My expectations were low, not terribly surprised something is broken

There's a lot of perks that are used to make up for poor balance.
Decisive strike, borrowed time, undying, ruin. I don't know why they havn't addressed the core issues instead of band-aid fixing things.
Here's to hoping they actually overhaul the base game.

Isn't it kinda weird how all of the older perks are meta?
It seems like they're too afraid of making good perks.
I think the problem with most modern perks is they come with too many prerequisites to even activate them.

I think it is hard to truly balance this game with various skill levels.
It really comes down to looping. If the killer ends chases fast they usually win. If not, they lose.
But I have a friend rank 1 that can straight loop you for 5 gens, pretty regularly.
I myself, have my moments, but I tend to lose chases quickly. I am a rank 3.
Now how do we balance around these different skill levels. 4 of me and we probably lose. 4 of my buddy and killer would be lucky to get a couple of hooks.
The post is more about how perks cover up aspects of the base game that should have been addressed years ago , but you got the spirit.
Quite literally, judging by your profile picture.

The luck offerings grant a massive 1/2/3% bonus chance to unhooking yourself. That's it.
But how would I respect the 4% if it becomes a 7%!?

The game should be balanced around perks being in play, but not around some particular perk being in play.
If a certain perk is run every game, either it's blantantly overpowered and needs to be hammered into place (Exhaustion, DS) or the game surrounding it needs fixing to make that effect less necessary (Pop, Ruin+Undying).
I agree, plus the listed killer perks cover for some things that should have been touched up a while ago.
The main reason undying became meta is because it covers for bad totem RNG. They could do something like corrupt intervention for totems.
For pop it covers for how bad base gen regression is. Not saying it needs to be ruin levels of fast, but it could use some buffs.

@MrLimonka said:
What do you mean, useless?
I think that the fact there are 6 different luck offerings is great and perfectly fine. They are absolute gamechangers.
Does luck do anything actually useful?
It sounds like something that could affect the rarity of items in chests but apparently it doesn't.

some things shoud be fixed directly: like camping and tunneling. Perks are bandaid in that situation
I think slowdown perks also cover for how fast gens can go too.
If I try to not run any slowdown perks in a build those gens will pop like there's no tomorrow.
Hopefully the early game slowdown can help with that. But we'll have to wait and see what the mechanic actually does.

I like how thicc Jane is
But I'm pretty sure she contributes to half of the games file size.

-Optimization
-Stale meta (a LOT of perks need some serious buffs)
-The grind is absolutely awful and the main reason why i wouldn't recommend this game to anyone
Plus the whole band-aid fix issue
Perks should not cover for an unbalanced base game.

There's something to be said about taking a break from DBD for a bit- I've been far less stressed. I highly recommend taking a break from the game, especially to killer mains, as while the game is faily balanced at the moment it's in its most aggravating state for killers. At least, in my opinions.
Unfortunately, taking a break has had a rather peculiar side effect: I want to play more, but every time I load up the game I think about all the hassle the game's design/toxic community has given me and end up turning to a different game. Like, I love the game's premise, and playing Killer is fun, but damn it's tedious.
Yeah, plus if you take a break from the game for long enough you get rusty at the gameplay.
I'm currently stuck in red ranks after being on a 3 week break and it really sucks.

Also was said 3 years ago. Would you like a list of changes that have helped killer out since that remark? :P
Optimization for console was promised 2 years ago, they havn't even scratched the 60fps mark since then.
-
Solo survivors aren't as helpless as you think they are
A single good looper could change the outcome of the game as long as they keep the killers attention, even in a 3 vs 1 situation.

They do QnA's and stuff like that, but whenever a question is asked about changes or upcoming content they always give non-answers, such as "We can't tell you about that," or "We've considered that and are still in the design phase."
They do them, but they don't answer anything unless it's unrevealing to plans.
I don't get why they can't just tell us what changes they have in the pipeline. If they tell the community what they have planned then they can get at least some feedback from it.
At worst the community doesn't like it and they'll have to work on it more. I know community feedback isn't as good as gameplay data but still.
-
That's a decent amount of effort for a response on the forums.
You deserve this upvote oni XD

If I remember correctly, the devs used to do weekly streams before the lockdown.
I'm not sure what would be stopping them from doing the streams now.

This was Dev response to that video.
If there's no spaghetti code why does the game keep breaking in some way in every update?

Not that much unfortunately, because the dev that said object is fine is part of the balance team and McCote isn't.
McCote is right, I don't see why the balance team wouldn't listen to that statement.

How would you change Object that wouldn't completely gimp it of it's purpose?
At this point something would be better than nothing. If used right It can completely destroy a trap based killer.

I would hope game health wins, that is what would keep people in the game long term.

I mean the whole game is pretty much under a plasterfix with Perks, Add-ons and Game Mechanics.
Perks such as "Borrowed Time" and "Decisive Strike" are supposed to be anti-tunnel, in order to fix the whole "tunneling" situation but encourages bad play from the survivors because of how badly designed they are ie low requirements and high rewards.
Add-ons are just fixes to how badly designed some killer powers are. Killers that are add-on dependant in order to play them and have fun (At high level) are bad design from the get go and need to be looked into such as Trapper, Wraith, Nurse and Clown.
Game Mechanics such as Bloodlust are ok, the idea is supposed to "fix" the length of chases but it's contradicted by many factors.
But would the length of chases be so long if maps were balanced?
I agree bloodlust is a necessary mechanic, but only during the current balance state of the game. Primarily due to the speed of gens, and how unbalanced some loops are.
-
I think it did once. Not sure which one.
That's why we got the metal trapper mask about 2 years ago.

Meanwhile, OoO is fine and doesn't need any changes. kekekekeke
It is worth mentioning that McCote pointed out that the stats don't tell you how it feels to go against something.
Or something along those lines. But he did correct the other guy on OoO.

People say this game has come a long way since it's released. It has, but it still has a long way to go before it can be called a labor of love.

It's the mentality that nerfing an already extremely underpowered perk is ok what really concerns me about their future balance decisions.
Yeah I see that, decisions like that are what corral people to use the meta even more than they already do.
-
Don't forget to gift them items, can't have christmas without gifts.
-
@OniWantsYourMacaroni said:
Yeah, and then they want to nerf coup de grâce lol
The devs are always switching between great balance decisions and really weird ones
I'm not too torn up about coup de grâce, it was a niche perk even in the PTB. But yeah, still a pretty wierd nerf.
-
I almost got excited when I saw the emoji in the title...
I'm sad now...
-
The advent calendar is neat, but nothing can replace the classic Christmas menu. Haven't seen that for 2 years now.
-
That actually sounds like a pretty good idea, people have been asking to carry more traps for what seems like years now.
Plus that fracture debuff sounds like an awesome addition.
-
Gameplay wise the only thing I feel they messed up with is breakable walls.
Aesthetic wise the new maps need to have a better ground texture. They have next to no leaves. The current maps have a richness in their grounds with mashed leaves and other debris in the texture. Reworked ground textures look like pure dirt with no debris.
-
Different animations, voice actors, and power effects.
As they currently stand legendary skins are glorified purple skins, Just with a $15 dollar price tag.
-
I hope we get a winter solstice main menu, haven't seen that thing for two years now.
I still miss the theme that came with it too

Wait where did they say we should appreciate the gift? I don't remember seeing that. That doesn't sound like a very good move, especially with how disappointed the community was with no Christmas event last year. That'd just piss people off even more.
It was during the dev stream before they went on break. And it did make the community pretty mad.
-
I made a post somewhat similar to this, people didn't seem to like it.
Because apparently if they are having fun problems are non existent.
-
Interesting stuff, though I feel the arrow pointed directly toward the survivor at the end is a little much. It could be something like whispers where it tells you if they are within a certain radius of you.

What is with the bars?
Is that representative of being reprimanded? Also, the User Banned icon? If some members are off the forums having been banned, why are others still here with the UB icon?
Or do all these icons mean sth else altogether?
Been wondering about this, but no one talks about it, so I wasn’t sure if it was allowed to be referenced or not.
You can still comment, just not post. Also you can't talk about it for some reason
-
Inb4 the "JuSt BrEaK tHe WaLl" people show up.
But yeah, they have a multitude of issues they bring to the table. For one they re-create god loops that were removed to balance the game. Second, they either waste your time while you should be patrolling gens. Or they create more distance for a survivor during chase.
They're just poorly implemented

If you play this game for a while, I would say it's hard to disagree that there was a better state than the current one. Particularly for killer. Not saying it's perfect, but I have some fun playing it. Seems like most people are so entitled nowdays that everything must be either perfect or complete trash. I win most killer matches I play and I am subjected to the same issues you cited. None of these are big issues to me.
I'm entitled for wanting the game to be better?
-
@BlackRabies said:
Much as i would also like for them to fix their spaghetti code, it's not easy at all to fix it would require them to pretty rebuild the entire game from the ground up.
Yeah it wouldn't be easy, but they aren't exactly an indie studio now. Even if the coding team is small, they could hire outside help (which would probably know better than them)

Why there are so many downers posting negative stuff on the forums? All these endless rants. There are a few issues around, true, but nothing that makes the game unplayable. In fact I think the game is in the best state it's ever been. I read this stuff and I wonder why are you still playing it and/or wasting time making such a wall of text about a game you seem not to enjoy.
I'm not saying the game is unplayable, It could just be so much better than what it currently is.

I'm not a miracle worker. I can't create something out of nothing, and there was no argument here to begin with.
You've made yet another in what seems to a be a daily onslaught of your threads bemoaning the state of the game, this time actually admitting that making these kinds of threads over and over again accomplishes nothing with respect to what you're complaining about. Truly strange stuff.
There are many things that can be argued about in this post. The perk/map balance, the disparity between how good killers are, ETC
Say what you will about my post history, but at least bring something to the table.
And if you don't like what I post, then why do you keep reading them?
-
Even winning doesn't feel too good in this game. But losing feels even worse because of how smug some people are about winning against you.
-
@Science_Guy said:
I will say, most of you people don't admit that you make these weird rants just to make yourselves feel better, so props to OP for that I guess.
And props for not bringing anything meaningful to the argument.
