your team there to get the benefit. I would also like to point out that Deja Vu AND Prove Thyself both see play as reasonable picks.But none of those effects are actually strong enough to really warrant perk slots. I get what you are saying but this is why boons died out with circle getting killed. Without any actually good effects that will really help the team it's largely not worth running any boons even if it helps multiple people theoretically.
-
For real, I can't wait to see all the floods of people saying she's F tier while playing her like she's the same as any other killer.

Yeah maybe, although I think if we wanted to see less Pain Res, Pop, Corrupt, etc., killers would probably have to also have some kind of basekit regression buff and the perks would have to be nerfed
They already got that. Generators used to not have a basekit 5% regression when you kicked them.

It could honestly be fine, I just don't want another Franklin's + Weave situation from when Vecna 1.0 first came out. That was just super annoying, and especially with the new killer being so good at capitalizing off of aura reading the idea of having something like that is scary
Trust me I get it. That crap was so broken. But at the same time I do think killers should have some good builds and encourage something other than pain res. If it becomes broken then the perk can change but ultimately chests and their related perks are in dire need of a buff.
-
@Arcturus said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103958#Comment_4103958
yeah the issue is that 1. it affects you through walls and floors 2. the killer at the very least guaranteed sees you get on the chest and 3. the killer can close it again. if there are a large enough number of chests on the map, you might find yourself constantly getting aura read through walls or especially on 2 story maps through ceilings where you have no idea where the chest in question is, and even if you find it the killer could close it again. Not saying adding 1 or 2 chests would be a bad thing or make this overpowered, but once you start adding 3 or 4 it could be.
That said though I do think that there should be 1 or 2 more chests per match, and personally i think Ace in the Hole should become basekit (or maybe with just one addon, or weaker odds). I think that would make killer perks that effect chests actually worth using and actually incentivize survivors to open chests.
Sure but I don't really mind this? I don't think it'd be too strong and we should generally be encouraging more niche builds. If it gets to be too strong we can readjust the perk itself. Still I don't really mind killers having aura reading like that.

Yes, no flashlight, pallet saves or sabo possible - and they get Killer Instinct on survivors who are also eligible for Exile, after sending one there. And their power is increased.
Yeah which is also kinda lame, like I get it's part of their power but they are doing this with Jason too where just certain ways to play the game are totally or partially negated by basekit killer powers and it just reinforces the fact that genrushing is the only thing left for survivors.
-
@Linkdouken said:

Because it would serve more of a purpose to send them to exile instead of just hooking. Can they? Then that's even more of a reason
Except that's already a fairly good reason. It gets the killer back into the match instantly to keep applying pressure. I think people just straight up forgot how powerful remote hooking was during the anniversary event. Over the course of the match being able to save easily over a minute or even two of carrying someone to a hook is nothing to sneeze at. Sure there's the argument that you don't get access to pain res but ultimately you can just bring a different perk.

my knowledge may be outdated, its hard to keep up with dbd but do chests still interfere with killer powers? I remember the meta against Xenomorph was to put up chest coins to further weaken their power.
I want more chests for survivors I just don't want it impacting killers or even ruining loops for either side
That got patched awhile ago I believe so killer props take priority in the event of a conflict.
-
Yeah it's objectively just a worse adrenaline now. There's no point in it if it only activates when you finish a gen. Like if the percentage was higher so you regain something like forty or fifty per token when you pop a gen during the match I could see the vision but it's just a nothing perk as it is now.
-
I'm still waiting for the day they make 90% of survivor add-ons not garbage. Sadly they removed most of the good ones making it 95% hot garbage.
-
Tbh I'm more sad about the perks. There were interesting ideas but the devs just don't have the will to make anything interesting.
-
@Massquwatt said:
Apocalyptic Ingenuity is getting buffed? That's cool, I still kinda wish it's activation wasn't directly tied to chests though. I think having it on a 120 second cooldown or something while opening/rummaging chests cuts it's cooldown in half would be a way better idea. Those temporary pallets really aren't worth being tied to such a limited resource like chests considering that currently running the perk on the own can maybe net you…one pallet which is nuts.
It's turning from a F tier perk to a D tier. No one's going to use it because it's still hot garbage but it's something I guess.

And that's where I heavily disagree.
Try it, you'll find you really only need perks, and sometimes not even those.
Unless you're tunnelled, of course, in which case neither will really help you.
Try playing without killers power then, all you really need is perks and sometimes not even those. All you need to do is tunnel of course.

It's as viable as survivors not using any items.

No, I’m not.
I hate to say it, but if you think a killer that ONLY M1’s is going to do well, to the same level a survivor without an item can do well, you’re frankly delusional.
Anyway can you come up with an actual argument yet or is name calling and fallacies the only thing you have?

Imagine the chest builds

@GentlemanFridge said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103636#Comment_4103636
But thats also where the similarities end. This is still an asym, with asymmetrical components, and trying to make them seem symmetrical doesn't really make sense.
Like cogsturning said, a killer can't choose to not bring their power. A survivor can do plenty well without an item.
And a killer can do well without a power, all they technically need is the ability to m1 just like technically the survivors only need the ability to repair generators. Once again you are just arguing for special treatment.
-
@GentlemanFridge said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103629#Comment_4103629
That's because I wasn't arguing for special treatment. What I don't get is how you claim a killer using only M1 is similar to a survivor not using an item.
Neither are using the abilities they have. It's not complicated.
-
@GentlemanFridge said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103593#Comment_4103593
You're gonna need to elaborate on what the fallacy is.
Special pleading, survivor's items are largely equivalent to killer powers in terms of strength. Four survivors who know what they are doing with their builds is going to have more impact on how the match goes from their items than say skull merchant. None of your arguments thus far show any reason why killers deserve special treatment and thus your whole argument boils down to nothing more than a logical fallacy.
-
@GentlemanFridge said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103539#Comment_4103539
Items do not "drastically make things easier" to the same degree a killer power does. A killer power is the game itself. It's what determines how the opposing players interact. It determines what the threat actually is; what to look out for, what's not a threat.
An item just speeds up an action, and/or unlocks one.
Not to mention that items are depletable. Killer powers are not. And before you mention it, no that does not exclude Huntress/Trickster, they can reload indefinitely in a locker, without the need of a perk.
Dude, come up with a better argument than one that's literally just a logical fallacy.
-
It'd be cool but I'd want this as a special skin tbh. It'd require a lot of work for each individual cosmetic to do, not to mention liscensing.
-
@GentlemanFridge said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103425#Comment_4103425
You cannot seriously be equating that.
Yeah, I can be. Because four survivor items is extremely impactful on how the game goes just like the killers power is extremely impactful on how the game goes. Both survivors and killers don't technically need to use their 'power' to win but it makes things drastically easier. Either way I don't see why killers need special treatment. Either survivors should get to pick their items just like how killers get to pick theirs or it should all be random.

How pallet saves where nerfed? They were only buffed with pallet density update.
The devs at some point made it that killers have priority on everything including stuns. So if the killer swings when they are stunned their swing will take priority over being stunned.

??
It’s really not. How’s a killer expected to do anything without using their power?
M1, same way that a survivor does not need to use their items.
-
Another killer who does not understand gameplay. Okay so I'll explain this, by removing playstyles for survivors like sabotage or in your case making it next to impossible to actually use all your doing is mandating that survivors gen rush more as there's very little for survivors to do besides generators. For survivors to get off their main objective the risk reward ratio needs to make sense, that's why the black buffet worked so well is that the payoff of doing tables was worth spending a minute to set up much of the time but not always if the killers knew what they were doing.
-
I think he's good, a remnant of old dbd but that's what makes him fairly balanced.

@cogsturning said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103206#Comment_4103206
Your item isn't your main power. It's literally optional. Killers can't not bring their abilities.
Killers can choose to use their abilities or not. Same thing.
-
@cogsturning said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103183#Comment_4103183
Items and killers are not even remotely close to one another. Plenty of survivors go into matches without items. You wouldnt be required to use a randomly assigned item. You can just put it down.
Killers are all totally different. There are killers I have zero idea how they work. Getting a killer that does a zillion things like Vecna would be impossible. You'd spend the whole match trying to figure out the killer. This would be the most survivor-sided mode that ever existed. I would never queue to play killer in that.
Nah, four survivors that all know how to use their items is extremely strong. And either way that still does not change my argument. Either both sides should get to pick their main power or both sides should get total chaos. None of this special consideration nonsense.
-
It's an okay game mode. Is it good? No not even close. But it's something different and if you enjoy chaos then it is fun but you have to go in with the midset of making the best of what you got rather than screaming that you didin't get four meta perks.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:

It is really not that hard to understand.
Item —> Does not affect gameplay in a big way. You still have to do the standard Survivor stuff.
Killer —> Completely changes the gameplay.
So… you don't understand how items work. Medkits are very impactful from a gameplay perspective and the same can be said for toolboxes if you are able to use them correctly. Like just say you want your side to be stronger and that you don't actually want to deal with random elements in the chaos game mode. You would look slightly less ridiculous than trying to justify yourself.

If you don't mind me being the annoying Question Guy™️ here, I'd love to dig into your point about invocations. Is there anything specific that stands out to you that makes them feel not viable?
Oh I can help answer the invocations question. They are high risk, high cost, for no real reward. Treacherous crows fundamentally does not work as a perk since when it'd be useful (in chase) the survivor is going to be setting the crows off instead of the killer. Also it being only two seconds is extremely short. The other issue is the requirement of needing a survivor in the terror radius because it could also be incredibly useful to see the killers aura if they are away from you but like it just does not work. Finally many maps just don't have many crows, like the new trickster map or the treatment theater. So not only are you wasting 60+ seconds doing the invocation for a perk that functionally does nothing but you also become permanently injured for the rest of the game making you a very easy target to tunnel out.
Weaving spider on the other hand is slightly better but still runs into the same issue where even if you get it set up it's not worth being downed and easily tunneled out of the game. Saving 50 seconds on a generator is nice but ultimately even the worst players are likely to last at minimum an extra 50 seconds in chase (over multiple chases) if they have access to both health states. So you aren't saving any time on generators, you can't help out your team in any situation where you need two health states like trading hooks, and you can't last as long in chase, this is also assuming that you aren't found by the killer when doing the invocation or in a worst case scenario the gens are blocked and you just get nothing out of the perk but all the costs.
So as we can see neither perk at even a cursory glance work in any scenario as both are more likely to get the survivor using them killed rather than help them survive. Even no mither is more likely to help someone since that can be paired with sabo or resilience, these perks just don't work on any conceptual level. The final nail in the coffin is the simple fact these take up perk slots which means it's taking up options from perks that are either better at the tasks these perks are for (fogwise/dejavu) or perks that are more fun to use since it's kinda boring to sit in basement and do nothing for a minute. -

I mean, Survivors get to pick their Items, same with Killers. But even if you randomize the Item for Survivors (not saying that this should be done), randomizing a Killer is way too much. Like, I can still play Survivor just fine when the game gives me a Fog Vial randomly (the worst Item), but I would not like to have to play a Killer I completely dislike.
Lol no, sorry buddy but if I have to be stuck randomly with a broken key or a map then you can run the risk of getting skull merchant.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4103156#Comment_4103156
This would be too much randomness IMO. Some people dont play certain Killers for a reason.
I would personally not mind this as an option, even for the normal queue, that you can pick 5 Killers you want to play and the game randomly selects one for you.
Sure and some survivors don't pick certain items for a reason. It's the same argument. Personally I'd be fine with either but it should be fair. Either everyone gets everything randomly or both sides get some control.
-
@ThatRyanB said:
I'm glad to hear you're excited for the upcoming perk changes! And thank you for kicking up this thread :) I'll keep an eye on it to pass feedback on to the team!
For those of you responding, I'd love to know one thing especially about perks you'd love to see changed: WHY would you like to see the perk changed? It's one thing to voice the result you'd ultimately like to see, but it's especially helpful to understand why a perk is causing friction for you.
The main reason why I want perks to change is that they are simply not worth bringing or are very high risk with low to no reward. Like potential energy is great but it's only 20 charges that can be deleted if you get caught by the killer. Which is fine, there should be some risk to using it. But only 20 charges on a generator is way too low. Or really any chest builds since while they are very fun and neat since you guys have nerfed most of survivors items into the ground and added a bunch of map clutter to make the item pool worse they have gone from a niche build to always worse than just doing gens.
-
Oh by all means I'd love it if killers get randomly selected. Be hilarious seeing people randomly get like skull merchant.
