An unknown masked killer killing people in gruesome and inventive ways. Can fall under a slasher for sure. Having comedic moments does not preclude it from this.
That's like calling You're Next a horror film. It's not. It's a thriller. I'd also argue that a slasher has to have like a recognizable enemy. Like the collector or ghost face. I can't even remember what the guy from happy death day looked like.

Might just be me but i don't remember people complaining about sprint burst in the short time after 6.1 where people thought the new dead hard was useless
I saw a single thread after the dead hard change complaining about sprint burst with exactly one upvote and about fifty comments telling them they were dumb.
Dead hard is objectively more frustrating than sprint burst. I can lunge after a sprint burst user after following them for a couple seconds.

happy death day is literally a slasher movie???
It's not. It's a comedy thriller.

It does have the most rude playerbase I have ever seen. I played dota for many years which has a reputation for a hostile playerbase and this game is far far worse.
And pretending like it's a "both sides" thing is fallacious. It's not. Survivors are several times more rude than killers. Proportionally, the number of survivors pointing and waiting until the last second at the exit gate is way way higher than being hit on the hook or whatever. Literally 95% of my killer games have people who desperately need me to watch them leave. Your camping complaint is invalid though. It's not "toxic" but frequently the only way you can get a handle on the game.
My belief is the it's caused by the inherent us. Vs them nature of the game. Killers can't really express themselves like survivors can and they're all menacing and evil so it's natural to ascribe malice to them. When a survivor wins they're a hero who escaped the clutches of evil so they want to rub it in the face of the evil. When the killer wins the "bad guy" wins and that leads to hurt feelings because we're conditioned to think the bad guy doesn't deserve to win.
In truth the killer is just another person trying to have fun, but people who play mostly survivor don't empathize with that. They see them as evil and malicious in the game and that translates to antipathy toward those who enjoy the role. This is the source of survivor entitlement and the assumption that killer players just want the worst for them.
What's the solution? There isn't one. You can't force empathy down people's throats. The only thing you can do is try to be kind yourself and set a positive example for others. You cannot and should not control how other people choose to behave.
Anyway that's the essay goodbye

Some of the highlighted are one of the best horror movies around.
You cannot be serious. Most of those are very very middling sequels to better movies. Is the first insidious movie good? Definitely. Is the sixth? Hell no. They make a hit and milk it for forever with bad sequels instead of moving onto something fresh. Also I'd say many of those are thrillers rather than horror. The purge and happy death day in particular.
Get out was excellent, but that was due to Jordan peele.

Blumhouse makes the most generic and uninspired horror films I have ever seen. Not excited about the production company. A24 would have been a better get.

Dead Hard does not need a nerf. It hasn't needed a nerf since its rework.
This is the classic 'well Eruption got nerfed, so DH should too'. Like have some objectivity for the game.
Eruption was completely uncounterable in solo play, which is the majority of players. It won you games you really should have lost or tied in. 1 perk that changes the outcome of the match that much w/ little to nothing survivors can do? Yea makes sense.
DH may extend a chase or get you safety but its counterable. There are workarounds, the perk doesn't just win you matches out of the blue. There is no guarantee to DH, its a very inconsistent perk but its great when it works.
I'd also argue DH takes more skill to pull off than ...hitting a gen and getting into a chase with someone who you know you'll down very quickly b/c lack of pallets. But thats neither here nor there.
My point is; Eruption deserved the gut. Just b/c you're angry about that doesn't = 'nerf DH then >:('.
Hitting E under a pallet takes more skill than outplaying a survivor twice(three times if they have dead hard) and securing a down? I hate eruption as much as the next person but oh my God this take is pants on fire bad

No, absolutely not. Sometimes patches will lean in favour of one side or the other, but it would be silly to solely focus on Survivors just because there's more of them in a match. The game does not exist without both sides.
If any decent-yet-underutilized perk for killer gets a buff like any means necessary did I'll be incredibly shocked.
-
Enjoying it as much as I ever have. Which is a lot, DBD is my favorite game. These topics pop up every week or so with people talking about how now is DBD's lowest and more unfun point, tunneling camping blah blah blah regardless of how the game actually is. Literally every patch.
-
I think they should just give five or ten pips per round, no matter what happens. That way you can watch the little dots or whatever go up and feel warm and fuzzy.
-
This doesn't work because if survivors know where the killer spawns, they can figure out where the hexes are very easily.
Also: not quality of life.
-
The assassin is actually the worst guard because he doesn't screech and giggle like best boy, jailer.
-
Are you saying the explosion or the regression that accompanies the explosion?

- Treated Blade, Cold Steel Mechanics, Battle Head Axe
I've gotten used to the cycling pretty well. I usually set up my Carnifex for a first break (like a strong pallet or breakable wall), Assassin for hunts mid-chase or at gens and my Jailer as the wild card for any scenario, and rinse and repeat. I'd rather see a buff to the Guards for each addon instead so it's more synergistic with the purple/iridecent addons.

Assassin for more suprised hunts, Carnifex for more Order and Jailer for more Control/Pincers
- Chain Mail Fragment
I've thought of it having a reduced slowdown when going through windows and pallets, but it could also be an information type perk that reveals survivor's aura within 8m of a guard. Useful for pincers and predicting surivors movement.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/MQB5W5LTN9FU/cmf.png
- Blacksmith's Hammer
It just needs to also be able to cause hinder/exhaust during a guard hunt. Rewards Pincers with your guards, if you or the guard hits em'.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/DN5CS9EFD1X5/image.png
- Knight's Contract
Gives more power to yourself instead of your guards, which should be the opposite. It should opt for a more synergistic playstyle with your addons, guards and perks.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/3CMSQ8997MHN/image.png
- Iridescent Company Banner
Probably the one I think is fine as an iri. I use it for anti-loop/control and set up pincers for specific scenarios.
Also yes MotR basekit all the way.
Please make these into a thread. They're very very good.

Honestly, Im just going to say it, the Knight is not as bad as people make them out to be. The only "issue" the Knight has is that their power is boring to play with and against.
I have always stood by the idea that Dream Pallet Freddy and Sadako are the worst Killers in the game atm, mostly leaning towards DP Freddy, since their power is entirely countered by memorization (and soon to be Any Means Necessary since you can just drop all the DPs and reset any actual pallets with no consequence).
"With and against" seems to be the meme with this guy.
His power is fun as hell to play with. I love love love farting out ghosts, chasing two survivors at once, forcing survivors off gens and blocking pallets with the slow break action on his little guards. He does a bunch of stuff no other killer can do and I love it.
He's still not good though. A good survivor can loop you and the guards because they remember where they have been and the guard pathing is pretty easy to abuse. Yeah you'll get a hit eventually but that's true of every killer. The salient question is how many gens are left when that down comes. Against good survivors it's usually not a lot which is why so many knights go for the hard three gen thing.
And all that's fine. I'll take a fun killer over a strong one every time. Knight's fun, but middling in strength. I play him and dredge a lot lately and I think dredge is the stronger killer if you're not going for tedious 3 gen stuff.

I think it's a pretty open and shut case, personally: Trapper.
No other killer has as much holding them back for as little reward as Trapper, in the current state of the game. Next up from him would probably be Clown, since both of his bottles mostly do the same thing and that thing is only "decent".
Trapper can snowball in a way clown never can.
I'd say Freddy though.

there are several perks that do that, but always remember that just because it exists does not mean it will always be utilized, not to mention repressed alliance already exists anyways
What perks? Repressed does not have an indefinite duration like yours does, nor is it deactivated whenever the survivor wishes. Your perk obsoletes it in every way. It obviates the only strong regression perks killers have left for a negligible downside. You'd see it every game.
-
You cannot have a survivor perk that can be brought 4x that negates an entire suite of killer perks. You've played a heal build against plague, right? You know how demoralizing it is to just not be able to use your build. That's how it'd feel for killers.
-
A gold star? It's not like it means anything except that you've pumped a bunch a bunch of blood points into a character. It shouldn't be aspirational. Honestly I'm still bitter that prestige is forced. I prefer my level 50 bloodwebs over an attaboy.

You are making bad faith arguments when you say that I want players to be punished. I never said that.
You don't have to say a thing to say a thing. You're not a dummy. You understand subtext and allusion.
If you increase the queue times of killers survivors don't like, not even implicitly, even if it is just a natural occurrence of the system, those player are tacitly being punished. If you give a BP bonus to killers that you like playing against you're punishing those people who like the killers you don't like by leaving them out of that system.
All for what? Because you and people like you should have an influence on who plays what. Why do you think you're special? Why do you think you should get a say in that, even unintentionally? It's the height of entitlement. People can do as they please and you cannot do anything about it. Rightfully so.

You could always pretend you got a pip every game and it would have a similar impact to losing one.

Blah blah blah "unhealthy" whatever that means.
I like knight. A lot of other people like knight. Changing how he works entirely at this point would alienate his current players. Your post doesn't even have a solution except to "remove ai" so I reckon the guards would just stand there until they despawn.

That'd be a nerf, since he already gets a notif bubble. Changing it to KI will just make it lose value on potentially eating distortion stacks.
In fairness if you play distortion vs. A trapper you're gonna be at max stacks constantly anyway.
-
This game definitely has the most hostile user base of any game I have ever played, and I used to play Dota a great deal.
-
Killer players are people, trying to have fun just like you. It's unfair to punish players with longer queue times because you and people like you don't like their killer.
-
I really really hate it when people compare boons to hexes. The only commonality is that they interact with totems to some degree. Every other related mechanic is completely different.
That being said killers should absolutely have the ability to destroy a booned totem or simply snuff it. Have it be a hold vs. Press interaction. If it makes pentimento too strong then have the entity consume destroyed totems.

Yeah i don't know. I've had survivors tbag me and then immediately go down, I've had survivors tbag me at the exit gates and compliment after the match or come to my defense when someone was being rude. It's just in-game banter to me.
Same goes for killers nodding or hitting on the hook.
These things are not two sides of the same coin. The proportion of killers that BM compared to survivors is comparatively small. Most killers simply do not have the time to sit there and do that stuff if they want to win. However 90% of my games, I am not exaggerating, have people waiting at the gate wanting to taunt me before just leaving. It's not "I get tunneled and camped every game!!" whining and hyperbole. It's literally, actually every game.
-
Why do people get tilted over letters and sounds arranged a particular way? How silly of them!

@Johnny_XMan said:
Showing other perks should have been there to begin with. Top two reasons:
1) Camping and Tunneling are still a problem in 2023, to the point that say you are playing with someone who isn't as experienced or is new, slotting BT or if you know no one else has it slotting OTR as a go-to perk is key.
2) There are perks that are well known to synergize better, in fact the devs themselves seem to encourage this but we are literally clueless within the lobby. Something which I have yet to understand considering that the killer does see our items (eg "Oh they all have items, let me bring franklins") I honestly don't find it fair.
In addition to a chat wheel, there should be an OPTIONAL voice chat for those who dont want to bother with a chat wheel.
OooooOOoo spooky scary tunneling and camping! It's under your bed! It's in your closet!

Don’t get me the wrong way, i don’t want knight to get nerfed. he could really use some buffs if anything, but i want the chases of knight to feel more interactive instead of “run this direction or get hit”
i love playing as knight but im sure people have a lot of frustration against him.
People have frustration over ever killer. I get frustrated when a huntress hatchet clips me around a corner. I get frustrated whenever an artist birds me down through walls. I get frustrated when I can't see because of clown.
All that stuff ultimately okay though. Game's asymmetrical. If survivors had an easy answer for everything a killer can do the role would be even more hopeless than it can often feel. Survivors are supposed to go down, it's why bloodlust exists. Fortunately there are redundant survivors and you have to get them all down in order to win.
-
@leviivel said:
Tbh, the reason people probably don’t like knight is because his power is somewhat clunky and feels unrewarding on both sides.
they did make the guards walk around pallets now, but, most likely they still haven’t fixed the issue of survivor’s dropping pallet’s not requiring line of sight (basically, if a survivor was behind a wall but in detection range, the moment they drop the pallet they are detected). Guards could also use more of a slow after moving through windows, adding vaulting animations would just take time and be pointless. Maybe make the detection zone more obvious aswell in terms of the verticality, because i have so many people get confused at me when im playing as knight on maps like saloon and i use the guards to pressure them of main building and what.
Also, just remove survivors being able to see the orb all together, i know they kinda fixed it with the recent buff, but it still rats you out if the survivors are good at sight seeing. If spirit has invisibility both ways, so should knight. Also, give all the guards increased patrol time and let guard cancel their patrols manually from a button press after 10-12 seconds. Just so longer paths are more encouraged. Also, the fact survivors get a very big haste AND ENDURANCE from the banners is absolutely stupid makes the long patrol play style worthless since a survivor can go around an object like 2 times and get the banner unless it’s carnifex in which case it’s 4 times.
I think making knight’s power stronger outside of chase and make it more fun for both sides since then strategy can be more involved and survivors also have more to do look out for.
but knight’s current state isn’t THAT bad, i do enjoy him myself, it’s just a lot people don’t understand how to counter him.
Unrewarding on both sides? People parrot this but I'm pretty sure most knight players find his power fun and rewarding. I know I do. Otherwise I'd play someone else.
Sounds like you just salivate over knight nerfs. If he couldn't chase in conjunction with his guards then the only thing he'd have is holding a three gen. Taking a B tier killer down to D tier because his power does stuff, sometimes.
-
@Phasmamain said:
Fair enough if you enjoy him. I just think he’s painfully boring and lacks any real skill ceiling to improve with
But I understand some people don’t care about improving and just want to have fun which is completely fair and knight is a great low skill anti loop killer for that
I'm already as good as killer at I want to be. If I wanted harder matches at this point I'd have to start running meta perks and hardcore slugging and tunneling. Not interested. I don't care about getting better and pooting out ghosts makes me chuckle. Chasing two survivors at once is something no other killer can do and making it happen is a lot of fun.

People with at least couple of brain cells, for example. I'll explain it to you: when something fails to serve its purpose by design = unhealthy.
Game (not job, not punishment, game) has to be fun and interesting (because it's a game). Unfun exploits = unhealthy. Same as cheating, for example.
Harassment on work = unhealthy
Bribery in institutions = unhealthy
Abusement in families = unhealthy
Cheese and exploits in multiplayer games = unhealthy
I understand that in any scenario there are some benefactors of unhealthy aspect (in DbD it's bad killer players), but that's not the reason to ruin the whole purpose of the game to give momentary gratifications to a bunch of questionable participants.
Clearer now?
Fun to who? In every online multiplayer game your fun comes at a cost to someone else and vice versa. Equating someone trying to win in a video game with workplace harassment and familial abuse is just beyond the pale. Unhinged.

Don't forget that they're "holding the game hostage" next time! With "unhealthy and toxic" I almost had bingo.

To be clear, I wouldn't be against this change being made to Eruption specifically, it's just a pretty bad idea for the Incapacitated status effect since that is extremely important to Twins and relatively important to the few other killers that can use it.
Personally speaking though, I like that they went with more of a hybrid design of regression/info rather than pure regression/regression. I think it could be tweaked a lot more, but I don't think it's inherently bad for the perk to have passive, ambient information instead of a second slowdown effect. Either way, we're on firmer ground talking about Eruption itself rather than the status effect as a whole.
Make no mistake, new eruption is still yet another bad perk to toss on the pile. But at least it does something now.
-
Generally I don't go for the tit for tat thing, but if you're gonna unnerf one of the old meta perks I feel it's fair that killers get one back at well. I don't particularly care which one as I never really used them, but giving back one of the strongest survivor perks and the other side nothing rubs me the wrong way.
