If they do, they're clearly not interested in expressing an opinion that could be construed as pro-Killer or anti-Survivor on the forums.

Which is a bit understandable; it takes a certain amount of bravery to make a post knowing damn well that it'll be downvoted to oblivion.

"Bravery" is quite the word choice for this particular situation. But maybe it's not that everyone but you is wrong. Maybe people just aren't as outrageously biased towards your very, very obviously favored role and are considering the game as a whole.

This is a bandwagon argument, and there's a reason it's a logical fallacy.

This forum is little more than a Survivor main echo chamber. If your post makes Killer look bad or Survivor look good, you get lots of upvotes and everyone will agree with you, no matter how rude, dishonest or logically unsound it may be.

If your post does the opposite, however, even if you're simply stating the obvious, you can expect tons of downvotes, people calling you all sorts of rude names, twisting your words, making wild accusations… not exactly the best environment for diversity of thought.

Why would I listen to people who tell me I'm wrong and call me rude names no matter what I say or do, unless I uncritically praise Survivor and badmouth Killer?

So you think none of these people you've been arguing with play and understand the Killer role and only care about Survivor?

    You're confusing disagreement with dishonesty.

It'd be one thing if people were honestly engaging with my points, but when people make flatly ridiculous arguments like "Doing gens is just as difficult as anything Killer does", that is a red flag that they are not arguing in good faith.

And there's no room for good faith discussion with someone who isn't arguing in good faith. It takes two to tango. I can't have a reasonable discussion if I'm not talking to a reasonable person. And I can't beat someone with kindness if they don't value kindness.

So all that's left is to either leave the discussion entirely or call them out for bad behavior by accurately describing what they're doing.

If literally everyone is disagreeing with you and thinks you're being over-the-top maybe you should reassess.

So, what? We're not allowed to say something is bad or sound the alarm when bad things are happening simply because other people had it worse? What insane breed of logic is that?

These are the types of things that happen when hate speech is allowed to fester; it becomes normalized, people become numb to it, people pretend these things are completely fine when they are anything but.

Word to the wise: You can't beat these types by being calm, dispassionate, the adult in the room, because the things they're saying and doing should make you upset. It is normal, quite understandable actually, to be upset by cruelty, hatred and injustice.

Ignoring someone is what you do when they're insulting your mother, not when they're threatening the lives and livelihoods of innocent people. And if that isn't enough motivation for you, remember: The groups they're targeting are negotiable, and may soon include you if they don't already.

So bad images on the internet = probable future murderer isn't insane logic? This reminds me of the tired arguments about violent games and movies leading to real life violence. I've seen a ton of horrible images and videos yet here I am, not a murderer. I'm so obnoxiously moral that people get annoyed at me here for being excessively ethical in regards to something as meaningless as this game. I consider ethics in everything I do. The internet has yet to change me. And I didn't say they were fine, I said they were ubiquitous.

And ignoring who? Who are you shaking your fist at? It was some ridiculous ragebait in a game forum and you transformed it into a matter of mass murder. Take things in context. It was gross but not apocalyptic. And don't worry, the hate agendas do include me, I just don't live in a hyperbolic woebegone fantasy where I think everything is the end of the world while simultaneously existing in humanity's easiest and most progressive time period.

  • It really did look cool. I'm for bringing back darkness offerings and other weather-type changes. Would be neat.

Whatever progress humanity has made can be rolled back with surprising ease, and the types who frequent Chan boards are among those trying to make that happen. In fact, we're currently seeing rollbacks to healthcare, food abundance, and human rights happening in countries that were once considered frontrunners for progress.

I base those statements on the fact that dozens of mass shootings occur in the United States every year that were directly linked to the supremacist ideologies common to Chan boards.

And there was a significant uptick in such violent incidents right around the time hate groups began moving to the internet.

Backwards slides usually lead to prosperous times and leaps forwards, like the period after WW2. And most forms of progress can't be rolled back without some massive shift to the whole planet. You would need something like the plague, Dark Ages, or the Crusades. One country may become more anti-science, but the others will keep going. Rollbacks to healthcare are a societal shift and are not the same as rollbacks to the progress of medical science. Even with a current leaning towards more archaic views, things are still better for every marginalized group now than they were when when I was a kid, and that's just from one modern time to a slightly more modern time.

It's hundreds of mass shootings, not dozens, but America is not the world. And as horrible as the phenomenon is, it still pales in comparsion to the horrors of the past. Imagine living in America's Wild West period, or before the Columbian Exchange made different foods more accessible throughout the world. It's not even comparable. This is humanity's most comfortable hour.

Yeah, Springtrap has been really bugged this patch. I played a match last night and all I saw was the ground whenever I used the security doors. Also, the end-screen becomes solid black whenever you play as or against Springtrap.

Not to mention that Lights-Out-esque darkness bug when you spectate and someone uses the security door.

How many people are radicalized towards real-world violence out of these? Too many, I can tell you that. And the ones who don't go so far as enacting violence will often instead join political hate groups, with the goal of using the state apparatus to enact violence on a far wider scale than they ever could acting by themselves.

How many would have done it anyway? Not that many, from what I've seen; the reach and impunity that comes with the internet means it has never been easier for hate groups to find disgruntled, insecure young people and radicalize them to the cause. And placed in a different environment, most if not all could have gone down a different path.

Make no mistake, bigotry is learned behavior, either passed down through generations, or through the concentrated efforts of hate groups.

Yet global homicide has been on a constant decline. Historically, wars were constant. Death and violence were everyday life. Combined with improved health care, decreased food scarcity, and growth in human rights, human life as a whole has more value in modern times than ever. Bad things on the internet don't seem to be standing in the way.

How many people are radicalized towards real-world violence out of these? Too many, I can tell you that.

How many would have done it anyway? Not that many, from what I've seen

I don't know if some 14-year-old internet edgelord behind a keyboard really hates me; that doesn't matter, but it doesn't change what they said.

And frequently enough, words like that are simply a prelude to actions in the real world. Plenty of mass shooters were radicalized on Chan boards.

And how those Chan boards react to such violence is just as telling; instead of being disgusted, many rally around it and defend the violence.

Sure they're not disgusted. That's why they're there, because it compels them. They're showing off their fortitude and edginess for the internet, where there's a coating of unreality on everything. Almost all would likely act different in real-life. Typing things you don't even mean just to project an image is easy. The chans are full of people testing the boundaries of society's tolerance. So is liveleaks and similar places. You can find a dead person with a simple Google search. There are probably millions of people interacting with these things everyday. Do I like that? No. Do I want more censorship of such things. Sure. But we'll just go back to the Faces of Death days when kids passed this stuff around, but instead of on VHS it'll be thumb drives. It's ever present and society continues on.

But how many people are radicalized towards real world violence out of these? And how many were already there and just feeding a thing that already existed in them anyway?

  • @Monlyth said:

No, you really can't proclaim what you want with words.

How would you react if someone said they were going to kill you, or your friend? Not very well, I'd hope.

So why, then, would you give it a pass if someone said they were going to kill an entire group of people, based on their race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.?

And make no mistake, for far, far, far too many of these 4Chan types, that is the end goal. To murder entire categories of human being.

Wow way to go extreme. 14-year-old internet edgelords are not mass-murdering death squad members. They're almost all just trying to make people mad.

If, during peak hours for the game, the queue times for Killers are horrid, then that means there are not enough Survivors playing versus the number of Killers playing. In all dying games stuff like this fluctuates - it's why we're talking about the peak hours, when the majority of players are playing, when we bring up queue times. Queue times during this point are the biggest indicator of how well or poorly a game is performing - the fact there are so few Survivors who even want to play during peak hours is a problem that should actually be taken seriously.

I get it, I just haven't experienced it despite hearing about it a lot, and I play just about everyday, somewhere between 5pm and 5am. My survivor matches tend to take longer to queue up. Maybe it's my region's server idk.

  • @kosaba11 said:

Who said we were okay with this? There's literally nothing we can do apart from not playing, and even that isn't working. You'd think the insane queue time for Killers, which is caused the decreasingly smaller Survivor pool, would be a wake up call, but it isn't. BHVR continues to ignore Survivor feedback and only want to make Killers happy.

People say this about the queue times, but the killler queues in my time zone at night are instant. There's often a bonus on killler. That's when all the friends are partying up. It's the ability to play with friends that's keeping the role alive. If something bugged out with he partying system and no one could join together the game would then collapse. I don't see there being enough people willing to endure soloq to keep it afloat.

Stop with this stupid argument already. Krasue doesn't even require actual money to be purchased.

If people who want a low effort killer don't have the shards they will pay for her, especially with everyone hollering nonstop about how easy she is to play.

  • @ImWinston said:

    • I've always "defended" the devs, but I'm also starting to think that the buffs to Krasue are EXCLUSIVELY to incentivize sales. Just look at all the TikTok/YouTube videos coming out these days. Of course, all new content is successful on social media, but in this case, it's even more so when defending or saying "op" to Krasue. All free advertising. The priority is money

Indeed. The priority will always be money. We can complain until the end of days but if people continue to spend and the game keeps making money, it all falls on deaf ears.

I don't understand the need for people to have dramatic exits, I just can't grasp the concept. Nevertheless I wish you all the best.

I find it frightening that people are demanding a person should single-handedly disable downvotes. It shows that some people have a strange worldview, where whatever a vocal minority seems to have decided is immediately carried out with the stroke of a pen (spoiler: nothing has been decided).

It's awkward, the mindset of people trying to remove a way to express for OTHER PEOPLE how they feel about a topic or a statement. People seem to use the argument that if you downvote, you're obliged to explain why you downvoted. Why? Who made that rule? Is this a chapter in the Upvoters Handbook for Downvoters? Nobody seems to expect an explanation on an upvote. Kinda strange if you think about it, you could like something but for a completely different reason (again: which nobody asks for, but when it's a downvote, then it's asked for). Or maybe you only agree partially. Maybe you just like the style of a post. Doesn't matter, right? For upvotes, there are different "rules". Yeah, it doesn't make sense. Ok ok ok, but anyway, when can we remove downvotes?

Take this comment as an example:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4006538#Comment_4006538

Did people upvote because they like the "The downvotes should never have returned" comment or because they just like the bird picture? It's not clear. Simple as that. Ok ok ok, but anyway, when can we remove downvotes?

Upvotes can be as ambiguous as downvotes. A fact nobody wants to see or mention. Enough with the facts, let's bash downvotes. Let's call for their removal. dOwnvoteS aRE juST promOTing ToxIciTY ANd nEGATivIty AnYwaY.

We almost forgot the elephant in the room: one does not remove "negativity" by removing a downvote button. That's not how it works. There are reasons why people do not agree, and they should be able to (even if you think they should not). There could be underlying issues that make people downvote and those would need to be addressed and solved. Applying your own logic, you'd literally be removing the symptom instead of the root cause. But apparently, that's a big thing in today's society, which is: make the symptom invisible so we don't even have to acknowledge that there is a root cause. Ok ok ok, but anyway, when can we remove downvotes? Seriously when?

Downvotes should never have been removed to begin with. I appreciate upvotes and downvotes. I consider both as interaction.

So you have a great day. And by the way, you can always just downvote this response. After all, it's your right (for now), and I would never even try to take that away from you. Despite the fact that some people want to take it away from me and other likeminded people.

No one thinks removing the system removes negativity. Quite the opposite. If you really had something to say, removing the voting means you can't just hide behind a cop out. You actually have to say it.

The downvotes, specifically, are doing more harm than good. I've seen a lot of people get mad because they feel their opinion is immediately dismissed, sometimes not even because of the opinion itself, but because they're the one expressing it and they might not be liked. It's more a popularity contest than anything constructive.

  • It's been hella helpful to me as killer because I can see what's chugging from far away. Maybe it will help survivors who don't know the layout well spot gens too.

I don't know that I would say that. I think a lot of Survivors would agree that some wins still feel terrible and that many only happen because the Killer handed it to them, which doesn't really make the game feel interactive.

I just had one of these unfun wins:

Totally perplexing and boring. Killers was not AFK. I triggered his Iron Maiden with my BtL. He came by. I just walked away and he couldnt find me. He hit my friend and ran off at one point. Ran past me a few times without seeing me. We won. I did not have fun.

And I welcome the addition of anti-tunnel mechanics. Y'know… if they're actually implemented well.

At this point, this argument is mostly about bleep275 passing moral judgment against Killers who tunnel.

Which, in my view, falls flat when they give no such treatment to any of the things Survivors can do to make the experience of playing Killer miserable. I genuinely find it more annoying to be forced to stay the entire length of a game where I'm already really behind than to be tunneled out of the game early, because with the latter, I can very easily just queue into the next game.

Which, in my view, falls flat when they give no such treatment to any of the things Survivors can do to make the experience of playing Killer miserable.

Again, tell me the equivalent. I haven't had a group of survivors make me miserable since I was new and encountered bully squads. And Lightborn took care of that, which is another thing there's no survivor equivalent for. I can't slap on a perk that makes me untunnelable.

  • @Monlyth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4006966#Comment_4006966

As I said, if that's what bothers you about tunneling, then at some point you have to recognize that Survivor will never realistically be what you want it to be.

Unless we're going to go so far as to fundamentally change the way downs and hooks work, it will always be possible for a Survivor to spend the overwhelming majority of their match unable to do anything meaningful.

What is "that" referring to? Is "that" the fact that one side has full agency and that the other four are at the mercy of that one player's whims or morals? Does that seem like a totally okay place for the game to be? That one role is potentially the punching bag for the other?

This is one of the only games you've seen with this sort of complaint? You've never seen people get mad at camping and spawn sniping in a shooter? Frowned upon tactics are as old as gaming.

I'm just commenting to say I appreciate how thoughtful, researched and reasonable your comments on this issue have been. You've been really articulate in explaining what the primary issue here is, why it's such a problem, and why it isn't comparable to any survivor behaviour.

Because nothing a survivor does (short of cheats) can make a killer physically unable to play the game, the killer will always have agency. A survivor who gets hard tunnelled out is just flat out being denied the chance to even play at all.

Because nothing a survivor does (short of cheats) can make a killer physically unable to play the game, the killer will always have agency.

I don't know why this simple statement is so hard to grasp. You can maybe not care, but at least accept it.

  • @Monlyth said:

Doing gens. Not screwing around with totems or other side objectives, just doing your main objective as efficiently and effectively as possible. Because in case you've forgotten, the Killer's objective is to kill the Survivors, and tunneling is generally a very effective way to accomplish that; once one Survivor is out of the game, the rest are in a greatly weakened position and can be dispatched much more easily.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4006935#Comment_4006935

I'm sorry, but fun is subjective. There's lots of things I hate more than tunneling, even when playing Survivor; I'm genuinely more upset by a Killer who chooses to BM and be a jerk in the endgame chat than a Killer who plays to win in the scummiest ways possible.

So unless you've got some way to prove that your subjective experience of DbD is objectively correct, it's simply your word against mine when it comes to which optimal strategies are or aren't "problematic" or worthy of condemnation.

And I disagree; the biggest source of toxicity in this game is BM. Because there are plenty of incentives and rewards to use optimal strategies that might upset the other side, but there's absolutely no material benefit to taunting your opponents other than upsetting them. There's no real excuse for it.

Had to go back and make sure I said "equivalent." In what way does doing gens incapacitate the killer or shove them out of the match with 7k points in two minutes?

once one Survivor is out of the game, the rest are in a greatly weakened position and can be dispatched much more easily.

Wow thanks for explaining that I had no idea.

  • @Monlyth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4006907#Comment_4006907

I'm sorry, but just telling the other side in an asymmetric game "Don't play in a way that I don't like" just isn't gonna fly.

Would you find that argument persuasive if I said something like that about Survivors? I mean, obviously not, or the conversation wouldn't have gotten to this point.

There's a whole tangled mess of incentives and rewards for Killers to tunnel, and until you deal with that, tunneling isn't going to stop anytime soon. You can scream at Killers until the end of time that they shouldn't tunnel, but I'd bet my life on it that plenty of them will keep tunneling anyway so long as the game allows it.

The sooner you accept that, the better; the sooner we can move the conversation in a productive direction and embrace solutions that actually work.

Blame the individual if you want a handful of rare exceptions, blame the system if you want results.

Or in the meantime, if you really hate tunneling that much, why don't you just main Killer? There's plenty of things to dislike about playing Killer, but getting tunneled most certainly isn't one of them.

Would you find that argument persuasive if I said something like that about Survivors?

What actions can survivors perform that is their equivalent of tunneling?

i dont think age or streamers has anything to do with hyper competitiveness. i been playing games since the og Atari and sega megadrive and i dont watch streamers (i rather play the game myself than watch other play it). but i still like to win whatever game im playing and often i am competitive and always have been. the choice isnt fun OR win, they can coexist together as having fun by winning and there is nothing wrong with that.

That's cool it's not you, but anyone who got really into multiplayer gaming in the last decade or so has come into it in the age of Twitch, esports, and social media. They don't know a version of gaming that wasn't like this. They weren't just playing Mortal Kombat against friends on a Genesis after school. Even in this forum the name dropping of streamers to wild. So-and-so said this and the new video from whoever-the-hell explained it perfectly. You're expected to listen to and care about these people's opinions. I've already seen several Krasue players running the Dissolution and Bamboozle combo because it immediately spread online. It's been like a day since this character came out.

I honestly don't know how anyone past 30 can can take gaming so serious. There's probably lots of other important things in your life. This is just of so low value in a fully established adult life.

And the discussion point isn't that fun and winning are mutually exclusive because that's absurd, it's that the only way some people have fun is by winning and they don't care who they step on to get to this goal that wins you absolutely nothing in life.

You know what gets me about you pro-tunnelers? You argue as if tunneling is the only way to win, as if the only way to enjoy the game is by forcing a victory.

I’ve been playing since 2016/2017, almost entirely as killer, racking up around 3 to 3.5k hours before even touching survivor. And in all that time, not once have I tunneled. Not once have I camped. And guess what? I’ve still won the vast majority of my games.

Tunneling is not a fundamental. It is a shortcut. A crutch for players who lack the skill, patience, or creativity to win otherwise. You frame it like it is some essential mechanic, but really it is selfishness disguised as strategy.

Think about it. In any community, certain behaviors are called out because they drag down the experience for everyone else. Cutting in line at a grocery store is not illegal, but most people avoid doing it even though it is technically “optimal.” Why? Because it is bad behavior. Because it poisons the environment for everyone.

That is exactly what tunneling does in Dead by Daylight. It does not just create frustration; it breeds toxicity. It is the embodiment of toxicity in this game. And if your default playstyle regularly causes anger and resentment, that should be a sign you are contributing to the problem.

And no, survivors are not mad simply because they lose. This game is designed so survivors lose often. They are mad because tunneling strips away mutual enjoyment, which is the core of multiplayer gaming. You can win without tunneling. You can win while still allowing everyone to feel like they played. That is sportsmanship 101, something most of us are taught in kindergarten: winning is not everything.

    So tunnelers have a choice:

    A) Win at the cost of the community, feeding only your own shallow dopamine hit.

    B) Still win, but in a way that supports mutual enjoyment and strengthens the community.

If you choose A, then either you are extremely selfish or you have tied your self-worth to constant dopamine from winning. In that case, therapy can help. Cognitive behavioral therapy in particular is a good start because it challenges the belief that losing means you are worthless. There are healthier ways to build self-esteem: creating art, hiking, exercising, or finding non-competitive skills and hobbies that reward progress rather than constant victory.

And this is not just opinion. A growing body of research links hyper-competitiveness with worse mental health, poorer relationships, and more toxic communities. One peer-reviewed study by Beres et al. (2021), titled “Don’t You Know That You’re Toxic: Normalization of Toxicity in Online Gaming”, shows a clear connection between competitive gamers, moral disengagement, and antisocial behavior. The study found that players with these traits are far more likely to justify or rationalize toxic playstyles.

The purpose of video games is to have fun. Tunneling eliminates that possibility for everyone except the one selfish player who does it. And in real life, when someone only ever looks out for their own benefit, they usually are not very well liked or tolerated.

”the same can be said for other strategies”….those don’t nearly cause as much resentment and hate as tunneling. 🙄

You know what gets me about you pro-tunnelers? You argue as if tunneling is the only way to win, as if the only way to enjoy the game is by forcing a victory.

This always puzzles me, because I see so many people in the forums defending it, yet I don't do it as killer nor do I see that much hard tunneling in my survivor matches. So, like most of the forum, they are vocal minority. But when you do come across it in game, it'll be more negatively impactful on your mindset than your last ten matches.

The purpose of video games is to have fun. Tunneling eliminates that possibility for everyone except the one selfish player who does it.

Quite a lot of people here argue that "fun" and "win" are synonyms. They can't distinguish between the two.

The hyper-competitveness in gaming is so strange to me and is a pretty modern phenomenon, but many players are young enough that it's all they know. That and streamers, who have really killed the vibe.

  • The numbers don't prove anything. The only reason I ever play 2v8 is the BP bonus and to play KWF. I would never touch survivor without that bonus. Let them do a 2v8 without the multiple and see how that goes.

  • It's kinda crazy to me how much people's behavior is influenced by other people's behavior. Whenever this topic comes up, it's always "But look how mean they were to me." I don't BM as killer or survivor. Do other people do it to me? Sure, every single day. I'm still not going to do it because I'm not a child and everyone you play against is a different person.

And plenty of survivors are chill. The bad ones just stand out more. I don't play with anyone who does this. If we have a random BMing on a team and we're on comms I will call it out to my teammates because that's a no-go. Team-minded as I am, if you're acting like that I will leave you behind.

    DBD roadmap.

I'm SO excited for the MMR rework considering how everything gets better and better! Can't wait to have a fresh install as my teammate against a 20k killer with a 95% KR.

I love that. I wanted to do navy and forest green but I'm moving in the next few years so I decided against it.

It's an approachable project for sure. You can do it any sort of way at any skill level. It might be fun to attach it to an existing lamp base.

Yeah I've been wallowing in white, beige, and gray for too long as a renter but now I have a house and the neutrals gotta go.

I'm hoping to make it really accurate. I've got some fake candles in different heights that can change colors. Got the skulls, but I need a dremel to cut them properly. I need three good sticks. Somehow "sticks" is the hardest item on the list.

Play it with the guitar perk and have a little symphony going.

Hopefully they'll make a keyboard or drums perk next.

If you form a band the killer is required by law to let you leave.

  • Yeah. I like darks and mids. I'm hopng to do the whole house like that eventaully. Maroon, navy, mustard, plum, etc. Unfortunately everything but the library is still the default gray because paint is expensive and I'm also lazy.

My next smaller project is actually to make a DbD totem mood lamp now that the plastic skulls are back out for Halloween. I haven't found any good bones for the base yet though.

  • Never, ever plain white. Green, to match the rest of my library. They're for additional book storage. I've been putting it off for a months because I'm addicted to this game.

"Crazy when devs fumble so hard people would rather do a hella boring project than play ur game"

This made me laugh because I'm literally about to go and spring clean my kid's wardrobes even though I have quests to catch up on in DBD. I'm literally more motivated to clean than play DBD. And i only play killer too lol I'm thinking we have burn out

I've got some shelving to paint and install in my closets. Maybe now's the time.

  • It's also can be used to befriend them.
