I would highly recommend LiS (and the prequel Before the Storm) if you like adventure style games (specifically what Telltale did). I didn't love LiS2 but it was also solid. Before the Storm was the real surprise as usually I hate prequels but I dare say it was the best of the 3 games.

There are certainly ways you could incorporate Max's powers as a survivor (maybe a healing perk like self care where you "rewind time" to before you were hit) if BHVR really wanted to try to fit her in.

Honestly though, you'd probably be better off not even trying to squeeze the killer in as they are super generic and really more of a McGuffin in the game to drive the story forward rather than someone who is actually engaging or interesting to deal with. They've done it before with Ash Williams so it's not unprecedented that they would do a survivor-only DLC.

I loved Tales from the Borderlands, and I did play like 30 minutes of the first game years ago so I'm going to try them out eventually.

I was kind of hoping for a killer only DLC to balance out Ash and Bill tbh.

Yeah, maybe if survivors step on it they get slowed down. It could be interesting, and it would make sense. But it could also be busted because it would give him quite a lot more anti-loop ability if there's slowdown. I was thinking something more along the lines of maybe blindness for the duration that you're in the Tormented effect. It covers all auras aside from survivors in the cage? It'd be pretty interesting imo, and could make him a beast at slugging. I think it's a fair debuff considering how easy it is to avoid his little trails.

Yeah I could see removing the red stain and heartbeat for stepping in it for like 15 seconds. That would actually make you think twice about running through it but wouldn't hard-remove the option either.

  • The new MMR system is tracking matches in the background and will eventually go live and hopefully make games like this much less common.

But yeah sorry mate it happens. The best thing you can do is try to initiate a farm game half way through if they're destroying you but other than that just wait for the new MMR and hope.

There is actually a killer in the game (Her powers are what drives the gameplay but the killer is the driver of the story).

I don't really see how any of it would work since her powers are primarily reversing time but sure, if BHVR could figure it out, why not.

I'm not gonna hold my breath for it though

Ah ok, I really should play those games.

Maybe time powers in an area? Force you backwards in time while the killer walks through the area? Gen slow down power? There's ways to incorporate time powers but I don't know the exact extent of hers though.

It could happen though, and that's not healthy for the game. There's always a chance it could, and with killers like PH or heck, even Nurse, it's very easy to make them busted and just remove all counterplay the survivors ever have, so it's worth being cautious when balancing them. Which is why I made this thread.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1367385#Comment_1367385

Now I can actually agree on that, but again, you don't want to improve his cooldown too much otherwise he can just spam his ranged attack. I personally would actually buff his Torment ONLY, but only make his ranged attack animations more smooth for both sides, so they get proper feedback when he uses his power and the PH can actually control it properly.

I think if the devs were to smooth out the animation, perhaps give it a tiny buff here and there, and remove the bugs, it'd probably be a really handy ability for zoning, but I'm still willing to wait on it for now.

The Torment trail though, that definitely needs changes. Survivors aren't punished much for stepping into it. Some kind of debuff could go a long way to making it a real threat.

I honestly don't know why it doesn't slow survivors. It doesn't need to be much but if they only threat is cages and Killer Instinct there's literally no reason not to run through it during a chase because you could loop him for 5 gens without downside if he can't hit you. Trails are virtually worthless if you're not focusing on cages.

  • Who would even be the killer?

I haven't played the games yet but from my understanding it's some supernatural storm vs a lesbian with time powers and her friends? Who would be killing the survivors? I'd play as a storm but I don't think it's likely lol.

Iv been thinking. Is PH another Nurse? A Killer that can be damned good if the player is skilled, but also a Killer that is very weak in the hands of a random Joe.

    No. It's similar but no.

With Nurse you must use your power and correctly or you will fail. PH can use his power wrong and still win because it can still lands hits or he can just m1 at the worst.

He also does not have the same capability as Nurse does. If you're amazing most every blink can be a hit. With PH every PotD does not have a chance of hitting due to range, time to attack, and the stun.

He's definitely a tier or 2 lower than her.

All killers with the exception of Nurse (bugs) and Shape (T1 and T3) have the same, standard lunge.

I don't know how many times we will have to say this before they understand it lol.

Lol I main Wraith, Freddy & Doc and did so ages ago. Then Freddy got reworked and Doc got his superbuff, so cmon bhvr where's the Wraith rework that brings me joy?

    Sounds working though? Great joke.

They're with the Nurse bug fixes bro!

  • Honestly if his trails slowed survivors down he would be ok.

If they don't want him to have that slow in the trail then his ranged attack needs to be better. Faster, less stun, more range, etc... Something.

  • Did you take any pics? SS?

  • I've actually encountered a scenario where a survivor was able to protect an almost complete gen from regressing as I chased her away from it.

So yes the gen is immune from everything.

Can I ask how does one keep it constructive when a survivor tries to point out the inconsistencies in a killers argument only to get dog piled by the killer sided forums?

I wouldn't say the forums are one sided or the other. Lots of people are vocal for both roles at different times and it can seem like one overwhelms the other.

But you just keep posting the best you can and hope the devs respond or see it. Nothing else you can do unfortunately.

It really depends on your loadout. It can be GG if you run tracking perks like Stridor, Nurses, All Ears, etc. There are a ton of blink deadzones though. I say it's bad, but I've 3 or 4k'd every time without add ons, so I might just be a grumpy Nurse main.

Yeah I think that's a good point. Without Tinkerer I don't think I would like that map much because I hateeeeeeee wasting a full blink trying to go down a hallway because a single little thing was blocking it.

  • The issue isn't complaining about the elements of the game we dislike, it's doing it without being constructive. If you can make reasonable arguments or claims it should be brought up and be discussed.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I've never played this many map offerings. Anything to avoid Haddonfield 2.0

I'm torn on if it's bad as Nurse or not.

On one hand it's double story so that puts her at an inherit advantage. However, there are lots of places to break LOS and it's really hard to catch good survivors if turn the corner in a hallway and you're in fatigue. The map is tiny as hell which means it's really easy to sneak up on survivors with certain perks and to cross the map in a reasonable amount of time.

I haven't faced enough good survivors on it yet to decide but with Tinkerer you can really strangle some gens on it.

  • @Dead_by_Gadfly said:

Alright but tbf fam youre playing deathslinger with no perks at all. You were always going to have a bad time...

You're not wrong but at the same time basekit no perks should be viable to play. If 4 survivors can go perkless/itemless and stomp killers the reverse should only be true too as long as the killer is sufficiently skilled.

But they took that away with Nurse.

  • @ABannedCat said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1363496#Comment_1363496

Not just basekit changes but "sLiGhT bAsEkIt TwEaKs".

Like 2 ######### 3 seconds cooldowns, new maps littered with deadzones, and servers randomly janking around your chargemeter, or outright taking away your ######### power for good.

Billy mains are so gonna cry like we Nurse mains did.

Lol they're already crying and the rework hasn't even begun. That gamebreaking bug still hurting him last I heard, but been there done that as Nurse.

    @Witas said:

There is no way they'll nerf Hillbilly, he's propably the best killer they have when it comes to balance

-strong but fair with weaknesses to exploit

-fun to use and fun to go against

-has a high enough skill ceiling to really allow great players to thrive with him.

Nerfing hillbilly would be like saying outright: "we don't want strong killers anymore, all we want are Mid tier killers with cooldowns and hinderances in their power" and there is no way they want their game to become this stale, one dimensional bs.

I know very well what kind of response I'll get for saying this, but that is indeed my belief (Because after 4 years, playing straight from the release, I still have no idea what they're thinking). If they do endup nerfing him then atleast I'll be sure what kind of developer BHVR is once and for all.

And yet I still feel a cooldown or power meter on the winds for them. Tis the season.

Is that confirmed to come though? Genuinely asking because that could very well mean they will also look at the base-kit. I just didn’t know they were wanting to look at it in near future.

plus in last Q&A they only specifically mentioned Clown in regards to reworks.

After Nurse received hers it was confirmed they would be the next ones to get the same thing.

Whether or not that means they'll get butchered or actually helped is anyone's guess but expect basekit changes alongside the addon pass.

  • @johnmwarner said:

In all seriousness they may not be able to mess it up because my understanding is JK Rowling is a complete control freak. Disney threw so much money at her but she took HP works to universal because they gave her full control and Disney wouldn’t.

Pipe dream time, because I don’t trhjnk BHVR wants Harry Potter it doesn’t fit. Also I don’t think they would dish out enough money. But that may be the only thing to actually fix the game, she would be all over them every single day if Voldemort was bugged and not making sounds she would demand fixes ASAP

We need someone with enough power to speak to the manager of BHVR and demand fixes.

  • @johnmwarner said:

Please no, they would mess it up

"His ability 'killing curse' will put survivors into the Deep Wounds state"

    I can see it now.

  • My guess is he's talking about the lovely "addon pass" that the chainsaw bois are going to get like Nurse got.

  • No make it a dementor.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

You know, I often get annoyed when people necro threads.

But this. This one right here. It only makes sense. It'd be like how Pig got her crouching add-on semi-basekit. Demo should get the same treatment. You shouldn't have to waste an add-on slot just to make a killer feel less clunky to use. I know I'd play him a lot more if this was the case.

She managed to blink into the secret room in the underground lab, so...its worth checking.

I can confirm you cannot blink into that room before it is open. I also very much doubt you can blink in it when it's open either. It just acted like a deadzone.

  • If his trails slowed people, he would be ok.

But as it stands his trails are worthless in a chase (outside of trying to use it for snipes with damned but that's a very risky strat) and his Punishment ability is very weak right now. It can only punish animations locks most of the time and that's not really what I wanted it to be for so yeah he could use a little bit of love.

Definitely not weak but not strong either.

Cages are bad because don't activate perks like pop, devour and bbq

Range attack is bad because bad designed

    What an amazing job, BHVR!

It's really sad I was so hoping his range attack would let him become like a new Nurse for the game. Oh well :(.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one greatly disappointed in his ranged attacked to the point of not even using it for most of the match.

  • It's probably because of how big he feels, and that's throwing you off?

When I'm using him he feels kinda massive and I'm not used to having a giant blade as a primary weapon.

  • @johnmwarner said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1359388#Comment_1359388

I may be using trenches a lot less than initially thought, just straight lines across halls and doors

My original vision of him was like a short ranged Nurse like someone else said. Anytime I get relatively close the first thing I want to do is use Punishment of the Damned for a cool range attack. Way more often than not though that would be a terrible idea and I'm better off just m1 them like anyone else.

Then Trenches don't actively help you in a chase so there's no real point in digging them trying to slow them like Freddy or Clown. Once survivors realize the trenches are only scary on your death hook people will just keep looping him anytime someone tries to fake with the dig or god forbid actually waste time digging.

He's a lot less impressive than I initially thought that's for sure.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1359307#Comment_1359307

Well... yeah... so the survivors go in thinking “haha, we got all these vaults and drops and fences”, only to change their tune when it’s “oh crap I can’t remember which pallets are real and fake anymore”

I don't play much pallet Freddy but in my experience they usually just stopped using pallets after a while and focused on loops that didn't involve them. Haddonfield could certainly accommodate that.

  • @johnmwarner said:

Thanks guys, glad I’m not imagine it. I can get used to it then if it’s by design

It's bad design tbh. Me and several others have complained about the sensitivity jump and looking while trenching but just like with Nurse nothing will come of it.

  • @averycoolname said:

At least for right now when he is so new Survivors are avoiding the trail harder than the plague

Is letting me hook you on the other side of the map really that big of an advantage? The trail doesnt slow you, it reveals you with Killer Instinct while youre on it, and it lets me instantly hook you but on the other side of the map from where i am

Yes i can kill you with it but only when you are already dead on hook

Oh it doesn't slow survivors? That kinda makes it nigh useless lmao.

I thought all this time they were getting slowed down like ~10%. Nothing serious but something.

What is scary about being revealed and getting caged? Outside of final hook there is no point in avoiding the trails if you can loop him since it doesn't actually help him stop loops.

  • @DwightOP said:

Well, Hawkins and the new school map are ridiculous as survivor aswell. They are extremely killer sided. But I don't go out of my way to say that those who use the offering are exploiters.

Yeah I'm not sure on the new map yet but Hawkins in my experience has been fairly balanced. As Nurse my only issues with it are the amount of blink deadzones and the LOS maze that is most of the map.

Normally I wouldn't say that either but most toxic SWF groups I encounter that are picking maps pick Haddonfield most often. When you're going to the same map over and over because most of the killer cast is seriously disadvantaged there it stops being just bad design and starts being exploitation of that bad design.

When I run The Game offerings as Nurse it's still not the same. Survivors actually have a shot if they can rub braincells together, Haddonfield is just a straight up nightmare in all respects with only braindead survivors losing on it imo.

  • @Acromio said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1271390#Comment_1271390

In the mantime, survivors are able to consistently uncork every killer, regardless of their skill, with no perks and no items.

    Double standards much?

BHVR designing killers lately to be too addon and perk dependent. I like when killers need a little bit of those to be strong but not to the point of having to run it or lose out big time.

  • @Frankie said:

You know, it's funny. As a killer main, I agree, Haddonfield needs a rework. It's dated and the Haddonfences are horse #########...but I consistently get a 2k or more on that map. It's not that bad.

Have you tried it with Nurse? There's very little game in that mess lol.

  • Yeah so far he's meh for me too. I feel like his range attack needs more oompf. Too easy for toxic squads to never get hit once in a game right now even when only striking for animations like vaulting or in corridors.

  • @Nebula said:

I'd agree as a base killer with no perks or add-ons, PH is very underwhelming. Good survivors feel extremely tilting to play as against him, as you miss your power one time and they gain major distance.

This. If you miss even 3 Punishments you're pretty much ######### unless they trip over themselves in the basement.

  • Tbh I'm not made at the amount of bugs we have. I'm upset that they're ignored. All I need is a "We're trying to find a solution" but it's just silence most of the time.

  • @aregularplayer said:

Planned maintenance on steam servers EVERY WEEK THE SAME HOUR.

I saw that it was Tuesday but I couldn't remember the time. They really should move it lol.

  • Are you on Steam?

I believe it's a Steam issue right now, I and my BF can't get Steam games like DbD to work atm.

  • I'd say B/low A.

Definitely not S tier tho that's for sure.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

There is no "auto aim." There's no "aim assist," either. What DbD has is "aim dressing," which means that when the killer swings it's adjusted to look like it hit the survivor. The system checks to see if the hit connects, then it adjusts the swing, then it checks to see if it hit again. This is how killers get screwed out of what should've been a hit.

To put it another way, this is how a dev explained it: Aim assist helps killers get hits they otherwise shouldn't have. Aim dressing will never help a killer get a hit; it can only cause them to miss when they shouldn't have.

What about after I blink and try to swing into a perfectly timed dead hard? My camera and swing animation both get vacuumed to where they DH from and it will make even lunges act like short swings before I'm able to control my camera again.

  • Unless he's next on the rework pass list don't expect any fixes aside from the occasional random, but not too helpful, map specific bug fix for him.

*laughs in Nurse then cries and downs a whole bottle*

  • @Fiv55 said:

Well havent played the live version yet, but this was a thing on the ptb as well. Cant tell if the zones are bigger than before, just watched a few streamers play him.

Also seems like that the "basement hook zone" covers a bit of the basement stairs. At least they disappeared mid way very quick but bottom/top was still there.

Stairs make it disappear faster or almost instantly.

Yeah I was really excited for a new ranged killer but he's looking very much like an m1 killer in most situations.

  • @Chewy102 said:

You joke, but my first impressions are that PH is a touch too good. I honestly think it should be punishing if you miss his ranged attack seeing how unsafe it makes most pallets/windows.

I disagree. It's too punishing right now, for how braindead easy it is to dodge.

Now I'm all for the stun we have now on successful hits, but missed ones should be shorter stun with maybe a small (<5sec) rest period between uses.
